WHENEVER IT RAINS MY 2001 FORD EXPEDITIONS ELECTRICAL GOES CRAZY, I GET A LEAK FROM WHEAT I AM GUESSING IS THE WINDSHIELD, AND THE FLOOR GETS WET, THEN MY AC RUNS WITHOUT THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION AND MY LIGHTS COME ON AND OFF, THE RADIO GOES ON AND OFF AND KEEPS DRAINING THE BATTERY, TOOK IT TO FORD, BUT ALL THEY SAY IS IT NEEDS A NEW GEM MODULE BUT NEVER SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT THE WINDSHIELD. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVE WAY. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE CAUSE WAS DUE TO THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL AND TOWED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY RECORDS THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AT THEIR LOCATION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. FORD MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY MAILED A RECALL NOTICE TO THE OWNER; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT VERIFIED THAT THE ADDRESS ON FILE WAS INCORRECT. A POLICE REPORT IS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURE STATED THEY WILL NOT REPAIR OR GIVE HER ASSISTANCE WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THE TRUCK WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVE WAY FOR HOURS PRIOR TO CATCHING FIRE. MY FORD F-150 CAUGHT FIRE IN MY DRIVE WAY AND SET MY HOUSE ON FIRE THAT BURNED AND WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *TR
I PURCHASE A USED TRUCK THAT HAD 4 FAIRLY NEW CONTINENTAL CONTITRAC SUV TIRES (P26570R17). THE TREAD WEAR ON ALL 4 TIRES WAS SIMILAR AND VERY LOW, IMPLYING TO ME THAT THE TIRES WERE RELATIVELY NEW. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE, MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE SUFFERED A TOTAL TREAD SEPARATION. AT ABOUT 75 MPH ON A HOT DRY DAY, I HEARD A LOUD ROAR AND AN 'EXPLOSION' FROM THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY THINKING I HAD A BLOWOUT, BUT DISCOVERED THE TIRE WAS STILL FULLY INFLATED BUT HAD COMPLETELY LOST ALL TREAD. I MOVED THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE LOCATION AND INSTALLED THE SPARE. I EXAMINED THE TIRE, AND COULD SEE THAT THE STEEL BELTS WERE STILL INTACT AND APPEARED CLEAN AND NEW. THE LAYERS OF RUBBER THAT SEAL THE BELTS IN WERE VISIBLE, AND IT APPEARED TO ME THAT THE TREAD LAYER HAD SIMPLY NOT ADHERED TO THE CORE. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF A PROBLEM WITH THE OTHER THREE TIRES. I TOOK THE TIRE TO DISCOUNT TIRE CO., WHICH CARRIES CONTINENTAL TIRES, AND THEY SAID CONTINENTAL WOULD ONLY COVER HALF THE REPLACEMENT COST. CONSIDERING THE DANGER OF A TOTAL TREAD SEPARATION LIKE THIS, AND THAT IT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, I'M CONCERNED THAT THE COMPANY (CONTINENTAL) ISN'T SO MUCH AS INCONVENIENCED BY THE FACT THAT THEIR PRODUCT IS CAUSING THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WAS LUCKY, BUT HAD I INSTEAD BEEN ON A CURVE WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATED, I CAN SEE HOW THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN SUBSTANTIALLY LESS FAVORABLE. THE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE WAS MINIMAL, BUT AGAIN, THIS IS MORE LUCK THAN ANYTHING ELSE. JUST GLANCING THROUGH THE LIST OF COMPLAINTS CONCERNING CATASTROPHIC TREAD LOSS ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL OF TIRE, IT'S DIFFICULT NOT TO BE STRUCK BY THE STAGGERING NUMBER OF THEM. I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO SEE THE NHTSA INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER. *JB
MY 2001 FORD F-150 SUPERCREW CAUGHT FIRE SPONTANEOUSLY AFTER SITTING PARKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. *JB
FORD F-150 SUPERCREW 2001: RIGHT TIE ROD BROKE CATASTROPHICALLY (BROKEN SOCKET), RESULTING IN VIOLENT WHEEL OSCILLATION, WITH FRONT TIRE DRAG BRINGING VEHICLE TO A HALT; 20 MPH; NO WARNING; REGULARLY INSPECTED, ~110K MILEAGE. HAD BEEN DRIVING AT 65 MPH WITH FAMILY (5 PASSENGERS) DAY BEFORE TIE ROD BROKE. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED?? SAME VEHICLE, ~130K MILEAGE, DATE 8/27/07. LEFT TIE ROD BROKE CATASTROPHICALLY (BROKEN SOCKET). JUST PULLED INTO REST AREA ON I95 IN CONNECTICUT. TRIED TO BACK UP, WHEELS ANGLED, TOWED, TIE ROD REPLACED. MINUTES BEFORE I WAS TRAVELING 70MPH IN PASSING LANE ON I95. WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED?? VEHICLE NOT USED FOR OFF-ROAD, NO SNOW PLOW, MAINTAINED BY SERVICE STATION REGULARLY. *JB
I HAVE A 2001 FORD F150 LARIAT SUPERCREW WITH THE 5.4 LITER ENGINE. MY FAMILY AND I WERE ON VACATION WHEN THE 3RD SPARKPLUG BACK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE AND LEFT US STRANDED. IT DESTROYED THE COIL IN THE PROCESS AND NICKED THE FUEL RAIL. WE HAD TO HAVE A FORTY MILE TOW TO A MECHANIC WHO COULD PUT IN A HELICOIL TO HOLD THE NEW SPARKPLUG AND ALSO PUT IN A NEW COIL. THIS COST US $600 INCLUDING THE TOW. THIS WAS THE 2ND FORD WITH A 5.4 LITER ENGINE IN A WEEK THAT THIS MECHANIC FIXED WITH A BLOWN SPARKPLUG. THE NEAREST FORD DEALER WANTED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEAD AT MY EXPENSE FOR $3,300 NOT INCLUDING A TOW. THIS TOOK PLACE IN KALISPELL MONTANA. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TO CHECK AND RETIGHTEN AT LEAST ONE OF MY SPARK PLUGS EVERY 3,000 MILES. THE TRUCK HAD APPROXIMATELY 127,000 MILES ON IT WHEN I BLEW MY SPARKPLUG. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN AUGUST OF 2007 FOR THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. HE CALLED FORD FOUR DIFFERENT TIMES SINCE THEN AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE EVERY MONTH THEREAFTER. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE RECALL NUMBER AND PURCHASE DATE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000. REMAILED FORM 04/22/08. *LJ UPDATED 5/20/08 *CN
MY 2001 FORD F-150 CAUGHT ON FIRE AROUND 2:30 A.M. ON AUGUST 5,2007 IT WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVE WAY AND IT HAD NOT BEEN MOVED THAT ENTIRE DAY . WE HAD THE POLICE COME AND MAKE A REPORT ALONG WITH THE FIREFIGHTERS AND THEY TOLD US THAT THE CAUSE HAD BEEN THE DEACTIVATION SWITCH OF THE CRUISE CONTROL THAT MADE THE TRUCK GET ON FIRE. WE HAVE THOSE REPORTS SO WE CONTACTED OUR INSURANCE THEY TOLD US THAT EVEN THOUGH WE HAD FULL COVERAGE THE INSURANCE DID NOT COVER THE DAMAGE THAT WAS CAUSED. SO THEY RECOMMENDED US TO TALK TO FORD TO SEE WHAT THEY COULD DO FOR US. BUT WHEN WE CONTACTED THEM THEY TOOK OUR INFORMATION. THEY REQUESTED PICTURES AND THE REPORTS THAT HAD BEEN MADE WE FAXED THEM TO CARMEN FROM THE FORD CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT. BUT WE NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING BACK FROM THEM THAT IS WHEN WE SENT THEM A LETTER NOTIFYING THEM HOW DISAPPOINTED WE WHERE. THE NEXT DAY CARMEN CONTACTED MY DAUGHTER ELISA RODRIGUEZ AND TOLD HER THAT THEY STILL HADN'T BEEN ABLE TO DO ANYTHING FOR US BUT THAT SHE WOULD LET US KNOW. AS THE DAYS PASSED WE WOULD NOT RECEIVE ANYTHING FROM FORD SO WE WOULD CALL THEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN BUT NOW THEY NOT ONLY DIDN'T GIVE US INFORMATION BUT THEY WOULD NOT RETURN OUR CALLS WE LEFT VARIOUS MESSAGES. BUT THERE WAS NO ANSWER . UNTIL ONE DAY MY DAUGHTER CALLED AND CARMEN FINALLY ANSWERED AND TOLD US THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR US BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO BADLY BURNED IN ORDER TO SEE WHAT HAD CAUSED IT TO GET ON FIRE. BUT FORD NEVER SENT ANYONE TO MAKE INVESTIGATIONS OR A REPORT THEY JUST DIDN'T EVEN TRY TO HELP US IN ANYTHING THEY JUST ASSUMED EVERYTHING THEY SAID . *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR, THE CHROME PLATED DOOR HANDLE CUT HIS LEFT HAND. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE WAS DEFECTIVE DUE TO THE CHROME PEELING. AS OF SEPTEMBER 4, 2007, THE DOOR HANDLE HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED. PAINT PEELING OFF ON BODY. WHITE IN COLOR,NEVER NEGLECTED, ALWAYS WASHED, WAXED ETC. WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED PROBLEM. CONTACTED FORD MANY TIMES AND ALWAYS GET TOLD THEY WILL DO NOTHING BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THEY THEN TOLD ME THEY HAVE UPGRADED MANY THINGS ON THEIR NEW TRUCKS AND SHOULD CONSIDER GETTING A NEW ONE. I DOUBT I WILL EVER GET ANOTHER FORD IF THEY CAN MESS UP SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS PAINT. THIS IS A FORD DEFECT AND THEY SHOULD BE FORCED TO FIX IT. I HAVE A CAR THAT IS 10 YEARS OLDER THAN MY FORD AND THE PAINT LOOKS BETTER. *TR

AS OF AUGUST 3, 2007, THE DEALER HAS NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD SEND A LETTER TO THE CONTACT WITHIN TWO WEEKS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 119,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. ON JULY 27, 2007, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A FIRE AND POLICE REPORT WERE FILED. THE FIRE MARSHALL STATED THAT THE FIRE BEGAN IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE PASSENGER SIDE FENDER OF ANOTHER PARKED VEHICLE WAS SCORCHED DUE TO THE FIRE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 80,000. 2001 FORD F150 CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. CONSUMER STATES THAT SHE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH. CONSUMER WOULD LIKE THE TRUCK TO BE REPLACED. SHE STATES THAT THE INSURANCE IS BEING OF NO ASSISTANCE. *KB
I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 FORD SVT LIGHTNING, WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. NO SIGN OF A PROBLEM WHATSOEVER. WHILE PASSING A BIG TRUCK, POP........AND THEN I LOST POWER AND ALMOST DIDN'T COMPLETE THE PASS IN TIME. ONCE I PULLED OVER, I FOUND THAT A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT, AND TOOK OUT A COIL ON IT'S WAY. THE FORD DEALER WANTS BIG MONEY FOR THE REPAIR (NEW HEADS), AND I CAN'T AFFORD IT RIGHT NOW. I'VE FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, AND FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. MY PLUGS ARE ORIGINAL, SO NOTHING WAS DONE BY ME TO CONTRIBUTE TO THIS FAILURE. NOW MY TRUCK IS SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY, AND IT CAN'T BE DRIVEN. HOPE MY OTHER FORDS DON'T SPIT OUT A PLUG. *TR
DURING ~55,000 MILE BRAKE CHECKUP IT WAS FOUND THAT BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS ON MY 2001 FORD TAURUS ARE BROKEN, SEEMINGLY IN THE SAME PLACE. PARTS ARE BEING REPLACED BY LOCAL SERVICE CENTER. *TR

WAS CRUISING IN MY FORD LIGHTNING, WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP AND THEN SOUNDED LIKE MY ENGINE WAS RUNNING OFF THE HEADERS. PULLED OVER AND HAD TO CATCH A TOW TRUCK, TO THE SHOP. THEY TOLD ME MY SPARK PLUG HAD SHOT OUT OF THE HEAD. $1,100 BUCKS LATER IT IS BACK IN THE SHOP NOW AND HAVING THE ENTIRE MOTOR PULLED COST NOT KNOWN BUT APPROXIMATELY 5-10 GRAND... *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CUT IN FRONT OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DEALER HAS NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 118,809.
ON TUESDAY MORNING, 05/29/2007 AT 1:30AM, I WAS AWAKENED BY A LOUD BOOM AND A BRIGHT FLASH FROM OUTSIDE OF MY BEDROOM WINDOW. WHEN I JUMPED UP TO SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING, I SAW MY TRUCK ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I GRABBED MY CELL PHONE FROM BESIDE MY BED AND DIALED 911 AS I RAN TO THE FRONT PORCH. BY THE TIME I REACHED THE FRONT PORCH THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED, THE HOOD WAS COMPLETELY GONE AND THE FRONT TIRES WERE ON FIRE. WHEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED, THE TRUCK WAS ON FIRE FROM THE FRONT BUMPER TO THE REAR BUMPER. THE INSIDE OF THE TRUCK WAS COMPLETELY IN FLAMES AND ALL OF THE WINDOW GLASS HAD EITHER MELTED OR BEEN BLOWN AWAY FROM THE TRUCK BODY. IT WAS DETERMINED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT THAT THE FIRE BEGAN INSIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *TR
AFTER DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ABOUT 5 MILES THE TRUCK WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVE WAY ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER I HAD A NEXT STORE NEIGHBOR KNOCKING ON MY DOOR STATING THAT MY TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME TO PUT IT OUT. A NEIGHBOR ALSO TOLD ME OF A RECALL ON THE TRUCK DUE TO TRUCK FIRES AND I WENT ONLINE AND NOTICED THAT THE RECALL STARTED BEFORE IT WAS BOUGHT FROM A FORD DEALERSHIP AFTER LOOKING INTO IT THE RECALL WAS NOT DONE BEFORE THE PURCHASE WAS MADE EVEN THOUGH THEY KNEW OF THE SITUATION. I WAS ALSO NOT NOTIFIED FROM FORD THROUGH ANY MEANS OF ANY RECALL NEEDED ON THE TRUCK ITS SELF BEFORE OR EVEN AFTER THE INCIDENT. *TR
2001 EXCURTION STALLED AT 45 MPH VERY SCARY EXPERIANCE NO POWER AND BREAK WAS NOT WORKING PROPRELY.......WASTED $550 BETWEEN JEFFY LUBE CHANGING ALL FLUIDS AND FILTERS AND THE SAME AT MY LOCAL GARAGE.....PROBLEN STILL CONTINUED ...KEPT STALLING FOR NO APPARENT REASON....FUSTRATED WENT INTO THE NET AND FOUND OUT ABOUT THE FAMOUS "CAM POSITIONING SENSOR" INSTALLED A NEW ONE AND NOW BABY IS RUNNING FINE.....NOW THE PROBLEM IS THAT, THIS CAN HAPPEN AGAIN WITHOUT ANY NOTICE AND ON A HEAVY VHEICLE LIKE THIS .....IT IS A VERY SCARY PROPOSITION!!!.....I LOVE MY EXCURTION AND FORD SHOULD MAKE A SENSOR THAT IS MORE DURABLE AND FIX THIS PROBLEM.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN MINUTES AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED FIRE ASCENDING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIREFIGHTER STATED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED DUE TO A DEFECT ON THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. THERE IS RECALL # 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT FILED A REPORT WITH THE POLICE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 65,000.
MAY 12TH 2006 MY 2001 FORD F-150 CAUGHT FIRE IN MY MOTHER'S GARAGE AND BURNED THE TRUCK TOTALLY UP AND THE FIRE RESULTED IN MY MOTHER'S HOUSE BEING A TOTAL LOSS. *TR
01 F150 SUPERCREW 5.4L WITH LESS THAN 41,000 MILES. RIGHT REAR SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF HEAD ALSO BREAKING COIL MOUNTING BRACKET. DEALER REMOVED ENGINE TO ATTEMPT REPAIR AND FOUND SPARK PLUG HOLE WOULD NOT ACCEPT HELI-COIL. IN PROCESS AT THIS TIME TRYING TO LOCATE A NEW HEAD. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND WITH LESS THAN 41,000 MILES, HOW WAS THIS POSSIBLE! I HAVE BEEN A FORD DRIVER MOST OF MY LIFE. BUT I WILL THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING ANOTHER FORD. THIS PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL. *AK

I EXITED ON I-75 ONTO SR 200, TRAVELED 100 FEET APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, HEARD POPPING SOUND LIKE BASEBALL CARD IN SPOKES OF A BICYCLE WHEEL. HAPPENED SATURDAY NIGHT WHILE BRINGING MY SON HOME FROM COLLEGE. COST $75 TO TOW HOME TO UNLOAD THE 2001 F150 5.4 LITER V-8. $75 TO TOW TO FORD OF OCALA, BELLEVIEW, WHO DIAGNOSED BLOWN #3 PLUG, CHARGED $98, THEN $75 TOW TO FORD OF OCALA IN OCALA TOLD $4000 TO REPLACE HEAD OR $6000 TO REPLACE ENGINE. THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THIS FAULTY HEAD AND PLUG DESIGN. FORD SHOULD BE MADE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM SINCE REPLACING EITHER THE HEAD OR ENGINE WITH THE SAME FAULTY FORD PRODUCT WAS NOT AN OPTION TO ME. I OWN A 2001 FORD F150 SUPERCREW TRUCK. THIS VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AND IS A TOTAL LOSS. THE FIRE CAPTAIN TOLD ME THAT THIS VEHICLE IS NOTORIOUS FOR CATCHING FIRE AND I SHOULD REPORT THIS INCIDENT. ON APRIL 21,2007 MY 2001 F150 WAS SITTING IN THE FRONT YARD AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES THAT MORNING AND STARTED A FIRE. IN NO TIME THE TRUCK WAS A TOTAL LOSE. WOKE UP TO IN THE EARLY MORNING TO TRUCK ALARM ACTIVATED. WHEN GOING OUT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED THE TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES IN THE ENGINE AREA. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED. THE TRUCK WAS SITTING ALL NIGHT. AND HADN'T BEEN DRIVEN SINCE 3:30 PM THE PREVIOUS DAY.*AK
SPARK PLUG # 7 BLEW OUT OF THE FORD F-150 TRUCK WITH A V8 MOTOR. THE PLUG AND COIL STUCK THE FUEL RAIL ABOVE THIS AREA , AND TOOK A CHUNK OF THE FUEL RAIL OUT, ALMOST CRATING A LEAK , VEHICLE COULD CATCH ON FIRE. OVER 100,000 REPORTS ON THE EXACT SAME SPARK PLUG ALONG WITH # 3 PLUG DOING THE SAME THING WITH THE FUEL RAIL ALSO. USUALLY THE OTHER PLUG BLEW A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE FIRST ONE BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE. REPAIRS WERE TO PULL THE HEADER ,AND DRILL HOLE IN HEADER TO INSTALL A COIL TO REPLACE THREADS TORN ON THE HEAD, AND INSTALL A NEW PLUG DUE TO BLOW OUT AND COIL. *AK
MY WINDSHIELD LEAKED AND FRIED MY COMPUTER AND MY FUSE BOX. THERE WAS A LEAK ON THE WINDSHIELD THAT WAS NOT VISIBLE AND RAN DOWN INTO MY ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS THEREFORE IT FRIED THEM. *JB
A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF MY FORD F-150. DID NOT KNOW UNTIL RECENTLY THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURS A LOT IN FORD TRUCK MOTORS. ENGINE DOES NOT REALLY RUN NOW BECAUSE IT WOULD PROBABLY CATCH ON FIRE FROM EXHAUST FLAMES. I OWN A 2001 FORD F150 IT HAS 36,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE TAKEN GREAT CARE OF THE TRUCK, BUT AS OF LAST WEEK AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OF THE TRUCK NOT STARTING. I WAS INFORMED THE COMPUTER NEEDED REPLACED AND TWO COIL PACKS. AND QUOTE" DOES HAVE A TRANSMISSION CONCERN." AFTER WAITING 13 DAYS TO GET MY TRUCK I DIDN'T WANT THEM TO DO ANYMORE AND I WOULD PICK THE TRUCK UP. I DIDN'T GET TWO BLOCKS AND THERE WAS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. I TOOK IT TO A INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP AND ASKED THEM TO CHANGE THE FLUID AND FILTER AND IF THEY SAW ANY PROBLEMS TO GIVE ME A CALL. A FEW HOURS LATER THEY CALLED AND SAID THEY FOUND BALL BEARINGS AND DEBRIS IN THE TRANSMISSION PAN, INFORMED ME THAT IT SHOULD BE REBUILT. I INFORMED THEM TO GO AHEAD REBUILD AND TO SAVE ALL PARTS. THEY FIRST TEST DROVE THE TRUCK TO SEE IF ANY COMPUTER CODES WOULD SHOW UP. NONE DID, BUT THEY DID NOTICE IT DROPPING UP AND DOWN IN GEARS. SO IT WAS OBVIOUSLY A MECHANICAL PROBLEM TO THEM. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT THEY FOUND THAT A NEEDLE BEARING HAD BLOWN UP IN THE PLANETARY GEAR SET. AND HAD INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. FORD SHOULD OWN UP TO PROBLEM AND PAY FOR ANY AND ALL REPAIRS. THE TOTAL REBUILD COST WAS $1943.75 SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN WITH A TRUCK WITH ONLY 36,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH IN DRY CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. INITIALLY, THE CONTACT THOUGHT A TIRE WAS BLOWN AND PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE IN NORMAL CONDITION, BUT THE SCENT OF GAS WAS DETECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC, WHO DISCONNECTED THE FUEL INJECTOR TO THE NUMBER SEVEN CYLINDERS, SO THE VEHICLE COULD BE DRIVEN HOME. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL SHOP CLOSER TO HOME, AND WAS CHARGED $1,863 FOR REMOVING BOTH HEADS, AND HAD THE MACHINE FLAT AT THE NUMBER SEVEN CYLINDER. THE FORD MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, AND STATED THAT THE CONTACT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENGINE REPAIR. FORD - SPARK PLUG DEFECT. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERST A SPARK PLUG POPPED OUT OF ITS SOCKET AND BROKE THE SPARK PLUG COIL. I WAS IN TH MIDDLE OF HEAVY TRAFFIC AN WS VERY SCARED BECAUSE I COULD NOT INITIALLY PULL OVER DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF TRUCKS ON THE HIGWAY.I WAS BOXED IN. AFTER I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD I OPENED THE HOOD AN FOUND A SPARK PLUG STUCK TO A PIECE OF PLASTIC MELTED TO IT DUE TO THE HEA). I ALSO OUNDTHE SPARK PLUG COIL, WITH THE SPRING HANGING OUT OF THE RUBBER INSULATOR, SPAKING AGAINST ANOTHER PIEC OF PLASTIC.*AK I FEEL THE IS AN EXTREME DANGER BECAUSE: 1. I COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON THE FREEWAY. 2. THE SPARK PLUG COIL COULD HAVE SHOCKED MEOR EVEN STARTED SOMETHING ON FIRE. AFTER RESEARCHINGTHE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, I SEE THAT MORE AND MORE INCIDENTS EXACTLY LIKE E ARE HAPPENING EVERY DAY. FORD REFUSES TO ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEMEVEN THOUGH THEY CHANGED THE DESIGN IN 2004 AND THEPROBEM DOESN'T EXIT WITH SPARK PLUGS ANYMORE. WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED. MY 2001 FORD F-150 TRUCK HAD A SPARK PLUG EJECT FROM THE CYLINDER AND HIT THE FUEL RAIL WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY ON 9-1-06 (70,000 MILES ON ODOMETER). I HAD THE TRUCK HAULED TO NEAREST SERVICE CENTER WHERE THEY FIXED THE CYLINDER WITH A REPAIR KIT MADE FOR THIS PROBLEM. ON 2-26-07 AT 79 THOUSAND MILES ANOTHER PLUG EJECTED WITH THE SAME CONSEQUENCE. NOW THE ENTIRE HEAD HAS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $3600 TO ME. *JB
I WAS DRIVING FROM SANTA BARBARA TO LOMPOC ALONG HIGHWAY 1 AROUND 6:30 P.M. WHEN I FIRST SMELLED SMOKE THINKING THERE WAS A BRUSH FIRE, BUT QUICKLY IT STARTED TO SMELL LIKE ELECTRICAL BURNING. LOOKING AROUND THE TRUCK FOR THE SMELL WHILE DRIVING I LOOKED OUT THE SIDE MIRROR TO MAKE SURE NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME, ONLY TO SEE SPARKS OR SMALL EMBERS FLYING FROM MY TRUCK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE I JUMPED OUT OF THE TRUCK AND PULLED MY TOOL BOX AWAY FROM THE BED TO SEE IF SOMETHING IN THE BACK BED WAS ON FIRE. I COULD ONLY SEE FLAMES UNDERNEATH BETWEEN THE BED AND THE CAB. FEARING EXPLOSION I RAN TO CALL 911 FROM MY CELL PHONE. WITHIN MINUTES MY TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. NOTHING LEFT BUT A BIG PILE OF METAL. TOOLS, AND GOLF CLUBS, GONE. *JB

I TOOK MY 2001 FORD F150 TO HAVE A TIRE REPAIRED, ASSUMING IT HAD A NAIL IN IT BECAUSE IT HAD A SLOW LEAK. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE (ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT) ALUMINUM WHEEL HAD A CRACK IN IT. I WAS FURTHER INFORMED THAT THIS IS CONSIDERED TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD'S ALUMINUM WHEELS OF THAT VINTAGE. *JB
