THERE AREN'T ANY REAL EVENTS LEADING TO THE FAILURE. I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP (GARY CROSSLEY FORD) TO HAVE THE SPEED CONTROL RECALL WORK DONE. WHILE THERE I ASKED TO HAVE A STATE INSPECTION DONE AS WELL. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT WERE SOMEWHAT LOOSE AND WOULD NEED REPLACING - SO I HAD THEM DO THAT AS WELL AS FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION AS WELL (THIS TRUCK ONLY HAD 62,000 MILES ON IT). FOLLOWING THAT IT PASSED INSPECTIONS - ALL WAS WELL. NOT EVEN ONE MONTH LATER (POSSIBLY ONLY 3 WEEKS) I TRIED BACKING FROM MY PARKING SPOT AT WORK AND HEARD A *THUNK* FROM THE REAR END. NOT SURE WHAT IT WAS I BACKED UP MORE AND HEARD IT AGAIN. PUT THE TRUCK IN DRIVE AND THERE WAS A RUBBING NOISE FROM UNDERNEATH. I PARKED IT AND CALLED A TOW RIG TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER. UPON HEARING FROM THEM THE FOLLOWING DAY I WAS TOLD THE CARRIER BEARING IN THE REAR END HAD "EXPLODED" AND I'D NEED TO REPLACE MOST EVERYTHING IN THE REAR END. AGREED TO HAVE THE WORK DONE. GOT A CALL A DAY LATER TELLING ME THAT PROBLEM WAS FIXED, BUT THERE WAS ANOTHER - THE *THUNKING* WAS STILL THERE AND WAS LIKELY THE TRANSMISSION. HAD THEM CHECK AND SURE ENOUGH, IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. FINDING OUT THAT FORD WAS GOING TO "COVER" PART OF THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR MADE ME WONDER IF THERE WEREN'T UNDERLYING PROBLEMS THAT I WAS NOT, AS AN OWNER, ALERTED TO. THE TRUCK NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BEFORE THESE, AND I'VE BEEN VERY UNCOMFORTABLE WITH IT SINCE. *TR
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD POPPING SOUND SIMILAR TO A TRUCK BACK FIRING. THE MECHANIC STATED THE SPARK PLUG AND COILS WERECAUSING THE FAILURE. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED ON 2 PREVIOUS OCCASIONS. THE RECENT FAILURE THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR BY CHANGING THE SPARK PLUGS, THE DAMAGEWAS MORE ADVANCED AND COSTLY. MOST FORD TRUCKS EXPERIENCED THIS FAILURE AT 8 YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED, AND WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 93000.*AK

NO INCIDENTS LEADING TO THE FAILURE PASSENGER SEATBELT RELEASES ON ITS OWN WHILE DRIVING HAPPENS CONSISTENTLY WHILE DRIVING THE BELT RETRACTS NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO REPAIR THIS OTHER THAN A THOROUGH CLEANING OF THE MECHANISM. *TR
I OWN A 2001 FORD F-150. ON DECEMBER 16,2006 IT CAUGHT FIRE AND IS NOW CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS BY OUR INSURANCE COMPANY. IT HAS COMPLETELY BURNED TO THE GROUND. ONLY THE SHELL OF THE VEHICLE AND THE TWO FLAT REAR TIRES ARE LEFT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY AT THIS TIME HAS NOT TOLD ME THE REASON THIS HAS HAPPENED. ON DEC. 16TH MY FIANCE HAD DRIVEN IT INTO TOWN THAT MORNING AND RETURNED HOME AND PARKED IT IN THE YARD NEXT TO OUR MOBILE HOME. HE ARRIVED BACK AT HOME AT ABOUT 9:30 AM. HE TOOK ANOTHER VEHICLE DOWN TO OUR NEIGHBORS HOUSE TO DO SOME WORK ON IT AND ABOUT 2:00 PM SOMEONE ELSE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD CAME TO GET HIM SAYING HIS TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAID THE FIRE DID START IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE OUR SIDING ON OUR HOUSE WAS MELTED AND WE HAD A MOTOR HOME PARKED IN FRONT OF IT ALSO THAT HAD SOME DAMAGE TO IT. IF IT WAS A WINDY DAY THE FLAMES WOULD HAVE REACHED THE HOUSE AND IT WOULD HAVE BURNT TO THE GROUND. WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TRUCK BEFORE THIS HAD HAPPENED. NOW THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED I HAVE HEARD OF PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT OTHER TRUCK FIRES AND HAVE FOUND OTHER INCIDENTS OF THIS HAPPENING WHILE DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET. THIS IS HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS SITE AND I THOUGHT I SHOULD REPORT OUR FIRE. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELTS WOULD NOT LATCH. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER OR A MECHANIC TO HAVE THE SEAT BELTS INSPECTED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,000.
WINDSHIELD LEAK ON 2001 F150 HAS LEAKED INTO GEM MODULE AND FUSE BOX. NOW IN SHOP FOR SECOND TIME FORD DEALER WILL NOW REPLACE WINDSHIELD AND OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. FIRST TRIP TO SHOP THEY SAID IT WAS THE BATTERY. I PAID FOR THAT AND THE TOWING CHARGE. A BIT OF INTERNET SEARCHING LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS A WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH FORD TRUCKS AND SUVS. ODI HAS LOOKED INTO THIS BEFORE. *JB
I HAD AN ORIGINAL SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT OF MY FORD F-150 V-8 TRITON MOTOR WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. IT MADE A LOUD POP NOISE AND THEN I SEEN A FLAME I PULLED OVER RIGHT AWAY AND SHUT OFF THE TRUCK AND CALLED FOR HELP. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT HURT AND THE FIRE WENT OUT AND DID NOT BURN THE TRUCK TO THE GROUND. FORD REFUSED TO FIX IT THEY SAID IT WAS NOT A LUBRICATED PART AND MY WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER THE $2000-3000.00 REPAIR. IT IS A DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND THEY KNOW IT BUT ARE NOT ALLOWED TO FIX IT UNDER THE WARRANTY'S. *TR
IN 2006 I WAS IN A REAR END COLLISION WHERE I WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND AND FORCED INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND WE WERE FORCED INTO A THIRD VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US. IT RESULTED IN SEVERAL PEOPLE BEING SENT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH SERIOUS INJURIES. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TWO VEHICLES AND MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY! I HAD A BROKEN RIB FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND SEVERE WHIPLASH RESULTING IN A SURGERY THAT LEFT ME IN SERIOUS LIFE LONG PAIN. THE SURGERY CONSISTED OF 12 PINS, 10 SCREWS, 4CADAVOR DISKS AND FUSION OF 5 LEVELS OF MY NECK. MY DRIVERS AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND I BELIEVE IF IT HAD WORKED PROPERLY I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SO SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE VEHICLE HIT ME FROM BEHIND AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AS I WAS AT A STOP IN A ON THE HIGHWAY. THE IMPACT FORCED ME INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE ESTIMATED SPEED OF THE VEHICLE THAT HIT ME FROM BEHIND WAS BETWEEN 65 AND 75 MPH.
ON OCTOBER 27, 2006 I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 FORD F-150 PICKUP DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR. ALL OF A SUDDEN WE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND PULLED OVER. UPON INSPECTION MY HUSBAND NOTICED THAT THE NUMBER 3 SPARK PLUG AND COIL PACK HAD BEEN EJECTED FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD. HE ALSO NOTICED THAT IT HAD CAUSED A SIZEABLE DENT IN THE FUEL INJECTOR RAIL. THE RAIL/FUEL LINE WHICH PROVIDES FUEL UNDER PRESSURE TO THE INJECTORS IS MADE OF STEEL. THE COIL PACK ALTHOUGH THE MOUNTING POINT WAS BROKEN OFF REMAINED PLUGGED IN AND FUNCTIONING. THE SPARK PLUG ALSO REMAINED IN TACT AND APPEARED UNDAMAGED. THE SPARK PLUG STILL RESTING IN THE SPARK PLUG BOOT MANAGED TO FIND A GROUND VERY NEAR IF NOT ON THE DENTED FUEL RAIL. THIS WAS EVIDENT BY THE FACT THAT IT CONTINUED SPARKING AS THE MOTOR SAT AND IDLED AS WE TRIED TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY SORT OF FUEL LEAK OR HAD IT RAN LONGER SPARKING AGAINST THE FUEL RAIL, I SUSPECT A FIRE COULD HAVE RESULTED. A RATHER SERIOUS FIRE CONSIDERING THE FUEL IN THE RAIL IS UNDER PRESSURE. ADMITTEDLY THIS MAY BE A VERY UNLIKELY SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES. HOWEVER IN CHECKING ON THE INTERNET THE SPARK PLUG EJECTION SEEM TO BE COMMON AND THE DENTED FUEL RAIL NOT UNCOMMON. THE COIL PACK CONTINUING TO FIRE SEEMS LIKELY AS THE CONNECTION TO THE WIRING HARNESS SEEMS QUITE SECURE. IT ALSO SEEMS THAT THE STEEL FUEL RAIL IS A VERY CONVENIENT GROUND. NOT ONLY DID THIS HAPPEN ONCE NO IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON JANUARY 19, 2007. FORD REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE A PROBLEM WITH THE CYLINDER HEAD AND CHARGES $3000 TO REPLACE THE HEAD AND ALL OF IT INTERNAL COMPONENTS EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS. FORD BLAMES THIS PROBLEM ON THE SPARK PLUG I CAN ASSURE YOU THE SPARK PLUG WAS COMPLETELY IN TACT AND SPARKING NOT IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER MIND YOU BUT AGAINST A STEEL FUEL LINE. FORD RECOMMENDS THAT YOU CHANGE THE SPARK PLUGS AT 100,000 MILES MY TRUCK WAS ONLY AT 80,000. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH THROUGH A LIGHT, AND MAKING A LEFT TURN UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD A POP COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. AFTER PULLING OVER TO INSPECT UNDER THE HOOD, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE THIRD SPARK PLUG HAD POPPED OUT OF PLACE FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO WOULD NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER DEALER VIA REFERENCE FROM THE WARRANTY COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING EVALUATED BY THE DEALER, AWAITING THE RESULTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DENIED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE RECALL LIST AND THEREFORE WOULD NOT PROVIDE FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT NOTICED CONSUMER COMPLAINTS VIA WEBSITE SIMILAR TO THE PROBLEMS THE VEHICLE HAD. ONE SIMILAR COMPLAINT WAS ODI #10033248.
I WENT FISHING ONE EARLY MORNING AND I STOPPED FOR GAS AND NOTICED THAT MY LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I NORMALLY KEEP THE SWITCH IN THE AUTO-DETECT MODE. I SWITCHED TO OFF AND THEY STILL WOULD NOT TURN OFF. AFTER GETTING TO THE DOCK, I TURNED OFF THE MOTOR AND LOCKED IT. MY F-150'S HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF AND WOULD BLINK ON AND OFF. THE SWITCH WOULD NOT WORK, NOR DID LOCKING THE VEHICLE TURN OFF THE LIGHTS. I EXPECTED THE BATTERY SAVER WOULD ACTIVATE TO TURN OFF THE EXTERIOR LAMPS. IT ALSO FAILED. THE BATTERY DIED AND I HAD TO BE TOWED INTO THE DEALER. DEALER STATES IT WAS A WIRING HARNESS (#12, #160 AND #161) THAT SHORTED A RELAY AND KILLED THE BATTERY. THE PARTS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. PARTS AND LABOR WERE $612. *NM
ODOMETER LIGHT GOES OUT WHEN IT WANTS AND ON WHEN IT WANTS. *NM
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, NOT RUNNING. I HAVE LIABILITY INSURANCE ONLY...DIDN'T THINK THERE WAS ANY REASON I WOULD REPORT IT TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY. TRUCK WAS DESTROYED...LUCKILY MY BROTHER AWOKE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND SAW THE TRUCK ON FIRE. THE TRUCK WAS PARKED LESS THAN A FOOT AWAY FROM THE HOUSE. MY BROTHER WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITHOUT GETTING HURT. I CONSIDERED IT A MIRACLE NO ONE WAS HURT. *NM

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. AN ADDITIONAL VEHICLE PARKED NEXT TO THE TRUCK AND PART OF THE CONTACT'S HOUSE WAS ALSO DAMAGED FROM THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND VERIFIED THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED A RECALL NOTICE WAS NEVER RECEIVED. UPDATED 10/17/2006 - *NM
AT APPROXIMATELY 9:30 PM, WHILE TRAVELING NORTH ON I-81 NEAR WINCHESTER, VA AT 65 MPH IN A 2001 FORD F-150, THE LEFT REAR TIRE SUSTAINED TREAD SEPARATION. THE TIRE DID NOT DEFLATE. VEHICLE YAWED ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC, BUT WAS BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL AND DID NOT ROLL OVER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE TIRE WAS B.F. GOODRICH MODEL RADIAL LONG TRAIL T/A P235/70R16 AND WAS AN ORIGINAL TIRE ON THE VEHICLE. IT HAD OVER 0.2 OF AN INCH OF TREAD REMAINING AFTER 50,000 MILES. VEHICLE SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL WELL, SIDE PANEL, AND SUPPORTS. THE REMAINING FOUR TIRES (INCLUDING SPARE) ARE BEING REPLACED. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING ANY SPEED ON VARIOUS ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THERE WAS A LOSS OF ALL POWER WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL PROVIDED AN INCORRECT DIGITAL DISPLAY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT RELEASED INTERMITTENTLY. THERE WAS A RECALL, #01V227001, REGARDING THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY RECEIVED IN JULY 2001. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR THE RECALL REPAIR, UPON INSPECTION; THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE REPAIR DID NOT NEED TO BE DONE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, WHO EXPRESSED THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED.

THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING UNUSUAL ABOUT THE WAY THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING BEFORE THE FIRE STARTED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND DETERMINED THAT THE FIRE WAS ELECTRICAL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND EXPRESSED THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY WOULD HANDLE THE CASE ONCE A CLAIM WAS SUMMITTED. ON 09/08/06, THE CONTACT FOUND THE RECALL INFORMATION ON THE FORD FIRES WHILE SEARCHING THE INTERNET. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL #05V388000 (FORD RECALL #05S28) PERTAINING TO THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE AND THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED BOTH FRONT ANTI-LOCK WHEEL SPEED SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. THE CONSUMER TRADED THE VEHICLE. FORD F150 CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED WHILE SITTING IN PARKING LOT DUE TO RECALL OF CRUISE CONTROL - OUTCOME PENDING. *NM
SPARK PLUGS BLOW OFF THE ALUMINUM HEADS. *NM
SOFT ALUMINUM HEADS ALLOWING SPARKPLUG THREADS TO WALLOW OUT AND SHOOT THEM OUT HEAD LIKE A RIFLE AND BREAKING COIL MOUNT AND SINCE FUEL STILL BEING SQUIRTED IN IT IS EJECTED INTO A HOT ENGINE MANIFOLD THAT COULD IGNITE THE FUEL AIR MIXTURE AND CAUSE A FIRE. HAPPENED IN MOTION ON CITY STREET. FORD IS ADDLE IF THEY THINK THEY CAN PASS IT ON TO THE CONSUMER UNSCATHED!
I TOOK MY 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN OUR FORD F150 SUPERCAB LARIAT TRUCK AND WENT TO A RESTAURANT ABOUT 5 MINUTES FROM OUR HOME. WE RETURNED HOME WITH TAKE OUT, PARKED THE TRUCK IN THE DRIVEWAY, OUR GARAGE DOOR OPENER WAS NOT WORKING. I JOINED MY WIFE FOR DINNER (ABOUT 7:00 PM). MY DAUGHTER WENT TO BED AT ABOUT 8:30, MY WIFE ABOUT 9:30. AT ABOUT 10:00 I WENT OUTSIDE WITH THE DOGS IN THE BACKYARD AND HEARD A POP SOUND LIKE A FIRE CRACKER. I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THE NEIGHBOR KIDS WERE PLAYING WITH FIREWORKS, BUT IT SOUNDED PRETTY CLOSE TO THE HOUSE ON THE GARAGE SIDE. WHEN I LOOKED IN THAT DIRECTION I SAW AN ORANGE GLOW. I WENT AROUND THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE AND SAW MY TRUCK ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I RAN INTO THE HOUSE, CALLED MY WIFE TO GET UP, GET OUR DAUGHTER, GET OUT OF THE HOUSE AND CALL 911. 911 TOLD US TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE AND AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE. WE EVACUATED OUR HOME W/ OUR DOGS IN TOW AND WE ALL PROCEEDED TO WATCH IN HORROR (WITH THE ENTIRE SUBDIVISION) AS THE TRUCK WENT UP IN FLAMES AND SMOKE, NOT KNOWING IF THE HOUSE WOULD BE NEXT. UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES MY TRUCK WOULD HAVE BEEN PARKED IN THE GARAGE. MY DAUGHTER'S BEDROOM IS RIGHT ABOVE. THE FIRE CHIEF SAID WE WOULD HAVE LOST OUR HOUSE NO QUESTION AND VERY POSSIBLY OUR LIVES IF THE TRUCK WAS IN THE GARAGE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS BEEN OUT TO LOOK AT THE TRUCK; IT'S DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. EVERYTHING FROM THE FRONT END THROUGH THE CAB IS BURNED UP OR A MESS OF METAL, PLASTIC, ETC. MELTED ON MY DRIVEWAY. WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN A FIGURE FOR THE TRUCK AND ASKED TO SETTLE. NO FURTHER DISCUSSION AS TO THE DAMAGE TO MY WIFE'S CAR, THE BOAT, AND RUINED CONCRETE DRIVE. 1 - WAS DRIVING FROM TUCSON, AZ TO MY UNCLE'S FUNERAL IN RIVERSIDE, CA. OUTSIDE EL CENTRO, CA PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD ON MY 2001 FORD F150 SUPERCREW 4X4. I ATTEMPTED TO PUT ANOTHER PLUG IN BUT THE THREADS WERE GONE FROM THE HEAD SO I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOOK TWO DAYS TO REPAIR SO COST ME A DAY OF WORK AND MY KIDS AN EXTRA DAY OF SCHOOL. THE DID A HELICOIL REPAIR AT A COST OF $498. *JB

ON JULY 17 2006 I ARRIVED AT WORK AND PARKED MY 2001 FORD F150 PU NEAR THE COUNTRY CLUB WHERE I WORK. I WENT INSIDE AND WAS IN THE CLUB FOR APPROX 10 MIN WHEN A FELLOW EMPLOYEE CAME RUNNING INSIDE AND SAID MY PU WAS ON FIRE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE FIRE DEPT. WHILE SOME OF THE OTHER EMPLOYEES TRIED HELPING ME PUT THE FIRE OUT. I HAD NO TYPE OF WARNING THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS WOULD HAPPEN. I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY PU UNTIL THIS MOMENT. MY PU WAS TOTALED AND NOW I HAVE NOTHING.THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN ALOT WORSE IF I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD FELLOW EMPLOYEES THERE TO HELP ME OUT. THE CLUB COULD HAVE CAUGHT A FIRE OR SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN REALLY HURT.
CRUISE CONTROL AFTER THE MANUFACTURER REP REPLACED THE PARTS FOR THE RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE . THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING WHEN MY WIFE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY HAD DONE TO CAUSE THIS PROBLEM AND THEY COULD RUN A CHECK ON IT FOR $30.00 AND LET HER KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG. 1 MONTH AGO MY 2001 F150 WOULD NOT CRANK. I CHECKED THE FUSE AND THE #6 FUSE (5 AMP) HAD BLOWN. I REPLACED IT WITH A NEW 5 AMP FUSE AND IT BLEW AGAIN. I CALLED OUR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND ASKED THAT THE TRUCK BE TOWED AS WE WANTED TO KNOW WHY IT WAS BLOWING THE FUSE EACH TIME WE REPLACED IT. THE REPAIR SHOP HAD THE TRUCK FOR 2 DAYS AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ABOUT 10 DAYS LATER IT BLEW A FUSE AGAIN. THIS TIME IT WAS THE #15 FUSE(STILL A 5 AMP FUSE) AND THIS TIME THE TRUCK WOULD CRANK BUT WOULD NOT GO OUT OF PARK. CALLED A TOW TRUCK AGAIN AND HAD IT TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP THAT NIGHT. I SPOKE WITH THE REPAIR SHOP OWNER ON SAT JULY 1 AND TOLD HIM IT WAS A SECONDARY VEHICLE AND AS THIS WAS A HOLIDAY WEEKEND NOT TO RUSH. JUST WHEN THEY OPENED BACK UP AFTER THE HOLIDAY IF HE COULD GET IT FIXED THEN. ON THE MORNING OF JULY 4TH 2006 WE WERE CALLED AROUND 10:30 AM BY THE REPAIR SHOP OWNER, WHO WAS ALSO A TENANT IN THIS BUILDING, THAT OUR TRUCK HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE DURING THE NIGHT AND WAS A TOTAL LOSS. HE ASKED THAT WE COME RIGHT OVER. WE CALLED OUR INSURANCE ON THE WAY AS WE LUCKILY STILL HAD FULL COVERAGE EVEN THOUGH OUR TRUCK WAS PAID FOR. THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP HAD ALL THE BAY DOORS CUT OPEN BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DURING THE NIGHT(JULY 3RD) AND THERE WERE SEVERAL OTHER CARS IN THE BUILDING THAT WERE DAMAGED ALSO. AT LEAST ONE OF WHICH WAS A TOTAL LOSS ALSO. THE BUILDING HAD WATER AND SMOKE DAMAGE EVEN IN ITS RESTROOM. THE REPAIR SHOP HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO OPEN ALL WEEK AND WHO KNOWS HOW LARGE HIS DEDUCTIBLE, ETC IS. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT MY FORD 2003 EXCURSION HAS A FIRE RECALL ON IT. I AM TERRIFIED TO HAVE MY CHILDREN IN IT OR HAVE IT NEAR MY HOME OR SOMEONE ELSE'S AS I DON'T WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I HAVE ALSO FOUND OUT THAT IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD OF 26 HOUSES. THE MAN 4 DOORS DOWN HAD HIS F150 BURN DOWN IN HIS DRIVEWAY DURING THE NIGHT. IT HAPPENED THE MONTH PRIOR TO US MOVING HERE. *JB
ON 7-1-06 A CUSTOMER HAD HER F150 TOWED TO MY REPAIR FACILITY. AT THAT TIME I HAD THE 2001 F150 PUSHED IN TO SECURE THE TRUCK FOR THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. ON 7-3-06 I GOT A CALL INFORMING ME THAT MY SHOP WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE CHIEF IN HIS REPORT POINTED HIS FINGER AT THE FORD. SINCE THEN I HAVE 2 POINT OF ORIGIN FIRE INVESTIGATORS LOOK AT THE TRUCK THEY ALSO POINTED THE FINGER AT FORD. A FORD REP. CAME OUT AND TOOK A FEW PICS. AND SAID '!@#$% HAPPENS AND THEN LEFT. SO FAR FORD HAS NOT CAME TO LOOK AT THE TRUCK. WHAT AND I SUPPOSE TO DO? *NM
2001 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER, AT ABOUT 30 MPH, 3RD SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT STRIPPING THREADS AND RUINING COIL. WE REPLACED THE COIL, BUT DEALER WILL NOT RETHREAD, THE DEALER SAYS THAT IF THEY WERE TO RETHREAD IT WOULD NOT HOLD AND WOULD PROBABLY BLOW AGAIN POSSIBLY DOING MORE DAMAGE TO MOTOR. THEY SAID THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE THE HEAD WHICH IS 2000.00. WHEN IT BLEW I WAS ON MY WAY TO THE AIRPORT TO PICK UP FAMILY WITH MY NEWBORN AND FOUR YEAR OLD. I WAS STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF IN 98 DEGREE HEAT. MY FAMILY WAS STRANDED AT THE AIRPORT FOR TWO HOURS, NOT TO MENTION THE TOW BILL. I CALLED FORD, THEY ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM, BUT TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY. THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE OF POOR MAINTENANCE. BUT MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN 100 PERCENT PROPERLY MAINTAINED. *NM
2001 F150 LARIAT THE PINION BEARINGS, CARRIER BEARINGS AND THE RACES FOR BOTH WERE PITTED AND IN BAD SHAPE. *TS ***NAR*** PRIOR TO TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THE CONSUMER HEARD A WHINNING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR END. THE REAR END OF THE TRUCK HAD TO BE REBUILT. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT EITHER THE BEARING ARE MADE OF A CHEAP MATERIAL, THAT THE GEARS ARE BAD OR WHERE THE SIT IS NOT SET UP CORRECTLY. *NM
WHILE TRAVELING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY NEAR MY HOME MY 2001 F150 BLEW A SPARK PLUG FROM THE MOTOR. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME. THE FIRST AT 37K MILES AND THE SECOND AT 48K. THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER NEARLY CAUSED A COLLISION. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND IN THE PASSING LANE AT THE TIME. THIS IS A FREQUENT OCCURENCE WITH THIS FORD MOTOR FROM WHAT I CAN SEE ON THE INTERNET. WHY IS NOTHING BEING DONE TO PROTECT THE CONSUMER FROM THIS OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW? DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE FIRST?
NUMBER 3 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT, STRIPPING THE THREADS IN THE HEAD AND BREAKING THE IGNITION COIL. FUEL COULD HAVE BEEN IGNITED FROM THE DANGLING SPARK PLUG WIRE AFTER THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT. *NM

UPDATED 7/13/2006 - THE DIFFERENTIAL UNIT STARTED MAKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY AND TOLD THAT THE CARRIER BEARING AND PINION BEARING AND THE RACES FOR BOTH WERE PITTED AND HAD BLACK STREAKS ON THEM. *NM
FOR A FEW MONTHS AFTER TUNING UP MY FORD F-150 WITH THE 4.8 V-8, MY TRUCK STARTED BLOWING SPARK PLUGS OUT OF THE MOTOR WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF FORD AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MOTOR BUT THEY WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE. I DID MY OWN RESEARCH AND FOUND INSTANCES OF PEOPLE RUNNING OFF THE ROAD AFTER THEIR PLUG SHOT THROUGH THEIR HOOD AND SCARED THEM. *JB
I PURCHASED A USED 2001 FORD F-150 CREW CAB FEBRUARY 2006 WITH 59K MILES ON IT. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE PAINT OR CLEAR COAT ON THE HOOD, QUARTER PANELS, AND DOORS STARTED TO CRACK. THE CRACKING HAS CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. BEFORE PURCHASE THE TITLE WAS CHECKED AND THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE PAINT FROM FORD IS DEFECTIVE AND IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE WEB. SPARK PLUG EJECTED OUT OF MY ENGINE WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MILES PER HOUR IN MARYLAND. I MEAN IT ACTUALLY "BLEW OUT" OF THE HEAD. STRIPPED THE HEAD AND CRACKED THE COIL AS WELL AS THE SPARK PLUG. I BELIEVE THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW ON THE ALUMINUM HEAD AND THE REDUCED NUMBER OF THREADS ON THE SPARK PLUG. FORD DEALERS HAVE ADVISED ME THAT THE ONLY FIX IS TO INSTALL A NEW HEAD OF THE SAME NATURE. WHY WOULD I WANT TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE PART WITH ANOTHER POTENTIALLY FAULTY PART? THIS MAY CAUSE A SAFETY CONCERN IF I WAS DRIVING FASTER IN A LARGER VOLUME OF TRAFFIC. TWO FORD DEALERSHIPS HAVE ADVISED ME TODAY THAT IS NOT A DESIGN FLAW I BELIEVE THIS MAYBE A LARGER PROBLEM BASED ON MY RESEARCH AND THE MANUFACTURE SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. MY F-150 FORD PICKUP TRUCK ENGINE MADE A LOUD POP AND A SERIES OF POP NOISES AFTER THAT IN TANEYTOWN, MD ON 4/28/06. PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND SHUT ENGINE OFF. OPENED HOOD AND DID NOT SEE ANYTHING, BUT SMELLED GAS. STARTED ENGINE AND SAW A COIL AND WIRE FLAPPING UP AND DOWN. PURCHASED NEW COIL ON 4/29, AND ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE. FOUND SPARK PLUG FROM CYLINDER ON THE LAYING ON THE TOP OF ENGINE BLOCK. I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE HOME, BUT 3 MILES DOWN THE ROAD, EXPERIENCED SAME CONDITION. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO CROUSE FORD IN TANEYTOWN, MD. INTERNET SEARCHES SHOW THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I CONTACTED PRIVATE AUTO REPAIR CENTER TO CORRECT. THIS HAS COST ME OVER $6,900 THUS FAR. I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A DESIGN DEFECT AND A SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR. THERE ARE COUNTLESS CASES OF THIS CONDITION IN THE TRITON ENGINES (FROM MY RESEARCH) FROM 1999-2002. I BELIEVE FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO ME, ITS CUSTOMERS, AND THE OTHER POTENTIAL FAILURES FROM THEIR POOR ENGINE DESIGN. THE HEAD IS MANUFACTURED FROM ALUMINUM, AND THE SPARK PLUGS ONLY HAVE 4 THREADS WHICH IS NOT ENOUGH TO HOLD UNDER COMBUSTION PRESSURE. DENIAL OF THIS CONDITION, IN MY OPTION IS CONSUMER FRAUD. I AM REQUESTING A RECALL FOR THE FORD SPEED CONTROL SYSTEMS. THEY ARE CAUSING UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATIONS WHICH DO NOT RESPOND TO THE BREAKS. I WAS STOPPED IN A DRIVE THROUGH WINDOW WITH MY FOOT ON THE BREAK. THE VEHICLE WAS AT A FULL STOP. SUDDENLY WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BREAK THE ENGINE ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL. BECAUSE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BREAK THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD. THIS WAS NOT A MISTAKE OF PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR BECAUSE I WAS PREVENTING THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING FORWARD BY HAVING MY FOOT ON THE BREAK. QUICKLY I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK PREVENTING IT FROM DRIVING OFF THE END OF THE DRIVE THROUGH. AFTERWARDS I PROCEEDED TO CONDUCT RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE FORD SPEED CONTROL SYSTEMS ARE CAUSING UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATIONS WHICH LEAD TO SEVERE ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS. *NM
WHILE DRIVING, THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON. I DROVE TO THE AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND IT WAS DETERMINED IT WAS THE EGR PRESSURE SENSOR DEFECT. I WAS TOLD BY THE REPAIR SHOP THAT HE THOUGHT THIS MIGHT BE A RECALL ITEM ON THE FORD F150. I SEARCHED FOR RECALL NOTICES ON MY TRUCK AND CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL FOR THE EGR, BUT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED AND FORD SENT OUT LETTERS TO HAVE CUSTOMERS COME IN A HAVE ITEM REPLACED BECAUSE OF NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. MY TRUCK WAS INELIGIBLE BECAUSE I NOW HAVE OVER 72, 000 MILES. FORD WILL NOT HONOR THE TSB AT NO COST AND THE REPAIRS WILL COST OVER $250. WHY IS THEIR A MILEAGE REQUIREMENT FOR A MECHANICAL DEFECT THAT FORD HAS ACKNOWLEDGED? *JB
DRIVER SIDE BELT BUCKLE; BELT LATCH WILL NOT ENGAGE BUCKLE. BUCKLE WAS CHECKED OR REPLACED DURING RECALL. FORD RESPONSE, LESS THAN 5 YEARS 50,000 MILE TO REPLACE BUCKLE. BUCKLE $48.00 DOLLARS AND $85.00 TO INSTALL AT DEALERSHIP. INSTALL BUCKLE MYSELF, LESS THAN 5 MINUTES TO REMOVE AND REPLACE. I HAVE 2 MORE 2001 FORD VEHICLES (MUSTANGS) THAT HAVE DEFECTED SAFETY RESTRAINS. *NM
