The contact owns a 1996 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds, the speedometer became inoperable. The driver was unable to accurately determine the speed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 218,000.
I am unsure of what happened. This truck was sitting in my driveway and caught fire. While on fire it kept trying to start even though no one was in it and the keys were no where near it. The fire truck was called out due to the trucks proximity to the home and the fire was put out. There has not been any insoection done on the vehicle since it is burnt to a crisp.
The contact owns a 1996 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle started to shutoff and restart independently. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic. The mechanic informed the contact that the rear tank’s fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that there was no open recall associated with the VIN for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. The contact stated there is an issue with the front fuel tank feeding fuel into the rear tank when the rear tank pump is not operational and having to switch the fuel supply over to the front tank. When the rear tank is full from the front tank feed, it spills over out of the rear tank fill spout, and runs out on the ground.
The front fuel tank is overflowing when I run the vehicle with the rear tank. The return fuel is always to the front tank causing it to overflow its a hazardous situation.
The brake fluid pressure sensor is leaking on to the electrical main computer wires its also leaking from the electrical harness coming from the brake fluid pressure sensor causing the brake tail lights to fail intermittently during vehicle operation

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 151,000.
FUEL FROM REAR TANK FILLS FRONT TANK.IT CAN OVERFLOW CAUSING A FIRE.

THE CONTACT NOTICED FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE NEAR THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. WHEN THE CONTACT OPENED THE HOOD, HE NOTICED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS, FUSE BOX, AND RELAY BOX WERE BURNED, AND THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER WAS COMPLETELY MELTED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
FUEL FLOWS OUT THE FRONT TANK WHEN USING THE REAR TANK AND THE FRONT ON IS FULL !! FOUND THIS WHEN PARKED IN MY GARAGE .
TRUCK WAS DRIVEN THEN PARKED, 15 MINUTES LATER WHILE MOWING THE GRASS, I LOOKED OVER AT THE PARKED TRUCKAND IT WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE STARTED AT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS.

OPENED REAR TANK CAP AND FUEL SPURTED OUT AND WOULD NOT STOP HAD TO PUT CAP BACK ON, I NEVER USE THIS TANK ONLY REFUEL IN THE FRONT TANK. *TR
ABOUT THREE MINUTES AFTER I PARKED AND SHUT OFF THE TRUCK IN THE DRIVEWAY, I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION, STEPPED OUTSIDE AND SAW FLAMES SHOOTING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD ACCOMPANIED BY BILLOWING SMOKE. THE FIRE LASTED 15-20 MINUTES, WENT THROUGH THE FIREWALL, ENTERED AND MELTED DOWN THE CAB. DURING THIS PERIOD OF TIME, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PUT OUT THE FIRE IN ORDER TO PREVENT IT FROM SPREADING TO THE GARAGE AND THE PROPANE TANK. AS A RESULT, I HAD TO BE TREATED FOR MODERATE SMOKE INHALATION BY THE FIRST RESPONDERS ON THE SCENE. THE TRUCK WAS PART OF THE 2005 RECALL CONCERNING THE LEAKING BRAKE FLUID AND ITS CORROSION OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. I BROUGHT THIS TRUCK TO COPPER COUNTRY FORD IN ORDER FOR THEM TO PERFORM THE NECESSARY REPAIRS TO COMPLY WITH THE RECALL NOTICE, WHICH, TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, WAS PERFORMED. *TR
I HAVE TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO REPLACE MY DOOR HANDLES FROM THE INSIDE OF MY TRUCK. THEY KEEP BREAKING, AND NOW I AM DRIVING A TRUCK THAT I CAN ONLY OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE AFTER ROLLING MY WINDOWS DOWN. I HAVE TALKED TO FORD ABOUT THIS DEFECT, WHICH I CONSIDER A HIGH SAFETY ISSUE IN AN EMERGENCY. THEY SAY THEY HAVE A BETTER DESIGN BUT WILL COST ME $250 EACH TO REPLACE. I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM SO WHY ISN'T IT SOMETHING THAT FORD SHOULD REPLACE FREE? MEANWHILE.. I CAN'T AFFORD $500 FOR TWO DOOR HANDLES, PLUS LABOR, ONTOP OF THE COST OF THE ONES I HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT, AND TRIED REPLACING MYSELF. *TR

The contact stated that while parked in the driveway, she observed fire between the finder and the hood. The heat from the fire rippled the front of the garage causing property damage. The vehicle was not diagnosed and the origin of the fire was not determined. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. The vehicle was towed to an unknown impound lot. It was unknown if a police report or fire department report was filed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1996 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 58 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL AND COASTED ONTO THE ROAD SHOULDER. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE FAILED. THE CONTACT CLEANED THE THROTTLE AREA AND DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 195,000.
I HAD TROUBLE TURNING THE IGNITION SWITCH WITH THE ORIGINAL KEY,WHEN THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AFTER MAYBE 2 YEARS SOMETHING BROKE IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO FLOP AROUND AND A FEW YEARS AFTER THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BROKE OFF OF THE STEERING COLUMN.

AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL FROM THE REAR FUEL TANK WAS SPILLING INTO THE FRONT FUEL TANK, CAUSING IT TO OVERFLOW AND LEAK. GASOLINE IS LEAKING OUT OF THE FRONT FUEL CAP OF MY 1996 FORD F-150 TRUCK. MY TRUCK HAS DUAL TANKS. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT COULD CAUSE A FIRE OR EXPLOSION. MY RESEARCH ONLINE FOUND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 91V146000. THIS IS THE PROBLEM MY TRUCK IS HAVING BUT IT IS NOT CURRENTLY COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL. I AM WRITING THIS SUNDAY EVENING SO I AM WAITING TILL MORNING TO CONTACT FORD AND REPORT THIS PROBLEM TO THEM. THE RECALL THAT I FOUND CALLED FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE DUAL FUEL TANK SELECTOR VALVE ON 1989 FORD F-150'S. BUT SINCE I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME DEFECT AND THE EFFECT OF SUCH AN EQUIPMENT FAILURE IS LIFE THREATENING I BELIEVE THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL FORD VEHICLES THAT HAVE DUAL FUEL TANKS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1996 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH THE FUEL TANK DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. APPROXIMATELY 3 GALLONS OF FUEL SPILLED OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HIM THAT BOTH STRAPS WERE SEVERELY COVERED WITH RUST AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE FUEL TANK. BOTH STRAPS AND THE FUEL TANK WERE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED REGARDING THE FAILURE AND STATED HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 122,700.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1996 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT FUEL TANK STRAP WAS CORRODED AND CAUSED A LEAK IN THE FUEL TANK. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED THE STRAP BUT DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE WITH THE FUEL LEAK. THE CONTACT THEN SWITCHED TO USING THE REAR FUEL TANK, IN WHICH HE SOON DISCOVERED THAT THE THERE WAS ALSO A LEAK COMING FROM THE REAR TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACT WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT PROCEEDED TO FILE A CLAIM WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WAS CRACKED AND CORRODED. A BRAND NEW WHEEL WAS INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 238,357.

THE FRONT FUEL TANK HAD APPROXIMATELY A HALF TANK OF FUEL IN IT AT THE TIME. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL WAS LEAKING IN THE FRONT FUEL TANK. THE FUEL WAS OVERFLOWING FROM THE BACK TO THE FRONT FUEL TANK CAUSING A LEAK AND A FUEL ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR TO BE REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT SOMEONE WOULD RETURN HIS CALL BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE FRONT FUEL PUMP CHECK VALVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,553.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1996 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING, CRASHING INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS DID DEPLOY. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER SUFFERED SEVERE INJURIES. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED CERVICAL SPINE, INJURIES TO THE SHOULDERS, A CONCUSSION AND THE LOSS OF HER RIGHT EYE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT AN INVESTIGATOR WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE AIR BAG HAD VIOLENTLY DEPLOYED DURING THE CRASH AND CAUSED INJURIES TO THE CONTACT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1996 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED VIOLENTLY, FRACTURING THE DRIVER'S NECK AND CAUSING PARTICLES FROM THE BAG TO BECOME LODGED IN HIS EYE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS PERMANENTLY BLIND. THE AIR BAG ALSO SHATTERED THE DRIVER'S SHOULDER AND CAUSED VARIOUS OTHER INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN INSPECTOR TO DIAGNOSIS THE FAILURE BUT NO REPORT WAS PROVIDED TO THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. I OWN A 1996 FORD F150 WITH DUAL TANKS. I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE BACK FUEL TANK TRANSFERRING GAS TO THE FRONT TANK. IF UNNOTICED THIS WILL CAUSE GAS TO OVERFLOW ONTO THE GROUND CAUSING A REAL SAFETY AND POLLUTION HAZARD. I CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WASN'T ANY RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM ON MY VIN. WELL EVEN IF THERE ISN'T A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM OR NOT IT IS STILL A PROBLEM AND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM ON THE 1990 TP 1993 F150 SO I'M FIGURING THAT THEY STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM ON MY VEHICLE ALSO. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF THE EXPLOSION AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
1996 FORD F-150 TRUCK BURST INTO FLAMES WHILE IT WAS TURNED OFF AND WAS SITTING FOR 5 DAYS. FIRE INSPECTOR DETERMINED THE ORIGIN OF FIRE WAS AT THE MASTER SOLENOID OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH HAD STOPPED WORKING ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE EVENT, RESTS ON THE MASTER BRAKE SOLENOID.. THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS BEEN RECALLED ON THIS VEHICLE. THE OWNER HAD NOT RECEIVED A RECALL FROM THE FORD COMPANY. THE TRUCK IS A TOTAL LOSS WITH BOTH ENGINE AND CAB COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE HOUSE THAT WAS APPROX. FIVE FEET AWAY WAS DAMAGED. *TR
WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM THE STORE AND THE SPARK PLUG IN MY 1996 FORD 150 BLEW OUT, DAMAGED THE COIL AND SRTIPED OUT SPARK PLUG THREADS ON THE HEAD. FORD SAYS NO RECALL IN PROCESS OF TRYNG TO GET IT FIXED I UNDERSATAND THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN..
BOUGHT A SET OF TIRES. AT 17,160 MILES HAD A BLOW. TOOK BACK TO DEALER HAD TO BUY A NEW TIRE. AT 19,000 MILES HAD ANOTHER TIRE SEPARATED. HAD TO BUY ANEW TIRE. AT 20,000 MILES HAD TIRE BLOW OUT. HAD TO BUY A NEW TIRE. AT 26,000 HAD ANOTHER BLOW OUT AT 65MPH. DID NOT WRECK. BUT WENT TO DITCH . DEALER REFUSES TO DO ANY THING ABOUT THIS. WHAT CAN I DO. *TR
A MALFUNCTIONING CHECK VALVE WITHIN THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY CAUSES A PORTION OF THE UNUSED FUEL FROM ONE TANK TO BE RETURNED TO THE SECOND TANK. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE CAPACITY OF THE SECOND TANK CAN BE EXCEEDED, CAUSING FUEL SPILLAGE. *KB

THERE WERE NO INJURIES. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE ABS LIGHT FUSE WAS REPLACED CONTINUOSLY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 140000.
ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO, KELLY FORD IN EMMAUS, PA REMOVED MY DRIVERS AIRBAG AND TOLD ME IT WOULD BE REPLACED. IT WAS NEVER REPLACED. KELLY SOLD THE DEALERSHIP AND I NEVER HEARD ANOTHER THING ABOUT IT.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1996 FORD F-150. WHENEVER THE CONTACT WOULD ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD TURN OFF AND FAIL TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE SECOND FUEL TANK WAS TRANSFERRING FUEL TO THE FIRST FUEL TANK. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE FAILURES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 104,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1996 FORD F150. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH MICHELIN TIRES, AND THE TIRE SIZE WAS P235/75/15(NA). WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE EXPLODED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH CAUTION. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH THE SPARE TIRE. A FIRE OCCURRED UNDER THE HOOD OF OUR 1996 FORD F-150, DESTROYING THE WHOLE FRONT END AND INTO THE CAB. TRUCK IS A TOTAL LOSS. NO ONE WAS HURT, AND IT WAS PARKED ON MY JOB PARKING LOT, AWAY FROM ANY CLOSE VEHICLES. I HAD JUST DRIVEN TO WORK. I ARRIVED TO WORK AS A SECURITY OFFICER AT 11:20P.M. AND AT 12:50A.M. THE TRUCK WAS IN FLAMES. WE BOUGHT IT USED IN MARCH 2008 AND HAD NEVER HEARD OF ANY RECALLS OR ANY DEFECTS. IT WAS A VERY CLEAN, WELL KEPT TRUCK. IT GAVE NO WARNING SIGNS TO LOOK FOR AND STATED IF WE COULD NOT GET IT IN RIGHT AWAY TO PARK IT AWAY FROM ANY DWELLINGS. MY HUSBAND IS DISABLED, HE COULDN'T JUST RUN DOWN THERE, AND IT WAS THE HOLIDAYS AS WELL. I LOOKED UP THE RECALL ONLINE AFTER THE FIRE, AND IT STATED THE POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE WAS SMALL, AND IT GAVE WARNING SIGNS TO LOOK FOR ON THE VEHICLE. WHY WEREN'T THOSE WARNINGS EXPLAINED IN THE RECALL NOTICE?? TO OUR KNOWLEDGE, THE TRUCK WAS 12 YEARS OLD AND RAN LIKE A NEW ONE. HOW COULD IT HAVE BEEN OVER-LOOKED ALL THOSE YEARS? REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE FROM A FORD DEALERSHIP. CALLED LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND WAS ASSURED PARTS AVAILABLE. UPON ARRIVAL AT THE DEALERSHIP, NOT ALL PARTS AVAILABLE AS DEMAND HAD BEEN SO GREAT THEY KEPT RUNNING OUT OF THE PARTS. I HAD TO GO TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP TO OBTAIN THE REST OF THE PARTS. THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE OF SIGNIFICANTLY HEAVIER BUILD THAN ORIGINAL PARTS. HAVE SINCE BEEN INFORMED BY MY MECHANIC AND OTHERS THAT MID 90S FORD 150S AND EXPLORERS ARE LOSING THE BRACKETS EN MASSE. I CONSIDER THIS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE AS AN IMPORTANT CHASIS COMPONENT IS MORE THAN LIKELY TO FAIL. THESE OLDER TRUCKS ARE NOW BEING HANDED DOWN TO HIGH SCHOOL KIDS. A FAILURE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WILL SURELY LEAD TO INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS PANICKING AND OVER CORRECTING AT THE TIME OF FAILURE. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, BUT BASED ON THE DEMAND AT A SINGLE DEALERSHIP (I WAS TOLD AT THE PARTS DEPARTMENT THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED 12 REQUEST FOR THE VERY SAME PART IN ONE DAY. ALL REQUESTS WERE FOR EITHER 1996 F150S OR 1996 EXPLORERS). I CONSIDER THAT STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT AND WISHED TO BRING IT TO YOUR ATTENTION. THANK YOU. *TR
