STARTED LOOSING POWER STEERING THEN LOST ALL ASSIST COMPLETELY VERY UNSAFE TO OPERATE HAD TO RETURN HOME I COULDN'T CONTROL THE VEHICLE I HAVE TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO HER RESIDENCE AND POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
STARTED VEHICLE TO GO TO WORK AND HAD NO POWER STEERING. POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED BOX POPPED UP. TURNED VEHICLE OFF AND ON, STILL FAULTED SO I TRIED A FEW MORE TIMES. PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE, BACKED UP, THEN WENT FORWARD. LOST STABILATRAC, WENT INTO MENU AND BOX WAS UNCHECKED AND I WAS UNABLE TO SELECT IT. ALSO AT THE SAME TIME A COLLISION WARNING FAULT APPEARED. LOOKED DOWN AT THE TERRAIN MANAGEMENT, THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATED SO I TURNED IT. INSTANT TERRAIN MANAGEMENT FAULT APPEARED. SO NOW I HAVE 4 BOX FAULTS ON THE LEFT DISPLAY AND TWO YELLOW STABILATRAC LIGHTS ON TO THE RIGHT, ONE SAYS OFF WITH THE SYMBOL AND THE OTHER JUST THE SYMBOL. TRIED UNHOOKING BATTERY, NO LUCK. CALLED FORD DEALERSHIP, MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 2 DAYS LATER, THE EARLIEST. STARTED VEHICLE UP NEXT DAY, NOTHING CLEARED. CALLED TOW COMPANY AND TOLD THEM TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT CAN SIT THERE. TALKED TO SERVICE MANAGER AND SOUNDS LIKE THEY ALREADY HAD AN IDEA I WAS GOING TO BE GETTING A NEW STEERING RACK. I'M JUST GLAD I WASNT DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS LIKE A LOT OF THE OTHER POSTS AND HOW ARE A FEW YEARS ON RECALL WHEN IT SEEMS TO BE ALL YEARS FROM 2011 ON UP. VEHICLE IS WAITING FOR ANOTHER DAY TO GET INTO THE MECHANICS BAY EVEN THOUGH I ALREADY KNOW IT WILL BE A 1500 TO 2500 DOLLAR REPAIR. VEHICLE HAS 76K MILES. DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE KEY FOB. OH AND IT WAS -38 DEGREES WITH WINCHILL.

WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED IN EITHER DIRECTION, A CLUNKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME MORE DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BANNER FORD (1943 N. CAUSEWAY BLVD, MANDEVILLE, LA) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SPORADICALLY TIGHTEN AND THE "STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND "CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM" INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REFERRED THE CONTACT TO BRANDON FORD (9090 E ADAMO DR, TAMPA, FL 33619, (813) 246-3673) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW ALTERNATOR WAS NEEDED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A SECOND OPINION. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO INFORMED HER THAT THE ALTERNATOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH ONE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AGAIN. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE DEALER WAS RECOMMENDING A HIGHER REPAIR BILL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
While driving on the IH-20 highways in Dallas, Texas, the TRIM panels in the RIGHT side of the Windshield fell off the vehicles. I was driving 70 MPH and 75 MPH on IH-20. Weather was clear and was not using the windshield wiper. Had to buy 2 NEW TRIMs, (1 for Left side and 1 for the Right side) from the Ford Dealer and utilized a Windshield repair company to fix the failed units.

AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BRYDEN FORD (303 N. CENTER ST, DURAND, IL) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE P1450 WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED A DIAGNOSTIC APPOINTMENT WITH MCREE FORD (2800 GULF FWY, DICKINSON, TX 77539). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
UPON DRIVING THE CAR, THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT FULLY ENGAGED. IN FIRST GEAR, A LOUD RATTLING SOUND WAS HEARD. CAR WOULD NOT PROCEED FORWARD. BROUGHT TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY TRANSFER CASE. SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD AS PER NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE WITH NO RECALL ISSUED BY FORD.
WHILE DRIVING OUR 2014 FORD EXPLORER, THE SERVICE STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, THEN THE ACS FAULT WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. AT THAT TIME, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THE TURN SIGNALS QUIT WORKING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE COULD STILL BE STEERED MANUALLY BY A PHYSICALLY STRONGER PERSON, BUT NOT BY THE AVERAGE PERSON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, WHERE WE WERE INFORMED THAT A NEW RACK AND PINION WOULD BE NEEDED. THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THIS REPAIR HAS BEEN COVERED UNDER A PREVIOUS RECALL FOR 2011-2013 EXPLORERS, HOWEVER, THAT MY PARTICULAR MODEL WAS NOT COVERED. AFTER DOING MORE RESEARCH, THE STEERING GOING OUT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM IN ALL LATE MODEL FORD EXPLORERS. I AM CONCERNED THAT IF FORD HAS NOT RESOLVED THIS ISSUE IN LATER MODEL EXPLORERS, THERE WILL BE ACCIDENTS RESULTING FROM THIS MALFUNCTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE A CLUNKING SOUND AND THE STEERING SEIZED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED, WHICH WAS STILL PENDING. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
THE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS ON THE VEHICLE WILL EITHER STAY UNLOCKED OR LOCKED AND IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO GET IN AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE. FOR EXAMPLE I PULLED UP TO MY INFANT SONS DAYCARE TO DROP HIM OFF FOR THE DAY, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK, NO MATTER IF I USED THE KEY FOB OR THE BUTTONS ON THE INSIDE OF THE FRONT DOOR, THE LOCK WOULD NOT PULL UP FROM THE INSIDE EITHER I EVENTUALLY HAD TO PULL HIM OUT OF THE VEHICLE THRU THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR.
STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. THEREFORE, THE POWER STEERING SHOW POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND TRACTION CONTROL COMES ON. SO WHILE DRIVING IT GOES OUT IT IS HARD TO DRI E AND CAN CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH I NOTICED A LOUD SCRAPING NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS BEING HELP BACK WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED A FAULTY POWER TRANSFER UNIT ($2,000 REPAIR). THE CAR HAD 81,000 MILES AND WAS NEVER USED FOR TOWING.
EXHAUST SMELL IN VEHICLE
LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY DOING OVER 55MPH. TOOK TO A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR, THEY FIXED IT, THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING RACK... WORKED FOR 3 WEEKS AND NOW IT IS NOT WORKING AGAIN. AGAIN WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON THE ROAD THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT.
THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE 2014 FORD EXPLORER DO NOT ALUMINATE THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. EVEN WITH THE FOG LIGHTS NOT, YOU CAN BARELY SEE OVER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN CONCERNING ME FOR AWHILE, SO I HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED. EVERYTHING IS IN PERFECT CONDITION. ITS THE CAR / DESIGN. I HAVE ALSO SEE OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH THIS COMPLAINT ONLINE AS WELL. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN THE DARK.
IN JUNE OF 2015 FORD ISSUED A TSB 15-0113 ABOUT A DEFECT WITH THE SECOND ROW INFLATABLE SEAT BELT SYSTEM THAT WOULD EXHIBIT AN AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. THIS CONDITION RENDERS ALL AIRBAGS INOPERABLE, NOT JUST THE SEAT THAT IS EFFECTED. ON 12/29/2018 I TOOK SAID VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE BECAUSE OF THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASH. A $54 PART WAS INSTALLED AT A LABOR COST OF $650 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IF YOU NOTE FIGURE 1 OF THE TSB THE WIRE HARNESS WRAPS AROUND A SEAT SUPPORT AND THE FIX SHOWN IN FIGURE 2 OF THE SAME TSB ELIMINATES THAT WRAP THAT WHICH CAUSES THE WIRE TO GET PINCHED AND SEVERED. TSB 16-0001 WAS ISSUED IN JANUARY 2016 SUPERSEDING THE PREVIOUS TSB. PASSENGER SAFETY IS EXTREMELY CRITICAL AND I'M WONDERING WHY YOUR ORGANIZATION DID NOT GET INVOLVED, AS PASSENGER SAFETY IS ONE OF YOUR MAJOR CONCERNS OR FORD WAS NOT REQUIRED TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE UP FRONT, QUICKLY AND ELIMINATE A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD? MY VEHICLE WAS AT THE FORD DEALER FOR SERVICE ON THE FOLLOWING DATES;APRIL 2015, DECEMBER 2016, AUGUST 2016, FEBRUARY 2017 AND NOT ONE TIME DID ANY SERVICE TECH LOOK UNDER THE REAR SEAT AND REROUTE THE NECESSARY WIRE HARNESS TO ELIMINATE A POTENTIA LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION. ONLY AFTER A COMPLETE FAILURE OF MY AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS ANYTHING DONE. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE SAFETY VIOLATION BY FORD AND ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS CONFIGURATION SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED AT FORDS EXPENSE. MY FAMILY WAS AT RISK DURING THE TIME THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 FORD EXPLORER ALONG THE FREEWAY DOING ABOUT 70 MPH AND STARTED SMELLING AN ODOR WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND A BELL STATED BEEPING. A MESSAGE ON THE LEFT BLINKED ON STEERING FAILED PARK SAFELY AND STEERING TRACTION LIGHTS CAME ON . THE CAR WAS HARD TO STEER. I HAD TO FIND A PLACE TO PULL OVER QUICKLY. I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR OFF THE FREEWAY. WE SAT THERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPEN AND IF WE COULD POSSIBLY DRIVE IT HOME. BUT OF COURSE WE COULDN'T AS THE STEERING WHEEL WAS COMPLETELY LOCKED. NOTHING WE COULD DO BUT CALL A WRECKER TO TOW THE CAR HOME. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING IN THE FAR LEFT LANE, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A DANGEROUS POSITION TO GET HIT AS THE CAR LOST POWER ALL OF A SUDDEN. LAST NIGHT WHILE CHECKING FOR RECALL INFORMATION, I FOUND THIS WEB SITE AND LEARNED THAT ALMOST A HUNDRED OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM BUT COULD NOT FIND A RECALL NUMBER. I GOING TO VENTURE A GUESS THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN ENOUGH SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATHS YET. WE WERE QUOTED OVER $1800 TO REPAIR OUR CAR. WE CANNOT AFFORD THIS. SOMEONE NEEDS TO SAY ENOUGH, ALL THESE SAME PROBLEMS ON THE SAME CAR HAS TO BE A MANUFACTURER'S FAILURE. THE CONSUMERS NEED HELP NOW. IS ANYONE LISTENING TO US?
AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE ON AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. TOOK INTO FORD TO BE DIAGNOSED, WAS TOLD IT IS THE REAR SEAT INFLATOR CONTROL.
VEHICLE STATIONARY, ATTEMPT TO ENGAGE TRANSMISSION IN PARK RESULTS IN ERROR MESSAGE "TRANSMISSION NOT IN PARK".
WHINING, SQUEAKING NOISE FROM STEERING COLUMN UPON TURNING OR MOVING THE WHEEL AT ANY SPEED, LEFT OR RIGHT. DEALER SAYS THE ENTIRE STEERING ASSEMBLY AND COMPUTER HAS TO BE REPLACED TO PREVENT STEERING FAILURE IN THE FUTURE, AT THE COST OF $1900. I SEE OTHER RECALLS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM IN YEARS 2011-2013 AND 2015-2017. I HAVE ALSO READ A LOT OF ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM IN OTHER 2014 EXPLORERS.
MY TIRES ARE LOSING AIR FOR NO REASON.THEY HAVE BEEN INSPECTED AND THERE ARE NO HOLES IN THEM. I AM HAVING TO ADD AIR EVERY OTHER DAY. THEY ARE ALSO RIPPING ON THE SIDEWALL FOR NO REASON. THIS STARTED IN AUGUST AND I AM STILL DEALING WITH THIS NOW. ITS DECEMBER 5, 2018. I EVEN LOOKED IT UP ONLINE AND THE TIRES THAT I HAVE WERE RECALLED BY HANCOOK. FORD HAS NO INFO ON A RECALL.
WHILE DRIVING THE INTERSTATE, MY WINDSHIELD TRIM STARTED TO PEEL AWAY, STRIKING THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW AS IT GOT WORSE. I CHOSE NOT TO STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE FOR SAFETY REASONS AND BY THE TIME I ARRIVED AT THE NEAREST REST AREA, 8-10" OF THE TRIM HAD COME LOOSE. AS I WAS STILL 60 MILES FROM HOME, I CHOSE TO TUCK THE TRIM INTO THE DOOR AND CLOSE IT, WHICH KEPT IT FROM TEARING AWAY ANYMORE. THE NEXT DAY, THE PIECES HAD JUST FALLEN OFF INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I'M SHOCKED THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT'S HAPPENING TO VEHICLES LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD - MINE IS ONLY 4. I'M JUST HAPPY THAT THE WHOLE THING DIDN'T TEAR AWAY (AS IN OTHERS REPORTED ON THE INTERNET) HITTING SOMEONE OR SOMETHING AND CAUSING DAMAGE. THE COST TO REPAIR IS $265 PER SIDE - NOT COVERED BY FORD. I CALLED FORD AND WHILE THEY ADMIT THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LARGE NUMBER OF EXPLORERS, THEY WILL NOT COVER IT UNTIL A RECALL IS ISSUED.
'TAKATA RECALL' SEATBELT LIGHT CAME ON WHEN DIAGNOSED, WE WERE TOLD ITHE ISSUE WAS THE REAR SEATBELT AIRBAG.

DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL DEFROST FREEZING RAIN ICING CONDITIONS DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE BROKE CURRENTLY BLOWING COLD AIR ON PASSENGER SIDE DEFROST WHEN HEAT IS ON. VISIBILITY SEVERELY AFFECTED ON PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. VEHICLE IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING LIKE EVERY OTHER DAY, AND SHE LOST POWER/ACCELERATION, AND SHE PULLED OFF THE MAIN ROAD TO A SIDE ROAD, AND FROM THERE IT WOULD NOT MOVE. OUR 2014 FORD EXPLORER, 2.0L I4 HAD A FRONT RIGHT DRIVE AXLE BREAK OFF FOR NO REASON AND JAM ITSELF INTO THE TRANSMISSION. ALL THE TECHS AT FORD HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE, AND HAVE NO REASONS WHY IT WOULD DO THAT. IT TOOK THREE TECHS TO GET IT OUT. NOW RESULTING IN TRANSMISSION DAMAGE. WE ARE JUST OVER 100K MILES, BUT THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE DUE TO THERE BE NO REAL REASON OR EVENT WE CAN TRACE THIS TO. FORD DID NOT LET US SEE THE DAMAGE OR PICTURES OF IT. WOULD THEY BE COVING?
NOTICED LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHILE TURNING RIGHT DRIVING LESS THAN 10MPH. NO LIGHTS HAVE COME ON YET. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE STEERING RACK IS FAILING AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. I NOTICED THAT THE 2011,12,13 RECALLED BUT DOESN'T COVER THE SAME PROBLEM THAT 2014'S ARE HAVING.
CAR DID NOT FEEL RIGHT AFTER ABOUT 10 MILES OF HIGHWAY DRIVING BUT I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO STEER. A FEW MILES AFTER SEVERAL WARNINGS CAME ON TELLING ME THERE IS A STEERING FAILURE AND TO STOP AND GET IMMEDIATE SERVICE. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND HAD THE CAR TOWED AND IT'S AT THE DEALER NOW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE SUDDENLY CRASHED INTO A SECOND VEHICLE. DURING THE CRASH, THE THIRD ROW SEAT BELTS MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE TWO CHILDREN SEATED IN THE THIRD ROW TO JERK FORWARD AND SLAM INTO THE BACK OF THE SECOND ROW SEATS. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE CHILD SEATED ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SUSTAINED LACERATIONS TO THE NOSE AND MOUTH AND THE CHILD SEATED ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SEAT SUSTAINED SEVERE LACERATIONS TO THE FOREHEAD. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PERIODICALLY GOES OUT, THE DASH LIGHTS BLINK OFF AND ON, ALRMS GO OFF WITH MESSAGES THAT STATE THERE IS A FAILURE OF TERRAIN, MANAGEMENT, ABS SYSTEM AND POWER STEERING, THEN THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT IMMEDIATELY , DASH IS BLACK. DRIVER DOOR AJAR LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY COMING ON. THE INDOOR LIGHTS DO NOT POWER DOWN FOR A FEW MINUTES. THE ALARM BELL RINGS PERIODICALLY WHILE IN MOTION INDICATING THE DOOR IS AJAR. THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK. THIS HAPPENS PERIODICALLY ON THE HIGHWAY AS WELL AS DRIVING AROUND TOWN. WHEN IN PARK, THE ALARM BELL WILL BEEP TWICE TO INDICATE THE DOOR AJAR SIGNAL IS ON, BUT THE DOOR IS LOCKED. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN THE LAST SIX MONTHS.

NOTICED LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHILE TURNING EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT WHILE TRAVELING AROUND 40MPH. NO LIGHTS HAVE COME ON YET. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE STEERING RACK IS FAILING AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. FORD QUOTED ME ROUGHLY $1500 FOR THE RACK AND LABOR, THIS IS CRAZY THAT THE 2011,12,13 RECALL DOESN'T COVER THE SAME PROBLEM THAT 2014'S ARE HAVING.
I have had the windshield replaced for the trim coming loose on both sides. I was able to use duct tape to keep them in place until replacement. That was a few years back. Then it happened again. Now it is happening again. So 3 times in 8 years.

THE OIL IS BLACK AND THERE IS METAL FILINGS ON THE PLUG. TRANSFER CASE NEEDS REPLACEMENT." DEALERSHIP SERVICE ADVISOR SAYS THIS IS VERY COMMON, "...HAVE DONE OVER A HUNDERED...". WAS CAUGHT ONLY BECAUSE SMELL WAS MENTIONED. SCHEDULED INSPECTION/OIL CHANGE OF TRANSFER CASE NOT REQUIRED FOR ANOTHER 6000 MILES. VEHICLE HAS NEVER TOWED ANYTHING AND IS NOT USED OFF-ROAD. WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT HOME I FELT ON THE HIGHWAY I FELT THE STEERING WANTING TO BIND, WHEN I TURNED IT FELT AT AN INTERSECTION LIKE IT WAS STUCK AND COULD NOT GET IT TO TURN. HEADACHES BY MY HUSBAND AND MYSELF WHILE DRIVING OR RIDING. CARBON MONOXIDE READINGS FIRST TIME READ AT 11PPM ON A 10 MINUTE TRIP. CONTINUAL MONITERING READS AT 6-9 ON NORMAL DRIVING. READINGS AT 14 ON ACCELERATION. I FEEL IT'S UNHEALTHY AND SAFETO DRIVE THIS CAR DAILY.
ALL RECOMMENDED REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED ON THE FORD EXPLORER AND EXHAUST FUMES ARE STILL PRESENT IN THE CABIN.
