CYLINDER #2 PISTON OF 97 F150 TRUCK BLEW A SPARK PLUG OUT OF ALUMINIUM HEAD. THIS HAS APPARENTLY BEEN A PROBLEM OF FORD VEH. NOW ON 2004 FORD TRUCKS THEY USE CAST IRON HEADS. I REPAIRED MY TRUCK MYSELF WITH A HELI COIL BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FORDS RESPONSIBILITY. PLEASE PUT THIS IN THE PILE OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE........ WHILE DRIVING, CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD BANG FOLLOWED BY THE FRONT RIGHT END OF THE VEHICLE FALLING DIRECTLY ONTO THE WHEEL WALL. THE RIGHT FRONT TORSION BAR BROKE IN HALF DISLODGING A PIECE OF METAL THAT HAD RUSTED THROUGH. *SLC

DASHLIGHTS GO OUT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT EVER SINCE THIS VEHICLE WAS NEW. HEADLIDHTS HAVE GONE OUT TWICE WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALER SAID HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM UNTIL I COULD BRING IT IN WITH THE LIGHTS OUT. WELL THEY DON'T WORK AT ALL NOW! I USE A FLASHLIGH TO CHECK MY SPEED AND GAUGES AT NIGHT. I FIRST DISCOVERED THE LEAKING REAR WINDOW A YEAR AGO( THE TRUCK WAS LESS THAN 2 YRS OLD) WITH 53000 MILES AND HAD IT REPAIRED AT THE DEALER FOR 180.00 IT IS UNKNOWN HOW LONG IT WAS LIKE THAT BECAUSE IT WAS A PASSENGER IN THE BACK SEAT THAT NOTICED IT WAS LEAKING AFTER A HEAVY RAIN. THIS NEW LEAK WAS DISCOVERED YESTERDAY BY ME AFTER A CAR WASH AND IT WAS IN THE SAME LOCATION AS THE FIRST ONE. THE TRUCK IS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD AND HAS 84150 MILES. I WILL REPORT THIS TO THE DEALER TOMORROW 12/12/2000. THE CRACK IN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR SHEET METAL WAS DISCOVERED AFTER READING ABOUT THE PROBLEM ON A WEB SITE 12/11/2000 (WWW.FORD-TRUCKS.COM) IT WAS LISTED AS A COMMON PROBLEM ON 97, 98,99,2000 F150S. WHEN I CHECKED I DISCOVERED THE CRACK WITH A LITTLE RUST ON IT A COUPLE INCHES UP FROM THE BOTTOM WINDOW MOLDING.

I HAVE SPENT OVER $1,000 ON MISS-FIRE PROBLEMS IN 1.5 YEARS AND IT WAS FINALLY FOUND THAT ONE OF THE CYLINDER HEADS HAD A FACTORY DEFECT THAT CAUSED A COOLANT LEAK. EVEN THOUGH THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, I HAVE A HARD TIME PAYING $2,000 TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT EXISTED THE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS MADE. *AK

DROVE HOME ON THE EVENING OF 11/17/2000 AND PARKED THE TRUCK. GOT IN THE TRUCK ON THE MORNING OF 11/20/2000 AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN. I HAD THE BATTERY CHECKED OUT - IT WAS GOOD. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP (NON-DEALER) AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE HAD LOCKED UP. THE TRUCK IN CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED.*AK

WHILE DRIVING THE CONSUMER SUDDENLY SMELLED SMOKE AND THEN SAW SMOKE INSIDE THE CAB, IN SECONDS THE SMOKE WAS BLINDING AND SUFFOCATING AS THE CONSUMER PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER, THE FIRE QUICKLY APPEARED INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND WITHIN 10 MIN THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY ENGULFED, AFTER THE FIRE THE CONSUMER LEARNED OF RECALL 98V-161 BUT THE DEALER DENIED RECALL DUE TO VIN. WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY F-150 TRUCK ON HIGHWAY S-22, WEST OF BORREGO SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, THE TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE. I PULLED OVER TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD AND GOT OUT. A TOW TRUCK DRIVER WHO WAS DRIVING BEHIND ME PUT OUT FLAMES IN THE CAB WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THEN THE CAB BURSED INTO FLAMES AND HE PULLED ME AWAY FROM THE TRUCK AND CALLED THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT ON HIS RADIO. THOUGH THE TRUCK WAS TURNED OFF THE FIRE CONTINUED AND ENVELOPED THE TRUCK IN FLAMES, DESPITE THE WATER PUMPED ONTO IT FROM THE FIRE TRUCK. I LEARNED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR F-150 TRUCKS FOR A DEFECTIVE FUEL LINE THAT COULD (NO DOUBT HAS) CAUSE FIRES. FORD MOTOR COMPANY CLAIMED THAT THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE MY TRUCK BECAUSE IT WAS MADE IN WAYNE AND ONLY F-150'S BUILT IN NORFOLK AND KANSAS CITY WERE INVOLVED. YET MY TRUCK BURNED TO A SHELL. IT SEEMS OBVIOUS THAT THE FIRE WAS SUCKING FUEL FROM THE TANK EVEN THOUGH I HAD SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, OBVIOUS THAT THE LEAKING FUEL HAD IGNITED UNDER THE HOOD AND THE FIRE GOT WELL-ADVANCED BEFORE I WAS EVEN AWARE OF IT AND WAS TOO BIG TO BE PUT OUT BY A HAND-HELD EXTINGUISHER. FORD HAS DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DISASTER TO ME. THEY CLAME THE CASE IS CLOSED. I REOPENED MY CASE AGAINST FORD IN DECEMBER, 2003 BECAUSE I LEARNED OF COMPUTER WEBSITES DEDICATED TO ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY DEFECTS IN MANUFACTURE OF VEHICLES. *AK
DURING INSPECTION A BROKEN COIL SPRING WAS REPAIRED, THE LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE LOOSE AND WERE REPLACED. *SLC
THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN JUNE, 1997. BEGINNING IN NOVEMBER, 2000 I HAVE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS PROBLEMS, MAINLY WITH THE ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN OUT OF MY POSSESSION FOR ALMOST 3 MONTHS NOW AND I AM OUT OF POCKET OVER $3,000 IN REPAIR WORK. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD MOTOR CO. BOTH IN WRITING AND CALLING THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND THEY HAVE OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE AND BASICALLY HAVE TOLD ME THE PROBLEMS ARE NOT THEIR CONCERN. I HAVE HAD A FRONT TIMING COVER GASKET REPLACED, MAJOR ENGINE REPAIR WORK, SPARK PLUGS CHANGED, ELECTRICAL WIRES REPLACED, AND NOW A "COMPUTER BRAIN" WAS BAD IN THE VEHICLE. THE TRUCK'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON AND THE TRUCK STILL HESITATES, STALLS AND LURCHES WHILE DRIVING, WHICH IS NOT SAFE. I HAVE NO WHERE TO TURN AND OBVIOUSLY NO MONEY LEFT TO PUT IN TO THIS VEHICLE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A 3 YEAR OLD TRUCK, PURCHASED BRAND NEW CAN HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS, I CAN'T SEEM TO GET AN ANSWER FROM ANYBODY, INCLUDING FORD. *AK

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES WOULD SQUEAK AND THE VEHICLE WOULD EXPERIENCE AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE WHEN THEY WERE APPLIED AT LOW SPEEDS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE CONTACT REPLACED ALL OF THE BRAKE COMPONENTS, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
AFTER HEAVY SNOWS THE SHIFT LINKAGE IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON A 5.4L 4X4 WILL BECOME PLUGGED WITH SNOW. WHEN PLUGGED THE SHIFT SELECTOR CAN ONLY BE SHIFTED BACK INTO NEUTRAL AND NOT REVERSE OR PARK.*AK
STEERING COLUMN BROKE WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, CONSUMEDR LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE WHICH RAN INTO A DIRT BANK. CONTACTED DEALER WHO WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 26 MPH ON A DIRT ROAD, A DEER RAN OUT OF THE WOODS, HE HIT HIS BRAKES AND HEARD A POPPING SOUND AND HAD NO CONTROL OF THE TRUCK, ALSO THE STEERING WAS NOT RESPONDING WITH THE TURN OF THE WHEEL. TRANSMISSION FALLS OUT OF GEAR INTO NEUTRAL AT 35 MPH ALTHO SELECTOR IS IN "D". *AK
TRUCK WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY PLACE OF BUSINESS FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS, THEN CAUGHT ON FIRE. IT APPEARED THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD. IT MELTED EVERYTHING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. THE PLASTIC BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR MELTED ADDING BRAKE FLUID TO THE FIRE. THE SHORT CAUSED THE BATTERY TO GET SO HOT THAT THE PLASTIC CASING MELTED. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO WORK.
