DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY, I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A LOUD POP! I HAD MY 10 MONTH OLD GRANDCHILD IN THE BACK SEAT. I BEGAN TO LOOK AROUND TRYING TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS NOT PASSING AN UNDER PASS NOR WAS THERE ANY DEBRIS ON THE ROAD. I LOOKED UP TO SEE THE MOON ROOF HAD JUST EXPLODED! SHAKING, I PULLED THE VISOR OVER THE GLASS AND PULLED OVER. I LOOKED AT THE TOP OF THE MOON ROOF, IT WAS SMOOTH AND TOOK PICTURES OF IT. ON THE INSIDE IT WAS IN A THOUSAND PIECES, BUT HANGING IN THERE. I TOOK PICTURES OF THAT AS WELL. I THEN TOOK IT TO FORD AND UPON VISUAL INSPECTION, THE SERVICE WRITER AS WELL AS ANOTHER SERVICE TECH ACKNOWLEDGED NO IMPACT WAS VISIBLE TO THE ROOF. FORD HAS DENIED MY CLAIM ON THE MOON ROOF CLAIMING THERE MUST HAVE BEEN AN IMPACT. I AM NOW SITTING ON HOLD WITH FORD CUSTOMER CARE TO DISPUTE THEIR NONSENSE AND LETTING THEM KNOW THAT I HAVE FOUND A FORUM ON EDMOND'S ABOUT EXPLODING MOON ROOFS. I ALSO NOTED THAT ANOTHER FORD CUSTOMER IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH FORD ACKNOWLEDGING THE PROBLEM AND ISSUING THE SAME RESULT AS WAS GIVEN IN MY REPORT, NAMELY, IT MUST HAVE BEEN AN IMPACT! I ALSO TOLD THEM IF ANYTHING HAD HAPPENED TO MY GRANDSON, I WOULD BE IN A LAWYERS OFFICE TODAY! I HAVE JUST GOTTEN OFF THE PHONE WITH FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND SPOKE WITH [XXX] WHO HAS CONTACTED THE DEALER TO APPEAL FORDS DECISION ON THE CLAIM. I AM AT THE POINT OF WAITING TO HEAR THE RESULTS. I TOLD FORD THEY NEED TO INVESTIGATE WHAT THE ISSUE COULD BE AND [XXX] STATED THAT THEY HAVE ALSO FILED WITH THE NHTSA ON MY BEHALF. I AM HOPEFUL AT THIS POINT THAT FORD CAN RESOLVE MY ISSUE, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY THEY NEED INVESTIGATE THE MANUFACTURER AND MAKE SURE THE PRODUCT IS ACCORDING TO U.S SAFETY STANDARDS. MY VEHICLE IS A 2012 FORD F-150 PLATINUM ECO BOOST. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, MY VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 9 MONTHS OLD AND UNDER 25K MILES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO 4 -WHEEL DRIVE INDEPENDENTLY AS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER POWERING OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE IT RESUMED TO NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR ACTUATORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 42,000.
I HAVE A 2012 FORD F-150 WITH THE ECOBOOST ENGINE. WHILE SLOWLY ACCELERATING AT HIGHER SPEEDS (GENERALLY AROUND 50 TO 70 MPH), THE ENGINE MISSES TERRIBLY ON MULTIPLE CYLINDERS AND THE TRUCK JERKS AND LUNGES VIOLENTLY ALL WHILE LOSING POWER AND SPEED. IT HAPPENS FREQUENTLY, BUT MOST OFTEN WHEN SLOWLY ACCELERATING TO MAINTAIN SPEED UP A HILL OR PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE LOSS OF POWER IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY WHILE PASSING OTHER VEHICLES ON A HIGHWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE FRONT END CAME OUT OF ALIGNMENT WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT END NEEDED TO BE ALIGNED AND A RE-LEVELING KIT NEEDED TO BE ADAPTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
IN HEAVY RAIN CONDITIONS AFTER DRIVING FOR 2 HOURS IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST HERE IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, THE TRUCK ECOBOOST TURBO STALLED AND LOST POWER DURING AN ACCELERATION ONTO A FREEWAY ON RAMP. INTERMITTENT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND PARTIAL LIMP MODE OCCURRED. DEALER MISDIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A LOOSE CONNECTION WHEN IN FACT IT WAS THE KNOWN STALL/SHUDDER ISSUE THAT MULTIPLE ECOBOOST MOTORS ON F150S ARE EXPERIENCING IN RAINY DAMP CONDITIONS. SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE IF YOU ARE TRYING TO PASS ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY AND YOU LOSE POWER WHILE TRYING TO PASS.
TRAVELING WITH MY WIFE FROM LITTLE ROCK TO HOUSTON ON A RAINY / HUMID DAY WITH THE TEMPERATURE AT ABOUT 80-85 DEGREES, I ACCELERATED QUICKLY TO PASS ON A 4-LANE HIGHWAY. THE TRUCK BEGAN SHUDDERING VIOLENTLY AND WE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER. AFTER SLOWING DOWN AND PULLING OFF AND RESTARTING THE TRUCK IT SEEMED TO RUN FINE. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES DURING THE TRIP. THE SECOND TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH, BUT ENDED UP GOING OFF. THE THIRD TIME THE LIGHT FLASHED AND STAYED ON. AFTER GETTING BACK TO HOUSTON I TOOK THE TRUCK IN AND THEY "REPROGRAMMED THE CAC" AND INSTALLED A NEW "AIR DAM DEFLECTOR PLATE." I JUST GOT THE VEHICLE BACK SO I DO NOT YET KNOW IF THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM PERMANENTLY, HOWEVER, I HAVE SEARCHED NUMEROUS BLOGS AND WEBSITES AND DISCOVERED THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE WITH THEIR 3.5L ECOBOOST ENGINES. I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT FORD HAS NOT OFFERED ANY KIND OF RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POWER LOSS (AND EXACTLY AT A CRITICAL TIME WHEN POWER IS NEEDED) WERE FRIGHTENING AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. HAD I BEEN PASSING ON A TWO-LANE ROAD INSTEAD OF A 4-LANE HIGHWAY, WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A HEAD-ON COLLISION, A SECOND CAR REAR-ENDING MY VEHICLE, OR A LOSS OF CONTROL DUE TO THE SHUDDERING AND INSTABILITY AT HIGH SPEEDS. I DID CONTACT FORD REGARDING THIS AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL AND THEY JUST RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE. IT IS COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS THAT THEY KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND DON'T 1) RECALL THE VEHICLES THAT MAY EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM AND, 2) LET THE GENERAL PUBLIC KNOW ABOUT THE ISSUE - FOR THOSE PURCHASING A NEW VEHICLE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS ON INTERSTATE 85 IN MAJOR TRAFFIC THE ENGINE UNEXPECTEDLY HAD A SHARP REDUCTIONS IN ENGINE POWER DURING ACCELERATION. THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE IN THE LAST MONTH. *TR
LOSS OF POWER WITH VEHICLE VIBRATION WHEN ACCELERATING TO PASS A VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY. TRUCK HAS THE ECOBOOST ENGINE. AFTER THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I ATTEMPTED ANOTHER AGGRESSIVE ACCELERATION TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHICH IT DID. ONE INSTANCE THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THIS OCCURRED DURING A RAINY DAY. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THIS AGGRESSIVELY SINCE BUYING THE TRUCK. THIS COULD BE A DANGEROUS DEFECT IN THE RIGHT CONDITIONS. I.E. PASSING ON A TWO LANE ROAD. I RESEARCH ONLINE TO DISCOVER THE ONGOING INVESTIGATION. I CALLED THE DEALER TO MAKE APPOINTMENT; THE SERVICE MANAGER TOOK MY VIN BUT STATED NOTHING SHOWED UP IN THE COMPUTER FOR ANY ISSUES WITH MY YEAR MAKE AND MODEL.
STUMBLE/MISFIRE INTERMITTENTLY ON ACCELERATION FROM HIGHWAY CRUISING SPEED DURING SLIGHT ACCELERATION IN WARMER WEATHER. HAVE HAD IT TO LOCAL DEALER 2X FOR TSB REPAIRS, WITH NO LUCK. CALLED ANOTHER LOCAL DEALER TO SEE IF THEY HAVE HAD ANY LUCK FIXING THE PROBLEM AND SERVICE MANAGER SAID THEY HAVE NOT HAD ANY CONSISTENT LUCK IN REPAIRING THE PROBLEM, EITHER...
THIS COMPLAINT PERTAINS TO THE 3.5 LITER ECOBOOST ENGINE. I WAS DRIVING ON I-95 AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED. THERE WERE FOUR LANES OF TRAFFIC AT THIS LOCATION. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AROUND A SLOWER VEHICLE, THE ENGINE SHUTTERED AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE. I HAD TO DRIVE ONTO THE BERM, NEARLY CAUSING A CRASH. THE ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE MY TRIP FROM PENNSYLVANIA TO NORTH CAROLINA. THIS ENGINE SHUTTER OCCURRED THREE MORE TIMES DURING MY RETURN TO PA. THE LAST TIME THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ACTIVATED. THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER ON A BUSY MULTIPLE LANE HIGHWAY IS AN EXTREME HAZARD AND COULD RESULT IN A SERIOUS VEHICLE CRASH. IT IS TIME FOR FORD TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS KNOWN ISSUE. *TR
ON 2 SEPT 2013, IN FLORIDA, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO CROSS A TWO LANE ROAD INTO THE MEDIAN AND MERGE INTO TRAFFIC GOING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO SPUTTER AND HAD LOSS OF POWER THAT BARELY ALLOWED ME TO CROSS BEFORE TRAFFIC ARRIVED. THE ROUGH RUNNING CONTINUED AFTER I ATTEMPTED TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AND CONTINUED FOR ABOUT A 1/4 MILE BEFORE WHERE I WAS ABLE TO EXIT. IT STARTED RUNNING CORRECT SHORTLY AFTER THAT. THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND AROUND MID 80'S, MILEAGE WAS AROUND 9500, SPEED WAS 0-50 MPH. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 27 SEPT 2013, IN MISSOURI, AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PASS TRAFFIC ON I-70. THE VEHICLE AGAIN STARTED TO SPUTTER WITH DRAMATIC LOSS OF POWER THAT DIDN'T ALLOW IT TO MAINTAIN TRAFFIC SPEEDS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND I CONTINUED TO THE NEXT EXIT. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN. THE ENGINE LIGHT BECAME STEADY AND REMAINED ON FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE 900 MILE TRIP. IT IS BEING TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE. THE WEATHER WAS RAINY AND IN THE 60'S. MILEAGE WAS AROUND 11000 AND SPEED WAS AROUND 65-70 MPH. *TR
I HAD READ ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT THOUGHT I WAS ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES THAT DIDN'T HAVE A ISSUE. HOWEVER AT ABOUT 11,500 MILES DRIVING IN A RAINY HUMID DAY ON THE HIGHWAY I GOT IN A SPOT WHERE I HAD A RIG GOING ABOUT 30MPH AND I WAS DOING ABOUT 60MPH HAVING MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO PASS SAFELY BEFORE THE OTHER RIG COMING UP IN THE PASSING LANE I DECIDED TO GO AROUND.. AS SOON AS I PUSHED THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND GOT IN THE PASSING LANE THE TRUCK LOST POWER,,, SHUDDERED BADLY AND I ALMOST COULDN'T GET AROUND THE RIG THAT WAS ONLY DOING 30! AFTER GETTING BY I DECIDED TO TRY TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND AGAIN I WAS SUCCESSFUL BUT NOT WITHOUT THE ANXIETY ON THINKING THE RIG COMING UP WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO ALLOW ME TO GET OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT PUSHING ME OFF. SO FAR THERE HAVE BEEN NO KNOWN ACCIDENTS BUT AGAIN IF THE CONDITIONS ARE RIGHT FOR AN ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN COULD BE AS SIMPLE AS PASSING ON A FOGGY NIGHT AND THE PERSON COMING UP ON YOU AT 70 NEVER SAW THE F150 ECOBOOST SITTING IN THE PASSING LANE DOING 45 TRYING TO GET IT OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD PASSING AT THE TOP OF A HILL WITH NOWHERE TO PULL OFF TO THE RIGHT AS GOING DOWN THE HILL WITH A 70 MPH TRACTOR TRAILER DRIVER DOING HIS BEST TO SHUT DOWN HIS RIG TRYING TO AVOID A JACK KNIFE DUE TO A F150 ECOBOOST DOING 40 MPH WITH NO WHERE TO PULL OFF! SO ANY OF YOU THAT THINK THIS ISN'T A BIG PROBLEM WAITING TO HAPPEN THEN I SUGGEST ONE THING.... MY WIFE AND I WERE TRAVELING ON I81 NORTH BOUND. I ATTEMPTED TO PASS THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND WHEN I ACCELERATED (I PUSHED IT TO THE FLOOR) THE ENGINE DIED. I CALL RISING SUN FORD DEALERSHIP IN MARYLAND WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND WILL HAVE IT THERE THIS WEDNESDAY FOR THEM TO CHECK OUT... THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS AWARE THAT THERE WAS A POTENTIAL ISSUE WITH THIS ENGINE DOING EXACTLY AS I DESCRIBED... WHY DO THEY NOT HAVE A LEGAL OBLIGATION TO WARN ME OF THIS ISSUE WITH THIS ENGINE BEFORE I BOUGHT IT AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OTHER VEHICLES OUT THERE WHERE THE OWNERS ARE CLUELESS OF THIS POTENTIAL ISSUE THAT CAN PUT THEIR LIFE AT RISK??? *TR
FORD F150, 3.5L ECOBOOST ENGINE- WHILE DRIVING IN RAIN, VEHICLE HESITATED AND MISFIRED, WITH AN ASSOCIATED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON SOME OCCASIONS AND NOT ON OTHERS. SEEMED TO HAPPEN AFTER CRUISING AND ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE AND CONTINUED TO SLOW TO 50MPH. HAD TO EASE ON THE THROTTLE TO SLOWLY ACCELERATED AFTER THE CONDITION CLEARED. VEHICLE IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES FOR UPDATES, 3 FOR CHANGES TO THE INTERCOOLER AND THE LAST WAS FOR A CHANGE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. *TR
WHEN RETURNING FROM CULLOWEE, NC, I WAS ON THE ENTRANCE RAMP OF I-40 EAST. AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR TO INCREASE TO HIGHWAY SPEED. THE ENGINE STARTED SPUTTERING AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. THE VEHICLE NEVER GAINED SPEED UNTIL I LET OF THE ACCELERATOR COMPLETELY AND SLOWLY APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN. THE VIOLENT SHAKING OF THE VEHICLE AND THE RESULTING DANGEROUS MERGE INTO TRAFFIC TERRIFIED MY WIFE, CHILD AND GRANDCHILD. *TR
1ST TIME HAPPENED WHEN TRYING TO PASS A BIG TRUCK, PICK UP LOST ENGINE POWER DURING ACCELERATION THAT I BARELY MADE IT, OPPOSITE TRAFFIC COMING, VEHICLE LOST ALL CHANCES TO MADE ON TIME I WAS AFRAID NOT TO PASS ON TIME THIS IS A HAZARD ISSUE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, I HAD TO STOP AND SHUT DOWN VEHICLE BECAUSE I HAD A ENGINE CHECK MASSAGE AT THE MAIN SCREEN OF DASHBOARD WITH THE WRENCH CHARACTER IMAGE, AFTER I RESTART VEHICLE EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. 2ND TIME HAPPEN WHEN MADE TRIP TO TEXAS ON DECEMBER 2013, WHEN TRYING TO ENTER FREEWAY I HAD TO SPEED UP AND SUDDENLY PICK UP AGAIN LOST POWER AND START SHAKING I COULD NO GAIN ANY MORE SPEED OVER 50-55 MPH I ALMOST GOT REAR END IT BY A CAR ON THE BACK THAT WAS ALREADY IN THE HIGH SPEED STREAM. THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE CAME ON, ;LATER STARTED TO DRIVE OK. WHEN I CAME BACK TO HOME TOWN I TOOK VEHICLE TO CHECK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AT AUTOZONE AND RETRIEVE THE P0430 CODE. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER BECAUSE STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND EXPLAIN EVERYTHING. THEY CHECK VEHICLE AND RETRIEVE THE SAME CODE , THEY REPLACED ONLY THE DRIVER SIDE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. I WAS RESEARCHING ON FORUMS AND THEY COMMONLY HAVE TO REPLACE NOT ONLY CAT BUT HAVE TO CHANGE INTERCOOLER, CHANGE PLUGS AND RE-FLASH ECU AND OR PLACE A DEFLECTION PLATE ON CURRENT INTERCOOLER BUT HOME TOWN DEALER ONLY REPLACE CAT, I DON'T THINK THIS WILL FIX ISSUE. PLEASE PUSH FORD TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, FOR EXPERIENCE THIS NEEDS TO BE CLASSIFIED AS A RECALL BECAUSE SAFETY ISSUE IS INVOLVED WHEN YOU LOST POWER WHEN IS NEED IT. THE ACTUAL INTERCOOLER ON PRE 2013 IS NOT GOOD BECAUSE TENDS TO ACCUMULATE CONDENSATION AND THIS IS SUCKED UNDER BOOST CONDITION AND PROBABLY CAUSING MULTIPLE MISFIRES THAT LEADS TO UNEXPECTED POWER LOST AND VEHICLE SHAKING. MY WIFE AND I BOUGHT THIS F150 NEW ON 2012 ECOOBOST ENGINE RE GREAT BUT THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 60 MPH. I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO ABOUT 80% OF TRAVEL. THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED AND THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY HAD AN ALMOST TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. I TOTALLY RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR AND THEN APPLY ABOUT 10% AND THE ENGINE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE ENGINE CONTINUED ON AS NORMAL - GIVEN TRAFFIC CONDITIONS I DID NOT ATTEMPT A SECOND HARD ACCELERATOR APPLICATION. IT WAS RAINING AND HAD BEEN RAINING ABOUT AN HOUR WHEN THIS OCCURRED. I CALL FORD AND WAS GIVEN A TSB REPAIR CODE. IT IS FORD TSB 13-8-1 - AN EARLIER VERSION OF THE THIS TSB WAS 12-10-19 AND 12-6-4. I WAS TRAVELING AT 65MPH AND WENT TO PASS AND AT ACCELERATION THE TRUCK STALLED AND ALMOST DIED. I ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY A SEMI I HAD TO PULL OFF ON SHOULDER TO A COMPLETE STOP THEN ACCELERATE AGAIN. MY TRUCK HAS THE ECOBOOST ENGINE AND HOPE THEY CAN RECALL AND FIX PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS KILLED. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING ON I5 SOUTH IN CALIFORNIA WITH OUR CRUISE CONTROL SET FOR 70 MPH. WE WERE COMING INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC SO HIT THE BUTTON TO END CRUISE. IT DIDN'T WORK SO MY HUSBAND HIT THE BRAKE AND IT DIDN'T DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. IF MY HUSBAND WOULD PRESS THE BRAKE, IT WOULD SLOW DOWN BUT WHEN HE TOOK HIS FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, IT WOULD ACCELERATE UP TO 90 MPH. THERE WERE BIG TRUCKS ALL AROUND US AND OTHER VEHICLES AND WE COULDN'T MAKE IT TO AN OFF RAMP FOR 5 MILES. WHEN WE DID, MY HUSBAND SLOWED THE TRUCK ENOUGH TO PUT IT IN PARK BUT THE ENGINE REVVED SUPER HIGH AND WE SHUT IT OFF. WE TURNED IT BACK ON A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE WE TOOK OFF TO FINISH OUR TRIP. WE DID NOT USE THE CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP. WE TOOK OUR FORD TO THE DEALER THAT MONDAY AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL. FORD F150 2012 ECOBOOST EXT CAB 4X4 XLT AFTER DRIVING FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND STOPPING AT A REST AREA I BEGAN TO REENTER THE INTERSTATE. AS I ACCELERATED ON THE ONRAMP TRAFFIC WAS MODERATE SO I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR EVEN HARDER. THE TRUCK WAS IN 5TH GEAR AND DOWNSHIFTED TO 4TH. THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHUTTER AND LOOSE POWER. AT THIS POINT I PANICKED AND PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR EVEN HARDER. THE TRUCK DOWNSHIFTED INTO 3RD GEAR AT WHICH POINT IT LOST ALL POWER. ALL THAT I COULD DO WAS LET OUT AT THIS POINT AND HOPE TO REGAIN POWER. FORTUNATELY TRAFFIC HAD MOVED OVER BY THE TIME I HAD MADE IT TO THE END OF THE ONRAMP AT WHICH POINT THE TRUCK HAD A CLEAR AND DEFINITIVE MISS AND VERY LITTLE POWER. THE TRUCK SLOWLY ACCELERATED UP TO 60 MPH AND CONTINUED TO MISS FOR ANOTHER QUARTER MILE. AFTER ARRIVING AT MY PARENTS HOME 5 HOURS LATER WITHOUT ANOTHER INCIDENT OF FULL LOSS OF POWER I DROPPED MY WIFE OFF TO GET HER CAR. AS I PULLED OUT THE DRIVEWAY ONLY MINUTES LATER I PUNCHED THE ACCELERATOR TO SEE IF THE TRUCK WOULD DO IT AGAIN. THE TRUCK FELL ON ITS FACE. I COULD HAVE GOT OUT AND RAN FASTER. ONCE AGAIN IS MISSED FOR A QUARTER MILE AND CLEARED UP. TODAY, I HAD TO MAKE A QUICK TRIP INTO TOWN TO PICK UP SOMETHING FOR MY WIFE. AGAIN I PUNCHED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE TRUCK FELL ON ITS FACE AND HAD NO POWER. THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS STAYED ON EVER SINCE. THANKFULLY I HAVE NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AS OF YET. THESE TRUCKS NEED TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED!!! *TR
TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE AND LOSE ACCELERATION WHILE MERGING ONTO INTERSTATE TRAFFIC. SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 60MPH. SAME ISSUE OCCURRED ABOUT 3 HOURS LATER WHILE ACCELERATING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME TO MAKE AN AGGRESSIVE MOVE AS NOT TO REAR END MY TRUCK. APPROXIMATELY 65MPH. *TR
NOTICEABLE LAG DURING ACCELERATION. MOST NOTEWORTHY INCIDENT INVOLVED PASSING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, ENGINE BOGGED DOWN AND CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL. HAVE NOTICED THIS A FEW TIMES SINCE AS WELL. WE ARE IN MONSOON SEASON, HAVE HAD RAIN AND HIGHER THAN NORMAL HUMIDITY. HAVE ALSO NOTICED WHAT FEELS LIKE DELAYED AND HARD TRANSMISSION SHIFTING. FUEL CONSUMPTION/MILEAGE SEEMS TO BE AFFECTED. (WAS GETTING 17-23MPG WHEN TRUCK WAS FIRST PURCHASED IN MARCH 21013, AM NOW AVERAGING 13-15MPG). HAVE ALSO NOTICED VIBRATION/SHUDDERING WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN, AND DURING DOWNSHIFTING. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN SHOP AS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ON 8/26/13. FORD IS PERFORMING A COLD-SOAK(?) THE CODE THAT THEY PULLED FROM THE VEHICLE WAS INDICATIVE OF A MISFIRE BUT THEY CANNOT DETERMINE WHAT IS CAUSING THE MISFIRE AT THIS TIME. *TT
ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT RESPOND WHILE ENTERING AN INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO "LIMP HOME MODE" AND THE DISPLAY INDICATED THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
I WAS MERGING ONTO AN INTERSTATE, ACCELERATING FROM 20 MPH TO 65 MPH TO BLEND IN WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SPIT, SPUTTER AND SHAKE AND BOGGED DOWN AND WOULDN'T EXCEED 50MPH. WITH A TRACTOR TRAILER COMING I HAD NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO ABORT MY MERGE AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I THEN WAITED FOR ALL TRAFFIC TO SUBSIDE BEFORE I MADE ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO PULL ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO FORD. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK IN FOR MANY ISSUES(SLOW SPEED SHUDDER, HIGH SPEED SHUDDER, EMERGENCY BRAKE ISSUES, WARPED ROTORS, ELECTRONIC PROBLEMS, TIRE ISSUES, ACCELERATION HESITATIONS, ROUGH IDLE, FAILED BRAKE PUMP, AND MORE WITH LESS THAN 30, 000 MILES) ALL OF WHICH FORD STATES ARE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VEHICLE! 2012 FORD F150 STX "AUTO LAMPS" CAN NOT BE TURNED ON BY DEALERSHIPS, IF THEY WERE NOT FACTORY INSTALLED, EVEN THOUGH FACTORY WIRING AND PROPER PARTS, EXISTS. "LIGHTS ON WITH WIPERS", WHICH IS AN AVAILABLE OPTION WITH THE AUTO LAMP FEATURE, IS REQUIRED BY PENNSYLVANIA LAW, WHO MUST CONSIDER IT A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
UPON ACCELERATION, BETWEEN 15-25 MPH, MY TRUCK BEGAN TO STUMBLE AND LOST POWER. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME. IT HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES SINCE WITH THE LATEST OCCURRENCE ON SEPT. 3, 2013. THE VEHICLE MILEAGE IS CURRENTLY 18XXX. THE PROBLEM NORMALLY OCCURS COMING OFF OF IDLE AND ACCELERATING INTO TRAFFIC. IT HAS OCCURRED, HOWEVER, ONCE ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OVERTAKE A SLOWER DRIVER. SPEED WAS APPROXIMATELY 65-70 DURING THAT INSTANCE. DEALER INSTALLED ECU UPDATE WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR AUTHORIZATION WHICH CHANGED HOW THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES, DECELERATES, SHIFT POINTS AND ENGINE STUMBLES CONTINUOUSLY. DEALER DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO UNDO THE UPDATE. OPENED A CASE WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY, THEY BASICALLY BLAME THE DEALER FOR NOT INFORMING THE CUSTOMER (MYSELF) PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE UPDATE AND INFORMED ME THEY CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE A PROGRAM TO UNDO AN UPDATE OR INSTALL A PREVIOUS UPDATE TO RETURN THE VEHICLE BACK TO FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS. *TR

THIS WAS VERY CLOSE TO BEING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT INVOLVING MULTIPLE VEHICLES. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND RESOLVE THIS ISSUE AS FORD DOESN'T SEEM TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT IT. NOT TO MENTION I TOOK IT IN FOR FORD TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM AND THEY REFUSED TO MAKE THE REPAIRS AS THE VEHICLE DID NOT SHOW A TROUBLE CODE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE IS A TSB ON THIS VEHICLE BY FORD FOR THE REPAIR BUT FORD WON'T MAKE THE REPAIR. NOT TO MENTION SINCE THEN THE FUEL MILEAGE HAS DROPPED DRASTICALLY SINCE THE EVENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES NOW. I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT AN ACCIDENT WITH THIS ISSUE, NOT TO MENTION IT GOING OUT OF WARRANTY AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND THERE ARE LAWSUITS ALL OVER THE INTERNET FOR THIS SAME REASON. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN APRIL AND SPENT 40,000 DOLLARS ON A TRUCK THAT'S VERY UNSAFE BUT NOT EVEN DEPENDABLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND A POPPING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED OIL DRIPPING FROM THE ENGINE. THE LOW PRESSURE OIL WARNING INDICATOR ALSO ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (SHEEHY FORD IN ASHLAND, VIRGINIA) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN FOUND PIECES OF METAL FROM THE ENGINE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE ENGINE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPAIRED PER THE CONTACT'S ORDER, PENDING A DISCUSSION WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 15,000.
DOING 45 ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY, PULL OUT TO PASS, HAD NO ACCELERATION AT ALL. I WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE PASSING. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I THOUGHT PERHAPS I GOT BAD GASOLINE. THE SECOND INCIDENT, A FEW MONTHS LATER, WENT JUST ABOUT EXACTLY THE SAME WAY. RECENTLY, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ON TO A HIGHWAY I PUT THE PEDAL DOWN, THE VEHICLE SEEMED LIKE IT WAS MISSING VERY BADLY AND IT STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND WOULD NOT STOP FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, EVEN WHEN I SLOWED DOWN. I TOOK THE VEHICLE RIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP, IT'S STILL THERE. *JS
WE HAD THE SCARE OF OUR LIVES ALONG WITH OUR PASSENGERS. WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 F150 ON A TRIP BACK FROM CHARLESTON, WV TO OHIO ON INTERSTATE 77. THE TRUCK HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM. WE WERE TRAVELING ABOUT 75 MILES AN HOUR AND I ACCELERATED TO PASS SLOWER TRAFFIC IN THE RIGHT LANE. AS I ENTERED THE PASSING LANE THE TRUCK LOST POWER. LUCKILY, I'M AN EXCELLENT DRIVER AND WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY MOVE BACK TO THE RIGHT LANE BEFORE A LARGE SUV REAR ENDED US. I THEN TRIED TO ACCELERATE SINCE OUR SPEED HAD DROPPED TO ABOUT 50 MPH. THE TRUCK SHOOK VIOLENTLY UNTIL I LET OFF OF THE GAS. THE AC TURNED OFF WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AGAIN TO GET UP TO THE LEGAL SPEED OF 70 MPH. THE TRUCK AGAIN SHOOK VIOLENTLY. AFTER ABOUT TWO MILES THE F150 STARTED TO ACT SOME WHAT NORMAL AGAIN. WE DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY OTHER PROBLEMS IN THE REMAINING 150 MILES OF OUR TRIP. FOR THE MOST PART, THE TRIP TO CHARLESTON, WV FROM OHIO WAS WET. THE TRIP BACK WAS MOSTLY DRY WITH TEMPS IN THE LOW 80'S AND HUMID. I DON'T KNOW WHAT DAMAGE THIS CAUSED TO OUR TRUCK. I'M VERY UPSET WITH THESE AND OUR 2013 ESCAPE PROBLEMS. THE TRUCK IS PARKED FOR NOW, TO DANGEROUS THE DRIVE IN WET/HUMID CONDITIONS. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT READY TO HAPPEN.
ECOBOOST ENGINE: 7/06/13 FIRST TIME AFTER DRIVING 90 MILES ON I-10, PULLED OFF IN REST AREA. WHEN GETTING BACK ON THE INTERSTATE, WENT TO ACCELERATE TO MATCH TRAFFIC AND ENGINE FELL ON IT'S NOSE, FELT LIKE A STALL THEN BUCKED, MISFIRED , LOST ALL POWER. WHEN LIFTING OFF ACCELERATOR ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL. ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AGAIN, ENGINE LOST POWER AGAIN. IT FELT LIKE EITHER BAD GAS OR IGNITION FAILURE. WAS ABLE TO GET TRUCK UP TO SPEED USING CRUISE CONTROL. WITH A LIGHT ACCELERATOR TOUCH, WAS ABLE TO MAKE IN HOME FROM PENSACOLA TO WINTER HAVEN, FL. FILLED UP WITH DIFFERENT FUEL AND PROBLEM SEEMED TO GO AWAY, SO I DID NOT TAKE IT TO DEALER. SECOND OCCURRENCE 11/16/13 WHILE HEADING TO PENSACOLA AFTER DRIVING SEVERAL HOURS (70-75MPH), WHEN PASSING A SEMI GOING UPHILL ON I-10, FASTER TRAFFIC WAS APPROACHING FROM BEHIND, SO I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE TO GET AROUND THE SEMI TO CLEAR THE LEFT LANE . ENGINE FELL ON IT'S NOSE ONCE AGAIN, STALLED, MISFIRED, SHOOK AND LOST POWER. THE TRAFFIC WAS UPON US IN SECONDS. I WAS ABLE TO GET TRUCK BACK UP TO SPEED BY GENTLY USING CRUISE. THIS TIME TOOK TRUCK BACK TO DEALER. THEY INSTALLED A "SHIELD OR PARTITION" IN THE CHARGE-AIR AND DID A REPROGRAM. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 14,800. DEALER DID NOT SEEM CONFIDENT THAT THIS WAS THE FIX. WE WILL SEE. *TR
ON JULY 6, 2013, I WAS DRIVING IN RAINY WEATHER ON THE HIGHWAY AND OCCASIONALLY NOTICED A MISS/SHUDDER OF THE ENGINE DURING THE DRIVE. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT I HAD EXPERIENCED BEFORE AND HAD ADDRESSED, UNDER WARRANTY WITH MY FORD DEALER. I HAD SLOWED TO 30MPH DUE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THE NEED TO MERGE ONTO ANOTHER HIGHWAY WHEN I EXPERIENCED A VERY SEVERE AND FRIGHTENING ISSUE WITH MY F150. I WAS MERGING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON AN ON-RAMP AND NEEDED TO ACCELERATE HARD. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE REVVED BUT HAD NO POWER. THE TRUCK SHOOK SO BADLY THAT I COULD BARELY CONTROL IT AT 30 MPH. I LET OFF THE GAS AND TRIED AGAIN WITH THE SAME RESULT. BY NOW, I HAD TO STEER TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ON THE FOURTH OR FIFTH ATTEMPT, THE ENGINE FINALLY CAME TO LIFE AND ACCELERATED WITH ENOUGH POWER TO GET ME ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE 3.5L ECOBOOST EQUIPPED F150S. ALTHOUGH FORD HAS ISSUED TSBS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, SEVERAL "FIXES" HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTED ON MY TRUCK AND NONE HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE RECALLED OR BOUGHT BACK AND REPLACED WITH SAFER, NON-DEFECTIVE VEHICLES. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING FROM KENTUCKY TO ALABAMA IN DRIVING RAIN MY ENTIRE TRIP, TRUCK BEGINS TO MISFIRE AND LOSE POWER IN ALABAMA FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW. AFTER LETTING UP ON ACCELERATOR, TRUCK ENGINE STOPPED MISSING, BUT UNDER STRAIN AND ON HILLS IT AGAIN BEGAN TO MISS FIRE AND ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING AGAIN. BECAUSE OF POWER LOSS AND ENGINE BUCKING, I FOUND A FORD DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY FOR REPAIRS. THEY REPLACED THE INTERCOOLER AND REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER IN THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK DID STOP MISFIRING, BUT SEEMED TO DRIVE A LITTLE DIFFERENT. IT FELT LIKE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED DOWN AND STILL SEEMED TO MISS SOME DURING THE REST OF MY WET TRIP TO FLORIDA. TRUCK SEEMS TO DRIVE GREAT IN THE CITY UNDER DRY OR WET CONDITIONS NOW. * IT APPEARS THE ISSUE IS ONLY WITH EXTENDED TRAVEL IN VERY WET CONDITIONS. *TR
SINCE I PURCHASED MY TRUCK THERE HAS BEEN SEVEN DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WHERE I HAVE ACCELERATED TO ENTER AN INTERSTATE OR PASS A VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK IN AND THEY HAVE REPLACED PARTS AND SAID IT WAS REPAIRED. THIS PAST WEEKEND I WAS ENTERING THE INTERSTATE IN A CONSTRUCTION AREA WHERE BARRIERS WERE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE INTERSTATE. I ACCELERATED TO ENTER THE INTERSTATE AND THERE WERE CARS AND A SEMI APPROACHING WHERE I ENTERED. I ACCELERATED TO GET UP TO SPEED WITH TRAFFIC AND THE TRUCK STALLED AND WOULD NOT TAKE FUEL. THE APPROACHING SEMI COULD NOT STOP IN TIME AND HAD TO SWERVE TO MISS ME. HE MISSED HITTING ME BY INCHES AND ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR. WITH THE BARRIERS IN PLACE I COULD NOT GET OFF THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE TRUCK STALLED. I HAVE THE ECO-BOOST ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER. THEY ARE TELLING ME THEY CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING THAT IS CAUSING THE FAILURE. THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED MULTIPLE INJURIES OR DEATHS HAD THE SEMI NOT BEEN ABLE TO AVOID HITTING ME OR THE OTHER CARS. I PERSONALLY FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS ENGINE. *TR
I HAD THE TSB (FOR KNOWN SURGING ISSUE) PERFORMED ON MY TRUCK (2012 SUPER CREW 4X4) IN MAY AT 25K MILES. EVERYTHING SEEMED BETTER, UNTIL... THIS PAST SATURDAY, I LEFT THE HOUSE AT 5AM FOR A 7.5 HOUR/ 350 MILE DRIVE FROM HOME. IT WAS RAINING CONTINUOUSLY FOR THE FIRST TWO HOURS. SOMETIMES HARD RAIN, BUT IT DIDN'T STOP FOR THE FIRST 2 HOURS. I WAS DRIVING BACK COUNTRY ROADS WITH MOSTLY 55 MPH LIMITS AND ROLLING HILLS. GIVEN THE WEATHER, TYPE OF ROADS, TIME OF DAY, ETC. I DROVE GENTLY FOR THE TRIP, NEVER PUT MY FOOT IN IT. THEN, WHEN GOING UP A STEEPER HILL THAT REQUIRED MORE THROTTLE THAN THE OTHERS TO KEEP MY SPEED UP, THE TRUCK STARTED HESITATING. A LOT. MORE THAN IT EVER HAD BEFORE THE TSB. AND THEN, JUST AFTER THE HESITATION BEGAN, SOMETHING EXTRA OCCURRED THAT HAD NEVER HAPPENED TO IT BEFORE. THE TRUCK STARTED TO SHUDDER. THIS SHUDDERING WAS AKIN TO DRIVING OVER ROAD SHOULDER RUMBLE STRIPS ON STEROIDS. AS SOON AS I LET OFF THE GAS, THE SHUDDERING STOPPED. I GENTLY PUSHED THE PEDAL, SHUDDERING WAS BACK AND JUST AS BAD. LET OFF AGAIN. IT STOPPED. PUSHED THE PEDAL AGAIN. IT CAME BACK. PUSHED THE THROTTLE ONCE MORE, AND IT HAD STOPPED. I SLOWLY PUSHED FURTHER ON THE THROTTLE AND IT DIDN'T DO IT ANY LONGER. BY THIS TIME I WAS DOWN TO ABOUT 35-40 MPH GOING UP THE HILL. SO I PUSHED DOWN THE PEDAL ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK KICKED DOWN AND ACCELERATED WITH ONLY SLIGHT MOMENTS OF HESITATION. NOT ONCE DID THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. . THUS, I HAD A TEXTBOOK CASE OF EXACTLY WHAT THE TSB WAS SUPPOSED TO SOLVE, BUT DIDN'T. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING TO FLORIDA FROM TENNESSEE WE HAD STOPPED AT A GAS STATION. WHILE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND ACCELERATING, THE TRUCK STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY DUE TO MISFIRE INDICATED BY FLASHING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE MISS WAS SO BAD THAT I IMMEDIATELY HAD TO PULL OVER. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF TO CLEAR THE ON BOARD COMPUTER. THE TRUCK RAN FINE AFTERWARD, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. THIS WAS A BIT SCARY AS WE COULD HAVE BEEN HIT DUE TO THE RAPID LOSS OF POWER WHILE MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE VERY RAINY. WE HAD DRIVEN THRU RAIN FOR ~7 HOURS OFF AND ON. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT FORD HAS YET TO FIX WITH CONDENSATION IN THE TURBO'S INTAKE ON THE V6 ECOBOOST ENGINES. I AM HEADED TO THE DEALER WHEN I GET BACK IN TOWN. *TR
ON TRIP FROM LOUISVILLE KY. TO ATLANTA, GA IN THE RAIN, TRUCK DISPLAYED THE SHUDDERING STALL CAUSED BY CONDENSATION IN THE CHARGED AIR COOLER WHICH GETS INGESTED INTO ENGINE CAUSING MOTOR TO GO INTO LIMP MODE, TRUCK HAS HAD TWO OF THE THREE TSB'S PERFORMED AS THIS IS THE SEVENTH INCIDENT OF THE SAME PROBLEM SINCE NEW. WHEN TRUCK GOES INTO LIMP MODE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS YOU ARE IMMEDIATELY AT RISK FROM REAR END COLLISION. *TR
MYSELF AND MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING ON A SHORT FOUR LANE ROAD WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE. MY F150 ENGINE SHUDDERED, I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR, THE SHUDDER STOPPED. I THEN TRIED TO ACCELERATE AGAIN AND NOTHING. IT WAS LIKE I WAS COASTING, I HAD NO POWER FROM THE ENGINE TO ACCELERATE. I CONTINUED TO TRY AND ACCELERATE BUT NOTHING. THIS LASTED FOR 15-20 SECONDS THEN IT STARTED TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY. THIS SAME TYPE OF LOST OF POWER HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE THEN. THE FIRST TWO TIMES IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY, THE LAST TWO IT WAS NOT. I HAVE READ ABOUT THE ISSUES DOCUMENTED WITH THE F150 ECO BOOST ENGINE AND I AM SURE THIS IS THAT PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY I READ IT AFTER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK!! *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY MY TRUCK LOST ACCELERATION AT 60 MPH. I LET OFF THE THROTTLE AND EASED INTO IT. THE WHOLE TRUCK STARTED SHUTTERING AND TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING EXTREMELY HARD. IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO MAINTAIN SPEED. AT THE FIRST STOP LIGHT I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF IN AN ATTEMPT TO RESET THE ECU. ONCE I TOOK OFF IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN. IT'S JUST SCARY KNOWING THAT I COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHILE TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. THIS IS NOT SAFE AT ALL. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING SOUTH IN THE OUTSIDE LANE ON I 95 (FLORIDA) DURING HEAVY RAIN, APPROACHING A SLOWER MOVING VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I CHANGED LANES AND ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER, BEGAN TO MISFIRE AND RAPIDLY DECELERATED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TRAVELING IN RAINY CONDITIONS AT HIGHWAY SPEED FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR. SINCE I HAD COMMITTED TO MAKE THE OVERTAKING MANEUVER AND FOR THE FEW SECONDS I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE AND/OR PULL BACK INTO MY ORIGINAL LANE AS I WAS TRAVELING ADJACENT TO THE VEHICLE I WAS OVERTAKING, I REALIZED THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER VEHICLE FAST APPROACHING ME IN THE INSIDE (FAST/OVER TAKING) LANE. LUCKILY THE DRIVER WAS OBSERVANT ENOUGH TO RELEASE OF THE IMPENDING COLLISION A HEAD IF HE DID NOT TAKE EVASIVE ACTION AND SLOW DOWN. AFTER A FEW SECONDS I WAS ABLE TO PULL BACK INTO OUTSIDE/SLOW LANE. THIS LOSS OF POWER AND MISFIRE CONTINUED FOR ANOTHER 45 MINUTES, UP UNTIL I EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND DROVE TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING TO PASS, TRUCK STARTED VIBRATING,HAD LOSS OF POWER AND INCREASED RPM ON TACH TRUCK PRACTICALLY STOPPED IN ITS TRACKS FIRST TIME IT'S HAPPENED. WILL BE CONTACTING DEALER. DEFINITELY COULD BE HAZARD-AS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC SO I HOPE FORD TAKES NOTICE BEFORE PEOPLE DIE. *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT 6/28/13, WHEN ACCELERATING TO GET ONTO A HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING SOMEWHERE BEFORE 60 AND LOST ALL POWER. THE SPEEDOMETER PEGGED AT 60 AND THE RPMS JUMPED TO REDLINE, BUT THERE WAS NO POWER BEING PRODUCED. THE VEHICLE TOOK AT NOSE DIVE AND WOULD NOT ALLOW FUEL TO THE ENGINE UNTIL THE RPMS SETTLED TO IDLE AND I WAS ABLE TO FEATHER THE GAS PEDAL IN ORDER TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE ENGINE. THE SECOND INCIDENT 8/9/13, WHEN GOING TO PASS SOMEONE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ON I-95 THE VEHICLE FELL FLAT AGAIN, SAME SCENARIO, THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SAME ACTIONS AS ABOVE, WITH FEATHERING THE GAS PEDAL AND ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE ENGINE. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE INTERCOOLER WAS REPLACED AT 7600 MILES. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS IN BOTH SCENARIOS, THESE EVENTS COULD'VE BEEN CATASTROPHIC BOTH BEING ON HEAVILY TRAVELED HIGHWAYS. AT 500 MILES I HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND ONE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
