WHILE ON VACATION MY 13 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER WAS LYING DOWN AND HAD HER SEAT BELT AROUND HER WHEN SHE SAT UP THE BELT BECAME LOCKED AND WE WERE UNABLE TO RELEASE IT. I TRIED TO GET IT TO RELEASE BUT IT TIGHTENED EVEN MORE. MY HUSBAND THEREFORE HAD TO CUT THE SEATBELT TO GET HER OUT AS IT HAD TIGHTEN TO THE POINT THAT HER STOMACH WAS SQUEEZED SO TIGHT IT WAS MAKING HER CRY. I THOUGHT AT FIRST IT WAS BECAUSE SHE HAD BEEN LYING DOWN. NOW THE OTHER SCENARIO IS ON AUGUST 12, 2010 MY SEAT BELT WAS BECOMING UNCOMFORTABLE SO I WENT TO PULL IT DOWN, IT LOCKED AND I HAD TO UNHOOK IT TO GET IT TO RELEASE AND THAT TOOK SEVERAL TRIES. I HAVE NOT FIXED THE SEAT BELT. I AM ALSO REPORTING THIS IN CASE ANOTHER PERSON SHOULD HAVE A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. THE VEHICLE IS A 2009 FORD F 150. FOR THE RECORD THIS WAS TWO DIFFERENT INCIDENTS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE BRAKES SEIZED AND THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR NINE DAYS. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE ABS MODULE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. ADDITIONALLY, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STIFF AND EXTREMELY HARD TO DEPRESS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F150. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGERS SIDE FRONT HEADLIGHT WAS NOT WORKING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIANS REPLACED THE SMART JUNCTION BOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SMART BOX NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED BECAUSE IT DID NOT CONTAIN ALL OF THE FEATURES THAT WERE INCLUDED PRIOR TO THE REPAIR. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO REACH THE MANUFACTURER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE WAS 20,000. UPDATED 3/25/11 *CN UPDATED 04/28/11
EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE MUST BE PULLED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE DOOR OPENS. DELAYS ENTRY INTO VEHICLE, BOTH SIDES AFFECTED. NO DIFFERENCE NOTICED WITH VEHICLE RUNNING OR PRIOR TO STARTING. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A LONG TIME.
I HAVE AN 09 F150. MY PROBLEM IS WITH THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS). IT KEEPS INDICATING A TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAULT. I TOOK IT TO ONE FORD DEALER AND THEY REPLACED 3 OF THE WHEEL SENSORS. I WENT ON A 1600 MILE TRIP AFTER THAT AND I CONTINUED TO GET TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAULT. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE PREVIOUS FORD DEALER HAD INSTALLED THEM INCORRECTLY. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. AFTER CONSULTING WITH THE ORIGINAL DEALER WE DETERMINED THAT THEY INSTALLED CORRECTLY. I WAS TOLD THAT FORD NOW SAYS THAT CERTAIN ELECTRONIC DEVICES LIKE CELL PHONES AND GPS'S MAY INTERFERE WITH THE SYSTEM. MY TRUCK HAS HAD THE PROBLEM WITH NO GPS OR CELL IN THE CAB. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON FORD'S TPMS SYSTEM I FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE FORD STARTED USING IT. ON ALL MODELS WHETHER CAR OR TRUCK PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME "TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR FAULT" ERROR SHOW UP. I FEEL FORD SHOULD RECALL THERE ALL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THIS SYSTEM AND HAVE THEM REPLACED WITH A SYSTEM THAT IS RELIABLE. THE MANUAL SAYS THAT WHILE THE SYSTEM IS IN ERROR MODE THAT THE SYSTEM MAY OR MAY NOT WORK. I THINK THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE WHILE I DO NOT RELY SOLELY ON THE SYSTEM TO MONITOR TIRE PRESSURE I'M SURE THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO DO AND OTHERS WHO COULD HAVE A TIRE GOING DOWN AND MAY NOT KNOW IT UNTIL ITS TO LATE. MY MOTHER IN LAWS 05 EXPLORER HAS THE SAME SYSTEM WITH THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE. FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
2009 FORD F-150 WITH AN AUTOMATIC SIX SPEED TRANSMISSION ROLLS BACKWARDS WHEN STOPPED ON A GRADE IF THE GEAR SELECTOR IS EITHER IN 2 OR 3. WAS ADVISED BY BOTH MY FORD DEALER AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THIS WAS "NORMAL". I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THAT ROLLED BACKWARDS LIKE THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL. SINCE FORD RECOMMENDS DRIVING IN "3 " WHEN ON GRADE, THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR ROLLING BACKWARDS AN CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AFTER STOPPING. I HAVE AN EMAIL FROM FORD'S CUSTOMER SERVICE STATING THAT THIS IS "NORMAL". IF FORD IS NOT GOING TO FIX THIS ISSUE, THEY SHOULD AT LEAST PROMINENTLY NOTE THE PROBLEM IN THEIR OWNERS MANUAL. I WAS NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, BUT WAS SHOCKED WHEN THIS FIRST HAPPENED. I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IF THIS WAS A KNOW PROBLEM. *TR
The contact owns a 2009 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the engine warning light was intermittently illuminated. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed speeds and making sharp turns, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road and depressed the brake pedal until the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while making sharp turns and while coming to a stop at traffic lights. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
TRANSMISSION SLIPS, CHATTERS, SURGES, AND HAS MOVED TRUCK AHEAD A FEW FEET (INTO INTERSECTION) STARTS TO SLIP LEAVES YOU SITTING IN TRAFFIC AND WON'T MOVE FOR A FEW SECONDS. IT GOES INTO A NEUTRAL STATE SLAMS INTO GEARS SO HARD IT CAUSES YOU TO LOSE CONTROL IN SLICK CONDITIONS. IT HAS ALSO STUCK IN BETWEEN GEARS CAUSING US TO HAVE TO STOP SHUT THE TRUCK OFF AND RESTART TO GET GOING AGAIN. *TR
WHILE NEGOTIATING A RIGHT TURN ON A BUSY INTERSECTION, I HEARD A COUPLE OF POPPING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. AFTER THAT, I LOST POWER STEERING ON RIGHT TURN AND ALMOST RAN HEAD ON IN AN ONCOMING VEHICLE FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO A CRAWL BECAUSE I HAVE TO HANG ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL TO NEGOTIATE THE TURN. THE OTHER DRIVER HAS TO STOP TO LET ME GET BACK TO MY LANE. EVERYTIME I NEGOTIATE A CURVE ON HWY 160 FROM PAGOSA SPRINGS TO COLORADO SPRINGS, I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 45 MPH TO NEGOTIATE THE CURVE. IT FELT LIKE I'M WORKING AGAINST HYDRAULIC PRESSURE EVERYTIME I STEER TO THE RIGHT. LEFT STEER IS A BIT HARD BUT NOT AS HARD AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER TO THE RIGHT. THE WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE POWER STEERING GEAR BOX WAS DEFECTIVE. THIS INCIDENT OF LOOSING STEERING ON A BUSY CITY STREET COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
DRIVING A 2009 FORD F-150 I WAS JUST PAST THE GRAIN VALLEY EXIT EASTBOUND I-70 HEADING BACK TO COLUMBIA. I WAS IN THE LEFT HAND LANE AND PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO GET PAST A CAR IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS, THE RPMS WENT WAY UP, AS IF IT WERE FLOORED, AND THE TRUCK TRIED TO ACCELERATE. WHILE THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF ME, LUCKILY THERE WASN'T ONE TO MY RIGHT. I STOOD ON THE BRAKES AND SWERVED TO THE RIGHT. STANDING ON THE BRAKES I WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE SPEED BETWEEN 60-70 MPH, I THREW ON THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND PULLED ONTO THE SHOULDER. AFTER MAYBE A HUNDRED YARDS AND THROWING ON THE E-BRAKE AND HITTING THE BRAKES I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY BRING THE SPEED DOWN AT WHICH POINT I TURNED THE TRUCK OFF. AFTER WAITING A WHILE ON THE SHOULDER I TURNED THE TRUCK BACK ON AND EVERYTHING SEEMED NORMAL, I PUT THE TRUCK INTO DRIVE AND BEGAN TO SLOWLY PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GET BACK ON THE HIGHWAY. IT WAS THEN THAT THE RPM'S AGAIN KICKED WAY UP AND THE TRUCK BEGAN TO TRY AND TAKE OFF. LUCKILY I WASN'T GOING VERY FAST AND RODE THE BRAKES AND TURNED THE TRUCK OFF. I THEN CALLED A TOW TRUCK. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK IS UNKNOWN AS IT HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER YET TO GET FIXED. *TR
VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED. WIRES LEADING INTO THE FUEL TANK SHORTED CAUGHT BED ON FIRE, BUT WAS EXTINGUISHED IN TIME TO STOP FURTHER DAMAGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THERE THE BACK LIGHTING OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL COULD NOT BE MANUALLY ADJUSTED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE DIFFICULTY READING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,500.
NO INCIDENT, AN INQUIRY: HEADREST ON FORD 2009 F150 SUPERCAB TRUCK IS ANGLED 54 DEGREES FORWARD RELATIVE TO THE SEAT BACK. DRIVING WITH BACK AGAINST SEAT, HEAD IS PUSHED FORWARD AND DOWN LIMITING HEAD MOBILITY AND VISION. WITH HEAD ON REST AND BACK FORWARD OF THE SEAT, CONCERN IS THAT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT WOULD RESULT IN A SEVERE SNAP OF THE HEAD FORWARD AND DOWN AS BACK IS PUSHED TO THE SEAT - IS THIS A VALID CONCERN? *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN A RAINSTORM A PASSENGER IN THE RIGHT REAR SEAT NOTICED WATER POURING IN FROM THE HEADLINE ONTO HER SHOULDER. FIRST GLANCE WE THOUGHT MAYBE THE WINDOW SEAL WAS LEAKING. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND STARTED EXPLAINING THE SITUATION AND BEFORE I COULD COMPLETE MY SENTENCE THEY REPLIED "...OH YES ITS THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT SEAL, BRING IT IN AND WE'LL REPLACE IT." WOW A KNOWN ISSUE AND I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THE PROBLEM. WHEN REPLACING THE SEAL I HAD REQUESTED THAT THE HEADLINER BE REMOVED AND INSPECTED FOR MOLD AND ANY RUST THAT MAY HAVE FORMED, OR ANY DAMAGE TO ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS. THE SERVICE MANAGER ASSURED ME THAT IT WAS DONE AND NOTHING ELSE WAS WRONG, I SUPPOSE ONLY TIME WILL TELL. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH HE SLIGHTLY TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DRASTICALLY VEER TOWARDS THE DIRECTION IN WHICH HE SLIGHTLY TURNED THE WHEEL. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR; THEREFORE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER 5 TIMES WHERE HE HAD THE FRONT END ALIGNED. SINCE THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR, THE TIRE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE WERE PASSENGER VEHICLE TIRES INSTEAD OF TRUCK TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT PLACED HIS FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED AND ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO COME TO A STOP. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND ALSO OCCURRED WHILE IN DRIVE WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. 2009 FORD F-150, 4.6L SUPER CREW. PULLED INTO DRIVEWAY AND STOPPED TO ALLOW PASSENGERS TO DISEMBARK JUST OUTSIDE OF OPENED GARAGE DOOR. ONCE PASSENGERS ENTERED HOUSE THROUGH DOOR AT FRONT OF GARAGE, I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE AND PRESSED ON ACCELERATOR TO PULL IN. VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD AND ENGINE BEGAN TO REV VERY HIGH. IMMEDIATELY PULLED FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND PRESSED HARD ON BRAKES. VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SURGE FORWARD AND INCREASE RPMS. UNABLE TO STOP, VEHICLE SLAMMED INTO FRONT OF GARAGE WALL. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, ENGINE ONLY STOPPED HIGH REVS AND SLOWLY RETURNED TO IDLE SHORTLY AFTER IMPACT. *TR

AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES, THERE WAS A SUDDEN REDUCTION IN THE SPEED RATE AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED AS NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SIX DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
FROM A MOVING LEFT TURN, THE ENGINE CUT OUT/SHUTOFF. NO SPUTTER, NO WARNING SIGNALS. THIS IS THE ONLY OCCURRENCE AT THIS TIME. DEALERSHIP CONTACTED. *TR
ALL 5 RIMS ON 2009 FORD RANGER SHOW EVIDENCE OF FAILURE/CRACKS. FORD TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF ALL RIMS. VEH CURRENTLY HAS 5965 MILES (SEE REPORT 10307412 AND 10311415)(FS ID 1235) USDA FOREST SERVICE GWJEFF COMPLETED A FLEET WIDE INSPECTION OF ALL FORD VEHICLES WITH STEEL WHEELS. THIS IS THE 5TH INCIDENT OF THIS NATURE. I CURRENTLY HAVE 10 RIMS FROM VARIOUS VEH AFTER BEING REPLACED BY FORD TECHNICIANS. RECOMMEND FORD INITIATE A RECALL ON STEEL WHEELS TO DETERMINE IF THIS IS A FLEET WIDE PROBLEM. *TR
AT AROUND 3500 MILES ON MY 2009 FORD F150 SUPERCREW, I NOTICED A MILDEW SMELL AND CONDENSATION FORMING ON THE INSIDE OF MY WINDOWS. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND IT IS DUE TO LIQUID IN THE CAB SOMEWHERE. I PULLED UP EACH KICKPLATE AND FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE UNDER MY RIGHT REAR CAB KICKPLATE. WATER WAS ACCUMULATING DOWN THERE WITH ALL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED IT WAS DUE TO THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT. IT WAS REPLACED. AT 5000, I NOTICED THE SMELL AGAIN AND KNEW RIGHT WHERE TO LOOK. I DID AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE SAME THIRD BRAKE LIGHT ONLY THEY SAID THIS ONE HAD A STRONGER SEAL. I JUST HIT 6500 MILES AND NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM AND SMELL, AND POPPED THE KICKPLATE AND HAD THE WATER AGAIN. I AM FIXING TO CALL THE DEALER ON MONDAY TO LET THEM KNOW. AFTER LOOKING IN MY CAB I NOTICED A SPOT OF DRIED WATER RESIDUE ON MY HEADLINER. I AM GOING TO POINT THIS OUT TO THEM AND LET THEM KNOW SOMETHING IS NOT SEALING CORRECTLY WHICH COULD VERY WELL COMPROMISE THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WITH ALL THE WIRES DOWN UNDER THE KICKPLATE WHERE THE WATER ACCUMULATES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT ALL OWNS A 2009 FORD F 150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AS SHE APPROACHED A TRAFFIC LIGHT A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO HER AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. SHE ALSO CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER WHICH CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT AND REAR END OF HER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY. THE CONTACT AND THE PASSENGER WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT IS AVAILABLE IF NEEDED. THE WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION FAILURES AT LOW MILES (9,000, THEN 15,000, THEN 17,000). THE FORD DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE TRANSMISSION UNTIL THE 3RD FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FIRST TWO TIMES, THE TRANSMISSION WAS BURNED OUT AND THEY REPLACED THE BAD PARTS. *TR
2009 FORD F-150 PICKUP TRUCK 4.6 L EFI V8 ENGINE ACCELORATOR STICKS WHEN BRAKE APPLIED. HAS DONE THIS 6 TIMES SO FAR (ONCE IN REVERSE) AND THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 1480 MILES. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THE ENGINE IS COLD OR WARM. THE TRUCK CONTINUES TO SURGE AHEAD EVEN AS I APPLY EXTREME BRAKE PRESSURE. I HAVE TAKEN THIS TRUCK INTO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK. I LEFT IT WITH THEM SEVERAL DAYS. THEY SAY THEY CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS THEY CAN REPLICATE IT. THEY RETURNED THE TRUCK TO ME. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN, TWICE, TODAY (6 FEBRUARY 2010) *CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD F-150. WHILE READING THE OWNERS MANUAL, THE CONTACT REALIZED THAT THE VEHICLES ELECTRONIC TRAILER SWAY CONTROL SYSTEM WAS DISABLED. THE SYSTEM WAS ENABLED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON BUT WHEN IT WAS TURNED OFF, THE SYSTEM DISABLED AND COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A CRASH ACCORDING TO THE OWNERS MANUAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. ON SUN JAN 3, 2009 AT 7:20 A.M. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN MY FORD F-150 2009 4X4 PICK UP TRUCK, WHEN THE PEDAL ACCELERATED FROM 55 MPH TO 80 MPH ON ITS OWN. THE PEDAL LEFT MY FOOT AS IF I HAD CRUISE CONTROL. I DON'T I ATTEMPTED TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP I COULD NOT. I DOUBLED DOWN ON THE BRAKES WHILE PUMPING THE GAS PEDAL AND EVENTUALLY THE GAS PEDAL RELEASED. THE DAY WAS CLEAR WEATHER CONDITIONS AND THE TEMP WAS VERY COLD. I WAS DRIVING ON A ONE LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY AND I HAD A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS TERRIFIED!! I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER PRINCE FREDERICK, MD FORD DEALERSHIP AND LEFT IT FOR THE DAY. ON JANUARY 2, 2010, IN AUSTIN, TEXAS, I WAS ACCELERATING IN A 2009 FORD F-150 SUPERCREW TO ENTER A RESTRICTED ACCESS HIGHWAY AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME LODGED ON AN AFTERMARKET WEATHERTECH BRAND FLOOR MAT AT FAIRLY CLOSE TO FULL THROTTLE. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO ONE IN MY LANE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS ABLE TO SWITCH THE VEHICLE OFF, SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND HOLD MY LANE POSITION AS I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO A STOP. I DISLODGED THE ACCELERATOR FROM THE MAT AND THEN REMOVED THE MAT. AT THAT POINT, I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE MY TRIP. I PURCHASED THE MATS DIRECTLY FROM WEATHERTECH ON DEC 27,2008. SHORTLY AFTER I RECEIVED THE MATS, WEATHERTECH THEN SENT ME REPLACEMENT MATS FOR THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER. THERE WAS NO EXPLANATION FOR THE REPLACEMENT MATS. CURIOUS AS TO THE REASON AND CONCERNED THAT I WAS BEING CHARGED AGAIN FOR MATS, MY WIFE CALLED WEATHERTECH'S SERVICE LINE. SHE WAS TOLD THAT WEATHERTECH WAS NOT "SATISFIED WITH THE FIT" OF THE FIRST SET OF MATS THAT WE RECEIVED. THERE WAS CERTAINLY NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS ANY SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE ORIGINAL MATS. I COMPARED THE NEW MATS TO THE ORIGINAL ONES AND COULD SEE NO SUBSTANTIAL DIFFERENCE, SO I DID NOT REPLACE THEM, AND SIMPLY PUT THE NEW MATS IN MY GARAGE, UNUSED. AFTER THE JAN 2, 2010 EVENT, I REALIZED THAT THERE WAS INDEED A CHANGE. A CHANGE THAT I NOW KNOW TO BE VERY SIGNIFICANT. THE REPLACEMENT MAT HAS A ?CUT OUT? FOR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO PREVENT THE LOWER END OF THE PEDAL FROM HANGING UP ON THE MAT. OBVIOUSLY, I HAVE NOW SWITCHED OUT THE OLD MAT FOR THE NEW ONE. I CERTAINLY APPLAUD THE REDESIGN. MY CONCERN IS THAT I RECEIVED NO WARNING OR INDICATION FROM WEATHERTECH THAT REPLACING THE DRIVER?S MAT WAS AN URGENT SAFETY MATTER THAT COULD RESULT IN DEATH OR INJURY IF NOT PERFORMED PROMPTLY. WE DROVE A RENTAL 2009 FORD F 150 FROM ENTERPRISE RENTAL IN BOISE, ID (12-28-09 TO 12-31-09)FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. ON THE 4TH DAY, WE HAD THE ACCELERATOR STICK SEVERAL TIMES. IT WOULD NOT STOP AT INTERSECTIONS, AND WE THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ICY ROADS (EVEN THOUGH THE ROADS ONLY LOOKED WET!) WHILE DRIVING OUR NEW 2009 F150 TRUCK WITH ONLY 3,200 MILES ON IT, I STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. THE TRUCK BEGAN TO IDLE VERY FAST AND WAS LURCHING FORWARD, WHEN I TOOK FOOT OFF BRAKE THE TRUCK ACCELERATED VERY FAST TO 80 - 90 MPH. I CONTINUED DOWN THE FREEWAY FOR APPROX. 3 MILES WHEN I DECIDED I HAD TO EXIT FREEWAY BECAUSE I WAS GAINING SPEED. I PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AGAIN TO EXIT ON A OFF RAMP DOING ABOUT 40 MPH. THE BRAKES WERE NOT DOING ANYTHING TO SLOW TRUCK DOWN AT THIS POINT. I WAS HEADED FOR A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION AND DID NOT WANT TO BROADSIDE ANOTHER VEHICLE SO I THEN DECIDED TO CRASH INTO A ROW OF DUMPSTERS AT THE END OF A STRIP MALL. AS SOON AS I ENTERED THE MALL PARKING LOT I THROUGH IT INTO PARK WHICH LOCKED THE STEERING AND I STOPPED JUST FEW FEET IN FRONT OF DUMPSTERS. WE HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO NEARBY FORD DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. THEY WANT US TO PICK UP TRUCK AND WE REFUSE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK HOME. *TR
THE DESIGN OF THE SHOULDER BELT IN THE REAR OUTBOARD SEATS ON THE 2009 FORD F150 SUPERCREW IS FLAWED. MY WIFE IS 5' 1" TALL AND THE SHOULDER BELT CUTS ACROSS HER NECK AT A POSITION THAT IF WE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT IT WOULD DEFINITELY INJURE HER NECK. THE BELT IS ANCHORED TOO HIGH ON THE SIDE PILLAR OF THE TRUCK TO ALLOW ANYONE LESS THAN ABOUT 5'4 TO SIT COMFORTABLY WITH IT ON. I HAVE DIGITAL PHOTOS OF MY WIFE SITTING THE REAR SEAT WITH THE SHOULDER BELT AS IT FITS ON HER. IF YOU WISH I WILL SEND THEM ON AS I SEE NO WAY TO ATTACH THE PHOTOS TO THIS FORM. WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO HIGHWAY, THE THROTTLE STUCK AND KEPT ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE EVEN AFTER MY FOOT WAS REMOVED FROM GAS PEDAL. SINCE THE DAY I PURCHASED THE TRUCK, TYPICALLY AFTER BEING ON HIGHWAY FOR MORE THAN 100 MILES, WHEN I ACCELERATE IT WILL HESITATE THEN SLAM INTO GEAR. THERE IS A VERY LOUD BANG THAT ACCOMPANIES IT ALONG WITH A VIOLENT SLAM TO THE ENTIRE TRUCK. FREQUENTLY HAPPENS WHEN ASCENDING HILLS.
