NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Ford F-150. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
My 2019 F-150, which has less than 60,000 miles, has a bent valve in the 2.7L EcoBoost engine. Bent valves are a known issue for this model engine that has led to a recall for similar engines. Despite being outside the 5-year warranty period, my vehicle is within the mileage limit that Ford sets as a marker for major issues. After contacting Ford Care to request they cover the cost of this premature failure, I waited for over a month to receive their offer. It was for about $4400 of a $10,000+ cost. The partial coverage offered is not sufficient given the circumstances. It's important for Ford to stand by its products and support customers facing problems due to manufacturing defects. Especially with engine models, like mine, that have had so many issues that the company no longer makes or uses that engine model. A recap: • The service advisor at Rick Ridings (my Ford service dealership in Monticello, IL) acknowledges that a vehicle with such low mileage should not have a bent valve and require such extensive, premature repairs. • I’ve found years of reports from other Ford owners in online forums talking about valve issues with this model engine. Early failures of the 2.7L EcoBoost engines were traced to fractured intake valves that caused significant engine damage. • Ford had a massive recall on EcoBoost 2.7L engines from 2021 to 2022 where the issues were with intake valves made from a material not being up to spec. • Today, Ford no longer uses this engine – a decision I'd guess was driven in part by the engine’s history of failure. • Overall, it’s a clear pattern of defects with the valves in the 2.7L EcoBoost engine. I simply want Ford to stand by the customers that buy their products when there appears to be evidence of a manufacturing defect that caused the issue at hand. All I want is the cost of the repair or replacement covered.
The truck periodically has hard upshifts and downshifts. This has occurred several times a month over the last 5 years.
Unexpected gear downshift, gears slamming into gear, gears not shifting properly
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle was started, and the contact noticed an abnormally loud sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed of the Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03, which had a similar failure description of the failure; however, the VIN was not included in the Customer Satisfaction Program. The contact was advised to contact the manufacturer to report the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
Loss of power steering resulting in steering gear needing to be replaced.
10 speed has harsh and delayed shifts. The delayed shifts has caused to vehicle to stall in traffic, unable to accelerate.
I've been having problems with the power train on the F150 10 speed transmission. There are times that the vehicle loses power and the engine speed drops to nearly zero. This has happened on several occasions while I'm driving into an intersection, or ongoing lane. The unexpected loss of acceleration is extremely dangerous as the oncoming vehicles aren't expecting my vehicle to come to a stop. I believe Ford is aware of this problem, yet nothing is being done to alleviate the issue. It can be an expensive repair. They would have to replace the PCM module and reprogram the vehicles electronics. They have offered up alternative fixes, but none of them seem to work and the alternative fix can be expensive to the consumer. The problem started far in advance before my warranty ran out and yet Ford would deny the problem and I couldn't get any Ford dealer to remedy the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
The vehicle while driving at all speeds is exhibiting harsh/delayed engagement and/or harsh/delayed shifting. i have completed the recommended service of the software update to the PCM however the vehicle continues to have harsh engagement, delayed engagement, harsh shifting and delayed shifting.
I bought pre owned 2019 f150 5.0 with the 10 speed transmission. The truck didn’t even make it home from the dealer. Transmission was leaking fluid and lights came on. Shift would go from 10th to 1st gear.
Cam Phaser and Timing Chain Failures in 5.0 V8 engine cause engine failure if not repaired. Engine failure potentially puts myself and/or my family stranded on the side of the road. This problem has been repaired one time approximately 30k miles ago and has returned. No check engine light related to this failure.
The transmission over revs between 3rd and 4th gear. It hesitates then loses power, then slams into the next gear. Once in 10th gear it hesitates when trying to pass other vehicles. When decending hills it quickly jumps to second gear causing the wheels to skip or bounce for a few seconds. When merging onto the highway the hesitation nearly got me rearended. The transmission shop is updating the software and changing the fluid. He said most of these need rebuilt when this happens. Ford told me its a new type of transmission and that I will "get use to it". Repair or replacement is anywhere from $4,000 to $9,000, yet ford keeps selling this defective product. There are no indicator / warning lights.
The truck has a 10 speed transmission it randomly shift gears and something the truck will not accelerate and jump from 1st to 5 or 4th and when going down the highway goes from 10th gear to 1st gear.i was told by Ford to report this. That is a recall for this issue but my truck was not issued one.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel injectors had failed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
We have a 2019 Ford F150 with the 10R80 transmission which gave out on the freeway, it was doing a hard knock when shifting and would make a clicking noise at start up. Heading north on I25, the truck sputtered and you could see white smoke coming out the back end. We were towing a 7x10 trailer and it had fluid spewed all over it. It lost power so we had to pull to the side of the freeway and wait to be towed. There was a lot of fluid leaking from under the truck as well. Had it towed to a shop and they were stumped about what it could be. Had it towed to another shop but a transmission shop and they stated it needed a new transmission, we have the go ahead, and after replacing it, we picked it up and headed home. About a half hour later, the new transmission gave out, the key symbol popped up and it shuddered. Had to have it towed back to the transmission shop. They were stumped as to what happened. We were told they had to consult a national transmission shop and that Ford did not want to replace it with another transmission. The transmissions and engines on these 2019 Ford F150s we have as company vehicles are prone to so many issues that are costly. We have three 2019 F150s, one 2023 F150. So far on one of the 2019, we have had to replace a transmission and engine. The other one had the transmission replaced. The third one is on its way out, there is a rattling sound it makes when it is on its way to failing. How are there so many documentations and Ford is not willing to recall them? Or even meet halfway to repairing them when it is obviously a manufacture defect? A Ford problem? Attached are the receipts showing how much money we dumped into this truck. Mind you, we had the engine replaced in this one too :(
10R80 Transmission downshift from 4-3 hard. Put in reverse hesitate then hard engagement.
Last week I traveled from Wichita Kansas to Tulsa Oklahoma. On the way back on the highway. the rear wheels locked up and the transmission began revving up but the vehicle was slowing down. The vehicle then revved down and was still slowing down. I pulled over on the shoulder briefly and then drove to gas station less than a mile away. Left vehicle off and got gas. Drove around parking lot and vehicle seemed fine. We did make it home without any other issues. I saw where your agency is looking into this problem for 2015-2017. It seems to be affecting the 2019 as well
Unexplained downshifting
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the engine made a rattling sound. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the cam phasers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 (Cam Phaser Replacement); however, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
1st safety problem is while accelerating, there is a rough shift in gears despite being an automatic transmission. While attempting to gradually and safely accelerate, vehicle causes an abrupt deceleration where rpms drop and vehicle occupants are thrown forward during the process. Vehicle was brought to Ford Dealership for repair. They noted a known issue with transmission and completed a software restart/update. Vehicle gear shift improved slightly for short period of time but eventually resumed and is noticeably worse in colder months. This problem has been noticed while turning, resulting in near misses with oncoming traffic and is concerning when entering/merging with traffic at highway speeds. There were no dashboard warning light indicators at any point. Battery was in good condition. 2nd concern: Engine fire ups up on start but stalls while idling when shifting out of park as well as in stopped traffic. "Auto startstop, shift to P, then restart engine" notification presents on gauge display. This requires multiple attempts to get vehicle restarted with following notification instructions and shutting off/restarting engine. Disengaging auto startstop on startup is inconclusive about remedying the situation. Battery was tested as good but replaced anyway due to age to rule out battery related concerns. Contacted Ford dealership service department and they replied, "they have never heard of it happening." They denied knowledge of any TSB, CSP or recalls/complaints about the issue. However, it appears this issue is well documented on multiple Ford models and various production years. Other than instrument/gauge display of "Auto startstop, shift to P, then restart engine" occurring after the fact, there is no warning light indicators. Safety is at risk due to stoppage of traffic and loss of power/ability to accelerate or maneuver vehicle in traffic situations to include clearing intersections with oncoming traffic while turning at low speeds/idling.
Transmission failure.. hard jerking and downshifting.. almost caused me to wreck while driving down the highway.. transmission skips gears and downshifting and almost brought me to a complete stop on the highway
Transmission is slipping. Into 3/4 & 7/8
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the engine made an abnormal rattling sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the cam phasers had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
Driving at 45mph and 55 mph the trucks transmission gets confused on which gear to be in and up shifts then down shifts back and forth then downshifts 2 gears and locks up the rear wheels and causes a uncontrollable lock up and skid
2019 Ford F150 began hard shifting and disengaging. I contacted the service center and was advised that it adaptive learning. Within a week while driving the transmission completely failed while driving. Dealership states a new transmission is needed. There was no warning nor lamps or messages that appeared prior to the failure.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH on two occasions, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to 1st gear and the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of road and turned off. The contact stated that the vehicle was restarted within an hour and drove normally to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.
I have a 2019 f-150 Platinum . Bought it 4 months ago and I've put about 9,000 miles on it and the transmission is going out from what the dealer told me. I bought it from the same dealer that told me what's wrong with it. It shuts off in the middle of changing gears while driving down the road. It's happened 4 times. It's very unsafe. The service department at the dealership said something's going on with the admissions that could cuase it to vaper-lock shut down. They estimated the job to cost eight thousand dollars, which I don't have. It had139,000 when I bought it frome them
Transmission shifting drags out in some gears and shifts very hard, and slips at times. The truck has died while shifting three time on the highway, once in heavy traffic. The gear indicator has went from 10th gear to 1st gear while slipping on the freeway.
Rear view camera used to glitch when put in reverse. Now it goes completely black (or blue) when vehicle is in reverse. There was a recall on this involving 2021 and newer models but I believe this problem goes back even further. Because it’s a truck, I have a huge blind spot in the back when reversing and I worry mostly about a potential accident involving property, persons, or even my own children. It’s very unsafe. I want to note that I was in contact with Ford Customer Service but they said that my vehicle wasn’t covered under the recall and that there was nothing they can do for me.
During acceleration the transmission will fail to engage during different gear changes. The motor will high rev as it is a failed transmission shift which, it is just that.
Transmission had hard shifts, sticking gears and sudden down shifts. Multiple times the vehicle had gotten stuck in 7th gear. Vehicle had hard shift and delayed shifting while accelerating. On one occasion the vehicle suddenly shifted from 4th gear to 2nd while accelerating. Vehicle is currently in shop due to the danger of driving. These issues have almost caused multiple accidents. We are told we need a new transmission and there are only about 72,000 miles on it.
My 2019 Ford F150 XLT, began having transmission issues in June of 2024 around the same time the cam phasers failed in the engine (~57K miles). Because the cam phaser failure was the more pressing and unavoidable issue, the dealership focused on the cam phaser repair and ignored my complaints about the transmission shifting hard between 2nd and 4th gear. Within that same month I also had the transmission fluid flushed ~40K miles before recommendation to see if that would resolve the hard and inconsistent shifting issue. It did not, and the dealer stated they could not replicate the problem. Unfortunately the problem became worse, including inconsistent shifting between multiple gears, the transmission "stalling" while it tried to determine which gear to shift to, along with extremely hard "whiplash-like" shifting into gears. These driving conditions resulted in me almost being rear ended several times while trying to enter onto the interstate as cars were accelerating behind me on the on-ramp, while my truck begins a quick deceleration due to missing gears, downshifting and even spinning in a "neutral-like" state while it tries to figure out what gear to shift into. After a couple more visits to the dealership, in which their scanners could not replicate my issues, I was sent on my way to keep driving an unsafe vehicle until either it caused an accident or my transmission completely failed. Fortunately for others, it was the latter situation in which my transmission failed (1st time a warning light appeared) in a hospital parking garage on March 6, 2025, versus me causing an accident. However, all of this could have been avoided if Ford and my local dealership addressed the known issues with the 10R80 10-speed transmission in the 2017-2020 Ford F150 and many other models. The $13K repair bill now that Ford pushed me beyond my powertrain warranty aside, this Ford transmission is EXTREMELY dangerous to the driver and the general public.
I purchased this truck about a year ago. After two oil changes, the cam phasers began to rattle on startup. It has the 3.5l Ecoboost engine. This is a known problem and there have been tsb's but they come and go during short windows. The cam phasers were finally updated in 2021 but some people have paid thousands in and out of warranty, some multiple times before the issue is fixed. Ford says they are just a noise and do not cause any issues but the resale is directly effected whether private party or trade in (repair typically costs between $4-7500). Mine started making noise at 89,000 miles. Some people go years with the engine rattling and others have check engine lights and engine issues a shirt time after it begins. Ford knows it is a problem and the customer service sometimes will assist with the cost and other times they tell people to file a complaint here to finally get a recall going. The repair is in depth and typically requires the removal of the cab from the frame, making it likely that everything won't be reassembled correctly.
Transmission with no prior issues started to delay shift and have a hard time shifting through gears then would skip gears and get stuck in gears cause the truck to harshly stall and jerk, front collision warning randomly coming on just going down the road
My 2019 F150 has transmission issues that concern me about the safe operation of my vehicle. The transmission it was built with is a 10R80. Transmission frequently slips and clunks into gear. The main areas of concern are 2-3 clunk 3-4 slip and 6-7 slip. The CDF drum has had NUMEROUS issues on MANY vehicles that have the 10R80 transmission. This has been a very common issue with the 10R80. When is the NHTSA going to force Ford to issue a recall ???? This has happened with too many vehicles with a 10r80 transmission to not warrant a recall. I entered 3/04/25 as a date this occurred but it is still ongoing.
My transmission experienced the same issue that has affected millions of trucks. The transmission started downshifting from 10th to 1st gear while driving. I had it inspected at my local dealer and they informed me that it was a common issue with the clutch drum sleeve. It just cost me $6200.00 dollars to have it fixed. I only had 86,000 miles on the truck. I dont know how thete is not a recall on this, it's dangerous , if I was on the highway this could have caused me to cause and accident either die or get severely injured myself or even other drivers. Please look into this, this issue is beyond ridiculous and dangerous.
I purchased a 2019 F150 through Imperial Chevy in Mendon, MA in 2022. Technical Service Bulletin 19-2365 had been issued on 05 December 2019 and the dealer did not disclose or address the issue prior to sale. The truck has had regular oil changes every year and then check engine light came on - Code P0630 Camshaft Position Sensor B circuit. Ford service diagnosed scoring in the cylinders and verified that it has the excessive oil consumption issue. Solution is total engine replacement. Ford corporate has so far denied the claim and refused to offer financing for $12,000+ repair. Having approved many other claims for the same issue, they are now requiring Ford service to do a teardown before considering whether to pay for this known issue. This truck currently isn't be driven more than a few miles a day to and from work. We bought this truck to haul a full size two horse trailer which we haven't done as we are afraid to further tax the transmission and/or run the truck out of oil inadvertently since the oil gauge does not give warning that the oil is low - instead the truck throws a P0390 code. Ford must be held responsible for paying for repair. I can provide extensive paperwork if necessary. This is a known issue that Ford is refusing to remedy and any F150 experiencing this issue must be recalled immediately.
Vehicle changes gear from 10-1 at highway speeds, transmission begins to overheat, looses power when going from 1st gear to third gear after a stop at a light or stop 🛑 sign. I’ve had several near miss accidents in the past month. Ford will not offer any assistance or fix the problem for a vehicle with 104,000
Vehicle shuts off randomly when the StopStart feature is disabled/turned off via button in dashboard. The instrument panel displays message on dash saying: “Auto StopStart, Manual Restart, Required” And “Auto StopStart, Shift to P, Then Restart engine” This often happens in the middle of an intersection where I risk being hit by another vehicle. This has happened on multiple occasions. Dealership was unable to recreate problem so unfortunately nothing was repaired. There are many online forums discussing this very same problem.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The engine warning light was illuminated when the oil level was extremely low. Upon research, the contact associated the failure with TSB: 19-2365 (Excessive Oil Consumption). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The local dealer was contacted and suggested a diagnostic test to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000. The VIN was not available.
Transmission failure. Transmission problems began with the having a significant delay in shifting when cold. This resulted in a safety concern when pulling out into traffic and the vehicle would stop moving. As the problem worsened shift points got harder and the truck computer would show that it was shifting from a high gear to first gear at highway speeds. A reputable transmission shop inspected the vehicle and removed the transmission. They confirmed that a sleeve or bushing in the CDF drum had moved and disrupted oil flow to the clutch packs.
The transmission began having issues shifting/changing gears at the beginning of March. The gears don't engage correctly, the truck doesn't move, then all of a sudden jerks into position. Very dangerous at the start of a light or turn as the car seems to go; then all of a sudden will not shift and is just stuck in the road. Similar danger when on the highway alongside traffic and the transmission does not easily or smoothly shift, making the truck lose momentum. It is most noticeable in the lower gears. The jerking motion of the truck when it finally catches, or shifts, is quite harsh and abrupt for the truck and driver. There is clunking noise when this happens. The warning lights did not come on prior to the issue or during the initial onset of the issue. It did come on as the condition worsened. The problem is noted with other Ford owners with the same 10R80 transmission. The dealer has inspected and witnessed the issue. Suggested full replacement of the transmission with an new CDF, so the issue doesn't recur. Just outside of the 5yr powertrain( but was within the mileage) so they will not cover any of the cost. If we replace the transmission, it is only guaranteed for two years. Attached is the diagnostic report and options to repair. They have the new, improved transmission in stock.
The contact's son owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon start the vehicle, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the front-end of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with faulty cam phasers. The contact was informed that the cam phasers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact discovered Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03; which was linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
My transmission has been in the shop at Ford four times. It’s clunking between gears. They can’t seem to fix the issue.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000.
A year ago we took our Truck in because it was knocking, we were told it was dry starting and they had to repair it, it was 5200. A couple weeks ago we’re driving and it started shifting funny and jerking, had no get up and go, we limped to the nearest dealership. Told our transmission went out and it will cost 11k.
The transmission has been slipping on multiple occasions between 3rd and 4th gear, changing gears very harshly and sometimes forcing the vehicle to speed up rapidly and unexpectedly. It has also caused the vehicle to slow down rapidly, trying to find a certain gear then shifting back down to 1st gear randomly while driving in traffic. I barely have 70,000 miles on the truck.
Hard up shifting and downshifting. When rapid deceleration at highway speeds transmission harshly downshifted and caused rear tires to skid during icy conditions. Hard/erratic down shifting conditions during icy conditions caused rear end to break loose during uphill climbs. Truck would downshift with loud clunk and drop from 9th gear into 4th or 5th gear and jump RPMs to 3k or more and then shift back to normal over drive gears. Truck is current on ford 23-2250 TSB
During normal operation, the truck 2019 (F150) with 70,000 miles transmission (10R80) shifts through gears erratically, sometimes goes into neutral unexpectedly and motor revs up transmission engages, truck lunges forward hard causing whiplash. A orange warning light is displayed in the shape of a wrench in the dash display. This warning light says to see manual. The final result was transmission failure and taken to FORD dealer
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact had received a recall notification for cam phaser failure and the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that approximately 3 years after the vehicle was repaired, the contact became aware of a loud rattling sound coming from the front of the vehicle, near the engine compartment. There were no warning lights illuminated. The dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the vehicle could not be repaired a second time under the recall free of charge. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 99,600.
The contact owned a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 35 -40 MPH and veering to the right, both tires hit the curb causing both tires to blow out. The steering wheel jerked to the right and the vehicle's front end landed into an embankment. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. A police report was filed. The contact sustained an injury of the compressed fracture of the L1 vertebra with fracture, bruises across the neck, and abdomen. Medical attention was needed. The dealer was not contacted. The contact stated immediately after they began receiving text alerts of air bag failure and were disabled via the vehicle app. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000.
