DOORS ARE CRACKING AT REAR SEAM OF WINDOW. VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH CONSUMER PURCHASED. DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT'S OUT OF THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY. *AK *JB
WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65 TO 70 MPH IN A 1998 FORD F150, THE LEFT/REAR FIRESTONE WILDERNESS HT TIRE, SIZE: P235/70R16, DOT: W2081PT088, EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. THIS INCIDENT CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE LEFT/REAR WHEEL WELL AND TO THE REAR BUMPER. THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES ON THE TIRE AND IT WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. NOTE: TIRE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION.*AK *JB
DIFFERENTIAL GEARS ATTACHED TO TRANSMISSION, HOLE THE OIL FOR TRANSMISSION. DIFFERENTAL IS DRIPPING EVERY DAY BECAUSE SEAL THAT HOLES IT IN SECURELY IS DEFECTIVE.*AK
ORIGINALLY NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER-SIDE POWER WINDOW WAS SLOWING DOWN, THEN NOTICED CRACKING ON THE DRIVER-SIDE DOOR. THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH FORD'S SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE #12071. DATE UNKNOWN, BUT WINDOW BEHAVIOR DATES TO FALL 2001. *NLM
THERE IS A CRACK ON THE SIDE OF THE DOOR THAT GOES FROM BACK OF DOOR, AND IT'S ABOUT FOUR INCHES LONG. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *AK *JB
WHILE TRAVELING AT THE SPEED LIMIT ON I-295 IN JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA A BRIDGESTONE TIRE MOUNTED ON THE LEFT REAR OF MY VEHICLE SUFFERED A BLOW OUT. WHILE BLOW OUTS DO OCCUR, IN THIS INSTANCE THE TREAD CAME COMPLETELY OF THE TIRE PRIOR TO A VERY VIOLENT EXPLOSION OF THE TIRE. THIS CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND LOSS OF CONTROL. I HAVE CONTACTED BRIDGESTONE REGARDING THIS, AND THEY HAVE CHOSEN TO DENY, AND IGNORE THE PROBLEM. THE TIRE HAD PLENTY OF TREAD AND APPEARED IN GOOD CONDITION. IT WAS BEING OPERATED AT THE CORRECT PRESSURE OF 44LBS COLD. PLASTIC PISTON IN FRONT DISC BRAKE ASSEMBLY ABSORBS BRAKE FLUID, RESULTING IN SWELLING OF PISTON THAT CAUSES THE PISTON TO FREEZE IN THE CYLINDER, RENDERING THE BRAKE SYSTEM UNUSABLE.*AK
PASSENGER'S AND DRIVER'S SIDE DOORS WERE CRACKING. CRACK STARTED FROM BOTTOM OF WINDOW AND IT ENDED ON DOOR OF BOTH SIDES. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *AK

WHEN APPYLING BRAKES, BRAKE PAD WILL RUB AGAINST ROTOR, CAUSING THE ROTORS TO WARP. *AK CONSUMER STATES WHILE APPLYING BRAKES, THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL GRABBED MAKING A THUMPING NOISE CAUSING THE SURFACE OF THE ROTOR TO FLAKE. THE FLAKING CHEWED THE BRAKE PADS EXCESSIVELY. ROTORS HAD TO REPLACED. *TT
CONSUMER HEARD NOISE FROM BACK END OF VEHICLE. DEALER DETERMINED THAT REAR LEAF SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. IN MARCH OF 2002,REAR LEAF SPRINGS BROKE AGAIN.*AK
HAD A TIRE BLOWOUT WHILE ON INTERSTATE. GOODYEAR DEALER INSPECTED TIRE AND DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NO CUTS OR PUNCTURES THAT CAUSED THE BLOWOUT.GOODYEAR OFFERED A DISCOUNT ON A NEW TIRE BASED ON TREAD WEAR.GOODYEAR DEALERS , HOWEVER DO NOT HAVE THE TIRE NEEDED. I CONTACTED GOODYEAR AND THEY SAID THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER AND I SHOULD JUST BUT A USED TIRE TO USE UNTIL TIRES ARE AVAILABLE.I DON'T WANT TO USE ANY USED TIRES AND I AM NOW AFRAID OF MY OTHER TIRES ON ANY INTERSTATE DRIVING.GOODYEAR WAS VERY UNCOOPERATIVE TO TRY TO HELP ME IN ANY WAY EXCEPT TO SAY THEY DON'T HAVE MY PARTICULAR TIRE. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH RPMS SUDDENLY WENT WAY UP AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL DID NOT RESPOND ANYMORE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER, WHO STATED TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. THIS IS A REBUILT TRANSMISSION INSTALLED BY FORD AT 19000 MILES WHEN ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. *AK

WHEN CONSUMER STOPPED AND EXAMINED VEHICLE, LEFT REAR FIRESTONE WILDERNESS HT TIRE , SIZE: P235/70R16, DOT: W20B1PT397 HAD 1'6" OF TREAD SEPARATION. THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 41,000 MILES ON TIRES, AND THEY WERE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. *AK THESE TIRES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 00T005, HOWEVER CONSUMER IS STILL REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT. *SLC

OVER THE COURSE OF TWO WEEK THE TIRE GOT A BULGE AND STARTED PULLING APART
I WAS INVOLVED IN A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT WHERE AS I WAS INJURED BY THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG UPON DEPLOYMENT OF SAID DEVICE. WHE IT WAS DEPLOYED THE COVER PART HIT MY RIGHT FOREARM CAUSING IT TO HAVE A LARGE KNOT ON IT AND INSTANT SWELLING TO THE POINT I HAD TO BE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR EXRAYS TO SEE IF IT WAS BROKEN, WHICH IT WASN'T. WHEN THE AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED THE ACTUAL AIRBAG DID NOT COME STRAIGHT OUT TOWARDS ME INSTEAD IT WENT OUT SIDE WAYS NEVER EVEN TOUCHING ME. I CALOLED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT WS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I WAS NOT LOOKING FOR ANYTHING I JUST WANTED THEM TO CHECK INTO THE MATTER BUT I JUST GOT THE RUNAROUND. DRIVERS SIDE OUTER TIE ROD CAME APART WHILE DRIVING.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT 55 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF CONSUMER'S VEHICLE, CONSUMR DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL WITH FORCE, CAUSING WHEELS TO LOCK UP. CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, AND RAN INTO OTHER VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
AROUND 1 AUGUST 2001 I WAS TALKING WITH SOME FRIENDS AT WORK, DURING THE CONVERSATION DEFECTS IN THE DOOR DESIGN OF THE NEW FORD F-150 PICKUP TRUCK CAME UP. I HAD PURCHASED AN F-150 SUPER CAB IN APRIL 2001 AND HADNT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THIS DEFECT. MY FRIENDS STATED THAT THE DOOR ON THE NEW F-150S WERENT DESIGNED PROPERLY FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE DOOR AND WOULD START TO DEVELOP CRACKS. THEY SAID THAT IF I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FORD WOULD PAY TO REPAIR THE CRACKS. I CHECKED MY TRUCK AND I NOTICED A CRACK AT THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER OF MY DRIVERS DOOR NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW. I WENT TO CROWNE FORD IN WARRENSBURG, MO 660-747-7111, ON 6 AUG 01 AND SPOKE WITH MR. CHRIS MARTEN HE INFORMED THAT I NEEDED TO CONTACT FORD DIRECTLY BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN APRIL 2001 THE WARRANTY ON MY TRUCK EXPIRED IN FEBRUARY 2001. AFTER ARRIVING AT HOME I CALLED FORD ON 6 AUG 01 AT 11:45AM AT 800-392-3673 AND SPOKE WITH MARK, EMPLOYEE # 2547. MARK INFORMED ME THAT FORD WOULD NOT REPAIR THE DEFECT SINCE THE 3/36-WARRANTY PERIOD HAD EXPIRED. (NOTE) WHAT I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED IS THAT FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS DEFECT SINCE 1997. THE DEFECT WAS CORRECTED IN THE 2000-YEAR MODELS BUT MANY CUSTOMERS WHO DISCOVERED CRACKS AND BROUGHT THEIR TRUCKS IN FOR REPAIR PRIOR TO 2000 HAD NEW DOORS INSTALLED WITH THE SAME DEFECT IN THEM. FORD HAS EVEN SENT OUT A TECHNICAL BULLETIN TO THEIR DEALERS, ARTICLE # 01-2-6 BUT FAILED TO INFORM THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE DEFECT. FORD WOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIRS ONLY IF THE CUSTOMER BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THERE SEEMS TO BE A CONTINUING PROBLEM WITH FORD NOT INFORMING THE PUBLIC ABOUT KNOWN DEFECTS WITH THEIR VEHICLES UNTIL AFTER SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. I HOPE THAT THE NHTSB CAN HELP RESOLVE THIS DEFECT FOR ALL FORD F-150 OWNERS AND MYSELF. *AK

ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS IS $682.47 FROM WHICH DEALER OFFERED FORDS PORTION (65%). I DECLINED AND STATED THAT FORDS SHOULD COVER 100% OF COSTS SINCE THESE ARE NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ITEMS. NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED. *AK
I WAS DRIVING ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH AND LUCKILY MY SISTER WAS DRIVING BEHIND ME AND NOTICED MY PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE GOING LOW. I BEGAN TO MERGE MY TRUCK OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE WHEN THE TIRE COMPLETELY FAILED AND THE REAR OF THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SWERVE. ONCE I PULLED OVER AND LOOKED AT THE TIRE I SAW A SIX INCH GASH ROUGHLY ONE INCH FROM THE RAISED FIRESTONE LETERING RUNNING HORIZONTAL WITH THE SEAM OF THE TREAD. ANOTHER GASH WAS OBSERVED IN THE SAME LOCATION SMALLER IN SIZE BUT ON THE SAME SEAM ROUGHLY TWELVE INCHES FROM THE SIX INCH GASH. WHILE DRIVING TO BIRMINGHAM, AL ONE DAY, THE LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE, AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, BUT LUCKALY I MAINTAINED CONTROL ALTHO I DID SWEARVE, AND ANOTHER CAR THAT WAS BEHIND ME RAN OVER MY TREAD. WHILE FIRESTONE MAINTAINES THAT HT TIRES ARE SUPERIOR TO AT TIRES, I BELIEVE THEY OUGHT TO BE ON THE RECALL LIST, AS ANOTHER TIRE ON MY TRUC IS STARTING TO CRACK AND MAY SEPERATE AT ANY GIVEN SUNDAY. ALL ATTEMTPS AT GETTING FIRESTONE TO REPLACE MY TIRES FOR NOTHING HAVE GONE BY WITH NO LUCK. THEY NEED TO BE PUT ON THE RECALL LIST. I HAVE PICTURES. TIRE TREAD SEPARATION. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO FRONT END BEGAN EXPERIENCING STEERING PROBLEMS WHICH CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO MOVE FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND THE FRONT END TO BOUNCE. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED, I CHECKED THE TIRES AND COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG. AFTER ABOUT 4 DAYS OF THIS AND REPEATED VISUAL TIRE CHECKS, TIRES FINALLY SHOWED VISIBLE SIGNS OF TIRE TREAD SEPARATION. WE HAD THE TWO FRONT TIRES REPLACED WITH NEW GENERAL 550 AS TIRES. ABOUT THREE DAYS AGO (24 JUL) I NOTICED THAT THE REAR END OF THE TRUCK WAS BOUNCING AND THAT SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT. A VISIBLE CHECK OF THE REMAINING TWO ORIGINAL GENERAL AS 550 TIRES DID NOT REVEAL A PROBLEM, BUT I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. AFTER DRIVING MY SON TO DRIVER'S ED THIS MORNING, I STOPPED FOR GAS AND NOTICED TIRE TREAD SEPARATION IN THE BACK TIRES. I KNOW YOU ARE LOOKING INTO TIRE TREAD SEPARATION ON THE AM GEN 550 AS TIRES AND I WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT ALL FOUR OF OUR TIRES HAD SEPARATED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. HEADING IN TO WORK ON TUESDAY, JULY 17TH, I EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT ON THE LEFT-REAR TIRE OF MY FORD F-150 PICKUP TRUCK. I WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE VEHICLE AT THIS PARTICULAR TIME. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF THIS EVENT UNTIL I HEARD THE NEWS TODAY ABOUT THESE TIRES BEING INVESTIGATED BY NHTSA. FROM MY OBSERVATION, THIS OCCURRENCE WAS DUE TO A VERTICAL RIP IN THE SIDE WALL AND NOT DIRECTLY RELATED TREAD SEPARATION. I'M LOOKING TO PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT SET TIRES THIS COMING WEEKEND FOR THE VEHICLE. I WOULD LIKE TO BE UPDATED ON THE LATEST INVESTIGATION STATUS OF THIS MODEL TIRE AND IF I SHOULD PRECEED WITH MY CURRENT PURCHASE. A TIMELY RESPONSE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. LEFT FRONT TIRE HAS CRACKS AND HOLES AROUND SHOLDER OF TIRE THAT GO COMPLETELY DOWN TO THE STEEL BAND.FIRESTONE REPRESENTATIVE WARNED ME NOT TO DRIVE TRUCK AT SPEED AS FRONT TIRE IS DANGEROUS. NEW FORD VEHICLES HAVE WINDSHIELDS THAT APPEAR TO BE MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO BREAKAGE DURING NORMAL USE THAN PREVIOUSLY. THIS IS A HAZARD TO SAFE DRIVING AS WELL AS UNFAIR TO THE CONSUMER AS THERE IS NOT A WAY FOR THEM TO DETERMINE THE QUALITY OF A WINDSHIELD IN EXAMINING THE VEHICLE. *AK
I WAS TRAVELING AT POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 65 MPH ON SOUTH-BOUND FREEWAY NEAR ASHLAN AVENUE IN FRESNO WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED. INITIALLY, I THOUGHT I HAD HIT SOMETHING IN ROAD AND IT GOT CAUGHT IN THE UNDERCARRIAGE. THERE WAS A VIOLENT VIBRATION FOR APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET. I IMMEDIATELY SLOWED AND GOT IN THE CENTER LANE MAKING MY WAY OFF THE FREEWAY AND 3-MILES TO MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK, CHECKED FOR DAMAGE AND FOUND THERE WAS NO TREAD ON THE TIRE AND MY LEFT REAR FENDER WAS THRASHED. THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HAS DEVELOPED A CRACK IN IT. THE METAL ITSSELF IS ACTUALLY CRACKING. THE CRACK IS LOCATED NEAR THE WINDOW AND EXTENDS APPOX 1/2" FROM THW WINDOW OUT. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AS THE VEHICLE IS OVER THE MILEAGE. FORD DID TELL ME THAT THEY KNOW OF THIS PROBLEM AND THAT THE DOORS ARE NOT CAPABLE OF BEING OPEN AND SHUT NUMEROUS TIMES. IT IS A DESIGN PROBLEM ACCORDING TO THEM.*AK

DRIVER'S DOOR FRAME IS CRACKED, AND HAS BEEN THAT WAY SINCE CONSUMER TOOK POSSESSION OF VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP EXAMINED VEHICLE, AND STATED THIS PROBLEM WAS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION BY FORD. ONLY OPTION FOR A CORRECTIVE ACTION GIVEN TO THE CONSUMER WAS REPLACEMENT OF DOOR. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / ATTACHMENTS. *AK
CONSUMER GOT INTO VEHICLE TO BACK OUT AND FRONT END COLLAPSED. SERVICE MANGER STATED IT HAPPENED ALL THE TIME FROM NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. SERVICE IF VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PROPERLY, THEY WOULD'VE BEEN ABLE TO CATCH IT IN TIME. CONSUMER PURCHASED VEHICLE ON OCTOBER 26, 2000 FROM SAME DEALER WITH A CLEAN INSPECTION. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO SEVERAL MECHANICS, WHO STATED THAT PIN TO BALL JOINT BROKE BECAUSE OF THE INCLINE, AND THE ANGLE CONSUMER WAS TURNING WHEEL CAUSED IT TO SNAP FRONT END.*AK
