DOOR IS CRACKING. CRACK STARTED AT THE BASE OF THE DRIVER'S WINDOW, REAR SIDE. *AK
ABS LIGHT STAYS ON, EVER SINCE WIRING REPLACEMENT, HOWEVER DURING A ROAD TRIP IN DEC 2000 LIGHTS WENT OUT. *JB
TIRES HAVE CRACKS AT THE BASE OF THE TREADS, WHERE THE TREADS ARE CONNECTED TO THE TIRE.*AK (DOT NUMBER: W208 TIRESIZE: P235 70R16)
THIS IS THE 3RD ORIGINAL TIRE WHICH HAS LOST IT'S TREAD; THE 1ST TWO IN FEBUARY OF THIS YEAR (SEE PREVIOUS REPORT TO NHTSA). THIS TRIP WAS IN 108 DEGREE TEMPERATURES TRAVELING FROM AUSTIN, TEXAS TO DALLAS, TEXAS. I HAVE BEEN VERY DELIGENT TO CHECK THE PRESSURE IN MY TIRES ONCE A WEEK DUE TO MY TRAVELS TO CONSTRUCTION SITES. MY 4 YEAR OLD SON WAS TRAVELING WITH ME ON THIS TRIP AS HIS LAST SUMMER ROADTRIP BEFORE SCHOOL. LOSING THE TREAD THIS TIME SCARED ME MORE WITH MY SON RIDING SHOTGUN. THESE TIRES ARE STILL NOT ON THE REPLACEMENT LISTS. THE FORD DEALER BLEW ME OFF BECAUSE HE COULD DO NOTHING BECAUSE THE TIRES ARE NOT ON THE RECALL LIST, AND HE SAID HE COULD NOT GET TIRES ANYWAY. THE FIRESTONE DEALER WAS ALSO AS HELPFUL, DOING NOTHING. PLEASE DO SOMETHING FOR OUR KIDS FUTURES, LIKE PUT SOME SAFE TIRES UNDER THEIR PARENTS CARS AND NAIL FIRESTONE FOR THEIR SHODDY WORKMANSHIP.( DOT NUMBER: W 208 IPT TIRE SIZE: P235/70R16 )
THE ORIGINAL REAR SLIDING GLASS WINDOW LEAKED AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY (LESS THAN 36000 MI.). THE REPLACEMENT WINDOW EVENTUALLY LEAKED TOO, SO IT WAS DEFECTIVE ALSO. THE FRONT BRAKE PADS WORE OUT AND SCORED THE ROTORS. THE REPAIR SHOP INDICATED THAT THEY COULD NOT TURN/REPAIR THE ROTORS BECAUSE THEY WERE UNDER SPECIFICATION. FURTHER INVESTIGATION INDICATED THAT THE REPLACEMENT ROTORS FOR THIS VEHICLE HAVE A DIFFERENT THICKNESS SPECIFICATION. THE ORIGINAL ROTORS ARE EITHER NOT THE CORRECT THICKNESS OR HAVE AN INCORRECT SPECIFICATION. THE BRAKES HAVE NEVER SEEMED TO PERFORM PROPERLY. BRAKES MUST BE APPLIED VERY HARD AND EVEN THEN THE VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP VERY QUICKLY.*AK
THIS PICKUP TRUCK DOES NOT BRAKE PROPERLY. THE BRAKE PEDAL MUST BE DEPRESSED VERY HARD AND EVEN THEN, THE BRAKING TIME AND DISTANCE IS VERY POOR. THIS PROBLEM IS EVEN WORSE AND MORE DANGEROUS WHEN HAULING A BOAT OR OTHER TRAILOR. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS I HAVE ALMOST HIT SOMEONE AND HAVE RAN THROUGH STOP SIGNS BECAUSE OF THE POOR BRAKING. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WORK AT ALL. I RECENTLY HAD MY BRAKE PADS REPLACED AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT HE HAS SEEN SIMILAR PROBLEMS, HOWEVER, WHEN THE ROTORS ARE REPLACED THE BRAKING IS MUCH BETTER. THE SPECS. ON THE ORIGINAL ROTORS ARE DIFFERENT THAN THE REPLACEMENTS. I BELIEVE THAT THE ORIGINAL ROTORS ARE NOT THE CORRECT THICKNESS AND THEREFORE THE BRAKING IS VERY POOR. I HAVE TO BELIEVE THAT FORD F150S WITH THESE BRAKING PROBLEMS ARE GETTING INTO ACCIDENTS, SOME RESULTING IN INJURY AND DEATH. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE NOW. I DON'T TRUST THAT FORD WOULD VOLUNTEER THIS INFORMATION AND HAVE A VOLUNTARY RECALL. PLEASE ADVISE. *AK

THE TIRE HAS APPROXIMATLY 10 INCHES OF VISABLE TREAD SEPERATION, THIS WAS NOTICED WHEN I REPLACED THE WHEELS AND TIRES WITH NEW ONES. THE TIRE IN QUESTION IS NO WHERE NEAR THE WEAR BARS BUILT INTO THE TIRE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANY PROBLEM WITH THESE TIRES BECAUSE I REPLACED THE OLD TIRES WITH THE SAME BRAND AND MAKE OF TIRE. ARE YOU WONDERING WHY I REPLACED TIRES I THOUGHT WERE GOOD? I ORDERED WHEELS FROM TIRERACK.COM AND THEY HAD THE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS HT 235/70R 16 ON SALE FOR $60.00 A TIRE WITH FREE MOUNTING AND BALANCING ON THE WHEELS I BOUGHT FROM THEM. WHILE DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY WITH A/C ON AND BLOWER MOTOR STOPPED WORKING, CABIN WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE FROM DASHBOARD. CONSUMER HIT BRAKES AND FRONT TIRE TREAD CAME OFF.CONSUMER SPUN OUT ON FREEWAY, TOOK TO DEALER, AND THATS WERE IT IS NOW. CONTINENTAL GENERAL AMER 550 RADIAL, SIZE 23570R6 TIRES. *AK
PE00 020 ; CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND HEARD A HITTING NOISE. SHE LOOKED THOUGH SIDEVIEW MIRROR , AND SHE SAW TIRE TREAD FLYING IN THE WIND. SHE WAS ABLE TO CONTROL VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER TO A PARKING LOT. REAR TIRE TREAD HAD SEPARATED, AND TIRE WAS STILL DEFLATED. TIRE WAS A FIRESTONE WILDERNESS. 16INCHES.*AK

THERE IS A CRACK IN THE FRAME FROM THE AXLE BUMPER HOLE AND IT GOES HALFWAY UP THE FRAME. NLM
MOTOR WAS INPROPERLY INSTALLED FROM FACTORY, PER FORD DEALERSHIP, CAUSING DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. DEALER HAS REPAIRED VEHICLE.*AK
I WAS EXPERIENCING MY VEHICLE PULLING TO THE RIGHT SO I SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 65 MPH. I THEN HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND FELT MY TRUCK JUMP. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I SAW THAT MY TREAD WAS COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THE CROWN OF THE TIRE. THE TREAD COMING OFF CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. I AM WAITING TO HEAR FROM GENERAL ABOUT FIXING MY TRUCK. THE TREAD ON THE TIRE IS SEPARATING FROM THE REMAINDER OF THE TIRE. A FIRESTONE DEALER HAS INSPECTED ALL 4 TIRES AND ADVISED ME OF THIS CONDITION. HE ALSO POINTED OUT THAT THE METAL BANDS ARE SHOWING THOUGH IN SEVERAL AREAS WHERE THE TREAD JOINS THE SIDEWALL. HE ALSO POINTED OUT KNOTS IN THE TIRES. THEY ARE SCHEDULED FOR REPLACEMENT NEXT WEDNESDAY WITH A 60% MILEAGE ADJUSTMENT. I WAS ADVISED MY PARTICULAR TIRES WERE NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. IT IS MY OPINION MY TIRE FAILURE IS THE SAME FAILURE THAT IS BEING EXPERIENCED WITH THE 15" TIRE AND THIS PARTICULAR SIZE SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AS WELL.( DOT NUMBER: W2081PT276 TIRE SIZE: P235/70R16 )
FOR THE 3RD TIME IN THE LAST 10 MONTHS I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE FACTORY RIMS ON MY TRUCK. THE PROBLEM IS A HAIR-LINE CRACK ON THE INSIDE OF THE RIM THAT CAUSES LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE. ON THE FIRST OCCASSION FORD REPLACED THE WHEEL AT NO CHARGE BECAUSE OF THE 3 YR 36000 MILE FACTORY WARRANTY . ON THE SECOND OCCASSION THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE WHEEL BECAUSE 36 MONTH WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED . AS OF TODAY MY TRUCK IS IN THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR THE THIRD TIME WITH THE SAME PROBLEM . THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT WANTS TO CHARGE ME $247 FOR A NEW REPLACEMENT RIM, THEY DO NOT SEEM TO CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ONGOING PROBLEM. ON THE NHTSA WEB SITE I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THE 97 FORD F150 CONCERNING THE SAME SYMPTOMS OF "LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE ON A DAILY BASIS ". I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THIS IS NOT CAUSED BY FIRESTONE TIRES IT IS A DEFECT IN THE FORD FACTORY RIMS. PLEASE HELP!
DRIVING AT 50 MPH, TIRE TREAD BEGAN TO RIP OFF THE TIRE. TIRE IS DISTROYED. NO ACCIDENT BECAUSE I DIDN'T PUT ON MY BRAKES. IF I HAD, I WOULD HAVE ROLLED OVER. TRIED TO HAVE THE TIRES REPLACED. I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, HORSE TRAILER ATTACHED TO THE TRUCK WHEN THE TIE ROD BROKE. IS THIS A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING? WHY WOULD FORD MANUFACTURING MAKE PARTS SUCH AS TIE RODS NON GREASABLE, THUS BREAKABLE. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ONE MINUTE LATER.
FIRST NOTICED THAT THE TRUCK WAS HESITATING AND COULD NOT ACCELERATE EASILY. TOOK TO A FRIEND OF OURS WHO OPENED UP A NEW AUTO SHOP AND HE CHANGED THE OIL AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS CONTAMINATED WITH COOLANT. HE THEN PULLED UP TSB FROM THE INTERNET REGARDING ENGINE CONTAMINATION, ARTICLE NO. 99-20-7. HE ENCOURAGED US TO TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALER WHERE THEY COULD FURTHER DIAGNOSE AND HOOK UP TO THEIR DIAGNOSTIC MACHINES, AS OUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND HE WASN'T SET UP TO READ THE COMPUTER. WE DROVE THE TRUCK, WITH BRAND NEW OIL, 4 MILES TO OUR HOUSE, PARKED AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO COME AND TAKE IT TO THE DEALER WHERE WE HAD PURCHED THE VEHICLE. WE ALSO SAVED A SAMPLE OF THE CONTAMINATED OIL IN AN OLD WINDEX BOTTLE AND SENT IT TO THE DEALER. IT SAT FOR THREE DAYS WITH NO ONE LOOKING AT IT UNTIL I FINALLY DROVE THERE MYSELF AND ASKED WHAT THE HECK WAS GOING ON. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PERSON THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO LOOK AT THE CAR DID NOT COME INTO WORK AND HE HAD SOMEONE ELSE LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM. I THEN HAD TO CALL BACK WHEN I GOT HOME, 5 HOURS LATER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WHOLE ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED OR TAKEN APART TO SEE JUST HOW MUCH DAMAGE HAD BEEN DONE. THEY SAID IT WAS EXCESSIVELY DRIVEN WITH THE CONTAMINATED OIL. WE NEVER EVEN KNEW THAT THE OIL WAS CONTAMINATED, NOR WERE WE EVER NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL NOTICE. WE HAVE THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES, ALWAYS! THEN HE PROCEEDS TO TELL ME THAT OUR VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THAT IS ALL WE KNOW FOR NOW AND AM WAITING FOR MORE INFORMATION FROM THE DEALER AFTER HE TALKS WITH HIS MANAGER AND FORD. HOPING FOR THE BEST.
DRIVER SIDE DOOR HAS FORMED A CRACK IN THE METAL AROUND THE WINDOW FRAME IN RIGHT LOWER CORNER. IS THE FRAME WORK SECURE? DEALER WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING DUE TO VEHICLE BEING OUT OF WARRANTY.

I SPOKE WITH FORD AND MY FORD DEALER BOTH ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM BUT HAVE THE OPION THAT THE PROBLEM IS MINE SINCE I BOUGHT HE TRUCK USED. IT SEEMS THAT THIS A BIGGER PROBLEM THAN FORD WILL ADMIT TO. A SURVEY OF LOCAL LOTS BY MYSELF SHOWS 60% OF THE F150'S TO EXHIBIT THE SAME CRACKS. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE CRACK TO PROPAGATE ACCROSS THE ENTIRE DOOR? WHAT PROTECTION DOES THE DOOR OFFER IN A ROLL OVER IF IS IS CRACKED INTO TWO PIECES? I THINK IT IS RESONABLE TO EXPECT FORD TO STEP UP AND FIX A PROBLEM THEY KNOW ABOUT.*AK

8/10/00 '97 FORD F150 4X2 SUPERCAB W/FIRESTONE WILDERNESS HT P235/70R16OL INSPECTED BY FIRESTONE @ 5417 MCARDLE IN CC TEXAS FOUND 1 TIRE W/THREAD SEPARATION. TOLD THIS TIRE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL NOTICE & QUESTIONING WHY NOT. THIS IS THE NUMBER ON THE BAD TIRE U9766EXBM08945-3 THESE ARE THE NUMBERS FOR THE OTHER TIRES INCLUDING SPARE: U9762EXBM08945-3; 25324GX8M08945-3; U9988EXBM12656 (THIS ONE MADE IN CANADA ALL OTHERS MADE IN USA) FIRESTONE DEALER ONLY WOULD GIVE ME ANY ADJUSTMENT FOR THE ONE BAD TIRE & SAID THIS WAS IN NO WAY CONNECTED WITH THE PRESENT FIRESTONE TIRE RECALL. PE00-020, FIRESTONE WILDERNESS HT, ORIGINAL EQUIPPED TIRE, SIZE P23570R16 AND DOT W281PT. CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH WHEN RIGHT FRONT TIRE TREAD CAME COMPLETELY OFF ALL THE WAY TO STEEL BELT, CAUSING DAMAGE TO FENDER. TIRE DID NOT DEFLATE AND HAD ONLY 22,000 MILES. MINUTES PRIOR TO INCIDENT, CONSUMER NOTICED VEHICLE WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT AS THOUGH THERE WAS AN ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. ALSO, TIRE WAS AT CORRECT PRESSURE WHICH HE HAD CHECKED EARLIER THAT SAME DAY. *AK *SLC
BEAD SEPARATED AT JUNCTURE WHERE TIRE JOINS SIDEWALL-3/5 AROUND TIRE-LOSING AIR-STEEL BELTS EXPOSED. DROVE TO TN. TWICE IN JUNE WITH TIRE. FOUND PROBLEM AT ROTATION OF TIRES. STILL PLENTY OF TREAD ON TIRE/( DOT NUMBER: VN08IPU386 TIRE SIZE: P235/70R16 )
I HAVE HAD THREE TREAD SEPARATIONS SINCE BUYING THIS TRUCK NEW. THE FIRST ON 02/98, THE SECOND 05/06/00 WHICH CAUSED $750 BODY DAMAGE AND THE THIRD ON 08/10/00 WHICH OCCURED DURING THE REPAIRS IN THE MEANTIME FROM THE SECOND ONE. CONTINENTAL TIRE PAID FOR THE SECOND TIRES DAMAGE BUT BALKED AT THE THIRD. I AM SUING THEM IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT FOR $2200 FOR THE REPAIR OF THE TRUCK. WE GO TO ARBITRATION JUNE 14TH, 2001 IN BENSON AZ. THESE TIRES ARE A PIECE OF JUNK. I WOULD HAD A ROLLOVER IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING ANY FASTER THAN I DID (55 MPH) AND HAD NOT BEEN ALERT TO THE SITUATION. TEMPERATURE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT AS THE 2ND ON OCCURED LATE AT NIGHT AND THE 3RD WAS IN THE MORNING. I CANNOT EXPRESS MY GRIEF INVOVED IN THIS, AMERITECH TIRES SHOULD NEVER EVER BE SOLD ON ANY VEHICLE AND DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY IS FRUITLESS AS THEY INTENTIALLY DESTROYED THE TIRE AND EVIDENCE EVEN THOUGH I HAVE PROOF THAT I CALLED TO CLAIM THE TIRE BACK FOUR TIMES. THEY CLAIM THE TIRE HAD A REPAIR IN IT WHICH CAUSED THE FLAT. THE TIRE NEVER LOST AIR AND IT WAS THE TREAD THAT FELL OFF, NOT A FLAT TIRE. BUT THEY DESTROYED THE EVIDENCE. TOLD ME IT WASN'T ONE OF THE TIRES IN CURRENT RECALL. WOULD ORDER REPLACEMENT TO ARRIVE IN 6 DAYS. NO STATUS. TIRE IS STILL IN BED OF MY TRUCK.
