WHILE DRIVING ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN WITH MY 11 YEAR OLD SON, I WENT TO PASS A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE IN MY 2012 F150 ECOBOOST AND WHEN I ACCELERATED QUICKLY THE ENGINE JUST LOST ALL POWER AND TO AVOID A HEAD ON COLLISION I HAD TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES AND QUICKLY RETURN BEHIND THE SLOW MOVING CAR. QUITE FRIGHTENED, I DIDN'T ACCELERATE THE REST OF THE TRIP NORTH. WHILE RETURNING LABOR DAY, DAY, AND ON A FOUR LANE EXPRESSWAY I AGAIN TESTED THE ACCELERATION TO HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH AND THEN SHORTLY AFTER STAYED ON. BEING 400 MILES AWAY FROM HOME, I DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY VERY CAREFULLY. AFTER GETTING HOME AND BEFORE CALLING THE DEALER SERVICE TO SCHEDULE A SERVICE VISIT, I DID SOME SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET TO FIND THIS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH F150 ECOBOOST ENGINES. DOING SOME MORE SEARCHING I FOUND THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE "NHTSA CLOSES FORD-150 ECOBOOST ACCELERATION PROBE" BY [XXX] ON APRIL 14TH 2014, DETROIT NEWS. I WAS APPALLED THAT YOU WOULD CLOSE AN INVESTIGATION WHEN THE REASON TO ACCELERATE, COULD BE TO PASS A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE, AND TO LOSE POWER DURING THIS MOVE COULD BE DEADLY! SINCE I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK, I HAVE MADE COUNTLESS PASSES ON SLOW MOVING VEHICLES ON TWO LANE HIGHWAYS AND FELT VERY SAFE TO COMPLETE THAT LEGAL MOVE UNTIL SATURDAY, WHEN, IF I DIDN'T TAKE A DRASTIC MEASURE TO BRAKE AND TURN BACK INTO MY LANE, MORE THAN LIKELY I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TODAY TO WRITE THIS LETTER TO YOU AND MORE IMPORTANT, MY SON MAY HAVE NOT BEEN HERE EITHER. I QUESTION WHY YOU MADE THE DETERMINATION TO FIRST, CLOSE THE PROBE, AND SECOND, NOT DEMAND THAT FORD TAKE THE NECESSARY STEPS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, THAT IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE. I WOULD APPRECIATE A RESPONSE AND HOPE NOT TO HAVE TO TAKE FURTHER ACTION FOR YOU TO RESOLVE THIS OVERSIGHT. MY WIFE AND DUAGHTER WERE DRIVING DOWN I-75 WHEN SHE HEARD A COUPLE OF CHIMES FOLLOWED BY A MESSAGE TO SAFELY SHUT DOWN. THE TRUCK LOST ALL POWER AT THAT POINT AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF BY ITSELF. SHE WJOSHUAAS LUCKY SHE WAS ALREADY IN THE RIGHT LANE AND WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE INTERSTATE PRIOR TO ANYTHING TOO BAD HAPPENING. I HAD ALREADY DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND FORD HAS HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE 4 EGT EXSENSORS SHUTTING THE VEHICLE DOWN TO PROTECT ENGINE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF YOU CONSIDER I COULD HAVE BEEN TOWING 17,000LB TRAILER BEHIND ME WHEN THIS COULD HAPPEN. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THE BAD SENSORS QUICKLY BEFORE SOMETHING WORSE HAPPENS. MY TRUCK HAS HAD NO MODIFICATIONS NOR CHIPS IN IT, SENSORS GO BAD AND KILLS THE ENGINE. ONLY 34,000 MILES ON IT.
NUMEROUS PROBLEMS SOME OR ALL MAY BE RELATED TO A MISTAKE AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. THERE ARE NUMEROUS PHYSICAL PROBLEMS BUT THE TRUCK IS TOTALLY NON-DRIVABLE AS IT GENERATES A HORRIFIC SMELL INTO THE TRUCK THAT QUICKLY MAKES PEOPLE SICK, NAUSEATED, HEADACHES, BURNING EYES, NOSE, THROAT) . A CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED AND THREE DEALERSHIPS HAVE AGREED THE SMELL IS AT, NEAR, OR JUST ABOVE THE REPLACED CONVERTER. THEY AGREE THE SMELL IS THERE (IT WILL SET OFF A CARBON MONOXIDE TESTER INSIDE THE CAB) BUT NO NE WANTS TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO GO TEST DRIVE THE UNIT. THE FIRST DEALERSHIP THAT CREATED NUMEROUS PHYSICAL PROBLEMS AND LED TO THE CRASH (TRUCK LOCKED UP AND WENT AIRBORNE TWICE HITTING VERY HARD ON THE CONCRETE) HAD A COMPANY CLEAN AND SANITIZE THE AIRLINES WHICH DID NOT HELP. THEY SAID THEY WOULD GET THE EPA TO DETERMINE THE NATURE AND DANGER OF THE SMELL BUT LATER WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST TOO MUCH FOR THEM TO GET THE EPA TO DO THE AIR QUALITY TEST. TOO MUCH???? WHEN AT LEAST 6 PEOPLE HAVE GOTTEN SICK FROM THE TRUCK. FORD MOTOR AGREED TO HAVE A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP WORK ON THE TRUCK WITH A FORD ENGINEER BUT WHEN I TOOK IT THERE I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT DO IT WITHOUT APPROVAL FIRST FROM FORD. I HAVE CALLED BACK TO FORD MOTOR THREE TIMES AND WAS PROMISED THIS WOULD BE RESOLVED THREE DAYS AGO, TWO DAYS AGO AND AGAIN TODAY I ONLY GOT AN ANSWERING MACHINE. I WAS PROMISED A CALL BACK ON WEDNESDAY WHICH NEVER HAPPENED. I TOLD A FORD REPRESENTATIVE I WAS PARKING THE TRUCK OR TRADING IT ON MY DOCTORS AND FAMILY'S REQUEST. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE COULD BE LEGAL IMPLICATIONS IF I TRADE IT. WHY? THEY ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. FOR WHATEVER REASON, MALFUNCTION OR RELATED TO THE DEALERSHIPS MISTAKES, THIS TRUCK IS UNSAFE FOR ANYONE. *TR
FEEL A CLUNKING FEELING IN STEERING WHEEL WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT AT ALL SPEEDS, WHEN GO OVER ANY LITTLE BUMP IN ROAD. DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A BIG BUMP. THE CLUNKING FEELING IS ON ANY TYPE OF ROAD. *TR
DRIVING HOME FROM VACATION WE HAD STOPPED AND WERE GETTING BACK ONTO HIGHWAY , IT HAD BEEN RAINING ALL THE WAY AND WHEN WERE MERGING BACK ONTO HIGHWAY I ACCELERATED QUICKLY THE TRUCK STARTED SHAKING LOST POWER I LIFTED OFF ACCELERATOR UNTIL THE SHAKING HAD QUIT AND THEN EASED BACK IN AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. MY VEHICLE WHEN GOING AROUND NA TURN WOULD WANT TO STRAIGHTEN OUT IN THE TURN. LATER THAT DAY I CAME INTO A SMALL TOWN GOT THRU THE RED LIGHT AT THAT TIME MY POWER STEERING NEEDS MAINTENANCE LIGHT CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER THAT I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL MY THE STEERING OF MY TRUCK THERE WAS NO STEERING I HAD A GENTLEMAN HELP ME GET THE TRUCK OFF THE ROAD AS FAR AS HE COULD YOU JUST COULD NOT STEER AS IT TURNS OUT MY RACK AND PINION STEERING IS NO GOOD THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS ITEM BUT IF IT HAPPENS TO SOMEONE GOING INTO A CORNER THEY WILL HAVE A BAD ACCIDENT BECAUSE YOU JUST CANNOT STEER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER BRAKING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THERE WAS A SUDDEN INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS AS THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,148. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE TRAVELING AT 55MPH, UP A SLIGHT INCLINE ON THE HIGHWAY, I PULLED OUT TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. AS I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR I HAD NO ENGINE POWER AND THE F150, LARIAT, ECO BOOST BEGAN TO SLOW. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND FLASHED. I LET OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR AND THEN PRESSED IT DOWN AGAIN. THIS TIME I HAD POWER. I PULLED BACK INTO THE LANE AND EVERYTHING APPEARED TO BE IN WORKING ORDER. *TR
ON THIS DATE (8-2-14) AT APPROX 0400 HRS(4AM) WHILE DRIVING IN WET RAINY CONDITIONS AND AIR TEMP APPROX 75 I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR A FEW HOURS AND MADE A STOP. UPON GETTING BACK INTO TRUCK AND ATTEMPTING TO MERGE BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY MY TRUCK EQUIPPED WITH 3.5 ECOBOOST LOST ALL POWER AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. DURING THIS TIME THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE WHILE LOSING ACCELERATION. THIS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 4 TIMES IN A TWO WEEK PERIOD AND WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE FORD DEALER THEY SAID NO RECORD IN THE COMPUTER SO THEY COULD NOT DO ANY REPAIRS. THIS HAPPENED ONE YEAR EARLIER (PREVIOUS AUGUST) WHEN ON VACATION AND FORD FOUND IT WAS THE CHARGE AIR COOLER (INTERCOOLER) AND BOLTED ON AN AIR DEFLECTOR WHICH OBVIOUSLY DID NOT WORK. FORD SOLD ME THIS VEHICLE KNOWING THERE WAS ISSUES WITH THIS SYSTEM AND FAILED (DID NOT) TELL ME ABOUT IT UNTIL THE ISSUE OCCURRED AND AT THAT POINT I LEARNED ABOUT IT ON THE INTERNET PRIOR TO FORD EMPLOYEES TELLING ME. THIS PROBLEM WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AT SOME POINT. THE VERY FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED TO ME AUGUST 2013 I WAS MERGING WHILE PULLING A SMALL CARGO TRAILER AND UPON THE VEHICLE LOOSING ALL POWER A SEMI ALMOST REAR ENDED ME WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. POWER SEEMS TO COME BACK AFTER ABOUT LIMPING TRUCK FOR APPROXIMATELY 1/8 TH OF A MILE. FORD KNOWINGLY SOLD A TRUCK WITH FAULTY EQUIPMENT THAT WILL CAUSE INJURIES AND/OR FATALITIES AND DOES NOT APPEAR AS THOUGH THEY CARE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE PASSING, MY VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND STARTS TO SPUTTER. THIS HAS HAPPEN ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, AND ON THE LATEST OCCASION THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON. I HAVE THE 3.6 L ECOBOOST ENGINE IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TURNED THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS, BUT WAS TOLD THEY HAD TO ORDER A COOLER TO INSTALL ON THE TURBO CHARGER. BOTTOM LINE NO PARTS ARE BROKE, BUT IT NOW REQUIRES ADDITIONAL PARTS. I DO NOT SEE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
I PURCHASED A NEW 2012 FORD F150 PLATINUM 4X4 ECOBOOST TRUCK IN JUNE 2012. AROUND 2014, I EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER AND MAJOR SHAKING OR SHUDDERING WHEN I WENT TO PASS A VEHICLE IN THE HIGHWAY. I THOUGHT IT WAS A MISFIRE ISSUE AND CALLED THE FORD DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM. THEY ASKED AT THE TIME IF IT WAS CONSISTENT AND I SAID IT WAS NOT. THEY ADVISED THAT I SHOULD JUST KEEP AN EYE ON THIS AND THAT I HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN IF IT CONTINUED. I HAVE ALSO DONE A GOOD NUMBER OF ALL MAINTENANCE RELATED CHECK UPS AND SERVICES WITH THE FORD DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM. IT HAPPENED A FEW MORE TIMES OVER A 1 YEAR PERIOD. I CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS AS I THOUGHT IT WAS A MISFIRE BUT IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. THE LAST EPISODE NEARLY RESULTED IN A COLLISION. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP NEAR MY HOME AND THEY TESTED IT. COMPUTER READING SAYS IT IS A P04300 - BAD INNER COOLER. FIX IS $1700 PER DEALER (NEW INNER COOLER, NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER, NEW BOOTS, NEW PLUGS AND ADDING A SHIELD) BUT THAT SINCE I AM NOW AT 88K, EMISSION WARRANTY ENDED AT 80K AND I HAVE NO FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM FORD. I ADVISED I WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT AN EMISSIONS WARRANTY AND THAT THIS IS NOT MY DRIVING OR MILEAGE ISSUE AND THAT FORD ACKNOWLEDGES THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CHARGE AIR COOLER AND HAD A REDESIGN. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND IF FORD RECOGNIZES THIS AS THEIR DESIGN FLAW AND IS NOW HAPPENING TO MY FORD VEHICLE, I NEED THEM TO HELP ACCEPT THIS AS A WARRANTABLE ITEM AND ACCEPT THE REPAIR FROM THE DEALERSHIP. PLEASE ASSIST. KINDEST REGARDS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, WHICH LOCATED SEVERAL CODES; HOWEVER, THE CODES DID NOT RELATE TO THE STALLING FAILURE. THE DEALER CHECKED THE ENGINE OIL FOR OIL SLUDGE, BUT THE ENGINE OIL WAS NORMAL AND THE COMPUTER WAS REPROGRAMMED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000.
DURING HARD ACCELERATION AFTER NORMAL DRIVING VEHICLE SPUTTERS/MISFIRES HEAVILY, NO RECALL OR ADJUSTMENT HAS BEEN AVAILABLE FROM FORD. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC AND IS KEEPING ME FROM PULLING ANY TYPE OF PAYLOAD BECAUSE I AM CONCERNED THIS WILL OCCUR. I NOW HAVE 41,000 MILES ON VEHICLE AND IT STILL DOES IT, FORCED TO DRIVE THE TRUCK ONLY UNDER SOFT ACCELERATION. *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V316000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
PURCHASED A NEW 2012 F150 WITH MICHELIN LTX A/T2 TIRES 12000 MILES AND I NOTICED THAT THEY WERE DRY ROT BETWEEN THE TREAD LUGS TOOK BACK TO DEALER HAD THEM REPLACED NOW AROUND 12000 MI. LATER HAVE SAME PROBLEM DRY ROT CRACKING BETWEEN LUGS AND ON SIDEWALL I BELIEVE THIS TIRE HAS A PROBLEM AND MICHELIN NEEDS TO RECALL THEM BEFORE SOME INNOCENT PERSON IS INJURED OR KILLED. HOW MANY TIMES ARE WE GOING TO REPLACE SOMETHING DEFECTIVE WITH SOMETHING DEFECTIVE. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

BACK SLIDING WINDOW DOESN'T WORK, POPPING SOUND FROM THE REAR END WHEN YOU ACCELERATE FROM A STOP.
THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE ECOBOOST 3.5L ENGINE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE ONTO A HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE SPORADICALLY AND UNPREDICTABLY LOSES POWER, SEEMS TO HAVE TROUBLE SHIFTING GEARS AND SHUDDERS SEVERELY. BECAUSE THIS HAS OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY, IT POSES A DEFINITE SAFETY RISK OF BEING STRUCK IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. COMPLETE LOSS OF ACCELERATION OR STALLING WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY COULD RESULT IN A CRASH THAT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
PULLED INTO PARKING LOT AND TRUCK STALLED. COULD NOT STEER. COULD NOT ACCELERATE. WARNING LIGHT POPPED UP SAID LOW OIL PRESSURE. WAS NOT ON A HILL. RAN VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT THROUGH FORD SYNC SERVICE AND EVERYTHING CAME BACK OK. WILL CALL DEALERSHIP NEXT. HAD MY DAUGHTER WITH ME AND IT SCARED ME TO DEATH. *TR

DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE DURING WET CONDITIONS MY 2012 FORD F150 ECOBOOST STARTED TO STUMBLE AND LOOSE POWER DRASTICALLY WHILE PULLING A TRAILER. THE TRUCK WOULD ONLY DO 30 MPH AS IT SHOOK AND STUMBLED DOWN THE INTERSTATE. THIS POWER LOSS MADE IT REALLY DANGEROUS TO GET OFF THE ROAD SAFELY WITHOUT OTHER CARS AND TRUCKS BEING AFFECTED. THE ONLY WAY TO RESET THE TRUCK WAS TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART IT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE TO ME DURING WET RAINY CONDITIONS. THIS ISSUE REALLY CONCERNS ME FROM THE SAFETY OF MY WELL BEING AND OTHER FELLOW DRIVERS. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE ACTION IN FIXING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE F150 ECOBOOST TRUCKS. *TR

I PURCHASED THIS 2012 FORD F-150 BRAND NEW!!! I AM A DIE HARD FORD FAN, AND HAVE NEVER BOUGHT SOMETHING NEW, SO AFTER MANY OLD PREOWNED FORD TRUCKS, I BOUGHT A NEW F-150. UNDER BOTH THE 36,000 MILES AND 3 YEAR BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY, IT WOULD RATTLE, SHAKE, AND TICK A LOT, A WHOLE LOT! IT WOULD ALSO MAKE A LOUD RATTLING NOISE DURING A COLD START, OR BETWEEN 1800-2000 RPM. DRIVING TO WORK ON JUNE 9 AT 8:00AM AFTER A HARD RAINSTORM, ON SOUTH MEMORIAL PARKWAY JUST NORTH OF GREEN COVE ROAD, TRAVELING ABOUT 40 TO 45, SLOWLY ACCELERATING, THE REAR END OF THE F150 LOCKED UP, TIRES SQUEALING, BEGAN TO FISHTAIL TO THE RIGHT FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN RELEASED. I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN HIT FROM THE REAR, NO CARS BEHIND ME. TEMPERATURE GAUGES WERE FINE, THE GEAR DISPLAY ON THE DASH BOARD SHOWED ONLY GEARS 1, 2, AND 3. GEARS 4, 5, AND 6 WERE NOT DISPLAYED. I SPED UP AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT CHANGE, I SLOWED DOWN AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT CHANGE, I EASED THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK. THE GEARS 4, 5, 6 WERE REDISPLAYED. THERE WERE NO FLUIDS COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION UNDER THE TRUCK. I EASED BACK INTO DRIVE AND NOTICED A LITTLE BIT OF A SHUDDER AROUND 3RD GEAR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO COMPUTER CODE AND IT WAS LIKELY TO BE A COMPUTER GLITCH AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF LIGHT ILLUMINATES WITH A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. MY WIFE WEIGHS JUST UNDER 100 LBS. AND WHEN SHE SITS IN THE SEAT, WITH HER BUTT ALL THE WAY BACK AND CENTERED IN THE SEAT THE LIGHT ILLUMINATES. WAS TRAVELING UP THE ROADWAY ON 6/1/14 IN OUR 2010 F-150 XLT AND WENT TO MAKE A TURN INTO AN INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS RENDERED USELESS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE LOST COMPLETE POWER, STEERING CAPABILITY, AND BRAKING WAS DIMINISHED TREMENDOUSLY. WE WERE STALLED IN AN INTERSECTION WITH CROSS TRAFFIC APPROACHING AT 55MPH. WITH LITTLE TIME DUE TO ONCOMING VEHICLES, WAS ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY RESTART THE ENGINE AND PROCEED, BEFORE ONCOMING VEHICLES APPROACHED US IN THE INTERSECTION. NOT VERY SAFE BEING THAT MY ENTIRE FAMILY WAS IN THE TRUCK. FORD HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE ISSUE WITH THE VAPOR CANISTER PURGE VALVE AND ITS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE BEING THAT THE VEHICLE STALLS WHEN REDUCING SPEED (SUCH AS TURNING INTO INTERSECTIONS WITH OTHER ONCOMING TRAFFIC COMING AT YOU). THERE IS NO RECALL IN LIEU OF THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION THEY ARE CAUSING. ADDITIONALLY, THIS PROBLEM WITH THE CANISTER CAUSES A TREMENDOUS VACUUM ON THE FUEL TANK, SO MUCH THAT IT DAMAGES INTERNAL COMPONENTS AND HAS RAISED QUESTIONS ABOUT WHETHER IT IS AFFECTING THE STABILITY OF THE ACTUAL TANK ITSELF. WHEN YOU GO TO FUEL THE VEHICLE, THERE IS SO MUCH OF A VACUUM THAT YOU HEAR IT RELEASE THE PRESSURE WHEN INSERTING THE NOZZLE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER FUELING, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. MAY 13, 2014, 0630 HRS. TEMP 55 DEGREES F. WHILE I WAS LEAVING FOR WORK, I PRESSED THE REAR DEFROST BUTTON AS THE MORNING DEWPOINT WAS HIGH AND CONDENSATION WAS HEAVY ON THE GLASS. THE LIGHT ON THE DEFROST BUTTON DID NOT ILLUMINATE, SO I PRESSED A SECOND TIME. THERE WAS A DELAY, BUT THE LIGHT FINALLY CAME ON AS ADVERTISED. I DROVE APPROX 5 MILES TO THE LOCAL FUEL STOP WHEN I NOTICED A SLIGHT BURNING SMELL FROM THE REAR CABIN AREA. I PARKED THE TRUCK, AND LOOKED AROUND BUT FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF SOMETHING BURNING. I STEPPED OUT OF THE TRUCK AND AS I STARTED TO WALK AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE, I HEARD A LOUD "BANG", WHICH SCARED ME. IT SOUNDED AS IF SOMETHING FELL FROM THE SKY AND HIT THE TOP OF THE TRUCK. I LOOKED AROUND, AND THEN OPENED THE RIGHT REAR DOOR. THE BURNING SMELL WAS MORE PROMINENT, AND I THEN NOTICED THAT THE 'BANG" WAS MY RIGHT REAR WINDOW PANE SHATTERING. THE WHOLE RIGHT REAR PANE HAD BECOME EXTREMELY HOT, AND IT SHATTERED. THERE SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THIS HEATING/DEFROST SYSTEM THAT NEEDS RECTIFIED IMMEDIATELY. MY YOUNGEST CHILD COULD HAVE HAD THIS WINDOW BLOW RIGHT INTO HER HAD SHE OR ANYONE ELSE BEEN SITTING IN THE REAR CAB AT THAT TIME. ANOTHER TIME DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, STEPPED ON GAS AND TRUCK LURCHED FORWARD AS IF SOMEONE HIT ME FROM BEHIND AND RPM KEPT ACCELERATING EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOT STEPPING ON THE GAS. HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO DEALER AND THEY CLAIM THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I BELIEVE THESE ARE PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE I'M EXPECTING THE TRUCK TO MOVE SO I CAN GO ALONG WITH FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND IT JUST HANGS ON ME PUTTING ME IN A BAD SITUATION OR IT LAUNCHES FORWARD MAKING ME MOMENTARILY JERK THE WHEEL AND LOSE CONTROL. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT WAS LOSING POWER AND MISSING AT TIMES. THE VEHICLE GAS MILEAGE HAD DECREASED OVER THE LAST FEW TIMES DRIVING. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. NOT FLASHING JUST ILLUMINATED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THE SAME DAY AS THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND VAPOR VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS COULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN IF THESE 2012 ECOBOOST MOTORS ARE LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING.
