NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2011 Ford F-150. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH, the transmission suddenly downshifted to 1st gear causing an abrupt reduction in the speed of the vehicle. During the failure, the service wrench light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the transmission fluid and filter, but the failure reoccurred. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 126,000.
Driving down residential street about 100 yards from my driveway and power steering completely failed. Dashboard message says steering assist fault. Luckily school hadn't let out yet so there weren't any kids running around. I was able to get the truck in my drive safely. I am having it towed to certified repair garage. Safety first. I've learned that this is a fairly common issue and that it can happen at highway speeds. Not cool Ford. Do better.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F150. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated. The contact stated that the transmission failed to shift as needed. An unknown warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the instrument panel became inoperable. The contact pulled over, turned off and restarted the vehicle, the vehicle started operating as designed. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer and the contact was informed that the Leadframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 113,000.
Vehicle abruptly downshifted to lower gear during a busy street almost causing an accident....dash miss indicating gears and almos hitting a person going reverse when I suppose togo forward...no reverse lights needing help to park when dark
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that he was able to shift the vehicle into gear without the brake pedal being depressed. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle would jerk while shifting from first to second gear. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle also downshifted independently. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The dealer informed the contact of an unknown recall on the transmission was completed by the previous owner of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.
On 10/1/22whike driving my 2011 Ford F-150 eco boost with a130 k miles the service advancetrac warning came on along with turn signals not working and the electronic power assist failure warning came on and stayed on .This is a well documented issue with 2011-2014 f150s especially 2011 model because this is the first year cord changed to Electronic power steering, the issue almost caused me to wreck while taking the on ramp curve to INTERSTATE 10 in Port Arthur Tx .The hundreds of thousands to millions of complaints on this safety issue and the lack of ford not addressing it on the first year this electronic power steering was offered needs to be taken care of by Ford .This is extremely dangerous. It makes no sense for them to have a TSB ON THis issue on models 4 years after they started offereing EPAS on the same body style and not on the first year it was offered.Plese address this with Ford motor company before someone is killed due to this safety issue
As I drive the vehicle at highway speeds it continues to downshift into very low gears causing back wheels to slide. I took it into ford for this safety recall to address this issue and the issue still exists. I took it back to the ford dealership and they said that the recall was preformed so they won’t take any further action to resolve the issue
Ford has a "safety compliance" which has an expiration date of 10 years or 150,000 whichever was first. How is that even allowed? A major issue with the transmission range sensor which doesn't show a driver what gear there in...the lights all disappear so driver doesn't know if there in P, R, D, N, etc...its extremely dangerous! It also forces my truck to go into limp mode which is very dangerous especially when driving down a highway at 55. The truck was "reprogrammed" a few years back to stop the sudden downshift issue from occurring but it didn't eliminate that problem. Do you know how scary it is to be driving down the highway at 55-60 WITH YOUR TODDLER IN THE BACK...and then your truck suddenly on its own shifts down to 1st gear and there's nothing driver csn do but hope they don't hit or get hit by another vehicle?? These are just a few major issues I've had with the truck since buying it 5 years ago. I've barely drove rhe thing since the sudden downshift occurred and could have killed my son and I. The back window quit working. The transmission seems to have alot of issues and I was told because I am past 10 years..yet still under the 150,000 miles id have to pay full price for the backordered part through Ford only which was quoted at $470.00 and that doesn't include any labor. Ford is letting people down majorly. I wish I never bought the truck because it was so exciting to finally have a nice vehicle only to be let down in numerous areas. I drive my 1989 suburban more than my truck due to safety issues and because I am not going to spend thousands on it for an issue that they know has been a major problem for so many customers but yet it wasnt ever an official recall. Total BS!! I can't even believe they can get away with such issues. It's appalling and I'm beyond disappointed with my basically useless truck.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the transmission downshifted into first gear independently and the vehicle stalled. The service wrench light was illuminated. The contact also stated that various sensors and the instrument panel became inoperable as the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that she pulled over and turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the sensors became operable. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the contact was made aware that the powertrain control module needed to be replaced; however, the parts were on back order. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting parts for the repair. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V075000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Lost power steering while driving. Power assist failure flash on dash and then power steering went out and caused me to crash. Just like all the recalls for the same type of vehicle same year
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on multiple occasions while driving at 80 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted and the RPM increased and the speedometer became inoperable. The service vehicle soon and the check engine warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that he placed the shifter in park(P) and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and the mechanic retrieved code: 16-0008, indicating that the lead frame failed and needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was out of the warranty mileage range and directed to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.
My vehicle is experiencing the same issues that were identified under recall 16V-248 with the exact same year, make and model vehicle. Several times, while driving at high speeds, the vehicle will display a wrench logo (MIL) and the vehicle will either downshift to 1st gear or completely lose all power to the pedal. After turning the ignition off and back on, for a period of time the vehicle will only move in 1st gear, will not downshift and the speedometer will not move. The check engine light will illuminate for a period of a few days and will without reason turn back off until the downshifting happens again.
My truck experienced some drive train issue. While driving for about 20 minutes (16 miles) on a major highway the speedometer and tachometer dropped to zero and the center display numbers (time traveled, miles traveled, mph, and total truck mileage indicator) disappeared and then became dashes. I was traveling about 45mph while exiting when the truck suddenly came to an abrupt stop and the brakes locked up and I was almost rearended. I was able to get to the side of the road and turned the truck off. The man behind me was not happy.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacture was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.
Well known 6R80 Transmission Molded Lead Frame defective, causing unexpected and dangerous downshift/loss of power, instrument gauges malfunction and both wrench light and engine light come on. Ford somehow avoided recall to save millions, instead issuing Customer Satisfaction Program 19N01, however replacement part is in short supply and dealerships weren't taking appointments then due to Covid pandemic. Following up recently with Ford dealer since symptoms have worsened, apparently program is now expired and they won't fix. We were nearly rear-ended twice attempting to merge onto freeway, so took it to a reputable local former Ford tech, but he can't obtain the part, which is back ordered everywhere, yet apparently Ford has. Putting everyone on notice and hoping it doesn't take a serious accident/avoidable lawsuit for Ford to do the right thing. Pls advise accordingly. Thank You. Desperate in NV...
Known problem by ford motor company Repaired nothing in warranty period and now an issue with no parts available for repairs. Truck will not go into reverse until creep mode engages 20 to 30 seconds later. Unsafe to drive this vehicle should I have to back up in an emergency. I’ve never was notified of a recall How does a known problem just expire with no action. Very suspicious.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was shifted into reverse, the vehicle would not respond. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be repaired. The contact called the dealer who confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V190000 (Power Train, Exterior Lighting). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 139,465.
Bought a used truck. That needed timing chain and cam phasers a week after I bought it from a Chevy dealer. They sent me to Ford dealer it cost $2800.00 a week later it did the same thing. I was out of town and could not get back in the month. So when I got back they scanned again and charged me again. Then told me it needs a new engine. So I contacted Ford customer service and they said nothing they can do. I owe $10,000.00 and they want $11,000.00 for an engine. I have had the truck for a year but it all started in first week of buying truck.
The vehicle was being driven with the cruise control set. Upon approaching an intersection on a four lane divided roadway I tapped the brakes to deactivate the cruise control. When pressure was applied to the brake pedal the cruise control did not disengage but the vehicle accelerated instead. I released pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle continued at the cruise control set speed. I again applied pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle again accelerated. To avoid striking stopped traffic I moved into the right turn lane with the vehicle continuing to accelerate as I attempted to brake the vehicle. Upon entering the intersection my vehicle struck another pickup truck broadside. I believe speed at the point of impact was 60 plus miles per hour. My vehicle then continued on and struck two utility poles. Both vehicles were damaged beyond repair. There appears to be a problem with the speed control system as it would not disengage but caused the vehicle to accelerate. Googling the same problem with other Ford F-150's I found several reports of the exact problem. I ordered the vehicle new and it was maintained by the Ford dealership. There were no known problems. Mileage is 31,900. At this time the vehicle has not been inspected for a cause but is available for inspection. The vehicle is in the towing company lot. This accident could have very easily resulted in fatalities. This accident should have never happened!!!
I was driving with the cruise control engaged set at 60 mph. Approached an intersection with traffic light with traffic stopped in both westbound lanes. Tapped the brake to deactivate the cruise control. The cruise control did not turn off but instead tapping the brake caused the truck to accelerate. Released the brake pressure and reapplied brake pressure. This action again caused the truck to accelerate. To avoid hitting stopped traffic I moved to the right hand turn lane which was free of traffic. The truck continued to accelerate as I applied brake pressure. As my truck entered the intersection a collision occurred with a northbound vehicle. The collision severely damaged my vehicle and the struck vehicle with injuries to myself and the other driver. Crash speed had to be over 60 mph. This was all captured by a traffic camera. My F-150 had 31,900 on the odometer. It has been dealership maintained since new and has no known defects other than this incident. No lights, no warnings. The truck has not been Inspected since the incident. The truck has heavy damage. This incident could have easily caused the deaths of myself and the other driver. Searches online have turned up the same complaints from other F-150 owners. I have photos on my email but can not get them loaded to this form. You need to see them!
EXHAUST MANIFOLDS LEAK AND BROKEN STUDS
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced a loss of motive power. Additionally, the turn signal failed to deactivate after turning and the instrument panel displayed a blank image. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
Had the recall 19S07 service preformed 11/2020. Truck continues to do the exact same downshifts into first gear. Shift lights on dash go erratic switching the wrench lights up on the dash. Goes away and jerks into gear and takes off. Have not been able o drive because of how frequently it’s happening now. Last time this happen a man literally came back around to tell me off because he barely missed t-boning me trying to turn into Safeway.
I was driving 65MPH. The Change Oil Soon Message come on. I pressed Reset to clear the message. Within seconds the truck jerked twice and when I looked at the dash I was in 1st gear doing over 5500 RPM. The speedometer showed I was not moving but no other indications of error on the dash. No Wrench showing this time. I pulled over and turned the truck off. Restarted the engine and everything was just fine the whole way home from there. I drove the truck to the dealership (Lawton, OK) to check the truck for me on Thursday but they seemed to think if the check engine light was not on there was no urgency. They know it is an F150 from 2011. They want me to return on the 16th for an appointment.
The truck has abruptly shifted into first gear multiple times while driving at highway speeds or speeds far above what first gear should be allowed, failed to shift out of first gear multiple times at stop lights, and has failed to accelerate into first gear from park also throwing a P0731 code and warning indicator light.
Driving down the road at about 45mph. I was slowing down for a stop sign. The truck just accelerated with my foot on the brake. I had to press the brake harder and overcome the acceleration.
I was driving my truck to lakemead nv on the highway going about 50-55 mph when all of sudden my truck dropped from 6th gear to 5th gear so i pulled over and it went from 5th to 3rd gear and it would not change from there i got a check engine light with code p0721 well long story short i called ford with the code and found out it was a “csp” customer satisfaction program but my truck does not qualify because of miles and year apparently 150,000 miles or 10years witch ever comes first but to me i feel like its a safety issue and should fix it no matter what thank god there wasn’t that much traffic otherwise i don’t know what would of happened.
The brake booster vacuum pump located behind driver headlight keeps Giving out almost crashed 3 times . It was recalled in Canada so what is the difference here , I have seen many forums with this issue and ford doesn't do anything this item is defective from the company
11 May 2022: Turned right into four lane traffic and accelerated. Truck refused to shift out of first gear. I had to make the first turn I could to get out of traffic. Turned truck off and re-started engine. Problem was resolved. Wednesday 18 May: Driving west on Hwy 7 at about 65 MPH. Truck lurched slightly and all speed/distance indicators on dash went blank. A single wrench was displayed. Speedometer dropped to Zero MPH.Truck seemed to drive just fine so I limped to a gas station a mile away. There I shut the truck off again and restarted the engine. Engine ran fine but no odometer readings still. Being 15 miles from the next town I decided to continue to drive slow. Shifting was normal and truck ran fine just no speedometer. I Drove straight to the first auto parts store (Advanced Auto) who read the fault code for me. It was something like Failed Speed Transmitter. Driving home that evening the truck seemed fine again. Normal start all displays working no wrench showing. I was driving 55 slowed to 45 for a speed zone. Then coasted to a stop for the red light. When the light turned green I drove. Instead of shifting up the truck stayed in first and even when I lifted my foot from the gas pedal the truck continued to accelerate to over 40 MPH. I Had to apply the brake to stop the acceleration. This was on HWY 7 four lanes of traffic. I had to get pulled off the road and re-start the truck again. The truck is now parked. All quotes I have to 'fix' this are beyond my ability to pay. And no-one (Even the Ford Dealer) will warranty any results other than a new sender unit and not any 'un-forseen' issues later.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle downshifted to first gear. The contact stated that the tires locked up and the vehicle was uncontrollable. There were no warning lights illuminated. Additionally, while driving, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V248000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was notified but no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 22,614.
While driving, the transmission will randomly down shift into 1st gear and the speedometer will die. The truck flashes a “wrench” icon. There is no pattern, the issue is intermittent. When the speedometer dies, the transmission will only shift in “manual” mode, but will not shift above 3rd gear. The check engine light illuminates and throws codes P0720 and P0722. This indicates an output speed shaft sensor failure. Ford released a Customer Satisfaction Program 19N01 for this issue and offers full repairs. However the repairs were only valid if the truck was less than 10 years old or less than 150,000. My truck is now 11 years old (the issue first was present in May 2022) but I only have 73,000 miles. Ford is unwilling to help because I am outside the warranty by a few months. This is a definite safety concern because I’ve been driving on the freeway at 75 MPH in 6th gear only for the transmission to downshift to 1st gear, which causes a violent skid and potential rollover and accident. I live in a severe wintery area, and this issue makes the truck undriveable in the snow and ice. I would like for Ford to run a diagnostic scan, and replace the required components based off their previous CSP. Or, consider this a safety recall and allow me to trade my truck in with no penalties.
Transmission skipped gears while driving. Downshifted from 5 to 1 going 70 mph while driving down the interstate. Rear end locked up causing me to almost lose control. Sitting still at a light it will shift itself in to higher gears. Wrench light comes on.
The powertrain (transmission) has failed. The vehicle has had an issue when shifting into reverse since around the time I purchased the pickup. The vehicle is still doing this, and it is shifting strangely. It will shift from 2, to 1, to 4. Now it will shift from 3, to 1, to 5. When downshifting as I come to a stop, it will stay in 4, unless I manually shift to N, and back into D. At this time, it will shift back to 1 at a stop. It looses power at these times. It has presented with the "powertrain malfunction indicator light" (wrench). My safety and that of others was put at risk by shifting erratically, causing the vehicle to slow down, nerfing the ability to speed up. Losing the ability to speed up from a dead stop under normal driving conditions, increasing the likelihood of an accident from oncoming traffic when turning at an intersection, driving through an intersection from a stop, or from traffic behind the vehicle. I have not been able to have it reproduced by a dealer or independent service center. When I took it to a service center, they were unable to pull any codes relating to the issue. I have yet to take it to a dealer service center. The vehicle nor component have been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance or anyone else. The dash light up with a "Powertrain Malfunction Indicator Light," in the shape of a large orange wrench. Once acknowledged, and the "OK" button has been depressed, the indicator goes away and a smaller wrench stays illuminated in the lower right corner of the display. This and similar issues have been occurring with this vehicle since the first two years of ownership. I had no idea where to begin to have the vehicle repaired or inspected for these issues. My ignorance (and that of many more of their customers) seems to be Ford's benefit. Ford did issue a "Customer Satisfaction Program" (16N02) for this issue, but I had no idea about it until my vehicle did not qualify any longer, due to mileage.
Driver's seat was adjusted in order to fit toddler seat in back seat. Air-bag warning light came on on dash. After research on the Internet we saw a lot of owners were having the same problem. Not on this year and model only and various reasons caused the problem. It does seem to be isolated to the wiring under the seat. The light will go off at times and then come back on after a few days. Are there enough vehicles to prompt a recall? This is a safety issue with the Air-bags may not functionally properly. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact was parked in the residence driveway and had moved the shift lever into "drive" and depressed the accelerator pedal to begin to move forward down the driveway. The contact stated that the vehicle was in "reverse" and not in "drive" and the vehicle backed into the garage door at approximately 2 MPH, hitting the door with the trailer hitch. The contact stated that the "PRNDL" illumination on the dashboard was not functioning and he observed that the "check engine" was also illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to a local dealer and it was diagnosed that the "Lead Frame" and the "Transmission Range Selector" needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and determined that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V190000 (Power Train, Exterior Lighting). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Car downshifted at higher rate of speed causing engine to rev and transmission grind. Speedometer went out wheels locked. Felt like I got hit from behind
Power steering failure. On two separate occasions the power steering pulled the steering wheel out of my hands while making a right hand turn. I was lucky that in both occurrences that there was nothing in the other lane or there would have been an accident. This should be a huge safety concern for Ford but I seriously doubt they even care.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle started shaking and the vehicle and failed to shift gears as needed. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the mechanic stated that the molded lead frame needed to be replaced. The dealer also stated that there was a recall for the failure but that the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall and that the read would be an out-of-pocket expense. The failure mileage was 179,300.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission inadvertently downshifted and upshifted, causing the vehicle to abruptly jerk and hesitate. Additionally, on multiple occasions while driving in reverse, the vehicle would not immediately operate when shifting back to the drive. The contact indicated that the transmission shifter had to be shifted several times before the vehicle shifted into drive and operated as needed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission leadframe connector was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 89,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH down busy highway, the vehicle downshifted without warning. The contact stated that he then drove slowly to his residence. The contact stated that after doing research on the failure, he became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V075000 (Power Train) which he linked to the failure; however, the VIN was not included. The contact stated the following day while attempting to drive his vehicle, the transmission failed to shift as needed. The contact stated that the powertrain malfunction indicator warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and shifting into reverse, the vehicle stalled. The contact restarted the vehicle and attempted to shift into reverse again. The transmission range sensor and power train malfunction indicator lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was diagnosed by the contact. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V190000 (Power Train, Exterior Lighting) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,400.
Traveling at 45 mph the transmission abruptly downshifted, rpm jumped up past 5000, and the rear wheels locked and made me lose control of the truck. I recovered and pulled over. Luckily no other vehicle was around us at the time as I was all over the road trying to control the vehicle. Ford has not reached out to me about this issue however I have discovered that this is a known problem in this year of F150 trucks and all my Recalls have been completed.
This was a previous complaint: WHILE SITTING AT A RED LIGHT. I NOTICED MY DIGITAL ELECTRONIC GEAR DISPLAY WAS IN 5TH WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. WHEN I ACCELERATED, ALL OF SUDDEN, THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED AND EVERYTHING ON THE DIGITAL DISPLAY APPEARED AS (---). THE TRUCK COULD BARELY ACCELERATE. I DROVE THE TRUCK TO A SAFE AND LOCATION, WITH THE TRUCK BARELY ACCELERATING. I PARKED AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND PLACED IN DRIVE. THE DIGITAL ELECTRONIC GEAR WAS IN THE 3RD GEAR. MY TRUCK WOULD BARELY ACCELERATE. I WENT TO HAVE A DIAGNOSIS PERFORMED AND THE TROUBLE CODE CAME BACK AS P0720 OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND A SAFETY RISK. I'M TERRIFIED TO DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE BECAUSE MY TRUCK MAY ALL OF SUDDEN DOWNSHIFT TO 1ST AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE A NEWBORN CHILD AND I'M TERRIFIED TO DRIVE AROUND WITH MY NEWBORN. I PURCHASE MY VEHICLE BRAND NEW AND I ONLY HAVE APPROX 83,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AS OF TODAY. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. THERE HAS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL. SOME VEHICLES PRODUCED AT THIS TIME MAY BEEN LEFT OFF THIS RECALL. I FIRMLY BELIEVE MY VEHICLE WAS LEFT OFF THE RECALL LIST. I AM AWARE OF A RECALL SIMILAR TO MY INCIDENT BUT MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED. AS OF 3/24/2022, A FEW YEARS BACK MY TRUCK WAS SUPPOSEDLY INVOLVED IN A RECALL. THE TRUCK WAS TAKING TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE SOFTWARE UPDATED. SINCE THEN THE TRUCK HAS REPEATDLY HAD THE SAME INCIDENTS TO OCCUR SINCE THE SUPPOSEDLY SOFTWARE UPDATE. IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS THE INCIDENTS HAVE BEEN OCCURING FREQUENTLY. ON TODAY (3/24/2022) THE TRUCK SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED TO 1ST GEAR. I HAD TO SWERVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN WHICH I ALMOST FLIPPED MY TRUCK OVER. I ALSO HAD MY 3 YEAR OLD IN THE BACK SEAT AND HE WAS TERRIFIED. I WAS TERRIFIED AS WELL. MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 112780 MILES AND THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS I HAVE BEEN LIVING IN FEAR WHEN DRIVING MY TRUCK.
While driving the transmission down shifted the maintenance light came off and I selected okay. At that point the display went to dashes and the vehicle was in limp mode. Was able to park the vehicle safely. Turned the truck off and let sit, started truck 30 minutes later and did a slow drive around the area and the issue did not happen again. Bought this vehicle used has 97000ish miles on it. Getting it looked at ASAP.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150 The contact stated while stopped at a stop sign, the contact took his foot off the brake pedal and the vehicle started to accelerate. The vehicle was turned off and restarted and the contact was able to safely drive the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,415.
The drivetrain shifted down to 1st gear while truck was moving at normal city street speeds. I fear the safety of this drivetrain shifting down while traveling at interstate speeds. Would most likely cause loss of control of vehicle. This problem happens at random times and we haven’t been able to duplicate it. Once the vehicle is stopped, turned off and back on, it clears the issue. No one has inspected the vehicle at this time and the Ford dealership said they could fix it for $1000. There were no warnings or other symptoms before this failure. This began about March 2022 and has happened 3 times. We had the transmission flushed because the mechanic said that could be the problem. This is still occurring.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact did not notice any warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over safely and stopped and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled again however, she was able to drive the vehicle to her residence. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F150. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle decelerated and started jerking. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the vehicle was experiencing the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V075000 (Power Train) and needed to be taken to an authorized Ford dealer. The manufacturer was contacted notified of the failure. The manufacturer confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
