BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS POP OPEN DURING RIDE. *TR
2002 FORD F150 LIGHTNING, THREE BLOWN SPARK PLUGS. TWO WERE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, ONE OUT OF MY POCKET. FORD DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TRITON CYLINDER HEAD AND DID NOTHING ABOUT IT. FORD LEFT ME STRANDED THREE TIMES, TWICE ON THE FREEWAY. THANKS FORD. *NM
RUBBING NOISE IN THE REAR END. DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND REPLACED BEARINGS IN THE FRONT LEFT HUB. DEALER SAID 2 OF THE TIRES WERE BADLY CUPPED SO THE COULD NOT HEAR ANY OTHER PROBLEM. PROBLEM/NOISE STILL THERE. *AK
ON THURS. 12-07, I WAS DRIVING 40 MPH WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP, THE TRUCK WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND LOUD. I PULLED OVER, IT BLEW A SPARK PLUG(#4). TOWED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, WAS TOLD THE HEAD WOULD BE REPLACED, THEN WHEN I RETURNED FOR THE TRUCK WAS TOLD THEY WOULD ONLY REPAIR THE HOLE WITH A HELICOIL, WHICH I FOUND A SERVICE BULLETIN #0214 THAT STATES ENGINE ASSEMBLIES WITH ALUMINUM CYLINDER HEADS REPAIRED IN VEHICLE HAVE BEEN FOUND TO LEAK COOLANT AND/ OR OIL FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD GASKET AREA. THE DEALERSHIP SEEMS TO THINK THIS IS TRIVIAL, AND REFUSES TO REPLACE THE HEAD UNDER WARRANTY. TRUCK IS AN '02 F-150 LIGHTNING. 5.4 MOTOR. *NM
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND HEARD A LOUD POP. HIS TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A FORD DEALER AND WE WERE TOLD IT WAS THE #3 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT. WARRANTY COMPANY REFUSES TO FIX IT. I HAVE HAD TO LOSE 2 WEEKS OF WORK SO FAR SO THAT MY HUSBAND CAN GO TO WORK. IT IS COSTING US $2400.00 TO FIX HIS TRUCK. WE HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. *JB
THE REAR PASSENGER SAFETY BELT BUCKLE HAS BROKEN THROUGH NORMAL USE. THE DEALERSHIP STATES IT IS NOT COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS A RULING PERTAINING TO SAFETY BELTS THAT STATES ANY VEHICLE LESS THAN 7 YEARS OLD, THOSE SAFETY BELTS WOULD BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *NM
THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ERRATIC AT TIMES, OK ON START UPS. BUT WHILE IN USE IT WOULD DROP TO ZERO AND THE OIL LIGHT WOULD COME ON. IF YOU SHUT VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART OIL GAUGE WOULD GO BACK TO OK. UNTIL YOU START DRIVING. *JB
DROVE MY 2002 F 150 APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES HOME AND PARKED IT. THE TRUCK HAS NEVER GIVEN ME ANY PROBLEMS AND WASN'T MAKING ANY NOISE. ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER I NOTICED A ORANGE FIRE BALL REALIZING IT WAS MY TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS FULLY INVOLVED WITHIN MINUTES. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK MELTED AWAY. THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL, HOOD, AND EVERYTHING CONNECTED TO THE ENGINE BLOCK IS NON EXISTENT. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE CAB WHICH THERE IS NOTHING LEFT EITHER. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS TRUCK, NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL. IM NOT SURE WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE. FIRE MARSHALL SAID IT STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *JB
WIPERS AND RADIO WORK ONLY WHEN IN PARK. LIGHTS REMAIN ON EVEN WHEN IN OFF POSITION. VEHICLE WILL SPORADICALLY NOT START. PROBLEM STARTED IN THE FALL OF 05 AND PERSISTED UNTIL SUMMER 06, AT WHICH TIME ALL SYMPTOMS DISAPPEARED. NOW IN THE FALL OF 06, ALL SYMPTOMS HAVE RETURNED. *JB
ON AUGUST 24, 2006, MY PASSENGER-SIDE, FRONT, LOWER CALIPER MOUNTING BRACKET BOLT BACKED ITSELF OUT. THIS HAPPENED AT A LOWER SPEED (ABOUT 20-25 MPH) AND SO THERE WERE NO INJURIES INVOLVED (ESPECIALLY SINCE I HAD THREE PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE). BUT, WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT GOUGED THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL (A FACTORY WHEEL) AND CAUSED IT TO INSTANTLY DEFLATE THE TIRE AS I CAME TO A STOP. I ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE THE WHEEL, THE ROTOR AND THE BRAKE PADS TO FIX THE DAMAGE. ON OCTOBER 18, 2006, WHILE TRAVELING NOTHBOUND ON I-25, JUST NORTH OF EXIT 158, I HEARD A "POPPING" SOUND AND FELT AS IF I HAD RUN OVER A ROCK. I THEN TOOK EXIT 161, AND WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 25-30 MPH, AND STOPPING, MY FRONT, DRIVER'S-SIDE, TIRE SUDDENLY EXPLODED FROM A HUGE GASH IN THE SIDEWALL. I WAS TOWING A 8'X10' FLATBED TRAILER WITH SOME TOOLS LOADED ON IT. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE TRAFFIC LANES, I REMOVED THE TIRE AND THE ENTIRE WHEEL HAD SPLIT IN TWO. I ALSO DISCOVERED THAT AGAIN, THE LOWER CALIPER MOUNTING BRACKET BOLT HAD BACKED ITSELF OUT. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOLD ME THAT HE KNEW OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE AFTER THEY HAD THEIR FORD PICKUP BRAKES WORKED ON. HE SAID THAT IT IS NOT A PROBLEM, THAT HE KNEW OF, WHEN THE VEHICLES COME FROM THE FACTORY, ONLY AFTER THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN WORKED ON. I HAD TO REPLACE THE WHEEL, THE TIRE, THE STEERING KNUCKLE, THE ROTOR AND THE PADS. WE ENDED UP REPLACING THE LOWER BOLTS AND PUTTING LOCKTIGHT ON THE BOLTS (THIS WAS THE RECOMMENDATION FROM THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER AND MY MECHANIC). WE DID SAVE THE DAMAGED PARTS. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT MY MECHANIC CHECKED THE TECH SERVICE BULLETINS AND DID NOT FIND ANY BULLETINS FROM FORD RE: THIS ISSUE. I ALSO SPOKE TO THE PARTS SERVICE REP AT PHIL LONG FORD (COLORADO SPRINGS, CO) AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE KNEW ABOUT THIS ISSUE, THAT IT WAS ACTUALLY QUITE COMMON, BUT THAT FORD HAD NOT ISSUED A BULLETIN ABOUT THIS. *NM
I WAS VIEWING PROPERTY IN ANOTHER COUNTY. I LEFT MY WEHICLE PARKED ON A RANCH ROAD IN ORDER TO RIDE WITH THE REALTOR. WHEN I RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE (2002 F150 SUPER CREW) IT WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I HAD A CAMERA BECAUSE I WAS TAKING PICTURES OF THE PROPERTY, SO I HAVE PICTURES OF THE TRUCK ON FIRE AS WELL AS PICTURES AFTER THE FIRE DEPT. PUT OUT THE FIRE. ALL CONTENTS AND THE VEHICLE WERE DESTROYED, BUT THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO ANY PEOPLE OR OTHER PROPERTY. THERE WAS AN OFF DUTY POLICE OFFICER AT THE SITE WHEN I RETURNED, BUT I DIDN'T GET HIS NAME. HE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND TOLD ME THERE WASN'T ANYTHING ELSE I COULD DO. THE REALTOR, A FRIEND, AND I LEFT TO VIEW MORE PROPERTY. WE RETURNED TO TAKE MORE PICTURES AFTER THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD LEFT AS WELL.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK IN A PARKING LOT, ALL STEERING WAS LOST. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE TIE ROD.
VEHICLE WAS ALWAYS MAINTAINED CORRECTLY, WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25-30 MILES PER HOUR, THERE WAS A SUDDEN POPPING NOISE, VEHICLE LOST POWER WHICH STARTLED THE DRIVER AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO CRASH OFF THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE ROAD AND BROUGHT TO A PARKING LOT. NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MECHANIC AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE SPARK PLUG WAS BLOWN FROM THE ALUMINUM HEAD. MECHANIC TAPPED THE HEAD AND OWNER WAS FORCED TO SPEND $600 DOLLARS, OR REPLACE ENTIRE HEAD FOR $3500. MINOR VEHICLE DAMAGE DUE TO ACCIDENT, IF THIS OCCURRED AT HIGHER SPEED UNKNOWN WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. PREGNANT WOMAN IN THE VEHICLE WHO WAS EXTREMELY SCARED DUE TO NOISES AND EXHAUST BLOWING INTO CABIN OF 02 F150 V8. *NM
TRANSMISSION DROPS OUT OF GEAR AT 25 TO 30 MPH. TOOK TO DEALER, THEY SAY NO CODES SHOWN AND THEY NEED TO TAKE TRANSMISSION APART TO FIND PROBLEM. *JB
TRUCK MAKES NOISE AND WILL NOT START THE KEY PAD WILL NOT LET ME IN MY TRUCK AND THE TRUCK ACTS LIKE IT WANTS TO START BUT ANTI THEFT SYSTEM WON'T LET IT START. ARE THERE ANY RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, A BURNT SMELL WAS NOTICED. UPON INSPECTION, A RED WIRE UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT WAS ON FIRE. ALSO, THE ELECTRICAL WIRING HARNESS FOR THE POWER SEATS AND SEAT HEATER WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE WIRES RUBBING AGAINST THE SEAT FRAME CAUSED THE FIRE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE 3 WIRING HARNESSES CONNECTED FROM THE DASH TO ALL SEATS IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED AND DENIED THE CLAIM.
MANUAL CLUTCH MALFUNCTIONED INCLUDING REMAINING DISENGAGED (IN GEAR) WHILE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. SLAVE CYLINDER FAILED AND LEAKED FLUID NECESSITATING REPLACEMENT. OCCURRED AT <45000 MILES AND IS IDENTICAL TO THE FAIL MECHANISM EXHIBITED ON NEIGHBORS 2001 F150 4.6 AT 39000 MILES. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150 SUPER CAB. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. WHILE IDLE AT A RED LIGHT AND WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED THE RPMS INCREASED FROM 800 TO OVER 3000. WITH THE BRAKES STILL DEPRESSED THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INTO AN INTERSECTION. THE CONTACT WAS REQUIRED TO STAND WHILE DRIVING AND DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. INITIALLY, THE CONTACT DISREGARDED THE INCIDENT, AND ASSUMED A COMPONENT WITHIN THE VEHICLE WAS MERELY JAMMED. HOWEVER, ON MARCH 12, 2007 THE INCIDENT RECURRED, CAUSING THE RPM TO INCREASE TO OVER 3000. ONCE AGAIN, THE CONTACT WAS REQUIRED TO STAND UP TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL, THE RPMS DECREASED, AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65900. *AK UPDATE *4/23/07TR
IN LATE SUMMER OF 2006, MY 2002 FORD F-150 BEGAN EXPERIENCING CHASSIS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS. EVERY TIME THERE WAS A RAINSTORM. SPECIFICALLY, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CEASED TO WORK, THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT WOULD FLASH ON & OFF, THE BLOWER MOTOR FOR THE HEATER WOULD CONTINUE TO RUN AFTER SHUTTING OFF IGNITION, THE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM WOULD NOT WORK, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER # 1 WHO, WHEN I DESCRIBED THE SYMPTOMS, STATED IMMEDIATELY THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO WATER LEAKING PAST THE LOWER WINDSHIELD SEAL AND SHORTING OUT THE GEM MODULE AND THE FUSE BLOCK MOUNTED ON THE INTERIOR FIREWALL. DEALER STATED "THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR, YOU MIGHT WANT TO DO THE WORK YOURSELF". AS I DIDN'T FEEL I HAD THE ABILITY TO REPAIR, I LET IT GO FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. IN LATE NOVEMBER OF 2006, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK BEFORE SUNRISE, IN A VERY HEAVY RAIN, WHEN THE WIPERS SHUT OFF AND THE DOME LIGHT CAME ON MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE. I TOLD MY PARENTS ABOUT THIS & THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO TAKE VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER # 2 FOR REPAIR AT THEIR EXPENSE. DEALER # 2 WAS AWARE OF THE CONDITION AS WELL. THE ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR WAS $553 TO REPAIR THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS DAMAGED BY THE MOISTURE, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD THEN HAVE TO BE TAKEN TO A GLASS SHOP TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD RE-SEALED. THE WORK WAS DECLINED, AND I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPLAINING THAT AS THIS WAS A SAFETY RELATED ISSUE, KNOWN TO BOTH DEALERSHIPS, I FELT THEY SHOULD ABSORB SOME OF THE EXPENSE OF MAKING VEHICLE DRIVABLE DURING ANY WEATHER CONDITION. REQUEST WAS DENIED. MY CONTENTION IS THAT SINCE DRIVING IN A RAINSTORM WITHOUT WIPERS AND AN ERRATIC ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, AND SINCE BOTH DEALERSHIPS WERE ACQUAINTED WITH THE CONDITION, THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A VOLUNTARY RECALL, OR AT THE VERY LEAST, A TSB ADVISING OWNERS OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM. *JB
I OWN A 2002 FORD F-150 SUPERCREW 4X4 PICKUP WITH 5.4L V8 GAS ENGINE AND AOD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. AT 48,500 MILES ON THE VEHICLE THE OD ON/OFF SWITCH WOULD NOT STAY ENGAGED AND WAS FLASHING INTERMITTENTLY I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP WHO SHOWED ME METAL SHAVINGS IN THE TRANSMISSION PAN AND WAS TOLD THE TORQUE CONVERTER MUST BE REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION MUST BE REBUILT. I AGREED TO THE WORK BECAUSE I NEED A DEPENDABLE VEHICLE. I HAVE NEVER ABUSED THE TRUCK IN ANY WAY AND DO NOT HAUL ANY TYPE OF TRAILERS WITH THE VEHICLE. *NM
THE TRUCK WAS DRIVEN BACK FROM THE STORE, A DISTANCE OF A FEW MILES, THEN PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. APPRXIMATELY 30 MINUTES LATER I HEAD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A COMPRESSOR RUNNING OUT IN THE STREET. WENT OUT INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND FOUND THE STARTER WAS TURNING OVER THE ENGINE. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN TURNED OFF WHEN PARKED AND THE KEY WAS REMOVED. WENT BACK INSIDE GOT THE KEY, AND TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE "RUN" POSITION. TRUCK STARTED AND RAN. TURNED OFF IGNITION AND REMOVED KEY, BUT THE STARTER CONTINUED TO TURN ENGINE. DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE LETTING THE ENGINE RUN FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES, THEN FINALLY WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF IGNITION AND STARTER DID NOT CRANK THE ENGINE. NEXT MORNING TRUCK WOULD NOT START. TRUCK WAS TOWED AND HAD TO HAVE STARTER REPLACED BECAUSE IT HAD BURNED OUT. THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 15,000 MILES. CALLED LOCAL FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED AND THEY SAID THEY WERE UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS WITH STARTERS. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH STARTER ENGAGING BY ITSELF.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS LOOSE AND WATER WAS IN THE VEHICLE WHENEVER IT RAINED. THE WATER WOULD SHORT OUT THE ELECTRICAL BOXES IN THE VEHICLE WHICH HAD TO REPLACED AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEAL ON THE WINDSHIELD CAUSED THE DEFECT TO OCCUR. THE DEALER TOLD HIM THAT EVEN IF HE REPLACED THE SEAL IT WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT IT WOULD STOP THE LEAK. THE MANUFACTURER DIDN'T OFFER THE CONTACT ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR COST. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE IN THE REAR AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO FRONT OF THE VEHICLE; THE INSURANCE ADJUSTOR DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. THE POLICE WAS ALERTED AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. A MANUFACTURING REPRESENTATIVE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE NOT DEPLOYED DUE TO THE IMPACT AND NO DEFECT WAS FOUND. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
ALL FOUR WHEELS BEARINGS ON A 2002 FORD EXPLORER WITH ONLY 70,000 MILES HAD TO BE REPLACED. ONE INCIDENT INCLUDED A WHEEL FALLING OFF DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THESE BEARINGS. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE POWER WINDOWS, HORN AND TURN SIGNALS FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. THE FUSES WERE REPLACED BY THE CONTACT AND THE WINDOWS, HORN AND TURN SIGNALS RESUMED PROPER FUNCTION. WHEN THE IGNITION WAS ENGAGED, SMOKE EMITTED FROM UNDER THE DASH BOARD AND FROM UNDER THE HOOD. A SERVICE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED.
I OWN A 2002 FORD F 150 LIGHTNING WITH 45, 234 MILES ON IT. MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SOME ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO A SPARK PLUG SHOOTING OUT OF ENGINE HEAD. I BELIEVE IT WAS THE 3RD CYLINDER THAT FAILED. I WAS CLIMBING ONTO A OFF RAMP AND JUST STARTING TO ACCELERATE WHEN I HEARD THIS POPPING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I WAS ACCELERATING NORMALLY WHEN JUST LIKE THAT THE SPARK PLUG SHOT OUT. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK PRE OWNED WITH 27,000 MILES SO I NEVER THOUGHT TO BUY ADDITIONAL ENGINE COVERAGE. THE TRUCK WAS IN GOOD ENOUGH CONDITION FOR THE DEALER TO GRANT ME A 5 YEAR LOAN THOUGH. ANYWAY I CHECKED UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND SAW THE BROKEN SPARK PLUG COIL AND THE SPARK PLUG WITH RIPPED THREADS. I HAD THE LIGHTNING TOWED TO MY HOW WHERE IT STILL SITS. AT THIS POINT IN TIME I AM MAKING $466.46 MONTHLY PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE THAT I AM UNABLE TO DRIVE. I CALLED FORD ABOUT MY PROBLEM AND GOT NOWHERE B/C THEY SAID I WAS BEYOND THE 30,000 MILE WARRANTY OR THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY. FORD GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE TO FIX THE DAMAGED HEAD FOR 3,600 HUNDRED AND 5,400 TO DO BOTH. NOW FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THE 2003 FORD LIGHTNINGS DO NOT EXPERIENCE SPARK PLUG ISSUES B/C THE ENGINE WERE BUILT WITH UPDATED HEADS. THAT RIGHT THERE SAYS THAT FORD REALIZES THAT THESE TRUCKS ARE DEFECTIVE TO SOME DEGREE. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED IN THIS MATTER B/C I SPENT 29,000 OUT OF POCKET FOR THIS TRUCK AND I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE IT. NOW I HAVE TO SPEND ALMOST 6,000 TO GET IT TO DRIVING CONDITION. LIKE 29,000 ISN'T ENOUGH MONEY ALREADY? I WORK VERY HARD IN LIFE TO BUY THIS TRUCK I CANT JUST PULL THAT KIND OF MONEY OUT JUST LIKE THAT. IF I HAVE TO JOIN A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT SO BE IT. I HAVE A F150 2002 FORD PICKUP WITH 55,000 MILES ON IT. MY PARENTS AND I HAD JUST FINISHED LUNCH AND GOT IN MY TRUCK. I TURNED THE KEY AND WE HEARD 2 LOUD POPPING NOISES AND THE MOTOR STARTED RUNNING ROUGH (PULSING). TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, OPENED THE HOOD ONLY TO DISCOVER THE SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE #8 HOLE AND WAS LAYING DOWN IN A CREVICE ON THE ENGINE AND THEN ROLLED OUT OF SIGHT. WE HAD TO CALL A FLATBED TOW TRUCK AND WERE TOWED 82 MILES BACK TO NORTH COUNTRY FORD, COON RAPIDS, MN ON A SATURDAY NIGHT WHERE WE LEFT THE VEHICLE. ON MONDAY MORNING I FOUND OUT TO MY SURPRISE FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT NORTH COUNTRY FORD THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I HAVE ON THE TRUCK WOULD NOT COVER THE $2,300 COST. NORTH COUNTRY SENT OUT THE HEAD TO HAVE THE HOLES DRILLED LARGER FOR THE SPARK PLUGS. I HAVE DRIVEN FORD PRODUCTS FOR OVER 45 YEARS BUT THIS WILL BE THE LAST FORD UNLESS FORD OWNS UP TO THIS PROBLEM AND DOES A RECALL AND CREDITS PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF WHO HAVE BEEN INCONVENIENCED. *JB
MY 2002 FORD F150 HARLEY DAVIDSON PICKUP TRUCK EJECTED A SPARK PLUG WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY . THIS IS THE THIRD INCIDENT OF FAILURE AND AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AS THE TRUCK LOOSES POWER WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT . IN ADDITION THE FAILING PLUG THIS TIME WAS ONE RIGHT UNDER THE FUEL RAIL AND THE COIL WAS PREVENTED FROM CONTINUING TO PULL OUT BY THE FUEL RAIL ADDING CONCERN THAT IT COULD PUNCTURE AND CAUSE AN ENGINE FIRE .WHEN CONTACTING FORD THEY BASICALLY TOOK MY INFORMATION AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE . *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPARE TIRE CABLE BRACKET THAT HOLDS UP THE SPARE TIRE FRACTURED AND COMPLETELY DETACHED. THE SPARE TIRE DROPPED FROM THE VEHICLE AND WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURE WAS ALERTED BUT THE MANUFACTURER DENIED THE CLAIM.*AK

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE CALIPER BRACKET BOLTS UNSCREWED ON THEIR OWN. THE SERVICE DEALER REPLACED THE BOLTS. ALSO, THE SERPENTINE DRIVE BELT FRACTURED WHILE TRAVELING 50 MPH, AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT, AND LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.
FORD F-150 BLEW OUT A SPARK PLUG FROM THE HEAD, THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND HAS HAPPENED TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AND FORD REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. AVERAGE COST OF REPAIR TO THE CUSTOMER IS 3500. *JB
THE BRAKE PEDAL STOPPED MOVING WHEN ACTUATING THE ADJUSTABLE PEDALS. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MOVES SO THERE IS NO STEP OVER HEIGHT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PEDALS. WITH THE PEDALS BEING AT THE SAME HEIGHT POSITION THERE IS NO WAY TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THEM OR STEP ON BOTH AT SAME TIME. *JB
AT ABOUT 75K MILES, A VERY FAINT WHINE WAS COMING FROM THE BACK END OF THE VEHICLE, MAINLY AUDIBLE WITH ACCELERATION AND AT SPEEDS OF ABOUT 35 MPH. IT SLOWLY PROGRESSED, WE TOOK IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS HAPPENING WITH MANY FORD 150'S WITH THIS YEAR, IT WAS A DEFECT IN THE PARTS (THE MATERIAL IT WAS MADE WITH). WE WERE TOLD TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT UNTIL NOISE WAS TOO LOUD. AT 92K MILES, IT WAS A PRETTY LOUD WHINE AT ALL SPEEDS EXCEPT ABOUT 70 MPH, AND THEN PROGRESSED TO A GRINDING NOISE. I JUST TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL, PINION AND CARRIAGE GEARS WERE "TORN UP". THEY FOUND A REPLACEMENT AND TOTAL COST IS $1800. AT THIS POINT FORD IS NOT FIXING PART, SINCE THERE IS NO EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT THIS IS NOT A PART THAT SHOULD BE GOING OUT AT 90K MILES EITHER, AND WITH THE DEALERSHIP SAYING THIS IS HAPPENING OFTEN AND THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE PART, FORD SHOULD BE RECALLING THIS, OR AT THE VERY LEAST PAYING FOR THE FIX WHEN IT STARTS TO GO BAD. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, HE HEARD A LOUD BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. UPON INSPECTION HE NOTICED THE SPARK PLUGS WERE LOOSE AND THE COIL HAD BLOWN OFF. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT WITHIN THE ENGINE THAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THEY REPLACED THE COILS AND THE SPARK PLUGS. APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS LATER THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE DEALER STATED THAT A DEFECT WITHIN THE ENGINE CAUSED THE FAILURE. THEY REPLACED THE COILS AND SPARK PLUGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE 113,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 45 MPH, WHEN I HEARD A LOUD NOISE SO I PULLED OVER , FOUND THE PASS SIDE REAR PLUG WAS SHOT OUT OF THE MOTOR AND LAYING ON THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. THE COIL PACK IS CRACKED AND THE MOUNTING BRACKET SNAPPED OFF. I HAVE DONE NOTHING TO FIX THIS YET!YES I HAVE OLD PARTS. *JB

I RECENTLY RESPONDED TO HAVE THE RECALL FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL ON MY 2002 F-150 COMPLETED. SINCE THEN, MY CRUISE CONTROL HAS FAILED TO WORK AND WHEN I HIT THE "ON" BUTTON AND THE "COAST" BUTTON AT THE SAME TIME, MY HORN WILL BLOW. THE DEALER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS AN $89 DIAGNOSTIC FEE FOR SOMETHING THAT HAS NEVER WORKED SINCE THIS " FACTORY FIX". IT HAD WORKED UP UNTIL I DROVE IT IN THAT DAY. *JB

THE CONTACT HAS HAD ISSUES WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
ORIGINAL WINDSHIELD SEAL BEGAN LEAKING WATER INSIDE CAB AND INTO DASH COMPARTMENT RESULTING IN ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE LEAK ORIGINATED IN THE DRIVER SIDE VALLEY ON TOP OF THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. THE VALLEYS ALLOW WATER TO FLOW DIRECTLY TO AND POOL UP AT THE WINDSHIELD WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED. I REMEDIED THIS BY CAULKING THE AREA TO PREVENT FURTHER WATER DAMAGE. *NM
2002 F-150 HAS HAD THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED 4 TIMES PREVIOUSLY IN THE LAST 2 YEARS. THIS TIME THE GAUGES ALL DROPPED TO NOTHING, JUMPED BACK UP AND TRUCK LOST POWER. WOULD NOT RESTART IMMEDIATELY, WHEN RESTARTED, GAUGES WENT TO FULL POWER, DROPPED TO NOTHING, THEN BOUNCED BACK AND FORTH. WITHIN 20 MILES, BATTERY LEVEL DROPPED TO ALMOST NOTHING. *NM
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET, AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED, AND MAKING A SLIGHT TURN TO THE LEFT, THE TIE-ROD END ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BROKE OFF AND JAMMED INTO THE WHEEL. THE TIE-ROD GOUGED THE INSIDE OF THE ALUMINUM AND PUNCTURED THROUGH THE WHEEL. I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE TRUCK TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. BOTH THE INNER AND OUTER TIE-RODS ON THE DRIVES SIDE WHERE REPLACED. THE ALUMINUM WHEEL ALSO NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AS IT IS SCORED AND WILL NOT HOLD AIR. *NM
ON TWO OCCASIONS WITHIN THE LAST YEAR, MY FORD F-150 WITH A TRITON 4.6 LITER V8 ENGINE HAS "BLOWN A SPARK PLUG" CAUSING A SUBSTANTIAL LOSS FINANCIALLY AND TRANSPORTATION WISE. I CAME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A PREVALENT ISSUE WITH FORD F-150 TRITON ENGINES AND I ASK THAT A FORMAL INVESTIGATION, RECALL AND, IF POSSIBLE, COMPENSATION BE AWARDED TO ME AND OTHERS HAVING SUFFERED THE SAME FATE. THE MOST RECENT CASE OCCURRED ON SATURDAY NIGHT APRIL 1, 2006 WHEN RETURNING FROM A FAMILY WEDDING. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY IN A FRONTAL IMPACT AT 35 TO 40MPH. SEAT BELTS WERE IN USE AND MINOR INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP HOWEVER THEY ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHY THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED.
I ACTIVATED THE CRUISE CONTROL ON MY 2002 FORD F-150 SUPERCREW ON MARCH 21, 2006. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW OFF THE LOT IN 2002 AND HAD USED THE CRUISE CONTROL NO MORE THAN 5 TIMES IN 4 YEARS. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL, THE CRUISE INDICATOR DISABLED, BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT. MY VEHICLE PROCEEDED WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR (AT 75 MPH). THE BRAKES DIDN'T NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL EITHER. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN "NEUTRAL" AND PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL TRYING TO ACCELERATE. THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS STUCK ON FULL THROTTLE. FORD TOOK THE CABLE OUT AND PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. --PROBLEM-- WHILE I ATTEMPT TO "BRAKE" AND MY VEHICLE ATTEMPTS TO "ACCEL", THE VEHICLE ISN'T SLOWING DOWN. FORD SAID THAT BECAUSE I DIDN'T USE MY CRUISE CONTROL REGULARLY, THAT IS THE REASON IT GOT STUCK!!! ?? WHY SHOULD IT MATTER IF I USE THE CRUISE REGULARLY, IT SHOULDN'T TRY TO KILL ME WHEN I DECIDE TO USE IT??? *JB
FORD 5.4 V-8 TRITON ENGINE SPIT SPARK PLUG MY 2002 FORD F-150 SUPERCREW SPIT OUT THE #3 SPARK PLUG. THE REPAIR WAS $500 TO HAVE THE HEAD RE-THREADED WITH NO GUARANTEE. DEALER ADVISED NEXT TIME THE HEAD WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $3000. *NM
THE 2002 F150 LARIET WAS RUNNING GREAT, HAD NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS LEADING UP TO THIS INCIDENT. THE NUMBER 7 SPARK PLUG EJECTED FROM THE HEAD, CAUSED LOSS OF POWER OF THE ENGINE, TAKEN TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY ARE TELLING US THEY CAN REPLACE THE HEAD FOR $3300.00 OUR COST. I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE HEAD AND FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO REPLACE. *JB
