ON 2/22/2005 WE TOOK OUR 2000 FORD F-150 TO COMMUNITY FORD IN MOORESVILLE INDIANA FOR RECALL WORK TO DISABLE THE CRUISE CONTROL .WHEN WE GOT OUR TRUCK BACK, AFTER THE TRIP HOME, I REALIZED THAT I HAD NO TURN SIGNAL, NO BRAKE LIGHTS, NO EMERGENCY FLASHERS, AND MY HEAD LIGHTS WORKED AT TIMES. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY HAD NO CLUE WHAT WAS WRONG BUT SAID TO BRING IT BACK. AFTER WORK THAT EVENING WE RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WE WAITED AN HOUR WHILE THEY CHECKED EVERYTHING, COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. SUDDENLY THEY DECIDED TO MOVE THE TILT STEERING WHEEL AND LIGHTS WENT OFF AND ON. THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE OVERNIGHT AND REPAIRED A BROKEN HARNESS IN THE STEERING COLUMN. WHEN I ASKED HOW THIS HARNESS GOT BROKEN, THEY SAID IT'S COMMON IN RANGERS AND OCCASIONALLY IN F-150'S. I ASKED FOR THE BROKEN PART AND THEY COULDN'T FIND IT. THEY CHARGED ME $131.13 AND SAID IF I HAD ANY ISSUES WITH THIS TO CALL THE CUSTOMER CARE CENTER FOR FORD. THEY WERE OF NO HELP. I CALLED 3 OTHER FORD DEALERSHIPS AND ASKED IF THEY WERE FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM. ONE HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT AND SUGGESTED I CALL THE MANAGER OF COMMUNITY FORD. ANOTHER HAD HEARD OF IT ,BUT NEVER SEEN IT,AND THE THIRD HAD SEEN IT ONCE. I ASKED THE CUSTOMER CARE PEOPLE WHY THERE WASN'T A RECALL ON THIS, AND THEY SAID IT WASN'T A SAFETY ISSUE, ONLY FIRES WERE CONSIDER SAFETY ISSUES. I'M SORRY I HAVE A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THIS. IF THEY ARE PRODUCING VEHICLES THAT CAN LOSE BREAK LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS WHILE YOU'RE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD,THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!!!!!I AM WRITING A LETTER TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY,A ND I WILL NOT CALL THE MANAGER OF COMMUNITY FORD,THEY'VE ALREADY LET ME KNOW THAT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO HELP. THIS NEEDS TO GO HIGHER. MY FORD F150 YEAR 2000 CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED AT MY WORK PLACE. AND IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS.
2000 FORD F150 CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED.*MR A FAULTY SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE TRUCK WAS PARKED OR ABOUT AN HOUR BEFORE IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. *BF *NM
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IT CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL SHORT WITHIN THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY OWNER.*AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY CONSUMER.*AK
1) PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, WE HAD NO UNUSAL PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. FEBRUARY 1, 2005 THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DISCONNECTED PER FORD RECALL. ) FEBRUARY 12, 2005 THE 2000 FORD EXPEDITION WAS TAKEN TO A CAR WASH. WHEN IT REACHED THE END OF THE WASH CYCLE, THE ATTENDANT GOT IN THE VEHICLE TO PULL IT FORWARD AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED (6000 RPM) AND TRAVELLED OFF THE CAR WASH LOT AND OVER A 5 LANE HIGHWAY BEFORE HITTING AN EMBANKMENT AND STOPPING. ) THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED BY THE INSURANCE ADJUSTOR REPRESENTING OUR INSURANCE. OMPANY. BOTH OUR INSURANCE COMPANY AND FORD WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS DEALING WITH THE CAR WASH BUT FORD DID NOT WANT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO EITHER PROVE OR DISPROVE IT WAS A MANUFACTURING ERROR. OUR BELIEF IS THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE THAT IS RELATED TO MANUFACTURING AND THAT FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENED ON FEBRUARY 12TH TO OUR VEHICLE. LIVES WERE IN DANGER.*AK
NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE. MY FORD F150 WAS PARKED IN MY MOTHER'S CARPORT. FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE I HEARD AN EXPLOSION. I LOOKED OUT THE DOOR TO CARPORT. HOOD ON TRUCK HAD POPPED UP AND FLAMES WERE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD, ALREADY TOUCHING THE ROOF OF THE CARPORT. MY MOTHER AND I GOT OUT OF THE HOUSE IMMEDIATELY. I CALLED 911 ON MY CELL PHONE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED QUICKLY. HOWEVER, THE HOUSE SUSTAINED HEAVY FIRE, SMOKE AND WATER DAMAGE THROUGHOUT AND IS UN-LIVABLE. MY MOTHER'S CAR WAS ALSO BURNED COMPLETELY IN THE FIRE. I RECEIVED MY RECALL NOTICE ON FEBRUARY 18TH, ONE WEEK AFTER THE FIRE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS LEAKING AND DID NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. HIS VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL), WHICH HAS BEEN IN EFFECT FOR YEARS. HE WAS CONTINUOUSLY INFORMED THAT THE DEALER HAD NO PARTS AVAILABLE. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. THE STARTER BROKE OFF OF MOUNT CAUSING BOLTS TO BREAK OFF IN TRANSMISSION HOUSING, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE SOLENOID 2 TIMES AND HAD TO KEEP TIGHTENING IT OFF BECAUSE BOLT ON IT BROKE, NOW I HAVE TO FIND SOMEONE TO DRILL THE BROKEN BOLTS OUT & I DO NOT HAVE VERY MUCH MONEY TO GET FIXED , I JUST SPENT $189.00 FOR A STARTER! *JB

MY F150 VIN NUMBER 1FTRX18LOYKA71643 IS INVOLVED IN SAFETY RECALL 05S28 REGARDING THE SPEED SENSOR. EACH MONTH I CALL DEALERS BUT THEY CONTINUE NOT TO HAVE PARTS TO FIX THIS DEFECT. I RECEIVED A NOTICE IN MAY STATING PARTS HAVE BEEN SENT BUT DEALERS ARE OUT. CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY CONFIRM THIS BUT ARE UNABLE TO GET ME ON A LIST TO GET RECALL DONE IN A TIMELY MANNER. *JB

SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF HEAD ON 4.6 LITER 2000 F150 4X4, ALSO BROKE THE COIL PACK ABOVE IT FROM THE EXPLOSION OF THE PLUG BLOWING OUT.*AK
MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT A 2000 FORD F-150. ON FEB 4, 2005 AFTER MY HUSBAND HAD BEEN HOME FOR ABOUT 20 MINS HE NOTICED HIS HORN WAS BLOWING NON-STOP. HE WENT OUTSIDE TO THE TRUCK AND OPENED HIS DOOR AND BLACK SMOKE ROLLED OUT THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. HE POPED THE HOOD AND FLAMES FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE CAME OUT. HE CALLED THE FIRE DEPT BUT THERE WAS NO HOPE. WE HAD ONLY HAD THE TRUCK FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND NOW THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF THE TRUCK EXCEPT THE BED. *AK
THE CONSUMER PARKED THE VEHICLE AT 10:30 AM, AROUND 11:00 THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A FIRE. FIRE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD CRUISE CONTROL AND IT WAS USED ONE TIME WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS FIRST BOUGHT 9 MONTHS AGO. NO STRUCTURE DAMAGE. WILL SEND PHOTOS TO BRUCE YORK. VEHICLE WAS INSURED BY CLAREDON INSURANCE. 305-260-5700.
VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT AND IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE DRIVER CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY.*AK
MY GIRLFRIENDS MOTHER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 40 MPH IN HER 2000 FORD ESCAPE, AND HIT AN ELK. LUCKELY NO HARM WAS DONE TO HER, BUT HER AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF. MY CONCERN IS THAT MAYBE THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE ESCAPES, AND WOULDN'T WANT SOMEONE ELSE TO BE INJURED OR KILLED FROM THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY WHILE DRIVING. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. DROVE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH CABLES WERE BURNED, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK *TT

ON JAN. 25,2005 MY 2000 FORD F150 CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD IN THE LOCATION OF THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN PARKED FOR APR. 3/4 OF AN HOUR. THE TRUCK WAS INSPECTED BY FORD. IT WAS DETERMINED BY THEM THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS AT FAULT. FORD ACCEPTED RESPONSIBILITY AND HAS MADE AN UNACCEPTABLE OFFER TO PURCHASE THE TRUCK FROM ME. *JB

AIR BAGS DEPLOYED ON THEIR OWN WHILE ON THE ROAD. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY CONSUMER.*AK WHILE PLOWING SNOW THE DRIVER'S HORN STARTED TO BLOW THEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE AIR BAG WAS ON FIRE AND WENT LIMP AS QUICKLY AS IT EXPLODED. DUE TO BAGS GOING OFF, CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND THE RIGHT REAR QUARTER OF VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE WHEN HE RAN INTO A PARKED TRUCK. *BF *NM
THE VEHICLE STARTED HOWEVER, I WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT IT INTO GEAR. AFTER THREE CALLS TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, I WAS ADVISED TO SHIFT IT INTO NEUTRAL, START IT THEN SHIFT IT INTO DRIVE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME HOWEVER, THE POWER WINDOWS & WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE NOT WORKING. I HEARD "CLICKING" NOISES COMING FROM THE FUSE BOX. AFTER PLACING IT INTO DRIVE, THE RADIO WOULD NOT WORK. WHEN I PLACED IT IN PARK, THE RADIO STARTED WORKING. WHEN USING THE PANEL/FLOOR DEFROST, I HEARD AN ELECTRICAL SHORTING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. ON 1/23/05, IT WOULD NOT START; ONLY THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON; I WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT IT INTO NEUTRAL; THE ENGINE DID NOT TURN OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO KRIEGER FORD. INITIALLY, I WAS TOLD THAT IT NEEDED A NEW STARTER. AFTER FURTHER TESTING, I WAS ADVISED THAT THE FUSE BOX AND GEM WERE WATER-LOGGED DUE TO WATER LEAKING INTO THEM AS THE RESULT OF A FAULTY SEAL IN THE WINDSHIELD WHICH IS THE ORIGINAL FACTORY INSTALLED WINDSHIELD. I FOUND AN ARTICLE IRONICALLY TITLED "QUALITY IS THE PRIME IMPERATIVE WITH FORD". THE 1ST PARAGRAPH STATES "INSTALLING WINDSHIELDS IN VEHICLES HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PAIN. FIXING WATER LEAKS IS THE LAST THING YOU WANT TO DO IN A VEHICLE ASSEMBLY PLANT". THE 2ND PARAGRAPH STATES "...HAS BROUGHT THE NUMBER OF WINDSHIELD LEAKS SIGNIFICANTLY UNDER 1 PER 20 HOURS OF PRODUCTION..." THE 3RD PARAGRAPH REFERENCES THE WORD "DEFECTS". I WROTE A LENGTHY LETTER DATED 2/5/05 TO THE CEO OF FORD WITH ATTACHMENTS OF THE ARTICLE, ONLINE COMPLAINTS STATING THE SAME PROBLEMS & QUESTIONED THE SEPTEMBER 2004 TIE ROD INSPECTION PROCEDURE MAILED TO ME FROM FORD WITH REGARD TO PREMATURE WEARING AND SEPARATION. I HAD ALSO SPOKEN TO INDIVIDUALS IN FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I PAID KRIEGER FORD OVER $1,000 TO REPLACE THE STARTER (THEIR "QUICK" FIX), REPLACE THE GEM & FUSE BOX & REMOVE & RE-SEAL THE WINDSHIELD. FORD RESPONDED TO MY LETTER BY PLACING ME ON THEIR PROMOTIONAL MAILING LIST. DOCUMENTATION AVAILABLE. *JB
BE ADVISED THIS REPORT IS GIVEN BY THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT: AFTER BEING DISPATCHED TO A FIRE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT VEHICLE WAS PARKED, AND THE CONSUMER WAS UNAWARE OF THE FIRE. THE FIRE WAS CONTAINED IN AN EARLY STAGE, AND MOST OF THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED, MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR INSPECTION IF NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.*AK
WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR AN HOUR VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO EXTINGUSH THE FIRE. THE INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE FIRE ALSO CAUSES SOME DAMAGES TO CONSUMER'S HOME. DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED.*AK
FORD F -150 LARIAT 2000 GOES UP IN FLAMES AT 1:00AM AFTER STANDING STILL FOR 4 HOURS. THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. APPARENTLY THERE IS A RECALL CITING A DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL COMPONENT.*AK
MY TRUCK LOST IT'S CRUISE CONTROL AND ABS LIGHT CAME ON. BEFORE I COULD GET IT LOOKED AT MY F150 FORD CAUGHT ON FIRE IN MY DRIVEWAY.*AK
ON THE 2000 FORD F-150 WITH THE 4.6 LITER ENGINE, A FAILURE OF THE THREADS IN THEIR ALUMINUM CYLINDER HEADS CAUSES THE SPARK PLUG AND COIL-OVER-PLUG TO BECOME DISLODGED AND THREADS STRIPPED. THE CYLINDER HEAD REQUIRES MAJOR REPAIRS TO BECOME SERVICEABLE ONCE MORE. A SIMPLE STEEL SLEEVE (LIKE A "BIG-SERT") INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY WOULD PROBABLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND SAVE MAJOR PROBLEMS FOR THE CONSUMER LATER. ALSO, IF THIS FAILURE WERE TO HAPPEN WHILE VEHICLE WERE IN MOTION, THE SPARK PLUG COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE FUEL RAIL OR AN INJECTOR AND STILL FIRING COULD CAUSE A CATASTROPHIC LOSS AND POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS, INJURY, OR EVEN DEATH. *NM
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE IT WAS PARKED. RESULTS SHOWED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT WITHIN CRUISE CONTROL WIRE. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY OWNER.*AK
THE SOLID REAR WINDOW HAS A SEAL PROBLEM THAT ALLOWS WATER TO ENTER COMPARTMENT. IT IS UNDETERMINED WHY THE SEAL HAS WEAKENED. PLEASE PROVIDE DETAILS. *NM
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR CHECKUP AND RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WAS AFFECTING THE ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY CONSUMER.*AK
WINDSHIELD WIPER ACTIVATES BY ITSELF WHILE DRIVEING.
COLD AIR CHARGE INTERCOOLER IS LEAKING. COULD CAUSE ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO ALLOWING COOLING TO LEAK DIRECTLY INTO COMBUSTION CHAMBERS.
F-150 CAUGHT FIRE AFTER BEING PARKED FOR 1 1/2HOURS. DID DAMAGE TO OUR CAR PARKED NEXT TO IT AND OUR HOUSE. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF ANY DANGER WITH THE VEHICLE OR ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. IT IS OUR UNDERSTANDING THAT CRUISE CONTROLS ON THE F-150'S ARE A PROBLEM, AND WHY HAVE THEY NOT BEEN RECALLED TO PREVENT DAMAGE AND INJURY? IS THERE ANY SIGNIFICANT SIMILAR PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED BY OTHERS?*AK
THE REAR OUTBOARD SEATBELTS DISENGAGE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. FORD HAS ALREADY HAD A RECALL ON THE 2001 EXPEDITION REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER BOTH HAVE REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. DO TO THE SAFETY CONCERNS OF THIS ISSUE AND THE OTHER RECALL FORD SHOULD REPLACE THESE SEATBELT LATCHES. *AK
(1) MY WIFE DROVE OUR 2000 FORD EXPEDITION TO THE GROCERY STORE ON JANUARY 5TH, 2005. WHEN SHE CAME OUT, ABOUT 25 MINUTES LATER, THE FIRE ENGINE HAD ARRIVED AND WAS TRYING TO PUT OUT THE FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. I CONTACTED FORD ONCE IN JAN. '05 AND AGAIN IN FEB. '05 ABOUT THE RECALL ON THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH ON MY 2000 EXPEDITION. THEY SAID I WOULD GET IT IN THE MAIL SHORTLY. ITS BEEN 6 MONTHS AND STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT REPAIRED ASAP AT THEIR COST NOT MINE.

FIRE MARSHALS REPORT NOTED THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. CONSUMERS TRUCK WAS PARKED FOR ABOUT 2 TO 3 HOURS BEFORE FIRE. TRUCK HAD NO MODIFICATIONS NO LEAKS NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE CRUISE CONTROL WHICH QUIT WORKING IN SEPT OR OCT AT 1800 THE TRUCK BURST INTO FLAMES ON LH FRONT FROM UNDER HOOD TRUCK WAS PARKED 3 HOURS TOTALLY COLD TRUCK WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED. *JB
