I have had a coolant leak but haven't been able to find it until now. It is below the thermostat housing, between the manifolds and the metal tube that hooks the bottom of the thermostat to the manifold. I know there is a recall issued for this but it doesn't seem to come up on my truck. In my opinion it should.

While driving lost power from 70 mph to 45 mph drove it slow home Once I parked check engine light and noticed smoke coming from behind and lower part of engine after checking for heat source noticed glowing areas it was the insulation between engine and floor I had to use extinguisher in 4 areas to extinguish I disconnected battery power
The phasers and the timing chain and tensioners is failing. This is premature failure due to engineering mistakes in the design. This is a safety critical walk home failure. Failure will destroy the engine (interference engine). Complete loss of all power and lock up of engine. Mechanic said the only remedy is a rebuilt engine. A reputable engine rebuilder states in their ad on the internet that they have corrected the Ford Motor Company engineering design mistakes in the 5.4l Triton engine.

We are having constant problems with cylinders misfiring. Once we get one fixed, another one breaks. It’s a constant issue.

THE CONTACT REVVED THE ENGINE TO RESUME NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. THE CONTACT USED A SCAN TOOL TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE AND DISCOVERED THAT CHAFING ON THE WIRING HARNESS HAD CAUSED THE FAILURE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 175,000.
EXHAUST SMELL/RAW GAS SMELL COMING THROUGH THE HEATING DUCT SYSTEM INTO THE CAB OF TRUCK. ONLY HAPPENS WHEN USING THE HEATING/DEFROST SYSTEM. DOESN'T MATTER IF THE VEHICLE IS MOVING OR AT REST. MUST CRACK WINDOW FOR FRESH AIR OR TURN OFF HEATING/DEFROST SYSTEM. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE MID NOVEMBER BUT ONLY WHEN TURNING ON THE HEATING/DEFROST SYSTEM. HAPPENS AT HWY SPEEDS AND LOCAL DRIVING SPEED BETWEEN 30-50 MPH.
TRUCK LOOSING POWER AND TAPPING AND KNOCKING NOISE, WAS TOLD IT IS PHAZERS AND TIMING CHAINS AND VCT'S AND COULD JUST STOP RUNNING WHILE DRIVING IF THE PHAZERS LOCK UP. THE TIME CHAIN SKIPS A TOOTH. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS LEADING TO INJECTORS AND CONSTANT MISFIRES. I WAS DRIVING WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR STARTED LOOSING POWER AND A RATTLING NOISE STARTED.
MY VEHICLE HAS A 4.6L V-8 ENGINE. THE REAR SPARK PLUG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE EJECTED FROM IT'S CYLINDER. I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 50 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE EJECTION OCCURRED.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT HAD NOT ISSUED AN ENGINE RECALL TO ADDRESS THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NINE TSBS ON THE ENGINE AND ENGINE ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE REMAINED PARKED DUE TO THE INTERMITTENT FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

ABOUT A WEEK AGO THE TICKING GOT LOUDER AND I LOOKED UP PROBLEMS ONLINE, AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE ENGINE THAT CAUSES CAM PHASERS TO FAIL, AND OIL PRESSURE DROPS TO ZERO. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT WHEN I CALLED THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, AND THAT IT WOULD BE ON ME. I LOOKED ON SEVERAL FORD FORUMS AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE 1000'S OF PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THIS. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE GETTING KILLED BEFORE FORD OWNS UP TO THERE PROBLEMS! THEY ARE IGNORING THE ISSUE AND HAVING THE CONSUMER PAY AYWHERE FROM 3500- 8000 DOLLARS TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. ALSO, THE ENGINE HAS VERY BAD POWER LOSS AND SHAKES VIGOURESLY WHEN WARM AND PULLING UP TO STOP OR REVERSE.
