TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE WAS LOOSE. ADDITIONALLY, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING INDICATOR FOR THE DRIVER'S DOOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED SUNNYSIDE MOTOR CO., INC. (944 MAIN ST, HOLDEN, MA 01520, (508) 829-4333) AND A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE LOCAL DEALER. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000. *TT
MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT . LUCKILY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT. OTHERWISE IT COULD HAVE BEEN TRAJIC.
EXHAUST FUMES WHEN RUNNING AC STILL A PROBLEM AFTER THE FIELD SERVICE ACTION PERFORMED BY THE FORD DEALER. CAUSING HEADACHES AND LIGHTHEADED AFTER DRIVING WITH AC ON MY COMMUTES DUE TO LONG TIME EXPOSURE TO FUMES IN THE CABIN. HAVE TO TURN OFF AC AND OPEN MY WINDOWS. FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING MY VEHICLE CANNOT USE AC AND CALIFORNIA TEMPERATURES IN THE SUMMER OVER 90 DEGREES
I HAVE A DOOR AJAR LIGHT THAT WILL NOT TURN OFF FIRST IT WAS JUST THE DRIVER SIDE NOW IT IS AFFECTING BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE. THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WHEN IN MOTION AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL NOT TURN OFF.
THE VEHICLE IS ROLLING AWAY WHILE IN "PARK". IT IS THE EXACT PROBLEM DESCRIBED FOR OTHER FORD VEHICLES BUT THE EXPLORER IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS OCCURRENCE TWICE NOW. THE FIRST TIME IT OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE ROLLED OUT OF OUR GARAGE AND INTO FENCE AND TREE. THE SECOND TIME, IT ROLLED OUT OF A PARKED SPOT WHILE MY WIFE WAS IN THE DRIVER SEAT AND CLEARLY OBSERVING THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN "PARK".
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO TEMPORARILY LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. WE LIMPED THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST EXIT. WE ARE BEING TOLD BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS A "COMMON OCCURRENCE" HOWEVER, OUR VIN IS NOT PART OF ANY RECALL "YET". THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND TO NOW KNOW THAT IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT FORD IS NOT ADDRESSING IS EVEN MORE UPSETTING. WE ARE NOW NEEDING TO TOW THE VEHICLE SEVERAL MILES HOME AND ATTEMPTING TO HAVE IT REPAIRED DURING A HOLIDAY WEEK. VACATION HAS BEEN CANCELLED, BUT THANK GOODNESS WE ARE STILL ALIVE. WAY TO GO FORD....
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, AN ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT WILL APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD AND THEN THE GAS PEDAL NO LONGER WORKS. ALL YOU CAN DO IS ATTEMPT TO SAFELY SLOW DOWN AND GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ONCE AT A COMPLETE STOP, YOU CAN TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. THEN THE CAR SEEMS TO BE BACK TO NORMAL AND THE WRENCH LIGHT GOES AWAY. IT IS VERY FRIGHTENING FOR THE CAR TO JUST SHUT DOWN AT ANY SPEED, LET ALONE HIGH SPEEDS.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILURE. WHILE DRIVE THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL.I WAS DRIVING 45 MILES PER HOUR WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP CAUSING ME TO STEER OFF THE ROAD.THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST.
WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION (PARKING), ERROR POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND SERVICE ADVANCETRAC ERROR ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. NO LONGER ABLE TO STEER CAR, THE CAR DID NOT DEFAULT INTO MANUAL STEERING MODE. THE CAR WILL ONLY GO STRAIGHT. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THE MODULE IN THE STEERING GEAR LOST COMMUNICATION AND THAT THE ENTIRE STEERING GEAR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AS A RESULT. NHTSA ISSUED RECALL ID #14V286000 ON SOME FORD EXPLORER VEHICLES FOR SOME STEERING GEAR FAILURES, HOWEVER THE FORD DEALER STATES THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL IN THEIR OASIS SYSTEM.
I saw issues with trim coming off of Ford Explorers. This has happened to us now, twice. There is a rubber section adjacent to the windshield that flew off of our car while driving down the highway. There had been no known issues with it at the time it happened. We had it repaired only to have it happen again within 6 months of replacing the original trim.
MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER LOST THE POWER STEERING AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. THE STEERING STARTED FEELING INCONSISTENT AND THEN THE WARNING LIGHT TO SERVICE POWER STEERING CAME ON ALONG WITH TRACTION CONTROL WARNING. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AFTER TALKING TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. THIS IS WHAT THEY RECOMMENDED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ALMOST 1900.00 TO HAVE THE POWER STEERING FIXED IN MY EXPLORER. THIS SEEMS INSANE TO ME SINCE THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO SO MANY FORD EXPLORERS AND ESCAPES. I FEEL THAT MY EXPLORER ALSO WAS GIVEN A FAULTY PART AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY FORD AT NO CHARGE TO ME.
WE HAVE A 2013 FORD EXPLORER THAT WE HAVE TAKEN IN LATE LAST YEAR AND HAD THE CARBON MONXIODE PROBLEM ADDRESSED AND WE ARE STILL HAVING ISSUES AFTER THE RECALL. WE STILL SMELL IT WHEN WE ACCERLATE THE GAS. I TRY NOT TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF IT. NOW WHEN I RUN THE AC AND STEP ON THE GAS THE COMPRESSOR FOR THE AC DROPS DOWN. IF I RUN THE AC ON 5 AND I ACCERLATE ON THE GAS IT SOUNDS LIKE I JUST TURNED IT ON AND RUNNING IT ON LOW AND THEN IT FINALLY KICKS BACK UP TO 5. IF I CAN GET RID OF THIS VEHICLE I WILL NOT GET ANOTHER FORD AND WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW THAT FORD DOESN'T CARE ABOUT SAFETY JUST THE MONEY. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. ITS THE SAME AS HAVING CARBON MONXIODE IN YOUR HOME. IT IS DANGEROUS. YOU WOULD NOT PUT YOUR FAMILY IN IT , BUT YOU SAY YOU WOULD TO KEEP FROM RECALLING THEM. ALL OF THE EXPLORERS NEED TO BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD THAT HAS THIS ISSUE. FORD AND THERE CEOS ARE PUTTING EVERYONES LIVES IN DANGER BUT FORD IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY/GREED. WHAT WILL IT TAKE TAKE TO PUT THE SAFETY OF PEOPLES LIVES FIRST. PEOPLE GETTING KILLED DUE TO THIS ISSUE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!!
TAKATA RECALL. MY CAR STARTED MAKING AN AWFUL GROWLING SOUND. SHORTLY AFTER, I WAS HAVING TROUBLE STEERING. IT DOESN'T TURN WELL. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT MY STEERING RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE. THE COST IS AROUND $1700 TO BE REPLACED BY FORD. I AM ALSO STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON MY VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED IN OTHER EXPLORERS, WOULD WHY NOT ALL?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN AND MADE AN ABNORMAL GRINDING NOISE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (AUFFENBERG FORD O'FALLON, 115 REGENCY PARK, O'FALLON, IL 62269, (618) 632-0090), BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
2013 FORD EXPLORER, FRONT (HOOD) IS DETERIORATING, AND HOLES IN THE METAL ARE STARTING TO ROT THRU PAINT IS PEELING AND GETTING WORSE. MY BODY AND FENDER MAN TELLS ME IT CAN ALSO AFFECT THE SPRING LOADED AND LOCKING DEVICE OF THE HOOD, WHICH IN TIME CAN CAUSE A FAILURE OF THE HOOD BEING DISLODGED AND BLOCKING YOUR VISION. HE ALSO EXPLAINED THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH FORD PRODUCTS AND THERE REALLY IS NO FIX. THEY HOODS ARE ALUMINUM AND ARE INSTALLED ON A STEEL BODY. ITS NOT THE PAINT JOB, ITS A DISSIMILAR METAL ISSUE THAT ONLY CAN BE CORRECTED BY INSTALLING A NEW HOOD. I NOW UNDERSTAND THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF FORD PRODUCTS. HELP
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE FOR IT TO OPERATE NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE THE TRAC CONTROL MALFUNCTION WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PREMIER FORD INC (5001 GLENWOOD RD, BROOKLYN, NY 11234, (888) 381-4515) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER STARTED MAKING A SCRUBBING SOUND WHILE TURNING, IT SLAP FELT 'STICKY' WHILE STEERING LEFT OR RIGHT. THE NEXT DAY AN ALERT BADGE CAME ON TO 'SERVICE POWER STEERING.' MY HUSBAND STOPPED AT THE GAS STATION AND AFTER CRANKING THE CAR BACK UP THE STEERING IS LOCKED DOWN AND WILL NOT TURN EITHER WAY. I CHECKED MY VIN ON THIS WEBSITE AND IT SAYS IT IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL.
TAKATA RECALL: WHEN DRIVING 75MPH TRY TO PASS ANOTHER CAR, THE MOTOR AND AC CUT OFF AT 79 MPH, NO POWER. THIS IS ON THE HIGHWAY
WHEN TRAVELING LONG DISTANCES, USUALLY OVER AN HOUR, THE WARNING FOR POWER STEERING AND SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC COMES ON. THE POWER STEERING WILL LOCK UP AND WILL BE DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AFTER VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED AND ONCE ITS STARTED BACK UP AGAIN.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. MONOXIDE CARBON ODORS FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE ARE ENTERED INTO THE VEHICLE, AND WHEN I DRIVE FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME I FEEL NAUSEOUS AND DISORIENTED AND I HAVE TO LOWER THE WINDOWS EVERY 20 MINUTES

THE CONTACT SUFFERED HEADACHES AND DIZZINESS DUE TO THE EXHAUST FUMES. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT RECEIVED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KENNY ROSS FORD SOUTH (LOCATED AT 3200 LIBRARY RD, CASTLE SHANNON, PA 15234, (412) 881-0001) WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THERE WAS A DEFINITE ODOR IN THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, HE WAS UNSURE IF IT WAS CARBON MONOXIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF WHILE TURNING AND REMAINED IN THE POSITION OF THE TURN. HALL FORD LINCOLN IN NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION AND THE STEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK AT TIMES ON START UP. COULD GO OUT AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. SHOULD BE A RECALL
I PICKED UP MY CAR FROM THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, WHO HAD JUST REPLACED BRAKES AND ROTORS, DONE A ALIGNMENT, AND REPLACED A CIRCUIT BREAKER ON 5/16/2018. I THEN TOOK SAID CAR ON A ROAD TRIP DOWN THE EAST COAST. WHEN I FIRST GOT ONTO THE HIGHWAY, I FELT MY CAR PULLING EVER SO SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT. I ASSUMED THE ALIGNMENT WAS OFF AND DIDN'T THINK ANYMORE OF IT UNTIL I TRIED TO GO ACROSS THE GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE, WHERE MY CAR BEGAN TO BECOME INCREASINGLY MORE DIFFICULT TO STEER AND HANDLE. SEVERAL WARNINGS CAME ACROSS THE DASHBOARD, INCLUDING 'SERVICE POWER STEERING', ALONG WITH TWO TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE. I PULLED OFF INTO THE NEAREST SERVICE STATION ON THE NJ TURNPIKE, WHERE I COULD NO LONGER STEER THE CAR (AS I WAS DECREASING SPEED), AND THE RED WARNING FLASHING 'SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW' APPEARED. I PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK, AND COULD NOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED, RENT A CAR, AND DRIVE BACK HOME. IT IS ABSURD THAT 196,000 OTHER EXPLORERS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT MINE WAS NOT (ALONG WITH ABOUT 150+ OTHER CASES I RESEARCHED BEFORE REPORTING THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE 77,000 MILES ON MY CAR, EXTENDED AND POWERTRAIN WARRANTIES, AND HAD TO PAY $2000 PLUS NJ STATE TAXES OUT OF POCKET FOR A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. THIS IS MY FIRST FORD, AND IT'S DISAPPOINTING THAT THEY AREN'T INCLUDING THESE OTHER AFFECTED VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE IN A RECALL.
ON A 2013 FORD EXPLORER, THE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE KEEPS GETTING STUCK AND CAR IS UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO GEAR WITH OUT MANUALLY MOVING THE RELEASE PUMP. THIS IS AFTER CAR IS IN PARK.
I BOUGHT THE 2013 FORD EXPLORER IN MAY 2013. I EXPERIENCED MY FIRST POWER STEERING LOSS ABOUT 6 MONTHS BACK. ALMOST WRECKED IT WITH FAMILY IN MY CAR. IT WAS PRETTY SCARY. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN. WHEN I TOOK THE EXPLORER TO FORD FOR AN OIL CHANGE I MENTIONED THE ISSUE WITH THEM AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG, I EVEN CALLED FOR TO LET THEM KNOW THE ISSUE BUT DID NOTHING. ALSO, KEEP IN MY MIND I WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. MY POWER STEERING WOULD CONTINUE TO GO OFF AND ON EVERY NOW AND THEN BUT ON MAY 2018 THIS POWER LOSS REPEATED SEVERAL TIMES AND I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE OVER $2600 TO FIX IT. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE FOR 2013 EXPLORERS BUT FORD SAID MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL I CALLED FORD TO SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO AND THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY NOR DID THEY CARE . I KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL ON POWER STEERING BEFORE BUT THEY SAID MY EXPLORER WAS NOT PART OF IT.
PAINT PEELING ON HOOD. THE FRONT EDGE OF THE HOOD HAS PEELING PAINT. IT BEGAN JUST AFTER THE 36 MO WARRANTY EXPIRED AND FORD HAS NOT MADE ANY EFFORTS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I RECENTLY SAW ANOTHER EXPLORER, SAME YEAR, MODEL WITH EVEN WORSE PEELING PAINT ON THE HOOD. I HAVE INCLUDED THE PICTURE OF THAT CAR AS WELL.
2013 FORD EXPLORER WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 60 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ACCELERATOR STOPPED WORKING AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I LOST ALL ACCELERATION ABILITY. LUCKILY I WAS IN MINIMAL TRAFFIC AND WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AS I WAS PULLING OVER, THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED A FEW TIMES AND I KILLED OUT THE VEHICLE AND LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE THEN RESTARTED WITH NO TROUBLE.
NOTICED WATER LEAK COMING OUT OF SEAT BELT HARNESS AREA IN THIRD ROW. WATER LEAK IS CAUSING ENTIRE AREA TO BECOME WET IN THIRD ROW. MILDEW SMELL IS NOW PRESENT. AFRAID THERE MAY BE MOLD GROWTH CAUSING HEALTH ISSUES. I PUT TOWELS AROUND THE SEATBELT TO CATCH WATER AND THEY ARE SOAKED WHEN I CHANGE THEM OUT. RAIN WATER COMES LEAKED ON WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED OR WHILE IN MOTION. I AM NOT AWARE OF WHERE THE LEAK IS STARTING OR HOW TO FIX.
OVER THE PAST YEAR OR SO, THE PAINT ON THE HOOD OF MY EXPLORER HAS BEEN BUBBLING AND PEELING ALONG THE PERIMETER. WE BROUGHT IT TO OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY TOOK PICTURES AND CONTACTED THE FORD HEADQUARTERS. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD, BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THEY CAN'T HELP. AS I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE TO SEE IF OTHERS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, I FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS, LAWSUITS PENDING, AND ARTICLES WRITTEN ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. I WENT THROUGH THE PROPER CHANNELS, CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE ONLINE AND THROUGH MESSENGER, BUT STILL HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS NOT FORD'S FAULT. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLES AND HAVE ALWAYS PURCHASED VEHICLES FROM FORD. MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER LOOKS LIKE NEW FROM THE INSIDE. THE OUTSIDE LOOKS FINE, AS WELL, EXCEPT THE HIDEOUS HOOD PERIMETER. THE HOOD IS EMBARRASSING, PERIOD. I DON'T DESERVE THE POOR SERVICE I AM GETTING FROM THE ENTIRE FORD COMPANY. THE FACT THAT IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTLY SHOULDN'T MATTER WITH THIS ISSUE. THE PAINT SHOULD NOT BE BUBBLING AND PEELING LIKE THIS. SOMEONE AT FORD IS TO BLAME OR WHOEVER IS IN CHARGE OF THE HOOD/PAINT/MATERIAL TO MAKE THE HOOD. I WILL KEEP FIGHTING UNTIL FORD PAYS TO HAVE MY HOOD REDONE. I HAVE CONTACTED ZESTAR, THE FORD CEO, PRESIDENT, ETC. AND A DETROIT FREE PRESS JOURNALIST WHO WROTE ABOUT FORD'S TRANSIMISSION DECEITFUL COVERUP. I AM NOT ASKING FOR ANYTHING MORE THAN TO HAVE THE HOOD OF MY CAR FIXED. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. **IN THE UPLOADED FILE BELOW, IT ASKS FOR A DATE IN WHICH THIS OCCURRED. I DO NOT HAVE AN EXACT DATE. IT HAS BEEN ONGOING AND IS OBVIOUSLY GETTING WORSE AS TIME GOES ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER A POTHOLE AND INTO SOME BUSHES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT TWO UNKNOWN WARNING INDICATORS AND THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER (AL PIEMONTE FORD, 2500 W NORTH AVE, MELROSE PARK, IL 60160) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE PAD, ROTORS, AND ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
CONTINUE TO SMELL A BAD ODOR FROM VENTS. CONTACTED FORD, WENT TO DEALER TODAY, DID FREE FIIX, BUT PROBLEM NOT STILL EXISTS. IT DOES THIS OCCASSIONALLY AND LAST FEW MINUTES.
THERE ARE FAULTY WELDS IN THE ROOF SEAMS UNDER THE REAR LIFT GATE. THIS ALLOWS WATER TO ESCAPE INSIDE THE VEHICLE, ALONG THE HEADLINER, AND DOWN THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELTS. WATER ACCUMULATES IN REAR CUP HOLDERS AND FLOOR BOARDS. ISSUE WAS REPAIRED ONCE BEFORE, FAILED AGAIN NOT EVEN A YEAR LATER.
THE RACK AND PINION STEERING GEAR FAILED. I WAS NOT DRIVING AT THE TIME. THERE IS A RECALL ON 2011 TO 2013 FORD EXPLORERS FOR THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER THE RECALL WAS FOR 2011-2013 MODELS BUILD THROUGH 2/28/12. CLEARLY THIS ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED IN FUTURE MODELS. MY VEHICLE'S STEERING FAILED AT 43,000 MILES.
I PURCHASED A USED EXPLORER IN LATE JUNE OF LAST YEAR WITH APPROX 25000 MILES ON IT. THE A-PILLAR MOLDING FLEW OFF IN TRAFFIC LAST WEEK AND I JUST FOUND OUT, THESE PARTS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT THAT FORD NEEDS TO REPLACE AND REPAIR AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPAS) COMPLETELY FAILED AGAIN. THIS TIME I DROVE THROUGH DEEP WATER OVER THE ROADWAY (16" DEEP). A DAY LATER A NOISE (LIKE AN UN-LUBRICATED ROLLER BEARING TURNING) COULD BE HEARD EVERY TIME THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED SUBSTANTIALLY (LIKE WHEN PARKING). AFTER 4-DAYS THE STEERING SYSTEM, ACCUTRAK, AND STEERING FAILURE MESSAGES CAME ON THE INFORMATION SCREEN WHILE DRIVING, BUT I WAS STILL ABLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT EFFORT. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO MY DESTINATION, BUT WHEN I SWITCHED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT, THE POWER STEERING WAS TOTALLY DEAD! IT REQUIRED SUPERMAN STRENGTH TO TURN WHEEL AND DRIVE. THOSE ARE THE FACTS. MY OPINION IS THAT FORD'S EPAS STEERING SYSTEM IS TERRIBLY DESIGNED, AND DANGEROUS! WHEN AN EPAS FAILS, IT SHOULD NOT BE MONUMENTOUSLY HARDER TO STEER THAN A FAILED HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM!!! (YOU CAN DRIVE OLDER CARS WITH FAILED HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING FOREVER!) I AM VERY AMAZED THAT MORE PEOPLE ARE NOT DEAD BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECTIVE SYSTEM.
STEERING COLUMN IS SUPPOSEDLY DAMAGED BY "ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS" ACCORDING TO DEALER SERVICE. I AM NOT SURE HOW THE ENVIRONMENT GETS IN THERE BUT THEY WON'T COVER IT EVEN WITH THE FORD PREMIUM CARE WARRANTY PACKAGE. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD 59,000 MILES. CAN'T TURN STEERING WHEEL EASILY, IT SKIPS SOMETIMES. THEY SAY THERE IS RUST AND CORROSION IN THERE AND ALMOST $1000 TO REPLACE AFTER PAYING OVER $2600 FOR THIS SUPER PACKAGE WARRANTY. IT COST ME $135 FOR THEM TO TELL ME THEY WOULDN'T COVER ANY OF IT!! I CAN'T BELIEVE FORD IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE THAT IS PRETTY COMMON AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH. PEOPLE NOT TO BE ABLE TO TURN THEIR STEERING WHEEL COULD TURN INTO A MAJOR ISSUE. IF I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN WHEN THEY WOULDN'T COVER ANYTHING BETTER BE SURE I WILL BE GETTING A LAWYER.
VEHICLE'S WATER PUMP BEGAN LEAKING DURING A NORMAL PATROL SHIFT. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL OF THESE FAIL AT VARIOUS MILEAGES AND EACH REPAIR THAT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY HAS COST US AROUND $2000.00 EACH TIME. I KNOW THESE ARE NOT ISOLATED INCIDENTS AND THAT THESE WATER PUMPS FAIL OFTEN. I RECALL BEING AT A FLEET CONFERENCE THIS PAST AUGUST AND SEEING A SLIDE DURING A PRESENTATION FROM FORD AND IT SHOWING THE CASTING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE OLD STYLE AND NEW STYLE PUMP. THE OLD CASTING WAS THINNER NEAR THE SEAL AREA AND THAT ALLOWED FOR EXCESSIVE HEAT WHICH CAUSED THE SEAL TO FAIL. THE NEW STYLE PUMP HAS A THICKER CASTING TO PREVENT THIS FAULT. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A WARRANTY EXTENSION OR RECALL ON THE THESE PUMPS JUST LIKE FORD ENDED UP DOING FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS.
THE FRONT A-PILLAR MOLDINGS SEPARATED FROM THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE AND CAUSED A SAFETY HAZARD TO OTHERS IN TRAFFIC. THIS OCCURRED WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 60-65 MPH.
CONTINUE TO SMELL A BAD ODOR FROM VENTS. CONTACTED FORD AND WANTED TO BRING IT IN BUT WILL COST MONEY TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. IT DOES THIS OCCASSIONALLY AND LASTS A FEW MINUTES. PREVIOUSLY HAVE SMELLED A STRONG GAS ODOR WHICH MADE ME HAVE A SEVERE HEADACHE FOR HOURS. THOUGHT THERE GOING TO BE A RECALL. HAVE 2013 BASE MODEL.
UPPER STRUT MOUNT PASSENGER SIDE GONE BAD. MAKES NOISE WHEN STEERING. DOES IT WHEN IN MOTION OR STATIONARY.
MY EXPLORER HAS AN ISSUE WHEN STOPPED AND IN DRIVE WITH THE AC ON THE CAR PULLS/LUNGES FOWARD AS IF I HIT THE GAS/ ALSO WHEN IM PARKED AND THE AIR CON IS RUNNING AT SOME POINT THE ENGINE GOES DOWN BELOW 500 RPMS THEN KICKS UP TO 700 TO COMPENSATE THEN KICKS DOWN TO BELOW 500 , OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IF REV THE ENGINE A BIT, THEN IT GOES BACK DOWN TO NORMAL IDLE AND ITS FINE FOR MAYBE 10 MINUTES THEN DOES IT ALL OVER AGAIN. THIS CAN BE A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE CAR PULLS ITSELF FOWARD WITH NO HUMAN INTERACTION. THERE IS MULTIPLE WEBSITES DECLARING THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THIS CAR. GOOGLE 2013 EXPLORER ROUGH AC IDLE YOU WILL SEE LOTS OF PEOPLE COMMENTING ON IT.
STEERING HARD WITH GRINDING NOISE. PARKED VEHICLE. UPON NEXT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE POWER STEERING DID NOT WORK UNTIL HEAVY FORCE TO TURN WHEEL. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE VEHICLE WHICH HAD LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING LOW SPEED BUT AFTER STOP NO POWER ASSIST WORKED.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILURE . WHILE DRIVE THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL
VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, NO PREVIOUS ISSUES NOTICED. TRIED TO LATCH SEAT BELT BEFORE DRIVING AND LATCH WILL NOT HOLD BUCKLE IN PLACE TO SECURE SEAT BELT FOR DRIVER.
MY FORD EXPLORER 2013 BACK TAILGATE WINDOW SHATTERED. IT WAS COLD OUT ABOUT 30 DEGREES BUT MY REAR DEFROST WAS NOT ON AT ALL THAT DAY. I DROVE MY CAR TO WORK WHICH IS ABOUT A 15 MINUTE DRIVE. I GOT IN THE LEFT HAND TURN LANE TO MAKE A LEFT TURN INTO MY WORK AND IT SHATTERED. NO CAR BEHIND ME. I WAS GOING ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR. I THEN TURNED INTO THE PARKING LOT OF MY WORK.

ON ANOTHER OCCASION, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING, THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND THE DOOR LOCKS MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT BECAME LOCKED OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT CHAPMAN AUTO STORE (6744 E BLACK HORSE PIKE, EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ 08234, (609) 646-2000), BUT HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.
STEERING GOT REALLY HARD WHILE DRIVING, COULD BARELY TURN THE WHEEL. FELT LIKE I DIDN'T HAVE POWER STEERING. DID IT SEVERAL TIMES ON WAY HOME TRYING TO TURN. NEXT MORNING STEERING WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY LOCKED. CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND DELIVERED TO FORD DEALER. THEY SAID THE STEERING RACK (POWER ASSISTED) IS DEFECTIVE AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. I TOLD DEALER THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AND THAT I WANTED THE DEFECTIVE PART BACK.

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES TO THE CHEST THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
