TOTAL FAILURE TIE ROD AND BALL JOINT ON FRONT DRIVER SIDE SUDDENLY CAME APART WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING CAUSING LOST OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO "DIRECT" TRUCK OFF THE ROAD. *TR
MY VEHICLE HAS A WATER LEAK THAT IS GETTING THE GEM MODULE WET AND THIS HAS RESULTED IN THE WIPERS FAILING, THE POWER WINDOWS TO FAIL, THE HEATER FAN STAYS ON AFTER THE KEY IS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION, AND THE ENGINE RUNS VERY ROUGH AND STALLS RESULTING IN ME LOSING THE POWER STEERING AND PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN A DITCH, THE WIPERS STOPPED WORKING DURING A RECENT HEAVY RAIN AND I HAD TO PULL ONTO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE FOR OVER 30 MINUTES. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE CLAIMS THEY NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BUT I FOUND OUT THEY ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 98-9-13 TO THE DEALERS ABOUT THIS AND ALSO FORD SPECIAL MESSAGE #15773 FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER WANTS OVER $1,100.00 TO FIX .THIS PROBLEM IS IN 1997-2002 FORD F150 AND EXPEDITIONS. I FEEL THAT THE LOSS OF WIPERS AND SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES IS A BIGGER SAFETY HAZARD THAN THE CURRENT RECALL ON THE CRUISE CONTROL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND WOBBLED VIOLENTLY THEN FUEL SPEWED FROM THE ENGINE. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF FIVE YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE SPARK PLUG COILS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED EACH TIME. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 226,330.
BLEW OUT TWO SPARK PLUGS AND ALMOST GOT REARENDED ON THE HIGHWAY BY A TRACTOR TRAILER. *TR
MY FORD 2002 F 150 SUPERCREW CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED IN MY DRIVE WAY IT HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN 24 HOURS. *TR
THE #4 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF MY 2002 FORD F150. IT HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF EACH OTHER. *TR
I HAVE HAD THE 02' F150 JUST OVER ONE YEAR AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDSHIELD LEAKING INTO THE CAB. I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 97' TO 03' F150 MODEL VIA FORD FORUMS AND OTHER INTERNET GROUPS. THIS LEAK SHORTS OUT THE FUSE PANEL CAUSING THE LOSS IN POWER IN VARIOUS EQUIPMENT INCLUDING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. THIS SHORT HAS ALSO CAUSED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO FAIL CAUSING THE COMPUTER TO NOT READ WHAT GEAR THE TRUCK IS IN WHICH HAS CAUSED THE TRUCK NOT TO START OR STOP RUNNING WHILE THE TRUCK IS IN OPERATION. THE ONLY WAY THE FIX THE PROBLEM IS TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REMOVED AND RESEALED AS WELL AS REPLACING THE FUSE PANEL REPLACED. OTHERS AS WELL AS I HAVE HAD TO HAVE OTHER REPAIRS MADE DUE TO THE LEAK INCLUDING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, STARTER, RELAY, ALTERNATOR, AND THE IGNITION SENSOR. I HAVE HAD TO MAKE THESE REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET AS NO MANUFACTURE RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED, ONLY A SPECIAL SERVICE BULLETIN. FORD HAS BEEN CONTACTED ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT HAS STATED THAT IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE HAD THE 02' F150 SINCE DECEMBER 07' AND HAVE HAD MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDSHIELD LEAKING. I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH IN THE 97' TO 03' F150 MODELS VIA FORD FORUMS AND OTHER INTERNET SITES AS WELL AS THE LOCAL FORD DEALER REPAIR SHOP WHO WORKED ON MY TRUCK. THIS LEAK SHORTS OUT THE FUSE PANEL IN THE CAB THAT CAUSES THE LOSS OF POWER TO EQUIPMENT INCLUDING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER. THE LEAK ALSO TENDS TO SHORT OUT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CAUSING THE COMPUTER TO BE UNABLE TO READ WHAT GEAR THE TRUCK IS IN. THIS CAUSES THE TRUCK TO NOT START AND EVEN SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING WHICH AGAIN IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING IN ANY CONDITION. THIS LEAK COST ME $1500 DOLLARS IN REPAIRS DUE TO DAMAGE TO THE STARTER, RELAY, ALTERNATOR, COMPUTER, FUSE PANEL, AND HAVING TO REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT THIS LEAK WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND HAVE ONLY ISSUED A SPECIAL SERVICE BULLETIN! I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THE WINDSHIELD LEAK IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE YET A RECALL CAN BE ISSUED FOR FADING PAINT? *TR
DRIVING 2002 FORD F-150 AND SUDDENLY ENGINE LOST POWER AND MADE POPPING SOUNDS. THIS HAPPENED ON VERY BUSY STREET NEARLY GOT REAR-ENDED AS POWER DRAMATICALLY FELL OFF. CHECKED ENGINE AND SPARK PLUG WAS BLOWN OUT AND COIL WAS DESTROYED ABOVE THE SPARK PLUG RIGHT UNDERNEATH FUEL RAIL. STRANDED ON SIDE OF BUSY ROAD FOR 2 HOURS UNTIL VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER HAD TO USE HELIOCOIL AND REPLACED COIL COSTING APPROXIMATELY $600. *TR
2002 F150 SUPERCREW LEAKY WINDSHIELD CAUSING ELECTRICAL PARTS TO GO ON AND OFF. I WISH FORD WOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM IM AFRAID TO TAKE THE FAMILY IN IT IN FEAR OF AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. *TR
1. DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH IN TOWN IN VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000 MILES. HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION AND TRUCK IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO SPUTTER. HAD TO PULL OVER. BARELY MADE IT TO AUTO SHOP A COUPLE OF MILES DOWN THE ROAD. 2. DIAGNOSED AS A BLOWN SPARK PLUG WHICH DAMAGED THE BLOCK, HEAD AND ENGINE. THE AUTO REPAIR COMPANY TOLD ME THAT ONLY FORD DEALER COULD REPAIR THIS DAMAGE. ESTIMATED AT $3500 TO $4000 TO REPAIR. 3. HAVE YET TO DECIDE WHAT TO DO, AS WE STILL OWE A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF MONEY ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR
THE FACTORY PAINT ALREADY HAS TO BE REPAINTED THE WHOLE PAINT JOB IS CRACKED ALL OVER THE TRUCK SO BAD THAT IT WILL HAVE TO BE SANDED TO THE METAL AND COST OVER 4000 TO REPAINT. *TR
PLUG BLOWN OUT OF HEAD!!!!!!! COST 250 DOLLARS TO FIX.......... *TR
FORD'S RECALL ABOUT CRUISE CONTROL FIRES HAS BEEN ON CNN THREE TIMES IN THE LAST FEW YEARS. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER EACH TIME WHEN THE FIRST TWO RECALLS CAME OUT. EACH TIME I WAS TOLD BY THE FORD DEALER THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS TO MAKE THE REPAIR. I ASKED THEM TO CALL ME WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN. I PHONED PHIL WHITE FORD ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AFTER THAT AND WAS ALWAYS TOLD THEY STILL DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS. NOW I HAVE A NEW FORD, SAME RECALL. IT APPEARS THEY ARE STILL USING THE DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL PART THAT HAVE BEEN USED FOR THE PAST 6 OR SO YEARS. *TR
VEHICLE DASH LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON WHEN VEHICLE OFF. DOOR LOCKS WOULD LOCK AND UNLOCK BY THEMSELVES WHILE DRIVING. AND WHILE THE TRUCK WAS OFF. VEHICLE WOULD BE COMPLETELY DEAD WHEN GO TO START. AFTER REPLACING WITH A NEW BATTERY, TRUCK WOULD NOT START. HAD A TOW TRUCK COME AND WHEN HE TRIED TO START IT, IT STARTED RIGHT UP. AFTER HE SHUT OFF, IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD WOULD NOT START. TOOK TRUCK TO GARAGE. IT TOOK MECHANICS 5 HOURS TO FIND THE PROBLEM. AFTER CHECKING ALL THE RELAYS AND FUSE BOXES, ETC. IT ENDED UP TO BE THE FUSEBOX UNDER THE DASH. THE FUSEBOX WAS CORRODED AND DETERIORATING DUE TO WATER DAMAGE, WHICH WAS CAUSING THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF LEAK FROM THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING WATER TO ENTER THE FUSEBOX. THUS CAUSING THE FUSEBOX DAMAGE. THE MECHANICS REPLACED THE FUSEBOX AND A RELAY. I DO HAVE THE OLD ONE THAT WAS DAMAGED. HE SAID THE WINDSHIELD NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OUT TO BE RESEALED ON REINSTALLING. WHICH NEEDS TO BE DONE YET. HE SAID I WAS LUCKY NOT TO HAVE ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS WHILE DRIVING OR SHORTING WHICH COULD LEAD TO A FIRE PROBLEM. *TR
SPARK PLUG EJECTION ON 2002 FORD F150 5.4L V-8 ENGINE. *TR
MY 2002 FORD F150 NEEDED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. MY OVERDRIVE LIGHT WAS BLINKING ON AND OFF AND I LATER FOUND OUT THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REBUILT. I'VE BEEN READING ONLINE FROM SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT SEEMS LIKE FORD HAS SOME TYPE OF PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE CAN NOT BE A RECALL IN REGARDS TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 FORD F-150 SUPERCREW, ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO MY ELECTRICAL PANEL STARTED HAVING A MIND OF ITS OWN EVERYTIME IT RAINS. MY RADIO, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, BLINKERS, TAIL LIGHTS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS GO OFF AND ON. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN SEVERAL ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE BECAUSE OF WINDSHIELD WIPERS NOT WORKING AND ALSO BECAUSE OF BLINKERS NOT WORKING. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE AND I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD FIX THIS SINCE IT IS DEFINITELY SEVERAL LARGE SAFETY ISSUES. *TR
1) I NOTICED THAT MY RPMS WERE NOT RETURNING TO NORMAL AND MY VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO STOP COMPLETELY. 2) I OWN A 2002 FORD EXPLORER XLS 4X4 WITH THE SOHC 4.0 LITER ENGINE. THE THROTTLE CABLE STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SURGE UNCONTROLLABLY AT APPROXIMATELY 5000 RPMS. I HAD TO TURN OFF MY IGNITION TO AVOID CRASHING THE VEHICLE INTO NEARBY TRAFFIC. OTA HAS RECEIVED REPORTS OF THIS PROBLEM, NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE05037, BUT CLOSED THE CASE ON NOVEMBER 2, 2005. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS CRASH. I BELIEVE THAT OTA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AS IT DID FOR CAMPAIGN #03V280000. 3) I WILL BE CONTACTING FORD TOMORROW TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
APPARENTLY THE NHTSA MUST NEED MORE COMPLAINTS OR A DEATH TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE. SECOND PENDING FIX 9-23-2009 95,000. AFTER HAVING READ ALL THESE COMPLAINTS AND RELIVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AGAIN THROUGH THIS WEBSITE, AND I'M SURE MANY MORE UNDOCUMENTED COMPLAINTS. I AM NOW ON MY SECOND FIX. FIRST TIME 3 SPARK PLUGS THROUGH THE ENGINE. HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY SO FORD DID A BAND AID FIX ( SURPRISE ) NOW HERE WE ARE A YEAR LATER AND WE NEED SURGERY $4900 JUST TO PUT A NEW HEAD ON ONE SIDE. WHAT IS BEING DONE TO HOLD FORD ACCOUNTABLE FOR A KNOWN DEFECT. THE OPPORTUNITY FOR FIRE AND/OR DEATH IS VERY HIGH AND YET THIS PROBLEM IS NOT IMPORTANT TO ANYONE EXCEPT FOR LETTING FORD GET RICH ON THEIR KNOWN DEFECT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. HE DISCOVERED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE CENTER BETWEEN THE REAR WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE NORMAL BRAKE LINE, CAUSING THE CABLE TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER TOOK A COMPLAINT AND FORWARD IT TO THE PROPER OFFICE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 148,000. UPDATED 02-14-08. *KB
2002 FORD F-150 WINDSHIELD LEAKS CAUSING DAMAGE TO ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (FUSE BOX AND ELECTRICAL MODULE). MANY ISSUE HAPPENING INCLUDING WINDSHIELD WIPERS NOT WORKING AND SHORTING OUT THE AIRBAG DEACTIVATION SWITCH. WINDSHIELD REPAIR FACILITY STATES THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE PRIMING OF THE WINDSHIELDS AT INSTALLATION IN MANUFACTURING. ALSO STATES IT MIGHT CAUSE A POTENTIAL FOR THE WINDSHIELD TO EJECT ITSELF DURING A ROLLOVER REDUCING STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE CAB. DEALER WHO IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM STATED IT WAS NOT A KNOWN ISSUE BUT RESEARCH STATES OTHERWISE AS WELL AS A LETTER FROM FORD TO THE DEALERSHIPS EXPLAINING THE ISSUE - #15773. *TR
2002 FORD EXPLORER VERY COLD NIGHT NOTICED A HUGE CRACK IN THE REAR PANEL BELOW REAR WINDOW RIGHT OUT OF NOWHERE THE CAR WAS FINE HOURS BEFORE AND AS I WALKED PAST IT AGAIN SAW A HUGE CRACK BY THE EMBLEM AND UNDER.*CN
I WAS RETURNING FROM WORK ON 1/2/08 WHEN MY 2002 FORD F-150 (TRITON 5.4L) BEGAN TO POP AND RUN ROUGH, I SMELLED GASOLINE IN THE CAB OF THE TRUCK AND PULLED RIGHT OVER, UPON LOOKING AT THE ENGINE I NOTICED THE #3 PLUG LYING ON TOP OF THE ENGINE, IT HAD BLOWN OUT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE DRIVER SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. SHE INITIALLY THOUGHT THAT THE MUFFLER FAILED. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STALL OR OVERHEAT. SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT DUE TO THE ALUMINUM HEAD ON THE ENGINE. THE MECHANIC PERFORMED A HEALIE CORE AND REPLACED THE PLUG. THE VEHICLE DROVE NORMALLY FOR OVER A YEAR BEFORE THE FAILURE RECURRED. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. SHE DROVE APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE AND THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A DEFECTIVE CYLINDER, WHICH CAUSED IT TO BLOW OUT THE SPARK PLUGS. THE MECHANIC FURTHER STATED THAT IT WAS A VERY COMMON ISSUE AND NO RECALL WAS AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT IS WAITING FOR A CALL BACK FROM A FORD SUPERVISOR. SHE BELIEVES THAT FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 FORD TAURUS I EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE OF BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS WHICH CUT OPEN LIKE A CAN OPENER ONE FRONT TIRES AND DAMAGED THE OTHER. I HAD TO HAVE BOTH TIRES AND SPRINGS REPLACED. IF I WAS TRAVELING MORE THAN 15 MPH I FEAR I WOULD NOT BE HERE TODAY.*CN
DRIVING MY VEHICLE WITH MY 2 CHILDREN 2 AND 10 YEAR. DROPPING THE 2 YEAR OLD OFF TO SCHOOL. 2002 FORD F150 5.4 LITER ENGINE 2 MONTHS AGO I HAD A SPARK PLUG THREAD FAILURE ON MY F150. IT COST 400.00 TO REPR THE VEHICLE SO THAT IT COULD BE DRIVEN. 1500 MILES LATER I HAVE ANOTHER THREAD FAILURE CAUSING ANOTHER PLUG TO BE SPIT OUT OF MY6 CYLINDER HEAD. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY DEALERSHIPS AND MECHANICS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT I CAN REPLACE THE HEADS WITH NEW ONES BUT THAT THEY CAN NOT GUARANTEE THAT IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. OR I CAN HAVE BOTH HEADS REMOVED AND HAVE INSERTS MACHINED INTO THE HEADS TO PREVENT ANYTHING FROM FAILING AGAIN. THE COST OF THIS PROCESS IS 2200.00. I HAVE NOW SPENT 2600.00 ON THE ENGINE IN 2 MONTHS TIME DUE TO A IMPROPER MANUFACTURING OF THE HEADS THAT WERE MADE FOR THIS ENGINE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A DEFECT RECALL MADE ON THE HEADS AND POSSIBLY BE REIMBURSED FOR SOME OF THE EXPENSE. *TR
I PUT MY KEY IN, TURNED IT ON AND WENT TO SHIFT IN TO DRIVE AND THE SHIFTER CAME RIGHT OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS IN BETWEEN GEARS.*CN
11/21/07 TOOK 2002 FORD F150 TO MEINEKE COMPLAINT OF CRUISE CONTROL NOT WORKING. WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE $80 TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY AT THE TIME SO I DROVE HOME. 11/28/07 6:55 A.M. AWOKE TO NEIGHBORS BEATING ON DOOR BECAUSE F-150 WAS ON FIRE WITNESS SAID SAW FIRE DRIPPING FROM THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE UNDER THE HOOD. 11/28/07 FIRE DEPARTMENT ADVISED OF RECALL FOR EXACT SAME THING F-150 ENGINE FIRES. 11/28/07 CONTACTED INSURANCE COMPANY TO FIND OUT IT ONLY COVERED THE VEHICLE AND THE LOAN COMPANY. THANK GOD I NEVER GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT. THERE WAS NO PROPERTY DAMAGE OR LIABILITY ON THE VEHICLE THE LOAN COMPANY PLACED IT ON THERE AND I CANCELED MY OTHER BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS CHEAPER INSURANCE.11/28/07 SEARCHED INTERNET FOUND OVER TWO THOUSAND CASES OF SAME EXACT THING PEOPLE AWAKE TO VEHICLE FIRES DUE TO FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. ALL PICTURES MATCHED MY TRUCK EXACTLY WITH THE BURN PATTERN,HAVING THE MOST INTENSE HEAT ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE. 2002 EXPLORER XLT PURCHASED 1/03 WITH 37,995 MILES. NOW ONLY 39,996 I AM DISABLED AND DON'T DRIVE MUCH. HAD VEHICLE IN DUE TO WARRANTY OVER 11/26/07 TO CHECK THINGS OVER. WHEN I PICKED UP CAR AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT FLASHING. THOUGH IT WAS DUE TO THEIR WORK BECAUSE IT STOPPED. NEXT TIME USED VEHICLE LIGHT FLASHING THEN STAYED ON PERMANENTLY. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY CLAIM IT THROWS A CODE #B2292, THEY ALSO SAID A BULLETIN OUT FROM FORD ON THIS #TSB03-11-03 ISSUED TO ALL MECHANICS - THAT THE PRETENSIONER SAFETY HARNESS BOTH NEED TO BE REPLACED (DEFECT). I ADVISED THEM I WILL DISPUTE THIS DUE TO THE FACT THEY ALSO STATED FORD MAY BE DOING A RECALL. I CLAIM VEHICLE FINE TILL THEY WORKED ON IT. PART COMES IN TOMORROW, THEY SAY IT SHOULD BE READY IN A FEW HOURS, AND COST IS AROUND $295.. PLUS TAXES. ALSO HAD TO HAVE A REBUILT TRANY DONE LAST YR. VEHICLE POPPED OUT A SPARK PLUG FROM THE #7 CYLINDER UPON STARTING VEHICLE. SPARK PLUG WAS FOUND ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, COIL STILL PROVIDING SPARK. UNBRUNT FUEL MIXTURE WAS BEING VENTED FROM THE CYLINDER INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT FIRE HAZARD. *TR

WE HAVE BEEN HEARING A CLICKING OR TAPPING SOUND FROM THE 2002 F150 PICKUP FOR ABOUT A MONTH. AFTER TWO COMPLETE INSPECTIONS OF THE SUSPENSION AND STEERING WE DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. TODAY WHILE ROCKING THE PICKUP, WE DISCOVERED THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE BED IS LOOSE. THERE IS AT LEAST A 1/16" OF VERTICAL MOVEMENT. AT THIS POINT WE CHECK OUR 2003 F150 PICKUP, THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE BED IS LOOSE. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP (HILLARD AUTO) REGARDING A RECALL. THEY INDICATE THAT THERE IS NO RECALL. THEY ALSO INDICATE THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, THAT I FIND HARD TO BELIEVE SINCE I OWN TWO F150S AND THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS ALL FINE UNTIL ONE OF THESE TRUCKS HAS THE BED COME LOOSE WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY. WAS THERE A CRASH TODAY? NO, WE CAUGHT THE PROBLEM IN TIME. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, WE WILL PULL THE PLASTIC BED LINER AND TIGHTEN THE BOLTS OURSELVES SINCE I AM OPPOSED TO PAYING SOMEONE TO CORRECT THEIR MISTAKES AND LACK OF QUALITY CONTROL. *TR
DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON RANDOMLY, TURNING ON INTERIOR LIGHTS AND LOCKING AND UNLOCKING DOORS WHILE DRIVING. IN ADDITION TO BEING DISTRACTING, IT IS PARTICULARLY UNSAFE AT NIGHT TO SUDDENLY HAVE THE INTERIOR LIGHTS COME ON AND UNABLE TO KEEP DOORS LOCKED. FORD SAYS ISSUE IS A DOOR SENSOR, BUT CANNOT TELL WHICH ONE IS BAD. THIS USED TO HAPPEN OCCASIONALLY, NOW IT HAPPENS AT LEAST EVERY OTHER DAY. *TR
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, THE GEAR SHIFTER ON THE COLUMN BROKE IN 1/2 WHILE PASSING INTO THE NUETRAL POSITION. BROKEN PIECE IN POSSESSION. TRUCK WAS THEN STUCK IN NUETRAL WITH SHIFTER HANGING BY A WIRE. FOUND 2ND 2002 EXPLORER AT DEALER # 2 WITH GEAR SHIFTER BREAKING IN 1/2. *TR
BEGINNING OF 2006, I PURCHASED MY USED 2002 FORD EXPLORER. AROUND 70,000 MILES, ABOUT 9 MONTHS LATER, THE ROARING NOISE IN THE REAR WAS UNBEARABLE. I PUT ALL NEW TIRES,I PUT ALL NEW BRAKES THINKING THIS WAS CAUSING THE NOISE. FINALLY I WENT ONLINE TO FIND THE MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE REAR END NOISE. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALLS, EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE, BECAUSE IT IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. THEY SUGGESTED I HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. ON 10/20/07, I HAD THIS DIAGNOSIS DONE, AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL AND WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE, OR DRIVE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE IT COULD CEASE UP WHILE DRIVING, AND CAN BE A SAFTEY ISSUE IF UNIT FAILS. THE COST OF THIS REPAIR, PARTS AND LABOR IS ABOUT $1200. IS FORD WAITING FOR THIS TO CEASE UP, CAUSING INJURIES OR DEATHS BEFORE THEY DEEM IT A SAFTEY ISSUE, AND RECALL THESE VEHICLES FOR REPAIR. I WAS SCARED AND UPSET, AND I ENDED UP TAKING IT IN AGAIN! WE FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON 2002 FORD ESCAPES WITH 3.0L V6 ENGINES FOR THE PCM ON DECELERATIONS BELOW 40 MPH BECAUSE OF FUEL-AIR MIXTURES BEING SENT TO THE ENGINE. IT WAS ISSUED IN APRIL OF 2004. I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY, MY DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM, AND ANOTHER DEALER CLOSE TO ME; THEY ALL SAID THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON MY ESCAPE. I LOOKED IT UP MYSELF AND THEY WERE CORRECT, BUT IF THIS RECALL WAS ALREADY FIXED THEN IT WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT FIXED CORRECTLY BECAUSE THE EXACT DEFINIATION OF THE RECALL IS WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH MY ESCAPE. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT I THINK FORD NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE MY EXCEPTION AND KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT BECAUSE THE ENGINE NEEDS TO "RE-PROGRAM" ITSELF FOR A FEW WEEKS. IT IS A RECALL AND I THINK IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED FOR FREE, LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. PULLED 2002 FORD EXPLORER INTO COVERED SPACE AT APARTMENT COMPLEX AND PROCEEDED TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PUT THE CAR INTO THE PARK THE GEAR SHIFT BROKE OFF FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS NOT USED AND NEVER IN MY WILDEST DREAMS DID I EVER IMAGINE THIS TYPE OF FAILURE ON A CAR. LATER I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2002 FORD EXPLORER. I CAN'T START THE CAR SINCE IT IS NOT IN PARK OR NEUTRAL. HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AND ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET THE REPLACEMENT PART IS BACK ORDERED UNTIL MID NOVEMBER. SO, FORD IS OK WITH HAVING A PRODUCT ON THE ROAD THAT I CANNOT DRIVE FOR 1.5 MONTHS BECAUSE OF A BAD PART? IT APPEARS THE BAD PART IS MADE OF ALUMINUM WHICH IS SHOCKING. WILL HAVE TO GET A RENTAL FOR THE ENTIRE TIME I AM WITHOUT THE CAR. THIS KIND OF FAILURE IS UNACCEPTABLE AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. *TR

I AM AN OWNER OF A 2002 FORD EXPLORER 2WD. AT THE BEGINNING OF OCTOBER THE VEHICLE STARTING MAKING A HORRIBLE NOISE. THE LOUD NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL. FORD MOTOR COMPANY DOES NOT INSTALL THE FUSE NECESSARY TO OPERATE THE TOWING HARNESS LAMPS ON THE 2002 F150. LOCAL FORD DEALER INSTALLED A FUSE AND THEN DISCOVERED THAT THE PIN BENEATH THE FUSE BOX WAS BENT. THE FUSE BOX HAD TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO STRAIGHTEN OUT THE PIN AND THEN RE-INSTALLED. FORD REFUSED TO COVER THE COST ($200.00) SAYING THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. CONTENTION IS THAT THIS EITHER CAME FROM THE FACTORY THIS WAY OR THE DEALER BENT THE PIN WHEN THEY INSTALLED THE FUSE. NEITHER FORD MOTOR COMPANY OR THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WILL ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. THE BENT PIN MADE THE PARKING LAMPS INOPERABLE WHICH WOULD BE HAZARDOUS FOR TOWING ANYTHING AT NIGHT. *TR
SPIDER GEARS IN DIFFERENTIAL BLEW OUT FOR 2ND TIME ON THIS TRUCK WHICH IS A 2002 F-150 4X4 WITH A 3.55 DIFF. THE FIRST TIME WAS AT AROUND 45K MI.AND THIS TIME AT 83.5K MILES.
