DRIVERS SIDE (WINDSHIELD OUTER MOULDING TRIM PILLAR) FLEW OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY NEARLY HITTING CARS BEHIND ME CONTINUING TO RUBBER FLAP POUNDINGON WINDOW AND MIRROR UNTIL RUBBER FLAP ALSO FLEW OFF.
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A PARKED POSITION, THE ENGINE APPEARS TO SKIP, AND OR BUCK. IT IS NOTICEABLE, BUT THE DEALER CANNOT REMEDY IT.
TOUCH SCREEN (BACK UP CAMERA, MUSIC, CLIMATE CONTROL, ETC) SOMETIMES DOES NOT TURN ON WHEN TURNING ON THE VEHICLE. IT CONTINUES TO REMAIN OFF, SHOWING ONLY THE WORD 'FORD'. EVENTUALLY (AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF DRIVING) THE SCREEN TURNS BLACK AND THEN IT TURNS ON.
POWER STEERING FAILURE WHILE IN MOTION ON INTERSTATE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, A HIGH PITCHED SQUEALING NOISE WAS PRESENT COMING FROM THE WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CARMAN FORD LINCOLN (193 S. DUPONT HWY, NEW CASTLE, DE) WHERE THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER AFTER IT SHOOK WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE BRAKE CALIPERS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE SQUEALING NOISE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
STARTED WITH HEARING GROANING/GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING. I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AFTER A FEW DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AROUND 35 MPH. RECEIVED THE WARNING LIGHTS "LOSS OF STEERING" AND "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". THERE ARE SO MANY RACK AND PINON FAILURES IN LATE MODEL EXPLORERS. THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED!!
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITH MY FAMILY AND WITH NO WARNING THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ALONG WITH A NOTIFICATION SAYING, "STEERING LOSS STOP SAFELY" AND "SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC". HAD MY GIRLFRIEND BEEN DRIVING WE PROBABLY ALL WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED BY A SEMI COMING THROUGH THE CURVE AS I WAS STRUGGLING TO STEER THE VEHICLE AND KEEP IT IN OUR LANE AS THERE WAS NO PLACE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I FINALLY MANAGED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AFTER STRUGGLING THROUGH THE CURVE. I CALLED A FRIEND TO PICK UP MY FAMILY AND MANAGE TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK HOME DRIVING VERY SLOW STRUGGLING WITH THE STEERING WITH HAZARD LIGHTS ON. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH I FOUND THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THE SAME ISSUE ON 2011-2013 AND 2015-2017 FORD EXPLORER 'S BUT NOT THE 2014! EVEN THOUGH 1000'S HAVE REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE 2014. THIS IS RIDICULOUS ITS ALMOST AS IF PEOPLE HAVE TO GET KILLED BEFORE THEY DO SOMETHING ABOUT ABOUT THIS.
TIMING CHAIN AND CAM PHASERS CAUSING VEHICLE TO EXCEL ERASE AND STOP WITH NO CONTROL. POWER STEERING GOING IN AND OUT WHILE DRIVING.
Electric flickering occasionally smells like something burning. No warnings alerted. Interior lights/radio dim or go off or flash. Transmission problems, jerking, loss of power Cabin fills with exhaust fumes especially when stopped Unknown occurrence dates has been happening for at least 2yrs
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BILL ALEXANDER FORD LINCOLN MERCURY (801 E 32ND ST, YUMA, AZ 85365) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONNECTOR UNDER THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL* THE CONTACT CALLED ON BEHALF OF THE OWNER OF A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND WAS UNABLE TO TURN. THE "FAILURE ON FULL ELECTRIC STEERING CONTROL" AND "SAFELY PARK THE VEHICLE" MESSAGES WERE ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED AN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING LOSS AND WANTED TO KNOW IF THAT COULD HAVE BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V245000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO PRIORITY FORD (LOCATED AT 7520 N MILITARY HWY, NORFOLK, VA 23518, (757) 419-2500), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH WHEN I WENT TO SWITCH LANES AND NOTICED MY STEERING WAS TIGHT AND HARD TO TURN TOWARD THE LEFT. MY VEHICLE THEN CONTINUED TO HAVE THIS ISSUE WITH STEERING BEING TIGHT TO THE POINT I WAS WORRIED ABOUT GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT. I STOPPED DRIVING MY CAR AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH FORD DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND ACTUALLY ONE THAT I FOUND OUT MY SISTER HAD WITH HER 2012 EXPLORER WITH THE STEERING ASSEMBLY OR COLUMN. HER SAME EXACT ISSUE THOUGH WAS COVERED UNDER A RECALL AND MINE IS NOT.
I WAS DRIVING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO MANEUVER.. IT GETS REALLY STIFF AND HARD TO CONTROL. ONCE IT STICKS TO A SPECIFIC PATH IT WANTS TO GO IN THAT DIRECTATION AND I LOSE CONTROL OF MANAGING THE DIRECTION OF THE FORD EXPLORER 2014 XLT.
DRIVER VISOR MIRROR AND BUTTONS FOR GARAGE DOOR OPENER FAILED TO FUNCTION IN 2018. DEALER REPLACED THE VISOR. FIRST WEEK OF MAY OF 2019 VISOR MIRROR AND GARAGE DOOR BUTTONS ARE ON THE REPLACEMENT VISOR ARE NOT FUNCTIONING. ALSO THE LIGHTS ON THE SIDE MIRRORS THAT INFORM YOU THAT ANOTHER VEHICLE IS APPROACHING WORK ONLY OCCASIONALLY. THE VEHICLE IS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. THE OTHER VISOR MIRROR IS FUNCTION CORRECTLY.
I HAD STOPPED TO GET GAS AND ONCE I RETURNED TO THE CAR AND PUT IT IN GEAR IT MADE A HORRIBLE SOUND AND THE STEERING WENT OUT AND I COULD HARDLY MOVE THE WHEEL. TURNED THE CAR BACK OFF AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES, TURNED IT BACK ON AND STILL NO POWER STEERING. LUCKILY FOR ME MY HUSBAND WAS STILL IN TOWN AND HE HAD TO COME AND DRIVE THE CAR TO THE DEALER SINCE I COULD NOT TURN IT AT ALL TO EVEN MOVE IT AWAY FROM THE GAS PUMP. THE REPAIR BILL WAS $1,800 FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT BE GOING OUT ON A LESS THAT 5 YEAR OLD VEHICLE THAT COST CLOSE TO $30,000! I JUST FEEL BLESSED THAT MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE NOT ACTUALLY DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN IT WENT OUT LIKE OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT.
BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD CAR WAS IN GREAT SHAPE. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER STEERING STARTED LOCKING UP AND WAS HARD TO TURN, THE FOLLOWING DAY ALMOST WRECKED WHEN VEHICLE STAYED TURNING LEFT WHEN MERGING ON THE HIGHWAY. WE TURNED AROUND AND DROVE HOME AND ON EVERY TURN THE STEERING WAS VERY HARD HAD 2 NEAR MISSES .I'M JUST GLAD MY TEENAGE DRIVER WASN'T BEHIND THE WHEEL. WE HAVEN'T DRIVEN OUR CAR SINCE AND AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT WE ARE TO NERVOUS TO LET IT BE DRIVEN .

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MCLAUGHLIN FORD (950 N MAIN ST, SUMTER, SC 29150, (888) 471-4257) WHERE AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED AND THE COMPUTER WAS RESET. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE CONTACT REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO J.C. LEWIS FORD (9505 ABERCORN ST, SAVANNAH, GA 31406, (912) 210-5690) WHERE THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE STILL OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MULTIPLE UNKNOWN DEALERS, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 113,738.
APIM unit and plastic body components 2014 Explorer, Sync2 v3.10 Symptoms: Malfunction of power window controls, radio controls, rear camera and vent controls. The APIM also controls many other safety functions, such as safety lanes, park assist, backup guides, gps, cruise control, trailer/tow information, and other warnings/features. It is notable that Ford has issued recalls for the APIM due to safety issues in different year Explorer, as well as F150, F250, F350, Escape, Expedition, Fusion and Lincoln models Navigator and MK2 models, to name a few. This has been reported once, I spoke with a Ford representative and he setup an appointment at the dealership that was to setup an appoint for diagnosis before they setup a repair/replacement appointment. An appointment to setup an appointment to setup a diagnosis appointment to setup a repair appointment. Seriously, what is up with that? Finally, plastic window components had to be replaced. Ford issued a recall on these items but it was after we had the repairs completed. They refused reimbursement.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STEERING BECOMES EXTREMELY HARD DUE TO POWER STEERING SENSORS BEING FAULTY. ALSO STEERING SHAFT FROZE MAKING IT HARD TO TURN.
TAKATAT RECALL?? I GOT IN MY CAR 1 MORNING TO GO TO WORK AND I COULDN'T GET THE MALE PART OF DRIVERS SEATBELT INTO THE FEMALE PART OF SEATBELT. MY DIVERS AIRBAG SEATBELT LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR 2 MONTHS. I CANNOT BUCKLE DRIVERS SEATBELT INTO THE FEMALE PART OF THE SEATBELT SO WHEN I AM BY MYSELF I BUCKLE DRIVER SEATBELT INTO PASSENGER SEATBELT. I CALLED MARSHALL FORD IN O'FALLON MISSOURI THEY TOLD MY I NEEDED TO PAY $150.00 FOR THEM TO PUT MY CAR ON THE MACHINE FOR THEM TO FIGURE OUT WHAT SENSOR IS BAD. I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY $150.00 MUCH LESS PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. PLEASE TELL ME IF THERE IS ANOTHER FIX. MY CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. HELP!
POWER STEERING FAILED. MY 2014 FORD EXPLORER HAS 85,245 MILES. TODAY I STOPPED FOR GAS. WHEN I RE-STARTED I GOT AN ERROR MESSAGE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED". STEERING WAS EXTREMELY HARD. I AM GLAD THIS DID NOT HAPPEN YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS 250 MILES FROM HOME PULLING MY SMALL CAMPER!! THIS IS RECALLED ON THE 2013 & 2015 MODELS, WHY NOT THE 2014??
DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE WOULD NOT ENGAGE / LOCK. THIS BECAME A PROBLEM EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE AND THEN STEADILY GOT WORSE TO THE POINT THE BUCKLE WOULD NOT ENGAGE / LOCK ALL TOGETHER. FORD REPLACED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY (BILLED EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE COMPANY FOR PART AND LABOR) - I BELIEVE THIS PART SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY FORD DIRECTLY SINCE IT HAS TO DO WITH DRIVER SAFETY. ASKED ABOUT THIS PART BEING AN ISSUE ON OTHER FORDS AND WAS TOLD IT WASN'T A KNOWN ISSUE. I'VE OWNED DOZENS OF CARS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM.
I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY ON APR 21ST AND THE STEERING WHEEL FELT A LITTLE SENSESTIVE/ARTFICAL BUT IT WAS WINDY OUT SO I THOUGHT IT WAS MAYBE DUE TO THE CONDITIONS OUTSIDE. SO WE TRAVELED ABOUT 30 MINUTES THEN THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON STATING "STEERING LOSS STOP SAFELY" CAME ON WHICH WAS A SHOCKING SO WE PULLED OVER TO CHECK FOR ISSUES. AT THIS TIME THE STEERING WAS STILL OK JUST JUST TOUCHY, SO I RESTARTED THE CAR THINKING IT WOULD RESET THE COMPONENTS THAT WAS MAYBE THROWING THE MESSAGES, THE RED WARNING WENT AWAY BUT WAS RETURENED BY THE SAME MESSAGE AS WE PULLED IN TO THE DRIVEWAY OF MY HOME BUT AT THE SUGGESTION OF THE DEALERSHIP THEY ASKED THAT I REMOVE THE BATTERY FOR 1 HOUR TO SEE IF THE COMPONENTS WOULD RESET DUE TO THAT BUT DID NOT HELP THINGS AT ALL SO I HAD TO BRING IT IN ON 4-20 WHICH THEY INFORMED ME OF THE $2K BILL TO FIX WHICH IF YOU DO RESEARCH IS A HIGHLY COMMON ISSUE WITH-IN THE F-150, EXPLORER AND FLEX LINE UPS. SO MY QUESTION, WHY IS FORD NOT OFFERING TO FIX AN ISSUE WHICH CLEARLY MAKE THE CAR TOTALLY UN-SAFE AND UN-DRIVEIBLE?
WHEN SUDDENLY ACCELERATING TO SPEED OVER 65 MPH , EXHAUST GAS/FUMES ENTER THE MAIN CABIN, AND LINGER FOR SOMETIME, UNTIL I OPEN ALL WINDOWS TO DISSIPATE THE FUMES. THIS ISSUE ALWAYS OCCUR DURING SUDDEN ACCELERATION. I HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY INSTALLED EXTERNAL SEALS BUT ISSUE CONTINUES, EVEN AFTER THE FIXES.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND HEARD A SCRAPING SOUND SIMILAR TO THE SOUND OF ICE SCRAPING ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD BEFORE IT FLIES OFF. THE NEXT MORNING I NOTICED THAT THE TRIM AROUND THE WINDSHIELD WAS GONE. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST MY CAR BUT I AM NOW SEEING MORE EXPLORERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED A FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO RECALL AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR.
DRIVING ON FREEWAY 70 MPH ALERT LEFT SIDE OF DASH BRIGHT RED STEERING SYSTEM FAILURE STOP CAR SAFELY . LOSS OF POWER TO STEER THE VEHICLE . NO CONTROL , TRACTION . ANOTHER ALERT IN YELLOW SYSTEM FAILURE SERVICE ASAP . ALERT RED AGAIN STEERING SYSTEM FAILURE STOP CARE SAFELY . UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. TURNED CAR OFF TRIED TO RESET UNABLE NO STEERING MECHANISM . HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED UNABLE TO DRIVE. STEERING WHEEL SEEMED LOCKED AND NOT ABLE TO TURN RIGHT OR LEFT. CODE FROM DEALERS SAID 3500 BUCKS TO FIX STEERING MECHANISM FAILURE. NO WAY TO OVERRIDE OR RE PROGRAM . CAR FAILED WHILE DRIVING . SCARY
I STARTED TO LISTEN A NOISE WHEN I TURNED RIGHT WITHOUT ANY ADVICE ON BOARD. CAUSE THE NOISE (IT WAS INCREASING) I DECIDED TO GO TO FORD SERVICE CENTER (FORCENTER) AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAVE TO CHANGE ALL STEERING SYSTEM WITH A COST OF USD 3000. THIS KIND OF FAILURE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR A CAR OF THESE SKILLS, MY CAR HAS ONLY 55.000 KMS AND ONLY IT WAS USED ON THE CITY AND WHEN THE MAIN ARGUMENT OF SALE IS THE SAFETY. READING OTHER USERS, IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE THAT A FAILURE LIKE THAT IT MUST CONSIDERED ONLY AN USER PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE STEERING ABILITY BECAME VERY DIFFICULT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WORSENED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY CLOSE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,415.
THERE'S MOISTURE BUILDUP IN THE REAR TAILLIGHT ASEMBLY THAT BURNED OUT THE LED LIGHTS. THE WHOLE TAILLIGHT ASEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE COST AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP IS $525.00. I HAVE SINCE BEEN PICKED UP BY LAW ENFORCEMENT THAT'S DRIVING A FORD EXPLORER. I TOLD HIM I WAS AWARE OF THE TAILLIGHT. I PROCEEDED TO TELL HIM THAT IT WAS GOING TO COST $525.00 TO FIX IT. I FEEL THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE A RECALL. NOTHING ON THE ASEMBLY IS BROKEN
ON APRIL 10, 2019 WE WERE PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY TO LEAVE MY HOUSE AND NOTICED A GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END, IT WAS VERY LOUD. WE TOOK IT TO A REPUTABLE MECHANIC COMPANY LOCAL TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC THE SOUND. THIS COMPANY IS ASE-CERTIFIED. AFTER REVIEWING MY EXPLORER THEY STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS BAD AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ASAP DUE TO THIS BEING A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND WE SHOULDN'T WAIT TO GET IT REPLACED. $1998.21 LATER WE RECEIVED THE CAR BACK THE NEXT DAY FIXED. I HAD CALLED FORD AND EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT THIS WAS A SAFTEY ISSUE AND WE HAD READ ON LINE THAT THE PREVIOUS YEARS HAVE BEEN RECALLED. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY YEAR DOESNT HAVE A RECALL AND STATED I COULD WRITE A LETTER AND THAT WAS ALL I COULD DO. I ALSO ASKED IF ANYONE WOULD FOLLOW UP WITH ME AND FORD COULDNT ANSWER MY QUESTIONS. WE JUST RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE FOR THE TOE LINK. SO THAT CAR IS GOING BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THAT WORK. THIS IS RECALL NUMBER 4 THAT I HAVE HAD TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR.
DURING ACCELERATION EXTREMELY STRONG SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES CAN BE DETECTED BY PASSENGERS SEATED IN BACK AND MIDDLE ROW OF VEHICLE. DURING ALL OTHER TIMES LESSER AMOUNTS OF EXHAUST FUMES ARE PRESENT WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THESE FUMES ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO MAKE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE NAUSEOUS DURING LONG TRIPS. EVEN THOUGH FORD HAS SENT MULTIPLE NOTIFICATIONS CONCERNING THIS AND INDICATING THEY WILL TAKE SMALL ACTIONS AGAINST THIS WHEN WE ARRIVE AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS THEY DENY ANY KNOWLEDGE AND REFUSE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM.
WHEN DRIVING, THE WHEEL WOULD BE HARD TO TURN SOMETIMES. IT STARTED OCCASIONALLY BUT NOW THE POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND IT IS THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MODULE. THIS PART HAS BEEN RECALLED ON ALL NEWER MODELS OF THE FORD EXPLORER EXCEPT 2014. THIS HAS CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS WITH OTHER OWNERS OF THE 2014 FORD EXPLORER AS AT SOME POINT, THE STEERING STOPS WORKING COMPLETELY. FORD HAS HEARD COMPLAINTS FROM SEVERAL OWNERS WITH NO RESPONSE. THIS IS A $2500.00 FIX THAT I CAN'T AFFORD. I HAVE A WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE, HOWEVER THIS PART IS NOT COVERED, OF COURSE. A $20,000 VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT PUTS ME AND MY CHILDREN IN DANGER.
WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP WHEN STARTING THE CAR TO DRIVE. LIGHT CAME ON STATING STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 69,306.7 MILES ON IT AND IS ONLY USED TO GO BACK AND FORTH TO WORK AND WAS PURCHASED IN SEPTEMBER 2014 AND NOW IT IS MARCH 2019. TOOK TO FORD DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RACK AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD COST ME OVER $2,000.00 TO FIX. IT HAS TO BE FIXED BECAUSE ITS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THIS VEHICLE IS USED TO TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND RECALL DUE TO BEING A SAFETY HAZARD. WHAT IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP, OR IF MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER THAT JUST GOT HER LICENSE AND IS AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER WAS DRIVING THIS CAR AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP?THIS COULD BE FATAL.
WHEN DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN OR SNOW, I GET A WARNING ON MY DASH SAYING LOW BATTERY MODE, AND THEN I LOSE ALL FUNCTIONS, INCLUDING POWER STEERING, COLLISION WARNING, LIGHTS ON MY DASH AND DISPLAY. IT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. EVERYTIME IT RAINS OR SNOWS I SUFFER WITH THIS ISSUE.
WE HAVE EXPERIENCED A CLICKING NOISE ON OUR CAR OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS AND MY WIFE HAS BEEN COMPLAINING OF HEADACHES AND FATIGUE DURING THE SAME TIME AS WELL. WE TOOK THE CAR INTO THE SHOP AND IT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS A CRACK EXHAUST MANIFOLD WHICH WOULD COST US $1,100 TO FIX. I RESEARCHED AND SAW THIS 1.3MILLION REPORTS OF THE SAMETHING. I CALLED FORD AND THEY REFUSED TO HELP WITH THE REPAIRS AS THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. I AM NOT SURE HOW YOU DON'T RECALL A VERY KNOWN ISSUE THAT I NOW SEE PERSONALLY CAUSES HEALTH ISSUES THAT COULD BE FATAL - PLUS YOU GET WITH A COST THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF. NOT GOOD BUSINESS AND VERY DANGEROUS - IT IS SAD IT MAY TAKE A FATAL ACCIDENT BEFORE FORD RECALLS THIS.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

FUEL SMELL/FUMES ENTERING PASSENGER CABIN WHEN AC/HEAT IS ON. SOMETIMES AT A STOP OR SLOW PACE AND WINDOWS ARE OPEN FUMES OR SMELL IS APPARENT. ONCE PARKED YOU CAN SMELL FROM THE FRONT PART OF THE VEHICLE IN THE HOOD NEAR THE WIPER BLADES.
WHILE DRIVING MY EXPLORER DOWN A CITY STREET AT APPROX 45MPH, THE STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY TIGHT. A WARNING LIGHT SAYING 'STEERING ASSIST FAULT' CAME IN AND THEN THE 'TRACTION CONTROL OFF' LIGHT CAME ON. IMMEDIATELY AFTER BOTH OF THOSE LIGHTS CAME ON A RED LIGHT CAME ON SAYING 'STEERING FAILURE SERVICE REQUIRED' CAME ON AND I COMPLETELY LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER THE SUV. I MANAGED TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD SAFELY AND STOPPED. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN AT ALL. I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP NEAR ME AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. THEY SAID THERE IS A RECALL ON 2011-2013 AND 2015-2017 FORD EXPLORERS BUT NOT THE 2014 AND WHAT I WAS DESCRIBING IS WHAT HAPPENS TO THE OTHER MODELS YEARS UNDER RECALL. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THE 2014 EXPLORERS FOR THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY AS WITH THE SURROUNDING MODEL YEARS. HAD I BEEN A LESS EXPERIENCED DRIVER THIS WOULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH AND COULD HAVE INJURED OR KILLED MYSELF OR OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROAD. THE FAILURE OF THIS SYSTEM IS DANGEROUS TO NOT ONLY THE DRIVER BUT TO OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROAD.
TRUNK CANNOT OPEN
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE'S POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE STEERING TOOK MUCH MORE MUSCLE TO MANEUVER, AND WAS A LOT LESS RESPONSIVE. THERE WAS NO INDICATION ON THE DASH THAT ANYTHING OCCURRED. IN THE DAYS FOLLOWING THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM INTERMITTENTLY KICKED IN AND BACK OUT, MAKING IT HARD TO STEER CONSISTENTLY AND REQUIRING MUCH MORE ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE HAS STILL NEVER PROVIDED ANY INDICATION THAT THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM HAS BEEN COMPROMISED. IN READING ABOUT THIS FAILURE IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF THIS VEHICLE WERE RECALLED FOR STEERING FAILURES AS WELL.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 78,902.
CHAIN DRIVEN WATER PUMP FAILURE AT 85,000 MILES
2014 FORD EXPLORER STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP, I THOUGHT IT WAS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK MOTOR BUT BAD "ELECTRONIC" NOISE IF YOU TURN WHEEL EITHER WAY. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE IT WILL START UP AND STEER NORMALLY, BUT THEN MANUAL STEERING, THEN LOCKED UP AGAIN. NO CODE. WIFE WAS ON HIGHWAY WHEN IT WENT OUT, SAYS SHE WONT DRIVE IT AGAIN. I FOUND OUT NOW THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING GEARS HAVE BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE,... FORD, OWN UP AND HELP WITH THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR.
VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER WHEN DRIVING ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. ESPECIALLY WHEN TRYING TO TURN LEFT. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO SCANNED THE STEERING CONTROL SYSTEM AND TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE CODE SHOWED RACK INTERNAL FAILURE AND IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING RACK. TOTAL QUOTED COST IS $1942 + TAX. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THIS HAD BEEN THE TOPIC OF A RECALL, HOWEVER THE YEARS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DO NOT INCLUDE THE 2014. WILL BE CONTACTING THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO DISCUSS FURTHER ACTION THIS SHOULD BE COVERED, AS IT IS THE SAME ISSUE OF THE PREVIOUS RECALL, DESPITE BEING A LATER MODEL AND A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE LOSS OF THE SENSOR COULD CAUSE THE WHEELS TO STEER IN THE WRONG DIRECTION AND BECOME A MAJOR PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY ON 2 OCCASIONS, THE A-PILAR TRIM PIECES HAVE FLOWN OFF OF BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. THIS NEARLY CAUSED A COLLISION FOR THE VEHICLES DRIVING AROUND ME. I ALSO LEARNED THAT POSSIBLY SECONDARY TO THE TRIM PIECES FLYING OFF, THE VEHICLE IS NOW COLLECTING WATER ON BE FLOORBOARD WHICH HAS LED TO A MOLD INFESTATION IN THE VEHICLE. FORD SAID THE AFOREMENTIONED DESCRIBED ITEMS ARE NOT A MANUFACTURED OR WARRANTY REPAIR. NOW MY 5 MONTH OLD CHILD IS EXPLODED TO MOLD BECAUSE FORD CANNOT LOCATE WHERE THE VEHICLE IS LEAKING FROM.
I KEEP GETTING DROWSY ON LONG DRIVES. MY EYES GET IRRITATED. I HAVE FINALLY PURCHASES A CO MONITOR THAT CAN DOWNLOAD DATA. THE SPIKE OF 61 PPM OCCURRED WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING TO GO OVER BATH MOUNTAIN HEADED EAST ON 17 FEB. THE AUDIBLE ALARM WENT OFF SO I KNEW I HAD A PROBLEM. THE ALARM GOES OFF AT 50PPM. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO FORD OVER 20 TIMES, ALL THEY DO IS MAKE CHANGES TO THE EXHAUST IN THE REAR. THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS AN EXHAUST LEAK THAT IS ENTERING THE CABIN IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE!
