WHILE TRAVELING FOR AN EXTENDED TIME IN RAIN, ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE TO PASS AND THE VEHICLE MISFIRED, SHUTTERED AND SHOOK TO THE POINT OF NEARLY LOSING CONTROL, WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND ALMOST STOPPED, CAUSING A NEAR REAR END COLLISION. VEHICLE RECOVERED AND SEEMED TO RUN FINE FOR A WHILE. ABOUT AN HOUR LATER WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE ONTO THE INTERSTATE FROM A REST AREA, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. HAD TO PULL OFF OF THE ROAD TO PREVENT GETTING REAR ENDED AGAIN. AT THIS POINT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. MANUAL SAID TO GET TO A SERVICE AREA TO HAVE THE ENGINE CHECKED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED LATEST CAC AND DEFLECTOR ARE INSTALLED, SO THEY REPROGRAMMED THE PCM WITH THE LATEST UPDATES. LITERATURE GIVEN TO ME AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATES THERE IS NO CURE FOR THIS PROBLEM AT THE PRESENT TIME. *TR
I OBTAINED THIS VEHICLE NOVEMBER 2012 FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY AFTER WINNING AN ARBITRATION CASE I FILED. REASON: THE FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM IN THE TRUCK IT REPLACED, A 2010 FORD, 150, 4X4, WAS TOTALLY INACCURATE AND UNDEPENDABLE. THE ARBITRATOR AGREED THAT IT WAS UNSAFE AND GRANTED US THE OPTION EITHER TO ACCEPT A NEW VEHICLE WITH SIMILAR FEATURES, OR A BUY-BACK. THROUGHOUT MONTHS OF PROCESSING AND SEVERAL VISITS TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER FOR UNSUCCESSFUL REPAIR ATTEMPTS, FORD STEADFASTLY DENIED ANY ISSUES EXISTED--THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL MONITORING AND MEASURING SYSTEM WAS WORKING AS DESIGNED--DESPITE THE FACT THAT A DISINTERESTED THIRD PARTY EXPERT HIRED BY THE BBB TEST DROVE OUR TRUCK AND CONCLUDED IT WAS DEFECTIVE. FURTHERMORE, A GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALED NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WHEREIN SOME OWNERS ACTUALLY RAN OUT OF GAS OWING TO AN INACCURATE FUEL GAUGE READING. HERE IS A RECENT AND TYPICAL EXAMPLE OF THE PROBLEM: A FEW DAYS AGO WHEN I STARTED MY TRUCK, "MILES TO EMPTY" WAS 225. THE FUEL TANK SHOWED BETWEEN ONE-QUARTER AND ONE-HALF FULL. APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES LATER, "MILES TO EMPTY" READ 90, AND THE GAS GAUGE WAS SLIGHTLY ABOVE EMPTY. I DON'T REALLY CARE MUCH ABOUT THE "MILES TO EMPTY" FEATURE BECAUSE I'VE LEARNED NOT TO TRUST IT; HOWEVER, WHEN THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWS A HALF TANK OF GAS REMAINING, THEN A FEW MINUTES LATER DROPS TO NEARLY EMPTY, I BECOME CONCERNED--PARTICULARLY WHEN DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS WHERE WE LIVE, AND IN SNOW CONDITIONS, THUS CREATING A SAFETY ISSUE. TO THIS DAY, FORD DENIES AN ISSUE EXISTS. *TR
RIGHT REAR RIM CRACKED. ALUMINUM WHEELS WITH CHROME COVERS 2012 LARIAT PACKAGE. THE DEALER AND FORD DETERMINED THAT THIS RIM WAS DAMAGED BY IMPACT BUT THE RIM HAS NEVER BEEN IMPACTED TO MY KNOWLEDGE. I SUSPECT THAT IT WAS DROPPED AT THE FACTORY WHEN THEY WERE MOUNTING THE TIRES. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT I DAMAGED THE WHEEL BECAUSE THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE TIRE AND THE RIM IS BEHIND THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE. ALSO THE SURFACE AREA WAS ABOUT 3" LONG WHERE THE IMPACT HAPPENED. THE CRACK WAS FROM THE OUTER BEAD AREA ABOUT 1 1/2" LONG GOING TO THE INNER PORTION OF THE WHEEL. I ALSO HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS THE SAME IDENTICAL WHEELS ON HIS 2012 FORD F-150 TRUCK (TWIN TO MINE) HE HAS SINCE REPLACED HIS WHEELS AS HE CLAIMED AFTER MUCH BALANCING AND ROTATING THESE WHEELS WERE IN HIS WORD "WOBBLY AND VIBRATING". HE AND I HAVE SINCE BOTH REPLACED OUR TRUCKS WHEELS AND COULDN'T BE HAPPIER, OUR TRUCKS ARE SMOOTH AND HANDLE CORRECTLY NOW. I AM COMPLAINING BECAUSE I DON'T WANT ANYONE ELSE TO BE KILLED BY THESE WHEELS. I FEEL THEY ARE INFERIOR AND UNSAFE. MY TIRE MAN SAID THE CRACKED WHEEL WAS CLOSE TO "CATASTROPHIC FAILURE". I WOULD ALSO LIKE FORD TO REPLACE MY WHEELS OR REIMBURSE ME FOR THE VALUE OF THE WHEELS. THEY OFFERED TO SELL ME A REPLACEMENT WHEEL FOR THEIR COST WITH FREE MOUNTING AND BALANCING, THEY SAID IT WAS $600.00 FOR 1 WHEEL. THE FORD DEALER IS SHOWLOW FORD IN SHOW LOW AZ. *TR
WHEN PASSING AND INCREASING SPEED, VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED BUT COULD HAVE CAUSED A HEAD ON OR OTHER ACCIDENT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE I ATTEMPTED TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE. AFTER MOVING OVER AND ACCELERATING - THE TRUCK BUCKLED AND STALLED! I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY AN 18 WHEELER AT 65 MPH! THIS WAS VERY CLOSE TO BEING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT INVOLVING MULTIPLE VEHICLES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND RESOLVE THIS ISSUE AS FORD DOESN'T SEEM TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT IT. THIS VEHICLE HAS A 3.5L ECOBOOST ENGINE WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND IT ALSO SHUDDERS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WITH A HARD CLUNKING SOUND DURING GEAR CHANGES. THANK YOU. *TR
WHEN DRIVING DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC IN ATLANTA, GEORGIA, I MOVED TO THE PASSING LANE TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE. WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR ON MY 2012 FORD F-150 (WITH ECOTECH MOTOR), MY TRUCK DID NOT ACCELERATE AND IT FELT AS IF MY TRUCK HAD LOST ALL POWER. THIS LOST ACCELERATION REQUIRED THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION AND ALMOST RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING NUMEROUS VEHICLES. *TR
TRAVELING HWY 70 E BETWEEN SAINT AUGUSTINE PASS AND AGUIRRE SPRINGS TURNOFF, COMING FROM LAS CRUCES, NM. HAD JUST PULLED BACK INTO TRAFFIC AFTER SWITCHING FROM A 5'9'" DRIVER TO 4'9" DRIVER. THE SEAT MEMORIES WERE PROGRAMMED FOR BOTH DRIVERS, BUT DID NOT WORK. THE SHORT DRIVER ADJUSTED SEATS AND MIRRORS, NOTICED THAT THE ELECTRIC CONTROLS SEEMED TO BE SLUGGISH. AFTER PULLING BACK INTO TRAFFIC, THE SEAT WAS A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO STEERING WHEEL. DRIVER TRIED TO NUDGE SEAT BACK, BUT CONTROL DID NOT WORK. DRIVER TRIED TO ADJUST SEAT TO TILT BACKWARD, BUT THE SEAT MOVED ALL THE WAY BACK. WHEN TRYING TO BRING SEAT BACK UP, THE CONTROL STUCK IN THE TILT FORWARD POSITION AND FOLDED DRIVER IN SEAT TO WHERE DRIVER COULD NO LONGER SEE ABOVE THE DASH (40-45 DEGREE SHARP ANGLE OF SEAT) . PASSENGER NAVIGATED THE VEHICLE ONTO MEDIAN. DRIVER THEN PULLED CONTROL WITH BOTH HANDS, WHEN IT FINALLY CAME UNSTUCK. THE INJURY TO DRIVER WAS A SORE LOWER BACK LASTING SEVERAL DAYS AFTER EXPERIENCING GREAT PRESSURE FROM SEAT BACK ON LUMBAR REGION. (MIGHT HAVE BEEN MORE OR LESS SEVERE WITH LARGER DRIVER) LOCAL FORD DEALER WILL SERVICE VEHICLE ON 20 JUNE 2013. *TR
RAINING OUT, WENT TO PASS A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE. MY TRUCK LOST ALL POWER AND SHUDDERED LIKE IT WAS GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TRUCK COULDN'T DO MORE THAT 40 MPH. HAD TO KEEP A LEVEL HEAD TO AVOID A HEAD ON COLLISION AND GET BACK BEHIND VEHICLE I ATTEMPTED TO PASS. VERY SCARY. THIS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN EVERY TIME YOU GAVE IT HARD THROTTLE THROUGHOUT THE TRIP. THIS IS AN ECOBOOST F150 WITH THE TWIN TURBO V6 ENGINE. *TR
WAS PASSING A LARGE TRUCK TOWING A MOBILE HOME UP A STEEP INCLINE, IT WAS RAINY AND WINDY AND I WAS TRAVELING AT 60 MPH. MID WAY THROUGH THE PASS, MY TRUCK SUDDENLY DROPPED POWER ABOUT 15 MILES DOWN TO 45 MPH, I ALMOST THOUGHT THE ENGINE STALLED, AND THEN, AS I TRIED TO FLOOR THE GAS PEDAL, IT STARTED TO SHUDDER AND I JUST MANAGED TO MAKE THE PASS AS I CAME OVER THE HILL. THE SHUDDERING CONTINUED FOR ABOUT A MINUTE, AND AFTER TRAVELING DOWNHILL AND COASTING A BIT, THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY AND THERE WERE NO MORE INCIDENTS FOR THE REST OF THE 15 MILES I DROVE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, BUT I WILL REPORT THAT AT ONE POINT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FOR ABOUT 8 DAYS 3 MONTHS PRIOR, AND WENT AWAY ON ITS OWN BEFORE I HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO BRING IT TO A GARAGE, I HAD THOUGHT MAYBE I HAD JUST HAD A BAD BATCH OF GAS. *TR
WHEN I GO TO ACCELERATE IT PERIODICALLY HAS HAD AN ISSUE OF SELECTING THE GEAR. SOMETIMES IT HAS HELD ONTO 1ST GEAR WITHOUT CHANGING TO SECOND, MOST RECENTLY IT HAS BEEN SKIPPING FROM 1ST GEAR TO 5TH GEAR. I'VE RECORDED A VIDEO (LINK AT THE BOTTOM) TO BETTER DEMONSTRATE. I DRIVE THE TRUCK IN A HUMID ENVIRONMENT (OAHU) + WASH MY CAR REGULARLY (NOTHING IN THE ENGINE, OTHER THEN SPRAYING THE GRILL) - AS I'VE HEARD OF SIMILAR RELATED ISSUES. I'VE UPLOADED A VIDEO OF IT TO YOUTUBE WHICH WAS RECORDED YESTERDAY AFTER TRYING TO ACCELERATE AT A STOP LIGHT (I HAD TRIED TO TROUBLESHOOT IT 3 DIFFERENT WAYS AFTER PULLING OVER - 1. GOING INTO THE LOW GEARS (1, THEN 2), THEN DRIVE 2. I TRIED MANUALLY TELLING THE VEHICLE WHICH GEAR I WANTED TO BE IN (IT BLINKED TO INDICATE I'M LOCKED OUT) 3. (AS SEEN IN THE VIDEO) I WENT TO PARK, THEN TO DRIVE HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=Y50_CJ82D20. *TR
WHILE TRYING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE DURING WET WEATHER , MY VEHICLE WOULD LOOSE ENGINE POWER AT A CRITICAL MOMENT DURING PASSING. FORD DEALER COULD FIND NO PROBLEM. LOSS OF POWER HAPPENED MORE THAN ONE TIME WHILE PASSING. AFTER ABOUT ONE YEAR OF SERVICE I TRADED VEHICLE OFF....NOT LIKING THE PASSING PERFORMANCE DURING WET WEATHER. THEN FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MANY F150 ECOBOOST ENGINES. I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE DOWN THE ROAD AT AROUND 50 MPH, I STARTED TO PASS THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND MY TRUCK LOST POWER. I COULDN'T COMPLETE THE PASS AND NEARLY WAS HIT HEAD ON BECAUSE I COULDN'T GET BACK INTO THE LANE I CAME FROM. WHEN I HIT THE ACCELERATOR THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND SLOWED TO 40 MPH. AFTER LETTING OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND HITTING IT AGAIN STILL NOTHING 40 WAS AS FAST AS IT WOULD GO. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO A PULL OFF SPOT AND TRIED TAKING OFF AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE PERFORMED AS NORMAL. THERE WERE NO ENGINE LIGHTS OF ANY KIND THAT ILLUMINATED DURING THIS TIME. THIS OCCURED AT APPROXIMATELY 18,000 MILES. IT CURRENTLY HAS 20,768 MILES ON IT AND HAS DONE IT 2 MORE TIMES. BOTH TIMES THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS. I GOOGLED THE ISSUE AND FOUND MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO SEEN WHERE THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A POSSIBLE FIX FROM FORD. I TOOK IT BACK TO FORD AND TOLD THEM MY ISSUE, I JUST PICKED IT UP AND THEY ADVISED ME THEY DID NOTHING TO IT BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO ACT UP, AND THERE WAS NO STORED ENGINE CODES. THE DEALER SAID I BET IT ONLY HAPPENS TO YOU HUH, IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN WE WILL TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT IT. THEY TOTALLY BLEW IT OFF AND WANTED THE TRUCK AND ME OUT OF THERE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IS A HUGE INCONVIENIENCE TO HAVE TO TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALER ALL THE TIME FOR SOMETHING THEY SHOULD HAVE ALREADY FIXED. FOR AS MUCH AS FORD IS CHARGING FOR THESE TRUCKS THEY COULD AT LEAST TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT THEY HAVE CREATED. OF COURSE IT WILL BE HARD FOR THE TECHS TO DUPLICATE WHEN IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY AT VARIOUS MILEAGES.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM A GOLF TOURNAMENT IN THE RAIN. I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO PUT DROPS IN MY EYES. WHEN I STARTED BACK I PULLED OUT AND WHEN I GOT UP TO ABOUT 20 MPH THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING AND STARTED SHAKING VERY BADLY. I LET OFF THE GAS AND PUSHED BACK DOWN AGAIN SAME THING HAPPENED. IT FELT LIKE THE ENGINE WAS LOCKING UP, AFTER ABOUT 20-30 SECONDS (NOW WITH CARS ON MY BUMPER) IT SMOOTHED OUT. NO OTHER ISSUES ON THE REST OF THE TRIP. TOTAL TRIP WAS ABOUT AN HOUR. *TR
TURNED RIGHT AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE, WHEN I GOT UP TO ABOUT 45-50 MPH AND THE ECOBOOST WENT TO KICK IN, TRUCK DRAMATICALLY JERKED FORWARD AND THEN THE WHOLE TRUCK STARTED TO SHUTTER AND SHAKE UNTIL THE VEHICLE SLOWED TO A POINT WHERE THE ECOBOOST TRANSITIONED OFF. HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THIS TIME MY WIFE EXPERIENCED IT TOO AND WE FEEL IT MAY BE A SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD IT HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC OR ON A FREEWAY. WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK AT 50+ MPH WITHOUT HAVING TO SLOW DOWN TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
I AM REPORTING A SECOND INCIDENT OF ENGINE FAILURE WHILE PASSING THAT HAPPENED ON THE SAME DAY. WHILE PASSING A VEHICLE MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE/SHUDDER. I WAS ABLE TO PULL BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND OVER TO THE SHOULDER. IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 1 MINUTE FOR THE VEHICLE TO RECOVER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHILE ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY, I ACCELERATED TO PASS A SEMI TRUCK. AS I WAS ALONG SIDE THE TRUCK, MY VEHICLE DECELERATED AND BEGIN TO SHUDDER(FELT AS IF FRONT TIRES WENT FLAT). I WAS ABLE TO PULL BACK BEHIND THE TRUCK AND OFF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE RECOVERED AND I CONTINUED MY TRIP. IT WAS RAINING AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS EVENT, FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO PULL BACK IN BEHIND THE TRUCK TO AVOID ONCOMING TRAFFIC. *TR
LOSS OF POWER/ENGINE MISFIRES DURING HARD ACCELERATION ON MID AFTERNOON FRIDAY, JUNE 7, 2013 PASSING A CAR AT COUNTRY RD SPEED OR LESS (WAS ALMOST AT A COMPLETE STOP WHILE CAR IN FRONT OF ME TURNED) IN RAIN. ONCE I REACHED DESTINATION TRUCK SAT UNTIL MID DAY SUNDAY, JUNE 9 WHEN CONDITION RECURRED ON HILL CLIMB ACCELERATION IN DRY CONDITIONS. ENGINE MISFIRE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AT THAT TIME. AFTER PULLING OVER AND SHUTTING TRUCK OFF TO CHECK OWNERS MANUAL, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I STARTED TRUCK BACK UP AND HAS REMAINED ON BUT THE ISSUE HASN'T RECURRED. APPT AT FORD DEALER FOR SERVICE ON FRIDAY, JUNE 14 TO CHECK THE ENGINE LIGHT STATUS AND THIS ISSUE. ENGINE IS 3.5L V6 ECOBOOST. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING THE ENGINE SHUDDERED AND THEN SHOOK HARD, POWER WAS LOST. IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS BEFORE IT POWERED UP AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED IN MARCH 2013 AND AGAIN ON JUNE 7. ALSO I HAVE NOTICED IT SHUDDER WHEN COMING TO A STOP. *TR
DRIVING IN THE RAIN. TRIED TO MERGE ON HIGHWAY. TRUCK STARTED MISSING AND BUCKING. I HAD THE TRUCK FLOORED AND IT WAS LOOSING SPEED. I HAD TO PULL OVER. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT DUE TO LOSS OF POWER. *TR
IT IS A NEW TRUCK 2012 WITH ABOUT 650 MILES WHEN PURCHASED. THE FIRST COLD START THE ENGINE RAN ROUGH AND HAD A SLIGHT MISS. TOLD DEALER SAID NOT TO WORRY THEY COULD FIX IT. WENT TO KY ON WAY BACK RAN INTO A DOWN POUR OF RAIN. THE TRUCK AT ABOUT 40MPH STARTED TO SHAKE AND QUIVER LIKE IT WAS GOING TO QUIT .GOT TO THE SIDE OF ROAD TO KEEP FROM GETTING HIT FROM OTHER VEHICLES. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES THEY CANT FIX IT.I HOPE THAT NO ONE GETS HURT FROM THIS ENGINE FAILURE.THE TRUCK NOW HAS 4160 MILES, IT STILL IDLES ROUGH AND HAS MISS. THE DEALER CHECKED IT OUT AND STILL CAN'T FIND THE CAUSE. *TR
I WAS MERGING ON THE ON RAMP TO OBTAIN HIGHWAY SPEED I STEPPED ON THE GAS WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE REALLY BAD. I TRIED TO STEP ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE BUT THERE WAS NO THROTTLE RESPONSE TO THE ENGINE AS THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO LOSE SPEED. EVERY TIME I TRIED TO STEP ON THE GAS THE TRUCK WOULD SHAKE EVEN WORSE. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SO I WOULD NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EXPERIENCE THIS SHUDDER IN THE TRUCK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING HEAVY RAIN AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND STALLED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATE. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE.
