THE FRONT STRAP ON MY F-150 FUEL TANK HAS RUSTED AND BROKE BUT THE BACK ONE IS STILL HOLDING, I AM WAITING ON THE INVESTIGATION OF THIS PROBLEM TO TURN IT INTO A RECALL AND I THOUGHT I SHOULD REPORT THIS TO ADD TO THE INVESTIGATION
IN MAY WAS AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I ACCELERATED AND THE PLUG BLEW AT SECONDS LATER I GOT IT TOWED TO THE SHOP FIXED IT WITH THE HELI-COIL KIT DAYS LATER AS I WAS GOING UP A STEEP HILL HEARD A POPPING SOUND BROUGHT IT RIGHT TO THE SHOP ANOTHER PLUG WAS READY TO EJECT THEY PULLED ALL PLUGS ANTI SEIZED THEM GOOD FOR A COUPLE MONTHS NOW IN SEPT IT IS READY TO LOSE ANOTHER PLUG. MY TRUCK IS A 1999 FORD F-150 TRITON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH WHEN HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. HE THEN PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE STRAPS HAD RUSTED, CAUSING THE TANK TO DETACH. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE STRAPS AND THE FUEL TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 182,500. I HAVE A FORD F-150 PICKUP TRUCK 1999 AND LAST WEEK THE GAS TAND FELL OFF. MY MECHANIC SAID THAT THE STRAPS HOLDING THE TAND WERE RUSTED THROUGH. WHEN THE TANK FELL IT ALSO TOOK OUT THE BRAKE LINES AND I HAD NO BRAKES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN SHE STARTED TO HEAR A LOUD DRAGGING NOISE FROM THE VEHICLE. SHE THEN NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT THE STRAPS THAT HELD THE TANK WERE MISSING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE STRAPS AND THE FUEL TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT THERE WOULD POSSIBLY BE A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE IN THE FUTURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 166,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TOOK OUR F150 FORD IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND TO CHECK EVERYTHING OUT. FOUND THAT ONE GAS TANK STRAP WAS RUSTED ALL THE WAY THRU AND THE OTHER ONE WAS ALMOST RUSTED THRU. NOT VERY SAFE@. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONE OF THE STRAPS THAT HOLD THE FUEL TANK BROKE AS A RESULT OF CORROSION. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT A ROPE HAD TO BE ATTACHED IN ORDER TO TEMPORARILY HOLD THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REFERRED HER TO NHTSA. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,915. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE NOZZLE WAS CRACKED. UPDATED 07/15/11
TL* THE DRIVER OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE AT A TRAFFIC STOP. BOTH OF THE FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE FRACTURED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE FUEL TANK WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 156,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 157,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F150. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE FUEL TANK SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND CONFIRMED THAT THE GASOLINE TANK STRAPS WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE GASOLINE TANK, STRAPS, AND HOSES. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILES WERE 101,014. UPDATED 06/01/11*LJ THE CONSUMER ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE GAS LINES. UPDATED 08/22/11
WHILE DRIVING 45MPH ON SUBURBAN TWO LANE HIGHWAY I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND SUBSEQUENT RHYTHMIC POPPING SOUND ACCOMPANIED BY AN ENGINE MISFIRING. UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THE # 4 CYLINDER SPARK PLUG LYING ON THE VALVE COVER; UN ATTACHED TO THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE MECHANIC FOUND THE THREADS "BLOWN OUT" OF THE HEAD AND HAD TO UTILIZE A HELI-COIL KIT TO REPAIR. THE SPARK PLUG WAS A MOTORCRAFT ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT PART. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH THE TRITON 5.4 LITER ENGINE. I SUSPECT THE PROBLEM ORIGINATING FROM UNDUE STRESS FRACTURES IN THE ALUMINUM HEAD AFTER CONTINUED USE AND INHERENT THERMAL DIFFERENTIAL RATES (EXPANSIONS/CONTRACTIONS) OF THE TWO DIFFERENT METALS; I.E. STEEL SPARK PLUG VS. ALUMINUM ALLOY HEAD. POOR ENGINEERING !! I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE F150 WITH 140K MILES. *TR
1999 FORD F150 BRAKE FAILURE DO TO BRAKE LINES RUSTED THROUGH. *TR
WE HAVE A 1999 FORD F-150 AND THE GAS TANK FELL OUT! FORTUNATELY IT WAS AT HOME IN THE DRIVEWAY, BUT THIS IS CRAZY. WE WERE BACKING UP OUR DRIVEWAY WHEN WE HEARD A THUD AND THE TRUCK WAS SHAKING AND JITTERING. WE CONTINUED UP THE DRIVEWAY, WHICH CAUSED A DEEP GOUGE IN THE DRIVEWAY. WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO HAVE OUR DRIVE WAY REPAIRED, AND WE JUST HAD IT PUT IN ON OCTOBER 16TH, 2010. THE STRAPS THAT HOLD THE TANK IN PLACE, RUSTED OUT, THEY ARE A CRUMBLED MESS. WE ARE CURRENTLY TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO GET THE GAS OUT OF THE TANK SO WE CAN LIFT IT BACK IN TO PLACE AND USE NEW STRAPS. *TR

DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND HEARD LOUD SCRAPING AND THEN SMELLED GAS. PULLED OVER TO FIND GAS TANK DRAGGING ON THE GROUND WITH GAS LEAKING OUT OF TANK. HAD IT TOWED HOME. HAD TO REPLACE GAS TANK,HOSES,VENT AND BOTH TANK STRAPS. THE CONSUMER STATED BOTH STRAPS BROKE AND RUSTED ACROSS THE WHOLE WIDTH OF THE TANK. THEY FELL APART IN PIECES. THEY WERE CORRODED VERY BAD. F-150 FUEL TANK MOUNTING STRAP FAILURE. *TR UPDATED 08/01/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE FORWARD STRAP FAILED. IT BROKE NEAR THE FRAME ATTACH POINT. THE STRAP WAS MANUFACTURED WITH A SPOT WELD DOUBLER PLATE WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE FRAME. BOTH STRAPS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE TRUCK IS GARAGE KEPT AND SHOWS NO SIGNS OF CORROSION ELSEWHERE. NO FUEL WAS SPILLED AND THE STRAPS WERE REPLACED BEFORE TOTAL SUPPORT FAILURE OCCURRED. UPDATED 08/02/11
I OWN A 1999 FORD F-150 WITH THE 5.4 LITER TRITON ENGINE AND IT HAS BLOWN OUT 2 DIFFERENT SPARK PLUGS IN THE LAST YEAR. THE FIRST ONE HAPPENED TRAVELING DOWN I-95 AND THE SECOND ONE HAPPENED IN A 35 MPH ZONE. *TR
I HAVE A 1999 FORD F150 THAT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MILES PER HOUR, THE #3 SPARKPLUG SUDDENLY BLEW CAUSING THE TRUCK TO TREMENDOUSLY JERK. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS HAPPENING AND FORD DENYING IT IS A ISSUE WITH THEIR MOTORS. I CANNOT AFFORD $800 THAT FORD WANTS TO CHARGE ME TO FIX A SPARK PLUG ISSUE. I'M NOT MECHANICAL INCLINED AND DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO IT BY MYSELF. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN SITTING FOR 2 MONTHS BECAUSE OF GROSS NEGLIGENCE BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY BY NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR AN ISSUE THAT CLEARLY NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BEFORE (IF IT HAS NOT HAPPENED ALREADY) CAUSING DEATH. LUCKILY, IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT AND NO OTHER CARS WERE NEAR ME WHEN IT JERKED MY TRUCK SO BADLY THAT SOMEONE CLEARLY WOULD HAVE REAR ENDED ME.
1999 FORD TRITON 5,4L. #2 SPARKPLUG THREAD FAILURE. THE SPARKPLUG WAS BLOWN OUT OF HEAD AND IGNITED A SMALL FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING A 1999 FORD F-150 ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH WHEN THE GAS TANK STRAPS BROKE AND THE TANK DRAGGED ON THE HIGHWAY FOR 5 MILES BEFORE ANOTHER DRIVER NOTICED THE DRAGGING TANK AND MOTIONED FOR ME TO PULL OVER. THE ONLY THING HOLDING THE TANK FROM COMPLETELY FALLING OFF WAS THE FUEL LINES. THE TANK WAS ALSO LEAKING GAS ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS NO FIRE, BUT MOST LIKELY THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN IF I DIDN'T PULL OVER. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT IT WOULD COST ABOUT $600 TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED TANK AND FUEL PUMP. THE TRUCK IS NOT WORTH REPAIRING, SO IT IS GOING TO THE JUNK YARD. *TR
BLOWN SPARK PLUG FROM FORD TRITON V10 ENGINE WHICH CAN CAUSE A MAJOR FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS OVER RAILROAD TRACKS HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE TWO STRAPS THAT HOLD THE TANK IN PLACE HAD FRACTURED AND THEY WERE COVERED WITH RUST. FUEL SPILLED FROM THE FUEL TANK AND APPROXIMATELY FIVE TO SIX GALLONS SPILLED ONTO THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AND ALSO REPLACED THE STRAPS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 226,600.
I HAVE A 99 FORD F150 PICKUP TRUCK WHICH HAS TWO FUEL TANK STRAPS THAT ARE UNSAFE BECAUSE OF EXTREAM RUST. ONE IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THRU AND THE OTHER ONE RUSTED BADLY. I HAD THEM REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE BY FORD DEALER. I CALLED FORD MOTOR CO AND TALKED TO REP REGARDING POSSIBLE RECALL AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO PLANS FOR A RECALL OF THIS DEFECT AT THIS TIME. THIS WAS ON SEP 27 2010 BY CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER REP. THERE WAS NOT AN INCINDENT BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT BECAUSE I INSPECTED MY VEH AND SAW THE PROBLEM MYSELF AND WENT TO FORD DEALER TO INQUIRE ABOUT POSSIBLE RECALL AND WAS TOLD NONE, SO I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERV. *TR
STRAPS TO HOLD FUEL TANK ONTO VEHICLE RUSTED OUT AND FAILED. HAD TO REPLACE FUEL TANK STRAPS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS COVERED WITH RUST AND IT WAS FRACTURED, CAUSING IT TO DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE GASOLINE TANK STRAPS, FUEL LEVEL SENSOR AND THE FUEL TANK. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BECAME STUCK, CAUSING THE CLUTCH TO WEAR OUT. IN ADDITION, THE STOPPING DISTANCE WAS INCREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 98V192000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. WHILE EXAMINING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK STRAP HAD RUSTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 115,000.
1-SEVERE CORROSION OF FUEL TANK STRAPS. THE REAR STRAP IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH, RESULTING IN THE TANK BEING HELD UP BY THE FRONT STRAP. THE SKID PLATE IS KEEPING THE TANK FROM FALLING DOWN. LUCKILY I NOTICED THIS WHILE CHECKING THE AIR PRESSURE IN MY TIRES. I WILL BE GETTING NEW STRAPS THIS WEEK TO DO THE REPAIR MYSELF. I WILL KEEP THE OLD STRAPS. 2- BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH ON MASTER CYLINDER LEAKS. THIS CAUSES THE CRUISE CONTROL TO BE INOPERATIVE. BRAKE FLUID LEAKS OUT ONTO THE WIRING. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THE REPAIR FOR THE RECALL ON THE WIRING HARNESS. I BELIEVE THAT THE LEAKING BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH ALSO CREATES A FIRE HAZARD AS IT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A SHORT IN THE WIRING. I WILL ALSO OBTAIN AND REPLACE THIS PART. *TR
THREE BRAKE LINES RUSTED OUT AND LEAKING IN LAST 2 YEARS INCIDENT DATE IS AN ESTIMATE. *TR
1999 F150 4X4, THE REAR FUEL TANK SUPPORT STRAP WAS RUSTED IN HALF AND HANGING BELOW TRUCK. I REPLACED BOTH STRAPS ON THE TRUCK. *TR
MY 1999 FORD F150 TRUCK WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR OVER TWO DAYS. THE ECU MODULE SHORTED OUT AND STARTED TO BURN LARGE AMOUNT OF SMOKE BILLOWED OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF TRUCK. TRUCK WAS REPAIRED WITH A USED PART SINCE FORD NO LONGER MANUFACTURES THE ECU MODULE. *TR
1999 FORD F-150 WAS TOWED INTO SHOP FOR A NO START PROBLEM WHICH WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY FUEL PUMP. THE FUEL PUMP ON THIS PARTICULAR TRUCK IS LOCATED INSIDE THE FUEL TANK ITSELF WHICH MUST BE REMOVED TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE PUMP. WHEN STARTING THIS PROCEDURE, THE MECHANICS IMMEDIATELY DISCOVERED THAT BOTH TANK STRAPS HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND THE FUEL TANK WAS NO LONGER HELD IN PLACE BY THE FUEL TANK STRAPS AND WAS INSTEAD RESTING ON THE FUEL TANK SKID PLATE. IF THIS WAS A 2-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO SKID PLATE AND THE TANK WOULD INSTEAD HAVE BEEN DRAGGING IN THE GROUND CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE FUEL TANK SUDDENLY FELL OFF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE STRAPS THAT HELD IT HAD RUSTED. THE METAL GAS TANK STRAP ON MY 1999 FORD F150 IS RUSTED IN TWO AND CAUSED THE GAS TANK TO SAG. IF I WOULD NOT HAVE CAUGHT THIS THE OTHER TANK STRAP COULD HAVE BROKE CAUSING MY TANK TO FALL WHILE DRIVING. *TR
AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK WITH PREMIUM FUEL, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE GAS TANK STRAPS BROKE DUE TO RUST. THE STRAPS APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH, WITH ONLY THE PLASTIC TANK STRAP SLEEVES HOLDING THE TANK UP. THE TANK DROPPED TO THE PAVEMENT, CAUSING A HOLE IN THE FRONT LOWER CORNER OF THE TANK. ALL FUEL SPILLED OUT OF THE TANK. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED, AND THE SPILL WAS CLEANED UP. THE ROAD WAS WET FROM RAIN AT THE TIME, THUS PREVENTING SPARKING AND IGNITION OF THE SPILLED FUEL, ACCORDING TO THE FIRE CHIEF. *TR

FUEL TANK SECURING STRAP BROKE ON 99 FORD F150 BECAUSE OF RUST THROUGH. BOTH STRAPS HAD TO BE REPLACED. FUEL TANK WAS CLOSE TO FALLING OFF TRUCK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 5 MPH AND TRAVELED OVER A SPEED BUMP WHEN THE FUEL TANK DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS MINIMAL FUEL SPILLAGE. THE FUEL STRAPS WERE RUSTED AND CORRODED YET THE FRONT STRAP WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE CONTACT AT A COST OF $200. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 184,000. UPDATED 6/8/11 *CN

ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2010, I WAS DRIVING ON A DIRT ROAD AT SPEEDS OF UNDER 25 MILES PER HOUR WHEN I HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. I PULLED THE VEHICLE SAFELY OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND MYSELF, AND THE 2 OTHER PEOPLE IN THE TRUCK GOT OUT TO ATTEMPT TO LOCATE THE SOURCE OF THE NOISE. IMMEDIATELY, WE NOTICED THAT THE FRONT FUEL TANK STRAP(THE STRAP CLOSEST TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE) WAS RUSTED AND BROKEN. AS A RESULT, THE TANK WAS LOOSE AND BOUNCING. THAT CAUSED IT TO HIT THE UNDERSIDE OF THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. SINCE WE WERE MANY MILES FROM AN AUTO PARTS STORE, WE USED A SMALL RACHET STRAP TO KEEP THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE. THE NEXT DAY, I SAW A NEWS STORY ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION, AND DECIDED TO HOLD OFF ON MAKING THE REPAIR UNTIL I CONTACTED THE NHTSA OFFICE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F150. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND FOUND THE GAS TANK FELL OFF THE VEHICLE, THE GAS TANK STRAP BROKE DUE TO CORROSION. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PUT THE GAS TANK BACK ON THE VEHICLE WITH SOME NYLON STRAPS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WILL BE CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 200,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNED A 1999 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER DRIVING 1/4 MILE AND THEN PARKING THE VEHICLE NEAR THE GARAGE THE TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE WHILE IT WAS TURNED OFF. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. FORD HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000. MY SON WAS DRIVING HIS 99 F150 SOUTHBOUND ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY, GOING ABOUT 50 MPH WHEN HE HEARD A POP, AND THEN THE TRUCK WENT OUT OF CONTROL. THE REAR OF THE PICKUP BEGAN TO TRAVEL LEFT ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. IN THE NORTHBOUND LANE, IT BEGAN TO ROLL OVER, DRIVERS SIDE FIRST, FINALLY LANDING UPRIGHT AT THE LEFT EDGE OF THE HIGHWAY, THEN SLID DOWN AN EMBANKMENT FRONT FIRST IN SOME TREES. THE LEFT REAR AXLE HAD FRACTURED AND SNAPPED AND THE HUB AND WHEEL HAD COME OFF. THANKFULLY, HE AND HIS GIRLFRIEND SUFFERED NO PERMANENT INJURIES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 1999 FORD F-150 THE GAS TANK FELL TO THE GROUND. THE STRAPS RUSTED THROUGH, AND THE TANK WAS DRUG BY THE FUEL LINE. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NOT A LEAK OR A FIRE. *TR
I NOTICED A TICKING NOISE WHICH SOUNDED LIKE AN EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS AND JUST TODAY I WAS TAKING OFF FROM A STOP SIGN WHEN THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD CREATING A LOUD KNOCKING/TICKING NOISE. I HAVE NOT HAD IT FIXED YET, BUT FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THIS CAN CREATE ENGINE FIRES WHICH CAN BE A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN HE NOTICED A COMPONENT FRACTURING FROM THE VEHICLE. HE THEN PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE WERE CALLED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE FUEL TANK AND THE STRAPS HAD FRACTURED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
DRIVING F 150 ON HIGHWAY, GAS TANK TORPEDOES INTO ASPHALT, LEAKING FUEL, ALMOST REAR ENDED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER. GAS LEAKING, CALLED TOWING COMPANY FOR A FLATBED, COULD NOT BE TOWED BECAUSE LEAKING FUEL. RUSTED STRAPS. TOWING COMPANY SAID, THIS WAS THEIR FIFTH F 150 IN TWO WEEKS WITH FAULTY STRAPS. *TT
REF: PE10036 THIS SUBMISSION HAS BEEN PROVIDED TO INDICATE AN ADDITIONAL OCCURRENCE OF THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE10036: ON OR ABOUT AUGUST 6, 2010, THE REAR FUEL TANK STRAP ON MY 1999 F150 BROKE. AS A RESULT, THE REAR OF THE TANK DROPPED ABOUT 8-12 INCHES. THE TANK DID NOT HIT THE GROUND AND DID NOT SPILL FUEL. IT REMAINED SUSPENDED BY THE FRONT STRAP. OVER THAT WEEKEND, I NOTED THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SEEMED TO DROP SUDDENLY, HOWEVER I DID NOT INVESTIGATE WHY. I FILLED THE TANK ON THAT DAY. ON AUGUST 9, 2010, A RELATIVE OF MINE SAW THE REAR OF THE TANK HANGING A FEW INCHES ABOVE THE GROUND. THE STRAP BROKE BECAUSE OF OBVIOUS EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE CORROSION ON THE TANK WHERE IT CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE STRAP WAS ALSO EXCESSIVE. AS A RESULT, I REPLACED THE TANK AND BOTH STRAPS WITH AFTER-MARKET PARTS. *TR
I DRIVE A 1999 FORD F150. ON AUGUST 3, 2010, I HAD MY TRUCK INTO THE SERVICE CENTER TO REPLACE A BRAKE LINE. WHILE THEY WERE REPLACING THE BRAKE LINE, THEY NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE STRAPS TO THE GAS TANK HAS BROKEN AND THE OTHER WAS ALMOST RUSTED THROUGH. I SEE THAT YOU HAVE OPENING AN INVESTIGATION INTO THESE AND I WANT TO ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE AN ACCURATE COUNT OF THE PROBLEMS. I HAD BOTH STRAPS REPLACED. *TR
