TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UP TO 80 MPH; HOWEVER, WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THAT DID NOT SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL GEAR AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE SPEED DECREASED TO 50 MPH AND THE CONTACT SHIFT THE VEHICLE BACK INTO DRIVE GEAR. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CONTACT WAS FORCED TO KICK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IN ORDER TO DECREASE THE SPEED. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER OR LOCAL MECHANIC. THE CONTACT DID NOT CALL THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, ATTEMPTING A TURN OR TRAVELING OVER A ROAD BUMP, THE VEHICLE WOULD SPORADICALLY EMIT A METAL-TO-METAL DRAGGING NOISE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE SUPPORT FOR THE RADIATOR WAS FRACTURED, CAUSING THE RADIATOR TO SWAY WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THE DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE BOLT ON THE ENGINE HEAD WAS RUSTED AND BECAME CORRODED. IN ADDITION, THE MANIFOLD WAS CRACKED AND LEAKING CARBON DIOXIDE DUE TO THE CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SENSOR. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE COINCIDED WITH THE CONSEQUENCE MENTIONED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL), IN WHICH THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT RECEIVED THE RECALL REPAIRS AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
TURNED INTO A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT AND TRUCK STARTED TO SMOKE. I THOUGHT IT WAS OVER HEATING BUT WHEN I PARKED I GOT OUT AND THE TRUCK STARTED HAVING BLACK SMOKE THEN FLAMES CAME FROM THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE HOOD OVER THE TIRE. I CALLED 911. WHEN THE FIRE TRUCKS ARRIVED THE HOOD WAS IN FLAMES AND THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK WAS BURNED. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE TRUCK AND HAVE TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF IT. SOMEONE THAT WORKS WITH MY SON HAD AN F150 THAT BURNED 6 MONTHS AGO. AFTER WE LOOKED UP THE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS I FOUND OUT THIS HAS HAPPENED ALOT. I ALSO FOUND A RECALL ON A PART FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL BUT I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THIS. HOW ARE PEOPLE INFORMED OF RECALLS? I LIVED A THE SAME ADDRESS FOR 7 YEARS AND HAD THE SAME PHONE NUMBER. THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM PALMETTO FORD IN CHARLESTON SC HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I WAS NOT INFORMED. IF I HAD NOT GOT OUT I WOULD HAVE BURNED WITH THE TRUCK. IS IT THE OWNER RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK FOR RECALLS. I WOULD UNDERSTAND IF I WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER BUT I AM. *TR

AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S HOME ALSO CAUGHT ON FIRE FROM THE VEHICLE FIRE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT AND A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. A RESIDENT SUFFERED FRO SMOKE INHALATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED AND REMAINED PARKED AT THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 164,800.

I KEEP HAVING MAJOR ISSUES WITH MY TRUCK EJECTING SPARK PLUGS FROM THE ENGINE WHICH IS BREAKING NOT ONLY MY SPARK PLUGS BUT MY COIL PACK AS WELL. THIS IS REDICULIOUS. THE FIRST TIME I WAS AT A LIGHT AT A DEAD STOP WHEN I HEAR A LOUD BANGING NOISE LIKE SOMETHING EXPLODED THEN MY TRUCK STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND HAD TO GET IT TOWED. IT STRANDED US 45 MINUTES FROM HOME. THE SECOND TIME WAS TWO DAYS AGO ON MARCH 18 I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A DRIVE THRU AGAIN AT A DEAD STOP AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND HAD THE SAME ISSUE. AGAIN MY SPARK PLUG WAS EJECTED AND COIL PACK BROKEN. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN CYLINDER 1 AND WAS REPAIRED THEN ONE MONTH LATER THE NEXT TIME CYLINDER 2 EJECTED. 5 MINUTES AFTER IT WAS REPAIRED AND HAD NEW PLUG AND COIL PACK IT AGAIN EJECTED. IM UPSET BECAUSE I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE MY TRUCK. IF FORD DOESNT FIX THIS I WILLNEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD. NOW IT IS USELESS SITTING IN MY GARAGE TAKIN UP SPACE. *TR

THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER ASSESSMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2001 FORD F150 WAS SITTING OUT IN DRIVEWAY OF OWNER'S HOME. HE HAD BEEN HOME APPROX 1/2 HOURS WHEN OWNERS VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO FIRE DAMAGE TO THE INSIDE CAB OF OWNERS VEHICLE. *TR
THIS IS REGARDING THE RECALL FOR THE STRAPS HOLDING THE GAS TANK ON THE FORD F150 . FORD REPLACED THE STRAPS IN FEB. OF 2012, BUT NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE CORROSION ON THE GAS TANK THAT WAS CAUSED FROM THE FAULTY STRAPS.. A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE REPAIR THE GAS TANK STARTED TO LEAK DUE TO THE RUST WHERE THE STRAPS WERE. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE GAS TANK WAS NOT WARRANTEED UNDER THE RECALL. THIS IS RATHER CONFUSING. IF THE FAULTY STRAPS WHICH FORD AGREED TO REPLACE CAUSED THE GAS TANK TO RUST AND LEAK, WHY WOULD THIS NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL?? THE FAULTY STRAPS CAUSED THE CORROSION OF THE GAS TANK. THIS IS CLEARLY EXPLAINED IN THE NHTSA WEBSITE. I WAS FORCED TO ACCEPT AFTERMARKET PARTS IN ORDER TO AVOID THE FULL PRICE OF APPROXIMATELY $2,000 FOR REPAIR. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY FORD 150 OWNER WHO HAS BEEN FORCED TO REPLACE THEIR CORRODED GAS TANK DUE TO DEFECTIVE STRAPS ON FORD'S PART. WE ALL KNOW A LEAKY GAS TANK IS THE RECIPE FOR DISASTER - DEATH. MY FINAL COST WAS $540 - ONLY BECAUSE I AGREED TO USE AFTERMARKET PARTS. THIS ENTIRE SITUATION IS A DISGRACE. I AM CONSIDERING BRINGING THIS MATTER TO THE ATTENTION OF THE MEDIA. SHAME ON FORD. *TR
TRUCK STARTING PULLING BADLY TO RIGHT, LOSS OF POWER, SPEED AND SMOKE COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. RIM, CALIPER WERE SMOKING , HAD TO POUR WATER ON TO WHEEL TO KEEP FROM BURNING. AFTER TOWED TO SERVICE CENTER WAS TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FORD TRUCKS THAT THE SLIDE PIN ON THE CALIPER CAN SEIZE AND LOCK THE BRAKE IN ACTIVE POSITION PREVENTING IT FROM RELEASING FROM THE ROTOR CAUSING THE EXTREME HEAT AND BURNING THE BRAKE BAD AND SEALS IN THE CALIPER. I WAS LUCKY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AT 70 MPH AND LOCK THE WHEELCAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL. I VE ALSO LOOKED AT THE REPORTS ON THE INTERNET AND SEE WHERE OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THIS IN BLOG BUT NOW TO SAFETY COMMISSION. *TR

REPLACEMENT OF CORRODED GAS TANK ASSEMBLY REQUIRED FOLLOWING SAFETY INSPECTION IN 2012. I SUBSEQUENTLY LEARNED OF A RECALL [NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 11V385000. FORD RECALL NUMBER 11S21]. I CANNOT DETERMINE IF MY VEHICLE (BOUGHT USED) HAD THE RECALL REPAIRS PERFORMED ON IT. THE SUBSEQUENT REPAIRS TO THE FUEL SYSTEM COST $1472.84. IF I WAS SOLD THIS USED VEHICLE, I WANT TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD ME THE TRUCK COMPENSATE ME FOR THE REPAIRS.

THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE AND BOTH FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT BOTH STRAPS AND THE FILLER HOSE WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FILLER HOSE WAS BANDAGED. APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS LATER THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING). THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER THE RECALL AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER, THE CONTACT REFUELED THE VEHICLE, NOTICED GASOLINE LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS LATER CONTACTED AND ADVISED HIM THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS FAULTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 161,344. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 166,000.
REAR LIGHTS, INCLUDING BRAKE, TURN SIGNALS, AND HAZARD LIGHTS QUIT WORKING. THIS ISSUE CAN BE FOUND ON MANY ONLINE FORD F-150 FORUMS. THE STEERING COLUMN WIRING IS TOO SHORT, AND BREAKAGE IN THE WIRE, OR CONNECTORS CAN OCCUR WITH THE TILT STEERING MECHANISM. THE TILT STEERING MECHANISM AND SHORT WIRING HAS CAUSED THE CONNECTION TO BREAK INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN TRIM ON OUR VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED THE LIGHTS TO STOP FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I INSPECTED THE PROBLEM, AND FOUND THE CONNECTOR CAN MOVE FREELY. I FEEL THIS IS AN ISSUE SINCE I AM ABLE TO LOCATE MANY OTHERS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE FROM 1997 UP TO 2001 FORD F-150S. *TR

AS I WAS LEAVING A STOP SIGN, I ACCELERATED AND A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF IT'S HOLE AND WILL NOT GO BACK IN. THIS IS A PRODUCT DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATHS TO UNKNOWING FORD OWNERS. FORD SHOULD RECALL ASAP. *JB

A SECOND VEHICLE WAS PARKED BESIDE THE BURNING VEHICLE AND SUSTAINED MODERATE DAMAGES AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SAVAGE FACILITY. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) IN WHICH THE CONSEQUENCE WAS A FIRE. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN WHETHER THE VIN WAS INCLUDED. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,750.
TWO BLOCKS FROM MY RESIDENCE, I EXPERIENCED A LOUD 'BOOM', TREAD SEPARATION AND DAMAGE TO MY RIGHT REAR QUARTER PANEL, FENDER BRACES AND MY EXHAUST PIPE. THE TIRE IN QUESTION IS A GOODRICH T/A KM LT 285/75R/16/122/119/D M + S MUD TIRE. THIS IS A LOAD RANGE D TIRE WITH A MAX OF 65 PSI. I USE 50 PSI. THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED IN 2007/2008, AND MOUNTED ON SEPARATE RIMS. THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND THE MUD TERRAIN TIRES WERE EXCHANGED OFTEN.MY TRUCK HAS APPROXIMATELY 40K TOTAL MILES. IF THE DRIVING ON EACH TIRE WERE DIVIDED EVENLY, EACH TIRE WOULD ONLY HAVE 18K MILES, AT THE TIME OF THE TIRE FAILURE. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED OFTEN. INFLATION WAS CHECKED EVERY WEEK. I CHOSE NOT TO USE THE ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY TO REPLACE THE TIRE. AS IT HAPPENED ON A NEWLY REBUILT STREET.THIS TIRE HAS A 3 PLY SIDE WALL AND A 5 PLY TREAD. THIS TYPE OF TREAD SEPARATION SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. I WANT GOODRICH TO REPLACE ALL TIRES, BECAUSE I'M AFRAID TO USE THEM. HAD THIS FAILURE HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED, RESULTS COULD BE WORSE. I HAVE TRIED TO REASON WITH GOODRICH CONSUMER REPRESENTATIVES, TO NO AVAIL. THE TIRES 'WERE TOO OLD', BASED ON THE DOT NUMBER. SEARS WANTS TO ONLY REPLACE 1 TIRE. I BELIEVE THE SET TO BE DANGEROUS. THE ORIGINAL 2001 TIRES ARE VERY SERVICEABLE. I NOTICED SOME 59 COMPLAINTS ON 'CONSUMER AFFAIRS' FOR B. F. GOODRICH OFF-ROAD TIRES. MY COMPLAINT WILL MAKE 60. I WAS DRIVING HOME AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION UNDER THE HOOD AND IT SOUNDED LIKE PART OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM GAVE WAY. I PULLED OVER AND FOUND OUT THAT A SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE HEAD. THE ONLY ONE TO EVER TOUCH THE ENGINE WAS FORD AND THAT THEY HAD REPLACED A SPARK PLUG SEVERAL YEARS AGO. I GOT ON LINE AND FOUND OUT THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF THESE SPARK PLUG EJECTIONS. I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE PROBLEM ? THE FACT THAT THE SUPER-HEATED AIR AND MIXTURE FUEL SPRAYING ALL OVER THE UNDERNEATH OF THE HOOD IS A EXTREME DANGER, IT WOULD SEEM THAT WOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. *TR
THE TRUCK STARTED ON FIRE WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY HOURS AFTER BEING PARKED. BY THE TIME WE REALIZED IT WAS ON FIRE, IT WAS TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL AND THE TRUCK WELL BEYOND SAVING. SO I THEN HAD TO FIND SOMEONE ELSE, ANOTHE WRECKER CHARGE. FORD MUST KNOW FROM ALL THE COMPLAINTS THAT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AND VERY COSTLY. WHILE SHIFTING ABOUT IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT TO BACK UP AND LOOK REARWARD TO GUIDE THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE, THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT UNEXPECTEDLY CAME UNBUCKLED AND BEGAN TO RETRACT. I THOUGHT THAT I MUST HAVE BEEN AT FAULT AND NOT PROPERLY BUCKLED IT EVEN THOUGH THE NORMAL WARNING LITE AND SOUNDS INDICATING AN UNBUCKLED SEAT BELT WERE NOT EVIDENT. OWNERS BEGAN TO "TUG" THE BELT AFTER LATCHING IT EACH TIME TO ENSURE PROPER CLOSURE AND VERIFY BUCKLE ENGAGED. THE SAME EVENTS, USUALLY ENCOUNTERED WHILE SHIFTING POSITION IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT, HAPPENED REPEATEDLY EVEN THOUGH BUCKLES INITIAL ENGAGEMENT HAD BEEN TEST VERIFIED BY THE DRIVER EACH TIME. WE WERE OBVIOUSLY CONCERNED THAT IN ANY ACCIDENT, THAT BELT MIGHT DISENGAGE AND CAUSE US INCREASED HARM AS A RESULT. I WAS GETTING ON THE INTERSTATE THIS AM AND HEARD A NOISE, THE TRUCK LOST POWER AND STARTED RUNNING EXTREMELY ROUGH. I TURNED AROUND AND BARELY MADE IT HOME (ONLY A FEW MILES). AT APPROXIMATELY 50+ MPH THE FRONT OF THE CAR SHAKES. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ALMOST OVER AN YEAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, SAID NOTHING IS WRONG. I HAVE A 2001 FORD F-150 THAT I WAS USING TO DROP MY SON OFF AT HIS FRIEND'S HOUSE. ON THE WAY HOME MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 35 MPH AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP AT THE INTERSECTION LIKE I WAS SUPPOSED TO. I RECENTLY TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR RECALL SERVICE TO HAVE THE GAS TANK SUPPORT STRAPS REPLACED, IS POSSIBLE THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS COMPROMISED DURING THE RECALL WORK? I HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE SEEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS. I CONTACTED FORD ABOUT THIS UNUSUAL INCIDENT AND THEY STATED THAT BECAUSE MY TRUCK IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY THAT I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND HAVE IT REPAIRED. THE LARGER ISSUE IS THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN, WARRANTY OR NO. WHAT IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT A FASTER RATE OF SPEED OR ENTERING A BUSY INTERSECTION OR A NERVOUS DRIVER. DEALER IN MY AREA QUOTED $800 TO INSTALL A HELI COIL AND NEW IGNITION COIL; BUT ADVISED THAT NEW HEADS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS THE OTHER 7 CYLINDERS COULD ALSO BE SUBJECT TO THE SAME FAILURE. DEALER ALSO INDICATED THIS WAS AN APPARENT DESIGN FLAW BY FORD, WHICH IS NOT CURRENTLY BEING ADDRESSED. NEW CYLINDER HEADS AT THE DEALER WERE QUOTED OUT AT $5,000 INSTALLED. A PLASTIC COVER OVER THE REAR PART (TOWARDS THE AXLE) OF THE GAS TANK HAS CAUSED A RUST HOLE IN THE TANK. THE PIECE IS HELD ON WITH 2 STRIPS OF DOUBLE SIDED ADHESIVE AND ATTACHES TO TWO CLIPS ON THE TANK. THE RUST DAMAGE IS UNDER THE ADHESIVE STRIP ON THE BOTTOM CAUSING A VERY SLOW LEAK.
