FORD MOTORCRAFT BATTERY (OVERCHARGE OR POSSIBLE LEAKING BATTERY) CAUSED EXTENSIVE CORROSION TO BATTERY TERMINAL AS WELL AS BATTERY CABLES AND HOUSING. READ ONLINE AND THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH FORD VEHICLES. NOT ONLY DID THE BATTERY NEED TO BE REPLACED BUT THE CABLES AND HOUSING DID AS WELL. VEHICLE IS LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED IMAGE TO SEE EXTENT OF CORROSION. THIS PICTURE WAS TAKEN AFTER THE TERMINAL WAS SEMI-CLEANED IN ORDER TO JUMP THE BATTERY. BECAUSE OF THIS EXTENSIVE CORROSION, CABLES WERE SO CORRODED IT WOULD NOT MAKE A GOOD CONTACT WITH NEW BATTERY. AS I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER, THE CAR KEPT LOSING POWER AS THE BATTERY WAS CONTINUALLY DISCONNECTING. THIS COULD HAVE EASILY HAPPENED TO SOMEONE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF BATTERY TERMINAL CORROSION. THERE WAS ZERO CORROSION ON THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL. THE POSITIVE TERMINAL IS THE PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON A BACK ROAD THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OF MY FORD EXPLORER SUDDENLY OPENED FOR NO REASON WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE SUDDEN DOOR OPENING CAUSED ME TO SWERVE AND I HIT THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR ON A SIGN POST. UPON EXAMINATION AFTER PULLING OVER, THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE APPEARED TO BE DEFECTIVE. IT HAD FALLEN APART, A SMALL LATCH IN THE HANDLE WAS BROKEN CAUSING IT COME LOOSE ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE DOOR FOR NO REASON. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE, THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR, AND THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW ENDED UP HAVING TO BE REPLACED. DUE TO RESOURCEFULNESS OF MY HUSBAND, WE WERE ABLE TO OBTAIN PARTS AND REPAIR THE DAMAGES OURSELVES BUT THE COST OF THE PARTS ALONE TOTALED IN EXCESS OF $400.00.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE ALSO HESITATED BEFORE ACCELERATING. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
THE "DOOR AJAR" LIGHTS DO NOT GO OFF FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER AND FRONT DRIVERS DOORS. IT APPEARS THE DOORS ARE SHUT, BUT THE CENSORS DO NOT GO OFF. BECAUSE THE CENSORS DO NOT GO OFF, THE DOME LIGHT STAYS ON MAKING IT HARD TO SEE AT NIGHT AND DRAINING THE BATTERY. THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK MAKING IT A SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN THE DRIVERS DOOR CENSOR IS ON, IT SETS OFF OTHER ALERTS LIKE "SHIFT TO PARK" AND "ENGINE IS ON" BECAUSE IT THINKS THE DOORS ARE OPEN AND IT CONTINUOUSLY BEEPS OR ALERTS ME. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ALMOST ONE YEAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CHARGED ME TO CLEAN THE LATCH. THEY SAID THIS HAD BEEN AN ISSUE WITH OTHER EXPLORERS AND SOMETIMES IT HELPS, SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT. IT DID NOT HELP. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH IT FOR ALMOST A YEAR. THE DOME LIGHT STAYS ON EVEN WHEN THE KEYS ARE NOT IN THE IGNITION. THESE CENSORS COME ON WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED, IN PARK, AND SOMETIMES RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING.
THIS IS MY THIRD ATTEMPT AT THIS. MY EXPLORER HAS THE EXHAUST PROBLEM YOU ARE SEEING IN THE NEWS. I HAVE TRIED TO WORK WITH THE DEALERSHIP, FORD DIRECTLY AND NOW ONE WANTS TO ACKNOWLEDGED. I HAVE BEEN CHASING THIS FOR A FEW YEARS. MY KIDS AND I ARE GETTING ILL AND WITH 100 DEGREE TEMP AND BELOW ZERO CLIMATE WE HAVE TO USE THE AIR. THEY ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEIR OUTER WINDOW PILLARS WHERE THEY WILL COME LOSE AND RANDOMLY FLY OFF ON THE FREEWAY. BELOW IS MY CONVERSATION WITH FORD DIRECTLY WHO CLAIM THIS IS RARE AND DOES NOT CAUSE SAFETY RISK, TO SEE THE DEALERSHIP WHO NEEDS TO TAKE THE CAR APART AT MY EXPENSE TO EVEN TRY AND LOCATE THE PROBLEM.
2013 FORD EXPLORER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE VIN NOT LISTED UNDER POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE RECALL NOTICE. CONSUMER HAS PREVIOUS COMPLAINT ON ANOTHER VEHICLE IN ARTEMIS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING WOULD NOT ALWAYS FUNCTION ON INITIAL START UP. THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A STEERING RECALL, BUT THE VEHICLE'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. *JS
MY FORD EXPLORER HAS A DISTINCT ODOR WHEN I ACCELERATE. I BROUGHT IT INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. I HAVE HAD A CONTINUAL STRONG SMELL FROM THE VEHICLE. IT HAPPENS WHEN I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL, GENERALLY ON AN UPHILL INCLINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A WHISTLING SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
I PURCHASED A NEW 2013 FORD EXPLORER IN PUERTO RICO ON NOVEMBER 2014. SINCE THE FIRST DAY IT LEAKED EXHAUST FUMES INTO THE CABIN WHEN ACCELERATING. AFTER MORE THAN 10 SERVICE VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD BY FORD FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER CARLOS J. DOMINGUEZ "THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT WAS CAUSED THE VEHICLE'S DESIGN, THE ANGLE AND HEIGHT IT STANDS FROM THE ROAD AND THE VACUUM THAT CAUSED WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED". I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH LYMPHOMA - CANCER A YEAR AND A MONTH AFTER I PURCHASED MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER. I TRADED IT IN FOR A NEW 2016 FORD EXPLORER LAST MAY IN THE HOPE THE NEW MODEL DID NOT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, BUT IT DOES. AFTER DEALERSHIP CONSULTED FORD, THEY ASKED ME TO BRING THE UNIT IN TO PERFORM THE SAME REMEDIES AS MY PREVIOUS 2013 FORD EXPLORER UNIT. CONSULTED MY ONCOLOGIST AND WE ARE LOOKING INTO THE POSSIBILITY THAT MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER MIGHT HAVE CAUSED MY LYMPHOMA CANCER.
I HAVE GOODYEAR FORTERA P245/65R17 105T TIRES AS OEM ON THIS VEHICLE.THE TREAD HAS DRY ROTTED CRACKS JUST LIKE THE TIRES RECALLED IN 2015.THE FIRST SIGN OF PROBLEM WAS TIRE LIGHT COMING ON. WHY ARE THESE TIRE BEING RECALLED ALSO?
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70MPH ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY THE POWER STEERING SHUTDOWN AND THE VEHICLES STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY STIFF TO THE POINT YOU COULD HARDLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL.I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO FORD TO HAVE IT INSPECTED , THEY INFORMED ME NOTHING WAS WRONG AND ALL IT NEEDED WAS TO BE RESET. WITHIN 10 DAYS OF LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE THE VEHICLE AGAIN STARTED TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FORD ONCE AGAIN, THIS TIME THEY HAD ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY NEED TO BE REPLACED . WITHIN DOING RESEARCH 2011-2013 FORD EXPLORERS HAVE THIS SAME POWER STEERING ISSUE, UNDER RECALL. FORD REFUSES TO FIX MY VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO VIN RESTRICTIONS. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND NEGLIGENT TO SAY THE LEAST.
CONTAMINATION OF THE METAL IN THE HOOD AT THE FACTORY IS CAUSING THE PAINT TO BUBBLE AND FLAKE OFF.
THE TAILGATE LIFT IS UNSAFE. IT DOES NOT DETECT WHEN SOMEONE IS UNDER IT WHEN IT LOWERS. I DID NOT KNOW THE PERSON BEHIND THE CAR HAD PUSHED THE BUTTON ON TAILGATE TO LIFT IT. MY DAUGHTER HAD BENT OVER PLACING THINGS IN BACK. UNKNOWN TO ME, I PUSHED THE BUTTON INSIDE CAR TO LIFT THE GATE, BUT INSTEAD IT LOWERED. IT COULD HAVE SQUEEZED THE BREATH OUT OF MY DAUGHTER.
VAPOR CANISTER PURGE VALVE INOPERATIVE AT 72,000 MILES CAUSING A MISS/ HESITATION WHEN VEHICLE WAS RUNNING. LIGHT CAME ON AND A LOSS OF POWER OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE. IMMEDIATELY DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THIS WAS IDENTIFIED AS THE VAPOR CANISTER PURGE VALVE. FORD DECIDED THIS WAS NOT AN EMISSIONS COMPONENT AND DID NOT WARRANTY THE REPAIR UNDER THEIR 80000 MILE EMISSIONS WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THIS IS CLEARLY DEFINED AS AN EMISSIONS COMPONENT BY THE EPA.
STRANGE GASEOUS FUMES NOTICED IN 2013 FORD EXPLORER - MOST NOTICABLE AT FULL THROTTLE, DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND COMING TO A STOP. IT PERSISTED FOR COUPLE OF WEEKS SO TOOK CAR TO DEALER 12/29. MECHANIC COULD NOT SMELL ANYTHING AND CAR RETURNED WITH NO FIX. TOOK CAR BACK IN ON JAN 6TH. DEALER NOTIFIED ME OF THE SERVICE NOTIFICATION AND PERFROMED A FIX INCLUDING EXHAUST REPLACEMENT. PROBLEM WAS THEN RESOLVED BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR TEH ISSUE WHICH WAS OBVIOUSLY ALREADY KNOWN.
STEERING ASSIST FAULT LIGHT COMES ON WHEN I CRANK MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED AND WON'T TURN WHEN I TRY TO LEAVE A LOCATION. I HAVE TO SWITCH THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART IT IN ORDER FOR IT TO RESET.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, AN EXHAUST ODOR EMITTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES, WHEEL BEARING, AND FUEL SENDING UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, A MONTH LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SLOW SPEEDS AND TURNING, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
DRIVER'S DOOR LATCH WILL NOT MOVE. DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE. DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON.
REAR BRAKES SEIZED SIMULTANEOUSLY ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. DEALERSHIP STATED CORROSION WAS THE ISSUE. VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED 3 MONTHS PRIOR WITH NO MENTION OF CORROSION. SEIZURE CAUSED FAILURE OF CALIPERS, PADS, ROTORS, AND LININGS ON BOTH SIDES. REPLACEMENT WAS PAID OUT OF POCKET, NOT COVERED BY ESP AND NOT BACKED UP BY PREMIUM MAINTENANCE PLAN.
MY PROBLEM IS THAT THERE IS A STRONG GAS SMELL INSIDE CAR. I HAVE SMALL KIDS THAT I DRIVE TO SCHOOL BACK AND FORTH AND I HAVE NO WARENTY.
WHEN SHIFTING TO PARK, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT REGISTER THAT CAR IS IN PARK. I.E. THE P WILL NOT LIGHT UP AND IF YOU TURN CAR OFF IT WILL BEEP TELLING YOU TO SHIFT TO PARK. IN MY 2001 EXPLORER IT WOULD GET STUCK SHIFTING TO PARK AS WELL. SEEMS TO BE A VEHICLE ISSUE BECAUSE BOTH VEHICLES HAVE DIFFERENT SHIFTING MECHANISMS. HAPPENED 6 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED IT IN 2015 AND TILL DOES IT TO THIS DAY.
I WAS WASHING MY CAR THIS WEEKEND AND NOTICED BUBBLES UNDER THE PAINT ON THE EDGE OF MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER HOOD. I IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT IT WAS RUST AND WENT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER. ONCE AT THE BODY SHOP THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE SEEN MANY FORDS WITH ALUMINUM HOODS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM BUT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME CAUSE I WAS OVER 36K MILES. APPARENTLY THIS PROBLEM GOES BACK TO 2007. I COULD NOT BELIEVE FORD HAD THE AUDACITY TO KNOWINGLY PRACTICE A MANUFACTURING PROCESS THAT HAD UNDESIRABLE RESULTS. I CALLED FORD AND THEY CLAIMED THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. TO MAKE IT WORSE, THEY CLAIM IT WAS NOT A KNOWN ISSUE, HENCE NO RECALL. WAITING TO HEAR FROM A SUPERVISOR, BUT NOW I KNOW I WILL NOT GET A FAVORABLE RESPONSE UNTIL WE RECEIVE RESULTS OF CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN NJ. BTW, MY ONE DEALER CLAIMS A CONSIDERABLE LARGER AMOUNT OF REPAIRS THAN COMPLAINTS YOU SEE HERE.
CAR HAS AUXILIARY A/C SYSTEM AND CABIN WILL FILL WITH EXHAUST SMELL AFTER MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. THIS IS TO SAY AFTER HEAVY ACCELERATION AND THEN BACKING OFF TO TRAFFIC SPEED YOU CAN SMELL EXHAUST IN THE CAR AND WHEN I DO I OPEN A BACK WINDOW TO GET RID OF THE ODOR. HAVE PERSONALLY GOTTEN HEADACHES AFTER LONGER DRIVES AND NOW SUSPECT EXHAUST. A/C SETTINGS ARE IN RECIRCULATION WITH THE AUXILIARY SYSTEM ON ALSO. DEALERSHIP HAD A TECH RIDE WITH ME AND WE WENT FOR A DRIVE IN THE CAR, HE DID NOT SMELL THE EXHAUST TO THE SAME DEGREE AS I DID BUT SAID THERE WAS A TSB TO SEAL THE REAR AREA OF THE CAR AND THE REAR VALANCE WOULD HAVE TO BE TAKEN OFF. (RATHER LONG JOB) DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WOULD COST ABOUT $669 AND IS NOT COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY OR BY A SAFETY RECALL. THIS IS SOMETHING I THINK THE MANUFACTURE SHOULD TAKE CARE OF SINCE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (BO BEUCKMAN QUALITY FORD, 15675 MANCHESTER RD, ELLISVILLE, MO 63011, (800) 401-6441) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,509.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND ALL THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AS THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS DRIVEN TO THE RESIDENCE. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,120.
INFO DISPLAY ON DASH WOULD ALWAYS STATE "SHIFT INTO PARK" EVEN AFTER TURNING OFF THE ENGINE WITH CAR ALREADY INTO PARK POSITION--FORD DEALER HAD TO REPLACE SHIFTER CONTROL AT A COST OF $462.54--WAS TOLD BY SERVICE TECH THEY HAVE THE PART IN STOCK--AND HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE ON NEWER CARS--WAS TOLD PART CANNOT BE FIXED.
PAINT BUBBLING AND FLAKING ON THE HOOD.
WHEN ACCELERATING THERE IS A SULFUR/ROTTEN EGG SMELL THAT COMESHE FROM THE EXHAUST, I FIRST NOTICED IT AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR IN OCTOBER OF 2015. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS TILL I READ THE ARTICLE OF THE POLICE OFFICER THAT CRASHES HIS CRUISER.
MY 2013 EXPLORER HAS 23190 MILES AND WAS BOUGHT NEW AND HAS BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALER ACCORDING TO FORD'S SERVICE PLAN SINCE NEW. A FEW DAYS AGO I NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE AND BURNING SMELL FROM THE REAR OF MY EXPLORER.THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY DRIVERS SIDE REAR CALIPER HAD SEIZED UP AND I NEEDED NEW REAR BRAKES. HE SAID THAT THIS WAS DUE TO ROAD SALT, WATER AND DEBRIS CONTAMINATING THE REAR BRAKES. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS NOT WARRANTY COVERED AND MY COST WAS $389.84. I'VE READ IN NUMEROUS FORUMS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM ON MOST EXPLORERS LIKE MINE. I FEEL THAT THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF IT HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. LUCKILY MINE HAPPENED WHEN I WAS PARKING MY EXPLORER. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER AN INSPECTION REPLACEMENT RECALL.
I WAS BACKING UP FROM PARKING SPOT IN A CITY GARAGE AND WHEN I PLACE THE CAR IN DRIVE MY POWER ASSISTED STEERING (EPAS) FAILED. I GOT THE POWER STEERING FAULT ERROR, ADVANCETRAC ERROR AND TERRAIN MANAGEMENT ERROR. THE CAR WAS TOO DIFFICULT TO MANUALLY STEER ACTUALLY NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. IT TOOK ALMOST 1 HOUR AND 2 GROWN BIG MEN TO MANUALLY STEER IT OUT OF THE GARAGE SO THAT IT COULD BE PUT ONTO A FLAT BED TOW TRUCK. FORD CLAIMS THAT MY VIN# NUMBER IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL (14S06) FOR THIS ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I HAD IT TOWED TO HAS QUOTED ME AROUND $2,000 TO REPLACE THE STEERING RACK. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD AND FORD NEED TO TAKES RESPONSIBILITY AND CORRECT THIS ISSUE.
I NOTICED RIGHT AFTER BUYING MY CAR THAT IT WOULD SOMETIMES BE IN PARK, BUT THE CAR WOULD TELL ME TO SHIFT TO PARK. I TALKED WITH THE SALES GUY AT THE DEALERSHIP, HE SAID HE WOULD LOOK IN TO IT. IT HAPPENED A FEW TIMES. THEN ONE TIME, I SHIFTED TO PARK IN A RAIN STORM AND RELEASED THE BRAKE. I LOOKED IN TO THE PASSENGER SEAT TO GRAB MY THINGS AND THE CAR ROLLED IN TO MY HOUSE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE AND TO THE CAR.
WHILE DRIVING AND MAKING A TURN THE POWER STEERING LOCKS UP WITH AN ERROR CODE STATING "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" IN MY EXPERIENCE THIS HAPPENED WHEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND NOW IT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AND MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN TO CROSS A BUSY INTERSECTION. THE ONLY THING THAT RELEASES THE STEERING IS TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL HOWEVER, IT'S THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM YET, FORD "HAS NEVER HEARD OF IT" I HAVE CHILDREN AND I FEAR THAT FORD WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM OR DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE AND WE ARE IN A FETAL ACCIDENT. I REFUSE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AS IT'S UNSAFE AND I WILL NOT PUT MY KIDS LIFE AT RISK. HELP!!
TAKATA INFLATORS, I BOUGHT MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER IN JULY OF 2015. BY NOVEMBER 2015 MY CAR HAD BEEN MAKING VERY LOUD SCRAPING NOISES EVERY TIME I TURNED RIGHT OR LEFT. I BROUGHT IT TO THE FORD DEALER THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM TO GET IT CHECKED OUT. THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING RACK, WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY OR RECALL. IN RESEARCHING ONLINE I FOUND THAT SOME 2013 FORD EXPLORERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND ARE COVERED UNDER AN ACTIVE RECALL. MINE STILL IS NOT!!! I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN AND WAS TOLD THAT IT NEEDED TO GET FIXED ASAP OTHERWISE MY STEERING WHEEL COULD FREEZE UP, WHICH WOULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND PUT OUR LIVES IN DANGER. LOSS OF POWER STEERING. AFTER EXPERIENCING LOSS OF POWER STEERING ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS I PERFORMED ONLINE RESEARCH AND BECAME AWARE OF SAFETY RECALL 14S06. I CONTACTED FORD FOR RESOLUTION AND THEY INFORMED ME MY VEHICLE IS NOT SUBJECT TO RECALL. THE VEHICLE WITH SOME 19,000 MILES IS OUR OF WARRANTY (>36 MONTHS). FORD INDICATED THAT ANY REPAIRS FOR THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION WOULD BE AT OWNER EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS PRODUCED ON THE ASSEMBLY LINE IN CHICAGO WHICH WAS THE ORIGIN OF THE VEHICLE DEFECT WHICH PROMPTED THE RECALL. HOWEVER, IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH AFTER THE RECALL CUT-OFF. I CONTEND THAT THE DEFECT WAS STILL PRESENT AND THE RECALL SHOULD BE BROADENED. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT WITH POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING CONSEQUENCES. FORD HAS BEEN UNRECEPTIVE IN EVEN INVESTIGATING THE MATTER. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING ON THE OCCASIONS WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED, WHILE NEGOTIATING A CURVE. MY PROFESSIONAL DRIVER INDICATED THAT THE CAR HAD TO BE STOPPED AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTED TO RESET THE POWER STEERING. NO DRIVER FEEDBACK OF A TROUBLE CODE.

WEIRD SMELL WHEN A/C IS TURNED ON AND WHEN ACCELERATING.
UNDER HEAVY ACCELERATION (I.E. HIGHWAY ON-RAMP), A VERY STRONG ODOR (BURNING RUBBER, EXHAUST?) ENTERS THE CABIN. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME, WHETHER THE AC IS ON OR OFF, RECIRCULATING OR FRESH AIR. THE ODOR IS EXTREMELY STRONG AND LASTS SEVERAL MINUTES. I'M ESPECIALLY CONCERNED FOR MY 3 YEAR OLD SON WHO IS EXPOSED TO THIS.
DRIVING VEHICLE THROUGH INTERSECTION, TURNING, , LOST POWER STEERING, AND TEMPORARILY LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE. WAS ABLE TO MUSCLE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. DISPLAY MADE A CHIME NOISE, AND STATED "POWER ASSIST FAILURE" ( OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT). I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF ROAD, TURNED OFF VEHICLE, WAITED 2 MIN, STARTED IT AGAIN AND IT WORKED FINE. FOUND THERE IS A RECALL "14S06" FOR EXACT MODEL AND YEAR WITH EXACT DESCRIPTION OF MY FAILURE. TOOK VEHICLE TO CLOSEST FORD DEALER, THEY SAID IT IS COVERED UNDER RECALL AND THERE WOULD BE NO CHARGE AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER NUMEROUS CALLS BACK AND FORTH WITH DEALER AND FORD, FORD CLAIMS THIS VIN IS NOT COVERED. I HAVE PAPERWORK FROM THE DEALER THAT SHOWS PART NUMBER NEEDED IS FOR THE STEERING GEAR # DB5Z-3504-NE, WHICH IS THE PART NUMBER IN THE RECALL. I AM UNABLE TO FIND A VIN # LIST AS IT APPEARS FORD DOES NOT HAVE ONE AND THEY DECIDE WHEN YOU CALL WHO GETS THE RECALL AND WHO DOES NOT. THERE IS NO TRANSPARENCY IN SUCH AS SYSTEM. IF FORD KNOWS OF THIS ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL AND KNOWS IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS RESULTED IN ACCIDENTS, PER NHTSA, WHY AM I BEING REJECTED FOR THE EXACT SAFETY ISSUE ON THE EXACT MODEL AND YEAR? EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES LOOSE AND STICKING.
THE EXHAUST LEAKS INTO THE CAR INTERIOR WHEN YOU ACCELERATE QUICKLY. IT'S A HORRIBLE SMELL, THAT LINGERS UNTIL YOU ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURING FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH MY VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP IN DENVER TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN DALLAS WANTS ME TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THIS ISSUE THAT THEY'VE KNOWN ABOUT FOR YEARS. DURING LONGER DRIVES, I OFTEN GET SUPER SLEEPY AND NAUSEOUS. THIS IS AFFECTING MY HEALTH, AND MY FAMILY'S HEALTH.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that the sunroof failed to close securely. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the sunroof motor was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The dealer replaced the sunroof motor a second time in 2019; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sunroof motor needed to be replaced. Additionally, the dealer diagnosed that the failure was due to debris intrusion into the sunroof motor. The dealer informed the contact that the sunroof tubes needed to be kept clean to prevent debris from entering the sunroof motor. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

MY DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS ONLY OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. MY BACK PASSENGER SIDE DOOR DOES NOT OPEN AT ALL. I'VE HAD THE FRONT LOCKS GREASED AND THEY STILL ONLY OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. SO TO GET IN THE VEHICLE, YOU HAVE TO UNLOCK IT, OPEN BACK DRIVER SIDE DOOR, REACH IN AND OPEN DRIVER DOOR AND THEN PASSENGER FROM INSIDE. NO MECHANIC I'VE SPOKEN WITH OR TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO HAS BEEN ABLE TO GET IN THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR INCLUDING THE DEALERSHIP.

EXHAUST SMALL AFTER HIGH ACCELERATION LASTING ABOUT FIVE MINUTES THEN DIMINISHING. SETTING OF THE HVAC SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE IRRELEVANT, ON OR OFF. I PREVIOUSLY BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO (2015) FOR THIS SPECIFIC EXHAUST SMELL ISSUE BUT THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN AND CONTINUES TO OCCUR.
PAINT ON HOOD HAS CORRODED CAUSING THE PAINT TO PEEL OFF. IT IS HAPPENING ALL ALONG BOTTOM EDGE OF HOOD. CAR HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT.
PAINT IS BUBBLING UP ON THE HOOD OF THE CAR. CALLED FORD AND THEY SAY ITS OUT OF WARRANTY SORRY. THE CAR IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO A 40,00 DOLLAR CAR.
