VEHICLE WAS PARKED OUTSIDE AND CONSUMER SMELLED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH DRIVER'S POWER ADJUSTING SEAT. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM. *AKCONSUMER HAD VEHICLE ONLY EIGHT DAYS. CONSUMER WENT ON A TRIP WHICH WAS ONLY 50 MILES OUT OF THE WAY. CONSUMER PARKED VEHICLE AND TWO HOURS LATER CAME BACK TO FIND VEHICLE ON FIRE. *JG
THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK FEATURE ACTIVATED AND PINCHED MY ARM IN THE DOOR LOCK. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIME, HOWVER THIS IS THE MOST SERIOUS INSTANCE. I RECEIVED A BRUICE APPROXIMENTLEY 1 1/2" INCHES IN LENGTH AND 2 SMALL ABRASIONS. THIS IS AT LEAST MY 4TH FORD VEHICLE WITH AUTOMATIC LOCKS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. I BELIEVE THERE IS A DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR LOCK BUTTON. IT IS ABOUT 1" LONG AND HAS AN INDENTATION WITH RIDGES. THIS IS APPARENTLY WHAT PINCHED MY ARM. THERE IS NO NEED FOR THE RIDGES SINCE THE BUTTON IS INSIDE THE DOOR WHEN LOCKED AND NO WAY TO USE THE INDENTATION TO PULL UP THE DOOR LOCK MANUALLY. IT THE LOCK BUTTON WAS MADE SMOOTH AND POSSIBLE TAPERED TOWARD THE TOP I BELIEVE IT WOULD GREATLY REMOVE THE HAZARD. IN ADDITION THIS WOULD NOT INPAIR THE ONLY USE THAT I CAN SEE FOR THE BUTTOM, TO PUSH IT DOWN FOR A MANUAL LOCK.*AK
CONSUMER STATES SINCE 05/02, WHEN ACCELERATING GAS PEDAL STICKS INTERMITTENLY. CONSUMER HAS TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND PUMP PEDAL FOR IT TO RELEASE. TS
CONSUMER STATES AFTER TESTING THE SHOULDER HARNESSES, THE FRONT HARNESS CAME OUT OF THE WALL WHILE INSTALLING STRESS TEST EQUIPMENT WITH ONLY THE TENSION TAKEN OUT OF THE CHAIN, THERE WAS NEVER A PULL APPLIED TO THE HARNESS, THE CENTER HARNESS HAD PREVIOUSLY CAME OUT OF THE VAN AND THE BRACKET HOLDING THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY PULLED OUT OF THE WALL, CONSUMER FOUND THAT THE UNIT WAS ATTACHED WITH AN ALUMINUM ANCHOR AND ONLY THROUGH THE FIBERGLASS WALL OF THE VAN, THAT IS WHY THE TESTS WERE BEING COMPILED. THE SEATS THAT WERE INSTALLED WERE WRONG. THESE ARE FORD VANS USED TO TRANSPORT ELDERLY AND DISABLED PERSONS. *SLC
THIS LINE OF VEHICLES ALSO HAS 2 OTHER MAJOR COMPLAINTS FROM MANY OWNERS, 1ST IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT BRAKES SQUEALING THIS WAS IDENTIFIED IN THE 2001 MODEL YEAR, A TSB WAS ISSUED AND THE 2002 MODEL HAS THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THE ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH AT IDLE. AGAIN A TSB WAS ISSUED BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED IN THE 2002 MODEL YEAR. THE MAIN PROBLEM THAT WAS REPORTED HERE WAS DUE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL SINKING TO THE FLOOR WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. ADDITIONALLY, BRAKE FLUID WAS FOUND LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR. *AK
LOUD HIGH PITCHED WHINE IN REAR END AT OPEN HIGHWAY SPEEDS (3.31 GEAR RATIO) DETECTED DAY OF PURCHASE ON MARCH 25TH 2002, REPORTED TO DEALER OF PURCHASE (HOMER SKELTON FORD, OLIVE BRANCH ,MS) NEXT DATE. AS OF MARCH 25TH 2003, ONE YEAR, TWO DEALERS, 29,000 MISERABLE MILES AND SOME FIVE REPAIR ATTEMPTS LATER I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS DEFIENTLY A PROBLEM WITH THE 3.31 FORD REAR END. I HAVE RECENTLY DRIVEN ANOTHER NEW 2003 FORD TRUCK WITH 3.31 REAR END, VEHICLE ALSO HAD NOISE. THEN DROVE ANOTHER NEW PICK UP WITH THE 3.55 REAR END WHICH WAS TOTALLY QUIET. IN THE COURSE OF THIS YEAR I HAVE FILED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH DEALERS AND DIRECTLY WITH FORD. ONE WEEK AFTER PURCHASE, WHEN THE FIRST ATTEMPT TO FIX THE TRUCK FAILED, I ATTEMPTED TOGET THE DEALER TO TAKE THE TRUCK BACK BUT THEY SAID THAT WAS NOT AN OPTION. THIS VEHICLE IS SUPPOSE TO BA A TOP OF THE LINE FORD PICKUP RETAILING FOR OVER $30,000.00 WITH A 36,000 MILE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. FORD EITHER CAN'T OR WON'T FIX IT. THEY HAVE JUST OFFERED ME A BUY BACK ON THE TRUCK WHICH IF ACCEPTED WOULD COST ME AS FOLLOWS THE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE AT THE TIME THE TRUCK WAS PUCHASED. $1,875.00 CASH DOWN PAYMENT 6,162.10 EQUITY OF TRADE IN 874.52 SALES TAX A TOTAL OF $8,911.62 . IN ADDITION TO THE COST OF INSTALLATION OF PERSONAL EQUIPMENT WHICH TOTALS ABOUT $400.00. THIS IS NOT EVEN CONSIDERING PAYMENTS ON THE TRUCK FOR 12 MONTHS. NOW FORD HAS OFFERED TO BUY THE TRUCK BACK IF I PAY THEM OVER $5,000.00 ADDITIIONAL DOLLARS FOR THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. THIS WOULD MAKE MY TOTAL COST OVER 13,900.00 FOR OWNING A DEFECTIVE FORD PICK UP FOR 12 MONTHS. IN ESSENCE THERE IS NO WARRANTY. IT SHOULD BE FORD'S RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THE DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE. IF THEY COULD NOT FIX IT THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN ME ANOTHER TRUCK LONG AGO. IT IS THEIR FAULT THAT IT HAS TAKEN A YEAR TO GET TO THIS POINT. I TRAVEL IN MY JOB AND HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE THE MILES ON THE TRUCK. THEY CERTAINLY WERE NOT PLEASANT ONES.

WHILE DRIVING IN THE DARK, DARSHBOARD LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS WILL TURN OFF AT THE SAME TIME WITHOUT A PRIOR WARNING FOR ABOUT THIRTY SECONDS. DEALER WAS CONTACTED, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. *AK *YH
ON THE RIDE HOME FROM PURCHASING MY NEW CAR, MY SEAT BELT CAME UNLATCHED. THIS EVENT REPEATED SEVERAL TIMES ON THE RIDE HOME. I CALLED THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY, AND THEY SAID TO BRING THE CAR IN AND THEY WOULD FIX IT. THE MIDDLE FRONT SEAT BELT WASN'T ASSEMBLED TO BEGIN WITH, SO THEY SAID THEY WOULD FIX BOTH PROBLEMS. DUE TO THE FAMILY CATCHING THE FLU THAT DAY I DID NOT BRING THE CAR IN, HOWEVER THE SEATBELT BEGAN ENGAGING PROPERLY. A FEW MONTHS LATER IT BEGAN LATCHING INTERMITTENTLY AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY SAID IT WAS WORKING PROPERLY. I?VE HAD THIS HAPPEN NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, WHERE I CAN?T GET THE SEATBELT TO LATCH AT ALL, YET THE DEALERSHIP [I?VE BEEN TO SEVERAL] SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. AFTER 2 YEARS OF CHECKING 2002 RECALLS AND FINDING NOTHING, I FINALLY CHECKED THE 2001 RECALLS AND FOUND SEVERAL EXPERIENCES JUST LIKE MINE. ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP BY PHONE FOR AN UNRELATED RECALL, AND THEY WERE AWARE I HAD A 2002. I TOLD THE PERSON ABOUT MY SEATBELT PROBLEM, AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE, AND WOULD BE FIXED FOR FREE. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, AND THAT IT WOULD COST $125 TO FIX. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN JANUARY 2002, AND IT WAS SOLD AS A 2002, BUT IT HAD SITTING ON THE LOT FOR MONTHS. THE SEATBELT PROBLEM HAS ME WONDERING IF I ACTUALLY BOUGHT A 2001. *AK
VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER RTS TIRES, P265/70R17. IN WET WEATHER REAREND OF VEHICLE SPINS OUT WITHOUT APPLYING BRAKES. CONSUMER HAS OWNED THIS VEHICLE ONE WEEK, AND IT SPUN OUT TWICE. GOODYEAR CUSTOMER SERVICE STATED THIS VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE ATS TIRES NOT RTS.*AK

BOTH LOCKING PAWLS ON MANUAL SEAT ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM DO NOT LOCK INTO PLACE WHEN SEAT ADJUSTMENT LEVER IS RELEASED. ONE OR THE OTHER PAWL LOCKS INTO PLACE AND A LARGE AMOUNT OF SHIFTING FORCE IS THEN REQUIRED TO MOVE THE SECOND PAWL INTO A POSITION WHERE IT WILL ENGAGE. THIS WOULD ONLY BE A MINOR INCONVENIENCE IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE SEAT BELT CONFIGURATION OF THIS VEHICLE. THIS SEAT BELT ATTACHES NOT TO THE SUB FLOOR OR PILLAR BUT TO THE SEAT ITSELF. IF (AS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES TO ME) YOU ARE UNDER WAY AND REPOSITION THE SEAT, YOU MAY NOT REALIZE THE SEAT IS NOT SAFELY LOCKED INTO POSITION. IF YOU WERE THEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THE STRAIN ON THE ENGAGED PAWL MIGHT BE BEYOND DESIGN PARAMETERS. WHEN THE UNENGAGED PAWL, TRAVELING TO ITS NEXT LOCKED POSITION UNDER THE FORCES OF THE ACCIDENT, MEET THE MASS OF THE OCCUPANT AND SEAT, THE SHEAR FORCES MAY CAUSE FAILURE OF THE PAWL ALLOWING THE OCCUPANT AND HIS /HER SEAT TO BE UNCONTROLLED DURING AN ACCIDENT. THIS COULD RESULT IN UNNECESSARY INJURY TO THE OCCUPANT. AN AIR BAG SRS COULD EXACERBATE THIS CIRCUMSTANCE CAUSING ESCALATING INJURY(S).
WHEEL HUB IS TOO SMALL, CAUSING VEHICLE TO VIBRATE WHEN DRIVING. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND DEALER CALLED FORD HOTLINE, STATING THERE WAS A FLAW IN ENGINEERING OF HUB ASSEMBLY WITHOUT A REMEDY.*AK
I HAVE 2 SPARK PLUGS THAT WILL NOT STAY TIGHT. BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THESE MOTOR BLOWING PLUGS OUT I HAVE TO STAY ON TOP OF THEM. I TIGHTEN THEN ABOUT EVERY 3 WEEKS. *LA
THE IGNITION COIL WENT OUT CONTINUOUSLY, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE POWER. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE IGNITION COIL FOUR TIMES AND THE VEHICLE IS BEING REPAIRED AGAIN FOR THE COIL. *JB

I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS PERIODICALLY OVER THE PAST TWO WITH MY VEHICLE(ORIGINALLY THOUGHT TO BE THE BATTERY), RANGING FROM HIGHLIGHT AND FLASHERS INTERMITTENTLY COMING ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS LOCKED AND TURNED OFF. THE RADIO AND BLOWER MOTOR HAVING ISSUES AND THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT COMING ON ANS STAYING ON. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED MORE AND MORE THAT THE WINDSHIELD IS LEAKING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE WIPERS AND HEAD LIGHTS LIGHTS SHUT OFF ONCE WHILST DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DURING HEAVY RAIN.. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON THE 12/23/2016 AT MY PLACE OF WORK (NTB), ONE OF MY CO WORKERS NOTICED MY HEADLIGHTS FADING IN AND OUT THE RADIO COMING ON AND GOING OFF. WENT OVER TO THE TRUCK TO MAKE SURE IT WAS TURNED OFF AND NOT LEFT ON BY MISTAKE BUT THE ENGINE WAS OFF. SO I BROUGHT THE TRUCK INTO THE WORK SHOP TO HAVE A LOOK OVER THE VEHICLE AND DID SOME DIAGNOSTICS ON IT AND DISCOVERED MULTIPLE DEFECT CODES THAT ALL CONNECT THROUGH THE GEM(GENERAL ELECTRICAL MODULE) ON THE INTERIOR FUSE PANEL. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I ALSO NOTICED BOTH THE GEM AND FUSE PANEL BOX HAVE GOT WATER INGESTION AND GREEN/BROWN STAINS COMING OUT THE BOTTOM. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ONLINE ABOUT THESE'S ISSUES AND ITS A COMMON PROBLEM OVER MODELS FROM FORD FROM 98-03. THE FIX IS TO REPLACE THE GEM AND FUSE BOX AND TO RESEAL/REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD. NOW I BELIEVE THAT IS SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY FORD THEM SELF'S REGARDLESS OF THE AGE OF THE VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THIS. MY COMPANY PURCHASED THIS TRUCK FOR ME TO WORK IN \ WITH TO PERFORM MY JOB. THE SEAT IS TOO HIGH. MY EYES ARE LEVEL WITH THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD AND IT'S IRATAITING TO LOOK THUR THE COLORED PART IN THE TOP PART OF THE WINDSHIELD. SEATING THIS HIGH UP ALSO CAUSES THE REAR VIEW MIRROR TO BLOCK MY VISION IN THIS DITECTION. I CHECKED INTO GETTING A POWER SEAT BUT IT DOES NOT GO ANY LOWER. THE DEALER SAYS IS HE CHECKING THIS OUT. I ALSO HAVE TWO OTHER EMPLOYEES WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. WE CHECKED THE SEATS IN THE 2001 AND 2000 TRUCKS AND FOUND THAT THE HIGH SEATS STARTED IN 2001. THE SEATS IN THE 2000 TRUCK WERE JUST RIGHT. TRANSMISSION SLIPPING IN REVERSE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN WITHIN TWO DAYS. THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SLIP IN DRIVE ONLY IN REVERSE. *AK

SHOULDER HARNESS EXTREEMLY DIFFICULT TO ACCESS. *AK
CONSUMER IS CONCERNED WITH THE CONTROL SWITCH THAT ADJUSTS THE POSITION OF THE PEDALS. THE CONTROL SWITCH IS MOUNTED ON THE LOWER LEFT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. IT PROTRUDES SLIGHTLY FROM THE SURFACE. DURING CERTAIN DRIVING MOMMENTS, THE DRIVERS LEFT KNEE CAN COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE ROCKER SWITCH INITIATING UNINTENDED FOOT PEDAL MOVEMENT, ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO AN UNINTENDED DECELERATION OR ACCELERATION. *JG
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, MY CAR COMPLETELY CONKED OUT FOR "NO APPARANT REASON." I PULLED OVER THE CAR (THE BEST THAT I COULD) AND STARTED IT BACK UP. I WENT HOME AND IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER AND TOLD THEM OF MY PROBLEM. THE MAN AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO DRIVE MY CAR FOR A FEW MORE DAYS TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I ALSO HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING SOME "MISSING"/SHAKING WITH MY CAR (PERIODIC PROBLEM.) THE SHAKING IS APPARENT WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON BUT DOES OCCUR PERIODICALLY WHEN IT IS OFF. FEELING UNCOMFORTABLE WITH ALL THESE PROBLEMS, I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER BACK AND SET AN APPIONTMENT TO HAVE MY CAR LOOKED AT. ON JUNE 3RD, MY CAR WAS LOOKED AT BUT WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS. I AM VERY CONCERNED WITH THIS, ESPECIALLY WITH THE CONKING OUT SINCE IT IS INDEED A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.*AK

ALL TIRES ARE ROTATING ON THE WHEEL. ANOTHER SET OR RIMS AND TIRES WERE REPLACED. AS SOON AS TIRES ARE ROTATED THEY GO OUT OF BALANCE. TIRE WERE MARKED BEFORE PUTTING THEM BACK ON THE TRUCK. TRUCK DRIVEN FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN RETURNED BACK TO MECHANIC. THE MARK HAD MOVED 180 DEGREES, COMPLETE OPPOSITE OF TIRES. TRUCK IS SUBJECT TO VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH CAUSE UNKNOWN BY DEALERSHIP. TIRES HAVE BEEN CHANGED TWICE AND THEN MOUNTED AND BALANCED FOUR TIMES. CAUSE OF VIBRATION IS STILL UNDETERMINED. NLM
THE REAR DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT OPEN UNLESS THE LOCK IS MANUALLY UNLOCKED. THE FRONT DOORS WILL UNLOCK AND OPEN BY USING THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE. THE REAR DOORS WILL NOT DO THIS. YOU MUST FIRST UNLOCK THE REAR DOOR MANUALLY (FOR WITH THE POWER LOCKS), THEN OPEN THE DOOR WITH THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE. I FEEL THAT THIS CONDITION IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IF THERE IS AN INSTANCE WHERE SOMEONE IS RIDING IN THE REAR SEAT AND THE PERSON MUST EXIT THE VEHICLE IN A HURRY, THEY MAY BECOME DISORIENTED AND FORGET TO FIRST UNLOCK THE REAR DOOR MANUALLY. THEY WILL GET PANICKY THEN UNTIL THEY REALIZE, IF THEY DO, WHAT IS HAPPENING. WHILE AT HIGH SPEED VEHICLE VIBRATES AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT. CONSUMER TOOK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE DRIVESHAFT. PROBLEM WAS STILL PRESENT. TS THE WHEELS AND TIRES WERE ALSO CHANGED BUT TO NO AVAIL. *JG
CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CHAISE ON THE VEHICLE. ALSO STATED THAT DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND HAS AGREE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE BUT WONT TAKE IT IN UNTIL AFTER JANUARY THE 2ND. TS
WHEN A TURN WAS MADE, THE SEAT BELT LOCKED UP. *JB
THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED, THE PAINT WAS DEFECTIVE, AND THE RUNNING BOARD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS DAMAGED. THE BACK BED ON TRUNK NEEDED TO BE REALIGNED AND THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT WHILE DRIVING. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR DID NOT CLOSE PROPERLY EVEN AFTER REPAIR.*PH *JB
UPON ACCELERATION OR DECELERATION, THE DRIVERS' SEAT BACK MOVED BACK AND FORTH. *JB
A POPPING NOISE COULD BE HEARD IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM FIVE TIMES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING, TIGHTENED THE BOLTS IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT. THE POPPING NOISE COULD STILL BE HEARD. *TT
CONSUMER STATES WHILE TRAVELING 30-45 MPH AND AS A RESULT OF RUNNING INTO A TREE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING OVER 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO VIBRATE. *AK *TS THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER TO PLACE SAND BAGS IN THE TRUCK BED, HOWEVER IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *JB
PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE PASSENGER DOOR, AND PAINT DEFECT ON DRIVER SIDE OF VEHICLE. *MR THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE ONLY PROBLEMS WERE WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER WHICH WAS REPLACED AND THE ALTERNATOR. THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, AS THERE WAS A PAINT DEFECT ON THE DOOR HANDLE WHICH DIDN'T FULLY SHUT AT TIMES. THE CONSUMER WAS WILLING TO GIVE BACK THE VEHICLE IN RETURN OF ALL THE MONIES (PAYMENT(S)/DOWN PAYMENT). *SCC *JB
PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE STEERING GOING OUT.*MR STEERING WENT COMPLETELY OUT WHICH CAUSED THE DRIVER TO BRAKE FAST, AS A RESULT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER WERE INJURED. *PH ALSO THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED 2 FLAT TIRES TWO WEEKS AFTER THE INCIDENT. *JB
CONSUMER NOTICED WHILE TRAVELING A NATURAL GAS SMELL COMING THROUGH AIR VENTS, MAKING CONSUMER SICK. MANUFACTURER AND DEALER HAD BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
