While the engine is idling, whether in park, drive, or reverse the engine intermittently loses RPM and shuts off. The dealer claims they can not duplicate the issue. No messages appear other then the car is on battery power. This has been going on for about the last 20000 miles.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while exiting the driveway of his residence, he heard an abnormal noise while turning in either direction. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact continued driving the vehicle to a fast-food restaurant when the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the vehicle drove over a street divider bumper. The contact was able to get the vehicle out of the road. The contact stated that an unknown steering warning light was illuminated. The contact towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the rack and pinion to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The break pedal became unresponsive and would have to be pressed alot more that usual to stop the car and the stopping distance was much much longer. Then I noticed that every time I press the brakes oil shoots out from the front driver side. When I searched online I noticed that there is a similar recall for the exact same issue and same model year ford F-150, however my VIN number is not included in the recall.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated the gear shift indicator light turned off intermittently and would not be able to shift gears. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and had the sunroof track replaced; however, the repair did not resolve the failure. The contact called Cavalier Ford Greenbrier Sales (1515 S Military Hwy, Chesapeake, VA 23320: (757) 424-1111) and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.
Mushroomed Lug Nuts needs replacements04
On 11-12-2020, our 2016 Ford F150 experienced a serious and dangerous brake failure. Without warning, the Right Front brake line ruptured while stopping.. The driver was able to stop the vehicle while avoiding a collision. Inspection by one of our company mechanics revealed that the brake line failed at the upper crimp. The brake line was replaced with an OEM part and the brake system was bled. Vehicle mileage was 110546. On 11-19-2021, our 2016 Ford F150 experienced a serious and dangerous brake failure. Without warning, the Left Front brake line ruptured while stopping with a different driver. The driver was able to avoid colliding with another vehicle at a stop light by slamming the vehicle into Park. Inspection by one of our company mechanics revealed the brake line, like the Left Front one a year prior, failed at the upper crimp. The brake line was replaced with an OEM part and the brake system bled. Vehicle mileage was 129149. After both failures, Power Ford's service department was contacted with this safety concern. They responded by stating that they had not seen any problems with late model F150 brake .lines. Our company vehicles undergo regular servicing and brake fluids are checked. This vehicle was out of warranty prior to the first failure, and warranty wasn't an issue and wasn't claimed. However, brake lines typically last much longer than five years without any problems and our company feels that this could be a major safety issue.
My truck started making a whistle and ticking sound different than the standard turbo whistle. I've also noticed a burning smell recently when accelerating. I took the vehicle in to the dealership, and they pointed out that the exhaust manifold is warped. Looking online, this is a standard issue with Ford's Ecoboost engine -- however this is not covered by the extended warranty. This could cause the vehicle to fail emissions testing
I was following behind my sister driving the vehicle. While on the interstate behind a big rig in the fast lane, he was driving in the lane without passing anyone. I thought my sister was tired of following behind the rig and decided to pass him in the right lane. After watching her apply the brakes several times, she moved (to the next only and right) lane and the truck kept accelerating to high speeds 70, 75, 80, 85, 90 and then to 95 miles per hour, all along she is trying to apply the brake and it is not helping but you could see the taillights lighting up. Finally about a mile down the road she was able to get the truck back in control and pulled over into the median. We are all lucky the interstate was not congested at this area at this point of time, especially my sister.
during normal highway crusing, the transmission gear indicator started flashing and experienced loss of power, as if the car was in neutral causing me to decelerate. sometimes when the transmission "catches" again, it'll catch in a lower gear such as 2nd, which will cause rapid deceleration. Multiple times I've been worried about getting rear ended when this happens. This issue happens about 3 times per week. Dealership can't diagnose and I even have a video of this happening. Dealership states tranmission repairs are over 3 weeks out. Simply unnacceptable.
I was going to pass someone and as I was speeding up the check engine light came on. I pulled over and there was nothing wrong with the truck. Months later there was a warning that came up on the dash it said something about shifting and i was to park the truck. I took it to a transmission shop, come to find out that the shifting sensor had went out. They cleared the check engine light and it came back on. Ran a diagnostic on it and it said there was like 8 different things that needs to be fixed. There was Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold, Air Distribution Damper Position Sensor- Circuit Short to Ground or Open, Bank 1 Air/Fuel Ration Imbalance, Sensor Circuit, Internal Control Module Torque Performance, Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1, Sensor 1). When I am at a certain speed the truck will vibrate (feels like you have ran over the rubber strips on the road), if I accelerate and the passing gear kicks in there is a strange sound coming from under the truck. I dontfell like this should be put off on me. I have had alot of people saying that they are having the same issues I am having.
From reading others experiences in this model of F150, I think it was the throttle body. Coming out of a complete stop, I pressed the throttle all the way down. The truck began accelerating, then the dash started chiming, and the truck would lurch forward and back. At this point, the throttle was completely unresponsive. After getting the truck to the side of the highway, 'Service Advance Track' was on the dashboard screen, followed by 'Hill start assist not available'. The local Ford dealership looked at it, and said they fixed it. However, in the past few months it has happened 6 more times. There were no symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.
I was driving down the road when the rear window shattered. It looks like it blew outward. I was not using the rear defroster, nor were there any other vehicles that could have thrown a rock.
After driving at highway speed for approx 1 hour, came to stop at red light. Vehicle idles rough, dropping to 250-300 rpm, then stalled in traffic, requiring restart. Third time this issue has occurred, all at stop signs or red lights.
we bought this used truck from the ford dealership only 3 months prior! the car max report and other research we did before buying showed 0 issues like this with the truck. we used auto start, which does turn rear defrost on max, leaving a store parking lot. driving through parking lot pulling up to stop light less than 5 minutes after starting truck and as we begin to slow down we heard a terrifying loud explosion sound. we turned around and the entire rear windshield had shattered into tiny glass pieces. some small pieces of glass hit us and some was on the backseat and on the truck bed cover. there were no significant holes of any size or items around the inside or outside of the truck that could have caused the damage. thankfully we were slowing down while driving otherwise we could have been in a wreck with how loud the sound was! dealership we bought it from refused to acknowledge the issue or even help pay for damage! no warning lights or anything else showed up before or after it happened. we did our reasearch after to find what caused it and now it is obvious based on others reported experiences that it was from the rear defrost being on thanks to the auro start function. we still have not had it fixed since quotes from dealership and 3rd party places without insurance are around $700-$1000. with insurance we would have to pay a $500 deductible and they would cover the rest. we have a powerslide window on the rear windshield to which increases the cost too! we even paid the dealership the extra several hundred dollars for the extended warrenty when we bought the truck and they refuse to cover anything with glass! no resolution yet just trying to get Ford to fix their own defect issues by continuing to contact them.
My name is [XXX]. My girlfriend and I bought a used 2016 F-150 truck back in July 2021, about 3 months earlier. We were driving yesterday (Oct 19, 2021) out from a Panera parking lot and suddenly, all we heard was a loud bang, almost like a gunshot. We did not know what it was originally so we looked around and saw the rear window had exploded into million pieces and shattered. Luckily, we did not have any pets/children/people sitting in the back, otherwise this would be a trip to the emergency room as the shatters were all over the back seat and inside the truck bed. When we came home, we looked online and found multiple incidents that this happens with the F-150 and Ford has not issued a public recall or done anything to prevent it. We called our dealer that we bought the truck from and they denied/pretended to not know what we were talking about and gave us a 3rd party to get a quote to repair the glass (which we found out it was almost $1000!) We tried and called another Ford dealer, and alas, same thing happened. They blatantly denied and pretended that they did not know or hear anything like that before, even though, if you do a quick google search, thousands of owners had had this issue! This is a safety issue and Ford needs to own it and do something about it. For us we were lucky to not transport anyone with us, otherwise I would imagine pieces of glass would be implanted in faces, eyes, bodies,...The vehicle that we were driving is in top shape and insured. All maintenance is done and up to date, even recalls have been done on the truck. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Several recalls on the same make and model as mine. Why is my truck not covered under recall. These issue should not happen to a vehicle 5 years old with less the. 85k miles and all work has been completed at lithos ford of boise where I purchased it.
The vehicle is beginning to suddenly lose power during driving as if it was shifted into neutral. This happens most days lately and is unsafe because my vehicle suddenly slows down without warning. I have full electrical and engine power, but the transmission seems to act as if I've shifted into neutral. I believe the problem to be electrical because the transmission temperature, feel, and sound are fine, and because I noticed that sometimes the gear indicator on my dashboard goes blank. It's as if the transmission loses track of what gear it is supposed to be in.
Rear window glass spontaneously shattered. Sounded like a gunshot when it happened. Defroster was on. There are numerous instances on various Ford forums of this problem having occurred on F150s
Re: [XXX]. On 10/11/21, I brought my 2016,Ford, F-150 into Hollingsworth Richardson, Baton Rouge, LA for an oil change, and tire rotation. I was informed by the Intake Clerk that the technician could not rotate the tires because he could not remove the lug nuts. Later, I discovered that from. About 2010 to 2015, Ford Manufacturing used composite materials over the lug nuts that would swell, thus rendering the lug nuts immovable. I contacted Ford Manufacturing, and made a complaint. They were to respond within 24 hours. Two days later, after not receiving a response, I contacted Ford via chat, and was told that my case had been summarily closed. This potentially dangerous defect required me to purchase 24 replacement lug nuts at a cost of $73.00, then take my vehicle to a local mechanic, who used a compression air wrench to remove the defected lug nuts, and replace them with those that I purchased. The mechanic who did the replacement work did not charge me for his work, having had the same problem with Ford. Regarding the on-line chat FMC, and their dismissal of my complaint, I took screen shots with my cell phone, Nd saved it to my picture file. If there is a Class Action Suit Log pending, I would like my name to be added to the list. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
When accelerating to merge on to a major highway, my truck lost power and went into “limp mode”. This caused rapid deceleration and I was nearly rear-ended by a semi-truck with my family in my truck. I had to slow to a stop on the shoulder and shut the engine off and back on to clear the faults and drive away. Error codes: hill start assist not available, hill descent control fault, and the service wrench and “see manual”. I also received the P2112 engine error code for throttle body stuck shut. This entire sequence repeated approximately 15 times before I could get it to the dealer and I was significantly reduced in my ability to accelerate (at all speeds) until it was fixed. This is a major safety issue and needs to be recalled immediately. Throttle bodies should not fail at 60k miles. Ford replaced my throttle body and the issue was corrected.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the low brake fluid warning light illuminated. The contact stated he was depressing the brake pedal to the floor but failed to stop the vehicle. The contact stated he had to shift gears to neutral and use the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The contact was able to continue driving the vehicle off the highway while experiencing the failure. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the master cylinder and power brake booster to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V332000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,387.
Ford used plastic oil pans for several years which do not have a gasket. A sealant (RTV) is used and fails at some point. This vehicle started minor leaking two years ago. Fast forward to 2023, after a dealer oil change, major leaking has occurred causing severe spotting under the vehicle requiring a drip pan underneath. The fluid level requires checking at every use. Also, the dealer is unable to obtain a new oil pan. (The old has to be thrown out.) All of this is substantiated by many many customers seeking answers and advice online. The dealer has said these pans are on backorder and have been for over a year. The latest arrival date could be May 18, 2023. There are answers FORD and the NHSTA need to address now. A Ford technical service bulletin was issued August 6, 2019, 19-2205. A production run of metal oil pans needs to be organized immediately to increase supply and alleviate the serious problem of vehicle malfunction or unable to use as designed. A RECALL should be initiated now. And, the price of replacement is over $1,100, labor and parts.
Exhaust manifold faulty at 80,000 miles.. Engine broke at 99,000
3.5L Ecoboost - Warped/broken exhaust manifold studs that is due to extreme heat produced by the twin turbos. There's no warning lights and by the time some symptoms starts developing, studs are probably broken or warped which causes a leakage prevents the manifold from properly dissipating the heat/exhaust which can possibly cause additional heat to be repelled back to the engine. Early signs could be a minor to moderate chirping sound that might radiate somewhere around the driver or front passenger lower console when accelerating while driving.
Chrome lugnuts swell and become damaged if removed
Most lug nuts were stripped and the shop had a difficult time removing them. I had to replace all with solid lug nuts to ensure I had no other issues. This was an additional cost of $239.28.
Saw a small puddle under passenger side engine, had the work mechanic look at it and he said the turbo cooling line was leaking. Car has only 45,000 miles on it. Took car to own mechanic and he verified leak, we decided to replace other side on left side of engine as there a bit of weeping, while they were replacing the parts, he noticed my water pump was leaking and I told him to replace it as we don't need any issues. After all work was performed, the bill was close to $2, 700. The mechanic said with the low mileage on the truck, it was way too soon for any of these parts to fail.
This seems to be a known issue with the f-150 engines. I am having issues with the engine making noises and appears to be caused by a warped engine exhaust manifold. Ford has released a safety bulletin on this, but has not issued a recall even from the amount of people that are experiencing this issue.
The transmission suddenly downshifts into first gear from 5th gear at higher speeds, causing a rapid loss of speed. The transmission also has hard shifts, the above problems have happened on several occasions. From safety standpoint the sudden downshift could cause a accident. There were no warning lamps or alarms. I have not had the truck inspected by anyone as it just happened. I have not taken it to a dealer.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle began to shake and lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over and restart the vehicle however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that there were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed but not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Engine failue. Yet another 2.7l V6 ecoboost that blew up. Known engine failure/design from Ford you are already investigating. Ford refused to cover new engine replacement cost (EVEN WHILE UNDER WARRANTY!). $10,000 out of pocket expense.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? While parked, the rear defrost button was engaged. Shortly afterwards (1-2min) the backseat filled with smoke. I had my family immediately exit the vehicle and the rear window exploded. I checked the area and found an electrical wire draped over the rear passenger seat. It was melted and had clearly exploded up and over the seat. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Yes, had my children remained in the vehicle, they would have been sprayed with glass or burned from the electrical short. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, however, I looked online and found this has happened to others. I called Ford service center and they informed me their were no recalls out on the truck. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. However, Glass doctor performed the repair since Ford outsources their glass repair work Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No
After vehicle warms up. There is a "shudder" in either the engine or the power train. It is random and makes the truck vibrate. RPM gauge also fluctuates.
2016 F150 47,000 miles. Rear glass shattered for no apparent reason, impairing rear vision. This is a known documented problem for thousands of owners have complained to Ford with no resolve unless it is under warranty.
Was driving about 60mph when I had sudden loss of power and vehicle RPMS shot up to 5000+ RPMS and gear selection indicator on dash started flashing 1st gear. No the vehicle was not in manual mode. This has happened several times before.
THE REAR WINDOW (NON SLIDING) IS SEVERELY LEAKING DURING HARD RAIN AND WHEN GOING THRU A CAR WASH. THE HEADLINER IS SOAKED AND THIS COULD BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE PROBLEM COULD CAUSE MILDEW AND MOLD UNDER THE HEADLINER WHICH COULD CAUSE BREATHING PROBLEMS TO INFANTS AND TODDLERS RIDING IN CAR SAFETY SEATS AS WELL AS OTHER PASSENGERS RIDING IN THE VEHICLE. i WOULD EXPECT FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO RECALL AND REPAIR ALL FORDS THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
Hello, Thank you for reviewing this issue. My 2016 F-150 would shift into neutral or 1st gear without warning, even at high speeds. This would cause the rear end to lock-up. Driving at highway speed, then it would go into neutral then into 1st then resume a higher gear. The drop to first required you to hang on, wet or slippery conditions made it dangerous. After a couple of trips to a dealer (without much help at all) and finally at an expert transmission shop (very helpful), we identified the internal transmission speed sensor and gear selection leadframe assembly failed, intermittent behavior resulted. This started about a year ago or two ago with rare and random flickering of gear selections, eventually becoming the issue described above. No codes were thrown until the problem got so severe (longer than 1 second failure) that the computer finally reported a code. The component, purchased with an entire valve assembly (because the part isn't available for 4-6 months) was replaced and the issue is gone. Feel free to call me. Exhaust manifolds both warped. Poorly designed and few studs near the end. Costly repair and very involved install.
Unknown which system is failing as Ford is unable to repair it. The truck codes include underpowered, turbo, catalytic converter, misfire. Truck cannot accelerate. Happens sporadically. The spark plugs, manifold, catalytic converter, brakes, rotors and turbo have all been replaced. Truck continues to have issues accelerating and running. At several points the cab of the truck filled with exhaust. Another point radiator fluid spewed all over under the hood. This truck is a threat to the health and safety of those driving it. The F150 forum states it is a common occurrence and the dealerships are replacing the same parts every few months and the problem never full resolves. Please recall this truck. The date below is when the problem started occurring but has been ongoing since.
My truck recently has begun to go into limp mode, the engine loses 98% power and runs so rough it shakes. This has happened multiple times at highway speeds in heavy traffic leaving me and passengers very vulnerable to a rear end collision. The first couple of times by shutting the engine off it allows me to reset the Hill descent fault and service advance trac warning. The truck would return to normal operations. Today (8/30/2021) after multiple shut downs in a 5 mile trip the check engine light came on too. I have scheduled a appointment at Middleton Ford in Middleton WI. for September 9th (the soonest available) The truck will be dropped off on Thursday (9/1/2021). Thank You for all you do! [XXX] PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while her son was driving 55 MPH, the driver’s side rear tire experienced a blowout. The driver pulled over to the side of the roadway and attempted to place the spare tire on the vehicle however, the driver was unable to remove the lug nuts. The driver had the vehicle towed to a local dealer, where the dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that the lug nuts were swollen. The dealer replaced the lug nuts with aftermarket lug nuts and mounted the spare tire on the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact was driving approximately 50 MPH, when the brake warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over and inspect the brake reservoir and noticed that it was empty. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V332000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,643.
I just purchased the vehicle, used, from Lithia Hyundai in Fresno, CA, two months ago. On my first trip to the lake hauling a boat in tow haul mode my check engine light came on. As soon as I got back I took it to the Lithia Ford Dealership in Fresno, CA to get it checked as I had also purchased the extended warranty on it. They found that the Turbo needed to be replaced, which was covered under the warranty. As they were fixing the turbo they found that it also had a warped exhaust manifold and broken bolt. The warranty is refusing to cover this as they say they DO NOT cover bolts and since the bolt broke (which they claim) and caused the manifold to warp they won't cover it. In doing my research, I am finding out that this is a very common issue with the 3.5 liter ecoboost and I feel that this should become a recall item. if the exhaust were to leak into the cab, that is a definite safety hazard and should be looked into. Why are the bolts breaking, and why are so many exhaust manifolds warping in the F-150s? It is still currently in the shop and I am fighting with both the shop and the warranty to get it fixed since it should be covered under my bumper to bumper warranty.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the independent mechanic for an oil change, a strange noise was coming from the rear of the vehicle. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with a faulty carrier bearing and the rear differential needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that they would not reimburse since the repairs were not performed at the dealer. The failure mileage was 57,492.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the tailgate would fall intermittently without warning. The contact stated that the tailgate fell and caused damage to his trailer. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 53,169. The VIN was invalid.
The electronic tailgate releases (opens) on its own either while the vehicle is in operation or while parked. This caused damage to the tailgate by an opening garage door and risks damage to traffic by the truck bed contents being expelled while underway. This defect has not been reported to a local dealer, manufacturer, police or insurance. There were no warnings, messages or other symptoms that preceeded the tailgate opening. This problem first happened approximately 08/01/2021 and has happened two more times since then during Aug 2021.
1. THE WIPERS WILL NOT SHUT OFF. i HAD T PULL THE FUSE TO GET THEM TO STOP. aS A RESULT, THE WIPERS LEFT SEVERAL SCRATCHES ACROSS MY WINDSHIELD MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. 2. THE DRIVERS SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT DOES NOT FULLY EXTENT TO THE FULL HEIGHT SIMILAR TO THE PASSENGER SEAL MAXIMUM HEIGHT. AS A SHORT PERSON THIS MIKJES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE OVER THE STEERING WHEEL. ADDITIONALY, THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS SEAT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS DO NOT WORK.
This is a 2016 Ecoboost 3.5 F150 built in Kansas City plant. The brake booster leaked and I lost brakes. This is a current recall but my VIN is not included. How can my truck, the same model and powertrain as those recalled, in the same time period, built in the same plant, with the exact same issue not be part of the recall? I nearly crashed... the mechanic at the Ford dealer knew exactly what it was - how - well clearly its a bigger issue than what has bene recalled!!!!
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal extended to the floor. Upon inspection, it was discovered that there was no brake fluid in the brake fluid reservoir. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the brake booster and brake master cylinder were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number 20V332000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 81,000.
I turned my defrost on in my 2016 ford f150, minutes after my truck smelt of burning wires and my rear glass shattered. There was no impact as i was still in my driveway.
