WHILE DRIVING WITH AIR RECIRCULATING, CAN SMELL EXHAUST INSIDE CAR AT HIGHER RPM. WHILE ACCELERATING ON STRAIGHT HIGHWAY.
THE CABIN FILLS WITH A STRONG EXHAUST FUME ODOR EACH TIME YOU PERFORM A MODERATE TO HARD ACCELERATION. THIS HAS OCCURRED CONTINUOUSLY SINCE PURCHASE IN 2015. THE DEALER WAS INFORMED AND HAS TAKEN NO ACTION.
EXHAUST OR FUMES IN CABIN W REAR AC
A 2015 FORD EXPLORER WAS INVOLVED IN A HIGH SPEED SIDE-IMPACT AND ROLLOVER COLLISION. THE SEATBELT WAS WORN AT THE TIME OF THE COLLISION BASED ON A PREPONDERANCE OF PHYSICAL EVIDENCE ON THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT SYSTEM AND INTERIOR VEHICLE COMPONENTS. THE ACM REPORTED THE DRIVER WAS "NOT BUCKLED" AT THE TIME OF THE COLLISION. THE PRETENSIONER DID NOT FIRE. THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY WAS TESTED AND THE BUCKLE SWITCH APPEARED TO BE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. AFTER THE IGNITION WAS CYCLED TO "ON" FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 MINUTE AND 10 SECONDS, THE SEATBELT WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AND DEACTIVATED PROPERLY WHEN THE LATCHPLATE WAS INSERTED AND REMOVED REPEATEDLY. AFTER 1 MINUTE AND 10 SECONDS, THE SEATBELT WARNING LAMP WOULD ILLUMINATE AND DEACTIVATE SPORADICALLY AS THE LATCHPLATE WAS INSERTED AND REMOVED.
EXHAUST LEAKING INTO PASSENGER COMPARTMENT ON ACCELERATION.
The Gear Shift Selector would not register when the Gear Shift was in Park. This condition prevented turning the engine off. A costly repair was paid for and it has since been noted this is a common complaint on Ford Explorers. Another failed Ford design for which they should be held accountable. The complete Gear Shift Assembly was replaced May 12, 2017 53,86 miles
EVERY TIME I TURN ON THE A/C THERE IS A NASTY SMELL THAT COMES TO LIFE AND LINGERS FOR ABOUT 3 MINS. MY CAR WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW AND THE SMELL HAPPENED RIGHT AWAY, I BRUSHED IT OFF AS NEW CAR SMELL BUT THIS IS THE 2ND SUMMER IN WHICH THE SMELL CONTINUES TO FILL THE AIR WHEN THE A/C IS ON. THIS ODOR SMELLS UNSAFE FOR ME AND MY KIDS. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND MANY MANY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF THE SAME THING. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT. IN WHICH THEY TOLD ME I HAVE TO BUY A NEW FILTER FOR MY BRAND NEW CAR. THIS DOESNT MAKE SENSE. I CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE TO WHICH THEY SAID THEY CAN NOT ASSIST IN THIS MATTER. WHY HASNT THERE BEEN A RECALL YET? IF FORD CAN CONFIRM THIS ODOR IS HARMLESS THEN PLEASE SEND THE A LETTER STATING SO. I HAVE ASKED FOR THIS AND THEY STATE THEY CANNOT PROVIDE AS SUCH. EVERY TIME I TURN ON THE A/C I AM BREATHING IN FUMES OF UNKNOWN SUBSTANCES. HOW LONG BEFORE THE ODORS ARE FOUND TO BE HARMFUL AND THE DAMAGE TO MY HEALTH AND MY CHILDRENS HEALTH IS COMPROMISED? PLEASE HELP MAKE FORD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS.
STRONG BURNING/EXHAUST SMELL WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATES.
VERY STRONG EXHAUST SMELL, HAS MADE MY WIFE I'LL, CAUSING SICK TO THE STOMACH AND HEADACHES
THE FRAME AROUND THE FRONT WINDOW FLIES OFF. THE RIGHT SIDE (ABOUT 2 FOOT PIECE) FLEW OFF WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. THE LEFT SIDE FLEW OFF LAST WEEK WHILE AGAIN DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. THIS COST SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS EACH TO REPLACE AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD. IN LOOKING ONLINE THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS.
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY, LOST CONTROL AND WAS BARLEY ABLE TO STOP TRUCK AFTER RIGHT LOWER CONTROL ARM BROKE IN HALF. BALL JOINT WAS ALSO COMPLETELY OUT OF SOCKET. I DON'T SEE HOW SOMETHING THIS DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE CAN HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING.
BAD ODOR COMING INTO CABIN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. ROTTEN EGGS, SULFER LIKE SMELL. I HAVE A HAND HELD CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR. IT WAS GOING ABOVE 30PPM, WAS GETTING HEADACHES. CAR DEALERSHIP HAD MY VEHICLE FOR A MONTH. TOOK IT ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE ODORS AND CARBON MONOXIDE HAPPENED AGAIN. THE DEALER TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THEY COULD DO. TOLD ME RUDELY TO CALL FORD THEY WON'T HELP ANYMORE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND SLOWED DOWN INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN UNKNOWN WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE MORE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTONATION FORD (ST. PETERSBURG 2525 34TH ST N, ST. PETERSBURG, FL 33713) WHERE THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE OR REPLICATE THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND MENTIONED THAT THEY WOULD CALL BACK TO INFORM THE CONTACT OF WHETHER THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY WOULD BE EXTENDED. THE CONTACT ALSO CALLED A LEMON LAW HOTLINE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE LAW DID NOT APPLY TO THE CASE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND ACCELERATING THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STALLED AND I HAD TO PULL OF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR SAFETY. I WAS ON A COUNTRY ROAD AND ABLE TO RESTART MY CAR WITHOUT ISSUE TILL 1 WEEK LATER WHEN I WAS DOWNTOWN DRIVING HOME AT 1:00AM AND I HAD TO PUSH MY CAR ONE BLOCK IN ORDER TO GET TO A SAFE PLAY AND GET A TOW. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 1 MONTH WITH FORD SAYING ITS A NUMBER OF THINGS IT ISN'T. IT IS TILL UNDER WARRANTY AND I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ECOBOOST ON THE VEHICLE. THIS IN ITS OWN COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN EVEN WORSE IF I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE (WHICH IS WHERE I WAS HEADED) THEY INITIALLY SAID IT WAS THE POWER TRAIN MODULE AND WE WAITED ON THE PART FOR 1 MONTH AND IT DIDN'T FIX ANYTHING. NOW THEY ARE STATING ITS THE TUBING FOR THE TURBO ENGINE (ECOBOOST) AND WE CONTINUE TO WAIT ON THE PART AND THE REPAIR. THIS EXPLORER HAS 34,000 AND IS A RED FORD EXPLORER ECOBOOST.
AN EXHAUST ODOR ENTERS THE CABIN AREA WHEN ACCELERATING RAPIDLY OR DRIVING UPHILL. THIS HAS OCCURRED CONTINUOUSLY SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER 2015. THE DEALER'S SOLUTION IS AIR FRESHENER IN THE CABIN AIR FILTER AT MY EXPENSE. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
WHEN UNDER HARD ACCELERATION, ESPECIALLY WITH AC ON, EXHAUST GASES ARE COMING INTO THE CAR. DEALER MECHANICS BLAME THE CAR EXHAUST FROM OTHER CARS, BUT IT HAPPENS ON OPEN ROADS WITH NO OTHER TRAFFIC. LATEST WAS ON ROAD TRIP FROM VA TO FL, ON OPEN HIGHWAY.
EXHAUST FUMES COMING INTO THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND UPON ACCELERATION. THIS IS AN ONGOING/ EVERYDAY PROBLEM
WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN ON TO A RESIDENTIAL STREET THE POWER STEERING FAILED. IT BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO KEEP FROM RUNNING UP ON THE SIDEWALK. HAD MY WIFE BEEN DRIVING SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE, MOST LIKELY RESULTING IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. STEERING SYSTEM FAILURE ALERT APPEARED ON DASH READ OUT. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, RE-STARTED, NO CHANGE. SHUT OFF A SECOND TIME, RESTARTED AND ALERT DISAPPEARED AND THE STEERING WAS FUNCTIONING. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME, CALLED FORD TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY THE NEXT DAY IN ROUTE TO THE DEALERSHIP, A HEAVY CLUNK SOUND WAS HEARD. I WENT THROUGH THE SAME MOTIONS AGAIN BUT COULD NOT REPEAT THE CLUNK NOISE. DROVE THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THEY REMOVED AND REPLACED THE STEERING GEAR WHICH IS THE ENTIRE RACK. I ASKED AN ADVISER IF THEY KNEW THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND OR IF THE NEW PART BEING INSTALLED IS THE SAME AS WHAT WAS REMOVED OR IF THERE WAS AN UPGRADED VERSION. THEY WERE UNABLE TO VERIFY ANY UPGRADES RELATING TO THE FAILURE WHICH HAS ME WORRIED SINCE MY WIFE ALSO DRIVES THE VEHICLE AND THERE IS NO ASSURANCE THAT THE FAILURE WON'T OCCUR AGAIN. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERED THE MAJORITY OF THE COSTS.I PAID A $100. DEDUCTIBLE. I AM REPORTING THIS BECAUSE I'M CONVINCED THAT IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT DUE TO OTHER YEAR AND MODEL FORDS DISPLAYING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I ALSO WANT IT DOCUMENTED IN CASE IT HAPPENS AGAIN. COPY OF REPAIR ORDER ATTACHED.
AFTER 2 YEARS OF USE THE PAINT ON THE FRONT OF THE HOOD IS BUBBLING. CLEARLY THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AS THIS IS A GARAGE CAR AND HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. ON THE ADVICE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO INDICATED THAT THIS IS NOT A UNCOMMON ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO SPEAK TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AGAIN. SO, I CALLED THE FORD CUSTOMER NUMBER AND SPOKE TO JANET WHO CONTINUED TO REPEAT THAT THEY ARE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEFECT BECAUSE IT SHOWED UP AFTER MY ALLOTTED MILEAGE FOR WARRANTY. SHE REFUSED TO ALLOW ME TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR AND SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT ME WITHIN 1 BUSINESS DAY. I AM STILL WAITING FOR THAT CALL. AFTER THE DISTURBING CALL WITH JANET, I SPOKE WITH ANTOINETTE AND SHE TOLD ME SHE WOULD SPEAK TO THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR AND GIVE ME A CALL BACK AFTER ANOTHER DAYS SHE CALLED BACK TELLING ME THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME WITH THE COST. I CAN CLEARLY SEE ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS DOES HAPPEN TO FORD EXPLORERS AND MANY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED. FORD HAS CONVENIENTLY CRAFTED THEIR CONTRACT TO EASILY EXCLUDE PAINT ISSUES DUE TO MILEAGE WHEN THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PAINT.
HAVE HAD 2015 EXPLORER IN LOCAL FORD DEALER 6 TIMES TO HAVE EXHAUST FUMES IN CABIN RESOLVED. THEY HAVE PERFORM REPAIRS TO CURRENT TSB'S. STILL HAVING EXHAUST FUMES IN CABIN AFTER NORMAL ACCELERATION. STARTING TO SMELL FUMES WHEN ENTERING CABIN AFTER REMOTE START. CURRENTLY VECHILE IN SHOP AGAIN!
MY UNIT IS SUFFERING SINCE DAY ONE FROM THE EXHAUST ISSUE, ALMOST TEXTBOOK TO THE TYPICAL DESCRIPTION IN THE NEWS; UPON ACCELERATION WITH THE A/C ON, THE EXHAUST OF THE VEHICLE GET IN PRESUMABLY THROUGH THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH ARE THEN SUCKED INTO THE A/C BY IT'S SUCTION UNITS ON THE BACK AND YOU END UP SMELLING THE EXHAUST GASES FOR A WHILE. THE ISSUE IS SPECIALLY PRESENT WHILE THE DAY IS COLD (MORNINGS AND NIGHTS), ON CLIMBS (INCLINED UPWARDS ROADS) AND SPECIFICALLY UPON ACCELERATION; IT DOESN'T HAVE TO HAVE THE A/C MAX BUTTON ON, THE ROAD TYPE HAS NO INFLUENCE AND ITS RELATIVE SPEED IS NOT A FACTOR BUT RATHER JUST ACCELERATION. I TOOK IT THREE TIMES TO THE DEALER, SPECIALLY AFTER I READ ABOUT THE ISSUE HAPPENING TO OTHER VEHICLES AND THEY SAID WITH THE MODIFICATIONS THEY DID SHOULD BE CORRECTED (EXTENSION OF THE MUFFLER, RE-SEALING THE TRUNK DOOR, OTHER PROCEDURES), BUT IT DIDN'T!. NOW I'M PAYING FOR AN EXPENSIVE CAR WHICH HAS FOULS AND PROBABLY UNHEALTHY ODORS GETTING INTO THE CAR BY ITS OWN DESIGN AND HAVE NO RECALL OR REAL SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL OR DEMAND A REAL SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM BY FORD. IF I WOULD HAVE THE TIME AND MONEY I WOULD HAVE FILED A LAWSUIT AS I FIND ALMOST A RACKET THAT YOU PAY FOR A VEHICLE WITH SUCH A BAD DESIGN FLAW AND NO REAL ACTION TO SOLVE IT FROM FORD. ALSO, IT IS NOT THE ONLY FLAW AS HAVE HAD TO REPAIR THE LINKS OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION (STILL UNDER WARRANTY) ALMOST ON EVERY OIL CHANGE VISIT, THREE TIMES ALREADY, AND THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 30K MILES. PLEASE HELP!!!!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR OF EXHAUST FUMES IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ODOR WAS MORE PREVALENT WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS IN USE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF AN EXHAUST LEAK EMITTING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A CHILD IN THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE RUSHED TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM TO SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR NAUSEA AND MIGRAINES DUE TO THE EXHAUST FUMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
PASSENGER LUMBAR SUPPORT HAS SHARP EDGE IN MECHANISM THAT POKES OUT INTO PASSENGER SEAT BACK POCKET. I CUT MY FINGER ON IT WHILE TAKING SOMETHING OUT OF THE POCKET. MY CHILD SCRAPED HER FINGER ON IT AS WELL. THE PIECE IS EASILY SHARP ENOUGH TO CAUSE A LACERATION. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE PART ONCE AND TOLD ME IT WAS A DEFECT WITH THE MECHANISM THE SECOND TIME I CUT MY FINGER. THEY PADDED IT WITH FOAM IN SIDE THE SEAT BUT IT COULD EASILY FALL OFF. VEHICLE IS STATIONARY WHEN THIS OCCURRED.
HEAVY EXHAUST SMELL COMING INTO CABIN THROUGH AC VENTS WHEN ACCELERATING VEHICLE. SMELL ENTERS CABIN WHETHER AC IS ON OR OFF. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN IN TWICE FOR ISSUE. ISSUE NOT RESOLVED.
VEHICLE EXHIBITS AN EXHAUST ODOR IN THE VEHICLE WITH THE AUXILIARY CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM ON. WHEN VEHICLE ACCELERATES OR IS DRIVEN FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL ON, AN EXHAUST ODOR OR SULFUR LIKE SMELL ENTERS THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP. THE SMELL IS SO STRONG AS IT CAUSES SEVERE HEADACHES AND EVEN NAUSEA AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE. FORD HAS RECOMMENDED A SERVICE BULLETIN TO FIX THE ISSUE BUT CAN NOT PIN POINT NOR GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL FIX THE ISSUE. FORD HAS NOT OFFERED TO PAY FOR THIS SINCE IT IS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE WITH 2011-2015 FORD EXPLORERS.
WHEN I DRIVE MY EXPLORER AND THE ENGINE REVS UP ABOVE 2800 RPM WHILE MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY, A STRONG EXHAUST ODOR COMES IN THE CAB OF MY VEHICLE. THE SMELL IS BAD ENOUGH THAT ALL MY FAMILY HAS BECOME VERY DIZZY TO THE POINT OF ALMOST PASSING OUT AND WE HAVE HAD HEADACHES IMMEDIATELY AFTER. I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND I WORRY THAT THE EXHAUST ODOR CAN HARM HER AND THE REST OF OUR FAMILY. BEFORE FILING THIS COMPLAINT I DID RESEARCH AND I FOUND THAT A POLICE OFFICER IN CALIFORNIA SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES DUE TO A CRASH THAT WAS CAUSED BY THE SAME EXHAUST SMELL ON HIS EXPLORER WHICH MADE HIM FAINT. ADDITIONALLY, THE AUSTIN POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS NOW INSTALLED CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS IN THEIR POLICE VEHICLES DUE TO A POLICE OFFICER EXPERIENCING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AFTER HIS VEHICLE HAD EXHAUST ENTER THE CABIN OF HIS EXPLORER. I BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION BECAUSE LIVES ARE AT RISK AND IT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. THIS ISSUE THAT HAS HAPPENED IN MY PERSONAL EXPLORER IS NOT RANDOM. IT HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME THAT THE ENGINE EXCEEDS 2800 RPM. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER I HAVE THE AIR CONDITIONER/HEATER ON OR NOT. I AM HONESTLY CONSIDERING STOPPING USING MY VEHICLE UNTIL THIS MATTER IS RESOLVED. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME 1,800 DOLLARS TO FIX THE ISSUE, BUT THEY ADVISED THAT IT IS NOT 100% GUARANTEED THAT THE ISSUE WOULD BE RESOLVED. I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THIS AND THEREFORE I WILL SINCERELY HOPE THAT OUR NHTSA CAN HELP US FORD EXPLORER OWNERS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

CLICKING AND POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING LEFT. NO LIGHTS OR CODES SHOWING IN THE DASH, BUT STEERING HAS A LOT OF PLAY. DEALERSHIP SEEMS NOT TO SEE A PROBLEM. JUST HAD AN O2 SENSOR REPLACED AND THE ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT TENSIONER. THIS VEHICLE IS MORE TROUBLE THAN ITS WORTH....
I PURCHASED MY 2015 EXPLORER AND AFTER A FEW MONTHS, I STARTED SMELLING STRONG GAS ODOR WHEN ACCELERATING. I TOOK IT IN, THE DEALER COMPLETED A TOTAL EXHAUST REPAIR AND NOW THE SMELL IS WORSE THAN IT WAS BEFORE. THE DEALERSHIP CONTINUES TO TELL ME THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS GETTING SICK FOR TWO MONTHS, HEADACHES,NAUSEA ETC. AFTER GOING TO THE DOCTOR, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY FROM MY VEHICLE. I CANNOT TURN THE FAN/AIR OR HEAT ON DUE TO THE SMELL SO IT IS KEPT OFF FOR MINE AND MY CHILD'S SAKE.
I WAS DRIVING STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AS I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN, LOCKED IT AS I WAS HALF WAY ON THE TURN. THIS HAPPENED ON THE 10TH OF MARCH. TODAY 3/17/17 AS I WAS REVERSING IT LOCKED AGAIN GOOD THING I WASN'T ON FREEWAY OR IN HIGH TRAFFIC AREA. I PURCHASE VEHICLE FROM HYUNDAI GILROY IN GILROY CA WHICH THEY WERENT HELP AT ALL. I JUST BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE END OF DECEMBER 16'. THEY JUST BLEW ME OFF AND I WAS TOLD I WASN'T UNDER WARRANTY NOR ANY RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE. I DID SOME RESEARCH LOOKS LIKE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK (DOING ABOUT 45MPH WITH THE HEAT ON) AND INSTANTLY NOTICED WHAT SMELLED LIKE NATURAL GAS. I ROLLED MY WINDOWS DOWN TO SEE IF IT WAS OUTSIDE AND IT WASN'T. I THEN TURNED MY HEAT OFF AND THE SMELL LIGHTENED. WHEN I GOT HOME I JUST THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS A FLUKE. THE NEXT DAY ME AND MY DAUGHTER 12YRS OLD GOT IN THE EXPLORER TO GO SHOPPING. NOT 10 MINUTES INTO OUR DRIVE (DOING 25 MPH WITH THE HEAT ON) MY DAUGHTER FRANTICALLY SAYS "I SMELL GAS." I TURNED AROUND WENT HOME. I SAT IN THE VEHICLE TO RUN A DIAGNOSTICS REPORT AND STARTED FEELING SLIGHTLY LIGHT HEADED. SO I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND TOLD MY HUSBAND. THEN I BEGAN TO HAVE A HEADACHE OUT OF NOWHERE. I THEN CONTACTED A FORD DEALER (BECAUSE OUR VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY WITH FORD) AND AS I EXPLAINED WHAT WAS GOING ON AND I MENTIONED THE ARTICLES I READ ABOUT THESE VEHICLES THE PERSON ON THE PHONE HAD NO RESPONSE OTHER THAN WHEN THEY HAD THEIR NEXT OPEN APPOINTMENT. SO I AM TAKING MY VEHICLE IN NEXT WEEK. THE NEXT DAY I STARTED MY VEHICLE WITHOUT THE HEAT ON AND THE SMELL WAS MINIMAL IN THE VEHICLE BUT WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND GOT OUT I SMELLED A VERY STRONG GAS LIKE SMELL COMING FROM THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE!

MY AIRBAG LIGHT USE TO COME ON AND STAY ON FOR A FEW WEEKS. NOT THE AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON 24/7. THE DEALERSHIP WON'T LOOK AT IT FOR FREE SINCE SUV HAS 68,000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR OVER TWO YEARS. MY 2015 ISN'T PART OF THE RECALL BUT NEEDS TO BE.
VEHICLE STARTED SMELLING OF ROTTEM EGGS OR DEAD RODENT AROUND 30,000 MILES. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN OCTOBER 2014. BROUGHT TO DEALER IN MARCH 2017 TO SEE IF THEY COULD EFFECT REPAIRS. DEALER CLEANED OUT FILTERS AND TRIED TO ISOLATE THE PROBLEM. UNABLE TO DO SO. SMELL PERSISTS WHENEVER VEHICLE IS CLOSED. SMELL IS SO PERVASIVE THAT ENTIRE GARAGE NOW SMELLS OF ROTTEN EGGS OR DEAD RODENT. RECENTLY PARKED AT AIRPORT PARKING FOR 4 DAYS. UPON RETURN SMELL IN CABIN WAS OVERPOWERING TO THE DEGREE THAT MY WIFE WAS EXTREMELY NAUSEATED. OPENING WINDOWS HELPED BUT DID NOT SOLVE PROBLEM. SMELL SEEMS TO BE COMING THROUGH VENTILATION/AC SYSTEM. AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED THAT ACTION TO REPAIR IS IS TAKING SO LONG. IN READING OTHER COMPLAINTS THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT SEEM TO BE GETTING THE NECESSARY PRIORITY THAT IT DESERVES.
A POWER STEERING WARNING CAME UP, THEN LATER THE POWER STEERING FAILED. IT LATER RETURNED. WE TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND THEY HAS TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING ANGLE SENSOR ASSEMBLY. ABOUT 6 WEEKS LATER 4-17-17 WARNING COMES ON AGAIN. TAKE IT BACK TO DEALER AND THEY NOW SAY IT IS PROBABLY POWER STEERING MOTOR WITH A COST OF $2000+. WHEN MY WIFE ORIGINALLY FELT THE LOSS OF STEERING SHE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING DOWN THE ROAD, NOT TURNING. SHE FELT IT TIGHTEN UP.

I TRAVEL AS A SALE REP, I GET A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP, BUT AT TIME FIND MYSELF FEELING SLEEPY AT TIMES ON LONG HIGHWAY TRIPS, AND AT TIMES CAN SMELL EXHAUST UPON ACCELERATION. PURCHASED MY EXPLORER USED IN FEBRUARY 2017, 2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE I NOTICED AN ODD SMELL AFTER PICKING UP SPEED TO GET ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY STATED THERE WAS A BULLETIN OUT ABOUT THE ISSUE BUT THERE WAS NO FIX FOR THE ISSUE AS IF YET BUT THERE WAS. NOTHING WAS DONE FOR ME TO TRY TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE . NOW TODAY IT'S ALL OVER THE NEWS ABOUT HE EXHAUST FUMES FROM THE VEHICLE POSSIBLY MAKING DRIVERS SICK & CAUSING DRIVERS TO PASS OUT . THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING TURNS ITSELF OFF WITHOUT WARNING. IN 30000 MILES, THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES. WE GET AN ERROR SCREEN ON THE DASH TELLING US TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. TWO TIMES I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY IN A PARKING LOT, AND THE THIRD TIME MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OVER THE SKYLINE BRIDGE IN FLORIDA. EACH TIME WE SAFELY PULLED OVER, SHUT THE CAR OFF, AND WHEN RESTARTED THE POWER STEERING RECYCLED ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER EACH TIME, AND WAS TOLD THAT NO ERROR CODES WERE IN THE COMPUTER, SO THE CAR WAS FINE. OF COURSE IT IS NOT FINE, OR IT WOULD NOT SHUT OFF THE POWER STEERING. THE CAR WAS UNDER BUMPER TO BUMPER FACTORY WARRANTY. BEING CONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY, I TRADED THE CAR IN FOR A 2017 EXPLORER HOPING THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED.
