Ford explorer didn’t recognize the vehicle coming from right side and it didn’t applied emergency brakes as well as it didn’t show any forward collision alert also.
This vehicle is used as a law enforcement vehicle. The officer was attempting to make a traffic stop on a speeding motorcycle. The officer turned around and accelerated relatively fast considering the speed and potential to not stop. When the pedal reached its maximum downward position, it just snapped off. The pedal appeared to only be connected by two small plastic rings which broke off. see the attached photos.

Upon cold start exhaust burns blue smoke. Vehicle was taken to dealership and diagnosed with a bad turbo seal, resulting in motor being removed and turbo replaced on passenger side at 2865 miles. Now a 6439 miles the drives side turbo seal is causing the same issue, blue smoke pouring out of the exhaust on cold starts. Car is driven with care and not abused in anyway. Other owners of the same version of this vehicle with two turbos are also experiencing the same issue. For both environmental and safety reasons, these engines should be recalled and inspected for this premature failure.

There is a brake cover, the black plastic/rubber overlay piece that provides traction and grip for the brake pedal. During normal driving today it just slipped off and struck my foot. This is a police car, I understand that it just "slips back on" but it I was emergency Braking or Power Braking, it would be a hell of a time for the brake peddle cover to slip off.
The sun roof/ moon roof shattered while going down the road at 70 MPH. Glass showered down on my wife as she was traveling until she could stop and get the glass cleaned up.
When using my Cruise Control the speed jumps up to 75-85 mph without my input. For example, when I set the cruise control to 55 it suddenly jumps up to 75 or 85 mph on its own. This happens when the speed signs on the road change. This past week I used my cruise control for a long trip. I was on a highway that changed the posted speed from 55 to 65 mph. The cruise control suddenly went from the posted speed of 55 mph to 85 mph. This is very concerning! It has happened several times and I can no longer use the cruise controller. I have approximately 5,000 miles on my vehicle .
I was driving (at a fairly low speed) recently when my vehicle began driving erratically. I pulled over and noticed that there was smoke in the passenger compartment. I exited the vehicle and walked to the passenger side (out of traffic) and opened the passenger door to retrieve my cell phone. At that point there was a burst of flame upon opening the door, and the fire quickly spread to the passenger compartment.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH and approaching a stop light, the vehicle failed to decelerate as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The failure mileage was 10,000.
1. My 2022 Explorer limited purchased mid Dec 2022 began having issues during shifting of gears and would stutter before jolting or would drive in the opposite direction when shifting btwn gears starting in Feb 2023. Ford would not give me an appt until may. In March I put the car in reverse in front of my child's daycare, it drove forward, hit a large vase and damaged the front end. Ford was contacted and again told me the earliest they could get me an appt was may. I recorded all events from there forward. In May my car was inspected and numerous error codes were found. One of which was a "gear shift lock solenoid/actuator circuit 'A' range/performance". They ultimately fixed the faulty shifter. But refuse to repair the front end damage to the vehicle caused by the malfunctioning shifter stating "I should have braked". There was a list of error codes they told me have been addressed but on the final invoice it also states one has not. But they have refused to provide me with a list of interpretation for the errors codes. 2. This faulty gear shift could have resulted in severe injury to myself or a bystander. When I contacted ford after the accident they continued to disregard my safety concerns and would not provide me w an early appointment to investigate these serious problems 3. See answer 1 4. No. The car functioned normally from purchase date in mid December to mid-late Feb when symptoms began without warning and occurred intermittently until the car was assessed the first week of May
The power lift gate was making a popping noise, so I took the truck to Ford for repair. They supposedly repaired the truck, but the power lift gate started opening and closing on its own and at random times. It also started to rain through the back glass, which caused mild in the truck. The warning states that the power loft gate should be completely closed or it can result in death, but it wasn’t able to close at all times. Ours safety was out at risk due to the power lift gate opening and closing at random times, which could have caused me to be hit, other drivers to be injured, and theft of property from other people having access while the power lift gate didn’t properly close. The problem was confirmed by a dealer. I showed video as well. The manufacturer has inspected the vehicle component, but they broke a panel on the driver door and tried to glue it on, so the manufacturer is dishonest. They also advised that I have a “bad car” but refuse to do anything. No it was no warnings.
While trying to reverse from drive there seems to be a 3-5 second delay before transmission engages reverse.
When accelerating the transmission has a rough engagement from 1-2 and at times from 2-3 it also downshifts hard from 3-2. At times it takes 2 seconds to engage second gear and when you hit the breaks hard it jerks you really badly. This makes it extremely through pulling into traffic with cars coming and not know how long it will take for your car shift and get up to speed.
2022 Ford Explorer bought brand new from dealership, began noticing lagging in vehicle when going from DRIVE to REVERSE. Car will stall between drive and reverse in the neutral position for a period of time longer than normal (up to 10 seconds). This occurs on a regular basis, multiple times while blocking a road or parking lot while attempting to back into a parking spot, at which time vehicle appears to be in neutral and will roll forward or backward if not holding the brake which could cause the vehicle to hit buildings, people, other cars, etc. Only one warning light came on at one time stating “Transmission Fault stuck in park” and vehicle would not move or go into another gear. Vehicle taken to a ford dealer at which time they stated they did see the fault, did an update on the computer system which seemed to stop it and if it persisted the shifter would need replaced. Within only 1-2 days after leaving the dealership the car began to regularly and recurrently have the same fault of delaying from drive to reverse. This issue does not seem to occur when going from Park to reverse. This appears to be a persistent complaint from owners specifically of 2022 Ford Explorers.
When going from Drive to Reverse, the car will delay for 30 seconds to a minute and display a white vehicle screen. It will be inoperable during this delay time, which can be dangerous given the situation and I have almost been hit twice because of this delay. I am uncomfortable driving the vehicle, as not being able to put the car immediately into reverse in any given situation is dangerous for both myself, my children and anyone else on the road. The vehicle has been into the dealership, they said no issue exist. However, after picking up the vehicle the concern still exist and now I am stuck with a vehicle that I cannot drive. No warning messages are being displayed, this is one reason why the dealership is saying there is no issue.
Pirelli Scorpion All season tires 275/45 R21. Tire completely "blew out" while driving 30 mph on a main road. There was no obvious hissing sound commonly when running over an object. There was an explosive sound and within seconds had a complete flat. The vehicle did get damaged on the inside tire well along with bumper damage/Crack.
Purge valve has now failed twice since owning the vehicle (1 year and 5 months old). First purge valve went out when the vehicle was only 4 months old (Oct 2022). Second purge valve went out at 1 year old (June/July 2022). The main concern that I am reaching out for- Drivers side headlight - a small bird flew into the headlight and cracked it. Placed a hole in the headlight, causing water to get in and stop working. There is no way that a headlight should crack from a bird flying into it.
When shifting from Drive to Reverse there is a delay ranging from 4-15 seconds before it engages. I have not been able to identify what it is that makes the delay more or less, but there is always a delay. I usually need to back into my driveway, so pulling past it and then selecting Reverse results in one bump (into Neutral) after several seconds. If the throttle is applied the engine rpm will increase with no movement of the vehicle until there is another bump when it finally engages Reverse. If I sit in place with foot on the brake and wait from the two "bumps" (Neutral and then Reverse) the Reverse bump will sometimes jolt the vehicle backwards. I purchased the vehicle with 1,900 miles on it and at present have 5000 miles on it. It has exhibited this behavior since I have had it. When going from Park into Reverse there does not seem to be a delay.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while reversing, the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
When vehicle is put into reverse, there is a 15-20 second delay before reverse kicks in. You don't know when it is reverse yet , you let go of brakes and vehicle moves forward until transmission engages. Have taken vehicle to dealer to have checked out and ford and dealer says normal delay. Very unsafe not knowing when reverse kicks in, I have rolled forward into garage when ready to back out. No warnings come on about transmission. This started as soon as i bought the vehicle.
Vehicle's steering wheel moves by it's self.
The steering wheel moves back and forth by it's self.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the steering wheel started moving independently from side to side, without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 207,000.
Rear tires when striking a pot hole create a loud noise in the rear of the vehicle on the side the tire strikes the pothole. Ford took me on a test drive on a brand new explorer hybrid with 26 miles on it and related it makes the same noise and at this time there is no fix in place.
Driver side Axel was out when I took my car in for my oil change and tire rotation. I was unaware of this issue due to this being my first oil change and tire rotation. I have called the dealership service department where I purchased the vehicle and also the dealership service who serviced my vehicle. I then called Ford Motor to report issue and was advised to contact NHTSA. The claim number [XXX]. I was informed that I would have to wait until my vehicle breakdown in order to be covered or wait for a recall through Ford. I was told I would have to pay out of pocket if I seek further service for fixing the issue without Fords recall and there is a program that will pay me back if one becomes available. I was advised by Taylor Ford that they have come across a few of these issues with the exact same problem in the 2022 Explorers. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
There has been an open safety recall on this vehicle for about 5 months with NO indication of how they are going to fix it or when. This is preventing me from running my business using the vehicle because the vehicle cannot have any recalls on it. I have called two Ford dealerships and contacted Ford help line several times and they do not have any solution.
it jerks and the gear change is felt a lot
Since "fixing" my vehicle with retrofitted 2nd row HVAC controls, the 2nd row heating is unable to be controlled from the front, which means if you have a child in a car seat who can't reach the 2nd row controls you must reach behind while driving to adjust the heat. If you try to adjust from the front controls, it shuts off the overhead vents and only blows from one 3rd row floor vent, which doesn't provide much heat for the 2nd row passengers. The AC controls work properly when controlled from the front. I've taken my vehicle to Ford several times and they tried reprogramming, etc. and compared to other vehicles of the same model year and said they are functioning the same as mine. I believe this poses a serious safety risk as who is not going to attempt to reach back to provide some heat to a cold child?
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while attempting to reverse into a parking spot, the gear shifter was moved to reverse(R) however, there was a 5-second lag before the transmission selected the intended gear. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated while receiving an oil change at the local dealer, the dealer stated that the valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the same failure. The contact took the vehicle to back the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts not being available. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.
During a 2000 mile road trip, the front passenger seatbelt was nearly cut through at the point where the seatbelt exits the tensioner above the passenger's right shoulder. The location of the cut along the length of the webbing aligns with the position of the webbing when the seatbelt was in use by the front passenger. Based upon the location and nature of the cut, it appears that some surface within the assembly was sharp enough to cut through the section of belt. There were no injuries associated with this incident. The vehicle was parked as soon as we reached our destination and no passengers are allowed to sit in the front right passenger seat until the issue is corrected. The seat belt tensioner / pre-tensioner assembly was examined by the Ford Dealership in Taber, AB, Canada on 22 DEC 2022. The dealership confirmed that the issue was a warranty repair, but they were unable to provide a replacement part in the amount of time we had left in Taber as we were still in Transit. When we reached our destination in Pierceland, SK, I ordered the replacement tensioner from / through the nearest Ford dealership (Cold Lake, AB). I have an appointment to have seatbelt assembly replaced tomorrow (27 DEC 2022) at that dealership. The seat belt tensioner assembly
While driving uphill on freeway the Ford Explorer lost all power going about 60mph. The warning of a wrench symbol came on indicating power train malfunction. Our mileage was at only 665 and after 10pm. Thankfully there was an adequate shoulder to pull off the road. It was not duplicated in the dealership. Turning off the power reset everything but now the dealership is replacing the entire transmission per Ford motor company. There was a burning smell but wasn’t positive it was coming from the Explorer or a fire nearby.
The powertrain failed together with the gearshift was shown in screen. Ther is also problem with the seat harness beacuse of wire problem. The car is available for inspection. There is huge risk in the passenger and others because there almost a lost control in the vehicle while running on the road. It is confirmed by the service center of ford. It was inspected by service center od ford. It is currently there because it is not safe to use. I bought the car as brandnew November 2022 then December in the same year it was started showing in the screen the sign of powertrain malfunction. Now January 2023 I still have the same problem and I left the car in the ford center service. It is not safe to use especially i have my 3months old baby and my wife using it.
Vehicle is as purchases brand new in august 2022. After a few months when engaging reverse, there is a lag time of 3-10 seconds. The reverse screen in dash does not engage as well. Local dealer “fixed” in February 2023 at roughly 5k miles. Issue has returned. When brought to dealer beginning of May 2023. We were informed they would not work on it as it’s a known issue with no fix. Issue is creating problems when attempting parallel parks, k-turns, parking, anything to do in the road requiring timliness and safe execution of parking. When vehicle has the lag time it is not in gear and wil roll if on an incline.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while the vehicle was stationary and idling in a pharmacy drive-thru line with the auto hold parking feature activated, the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration and drove forward driving over a median divider and crashing into a parked vehicle. The contact indicated that the auto-hold parking feature was activated but malfunctioned. During the crash, no air bags were deployed and no injuries were reported. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,500.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Explorer. The contact stated while driving at various speeds in the rain, the windshield wipers were engaged but failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the windshield wipers were not wiping water off the windshield as the rubber on the wipers was defective. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 500.

4 days after purchase car started shutting off after cranking. Sometimes it would be just once and sometimes it could be up to 4 times within the first 1-2 min of attempted driving. It would re-crank easily each time but by the time you would reach for seatbelt, it would stall. Sometimes you could put it in gear and drive a few yards and it would stall. This only happened with me in the mornings and no more through the day. It has now been with the local Ford dealership for 3 weeks. They replaced a vapor valve that they believe was stuck open within the first day of having it. When I picked it up and cranked it, it shut off again. Twice while I was at dealership so I left it again. Have not gotten back as of today which is 3 weeks now.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford Explorer. The contact stated the vehicle would not restart at a gas station with high technical security. No warning lights was illuminated. The contact was able to enter and exit and lock the vehicle, but not restart the vehicle. The contact spoke with the dealer who felt as if there was a radio frequency interrupting with the computer in the vehicle causing the vehicle to shutoff. The failure recurred an additional time. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000.
In late October, 2022, when reversing in my driveway, I hit a tree. The rear camera alert system did not notify me of the presence / closeness of the tree (lived here almost 6 years, should know of tree but heavily rely on the camera and alerts to let me know if I'm too close). On another day, my husband was in the car with me and as I was reversing - he said "your alert didn't go off, this is probably why you hit that tree." I was unaware until today (1/30) that there is an active recall on my car for this issue. I had the damage fixed in November at Gerber Collision Center in Sebastian FL (Micco Rd). The cost of the fix was $2046 out of pocket (did not claim through insurance). Rear-driver side lamp, bumper, quarter panel. Invoice for repairs is included for detail in what all needed to be fixed. Pictures are not great and are after we taped the light on.
When trying to shift from Drive to Reverse, the transmission delays going into Reverse for 3 seconds. While this is going on, the car is basically in Neutral. After three seconds it goes into gear. Does not happen when going from Park to Reverse! Dealer checked it, he says, and they didn't find anything wrong on scanning it. Explorer has hard shifts in the lower gears and today I gave it some gas to accelerate and it kept accelerating when I took my foot off the gas pedal. This has been going on for quite some time. What if I have to backup to avoid someone hitting me at a light or stopped in traffic?
Power liftgate does not close properly, resulting in the hatch automatically reopening after attempting to close. This has also resulted in the liftgate actually opening while the vehicle was in motion.
I smell exhaust/gas fumes when driving my car. It is a very intense smell. This happens several times a week.
The vehicle is not engaging properly when putting vehicle in reverse. There is major lag in time from car is put into reverse and the car actually engaging in reverse. The car will roll until reverse kicks in. This is happening intermittently, but becoming more frequent. We are taking it to dealer to see what they say. It’s been happening since July 2022 to present
Navigation System started to re route my waypoint making me go to a location that was not enter in the system. Car has been access remotly apparently by the ford pass app. my location has been disclose and my security put at risk several times. Automatic Emergency Braking will activate at any moment even when not necessary. there is a big security risk and concerns on ford pass app and ford security system is totally vulnerable. car is been inspected by the insurance company Car unsafe to drive Car was taken to ford dealership and they where unable to identify the issues. after that car was taken to a insurance location for deep inspection.
while waiting on red lights and brake pedal has applied pressure the car will still keep rolling forward. Car is new less then 30 days. Dealership confirmed andhas had my vehicle over 50 days. Dealership will not provide me a service record to date after multiple requests in writing and verbally. Car dropped off at dealership 10/24 and to date is still there 12/10. pursuing lemon.
