VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WHERE THE AIRBAGS AND SEAT BELT FAILED. *TT RQ04011.*PCO
I WAS GOING DOWN HIGHWAY 111 IN RANCHO MIRAGE, CA WHEN A DRUNK DRIVER RAN A RED LIGHT. I SLAMMED INTO HER DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HEAD ON 1989 FORD CROWN VICTORIA WITH MY 2001 FORD F-150 CREW CAB TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 TO 45 MPH. NEITHER PASSENGER OR THE DRIVERS AIR BAGS WORKED. MY FIANCEE AND I BOTH SUFFERED INJURIES THAT I BELEIVE COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED HAD THE AIR BAGS WORKED. AS A RESULT OF THIS ACCIDENT MY NEW TRUCK WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS.*AK
RIGHT FRONT BOLTS THAT HOLD BRAKE CALIPER ON FELL OFF. VEHICLE CAME TO A ABRUPT STOP. TWO WEEKS LATER, LEFT FRONT BRAKE CALIPER FELL OFF. THIS TIME IT POKED A HOLE IN TIRE, AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A DANGEROUS ACCIDENT.*AK
GEAR SHIFT STICKS AND IS SOMETIMES IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT GEARS.*AK
FLUID LEAK IN CLUTCH SYSTEM, DEALER COULD NOT FIND SOURCE SO HE RELPACED MASTER CYLINDER AND SLAVE CYLINDER. THEN FEB 21 2003 HAD SAME PROBLEM. DEALER RELACED COMPLETE CLUCH ASSEMBLY INCLUDING THE SLAVE CYLINDER. ALSO AT THIS TIME THEY NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG SWITCH WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PRORERLY. THIS SWITCH HAD BEEN TURNED OFF AT TIME OF DELIVERY AND WAS NEVER TURNED ON AGAIN. HOW CAN THIS SWITCH FAIL UNDER THIS CONDITION? THIS TRUCK IS DRIVEN OVER THE ROAD AND WELL MAINTAINED. I DON'T FEEL THAT I SHOULD BE HAVING THIS MUCH TROUBLE WHEN THE CLUTCH IS NOT USED AS MUCH AS IF IT WERE USED FOR IN TOWN OR SUBURAN DRIVING. I FEEL THAT THIS MODEL AND YEAR HAS A FAULTY CLUTCH AND AIR BAG SYSTEM.
TIRES ARE NOT IN ALIGN PROPERLY DUE TO SUSPENSION. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. THE DEAL DID FIX THE FIRST PROBLEM BUT IGNORED COMPLAINTS THAT THE PROBLEM WAS STILL NOT FIXED. AT 36000 MILES THE DRIVE BELT WENT OUT AND STILL THERE WAS PROBLEMS W/ INJECTORS . NOW DEALERS WILL NOT HONOR WARRANTY BECASUE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 36900 EVEN THOUGH THEY PUT THE FIRST 1,234 WHEN THE TRUCK WAS BOUGHT NEW.*AK
FROM ACCELERATION OF 25-50 MPH, A SEVERE VIBRATION WOULD OCCUR IN FRONT OF VEHICLE. AT 70 MPH OR MORE REAR END WOULD VIBRATE SEVERELY ALONG WITH A ROARING AND GRINDING SOUND. VEHICLE BEEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES, DEALER WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE CAUSE OF PROBLEM. *AK THE VIBRATION IS EXTREME TO THE POINT THAT CONSUMER IS AFRAID TO RIDE IN THE VEHICLE. THE POPPING SOUND IN THE DRIVERS SEAT FEELS LIKE THE SEAT IS TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD OUT OF THE LOCKED POSITION. WHEN CONSUMER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE HAD A NOISE UNDERNEATH. IT WAS TOLD TO CONSUMER THAT IT WAS BEING REPAIRED WITH A NEW MUFFLER THAT HAD BEEN ORDERED. AT THE TIME THE MUFFLER WAS BEING REPAIRED THE VIBRATION ALSO WAS WORKED ON. THE WORK DID NOT CORRECT THE VIBRATION PROBLEM. A SERVICE MAN TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE CONSUMER AND AGAIN THE VIBRATION PRESENTED ITSELF. FOUR NEW TIRES WERE INSTALLED BUT THIS DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *JG
WHILE DRIVING AT 45-50 MPH CONSUMER HAD TO MAKE A SUDDEN STOP, AND THEN FRONT TWO TIRES FELL OFF. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK *YH
OUR INSURED, MR MOHSSIN, PERFORMED AN EVASIVE MANUEVER AT HIGHWAY SPEED APPLYING THE BRAKES TO THE MAXIMUM WHILE TURNING. HIS 2001 F150 HARLEY EDITION IS EQUIPPED WITH ABS AS WELL AS 20" RIMS WHICH ARE 40LBS HEAVIER THAN STOCK. IN THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS, WE HAVE GATHERED SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST THAT THE LF AND RF BRAKE CALIPER BRACKETS SNAPPED DURING THIS LOSS CAUSING BOTH TIRE/WHEEL/HUB ASSYS TO SHEAR OFF THE SPINDLE NUTS AND BECOME SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO IMPACT WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE PRIOR TO THIS AND ALL COMPONENTS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE OEM. IT IS THE OPINION OF OUR INDPENDENT RECONSTRUCTIONIST ENGINEER THAT THERE IS AMPLE REASON FOR FORD TO BE CONCERNED AND REVIEW THE EVIDENCE FOR THEMSELVES. TO DATE, WE HAVE HAD NO LUCK GETTING ANY RESPONSE OR INTEREST IN REVIEWING OUR FINDINGS. MANY AVENUES HAVE BEEN PURSUED TO SEEK SOME RESPONSE. THE ONLY CONTACT SO FAR HAS DIRECTED US TO SUBMIT A SUBROGATION DEMAND IF WE SEEK RECOVERY. OUR CONCERN AT THIS POINT IS TO GET THE INSURED HIS VEHICLE BACK. PHYSICAL EVIDENCE HAS BEEN SECURED. REPAIRS WILL BEGIN THE FIRST WEEK OF JULY. WE WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF THE NHTSA COULD PERSUADE A FORD REPRESENTATIVE TO CONTACT OUR NCAL PD MGR, ERIC HACKER AT 916 853-4607 TO CONFIRM FORD'S POSITION. WE APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 60 MPH THE TRUCK BEGAN ACCLERATING ON ITS OWN. APPLYING THE BRAKES DID NOT SOLVE PROBLEM. EXITED FREEWAY ON A RAMP AND APPLIED BRAKES TO THE FLOOR. HAD TO SHUT OFF IGNITION TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE TRUCK BUT IT WAS OVER REVVING AND SMOKING OUT THE EXHAUST. SHUT IT DOWN AND NEEDED A TOW.*AK
SERPENTINE BELT BROKE WHILE BACKING UP AND VEHICLE LOST STEERING ABILITY, TOWED TO DEALER, PART WAS REPLACED.*AK THE STEERING LOCKED AND THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN A COLLISION WITH A POLE.*YH
THE BOTTOM OF THE DOORS WAS RUSTED. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND MANUFACTURER. HOWEVER, DID NOTHING TO ASSIST THE CONSUMER. CONSUMER WAS TOLD IF THE DOOR GOT A HOLE IN IT THEN THEY WILL DO SOMETHING. *AK
F150 LARIAT WITH TOW PACKAGE PURCHASED NEW. TIRES ON THE VEHICLE WERE GOODRICH PASSENGER TIRES WITH PROPER WEIGHT RATING. HOWEVER, WHEN PULLING A 24 FT. TRAVEL TRAILER; THE TRUCK AND TRAILER WOULD AGGRESSIVELY SWAY WHEN HIT WITH LIGHT BREEZE OR PASSING VEHICLES. NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES. TESTED ALL HITCH/TRAILER/CENTER OF GRAVITY/WEIGHT ASPECTS AND ALL TESTED OKAY. TESTED PULLING TRAILER AT LOW SPEED WITH NO WIND/OTHER VEHICLES. DISCOVERED THE SMALLEST STEERING INPUT CAUSED SEVERE LATERAL SWAY WITH OSCILLATIONS BECOMING STRONGER WITHOUT CORRECTIVE ACTION. THE TIRES, ALTHOUGH RATED TO CARRY OVER 2,000 LBS., DO NOT HAVE THE SIDEWALL STRENGTH TO WITHSTAND THE LATERAL MOVEMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH PULLING A SMALL TRAVEL TRAILER. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED THESE NEW PASSENGER TIRES WITH LIGHT TRUCK TIRES AND FOUND THAT THE DANGEROUS SWAY HAS BEEN ELIMINATED. I HAVE INVESTED OVER $850 IN NEW TIRES IN ORDER TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT OTHER FORD TRUCK OWNERS MIGHT EXPERIENCE A SERIOUS COLLISION IF THEY USE THEIR TRUCK AND TOWING PACKAGE TO PULL A TRAVEL TRAILER IF THEIR TRUCK IS ONLY EQUIPPED WITH PASSENGER TIRES. I HAVE CONTACTED THE FORD DEALERSHIP, WHO REFERRED ME TO MR. PAUL BERARDI, A FORD FIELD ENGINEER. MR. BERARDI (602-692-6479) HAS NOT YET RESPONDED TO MY CONCERNS AS OF THIS WRITING. WHILE REFUELING THE GASOLINE TANK, THE NOZZLE CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS OFF, DRIVER DOES NOT SMOKE AND THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE KNOWN REASON FOR THE FIRE TO START. NO CELL PHONE USEAGE. KEYS WERE NOT IN THE IGNITION. POSSIBLE STATIC ELECTRICITY.*AK
WHILE TRYING TO PULL INTO GARAGE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY ACCELERATED, AND VEHICLE RAN INTO GARAGE. CONSUMER TRIED TO MOVE, AND VEHICLE AGAIN RAN THROUGH BACK OF GARAGE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DISCRIPTION ON THE WINDOW OF CAR WHEN PURCHASED, SAID THE TIRES SIZE WAS P275/70R17 AND THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE IS P275/60R17 WHICH CAUSES TIRE TO WEAR DOWN FASTER. *JB THE TIRES THAT CAME EQUIPPED WITH THE VEHICLE ARE SMALLER THAT WHAT THE WINDOW STICKER INDICATED, THE TIRES ARE NOT WEARING CORRECTLY AND THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THE VHEICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. *SCC

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT BELT BECAME UNBUCKLED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED UNDER A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL BUT NO FAILURE WAS DETERMINED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES SINCE 31,168 MILES. *JG *AK
STRUCTURE OF 2001 F150. MY LATE HUSBAND SUFFERED MASSIVE HEAD TRAMA WHEN THE F150 HE WAS DRIVING WAS STRUCK HEAD ON WITH AN ISUZU DELIVERY TRUCK. THE TRUCK BURST INTO FLAMES AND CONTINUED TO BURN OUT OF CONTROL. IIHS AND DATELINE REPORT THE STRUCTURE OF THE TRUCK IS UNSAFE AND COULD RESULT IN MASSIVE HEAD TRAMA INJURIES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DECELERATE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED A CHUNK OF ICE IN THE CARBURETOR. THE ICE WAS REMOVED AND THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON 7 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS FOR VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 34, 52 AND 72 MPH. THEY HAVE HAD THE FORD REGIONAL REP LOOK AT THIS VEHICLE 4 TIMES AND HE INSISTS THAT I HAVE A TIRE PROBLEM! I HAVE ALREADY BEEN THROUGH 5 NEW SETS OF TIRES, 2 NEW SETS OF WHEELS, A DRIVE SHAFT REPLACEMENT AND A REAR END OVERHAUL AND I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM! I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE THAT YOUR OFFICE COULD PROVIDE IN HELPING RESOLVE THESE PROBLEMS!*AK (TIRESIZE: P26570R17)
SIGNIFICANT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE, ALMOST AS IF THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING INTO NEUTRAL. THIS HAPPENED YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AND WAS NEARLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THIS PROBLEM STARTED AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES OF FREEWAY DRIVING, AND 10 MINUTES OF IN-TOWN DRIVING. IT WAS PROMINENT IN ALL AUTO TRANSMISSION GEARS: REVERSE, 1, 2, AND 3/DRIVE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP IN ARROYO GRANDE, CA 93420.
DRIVERS SEAT COLLAPSES IN MY 2001 FORD F150 LIGHTNING. *AK
OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE 13 DEGREES F. ACCELERATOR STUCK WHEN ACCELERATING TRUCK WHEN LEAVING HOME. IT SEEMS AS IF ICE HAD AFFECTED THE ACCELERATOR SYSTEM. AFTER HOLDING BRAKE WHILE STILL MOVING FORWARD, I TAPPED ON ACCELERATOR PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT RETURNED TO IDLE SPEED. IF THIS HAD NOT WORKED, I WOULD HAVE SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL OR SHUT DOWN THE MOTOR AFTER A FEW MORE SECONDS. IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM? *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON.HAD VEHICLE SERVICED,THEY REPLACED THE SENOR.ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN. MR
BLOWOUT OCCURRED ON OPEN HIGHWAY. CONTACTED FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THEY WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE BLOWOUT PROBLEM. CONTACTED FORD FACTORY AND WERE TOLD TO REFER THE PROBLEM TO FIRESTONE. FIRESTONE REFERRED TO FORD. THE FIRESTONE DEALER WHERE REPLACEMENT WAS PURCHASED ADVISED US TO CONTACT FIRESTONE AS IT WAS DEFINITELY A DEFECTIVE BLOWOUT. *AK (TIRESIZE: LT265/75R1)

INTERMITTENTLY WHEN COMING DOWN AN INCLINE IT WOULD COME OUT OF OVERDRIVE; DEALER NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
Whoever tested our seatbelts on this vehicle years ago at the Ford dealership in Florence, Alabama did not do a good test. When me or my husband are driving the driver side seatbelt will release and we have to pull over to fasten it back again. It will do this several times while driving, which is a safety hazard. It has to be a defect in the connection of the seatbelt. The one on the passenger side works and have not had any problems with it coming undone. It is only the one on the driver's side that wants to come undone while driving. We will put it on and tug on it and it stays but when driving it will not stay fastened long. When they did the test at the Ford dealer in Florence, Alabama many years ago, all they did was fasten it without sitting in the seat and tug on it a few times and said it passed. We then moved to Texas in November of 2001 and on the way there it started releasing going down the road. Since the seatbelt was tested back then we were not sure if we could get it tested again for that purpose. Is there anything we can do to get this fixed even though we had it tested already once before?

WHILE DRIVING 65MPH, TRACKER PASSED CONSUMER'S VEHICLE AND SOON AFTER, VEHICLE SHUTDOWN, ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON. THIS USUALLY HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY. THREE WEEKS LATER, VEHICLE SHUTDOWN AGAIN. *AK CONSUMER STATES THAT THIS ONLY HAPPENS AT TIMES WHEN ACCELERATING, CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE WOULD ALSO LUNGE FORWARD AND REV WHEN IN A STOPPED POSITION WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE, DEALER HAS REPLACED SPARK PLUGS, IGNITION, VAPOR VLAVE, AND COMPUTER, VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REMEDIED. *JB

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE 15 TO 20 MPH BRAKES LOCKED UP. WHEN APPLYING ABS BRAKES VEHICLE DID NOT STOP, IT PULLED TO LEFT. CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, AND VEHICLE WENT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT. CONTACTED DEALER AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT.*AK

THE CONSUMERS SON WAS TRAVELING WITH HIS FRIEND IN HIS NEW FORD SVT 150 LIGHTING TRUCK. WHEN THE CONSUMERS SON WAS ASLEEP AND HIS FRIEND WAS DRIVING HE WAS TRAVELING IN AN EXCESS SPEED OF 120 MPH, HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED. THE FRONT HAD GONE HEAD ON INTO THE EMBANKMENT WHEN THE AIRBAGS DID NOT ACTIVATE INCLUDING THE SIDE AIRBAGS. THE CONSUMERS SON WAS THROWN OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND KILLED. *PH *SCC *JB
FATAL ACCIDENT INVOLVING A 2001 FORD SVT F-150 PICKUP. *PH WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ENTERED A CURVE TO THE RIGHT WHICH RESULTED IN THE DRIVER LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SKID UNCONTROLLABLY UNTIL IT RAN OFF TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER, STRUCK A STREET SIGN BEFORE STRIKING A DRIVEWAY CULVERT AND VAULTING INTO THE AIR. AFTER THE FIRST CONTACT WITH THE GROUND THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER EJECTING BOTH OCCUPANTS. NEITHER OF THE TWO OCCUPANTS WERE WEARING A SEAT BELT. SPEED MAY HAVE BEEN A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT. (NAR)
