PART #4L3Z 9D370 A (CONTROL UNIT) THIS IS THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE ON A 2006 FORD F150 THAT FAILED BECAUSE THE SHELL THAT HOLDS THE MICRO CHIPS RUSTED OUT. THIS SHOULD BE NOTED TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY BECAUSE IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN COLD WEATHER STATES. P.S. REPAIR COST AT FORD DEALERSHIP $458.78. *TR
MY STEERING WHEEL IS STIFF. AND HARD TO TURN THE MECHANIC SAID IT IS A RECALLED RACK AND PINION. *TR
VEHICLE STARTED MISSING AND BUCKING. BROUGHT INTO MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH TRITON 5.4L ENGINE. NEEDS SPARK PLUG CHANGE AND CHANCES ARE THEY WILL BREAK OFF IN ENGINE WHILE CHANGING (WHICH 5 OUT OF 8 DID). TOTAL COST A SHAMEFUL $800 (ESTIMATE WAS BETWEEN $600-$1200). MECHANIC PULLED OUT MANY PRIOR INVOICES FROM OWNERS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THE SPARK PLUGS IN THESE ENGINES SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
ENGINE HAD BLOWN A PLUG OUT ABOUT 300 MILES AGO ON THE NUMBER 3 WAS REPAIRED WITH REPAIR KIT NEW PLUG AND COIL WAS PUT ON. WAS TRAVELING STARTED UP HILL ENGINE BEGAN TO MISS DROVE 20 MILES TO DESTINATION HAD TRUCK TESTED AT ADVANCE AUTO PARTS READOUT STATED MISFIRE ON CYLINDER 1 AND 3 AND BAD COIL ON 3. REPLACED COIL 3 AGAIN TOOK TO MECHANIC HIS COMPUTER READ OUT WAS NUMBER 8 COIL WAS BAD REPLACED IT ENGINE CONTINUED TO MISS TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC HE CHANGED ALL THE PLUGS THE 2ND PLUG ON DRIVERS SIDE WAS LOOSE AND READY TO BLOW OUT AND HE TOOK THE NUMBER 3 PLUG OUT THAT HAD BEEN REPLACED PRIOR THE WHOLE BOTTOM OF PLUG WAS MELTED COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FIRE LOOKED DOWN IN ENGINE WITH CAMERA THE PISTON WAS DESTROYED. THIS PROBLEM IS FROM THE FACTORY INSTALLED PLUG BLOWING OUT AND FRAGMENTS GOING INTO ENGINE. NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE MY ENGINE 2500 OUT OF MY POCKET D/T POOR HEAD DESIGN FORD IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND REFUSES ANY ASSISTANCE FORD ACTUALLY HAS EXCLUDED BLOWN PLUG REPAIR FROM THEIR WARRANTY. WHEN YOU PURCHASE A NEW VEHICLE YOU EXPECT TO GET MORE THAN 106000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD F-150. WHILE MAKING A TURN AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FLUID NEEDED TO BE REFILLED. THE FLUID WAS REPLENISHED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,678.

ENGINE STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE UPON INSPECTION OF ENGINE FOUND THAT THE BACK SPARK PLUG ON PASSENGER SIDE HAD BLOWN OUT FROM HEAD AND OF COURSE STRIPPED THE TREADS FROM THE HEAD THE SPARK PLUGS ARE THE ONES THAT CAME FROM FACTORY THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN REMOVED OR REPLACED VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AFTER REVIEWING INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET THIS SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH FORDS 4.6 AND 5.4 ENGINE AS WELL AS RESULTING IN FIRES AND CONSIDERING FORD MAKES A REPAIR KIT. IF THIS HAS EFFECTED THIS MANY VEHICLE SHOULDN'T FORD FOOT THE BILL. *TR
GAS AND BRAKE PEDAL ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. YOU COULD STILL BE GIVING IT GAS WHILE YOU ARE PUSHING ON THE BRAKES. I SEE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ONLINE.I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT WHEN I THOUGHT I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES THE OTHER HALF OF MY FOOT WAS ON THE GAS CAUSING ME TO JUMP THE CURB AND CRASH INTO A WALL. *TR
THE ELECTRIC WINDOWS AND DOOR LOCKS AND MIRROR ADJUSTMENTS ALL STOPPED WORKING ON MY 2006 F150. AFTER DOING SOME LOOKING I FOUND THAT THE WIRE HARNESS THAT RUNS TO THE DOOR HAS MOST OF THE WIRES BROKEN OR BREAKING IN HALF THUS LEAVING BARE WIRES EXPOSED AND A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD THE WAY IT LOOKS TO ME. *TR
TRUCK STUTTERED & STALLED, WOULD NOT RESTART. TOWED FORD TO DEALER. FAILURE CAUSED BY CORRODED, CRACKED FUEL PUMP MODULE. THE MODULE BODY IS MADE OF AN ALLOY METAL MATERIAL, AND THE MODULE IS BOLTED DIRECTLY TO THE STEEL FRAME NEAR THE GAS TANK, MOISTURE AND DIS-SIMILAR METALS (ELECTROLYSIS) CAUSED RAPID DETERIORATION OF MODULE BODY. THIS POOR DESIGN CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN AT ANY SPEED/SITUATION, LOSS OF POWER STEERING & BRAKES WOULD OCCUR. AS A PART OF REGULAR MAINTENANCE I ALWAYS HAVE WELL IN ADVANCE PERFORMED SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ON MY 06 F-150.ON AUG 23 2013 I HAD MY ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS ALL REPLACED AS WELL AS HAVING A HI PRESSURE BRAKE FLUID CHANGE PERFORMED AS PART OF THIS AS SUGGESTED BY THE BILL CURRIE FORD DEALERSHIP IN TAMPA. THE TRUCK HAD 83,996 MILES ON IT AT THIS TIME OF SERVICE. THE TRUCK WAS RARELY DRIVEN AFTER THAT AND USED ONLY ON SHORT TRIPS.OF 10-20 MILES OR LESS AFTER HAVING THE BRAKES SERVICED. FRIDAY JULY 18TH 2014..THE TUCK HAD ONLY APPROX. 2000 ADDITIONAL MILES ON IT AFTER THE BRAKES WERE SERVICED AT BILL CURRIE FORD.I AND A FRIEND WERE DRIVING TO PICKUP A WASHING MACHINE ABOUT 30 MILES AWAY. WITHOUT WARNING. UPON RETURNING THE RIGHT WHEEL BEGAN PULLING TO THE RIGHT AND SMOKE AND A RUBBER AND PLASTIC SMELL ACCOMPANIED BY SMOKE STARTING RISING FROM THE RIGHT WHEEL WELL WHICH WAS SCOTCHING HOT. THE HEAT WAS SO INTENSE THAT WHEN WE STOPPED THE PLASTIC WHEEL COVER FELL OFF BECAUSE ITS WAS MELTED.IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WERE THE ORIGINAL WORK WAS PERFORMED. I WAS INFORMED IT WAS THE CALIPER,THAT IT HAD SEIZED AND THAT AFTER ALREADY HAVING REPLACED THE FRONT ROTOR SEVERAL THOUSAND MILES BEFORE//THE RIGHT ROTOR AND CALIPER AND BRAKE LINE WOULD NOW HAVE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN..BECAUSE THEY SAID.."WE CAN'T TELL WHEN A CALIPER WILL FAIL". NOW IT HAS COST ME $2,300,00 TO GET MY BRAKES DONE..WHEN INITIALLY THEY WERE STILL IN SAFE LIMITS.WE WERE LUCKY THIS DIDN'T CAUSE A FIRE OR CAUSE THE TIRE TO BLOW OUT WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SPUTTER, AND AS I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND TRIED TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE THE TRUCK QUIT ON ME. I TRIED TO START IT BACK UP IN ORDER TO GET OFF THE MAIN ROAD BUT THE VEHICLE DIDN'T START. I ENDED UP HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL SHOP AND AFTER A DIAGNOSIS THAT COST $124.95 THEY FOUND OUT THAT THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE WHEN BAD. THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE COST $234.44. SO ALL TOGETHER WITH PARTS, LABOR AND TAX IT COST ME $496.88 WITHOUT INCLUDING THE COST TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE IS BOLTED DIRECTLY TO THE FRAME CROSS MEMBER, AND WITH MINNESOTA WINTERS SNOW AND ROAD SALT GET TRAPPED BETWEEN THE TWO PARTS. THE PART WILL EVENTUALLY RUST, CRACK, AND THEN THE FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE GOES BAD. IT WAS NICE TO SEE THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART HAS A PLASTIC HOUSING WITH A COUPLE SPACERS TO MOVE IT AWAY FROM THE CROSS MEMBER TO POSSIBLY ELIMINATE THIS PROBLEM. FORD HAD TO KNOW ABOUT A PROBLEM WITH THIS COMPONENT OTHERWISE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE CHANGED THE DESIGN RIGHT? *TR
MY TRUCK WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE 74,000 MILES ON MY TRUCK AND THE TRANSMISSION IS STARTING TO SLIP. WITH THIS LOW MILEAGE THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. *TR
UPON ATTEMPTING TO START MY 2006 FORD F150 SUPER CREW CAB VEHICLE (5.4L), THE ENGINE WILL ATTEMPT TO CRANK OVER BUT WILL NOT TURN ON. UPON FURTHER DIAGNOSIS, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE IS NOT WORKING. IT BECAME COMPLETELY RUSTY AND EXHIBITS HOLES THROUGHOUT THE SURFACE OF THE MODULE. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM THAT FORD IS VERY WELL AWARE OF AND HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM. I THINK A CIVIL CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SHOULD HELP THEM WITH THEM MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION TO REPAIR THE MODULE AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING ISSUE THAT FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT FOR SEVERAL YEARS. UPON SPEAKING WITH FORD DIRECTLY, I WAS ADVISED THAT THEIR HAS BEEN RECALLS FOR THAT EXACT PART BUT NOT FOR THE 2006 FORD F150. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND INEXCUSABLE. THIS WILL BE MY LAST FORD PURCHASE. I'VE BEEN A FORD MAN ALL MY LIFE. NOT ANYMORE.... *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO NOTICED THE BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM HOSE HAD COLLAPSED. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF A RECALL NOTIFICATION UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V208000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC),HOWEVER, HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
AT VERY LOW MILEAGE I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY I WAS HEARING A WHINING NOISE THAT APPEARED FROM COMING THE REAR OF MY TRUCK. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE GEARS WERE BREAKING DOWN AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE GEAR AND PINION WERE REPLACED. SEEMS TO BE FIXED. AGAIN AT 57814 MILES? *TR
Received notification by mail from your department about a recall on my trucks spark plugs breaking in the head .Took vehicle to local ford dealer and was told the vehicle was required to have over 100 thousand miles before the plugs would be replaced under recall . Now my vehicle has over 150 thousand miles and when I went to the same dealer I was told there wasn’t a recall on this truck . My documents I received from your department was lost during hurricane Sally. This is a well known recall every local mechanic knows about .

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND DIAGNOSED THAT A LOWER JOINT IN THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE BUCKLE NOT TO LATCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND REPLACED THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. APRIL 14, 2014 AFTER LEAVING MY DOCTORS OFFICE I BUCKLED MY SEATBELT AS REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW I MADE ONE LEFT HAND TURN AND STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT AS I BEGAN MY TURN TO THE RIGHT WHEN LIGHT CHANGED THE SEALBELT CAME LOOSE FROM THE BUCKLE. THE TOP OF THE BUCKLE WAS STUCK DOWNWARD AND WOULD NOT RELEASE FOR ME TO BUCKLE IT AGAIN. WHEN RETURNING HOME I CALLED MIKE SHAD FORD IN JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA WHERE I PURCHASED IT. I WAS TOLD MY TRUCK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD REPLACE IT FOR $294.71 DOLLARS IT WAS NOT ON A RECALL LIST. I THEREFORE CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO THE YOUNG LADY WHOM ANSWERED THE PHONE WHAT HAPPENED TELLING HER IT NEEDED TO BE PUT ON A RECALL LIST SHE REFUSED TO LISTEN AND HUNG UP. I THEN CALLED THE NHTSA AND REPORTED IT TO THEM. I AM SURE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO PURCHASED THAT YEAR TRUCK THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO. I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD HAVE REPLACED MY PART FREE OF CHARGE HOWEVER THEY DID NOT. SO I PAID FOR THE NEW PART AND IT WAS INSTALLED BY A TRAINED FORD TECHNICIAN. VEHICLE ENGINE SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN. THE PROBLEM WAS THE FUEL CONTROL MODULE, FORD PART # 9D370, ALUMINUM CASING CORRODED THROUGH EXPOSING THE INTERNAL CIRCUIT BOARDS. THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR THE 2004 THROUGH 2006 F150 AND CAN CAUSE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF IT SHUTS DOWN WHILE IN TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN US 281(BUSY 3 LANE HIGHWAY) IN SAN ANTONIO AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF CAUSING ME TO COAST TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. ONCE I GOT OFF OF THE ROAD, THE ENGINE STARTED UP LIKE NOTHING WAS WRONG. AFTER I INSPECTED THE FLUIDS AND SAW EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT, I GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY ONLY TO HAVE THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AGAIN. I CALLED FORD TO SEE IF THERE WAS AN ISSUE REPORTED OR A RECALL, AND THERE WAS NOTHING. I FOUND OVER 300 COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS FORUMS BY TYPING IN --2006 F150 FAILSAFE--IN THE SEARCH ENGINE. I THINK THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED ON THE ROAD. ALL THE GAUGES IN MY TRUCK STOPPED WORKING. FIRST THE SPEEDOMETER THEN ALL THE GAUGES. AT FIRST THEY JUST FLUCTUATED THEN THEY ALL STOPPED. I BROUGHT MY TRUCK IN TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IT IS A 2006 F150 4.6L - AFTER HIS INSPECTION, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE #2 SPARK PLUG (MANUFACTURE INSTALLED) HAD DISINTEGRATED AND FELL INTO THE HEAD CAUSING SO MUCH DAMAGE TO THE #2 CYLINDER THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE AT A COST OF OVER $6,000 PLUS TAX. IT WILL TAKE OVER A WEEK TO FIX AND I DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE. I WOULD LIKE FORD TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE EXPENSE. WENT TO START TRUCK AND ENGINE WOULD CRANK BUT WOULD NOT FIRE. I TRIED THE STARTING FLUID TEST TO SEE IF IT WAS AN IGNITION PROBLEM OR FUEL PROBLEM. GAVE A LITTLE SHOT OF STARTING FLUID INTO THE INTAKE AND THEN TRIED TO START. MOTOR ACTED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO START BUT NEVER STARTED BEINGS I DIDN'T GIVE IT ENOUGH STARTING FLUID TO START BECAUSE I'M NOT A FAN OF USING IT. WITH THAT I ELIMINATED THE IGNITION HAD TO BE FUEL. I GOT ON THE INTERNET AND SEARCHED NO START PROBLEM FOR 2006 F-150 AND FOUND A YOU TUBE VIDEO OF THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE RUSTING OUT. WENT OUT AND DROPPED SPARE TIRE AND TOOK THE CONTROL MODULE OFF THE CROSS MEMBER AND NOTICED THE HOLE CORRODED THROUGH THE HOUSING JUST LIKE THE VIDEO. I GOT THE UPGRADED PART FROM A FORD DEALER FOR $163 AND INSTALLED. RUNS FINE NOW. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT IS FORD KNOWS THERE'S A PROBLEM SINCE THE HAVE CAME OUT WITH AN UPGRADED CONTROL MODULE SO WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL? I LIVE IN A STATE THAT TEMPERATURES IN THE WINTER MONTHS CAN BE BELOW 0 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AND DRIVE AN HOUR ONE WAY TO WORK, THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHEN I WAS ON THE ROAD IN EXTREME COLD, COULD OF HAD MY TWO CHILDREN WITH ME BROKE DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND COLD OUT. MY 2006 FORD F150 FX4 HAS STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY AT TWO DIFFERENT TIMES IN THE LAST 9,000 MILES.
