WE NOTIFIED THE DEALER OF THE PAINT CRACKING AND FAILING AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE ONLY A YEAR AND HALF. THEY FIRST STATED THAT THE TRUCK HAD OBVIOUSLY HAD SOME TYPE OF REPAIR WORK DONE, BUT AFTER RESEARCHING IT IN THE ENTERNAL DATA BASE FOUND THAT WAS NOT THE CASE, AND IT WAS IN FACT A PAINT FAILURE. THEY HAVE ALSO STATED THAT THEY WILL CORRECT THE EFFECTED AREAS. OUR PROBLEM IS THAT THE EFFECTED ARES ARE HALF OF THE TRUCK, AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO REPAINT THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. WE HAVE A MAJOR PURCHASE OF A $30,000.00 TRUCK, AND NOW HALF OF IT IS GOING TO BE BE SHADE OF BLACK AND THE REST WILL BE ANOTHER. I CAN SEE THEM NOT REPAINTING IF IT WAS SOMETHING WE HAD DONE TO CAUSE THIS AND IT BEING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THIS IS NOT THE CASE. I HAVE OWNED NOTHING BUT FORD PRODUCTS SINCE BEING ABLE TO PURCHASE A CAR, AND I AM TOTALLY DISHEARTENED WITH THEIR LACK OF CARING. CARS ARE NO LONGER A SMALL PURCHASE... THEY ARE EXPENSIVE AND A HUGE INVESTMENT. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH SUCH THINGS... WINDSHIELD WIPERS COME AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHILE TRAVELING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER. CAUSE OF FAILURE IS UNDETERMINED AT THIS TIME. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED IN FRONT OF THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE AND CAUSED A COLLISION. THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO HOSPITAL. THERE WERE NO FATALITIES. *AK *SCC *JB
FRONT RIGHT SEAT BELT RELEASED FROM THE BUCKLE FOUR TIMES DURING A FORTY MILE TRIP ON 8/7/02, THIS HAD HAPPENED TWO TIMES BEFORE, BUT WE ARE UNABLE TO RECALL THE DATES. *AK
DRIVING 65MPH ON INTERSTATE 45 IN HOUSTON WHEN TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND A LOUD TUMBLING NOISE STARTED TO EMIT FROM TIRES. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AND FOUND THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE TREAD HAD SPLIT APART FROM THE SIDEWALL. GENERAL GRABBER AW P255/70R16, 19K MILES. REPORTED TO CONTINENTAL TIRES; THEY DENIED THE $800 DOLLARS OF DAMAGE TO MY REAR WHEEL WELL CLAIMING THE TIRE WAS "RUN FLAT." BEFORE SHIPPING THE TIRE TO CONTINENTAL, IT WAS INSPECTED AND FOUND DEFECTIVE BY MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THREE OTHER AUTHORIZED GENERAL TIRE RETAILERS. TIRES WERE ROTATED EVERY 5K MILES AND OTHERWISE METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED.*AK

I OWN A 2002 FORD F-150, XLT, PURCHASED ON MAY 2002.RETURNING FROM A TRIP TO ORLANDO FLORIDA, I WAS TRAVELING WESTBOUND ON I-10, 45 MILES EAST OF TALLAHASSEE WHEN I LOST HEADLIGHTS ILUMINATION. LOSS HEADLIGHTS CAUSED ME TO RUN OFF THE ROAD, THOUGH I WAS ABLE TO KEEP CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND MINIMIZE MATERIAL DAMAGES. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT HEADLIGHT CONTROL KNOB IN DASHBOARD HAD BECAME LOOSE AND HAD CAUSED THE HEADLIGHTS TO TURN OFF.*AK
HELLO, I'M WRITING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT MY FRIENDS 2002 FORD LIGHTNING WHICH LAUNCHED A SPARK PLUG THROUGH THE HEAD. I'VE HEARD THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO MANY OF THESE TRUCKS, AND I THINK THE PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. HOW ABOUT A RECALL. *NLM
THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL COMING OUT OF THE AIR CONDITIONER VENTS IN THE WARM MONTHS. THAT I DESCRIBE AS A URINE ODOR. THE DEALERSHIP INSTALLED A FAN IN THE AIR CONDITIONER THAT COMES ON 15 MINUTES AFTER THE CAR IS TURNED OFF TO DRY OUT THE AIR UNIT.
I HAVE SEVERAL ISSUES, BOTH BACK DOOR WINDOWS HAVE FALLEN OFF TRACK AND WON'T STAY UP. THIS HAPPENED IN SEPTEMBER OF 07 AND A FEW MONTHS LATER THE SECOND REAR WINDOW DID THE SAME. I HAVE TO USE CLEAR PACKAGING TAPE TO HOLD THEM UP. THE KEY TO THE IGNITION WILL NOT TURN UNLESS I USE SOMETHING WITH A HARD END AND TAP IT SEVERAL TIMES. WHEN THE IGNITION PROBLEM FIRST HAPPENED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2006 I CALLED FORD ROAD SIDE SERVICE AND THEY RECOMMENDED TAPPING THE KEY SEVERAL TIMES AND SAID THEY HAD A GROWING COMPLAINT OF THIS. MY TRUNK LOCK LATCH OFTEN GETS STUCK TOO. JAN OF 2003 THE RADIO SHORTS IN AND OUT, I NEVER KNOW IF IT'S GOING TO STAY ON. LASTLY THE PASSENGER REAR DOOR LOOK DOESN'T LATCH, I THINK THIS HAPPENED IN LATE 2003 OR EARLY 2004. *TR
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILS INTERMITTENTLY, CAUSING HEADLIGHTS AND OTHER ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS TO BLINK. *AK
I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, TROOPERS, AND EMS ALL FELT THEY SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED.*AK
SHUDDER FROM REAR END WHEN TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT OR WHILE TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. *AK
TRUCK HIT A TREE GOING APROXIMATELY 30-40MPH. TRYING TO AVOID HITTING A LARGE DEER. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE TREE HIT IN THE CENTER FRONT OF THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS DUE TO ENGINE DAMAGE ETC. DRIVER WAS INJURED. THIS IS A 2002 F150 FORD TRUCK WITH ~24900 MILES ON IT. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY PREVIOUS ACCIDENTS. THE DRIVER WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE SEVERLY INJURED IF NOT WEARING HIS SEATBELT. AUTO SHOP COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HAVE BEEN GETTING THE RUN AROUND FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY AS WELL AS THE DEALERSHIP.
RIGHT AFTER 2002 EXPLORER SPORT 4X4 WAS OUT OF WARRANTY A WHINE FROM THE DIFFERENTIAL IN THE RANGE OF 40 - 80 MILE PER HOUR HAPPENS. FORD STATES TO LIVE WITH IT AND DOES NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILTY FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS AND MANUFACTURING OF DIFFERENTIAL.
CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON AS WE PROCEEDED UP A HILL. WHEN DRIVER TRIED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL IT WOULD NOT DISENGAGE. ENGINE CONTINUED TO EXCEL, GOING FASTER. IT REACHED SPEEDS OF ALMOST 80 MPH. HITTING BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP CRUISE CONTROL, NOR SLOW THE VEHICLE. *NLM

I BOUGHT MY F150 EXTENDED CAB IN APRIL 2002 AND AT 8,000 MILES THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR WAS HARD TO OPEN. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPAIRED IT AND WITHIN A FEW DAYS IT WAS HARD TO OPEN AGAIN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY FIXED IT AGAIN. AGAIN IT BECAME HARD TO OPEN I JUST TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER AND THEY TRIED TO FIX IT AGAIN WITH NO LUCK. I FEEL THAT THIS IS NOT SAFE IN CASE OF A WRECK THAT I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN IT TO GET MY 9 YEAR OLD SON OUT IF I HAD TO IN A HURRY. *NLM
VEHICLE HAS A GAP ON DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR OVER THE TOP. THE GAP CAUSES NOISE INSIDE THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. IT MAKES IT HARD TO KEEP THE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WITH NO RESULTS.*AK THE DEALER INSTALLED A RUBBER SEALER AROUND THE GAP BUT THIS SEEMED TO CAUSE MORE NOISE. THE RADIO, CD PLAYER AND TV IN THE REAR OF THE VAN STOPPED WORKING. THE ROTORS WARPED AND CAUSED VIBRATIONS WHEN BRAKING. WATER HAD GOTTEN INTO THE LEFT SIDE PARK LAMP. THE SEAT BELT WARNING CHIME AND LIGHT FAILED INTERMITTENTLY, THE DEALER REPLACED THE MODULE. *NM

REAR WHEELS HAVE ENOUGH PLAY IN THEM THAT THERE IS A NOTICEABLE CLUNK WHEN TURNING. TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND THE END PLAY OF THE AXLES ARE .020. FORD MANUFACTURER SAID UP TO .030 IS TOLERABLE AND I WILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE CLUNKING SOUND. I DID NOT PAY $30,000 FOR A TRUCK TO LISTEN TO A CLUNKING SOUND!
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN STALLING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR CHECKUP, BUT THE CAUSE WAS UNDETERMINED.*AK
SEVERAL TIMES PER DAY, MY DRIVER SIDE SEATBELT POPS OPEN WHILE DRIVING. MY CONCERNS HAVE FALLEN ON DEAF EARS AT THE DEALERSHIPS. NUMEROUS FRIENDS, FAMILY MEMBERS, AND WORK ASSOCIATES HAVE WITNESSED THIS HAPPENING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A LOT OF OTHER FORD OWNERS THAT THEIR DRIVER SIDE SEATBELTS IN THEIR TRUCKS AND SUVS DO THE SAME THING. I MADE A TRIP TO CALIFORNIA AND RIGHT BEFORE I LEFT I HAD THE OILS CHANGED ON MY TRUCK. MY TRUCK HAD ABOUT 15,000 MILES ON IT. THE TRIP WAS 1,000 MILES ROUND TRIP AND IT USED 2 1/2 QUARTS OF OIL. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NORMAL TO USE THAT MUCH OIL. AND THEY CHANGED THE OIL TO A DIFFERENT WEIGHT TO DO A TEST ON OIL CONSUMPTION. IT STILL USES OIL AND NOW THE MOTOR SMOKES WHEN YOU FIRST START IT UP. AND IF IT SITS FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS IT WILL KNOW LOUD WHEN YOU START IT. THE FOR D DEALER SAID THIS IS NORMAL. *NLM

ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE PITMAN ARM FELL OFF WHICH IT CAUSED COMPLETELY LOST OF STEERING AND THE CONSUMER HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY WAS CONTACTED AND HAS AGREED THAT THERE WAS NO BOLT PUT INTO THE PART THAT FELL OFF BUT THERE STILL NOT DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED TO THE RIGHT COULD NOT GAIN CONTROL BACK. THERE IS ONE SKID MARK 35 FEET LONG HIT AN ELECTRIC POLE WHEN CAME TO REST THE BACK PASSENGER TIRE HAD BROKE OFF AT THE AXEL. DT

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE NOTICED A PROBLEM IN THE INSTRUMENTAL CLUSTER DASH BOARD, DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. (SEE ODI#0814163). NLM
APPROXIMATELY ON MONTH AND 1800 MILES AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THE RIGHT FRONT TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALL. I TOOK THE TIRE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD REPLACE THE TIRE WITH ONE JUST LIKE IT BUT IT HAD TO BE ORDERED AND WOULD BE IN A DAY OR TWO. FOUR DAYS LATER THE TIRE WAS STILL NOT IN BUT THEY TOOK ONE OFF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND PUT IT ON MINE. TWO WEEKS LATER THE SAME WHEEL, WITH THE NEW TIRE, WENT FLAT AGAIN. THIS TIME THE DEALER TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO THE TIRE SHOP AND HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. I DID SO AND WAS TOLD THE WHEEL HAD A LEAKING VALVE STEM, WAS FIXED FREE OF CHARGE AND SO FAR IS STILL UP. ON 10-23 THE RIGHT REAR TIRE ON MY TRUCK WENT FLAT. IT AS ALL THE REST ARE ALSO GENERAL GRABBERS. THE ONLY THING I CAN SEE THAT COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE REAR TIRE FLAT IS A ROCK STUCK BETWEEN THE TREAD, THOUGH I HAVEN'T CHECKED TO SEE IF IT PUNCTURED THE TIRE OR NOT. I'M TAKING THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY OR TWO TO LET THEM INSPECT IT. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THE GRABBER AW AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 17" VERSION. THE DEALER AND FORD HAVE FLATLY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TIRES WITH A TRUSTWORTHY AND SAFER TIRE. IN LIGHT OF ALL THE PROBLEMS FORD HAS HAD WITH TIRES IT APPEARS TO ME THEY WOULD BE A LITTLE MORE CAREFUL WITH THE QUALITY OF TIRES THEY PUT ON THE VEHICLES THEY MANUFACTURE. THESE TIRES ARE UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS, AND ALTHOUGH COVERED UNDER FORD'S WARRANTY, COULD BE DISASTROUS SHOULD ANOTHER ONE OF THEM SEPARATE. WHILE DRIVING 70MPH DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WINDOW SHATTERED INSIDE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS ON THE INTERSTATE, AND THE TEMPERATURE WAS AN AVERAGE 86 DEGEREES. NO OBJECTS WERE FOUND THROWN INSIDE. FORD WAS NOT NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
TRUCK IS A F-150 WITH A 3.55 LIMITED SLIP AXLE. THERE IS A VERY NOTICEABLE WHINE COMING FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTAIL. NOISE STARTS AT 40 MPH BUT IS MOST NOTICEABLE AT 60 MPH. NOISE IS WITH SLIGHT ACCELERATION, IF I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS IT STOPS. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE BEARINGS, DRIVE SHAFT AND GEARS BUT IT HASN'T HELPED. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD KNOWN PROBLEM BUT THEY DON'T SEEM TO HAVE A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO SELL THIS TRUCK WITH THIS PROBLEM.*AK
VERY SERIOUS FAILURE!!! WHILE BACKING UP A STEEP HILL IN 4WD. THE TRUCK'S PITMAN ARM CAME COMPLETELY OFF OF THE SPLINED SHAFT THAT COMES OUT OF THE STEERING BOX. SO, THERE WAS NO LONGER ANY CONNECTION BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE FRONT WHEELS. THE RETAINING NUT AND LOCK WASHER CAME OFF, TOO, AND WERE RECOVERED. THE LOCK WASHER IS OF THE HELICAL SPRING TYPE, AND HAS A BLACK OXIDE FINISH. BECAUSE OF THIS FINISH, IT IS EASY TO DEDUCE FROM THE WEAR MARKS ON THE WASHER. THAT THE RETAINING NUT WAS NOT TORQUED AT THE FACTORY. LUCKILY THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AT ALMOST ZERO SPEED IN A DRIVEWAY. CLEARLY, HAD IT OCCURRED AT FREEWAY SPEED (WHICH IS WHERE THE TRUCK WOULD HAVE BEEN 2 MILES LATER), THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. THE OWNER OF THIS CAR, WOODY PORTER, IS MY FATHER-IN-LAW.
