NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Ford F-150. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle vibrated abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the tires were rotated. The contact took the vehicle back to the residence; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure became a recurring failure, and the contact parked the vehicle at the residence. The contact stated that the vehicle was no longer driven due to the safety concerns. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
2019 F-150 experienced harsh shifting between gears causing a severe jerking. The truck also would experience delayed shifts causing loss of ability to accelerate in intersections. On the highway, the vehicle sometimes down shifted unexpectedly from 10th gear to 1st gear causing the truck to lose power slowing to dangerous speeds on a highway. The truck would display "Powertrain Malfunction/ Reduced Power" alert. Vehicle experienced this malfunction multiple times and is now currently at the dealership for repairs since 03/26/25. Dealership diagnosed the problem as a failed transmission.
Transmission rebuild at 58000 miles
My transmission suffered the CDF drum failure which resulted in it downshifting into first gear while doing over 55 mph. The failure was confirmed by the Ford Dealership after taking it in. The truck now needs a $9000 transmission replacement to replace the drum and clutches that were destroyed.
Transmission slips and misses gears so bad it has almost caused 3 accidents in the last month. Ford knows of this problem with the 10r80 transmission but will not fix the problem. I've contacted ford and they say there is no recall for my truck.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated, and the message "Low Oil" was displayed, and the vehicle failed to properly accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine was damaged due to low oil; however, the extent of the damage was not yet determined. The contact was informed that the vehicle was manufactured with the incorrect size oil dip stick. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 108,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact had received notification of an undisclosed recall. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the recall was repaired, and a software update was performed. The contact stated that on the same day, while driving approximately 20 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer, and DTC: P0430 was retrieved. The mechanic also advised the contact that a catalytic converter cleaner should be added. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure reoccurred approximately one week later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The 10 speed transmission failed at 30k miles and they replaced it. Now at 70k it is failing again. It is available for inspection now. My families safety was at risk when the shifting fails while crossing an intersection or when violently downshifting while cruising at 40mph. The problem has been reproduced by the dealer. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than Ford dealership and my mechanic. At 70k there have been no warning lights or messages displayed on the console.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 MPH, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the check engine and low oil pressure warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle and the vehicle was towed to a dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that recently the cam phasers on the vehicle were replaced. The contact stated that the cam phasers had been replaced twice. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
Truck decelerates while on incline. Engine light did come on. Took Car to Bill Brown Ford dealership. has been at dealer since 2/12/25. Code P0305 due to low compression on cylinder #5 110 PSI, #4 121psi all others at 145-150 psi. was informed necessary to replace long block. The truck was purchased with extended service warranty thru Ford ESP. warranty lists engine replacement is covered. however, ESP not covering it. Research on internet states frequent issues with 2.7 liter ecoboost 2019 Ford F150 has common issues with the cylinders requiring engine replacement
The APIM becomes inoperative at random times for ~8 hours. When this happens the entire dashboard goes black and you can’t tell your speed, turn signals, rpm, engine temp, oil pressure, etc. You are driving with no indicators and have no idea what your speed is or any other critical indication. APIM stands for Accessory Protocol Interface Module, also known as the Ford SYNC computer. It's a key component of the SYNC system in Ford vehicles. Ford has equipped vehicles with the APIM since its inception, but there have been complaints and recalls related to it.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated, and an egg-like odor was present during start-up. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who diagnosed that the catalytic converter was faulty. The catalytic converter was reprogrammed, but the failure reoccurred. The catalytic converter was reprogrammed a second time and then eventually replaced. Later, the check engine light illuminated, and the contact was informed that the second catalytic converter was faulty. No further information was available. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 57,346.
I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious transmission defect that has developed in my vehicle. The transmission exhibits repeated and worsening malfunctions, including surging, hesitation, jerking, lunging, and slipping between gears. These defects substantially impair my ability to operate the vehicle safely, create an unreasonable risk of collision, and endanger the safety of passengers, pedestrians, and other motorists. This matter requires immediate attention due to the significant safety risks posed. The transmission system of the vehicle has failed and exhibits repeated malfunctions, including surging, hesitation, jerking, lunging, and slipping between gears. The vehicle and its transmission remain available for inspection upon request. The transmission failure places both the operator and the public at significant risk by causing sudden, unintended, and unpredictable vehicle movements. These malfunctions substantially impair the driver’s ability to maintain safe control of the vehicle, creating an elevated risk of collision and endangerment to passengers, pedestrians, and other motorists. The failure was reproduced and confirmed by an authorized Ford dealership during the first week of August. The dealership initially attempted a transmission reflash procedure at a cost of $280, which failed to remedy the defect. Approximately two weeks later, following illumination of the wrench warning indicator on the dashboard, the vehicle was returned to the dealership where it was formally confirmed that the transmission is failing. (Oct 17, 2024 completed a Transmission Flush with 86,962 miles) Note: My son has a 2019 F150 as well with 77K miles and his truck is starting to have the same issues.
The transmission is falling out of gear at random times including when going up hills or when merging onto the interstate. Other times it revs up and won’t switch at all only to slam into gear. Most problems with shifting occur around the 3rd and 4th gear.
Transmission issues. Sporatically, a wrench would appear on the dash board. (Usually when it was heated.) When accelerating, the truck would stall, safety, yes was a problem. it would shift with a kick back and the engine would reve up, then maybe shift or just stall. the cabin would smell of burnt gas.
The Cam phasers in my truck malfunctioned at 72K miles. The failure would cause the vehicle to stall while driving. The dealership replaced them for $4945.26. The dealership would have the broken components. No warning light or malfunction light appeared.
I own a 2019 Ford F150 in mid 2023 I noticed my truck would jerk when 1st starting out. Ford said it was normal for the type of transmission that it has a 10 speed .. fast forward Feb 2025 starting hearing this thumping noise underneath when getting to speed at 50 mph or higher and within a week dropped the truck off to be told transmission has to be replaced that all components are no good so can't be rebuilt. Seeing there is an class action lawsuit for this same transmission in Illinois.
Transmission failure, unhealthy engine burning/consuming oil, emissions system/catalytic converter failure all before 100,000 miles.
Since 2021 my rear view camera has been intermittently working. It is Sept of 2019 build. It seems it was just before the recalls for 20C19/20V575. The dealer has offered to charge me to look at it but it falls extremely close to the recalls for the other cameras.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while turning left at slow speeds, there was an abnormal sound coming from the driver’s side of the vehicle before the vehicle stalled. An unknown message was displayed. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The failure had gotten progressively worse. The contact stated that on a separate occasion while driving in stop and go traffic, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the cam phasers had failed. The contact had the spark plugs and alternator replaced. No other repairs were performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.
Was driving at highway speeds when transmission unexpectedly shifted from 10th gear into first gear. It lurched the truck back hard, almost losing control. Speed was decreased and then brought back to 70mph. This is then when the truck shifted back from first into 10th held at 10th for a little bit and then did it again shifting from 10th into 1st lurching the truck back. The service light from the transmission came on after this. I pulled over and looked under the truck and saw it leaking transmission fluid. I then turned the truck off and on and put it back into gear and tried reverse, it didn’t go into reverse so I tuned it off and on again and reverse came back. I had the truck towed to a dealership where they inspected the transmission and replaced parts in it. After being there for 2 months waiting on the parts I finally got it back. I know Ford has had investigations in the past for the 6 speeds transmissions unexpectedly shifting. And I now know they’re being investigated again for newer models in the 6 and 10 speed transmissions.
Transmission fail at 81,000 miles ..need new transmission .. 10R80 model have issues with CDF drum ,outer shell, valve bodies, torques converter and gear driven pump issues . It is a known issue but will not address the costly repair cost to consumer .
The vehicle steering wheel turns by itself, without warning, causing me to fight the steering wheel to maintain proper control and direction. I reported the issue to my mechanic and had him inspect and paid $129 to have a full alignment. After a road test, the problem still exists. The mechanic deemed the problem as "dangerous to drive". After contacting ford the recall referenced 24S45. supposedly Ford has yet to come up with a fix.
Transmission randomly shifts into 1st when going 55mph and then slams back into 9th gear after engine revs to redline. Has happened 4 times the past couple months.
Traveling at 75 MPH with cruise control on the transmission shifted into 1st gear. I slowed down and reset the cruise control to 65MPH. A couple of minutes later the transmission again shifted into 1st gear. This happened after driving for about an hour. There is no recall on my F-150. WHY NOT? Thank you for your help.
Evidently there is a problem with the CDF clutch cylinder. There is a bushing that will slip and can cause delayed or rough transitioning into gears. This is on the 10R80 transmission according Ford. We had no idea of this issue till we brought our truck in to Ford to have the system flushed. Which then the service tech asked had we had any issues and we said it has a delay when shifting into gears sometimes as well as when we put it in reverse it seems like it doesn't fully engage and and then when it does engage it is like a jolt and the truck goes at a faster pace since we was pressing the gas thinking we did not give it enough gas to go into reverse. Multiple times my wife has said that it does this when she is backing out of our driveway into the road also while she is backing out of her parking space at school. What is bad is there are no warning lights on the truck for this issue. There are multiple recalls on this transmission that involve updating the computer settings for the trasmission but the real issue is they have not done a recall for this issue which would stop the bushing from sliding causing the delayed/harsh shifts. Since this is an engineering design issue and potential Hazzard while drive this should be a manufacture recall. Ford has already resigned the cylinder in 2022 to address this issue but anything manufactured before that is suppect.
vehicle started @ around -15 F, drove it for 15 minutes, parked and turned it off. 90 minutes later with temps around -5 to -10 F it would not turn over. Messages on dash included : full accessory power available, and something about a steering assist fault. Jumping battery did not help. Vehicle hauled to shop. Shop disconnected battery and reconnected it and vehicle started. Fault codes were cleared and vehicle ran without creating new fault codes. If this fault had occurred in the middle of nowhere without assistance available the computer going into no start mode when the battery was not dead could easily have resulted in death from the cold weather. The vehicle computer should have a reset option which can be triggered by any operator.
The contact's son-in-law owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal clicking sound coming from the engine. The contact stated that there was an abnormal exhaust odor entering the cab. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle and became aware that the exhaust manifold bolts were fractured. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was determined that the manifold and bolts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was contacted, and a claim was filed with the manufacturer. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle remained at the residence and had not been driven since. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.
The backup camera on my F150 starting glitching and would not display a clear picture of what was behind the vehicle. Below is what was on the invoice: C/S VEHICLE'S BACKUP CAMERA INOP. THE SCREEN IS BLANK WHEN IN REVERSE.CHECK AND ADVISE 24E12 POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE PCM REPROGRAMMING 2 new wiring harnesses and the control reprogramming came to about $1200. In my opinion, failure of a backup camera is a safety critical item. Failure such as this is no different than a sensor going bad- actually worse as visibility is non-existent.
The truck delays with automatic shifting and stalls. It will go from 10th down to 1st. This is extremely dangerous and we were quoted 7,000 for repairs. It's a 2019 with 60,000 miles! It should NOT be doing this.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle started to jerk and stalled while in fifth gear and depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, weeks after the repair, the clutch was replaced. The contact was informed that a sensor in the transmission was replaced; however, a week later the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the contact was informed that the catalytic convertor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 137,000.
The transmission in the vehicle does not match the life of an average vehicle, especially a modern one. Even with good maintenance and driving habits a transmission beginning to fail around 120,000 miles is absurd. With a failing transmission you have no idea what will happen on the road, when the gears slip and you beginning to max out RPMs and it trying to figure it self out, this could easily cause an accident or a fire under the hood putting everyone around you at risk and the warning lamp didn’t appear until after the event . I have been quoted by the dealer for a total transmission replacement at around 12000 dollars which is well over half the value of the vehicle. I know that this has been a recurring issue with many F150s with this transmission and recall on this part needs to happen.
On several occasions since I bought the truck new it has experienced hard transmission downshifts for no reason. Had the truck to Ford and they couldn't replicate the problem so nothing was done to fix it.
I have a 2019 f150, 5.0 w/ 10r80 trans. The vehicle will slip from 7 gear to 1st. 10th to 2nd, and some times just finds itself in neutral with no propelling motion. This happens. While driving, when taking off from a stop. Causing hard jerking and extreme discomfort to me and my passengers. Ford says no recall and to replace the trans. Seeing 100s and f complaints (I’m sure it would be more of people understood hot to report) and NHTSA says they don’t see an issue or need for a recall is unacceptable. Does it take a major accident or someone to get hurt from FORDs outright disregard to fix the issue. Built ford tough is long gone and forgotten. NHTSA is now letting down the consumer, and the people on the road for the disregard for safety and holding these car manufacturers accountable. Do better, recall the 10r80 and make ford pay. Or is ford paying the NHTSA to disregard this multi million dollar fix.
Truck transmissions slams in 2nd and 7th gear causing truck to jerk losing control in wet conditions. It gets worst when put in wet / snow setting. It has also loss gear while trucks rpms increased. Causing no forward momentum when pulling out into traffic. Causing traffic problems. Almost hit twice. Reported to Dave Smith ford 4045 transit road williamsville ny 14221.
When coasting from approximately 30 to 20 mph vehicle will hard downshift from gears 4,3, 2. On the highway, when I need to accelerate to avoid other vehicles that are driving unsafe I will step on the accelerator and transmission will hesitate. Has been more than one occasion when transmission has hestited, hard shifted to different level and has at one occasion randomly shifted to first gear before jumping back to 8th. This appears to be a common issue with Ford's 10R80 transmissions.
2019 F-150 with 3.5L GTDI engine. Cam phasers required to be replaced on truck with 52,000 miles on it. Repair bill of $4800. Ford issued Customer Satisfaction Program ("CSP") notices 21B10 and 21N03 for Ford F-150s manufactured between 2017-2020 equipped with the 3.5L GTDI engine manufactured in Dearborn, Michigan or Kansas. A copy is attached. Under these CSPs, Ford paid for up to 100% of the repair cost, plus 1-day rental vehicle, for owners with vehicles with up to 69,999 miles on them. Ford has refused to apply the CSP to my truck, despite it only having 52,000 miles, because they say the CSP did not apply to my VIN. However, my truck is the same make, model, engine type and manufacturing location as identified in the CSP, and I have the EXACT same engine issue as described in the CSP. I did not receive any letter or recall notice from Ford regarding this issue and they expect me to pay $4,800 to get my truck back from the dealership simply because the CSP "didn't attach to my VIN." It's not a coincidence that my truck has the EXACT same characteristics and engine problem as identified in the CSP. But while thousands of consumers with THE SAME TRUCK had this repair 100% covered by Ford, I have to pay $4,800.
10R80 transmission is failing for the second time since vehicle was purchased new (special order) from Ford Motor Company. Once at 36,000 miles and again at 75,000 miles. Based upon information and belief the CDF drum is to blame. Among other commonly exhibited issues the transmission is randomly and unexpectedly failing to move the vehicle when in traffic, when trying to merge into traffic, and when trying to safely navigate an intersection ... creating a hazardous condition for myself and other motorists. With so many 2018+ F150 vehicles having the same transmission issue, when is NHTSA going to do something about it?!
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that there was water inside the driver's side rear taillight, causing a malfunction of the rear brake lights. The contact stated that the brake lights were flickering. Additionally, the heater, radio, and the defroster were inoperable. The front windows also failed to roll down as needed. The air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the taillight module had malfunctioned due to the water. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and filed a claim. The failure mileage was approximately 134,000.
When pressing the gas pedal to accelerate , the truck will not accelerate rather it begins to rev the engine loudly (as if the gas pedal was being pushed while the truck is in neutral) the RPM shoots high to 6-7 (again the truck isn’t accelerating any faster just loudly revving,) then the truck jolts as if it has just been rear ended. The shifting is stuttering staying stuck in 3rd and 4th gear severing going back to 1 even at a stop. Vehicle messaging alerted 1/10/25 powertrain malfunction /reduced power . However this issues has been going on and Ford Said it was related to a 4x4 control module which was replaced and yet the issues continue. Brought it back to ford because the problem was not fixed and they are asking for payment of additional diagnostic testing and NOW saying it’s a transmission issue AFTER saying it was issue with the control module unit. Work was completed 10/2024 at Ford
My 2019 F150 is equipped with the 10speed transmission and as I see recalls for the same issue I do not have one for my vehicle. The transmission is jumping gears, hard knock/shift into gear and at times refuses to go into gear at acceleration
Fords 10R80 transmission has had known issues that are safety defeats and for years Ford has lied to me that there is nothing wrong with the 10R80 transmission. That they were " Characteristic of the transmission" to avoid fixing the problem under warranty. May 26 2023 Ford released a TSB acknowledging the known issues with the 10R80. (TSB 22-2428 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT Automatic Transmission - Harsh/Delayed Engagement And/Or Harsh/Delayed Shift - Built On Or Before 23-Dec-2022) But as Ford is aware most vehicles are out of Factory Warranty and many lost the whole year of warranty because of the lock down of 2020 ( which Ford didn't give us credit for) so the repair was issued as a TSB then a recall to avoid paying for this repair. The repair is around $7000.00 and Ford now expects customer to pay half to all of this repair for defective and unsafe parts they failed to address when these vehicles were under factory warranty. My vehicle alone was in and out of dealership over 18 time regarding all of these transmission issues like many others. This need to be a recall not a TSB, and Ford needs to address this issues on they dime, not the consumer they lied to for years about this problem.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware that there was a fracture under the Ford emblem on the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected. The contact was informed that the front driver's side air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was advised to contact the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact referenced Technical Service Bulletin: 10207126; however, the vehicle was not covered under the TSB. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
The Transmission failed. Before the mechanical light went on. As I was driving the vehicle it was having issues switching gears. And at times would loose power and then rev up and speed up. Loss of power and speeding up is a dangerous and frightening situation in a vehicle going at any speed and even more so while traveling on a highway. I had the vehicle towed to the nearest Ford dealership. In speaking with the service manager they recommended replacing the transmission due to the error codes that were produced in the computer. They stated that this was a common issue in this make and model and a replacement would be the best option to avoid future issues. And after researching the issue online there are many people having this same issue. It’s a $10,000 fix and FORD is aware of it and yet there still is no recall on the failure in these transmissions!! Error codes P2703; P2705; P0767
Had new transmission for a little over a month still shifts bad. Same thing as orignal transmission.
The vehicle shifted from drive to neutral by itself while driving at high speeds on an expressway, unable to accelerate for a short period of time, and then shifted back to gear by itself with the driver almost losing control of the vehicle. At low speeds, several times, the vehicle also shifted erratically between gears, such 1 to 4, 7 to 2 and then back 6 etc.
Rough idle engine noise at stop, engine stalls out and dies. No check engine lights present, Auto start/stop system light comes on indicating its disabled and to shift to park and restart engine.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. No warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, occasionally, while shifted into drive, the transmission failed to shift as intended. The dealer was made aware of the failure several times; however, the contact was informed that the repair was not covered under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that the failure was a known failure with similar vehicles. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Transmission shifts erratically, especially in 3rd, 5th, and 7th, as well as all the od gears. Mechanic shop says its very likely CDF drum failure as this is a very common issue around 70,000 miles. In fact, this is so common he recommends everyone with this issue to report it here so there can be a record and possible recall soon.
Wiper transmission corroded and seized causing it to burn out my wiper motor. Fixed and looked at by local ford dealer and issue is the seized wiper transmission but not under the recall numbers for the same issue in other f150 (2015-2020 f150 assembled in Canada) which mine is. How can I get reimbursed for the cost which should be covered under that recall.
