TRUCK WAS TOTALED AND THE ONE PIECE OF TIRE WE HAVE DOES NOT HAVE THE DOT NUMBERS ON THEM. WHEN THE BLOW OUT OCCURRED I HIT SOFT SAND LOSING TRACTION CAUSING THE TRUCK TO ROLL 3 TIMES WHILE ON A MAIN ROAD. I WILL BE INCLUDING THREE PICTURES - ONE OF THE TIRE ON ITS RIM, ONE OF THE TRUCK AT THE TOW YARD AND ONE OF THE PIECE OF TIRE WE PICKED UP OFF THE ROAD UPON MY RELEASE FROM THE HOSPITAL. THE CHP OFFICER DID NOT SPEAK TO ANY WITNESSES AND I HEARD THE LADY WHO CALLED 911 TELL THE OFFICER I SUFFERED A BLOW OUT AND SHE POINTED IT OUT TO HIM - YET HE DOES NOT EVEN MENTION IT IN THE REPORT NOR THE NAMES OF ANY WITNESSES. MY INSURANCE COMPANY (AAA) CLAIMS UNLESS I FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE TIRE MANUFACTURER THEY WILL FIND ME AT FAULT FOR NOT MAINTAINING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHICH I FIND TO BE TOTALLY RIDICULOUS. I HANDLED A BLOW OUT IN A FORD EXPLORER ON A DRY FREEWAY PREVIOUSLY AND WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT ANY SERIOUS DAMAGE OR INJURIES. DIFFERENT STORY WHEN YOU HIT SAND. I FEEL THE TIRE BLOWING OUT IS WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT.

TAKATA RECALL. WHILE I WAS DRIVING I NOTICED A LOUD POP AND MY TRUCK STARTED VIBRATING AND SPUN ME SIDEWAYS GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I HAD FOUGHT IT UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET IT UNDER CONTROL AND COME TO A STOP. (I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH THAT NOBODY ELSE WAS HEADING IN MY DIRECTION BECAUSE THE TRUCK TOOK UP BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD). I GOT OUT AND LOOKED TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND SEEN MY ALUMINUM FORD FACTORY RIM HAD BUSTED INTO PIECES. TAKATA RECALL. A PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING AS OF RIGHT NOW IS SPARK PLUGS KEEP FLYING OUT AND DESTROYING MY COIL PACKS. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IT HAS DONE THIS.
FRONT BRAKE CALIPER MOUNTING BRACKET SEIZED ON THE SLIDE BOLTS THAT ALLOW THE BRAKES TO MOVE IN AND OUT WHEN PRESSED AND RELEASED. THE SLIDE BOLTS THAT ALLOW THE CALIPER TO MOVE HAVE SEIZED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL VERY HARD TO ONE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IN MY CASE I WAS TOWING A 20' COMMERCIAL LANDSCAPE TRAILER EQUIPPED WITH DUAL AXLE TRAILER BRAKES. I APPROACHED A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND PROCEEDED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN GOING A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 20 MPH WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE DURING THE TURN THE TRUCK PULLED EXTREMELY HARD TO THE LEFT RESULTING IN MY TRAILER JACK KNIFING INTO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TRUCK CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO MY BED AND REAR WHEEL ON MY TRUCK. LATER AFTER INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE OF THE SUDDEN PULL FOUND THAT THE LEFT BRAKE CALIPER MOUNTING BRACKET HAD ONE OF THE BOLTS SEIZED WHILE THE OTHER WAS MOVING PROPERLY ALLOWING THE BRAKE TO MOVE A LITTLE BUT NOT PROPERLY CAUSING THE BRAKE TO DRAG AGAINST THE ROTOR ON THE INNER BRAKE PAD. WHEN THE BRAKE IS PRESSED THE PRESSURE PULLS THE TRUCK TO THE LEFT EXTREMELY HARD. REPLACING THE SLIDE BOLTS AND THE BRAKE CALIPER MOUNTING BRACKET FIXED THIS ISSUE AND I HAVEN'T HAD ANY ISSUES AFTER REPLACEMENT. I KNOW THIS MAY BE A LITTLE HARD TO UNDERSTAND AS MY DESCRIPTION MAY NOT BE THE BEST, BUT THE UPPER BRAKE CALIPER BOLT WAS SEIZED WHILE THE LOWER BOLT WAS MOVING FREELY, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDDLE WAS PRESSED CAUSED THE LEFT BRAKE CALIPER TO GRAB HARDER THAN THE RIGHT SIDE CAUSING THE TRUCK TO PULL EXTREMELY HARD TO THE LEFT. THE TRAILER BRAKE WAS SET ON 7 AT THE TIME AND WORKED PROPERLY. THE TRUCK PULLED SO HARD TO THE LEFT CAUSED THE TRAILER TO BE AT SUCH A TIGHT ANGLE IT BEGAN TO SLIDE AND WHEN I REALIZED WHAT WAS HAPPENING IT WAS TO LATE TO CORRECT IT. THE BED IS STILL DAMAGED FROM THIS. BTW I BOUGHT MY FORD IN 2002 BRAND NEW WITH 5.4 V8 AND I AM AT 271,000 MILES AND IT RUNS LIKE THE DAY I PURCHASED IT! I LOVE IT! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOUND A CRACK IN THE REAR ALUMINUM WHEEL RIMS. THE MANUFACTURE WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE DEALER ADVISED THE OWNER WOULD BE LIABLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THERE ARE NO FAILURES TO DATE. THE ATTEMPTED TO RETURN THE DEFECTIVE TIRES TO THE STORE WHERE HE PURCHASED THEM; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THEM AT HIS EXPENSE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,041. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,022.

DIFFERENT TIRE, SAME BRAND, WENT FLAT WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE, 082608. HAD ROAD SERVICE REPLACE WITH SPARE TIRE TO DRIVE HOME. INSPECTED TIRE AT HOME AND DETERMINED ANOTHER VALVE STEM CRACK/DEFECT. NO ACCIDENT OR VEHICLE DAMAGE OCCURRED, ALTHOUGH THE INTERSTATE FLAT MAY HAVE BEEN BUT I WAS NOTIFIED BY PASSING MOTORISTS THAT TIRE WAS GOING FLAT. WILL TAKE LATEST FLAT TIRE TO TIRE SHOP THIS WEEKEND TO HAVE ANOTHER VALVE STEM REPLACEMENT. CONCERNED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES ARE SAME MAKE AND BRAND, BOUGHT AT SAME TIME, AND I HAVE HAD TWO VALVE STEM FAILURES IN TWO MONTHS. *TR
TWO OF THE FOUR 265-70-17 CONTITRAC SUV TIRES WITH 26,000 MILES THAT WERE INSTALLED AS REPLACEMENT TIRES ON MY 2002 FORD SUPERCREW HAVE BROKEN BELTS INSIDE THE TIRE IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS. THESE TIRES HAVE A BULGE THAT SHIFTS THE TREAD APX 2CM OVER AND UP 1CM. THIS MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP THE TRUCK ON THE ROAD AT 65 MPH. THE FORD DEALER HAS BEEN HAPPY TO SELL ME A NEW TIRE BUT HAS NOT GIVEN ANY CREDIT, (PRO-RATE) FOR THE FACT THE TIRE HAS BEEN RENDERED USELESS IN LESS THAN 40% OF THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF THE TIRE. MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER, AT APPROX. 62,000 MILES WAS MAKING A LOUD HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR WHEELS WHEN YOU HIT THE GAS. I TOOK IT TO A GOODYEAR SERVICE CENTER & WAS TOLD THEY'VE SERVICED AT LEAST 6-7 OF THE 2002 EXPLORERS FOR THE SAME ISSUE- SOME WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS POOR DESIGN ON FORD'S PART OF THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY? IT COST ME OVER $300 TO FIX THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL ASSEMBLY- THEY HAD TO REPLACE A ROTOR IN THE PROCESS BECAUSE WATER GOT IN WHERE THE SEAL BROKE AND RUSTED TO THE ROTOR AND HAD TO BE CUT OFF. THEY SAID THE SEAL IS BAD ON THE ASSEMBLY AND THE WHOLE WHEEL ASSEMBLY COMES APART. THEY SAVED PARTS TO SHOW ME & SAID IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE (REAR WHEEL COULD COME OFF). I'M VERY ANGRY- I'M NOW HEARING THE SAME HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL. I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THE SAME ISSUE, YET FORD HAS NOT HAD A RECALL?!? THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO MY CAR WITH MY DAUGHTER INSIDE, FORD WILL HAVE A HUGE LAWSUIT ON THEIR HANDS. I HAVE BEEN VERY DISSATISFIED WITH MY FORD EXPLORER. NUMEROUS TRIPS TO THE DEALER, AND THEY COULD NEVER RECREATE. FINALLY IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE IT WAS SO BAD THAT THEY FINALLY HEARD WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT & REPLACED SOME REAR HATCH LOCK. IT SEEMED OK....UNTIL A WEEK LATER WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT STILL DOES IT INTERMITTENTLY, BUT I AM SO SICK OF TAKING IT IN FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THEN I THINK THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN GOING AS WELL- IT STICKS WHEN YOU TRY TO PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. *NM
WHILE HAVING MY VEHICLE SERVICED TODAY, I ASKED MY MECHANIC TO CHECK A SHAKING IN THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK. I FIRST NOTICED THE SHAKING ON JULY 3RD, 2005. WHEN HE CALLED, HE TOLD ME THAT I HAD TWO DEFECTIVE TIRES, AND THEY WERE TO THE POINT THAT THE WIRES WERE PUSHING THROUGH THE RUBBER. THE LAST TIME MY VEHICLE WAS SERVICED, IN MAY, THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH MY TIRES.
I PURCHASED 4 NEW GOODYEAR FORTERA TIRES 8/2004 AND HAD FREEWAY BLOW OUTS ON 3 OF THE 4 TIRES WITH LESS THAN 15,000 MILES ON EACH TIRE. BLOW OUTS OCCURED 2 IN MAY AND 1 IN JUNE. I REPLACED THE FIRST 2 AGAIN WITH FORTERA TIRES, BUT AFTER BLOW #3 I REQUESTED THAT GOODYEAR PRORATE ALL TIRES SO I COULD REPLACE WITH ANOTHER BRAND BUT THEY REFUSED. GIVEN THIS EXPERIENCE I BELIEVE THESE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE TESTED AND POSSIBLY RECALLED. THE DEALER COULD NOT DETECT WHY THE TIRES FAILED DUE TO DAMAGE FROM FREEWAY BLOW OUTS AND HAVING TO DRIVE OFF OF THE FREEWAY BEFORE STOPPING.
I HAD BOUGHT A USED 2002 FORD EXPLORER XLT A FEW MONTHS AGO AND NOTICED A LOT OF HORIZANTAL CUTS ON THE SIDEWALLS OF THE MICHELAN TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. AFTER LOOKING ON THIS WEB SITE AND NOTICED A RECALL FOR THE FORD THAT I OWNED ( NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 01V171000 ) AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP NEAR ME. THEY SAID THEY HAD NO RECALL IN THEIR SYSTEM FOR MY VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH MY FORD WAS MADE AT THIS LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY PLANT AT THE TIME SPECIFIED ON THIS RECALL. I EVEN CALLED THE FORD COMPLAINT LINE AND THEY AS WELL SAID NOTHING WAS IN THEIR SYSTEM? IS THERE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION, IT IS DEFINITELY A TIRE DEFECT AND THE FORD STILL HAS PLENTY OF TREAD LEFT; JUST KIND OF WORRIED FOR MY SAFETY? THE CABLE THAT ATTACHED THE SPARE TIRE TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK BED SNAPPED. WE LOST THE SPARE TIRE. WE THINK IT FELL ON THE HIGHWAY THOUGH WE COULD NOT FIND IT.
