I OWN A 1994 FORD F-150 SUPERCAB. ORIGINAL PURCHASE DATE WAS 6/25/94. I BOUGHT IT USED ON 11/17/00. VIN # [XXX] ON SUNDAY JULY 31, 2005 I HAD DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES FROM MY MOTHER'S HOUSE BACK HOME AT ABOUT 5:00 PM . I PARKED THE TRUCK IN THE DRIVEWAY AND MADE TWO TRIPS FROM THE TRUCK TO THE HOUSE TO UNLOAD VARIOUS ITEMS. AFTER ABOUT 60 - 75 MINUTES INSIDE THE HOUSE, I WENT TO THE GARAGE AND STARTED TO TAKE THE LAWN MOWER OUTSIDE. ABOUT FIVE MINUTES PASSED WHEN I STARTED SMELLING AN "ELECTRICAL BURN" ODOR. I WORK IN CONSTRUCTION AND I KNOW THE SMELL. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED CHECKING ALL THE ELECTRICAL OUTLETS FOR A FIRE. EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT IN THE GARAGE SO I WENT UPSTAIRS AND EVERYTHING WAS OK . I WENT BACK DOWN THROUGH THE GARAGE AND OUT TO THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY TO SEE IF I SAW ANYTHING IN THE CUL-DE-SAC. EVERYTHING WAS OK, SO I WENT BACK TO DOUBLE CHECK THE GARAGE. AS I GOT TO THE OPEN GARAGE DOOR THE SMELL WAS WORSE. ALL OF A SUDDEN I SAW SMOKE COMING OFF THE HOOD OF MY TRUCK. AS I GOT CLOSER I SAW FLAMES COMING OUT OF THE GRILL. I GRABBED THE WATER HOSE AND PUT OUT THE FIRE THROUGH THE GRILL ON THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK. AFTER IT COOLED DOWN, I OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW THE BURNT WIRES AND BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. I GOT MY BROTHER-IN-LAW WHO IS A SEMI-MECHANIC TO LOOK AT IT. HE THEN INFORMED ME ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCHES ON VARIOUS FORD F-150 TRUCKS. TRUCK SITTING ON STREET, SHUT OFF, NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER HOOD. THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH ON MASTER BRAKE WAS ON FIRE. PUT OUT FIRE MINOR DAMAGE TO BRAKE RESERVOIR, TOTAL MELT DOWN OF SENSOR AND CONNECTION. NO REPLACEMENT ACTION TAKEN YET. DISCONNECTED SWITCH NOW HAVE ABS LIGHT BLINKING. *JB
MY 1994 FORD F-150 [XXX] WAS PARKED, ENGINE OFF, IN MY FATHER'S GARAGE AFTER A SHORT TRIP IN TOWN. HE WAS IN THE HOUSE ONLY TEN MINUTES OR SO, AND THE NEIGHBORS SPOTTED THE FIRE IN THE GARAGE. THE FIRE ENGULFED THE TRUCK AND GARAGE VERY QUICKLY. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAVED THE HOUSE BUT THE GARAGE WAS LOST AND THE FIRE HAD BURNED THROUGH THE SHEET ROCK AND SPREAD INTO THE ROOF OVER THE HOUSE. SMOKE DAMAGE THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE AND WATER AND FIRE DAMAGE IN THE BEDROOM ADJACENT TO THE GARAGE. THE TRUCK FIRE STARTED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND BURNED VERY HOT VERY QUICKLY. THE TRUCK HAD NO COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE AND THERE IS LITTLE CHANCE THAT THE HOUSE INSURANCE WILL PROVIDE ANY COMPENSATION FOR THE TRUCK. WE FEEL FORTUNATE THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AT NIGHT WHEN THE BEDROOM NEXT TO THE GARAGE IS OCCUPIED. AFTER BEING PARKED FOR 18 HOURS, MY 1994 FORD F-150 XLT PICKUP CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS DESTROYED. THE FIRE APPEARS TO HAVE STARTED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I NOW KNOW THAT FORD HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM IN IT'S VEHICLES AND DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I AM COMPLETELY OUT OF THE INVESTMENT OF THE TRUCK AS MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL NOT PAY FOR FIRES THAT ARE DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. IT IS SHAMEFUL THAT YOU HAVE NOT HELD THEM TO ACCOUNT FOR THE LIVES AND PROPERTY LOST. WHY DO YOU EVEN BOTHER WITH THIS. THOUSANDS OF CAR FIRES HAVE STARTED DUE TO THE FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL CUT-OFF AND YET NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. *NM
ON JULY 6,2005 MY 1994 FORD F150 TRUCK WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAD DRIVEN MY VEHICLE EARLIER THAT MORNING. WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND WAS TOLD BY A NEIGHBOR THAT MY TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER. WAS INFORMED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH OVERHEATED AND CAUSED IT TO BURN UP THE MASTER CYLINDER ALONG WITH IT. THE PAINT ON MY HOOD WAS BURNED OFF. I WAS INFORMED OF A PROBLEM WITH THIS PART CATCHING ON FIRE. MY VEHICLE IS A 1994. THE RECALL IS ON 1995. I BELIEVE THIS IS ALSO AFFECTING THE 94'S.
REQUIRED TO PURCHASE & HAVE THREE (3) CLOCK SPRING/WIRING HARNESS ASSEMBLIES THAT CONTROL (1) CRUISE CONTROL (2) HORN (3) AIRBAG (4) SHORTED OUT IGNITION KEY ASSY IN THE LAST FOUR (4) YEARS.
DT: TRUCK WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY NOT RUNNING, AND THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE TRUCK WAS PARKED FOR AT LEAST 3 HOURS. THE FIRE STARTED BY ITSELF THROUGH THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. JUST THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BURNED, THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT BEFORE ANY OTHER DAMAGE OCCURRED, AND NO REPORTED INJURIES . THE TRUCK IS STILL IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE POLICE ARRIVED, CONSUMER DID NOT KNOW IF A REPORT WAS FILED.*AK A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED (05-5-030) AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER. AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE FORD RECALL FOR THE DEACTIVATION SWITCH. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED $4000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. *NM
1994 FORD F-150 BURST INTO FLAMES AFTER BEING PARKED. WAS PARKED NEAR GARAGE,DESTROYED F-150, BURNED GARAGE,DAMAGED 2 OTHER VEHICLES,DESTROYED OTHER PERSONAL PROPERTY. WAS VERY CLOSE TO BURNING HOUSE DOWN. LUCKILY I PULLED INTO THE DRIVE SHORTLY AFTER TRUCK IGNITED.
DT: CONTACT STATES 1994 FORD F150 PICK UP TRUCK ALMOST BURNED UP. THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE ELECTRICAL WIRE FROM THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM BURNING UP.*AK *NM
DT: FORD F150 1994 , THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED. THE CONSUMER TRIED TO PUSH THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON WHILE DRIVING, THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON WOULD NOT HOLD. THIS PROBLEM JUST HAPPENED, NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS LEADING UP TO THIS. THE CONSUMER HAD A CERTIFIED MECHANIC CHECK ALL THE FUSES. HE FOUND THE FUSES WERE GOOD. HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT HE SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED FORD DEALERSHIP. CONSUMER HAS NOT TAKEN VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AT THIS TIME. THERE WERE NO OTHER KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 FORD F150 XLT. THE FIRE OCCURRED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF WHEN THE FIRE WAS FIRST NOTICED. THE FIRE ORIGINATED AT THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH ON THE FRONT FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER. THIS WAS AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. THIS WAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL MENTIONED. DEALERSHIP TOLD CONSUMER THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE. *AK *NM
EFOD TRANSMISSION - 3RD ONE CURRENTLY INSTALLED, ALONG WITH SECOND CONTROL MODULE. RADIATOR SEPARATED AT TANK SIDE JOINTS CAUSING LEAKS. IDLER AND TENSION PULLEYS FAILED. TIRES WERE ORIGINALLY FIRESTONES- TWO HIGH SPEED BLOWOUTS BEFORE IT BECAME NATIONAL NEWS. REPLACED A/C COMPRESSOR IN FIRST YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. SECOND CLOCK MECH. INSTALLED IN STEEERING WHEEL, CAUSED LOSS OF AIRBAG, HORN, CRUISE CONTROL WHEN IT WENT OUT BOTH TIMES. REPLACED U-JOINTS. FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARP EVERY 20,000 MILES. REPLACED FAILED MASS AIR SENSOR AND COOLANT TEMP. SENSOR. REPLACED CRUISE CONTROL MODULE.
DT: THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THERE WAS A SHORT IN STARTER WIRE. THE FIRE STARTED FROM THE WIRE THAT WENT INTO THE STARTER. THE CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE JUST AN HOUR AND HALF TO TWO HOURS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. *AK THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION, THEN THEY WENT OUTSIDE AND SAW FLAMES SHOOTING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. *SC
DT: THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE CONSUMER'S HOUSE AND THE OTHER CAR. ON APRIL 20, 2006 A 15 AMP FUSE WAS CHANGED. THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WOULDN'T TURN OFF. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN OVER 3 FEET IN THE LAST MONTH OF IT'S LIFE. THE KEYS WERE NOT IN THE IGNITION WHEN THE FIRE OCCURRED. *SC *JB *AK
CONSUMER VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE DAMAGING THE VEHICLE AND THE SIDING OF THE RESIDENCE. *TS *SC
SPEED WAS APPROX. 30 MPH, MAKING A BEND WHEN TRUCK WENT STRAIGHT WHICH CAUSED HEAD-ON COLLISION. UPON IMPACT AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING INJURY TO ARM, AND CHEST AREA. NOTHING DONE TO CORRECT PROBLEM DUE TO FACT THAT VEHICLE WAS TOTALED
THE TRUCK WAS PARKED OUTSIDE OF THE RESIDENCE AND TWENTY MINUTE LATER IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THEN, VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK
1994- F150 WITH 2 FUEL TANKS WHEN RUNNING ON REAR TANK, IT PUSHES FUEL INTO FRONT TANK CAUSING IT TO OVERFLOW, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS, BUT I DIDN'T GET ONE.*JB
THE SPEED CONTROL SENSOR FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL LOCATED ON THE MASTER CYLINDER CAUGHT FIRE AND MELTED A HOLE IN THE MASTER CYLINDER RESEVOIR. PUT THE FIRE OUT AND REPLACED THE COMPLETE MASTERCYLINDER. OLD PART WAS TURNED IN AS PART OF THE CORE CHARGE FOR REPLACEMENT. COST FOR REPLACEMENT WITH MASTER CYLINDER W/O SPEED CONTROL WAS $68. THAT WAS THE ONLY THING I COULD DO BECAUSE IN ORDER TO GET ONE WITH SPEED CONTROL IT HAD TO BE ORDERED.*AK
RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V017000 CONCERNING SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION. VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON THE STREET IN FRONT OF CONSUMER HOME FOR 4 HOURS OR MORE WHEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. *AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED OUTSIDE THE RESIDENCE. FOUR HOURS LATER, VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED OUT TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND TOTALED THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK
A MALFUNCTIONING CHECK VALVE WITHIN THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY CAUSES A PORTION OF THE UNUSED FUEL FROM ONE TANK TO BE RETURNED TO THE SECOND TANK. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE CAPACITY OF THE SECOND TANK CAN BE EXCEEDED, CAUSING FUEL SPILLAGE
I HAVE RECENTLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE SAME PART OF THE CRUISE CONTROL SHUTOFF SWITCH THAT HAS JUST BEEN ISSUED FOR THE 2000 F-150 PICKUP. MY TRUCK IS NOT A 2000, BUT IT IS 1994 F-150. MY CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT WORK THEN ONE DAY MY BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPED WORKIHG, SO I CHECKED THE BULBS THINKING THEY WERE BAD.I FOUND THE BULBS WERE STILL GOOD, SO I CHECKED THE FUSES.ONE OF THE FUSES WERE BAD. WHEN I REPLACED THE FUSE I WAS UNPREPARED FOR THE SMOKE THAT CAME ROLLING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF MY TRUCK. IN A PANIC, I POPPED THE HOOD OF MY TRUCK AND PULLED THE WIRES OUT OF THE SWITCH JUST IN TIME TO SEE THE SWITCH ON THE FRONT OF MY MASTER CYLINDER GLOWING RED HOT, AND THE PLASTIC MELTING IN A SMOKE CLOUD OF BRAKE FLUID. I HAVE JUST REPLACED THE PART AND AM CONCERNED OF THE PROBLEM REOCCURRING AGAIN IF THIS IS A RECALLED PART, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT I CAN DO TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.
FORD F150 TRANSMISSION. *BF AT IDLE WHEN THE GEAR WAS PLACED IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK HARD, THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD GET REALLY HOT, THE HORN WENT OUT, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE ENGINE IDLER PULLEY HAD TO BE REPLACED, THE ORIGINAL NYLON BUSHING HAD WORN OUT, THE WIPER SWITCH ONLY DISPLAYED TWO SPEEDS, THE WIPER WASHER STOPPED WORKING, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES STOPPED WORKING, THE DOME LIGHT HAD A SHORT AND THE ALTERNATOR HAD GONE BAD. *SC
THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH CAUSED THE CABLES AND HOOD TO BURN ON THE VEHICLE. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY CONSUMER.*AK
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE TIRE BLEW OUT. CONSUMER STATED THAT WAS WHEN HE KNEW THAT VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. *AK
MY WIFE WAS AT A GAS STATION FILLING UP BOTH TANKS IN THE TRUCK. WHEN SHE TRIED TO START IT, IT WOULD NOT START. THE GAS ATTENDANT CAME OUT AND RAISED THE HOOD AND GAS WAS COMING OUT OF THE OVERFLOW CANISTER. HE GOT A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND SPRAYED IT DOWN. NO FIRE BUT GAS HAD TO BE WASHED DOWN BEFORE WE COULD HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED IN. WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2 TANK VALVE WHICH WAS PUSHING GAS INTO THE FRONT TANK AND WITH NO WHERE TO GO IT CAME OUT UNDER THE HOOD IN THE OVER FLOW CANISTER. BUT WE WERE TOLD OUR VIN # WAS NOT MADE AT A CERTAIN PLANT. BUT IF THIS IS A FACTORY FAULT WHY WOULD IT HAVE TO BE MADE AT A CERTAIN PLANT. WE COULD NOT EFFORD TO FIX ON OUR OWN AND WERE TOLD TO FILL THE FRONT TANK ONLY. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY WIFE FORGETS AND FILLS BOTH TANKS AGAIN WITH OUR CHILDREN INSIDE. I THINK FORD MOTOR CO SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM.SOME HOW THIS MAKES THE TRUCK HARD TO START. I AM THE SECOND OWNER AND HAVE DRIVEN THE TRUCK SINCE IT WAS NEW. YOU CAN HEAR THE PUMP RUNING IN THE REAR TANK OF AND ON ALL THE TIME. 1994 F150 AND FORD MOTOR CO SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON CERTAIN MODELS. *NM
AT 12:37 PM ON 2/3/05, 1994 FORD F150 P/U CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED AT RESIDENCE. VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN STARTED OR DRIVEN FOR TWO DAYS. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY OF RESIDENCE. VEHICLE WAS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR, AND HAD REGULAR MAINTENCE PERFORMED ON IT. VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS AND WAS THE ONLY TRANSPORTION I HAD. THERE WAS NEVER A RECALL NOTICE MAILED TO MY HOME ADDRESS FROM FORD CONCERNING THIS MATTER.
MY ROOM MATE WAS GIVING ME A RIDE TO THE AIRPORT IN MY 1994 FORD F-150. WE GOT TWO BLOCKS, AND SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE HOOD. WE PULLED OVER TO LOOK UNDER THE HOOD AND THE CRUISE SPEED CONTROL DEVICE WAS SMOKING. THE SMOKE STOPPED WHEN THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. WE TURNED AROUND AND PARKED IT IN THE DRIVEWAY. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AGAIN, AND THERE WAS NO SMOKE. I CALLED A FRIEND TO GIVE ME A RIDE IN HER CAR. WHEN I ARRIVED IN KANSAS CITY, I CALLED MY ROOMMATE TO TELL HER I MADE IT OK. SHE TOLD ME THAT 2 HOURS AFTER I LEFT, MY TRUCK CAUGHT ON FIRE WITH FLAMES ROARING OUT 5 FEET HIGH. IT WAS JUST SITTING THERE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY! THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO COME AND PUT IT OUT. MY TRUCK IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED EXCEPT FOR THE BED. FOUR DAYS AFTER THE INCIDENT, I WAS WATCHING THE NEWS. THEY WERE DOING A REPORT ON HOW 800,000 FORD F-150'S WERE BEING RECALLED DUE TO A FAULTY CRUISE SPEED CONTROL. MY INSURANCE WILL NOT COVER THE DAMAGE. I LIVE PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK AND CANNOT GET A LOAN BECAUSE I FILED BANKRUPTCY A COUPLE YEARS AGO. THAT TRUCK WAS PAID FOR. MY JOB IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF TOWN. I REALLY NEEDED THAT TRUCK.*AK
WHILE BEING PARKED VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CAUSE WAS STILL UNDETERMINED.*AK *TC CONSUMER CONCERN ABOUT WHAT FORD COMPANY IS GOING TO DO ABOUT THE FIRE IN THESE VEHICLE. *BF
DT: THE CONTACT STATED PICKUP TRUCK WAS PLACED IN THE GARAGE, AND IN THE EARLY MORNING HE DISCOVERED THE HOUSE WAS ON FIRE ALONG WITH THE TRUCK. HE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IMMEDIATELY. THE FIRE CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR DETERMINED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION :CONTROL MODULE (PCM). THERE WERE NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VEHICLE. *AK
WHILE SHIFTING THE GEARS THE CLUTCH FAILED TO MOVE ON ITS OWN. A LOUD BANGING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE CLUTCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TO THE SOLENOID SWITCH. *AK
BRAKE LIGHT FUSE FAILURE. TROUBLE SHOOTING FOUND A SHORT AT THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH ON TOP OF THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. THIS SHORT WAS CAUSED BY THE SWITCH LEAKING BRAKE FLUID THRU IT TO THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ABOVE AND WAS STILL COOKING LONG AFTER THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF. I REPLACED THE SWITCH AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. WHEN I COMPLAINED TO THE PARTS MGR @ TEXAS MOTORS DEALERSHIP IN FT WTH, TX ABOUT THE DANGER OF THIS DISCOVERY HE LAUGHED AND REPLIED "WE SELL LOTS OF THOSE SWITCHES". THAT WAS NOVEMBER OF 2004. THE TRUCK IS A 1994 F150. THEIR FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM NOW IS TO SIMPLY BYPASS THIS SAFETY SWITCH WITH A JUMPER WIRE INLIEU OF REPLACING A POORELY DESIGNED PART WITH A BETTER DESIGHED PART AND LOOK THE OTHER WAY ON SAFETY. IS THIS WHAT WE CAN EXPECT IN THE FUTURE FROM FORD? SHOULD I SELL MY NEW SPORT TRACK BEFORE IT BURNES DOWN AND BUY ONE FROM ANOTHER MFG? I HOPE FORD WILL TREAT THIS PROBLEM BETTER THAN THEY DID THE FUEL TANKS ON THE PINTO AND CROWN VICTIRIA. I HOPE THIS IS NOT WHAT THE AMERICAN WAY HAS COME TO. THANKS. *AK
PARKED TRUCK IN DRIVEWAY, WENT INSIDE, 30 MINUTES LATER TRUCK ON FIRE. FIRE CAME FROM DRIVERS SIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT NEAR WIRING HARNESS OR MASTER CYLINDER. TRUCK WAS TOTALED.*AK

THE STEERING BOX SHAFT HAD PITTED AND THE SEAL CAME OUT WHICH CAUSED THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKED OUT OF VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER HAD A NEW SECTOR SHAFT AND SEAL INSTALLED THEN TWO YEARS LATER THE SEAL WENT OUT AGAIN. THE CONSUMER ASKED THE TECHNICIAN WHY THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN AND THE EXPLANATION HE RECEIVED WAS THAT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE DESIGN. *AK *NM
ON AUGUST 27,2004 MY VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE LAST TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN WAS BETWEEN 8PM-8:30PM. AROUND 11PM I HEARD A POPPING SOUND LOOKED OUT WINDOW OF MY HOME AND THE TRUCK WAS IN FLAMES. *NM
SPARKS AND SMOKE IGNITED FROM UNDER THE HOOD AFTER THE TRUCK HAD BEEN PARKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL PART #9F924 WHICH WAS REPLACED WITH THE UPGRADED PART BY THE DEALERSHIP. *AK
AT 2:00 A.M., ON AUGUST 3, 2004 MY 1994 F150 XLT EXTENDED CAB 4X4 STARTED ON FIRE. ALONG WITH IT I LOST MY GARAGE, A 1999 PONTIAC GRAND AM THAT WAS SITTING NEXT TO THE F150 IN THE DRIVEWAY, AND A 1995 CHEV LUMINA MINIVAN THAT WAS INSIDE THE GARAGE, PLUS NUMEROUS TOOLS, ANTIQUES, FURNITURE, TOYS, LIFE TIME MEMORABELIA ETC.. THERE WAS ONLY FIRE COVERAGE ON THE 1999 GRAND AM AND NOT ENOUGH INSURANCE TO COMPLETELY REBUILD THE GARAGE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY BROUGHT IN A FIRE SPECIALIST WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FIRE DEFINITELY STARTED AT THE TRUCK, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. THE TRUCK HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR 2 TO 4 DAYS PRIOR TO THE FIRE. *JB
FORD NOTIFIED ME OF RECALL 05S28 CONCERNING A BRAKE FLUID CONTAMINATION PROBLEM. THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTED TO THE DEACTIVATION SWITCH COULD CATCH FIRE. THE WIRE WAS CHANGED BUT THE SWITCH WAS NOT. THE SWITCH WAS WET WITH FLUID IN THE FALL AND THE WIRE WAS UNPLUGGED ON 7-07-06 THE DEALER CHANGED THE WIRE BUT NOT THE SWITCH WHICH IS LEAKING. ON 8-5-06 I UNPLUGGED THE WIRE TO CHECK FOR FLUID AND IT WAS WET. A FORD TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THAT IT WAS WET AND I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THE MATTER WAS CLOSED AS FAR AS THEY WERE CONCERNED. MY UNDERSTANDING IS IF THE SWITCH IS WET BOTH PARTS ARE TO BE CHANGED BUT FORD IS GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND. A PERSON AT CUSTOMER RELATIONS TOLD ME TO TAKE IT BACK TO VERIFY THE LEAK AND I DID. IT IS WET THE WHOLE WAY THROUGH. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THE COMPANY WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AS THEY SHOULD. IF SOMEONE CAN HELP ME OUT IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED AS FORD WON'T GIVE ME ANY SATISFACTION. *JB
MY 1994 FORD F-150 LIGHTNING SEEMS TO HAVE THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEMS REPORTED BY OTHERS IN THE COMPLAINT DATABASE ON THIS SITE. I HAVE THE INTERMITENT AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT, LOSS OF CRUISE CONTROL, AND LOSS OF HORN. I WAS NOT AWARE THAT THE AIRBAG IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL DUE TO THIS. THERE ARE MANY ENTREES WITH THE SAME BROCKEN CLOCKSPRING AT FAULT. IT WOULD SEEM THAT FORD HAS A DANGEROUS DEFECT THAT CAN COMPROMISE THE SAFETY OF ITS CUSTOMERS. I HOPE THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT FORD SOCKING EVERY OWNER WITH A $250.00 CHARGE FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. I ALSO HAVE THE BROCKEN PLASTIC DASH MOUNT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, WHICH CAUSES EXTREME DASH BOUNCING AT THE SLIGHTES BUMP. I HAVE LOOKED ON LATER MODEL TRUCKS WITH THE SAME DASH AND THE MOUNTING BRACKET IS DIFFERENT, IT WOULD SEEM FORD DIAGNOSED THIS PROBLEM BUT WILL NOT FIX IT IN PREVIOUS MODELS. I HOPE THAT THIS INFORMATION WILL BE FOLLOWED UP WITH THE MANUFACTURE AND MIGHT CAUSE SOME GOOD.*AK
MY 1994 FORD F-150 CAUGHT FIRE WHILE IT WAS PARKED AT MY PLACE OF WORK.I NOTICED THE SMOKE AND WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH IT BEFORE CAUSING MUCH DAMAGE. THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WHICH YOU PEOPLE ARE NOW INVESTIGATING. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT YOU ARE ONLY INVESTIGATING YEARS 1995 AND NEWER YET MY VEHICLE IS A 1994. YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER EXPANDING YOUR INVESTIGATION TO INCLUDE OLDER MODELS OF THE F-150.
PROBLEM RELATES TO THE BUSHING IN THE CLUTCH PEDAL LINKAGE. IT FAILS WITHOUT WARNING WHILE SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION. IT NOT ONLY ACTS AS THE LUBRICATING BUSHING IN THE LINKAGE, BUT ALSO THE KEEPER THAT HOLDS THE CLUTCH PEDAL LINKAGE TOGETHER WHERE IT JOINS THE ACTUATING ROD OF THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER. THE FIRST TIME THAT IT FAILED, AND ALL SUBSEQUENT TIMES, THE CLUTCH PEDAL DROPS TO THE FLOOR, LEAVING THE DRIVER WITH NO WAY TO SHIFT USING THE CLUTCH. IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING AND THE OPERATOR KNOWS HOW TO PERFORM A SHIFT WITHOUT THE CLUTCH PEDAL, THE VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN TO A SAFE LOCATION. OTHERWISE, ONE IS LEFT AT THE PLACE THAT IT CAME APART, WONDERING HOW TO CONNECT THE LINKAGE TOGETHER SO THAT THE VEHICLE CAN BE SHIFTED. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, A REPLACEMENT BUSHING IS REQUIRED. IT SNAPS INTO THE LOOP OF THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER ROD, WHICH THEN SNAPS ONTO THE CLUTCH PEDAL LINKAGE. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 6 TIMES DURING THE 10 YEARS THAT I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE, THE FIRST TIME AT ABOUT 3 YEARS OF AGE. THEN APPROXIMATELY EVERY 18 TO 24 MONTHS. TODAY THE BUSHING BROKE THAT I REPLACED ABOUTH 3 MONTHS AGO. I NOW ALWAYS CARRY A NEW SPARE BUSHING. I PUT IN THE SPARE BUSHING, AND AFTER ABOUT 4 SHIFTS, THE NEW BUSHING BEGAN TO FAIL. A PIECE CRACKED OFF. I HAVE THE MOST RECENTLY REPLACED BUSHING IF NEEDED FOR RESEARCH. *AK
MY WIFE PARKED THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF OUR GARAGE AT APPROXIMATELY 4 P.M. ON JUNE 3, 2004. AT 5 P.M., MY WIFE LEFT IN ANOTHER VEHICLE AND RETURNED ABOUT 5:30 P.M., AND THE TRUCK WAS SITTING IN THE SAME SPOT, UNDAMAGED. AT 6:30 P.M. A NEIGHBOR KNOCKED ON THE DOOR ASKING IF SHE KNEW THE TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. THE TRUCK HAD NOT MOVED IN THAT 2-1/2 HOUR PERIOD. *AK THE INTERIOR, THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, AND EXTERIOR ACCESSORIES WERE DESTROYED BY THE FIRE. I WAS NOT AWARE OF AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH FORD F150 TRUCKS UNTIL I RECENTLY READ A NEWSPAPER ARTICLE ABOUT A SIMILAR OCCURRANCE. THEN, ON JANUARY 8, AN ACQUAINTANCE TOLD ME ABOUT A NEWS REPORT ON A DALLAS TV STATION CONCERNING THE CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEMS WITH THE FORD F150S. I FEEL THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS AN OBLIGATION TO REPLACE MY TRUCK, AS THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND DID NOT NOTIFY ME OR ANY OTHER F150 OWNERS OF THE POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. THE FIRE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. ONLY PROBLEM NOTICED BEFORE FIRE WAS THAT IT WOULD CUT OUT SOME TIME. A MALFUNCTIONING CHECK VALVE WITHIN THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY CAUSES A PORTION OF THE UNUSED FUEL FROM ONE TANK TO BE RETURNED TO THE SECOND TANK. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE CAPACITY OF THE SECOND TANK CAN BE EXCEEDED, CAUSING FUEL SPILLAGE.*AK
