2002 FORD F-150 5.4L V-8 ENGINE HAS A BLOWN SPARK PLUG, FORD REFUSES TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE HEAD FAILURE. THEY MAKE A KIT FROM A 1987 OR SO ESCORT THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY FIXED THOSE VEHICLES. *TR
#3 S PARKPLUG BLEW OUT OF HEAD AND ALSO BROKE COIL ON PLUG. FORD SERVICE SHOP INSTALLED HELICOIL TO FIX PROBLEM AND REPLACED COIL ON PLUG. ALSO HAD FORD SERVICE LOOK AT NOISY AC BLOWER MOTOR FAN AND IT WAS ALSO BAD. VEHICLE IS A 2002 FORD F150 SUPERCREW 5.4L WITH ONLY 28,500 ON IT. DID NOT KEEP PARTS. VEHICLE OUT OF WARRANTY BUT I CALLED CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND THEY ONLY COVERED ABOUT 1/3 OF COST TO REPAIR SPARK PLUG PROBLEM AND NONE OF THE AC BLOWER. *TR
MY F-150 PICKUP JUST STARTED SMOKING THEN WITH IN SECONDS WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES RESULTING IN ME JUMPING OUT TO SAVE OWN LIFE. THANKFULLY NO ONE ELSE WAS WITH ME. *JB
DRIVER SIDE WINDOW LEAKS/ HAS LEAKED WATER DURING LIGHT RAIN STORMS FAILURE IS SQUEALS AS DRIVING AT 50 MPH PRONE TO LEAK AND FUSE BOX IS RIGHT BELOW WINDOW NEW WINDOW SEAL WILL NEED TO BE INSTALLED AND YES OLD PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. *TR
TIRE TREAD PEALED OFF MY TIRE CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGES TO MY SIDE STEP, THE METAL AROUND MY TIRE WHEEL GOT BENT UP INTO MY DOOR AND TORE OFF ALL MY WHEEL WELL PLASTIC. ALMOST CAUSED MY FRONT BUMPER TO COME OFF IT IS NOW TORN ON THAT SIDE AND A PLASTIC PIECE UNDER THE BUMPER IS BARELY HANGING IN THERE. I STILL HAVE THE TIRE AS IT DIDN'T DEFLATE. MY STEERING WHEEL CLICKS AND MAKES MY CAR SKIP WHEN I MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN. AS IF THE TIRES ARE NOT TURNING CORRECTLY. THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON! *TR
ENGAGE CLUTCH PEDAL AND CLUTCH PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THEY HAVE A PLASTIC BUSHING THAT GOES AROUND A STEEL BALL FITTING TO HOLD CLUTCH CABLE TO CLUTCH PEDAL. IT IS SO BAD I CARRY EXTRA PLASTIC BUSHINGS WITH ME IN CASE OF FAILURE. MY CONCERN IS THAT WHEN I HAVE A FULLY LOADED TRUCK WITH CAMPER AND HORSE TRAILER IN TOE. I AM STUCK WITH A TRUCK STUCK IN GEAR AND NO WAY TO DISENGAGE CLUTCH. EVEN EMPTY THIS IS A SCARY UNCOMFORTABLE EXPERIENCE. THEY SHOULD HAVE A SOLID PIN FOR A CONNECTION NOT A CHEAP $5.00 PART THAT BREAKS EVERY 30,000 MILES. I HOPE THIS CAN BE CORRECTED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR
THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE FLAWED DESIGN OF FORD EXPLORER LIFTGATES. 2002 AND 2003 VEHICLES WERE AFFECTED, BUT I WAS SURE THERE WERE MORE. THE BACK PANEL CRACKED COMPLETELY DOWN THE PANEL SEPARATING THE TWO SIDES. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE END RESULT COULD BE BUT IT CERTAINLY LOOKED LIKE A PIECE COULD FLY OFF AND INTERFERE WITH FOLLOWING VEHICLES. THERE WERE HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS OF THESE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD WITH THE SAME EXACT CRACK, AND FORD RECEIVED HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS BUT REFUSED TO FIX IT SO FAR. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPARK PLUG INJECTION ON THE NUMBER THREE CYLINDER IS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN SPILLING RAW FUEL INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. HE HAS TAKEN HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT JUST HAPPENS AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALER, WHERE IT HAS BEEN FOR ELEVEN DAYS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 104,000. IN THE MIDDLE OF JULY OF 07, MY WIFE, GRANDDAUGHTER AND I WERE COMING HOME FROM VACATION IN IDAHO, BY YORK, NE. THE TRUCK WAS ALL OF A SUDDEN RUNNING ROUGH. I WAS UNABLE TO FIND A MECHANIC TO LET ME KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG. I HAD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. I CALLED MY SON IN IDAHO, WHO IS A MECHANIC AND HE LISTENED TO THE VEHICLE OVER THE PHONE. HE TOLD ME THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE A SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT. I LOOKED AND SAW THE PLUG ON TOP OF THE ENGINE. I CALLED AROUND AND FOUND OUT IT WAS GOING TO COST OVER 2000.00 FOR THE JOB. THEN I FOUND OUT THAT FORD HAD MADE A KIT FOR IT. IN OVER 40 YEARS OF DRIVING I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. IF FORD MADE A KIT FOR IT, THEN IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY SHOULD EITHER FIX THE PROBLEM OR INFORM CUSTOMERS ABOUT IT. *TR
TRUCK WAS DRIVEN TO WORK AND AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES THE TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. THE TRUCK FROM ENGINE TO CAB WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE BURNED THE ENGINE, THE HOOD MELTED OFF, THE TIRES MELTED, SOME WINDOWS WERE GONE,AND THE FABRIC OFF THE SEATS WERE BURNED OFF. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR SAID IT WAS A MECHANICAL FAILURE AND HE KNEW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CRUISE CONTROL MECHANISM. TRUCK WAS A TOTAL LOSS. I NEVER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE.*JB
THE WINDSHIELD OF MY F150 FORD KING RANCH LEAKS AND HAS DONE DAMAGE TO THE FUSE BOX AND RUST IS OCCURRING IN LOCATIONS NOT EASILY ACCESSED BY WATER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING ON AN UNPAVED ROAD, THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE. HE THEN RELEASED THE BRAKE AND APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. HE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES FELT LOOSE AND THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE. SHE DISCOVERED A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 82,063.
2002 EXPLORER AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS LIT CAME ON AND NEVER WENT OFF WAS WONDERING IF THERE'S A RECALL TO HAVE FORD FIX THERE MISTAKE. *TR
WE HAVE A FORD F150 BOSS TRUCK (2002) THAT HAS ONLY 30,000 MILES ON IT. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT YESTERDAY. THE TRUCK HAS ABSOLUTELY NOT HAD A HARD LIFE. WE TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF OUR VEHICLES. *AK
THE DOME LIGHT ON THE 2002 FORD ESCAPE 3.0L CAUSED BURNING ON THE SUNROOF SLIDING COVER WHEN THE COVER WAS OPENED. THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO STARTING A FIRE, ALTHOUGH NOW THEREWAS ONLY A SLOW BURN. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT SEAT BELTS UNFASTENED APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 4 TIMES WHILE DRIVING. FORD STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OVER 50,000 MILES AND NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THEREFORE THEY COULD NOT BE OF ASSISTANCE. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, PURCHASE DATE, AND SPEED WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THAT HAS OCCURRED SINCE I PURCHASED MY 2002 FORD F-150 SPORT NEW. MY DRIVER SIDE SEATBELT UNBUCKLES ON ITS OWN AS I DRIVE. I HAVE WORN SEATBELTS SINCE THE LATE 1960'S AND DO NOT EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM IN THE OTHER 4 VEHICLES I DRIVE. IT IS TERRIFYING TO THINK THAT THE SEATBELT MAY NOT WORK IN A TIME OF EMERGENCY WHEN IT IS NEEDED. UNFORTUNATELY, I NEVER SEEM TO THINK OF THIS PROBLEM WHEN I TAKE THE TRUCK IN FOR FORD DEALER SERVICE. I WILL MAKE A POINT TO DO SO NEXT TIME I AM IN FOR SERVICE. THIS EVENT HAS OCCURRED TWICE IN THE PAST WEEK. FOR NOW, I TUG ON THE SEATBELT WHEN I BUCKLE UP TO SEE IF THE BELT IS LOCKED OR I THINK IT IS LOCKED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. APPROXIMATELY FIVE MONTHS LATER, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. HE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER, BUT THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FIRE BURNED HIS LANDSCAPING AND HIS GARDEN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 84,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F150 HARLEY DAVIDSON. ON JANUARY 3, 2008, A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT. ON MAY 31, 2008, WHILE AT A CAR WASH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SAME SPARK PLUG FROM THE SOLENOID HAD BLOWN AGAIN, WHICH ALSO BLEW THE ENGINE HEAD. THE REPAIR IS EXPECTED TO COST BETWEEN $2,200, AND $5,000. ALSO, IN DECEMBER OF 2007, THE SUNROOF MOTOR SHORTED AND NO LONGER WORKS. SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST $1,000, AND HAS NOT USED THE SUNROOF SINCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 143,000.
I TOOK THE KIDS TO THE BABYSITTER AND WENT TO PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK AND THE GEAR SHIFTER BROKE OFF INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN. IT HAS ALWAYS HAD A PLACE WHERE THE SHIFTER LEVER WOULD KIND OF CATCH BETWEEN REVERSE AND PARK AND YOU HAD TO WIGGLE IT WHEN PUTTING IT INTO PARK . I WAS TOLD IT HAD TO HAVE A NEW STEERING COLUMN THAT IS $500+ NOT INCLUDING LABOR. I THINK THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. WHAT IF IT HAPPENED GOING DOWN THE ROAD OR WHEN MY 15 YEAR OLD [BEGINNER DRIVER] WAS DRIVING. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS NOR ON THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AAA FOR A DIAGNOSIS. I WOKE UP LAST WEEK TO THE SOUND OF A CAR ALARM. I LOOKED OUTSIDE AND THE FRONT OF MY FORD F 150 WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. IT WAS SO HOT THE TIRES MELTED INTO THE DRIVEWAY. WE HAD NOT DRIVEN THE TRUCK IN SEVERAL DAYS. IT APPEARS THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE AS THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE IS INCINERATED. *TR

THE FIBERGLASS PIECE ON THE HATCHBACK OF THE VEHICLE IS CONSTANTLY CRACKING AND FALLING OFF WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. THIS IS A ROAD AND SAFETY HAZARD, AS MY PIECE CAME OFF WHILE DRIVING 55MPH. I AM CONTINUOUSLY SEEING OTHER EXPLORERS OF THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND CONDUCT A RECALL. FURTHERMORE, THIS FAULTY PIECE IS OFFERED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR REPLACEMENT AT OVER $300! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150 HARLEY DAVIDSON EDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS HAVE BEEN BACKING OUT. AS A RESULT, THE FAILURE HAS BLOWN THE COIL AND DAMAGED THE HEAD, WHICH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER HAS WITNESSED THIS FAILURE BEFORE, BUT CANNOT OFFER AN EXPLANATION. ACCORDING TO A SITE THAT THE CONTACT VISITED, THIS HAS BEEN A FAILURE WITH THE SUPERCHARGED VEHICLES. HE HAS NOTIFIED FORD, BUT THEY HAVE NOT YET RESPONDED. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE MIRRORS ON BOTH MY 2002 FORD SPORT TRAC AND 2002 FORD RANGER DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE MIRRORS (X4) ARE ELECTRIC AND WILL NOT MOVE TO THE RIGHT. THEY WORK IN THE AXIS OF LEFT, UP, AND DOWN. FORD F 150 NUMBER 3 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. 2002 WITH 90000 MILES. *JB
ON APRIL 17, I NOTICED A WHISTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE, BUT COULD NOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE SOUND, AND THOUGHT IT WAS A VACUUM LINE LEAK. I STARTED THE TRUCK ON THE MORNING OF APRIL 14 AND I HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND FOLLOWED BY A SMALL BLACK CLOUD, UPON EXAMINING UNDER THE HOOD, I FOUND THE #3 SPARK PLUG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE HOLE AND THE COIL HAD BEEN BLOWN OFF WITH IT, BREAKING THE PLASTIC THAT HAD A STEEL INSERT THAT WAS SCREWED DOWN TO THE BLOCK. I TRIED TO REPLACE THE SPARK PLUG, BUT COULD NOT GET IT STARTED IN TO THE THREADS ON THE HEAD. I FOUND OUT THAT O'REILY'S SELLS A CYLINDER HEAD REPAIR KIT # 42025 SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS PROBLEM, IT HAD A INSERT THAT YOU SCREWED INTO THE HEAD AND IT WAS THREADED ON THE INSIDE TO ACCEPT A EXTENDED LENGTH SPARK PLUG THAT WAS INCLUDED IN THE KIT, I TRIED THIS KIT @ $64 DOLLARS PLUS THE NEW COIL @ $43, UPON COMPLETING THE WORK WITH THE KIT AND THE NEW COIL INSTALLED, I STARTED THE TRUCK AND STILL HAD THE SAME WHISTLING PROBLEM AND WAS LOSING COMPRESSION, I CONTACTED A LOCAL MECHANIC, AND FOUND OUT FROM HIM THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND HE SEE THIS SAME PROBLEM ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS OR SO, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO HIM AND HE WORKED ON IT FOR APPROX. 6 HOURS AND HAS THE PROBLEM FIXED, HOWEVER, HE SAID HE COULDN'T PROMISE THAT THIS IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN, TO THE SAME PLUG OR OTHERS. IF FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WHY WON'T ANYBODY MAKE THEM FIX IT AND MAKE IT RIGHT FOR THE LITTLE GUY (CONSUMERS?) *TR
I HAVE A 2002 FORD F-150 WITH 65,000 MILES ON IT. IT IS THE 4.2 LITER V-6 THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. THE MOTOR THREW A ROD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND STOPPED WITH A LOUD BANGING AND THE COST WAS 5,000 FOR A NEW LONG BLOCK BY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. I HAVE LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND SEEN HUNDREDS OF FOLKS HAVING TO HAVE THEIR SAME V-6 ENGINE GO OUT PREMATURELY. FROM 40,000 TO 100,000 MILES. THE PLASTIC INTAKE GASKETS ARE FAULTY AND IT GETS COOLANT ON THE SPARK PLUG IN CYLINDER AND MOTOR GOES OUT BY THROWING A ROD. FORD DOES NOT ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS LEMON ENGINE THAT SEEMS TO HAVE MANY DESIGN FLAWS STARTING FROM 1997 WHEN THEY STARTED PUTTING IT IN THEIR VEHICLES. *TR UPDATED 09/19/07 *TR
2002 FORD F150 TRUCK THAT CAUGHT FIRE CUSTOMER STATES THAT HE WAS TOLD THAT A FACTORY RECALL CAUSED THE FIRE**CC THE CONSUMER STATED ON 4/3/07 HE PARKED THE VEHICLE, SHORTLY THEREAFTER A COWORKER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TRUCK THAT CAUSED THE FIRE. THE CONSUMER CALLED FORD CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND INFORMED THEM OF THE INCIDENT AND THEY STATED THEY WOULD CONTACT HIM IN 7-10 DAYS. FORD STATED THEY SENT RECALL NOTICES AND WAS NOT LIABLE FOR FIXING THE DEFECT. *TR
ON MY FORD F-150 TRUCK THE #3 HEAD BLEW THE SPARK PLUG OUT. THIS RESULTED IN ME NEEDING TO TOW THE VEHICLE AND HAVE A HELI-COIL DONE TO IT. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME THING BEING REPORTED OVER AND OVER AT COMSUMERAFFAIRS.COM I ALSO KNOW OF 7 OTHER PEOPLE WITHIN THE DES MOINES, IOWA METRO WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. IT COST ME APPROXIMATELY $500.00 PLUS REANTAL VEHICLE EXPENSES, WHICH I HAVEN'T RECIEVED THE COMPLETE BILL FOR YET.*AK

75400 MILES. NOISE FROM REAR END BECOMING MORE NOTICEABLE. ALSO, THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY WON'T SHIFT FROM 2ND TO 3RD. DEALER DIAGNOSED THE REAR END PROBLEM AS BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND PROBABLY THE REAR HUBS WERE BAD. THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FORD COSTUMER CARE CALLED ME AND AFTER LETTING ME TELL MY STORY SAID THERE WAS NO PROGRAM DOLLARS AVAILABLE FOR ASSISTING IN FIXING EITHER PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THE REAR END PROBLEM WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE PREVIOUS VISIT AT 74,400 MILES PER THE DEALERS RECOMMENDATION. ALSO INFORMED ME THAT NOT EVEN THE $500 WAS AVAILABLE ,AND THE OPERATOR HAD NO RIGHT TO OFFER THAT AMOUNT. TOOK THE CAR FROM THE DEALER AFTER PAYING $120, PLUS $100 CAR RENTAL THEY WOULD NOT COVE) SINCE THE MILEAGE WAS 400 OVER WARRANTY 75000 MILEAGE LIMIT TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM THEY FAILED TO CORRECTLY DIAGNOSE THE FIRST 2 TIMES. *AK
REAR COIL SPRING ON 2002 FORD TAURUS BROKE AND DAMAGED THE LEFT REAR TIRE. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT.
74400 MILES. NOISE COMING FROM REAR END AND FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE DRAGGING WHEN SLOWING DOWN. THE NOISE WAS WORSE WHEN ENGAGING THE 4-WD HIGH. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A BAD TRANSFER CASE ASSEMBLY. WAITED 2 DAYS BECAUSE THE FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE HAD TO APPROVE THE REPAIR. WAS TOLD THE MAIN SHAFT HAD CRACKED AND WAS ENGAGING THE 4-WD EVEN THOUGH IT DID NOT SHOW UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE IT SEEMED TO BE BETTER EVEN THOUGH NOT COMPLETELY GONE. MY MISTAKE FOR NOT RETURNING THE TRUCK BECAUSE IT STARTED TO GET WORSE AT 75400 , AND NOW THE FORD CUSTOM CARE CERTIFIED THE TRUCK AS A USED CAR COVERING DRIVE TRAIN UNTIL 75000 MILES, AND IT WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE ANY FURTHER WORK EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM STILL HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS FROM 2 OTHER VISITS AT THE SAME DEALER. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IN THE CAR POOL LANE DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WHEN THE NUMBER THREE SPARK PLUG WAS EJECTED FROM THE HEAD OF MY 2002 FORD F150 LIGHTNING. MY WIFE LOSS POWER. PURCHASED A USED 2002 EXPLORER IN 12/2005. IN 2/2007, A GRINDING NOISE APPEARED WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE. TOOK IT IN THE SAME DAY (I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN IT OCCURRED). THEY TOLD ME THE BEARING WAS BAD AND THAT I NEEDED ABOUT $1100 IN PARTS AND $600 IN LABOR TO REPLACE, AND THAT I WAS LUCKY THAT THE WHEEL DID NOT FALL OFF. HE STATED THAT, "THIS IS COMMON ON MOUNTAINEERS AND EXPLORERS," AND THAT HE HAS DONE SIMILAR WORK OTHER TIMES. FORD F-150 SUPER CREW 2002. DRIVER SEAT BELT POPS OFF WHILE DRIVING. FREQUENCY IS INCREASING. NOTIFIED FORD DEALER AT 28,177 MILES AFTER SEVERAL OCCURRENCES. DEALER COULD NOT REPEAT PROBLEM AND DISMISSED ISSUE. SEAT BELT ISSUE INCREASING IN FREQUENCY. DEALER AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SAY SEAT BELT IS NOT UNDER RECALL AND WILL NOT PAY TO REPLACE. THERE IS A 2001 F-150 RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE -- SEAT BELT INTERMITTENTLY FAILING, BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE 2002 MODELS. SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE SAME ISSUE ON THE SAME FORD F-150 2002 MODEL HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD SHOULD HAVE VOLUNTARILY REPAIRED WHEN FIRST DETECTED BY OWNER, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. 2002 FORD F150 SUPERCAB BURNED UP IN MY DRIVEWAY AT 5 AM IN THE MORNING. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR A DAY AND A HALF. WE WERE WOKEN UP BY THE CAR ALARM AND TWO LOUD BANGS. THE TRUCK WAS FULLY ENGULFED AND WAS ON FIRE NEXT TO THE HOUSE AND FENCE AND 2 OTHER CARS. THANK GOODNESS THE TRUCK WASN'T IN THE GARAGE OR PARKED FORWARD IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE FENCE WAS DESTROYED AND THE TWO VANS DAMAGED BY FLAMES. THE TRUCK WAS A TOTAL LOSS. FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT IT WAS A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL DEVICE. NOT DRIVEN FOR ALMOST TWO DAYS AND THE CRUISE CONTROL ALMOST KILLED MY FAMILY??? NOW WE ARE OUT THOUSANDS EVEN WITH INSURANCE COVERING PART OF THE LOSS. FORD HAD A RECALL ON THE HINGES OF THE GLASS PANEL ON THE HATCH OF THE TRUCK. I HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THE CAR PRIOR TO THAT REPLACEMENT. SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH THE DEALER & HAD THE RECALLED HINGES REPLACED. I BELIEVE THAT THE WORK MAY HAVE ADDED STRESS TO THE HATCH....SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED. I NOTICED IN THE MORNING OF 2/3/07 THAT THE BACK OF MY TRUCK HAD A HAIRLINE FRACTURE TO THE RIGHT OF THE FORD EMBLEM. THIS IS THE TRUCK PART THAT OPENS UP FOR ME TO PUT MY GROCERIES IN THE CAR & THE SAME PART THAT HAD THE RECALLED HINGES REPLACED. I TRULY BELIEVE IT IS A DESIGN FLAW/DEFECT IN THE WAY THE HATCH CLOSES & WITH THE BELOW ZERO TEMPERATURES - IT HAS ADDED STRESS TO THIS AREA. I STOPPED BY THE AUTOBODY SHOP & WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HATCH - I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE ESTIMATE - WHICH MAY BE WELL OVER $ 1K..... TWO OF THE FOUR 265-70-17 CONTITRAC SUV TIRES WITH 26,000 MILES THAT WERE INSTALLED AS REPLACEMENT TIRES ON MY 2002 FORD SUPERCREW HAVE BROKEN BELTS INSIDE THE TIRE IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS. THESE TIRES HAVE A BULGE THAT SHIFTS THE TREAD APX 2CM OVER AND UP 1CM. THIS MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP THE TRUCK ON THE ROAD AT 65 MPH. PURCHASED A 2002 FORD EXPLORER, FROM THE DEALERSHIP IN DECEMBER 2006. IN JANUARY 2007 I AWOKE TO CLEAR THE SNOW OFF MY VEHICLE WHEN I NOTICED A HUGE CRACK ON THE BACK PANEL UNDER THE TAILGATE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FORD IMMEDIATELY, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED DUE TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE, BUT THAT IT WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. WHEN TEMPERATURES REACHED A HIGH THE CRACK THEN EXPANDED AND THE CRACK WAS NOT NOTICABLE. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE GOT COLD AGAIN THE CRACK WAS VERY APPARRENT. IN NOVEMBER 2002, I PURCHASED A 2002 FORD F-150 EXTENDED CAB, WHICH WAS MADE IN CANADA 09/01. AFTER THE BREAK-IN PERIOD I NOTICED THAT AT SPEEDS OF 80-85 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD WHINE , BUT I ASSUMED THAT WAS NORMAL BECAUSE AFTER 85 MPH THE WHINE WENT AWAY. AT ABOUT 89,000 MILES AND THE END OF THE WARRANTY, AT 35-50 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE LOUD ROARING/WHINING NOISE FROM THE REAR END. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS ON 10 JANUARY 2007,. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PINION GEAR AND ASSEMBLY AT A COST OF 1501.00 , AND THE DEALER SAID IT WAS FIXED. I DROVE THE VEHICLE LESS THAN 1,500 MILES AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE, THE VEHICLE STARTED DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN AT SPEEDS 40-50 MPH, BUT WITH AN ADDED TWIST THIS TIME, THE TRUCK WOULD WHINE EVEN WHEN I ACCELERATE. I PUT THE TRUCK BACK IN THE SHOP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN ON 01/23/2007. THE TRUCK HAS A 3.55 REAR END. *JB
