ON 5/1/15, WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, AS I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR, AND THERE WAS NO STOPPING POWER. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PUMP THE BRAKE AND USE THE PARKING BRAKE, MY VEHICLE CROSSED THE STREET, WENT UP THE CURB, AND STRUCK MY NEIGHBOR'S LANDSCAPE WALL, DAMAGING IT SEVERELY. TOTAL DISTANCE TRAVELLED WAS APPROXIMATELY 2.5 TRUCK LENGTHS BEFORE IMPACTING THE NEIGHBOR'S WALL. UPON INSPECTION BY MYSELF AND LATER MY INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR, THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY, BUT THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS SIGNS OF LEAKAGE. NO PUDDLES OR VISIBLE BRAKE FLUID. TRUCK WAS TOWED TO LOCAL DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS 'BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO LEAK FAULTY BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER'. WITHIN A FEW DAYS, THE BRAKES AGAIN DID NOT FEEL RIGHT WITH A STRANGE PEDAL FEEL. GRADUALLY, THE WORSENING PEDAL FEEL WAS ACCOMPANIED BY A METALLIC SCRAPING OR GRINDING NOISE. A SECOND TRIP TO A DEALER REVEALED A FAILED BRAKE BOOSTER DUE TO BRAKE FLUID INGESTION, WHICH ALSO EXPLAINED WHY THERE WAS NO VISIBLE EVIDENCE OF A LEAK AFTER THE CRASH. THE BRAKE BOOSTER OPERATES AT A VACUUM, SO AS THE MASTER CYLINDER LEAKED CATASTROPHICALLY, THE BOOSTER SUCKED IN THE FLUID, CAUSING IT TO ULTIMATELY FAIL AS WELL. BOTH THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE BRAKE BOOSTER WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. I AM SURPRISED THAT THERE AS BEEN NO ACTION ON THIS ISSUE YET - THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY SYSTEM OF A 2.5+ TON VEHICLE - AS THERE ARE NUMEROUS NEARLY IDENTICAL FAILURE MODES WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR. I TRULY HOPE NOBODY IS KILLED BY THIS; IT WAS TRULY TERRIFYING TO BE WITHOUT BRAKES WHILE MOVING IN REVERSE IN A MASSIVE VEHICLE.
VEHICLE HESITATION WITH JERKING AND LOSS OF MOMENTUM WHEN LIGHTLY ACCELERATING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 60 MPH AND 70 MPH WHEN HOT. DEALER DETERMINED THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE SPARK PLUGS AND BOOTS AND CHANGED THEM OUT AT 48K MILES. DEALER MAINTENANCE BOOK LISTS CHANGING OUT THE SPARK PLUGS AND BOOTS AT 100K MILES WHICH A GROSS UNDERESTIMATED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. THIS IS MISS LEADING TO THE BUYER FOR EXPECTED REPAIR COSTS AND DANGEROUS FOR THE OWNER WHILE ON THE ROAD AND DANGEROUS TO OTHER MOTORIST BECAUSE OF THE UNEXPECTED LOSS OF MOMENTUM AND JERKING OF THE VEHICLE.
THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IN MY 2013 FORD F-150 RECENTLY HAS BECOME AND REMAINS CONSTANTLY LIT UP. AFTER READING ABOUT ALL OF FORD'S RECENT AIRBAG RECALL ISSUES IT SEEMS THAT THE ISSUE WITH MY DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG MAY BE CONSISTENT WITH THE DEFECTS THAT LED TO THOSE RECALLS BY FORD. UPON CONTACTING THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY TRUCK AS WELL AS THE FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS DEPARTMENT I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VIN IS NOT ON THEIR CURRENT LIST OF VEHICLES ELIGIBLE FOR AN AIRBAG RECALL. THIS IS A VERY FRUSTRATING SITUATION, I DO NOT FEEL THAT I OR MY FAMILY ARE SAFE WHILE DRIVING MY TRUCK AFTER READING WHAT HAS BEEN PUBLISHED ABOUT FORD'S SUSPECT AIRBAGS. CONVENIENTLY THIS DEFECT BECAME APPARENT RIGHT AROUND THE TIME THAT MY VEHICLE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, THE NEXT TIME I AM IN THE MARKET FOR A NEW VEHICLE I WILL KEEP IN MIND FORD'S DISREGARD FOR CONSUMER SAFETY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-150 EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES, SIZE: P275/65/R18 (NA). WHILE ROTATING THE TIRES, THE CONTACT NOTICED CRACKS BETWEEN THE TREAD. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES EXPERIENCED CRACKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE DEALER, WHO BOTH STATED THAT ALL THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,500.
2013 FORD F-150 LARIAT SUPER CREW: APRIL 17, 2015: DRIVING SOUTH ON RT 95 TO BOSTON, MY WIFE (DRIVER) TURNED ON THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER TO CLEAR FOG FROM WINDOWS AND SIDE MIRRORS. THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOUD "GUN SHOT" TYPE OF NOISE THAT STARTLED US BOTH. WE LOOKED AT WINDSHIELD TO SEE IF WE HAD BEEN HIT AND FOR CRACKS; THERE WAS NOTHING. ONCE STOPPED AND LOOKING OVER THE TRUCK WE DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR WINDOW/BACK LITE ON DRIVER'S SIDE HAD SHATTERED. I RAN MY HAND OVER THE ENTIRE WINDOW SEARCHING FOR AN IMPACT POINT, OR MARK AND THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. WE BOTH WONDERED ALOUD AS TO HOW THIS WINDOW JUST SHATTERED ON ITS OWN. ONCE HOME, I WENT ON THE INTERNET TO LOOK UP POSSIBLE CAUSES AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE MANY, MANY CASES OF THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENING TO FORD PICKUPS. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMERS SERVICE TODAY AND SPOKE AT LENGTH WITH "ANGELA" WHO SEEMED TO UNDERSTAND THE SAFETY ISSUE OF WINDOWS SHATTERING WHILE DRIVING BUT AFTER PUTTING ME ON HOLD TO CHECK WITH SOMEONE, SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING FORD CAN DO UNTIL A RECALL IS ISSUED, IF EVER. I TOLD HER THAT THERE IS NEARLY 60 COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE ON THE NHTSA SITE, ALONG WITH SCORES OF OTHERS IN FORD FORUMS, ETC. THIS NUMBER APPARENTLY IS NOT ENOUGH OF A SAFETY ISSUE FOR FORD TO RESPOND, BUT COMMON SENSE DICTATES THAT ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL SOMETHING VERY SERIOUS OCCURS FROM FORD F-150 WINDOWS SHATTERING WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE! *TR
I HAD JUST EXITED THE FREEWAY AND WAS AT A RED LIGHT WHEN THE TRUCK MESSAGE BOARD READ SHIFT TO PARK , I DID THAT AND THE TRUCK BASICALLY SHUT DOWN , FLASHING BOTH A SERVICE ADVANCETRAC MESSAGE AS WELL AS A START SYSTEM FAULT MESSAGE. THE HAZARD LIGHTS WOULD NOT WORK NOR ANY SIGNAL IN THE VEHICLE, THE RADIO, DOME LIGHTS WORKED BUT THE KEYLESS REMOTE KEYS WERE NOT WORKING. SO WE CALLED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAS STUCK ON THE BOTTOM OF A FREEWAY OFF RAMP FOR 3 HOURS WITH NO HAZARD LIGHTS FUNCTIONAL I HAD TO POP THE HOOD AND OPEN MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND STAND OUTSIDE OF THE TRUCK TO LET OTHER DRIVERS KNOW WE WERE STALLED IT WAS A VERY NERVE RACKING EXPERIENCE I'M JUST THANKFUL NOBODY HIT US AS WERE BASICALLY JUST SITTING DUCKS AT THE BOTTOM OF A BUSY FREEWAY OFF RAMP. PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOME ONE GETS KILLED.
BRAKE PADS ARE SEVERELY DETERIORATING EARLY IN THEIR LIFESPAN. FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 25,841 MILES. DEALER SAID IT WAS A CALIBER HANGING UP. HAPPENED AGAIN AT 39,425 MILES. ROTOR WAS GOUGED AGAIN ON OPPOSITE SIDE . DEALER STATED CALIPER AND ROTORS WERE NOT DEFECTIVE. POSSIBLE DEFECTIVE BRAKE PADS. SAME FAILURE ON MY WIFES 2013 FORD FUSION SE.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2013 FORD F150 CREW CAB. MAY I SAY THAT THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE ARE AT BEST SKETCHY, AT WORSE DANGEROUS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED ROUGH STOPS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND HAD TO HAVE THEM ATTENDING TO BY TECHNICIANS MORE THAN ONCE. THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN TURNED, BUT THE STUTTERING STOPS PERSIST. THEY TELL ME THAT NOTHING CAN BE DONE UNTIL I CHANGE THEM AND THAT DOESN'T SIT WELL WITH ME. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY TO GET WHAT I FEEL ARE DEFECTIVE BRAKES FIXED?
WHEN COLD STARTING THE ECO BOOST ENGINE A LOUD RATTLING NOISE CAN BE HEARD FOR SEVERAL SECONDS... FORD SERVICE STATED THAT THE NOISE IS TIMING CHAIN STRETCH AND STATED THAT OVER TIME THIS WILL CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND COULD DESTROY THE ENGINE... THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON INDICATING THE ENGINE IS OUT OF TIME. IF THE TIMING CHAIN SHOULD SLIP OR BREAK IT WOULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO BE DESTROYED WHICH WOULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD.... *TR
Vehicle looses speedometer and downshifts unexpectedly at speed
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WITH MY WIFE AND TWO YOUNG BOYS HEADING TO BASEBALL PRACTICE, I LOST ALL BRAKE PRESSURE AND HAD A DIFFICULT TIME BRINGING THE CAR TO A HALT. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS IN THE SHOP, THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THE MASTER CYLINDER LOST ALL ITS FLUID WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS ~16 MONTHS OLD AND HAD ~37,000 MILES (JUST BARELY OUT OF WARRANTY). THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO FIX IT AFTER SEVERAL DAYS AND ONLY CHARGED $100 AS IT WAS CLOSE TO BEING IN WARRANTY AND SEEMED LIKE A HIGHLY UNUSUAL EVENT. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT OTHER THAN A ONE OFF FLUKE BUT SAW AN ARTICLE THIS MORNING THAT OTHERS HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE HAD NO OTHER ISSUES SINCE THE RESOLUTION BUT OBVIOUSLY CONCERNED IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING IF ITS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM.
DURING THE START UP OF MY 2013 FORD F-150 KING RANCH, I PROCEEDED TO UTILIZE THE REAR DEFROSTER TO GET THE ICE OFF THE REAR WINDOW. THE REAR WINDOW IS COMPRISED OF 3 PANELS OF GLASS, ONE ON EACH SIDE AND THE SLIDING WINDOW IN THE CENTER. THE PANEL BEHIND THE DRIVERS SIDE THEN PROCEEDED TO CRACK AND SPIDER ACROSS THE ENTIRE WINDOW. THE INITIAL SOUND LED ME TO BELIEVE IT WAS ANOTHER ISSUE AS IT WAS A LOUD BANG, BUT I THEN LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW AND NOTICED THE CRACKED GLASS. IT RENDERS THE ENTIRE WINDOW USELESS AND A SAFETY HAZARD AS IT DISTORTS AND SKEWS MY VISION AND ABILITY TO SEE OUT OF IT SAFELY UNTIL I CAN ATTEMPT TO HAVE FORD RECTIFY THIS ISSUE. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE, IT APPEARS AS IF THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE, THAT REALLY SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO BEGIN WITH. *TR

MAR 15, 2015 AT APPROX. 1030AM,STARTED VEHICLE WITH REMOTE START FOB, AFTER WARMING FOR APPROX. 10 MINS LEFT TRAVELING AT ROUGHLY 15 MPH, HEARD LOUD BANG/POP, NOTICED THAT REAR DRIVERS PARTIAL WINDOW WAS SHATTERED. TRAVELED APPROX 1/8 MILE AND RETURNED HOME TO INVESTIGATE AND FOUND NO VISIBLE DAMAGE ON WINDOW OR AREA AROUND WINDOW. RESEARCHED ONLINE WITH OTHER FORD OWNERS AND FOUND MULTIPLE OTHER OCCURRENCES AS ABOVE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO DRIVE ABNORMALLY WHEN REACHING SPEEDS OVER 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR COMPRESSOR HAD FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, DETAILS OF THE DIAGNOSIS COULD NOT BE PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR REPAIRS RELATED TO THE FAILURE AND IT WAS INFORMED EACH TIME THAT THE BRAKES AND ROTORS HAD PREMATURELY DETERIORATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
FORD F150 ECOBOOST 2013 13,000 MILE THE ENGINE SHAKES AND A LOST OF POWER WHEN PASSING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON WHILE ITS HAPPEN BUT SHUTS OFF WHEN THE POWER COME BACK. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO FORD 4TIMES BUT BECAUSE IT HAS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THEY LOOK AT ME LIKE IF I'M CRAZY.
REMOTE STARTED TRUCK GOT IN 15 MINUTES LATER AND CLOSE THE DOOR AND THEN HEARD A LOUD BANG I LOOKED BACK THE REAR PANEL WINDOW THE DRIVERS SIDE SHATTERED AND SOMETHING SMELLED LIKE IT WAS BURNING THE WHOLE PANEL CRACKED INTO HUNDREDS OF LITTLE CRACKS, IT WAS 7 DEGREES OUTSIDE AT THE TIME. *TR
REAR GLASS HAS SHATTERED ON DRIVER SIDE PANEL OUT OF THREE PANELS. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS W/ REAR GLASS THAT HAS DEFROST & SLIDER. I HAVE SPENT SOME TIME RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE & FOMOCO REFUSES TO SEE THAT THIS ISSUE DOES OR COULD EXIST. DUE TO THE FAST TEMPERATURE INCREASE FROM COLD CLIMATE CUSTOMERS USING POWER DEFROST THE DRIVER SIDE REAR GLASS PANEL CAN OR MAY SHATTER. I ENCOUNTERED THIS ISSUE YESTERDAY WHEN I CALLED SERVICE I WAS PROMPTLY TOLD THAT THIS ISSUE IS A NON-ISSUE AND IT MUST HAD BEEN VANDALISM. ALTHOUGH BEING A PROFESSION ASE ACCREDITED TECHNICIAN KNEW BETTER AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH, ALSO THE PARTS DEPARTMENT HAVING A CURRENT ROTATING STOCK OF THESE WINDOWS ON THE SHELF SPELLED OUT THAT A ISSUE IS KNOW OF. I CHECKED ALL RECALL & TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS PERTAINING TO A ISSUE LIKE THIS WITH LITTLE TO NO INFORMATION. IN MY INTERNET RESEARCH IT HAS BECAME VERY CLEAR THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS SEEING HOW PEOPLE HAVE POSTED YOUTUBE VIDEOS SHOWING HOW TO REPLACE THE GLASS & GENERAL FORUM CHATTER. NO ONE GOT HURT THIS TIME BUT WHEN "SAFETY" GLASS SHATTERS IS CREATES HUNDREDS/THOUSANDS OF TINY SHARP DEBRIS. IF MY DAUGHTER WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS OCCURRED & WAS TOLD THIS ISN'T A "ISSUE" I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE TOLD THE SERVICE WRITER TO COME RUB HIS ARMS ACROSS THE BACK SEAT OF MY VEHICLE AND TELL ME "NO ISSUE EXISTS". *TR
MY FIRST INCIDENT ON MY TRUCK WAS TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING WITH NO WARNING, DEALER SAID IT WAS ELECTRICAL ISSUE. NEXT WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND MY REAR WINDOW SHATTERED, GLASS COMPANY SAID THEY HAVE DONE A TON OF THESE AND WAS DUE TO A SHORT IN REAR DEFROST CAUSING THE WINDOW TO SHATTER? FORD DEALER STATED THEY DIDN'T KNOW IF IT WOULD BE WARRANTED THAT SEND IN S PHOTO TO FORD TO BE DETERMINED WARRANTY OR NOT ? *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND WARMING UP. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW SHATTERED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE DID NOT DECELERATE AND INCREASED IN RPMS WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A BODY REPAIR SHOP, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
REMOTE STARTED VEHICLE OUTSIDE ON 0 DEGREE EVENING. ENTERED TRUCK AFTER ABOUT THE MINUTES, PUT KEY IN IGNITION, AND TURNED KEY TO ON POSITION. WHILE I WAS PREPARING TO DRIVE I HEARD LOUD POP IN THE BACK SEAT AREA OF VEHICLE. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW PANE, IN THE THE PIECE REAR WINDOW, WAS SHATTERED. *JS
BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT AND THE POWER STEERING MADE A NOISE AND THE ADVANCE TRAC WARNING AND HILL DESCENT WARNING CAME ON. AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT EACH TIME THE WHEEL NEEDED TO BE TURNED TO THE LEFT THE SAME NOISE WOULD OCCUR AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD RESIST TURNING. SOON THE PROBLEM INCREASED TO BE BOTH DIRECTIONS AND I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY DISCONNECTED SOMETHING SO THERE ISN'T ANY POWER STEERING. THIS COULD AFFECT SOMEONE DRIVING AND CAUSE THEM NOT TO TURN.
WE HAVE A 2013 FORD F150. OUR BACK PASSENGER SLIDING GLASS WINDOW SUDDENLY SHATTERED ONE DAY. NO CRASH, ACCIDENT, NOTHING HIT THE VEHICLE OR THE GLASS. OUR TRUCK WAS PARKED WHEN IT HAPPENED. FEW DAYS PRIOR TO THIS I NOTICED THE REAR DEFROST WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. AFTER THIS INCIDENT I STARTED RESEARCHING ON-LINE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS WE WERE NOT AWARE OF. I CAME ACROSS A WEBSITE THAT HAD MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM! SAME WINDOW AND SAME INSTANCES ALMOST TO A TEE. LUCKILY WE WERE NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME NOR WAS MY DAUGHTER IN THE VEHICLE. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE SEEN A FEW OF THESE. WHEN I CALLED AN AUTO GLASS STORE THE EMPLOYEE TOLD ME HE HAS SEEN 15 WINDOWS EXACTLY LIKE OURS THIS YEAR AND RECENTLY WAS TOLD THE BACK GLASS FOR THESE VEHICLES WERE ON BACK ORDER. SO THAT WAS EVIDENCE TO ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. ORIGINALLY FORD WAS DENYING THAT THE SHATTERED WINDOW WAS DEFECT. BACK (REAR WINDOW) STATIONARY GLASS EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD! FIRST, I HAD EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR DEFROST NOT FUNCTIONING THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS. I WAS DRIVING ON US 82 EAST BOUND, APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES EAST OF BONHAM, TEXAS, WHEN SUDDENLY MY SUNROOF EXPLODED SEND A SHOWER OF GLASS ON TOP OF ME. I REMEMBER MY BRAKES DEPRESSING COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR BOARD , YET AS THOUGH THERE WAS NO AIR LINES. IT HAS BEEN A LONG RECOVERY, WHICH IS WHY CERTAIN THINGS ARE RETURNING SLOWLY. WHEN DRIVING ON FREEWAY, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER. I PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY AND THE ENGINE STALLED. IT WAS RAINING AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT. ON 9/14/15 THE VEHICLE AGAIN HAD A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. IT WAS NOT RAINING AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND HAD A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. THE WRENCH SYMBOL AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WOULD BARELY MOVE FORWARD WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE "THROTTLE BODY". FORD MADE BOTH REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THEY REFUSED TO REIMBURSE US FOR OUR TOWING, HOTEL AND RENTAL CAR EXPENSES INCURRED AS A RESULT OF OUR VEHICLE BREAKING DOWN.

USING THE FACTORY REMOTE, I STARTED THE 2013 FORD F150 FOR FIRST TIME OF THE DAY 12/18/14 AND ENTERED VEHICLE 5 MINUTES LATER. PUT KEY IN COLUMN IGNITION. DID NOT TOUCH ANY CONTROLS. WITH THE TRANSMISSION STILL IN PARK, A VERY LOUD NOISE OCCURRED. ONE SECTION OF THE REAR WINDOW / BACKLITE HAD SHATTERED TOP TO BOTTOM, EDGE TO EDGE. THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE WAS 24F, THE HEAT SETTING WAS 67F. VEHICLE WAS BACKED INTO DRIVEWAY WITH GARAGE BEHIND. NOTHING COULD HAVE HIT THE WINDOW FROM THE OUTSIDE AND THE VEHICLE HADN'T MOVED, YET THE GLASS PRACTICALLY EXPLODED. THERE ARE DOZENS OF VERY SIMILAR EXPERIENCES SHARED ON SEVERAL INTERNET FORUMS INVOLVING YEARS 2010 FORWARD OF THE SAME MODEL TRUCK -- SAME GENERATION. FORD HAS NOT CREATED A TSB AND THERE ISN'T A RECALL, AND FORD HAS MADE NO INDICATION THAT THEY WILL DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY REFERRED ME BACK TO A DEALER TO DOCUMENT THE DAMAGE. LOCAL FORD DEALER TOLD ME AFTERWARD THAT THE REAR WINDOW DEFROST TURNS ON AUTOMATICALLY WITH THE REMOTE START FEATURE. NOW DRIVER VISIBILITY IS OBSCURED AND I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE ELECTRICAL HEATING ELEMENT. REPORTEDLY FIRES HAVE OCCURRED WITH THIS SITUATION. I WON'T BE USING THE REAR DEFROST UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES -- EVEN IN NORTHERN ILLINOIS, IN THE WINTER. IT SEEMS MOST OWNERS HAVE BEEN DENIED WARRANTY CLAIMS BECAUSE FORD STATED THE DAMAGE WAS TO GLASS, WHICH ISN'T COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE GLASS ISN'T THE PROBLEM, ITS THE EVIDENCE. FORD SAID IT IS UP TO THE DEALER TO DETERMINE IF THE DAMAGE IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT TO GET REPLACEMENT UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THEY SUBMIT A WARRANTY CLAIM WITH PHOTOS TO FORD WHICH WILL EITHER APPROVE OR DENY THE CLAIM. THE DEALER QUOTED $800.00 INSTALLED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE BACKLITE ASSEMBLY. THE TWO DIFFERENT STORIES ARE TROUBLING. I'M ALREADY PREPARING MYSELF FOR THE RUN-AROUND. *TR

AFTER HAVEN DRIVEN FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF IN SUB FREEZING TEMPERATURES, WITH THE MIRROR DEFROSTER ON, WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION I GOT OUT AND CLOSED THE DOOR AND I HEARD A LOUD POP AND THE TINKLING SOUND THAT SHATTERED GLASS MAKES AS IT FALLS TO THE GROUND. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE REAR WINDOW AND IN COMBINATION WITH THE MIRROR DEFROST SYSTEM IS A CRUDE "OPEN LOOP" HEATING SYSTEM THAT WORKS ON A TIMER INSTEAD OF A TEMPERATURE FEEDBACK LOOP TO CONTROL THE TEMPERATURE OF THE GLASS. THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER IS ALSO TIED TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE MIRROR DEFROSTERS, SO WHEN YOU TURN THE MIRROR DEFROSTER ON THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER IS ALSO ON. I HAVE A CAP ON THE TRUCK SO THE REAR WINDOW DOESN'T SEE AS MUCH COLD AIR AS THE MIRRORS DO, BUT ALL THREE STAY ON THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME. THERE IS A TIMER CIRCUIT THAT TURNS THE DEFROSTER OFF AFTER 10 MINUTES AND THE MIRRORS IMMEDIATELY FROST BACK UP ONCE IT TURNS OFF, SO I HIT THE BUTTON AND THEY COME BACK ON AGAIN. YOU HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY 10 MINUTES WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING IN FREEZING TEMPERATURES OR THE MIRRORS ARE UNUSABLE. I DON'T USE THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER, BUT I NEED THE MIRROR DEFROSTER. SO MY THEORY IS THAT BECAUSE OF THE "CHEAP" DESIGN OF THE WINDOW DEFROSTER SYSTEM, THE REAR WINDOW OVER HEATED TO THE POINT THAT THE PRESSURE DEVELOPED INSIDE THE CAB WHEN CLOSING THE DOOR SHATTERED THE OVERHEATED GLASS. THE EXACT PROBLEM HAPPENED BEFORE ON 01-29-2014! *TR
