NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2020 Ford F-150. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Transmission shifts hard and searches for a gear. Loud noises from power train when stopping
While towing and in cruise control transmission shifts erratically and will not upshift out of lower gears unless done manually. Clunks going into some gears and while downshifting
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and shifting between gears, the vehicle experienced hard shifts. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred. Additionally, while driving at various speeds, the transmission downshifted independently. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Not really a safety issue, but Ford is aware there is a problem with their 10-speed transmissions. When we went in to ask them a question; they TOLD US what we were experiencing, before we could tell them. Ford has a 3 step process to fix. The repair staff told us that the 1st fix never works. The second fix may work. The 3rd fix is another transmission with the SAME possible problem. They have completed the 1st step; but they want the truck for weeks, without a loaner, to see if they can "duplicate" the problem. Clunking and shaking when it shifts. We know they have had "service memos" in regard to the trannies; but why should the consumer be put out if they know there is a problem?
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the tailgate was unlatched independently. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that he had experienced the failure on three different occasions. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer confirmed that the failure was a known issue. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
Driver side airbag failed to deploy during front end collision. Available for inspection at collision repair facility until repairs are initiated. Problem has not been noted by dealer or recall notice. Has not been inspected by anyone at this time. No warning lamps indicating the airbag was inoperable.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 55 MPH, the vehicle lost motive and electronic power. The vehicle rolled to a complete stop. After approximately five minutes a message on the center display stated, “Shift vehicle to Park and restart”. The vehicle was restarted and driven to the residence. The next day the contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.
engine makes a metallic noise, spark knock sound at lower speeds 10- 40 mph. Talk to ford dealer and was told to drive it till it codes. There was nothing they could check otherwise. There is 39,000 miles on it.
Passenger seatbelt wont latch or comes undone while driving
Transmission lunges, shifts erratic, almost got hit entertaining highway
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the anti-collision warning was activated with an audio sound, and the message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the failure had occurred at least six times with no objects around the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they informed him that they saw the warning activated once however, no failure cause was diagnosed, and the vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the dealer informed him of a manufacturer recall for the anti-collision system however, his VIN was not included in the recall. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer after he was coming to a complete stop and a noise was heard coming from underneath the vehicle. The dealer replaced the driveshaft, fuel tank, and the two straps however, the failure continued. The contact stated that the fuel tank issue had been ongoing since December 2020. The dealer stated that there was no remedy at this time. The dealer information was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, the contact was unaware if a case was opened. The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 5,500. The contact stated that the fuel tank failure mileage was 2,008.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the rear window had shattered while parked in the driveway at the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,660.
Clunking noise when shifting when pumping accelerator
As I was crossing the Rockies in July of 2021on I-70, my engine lost power and I was unable to drive it any further. I had it towed to the nearest Ford dealership which was in Silverthorne, Colorado where the engine had to replace at my expense of over $11,000.
2020 F-150 Lariat w/ 10 Speed Transmission - 10,600 miles. Experiencing extremely hard downshifting, erratic rough shifting when in traffic. In normal traffic conditions on the highway, traveling 60mph, the truck downshifted from 8th to 7th, causing an extremely loud bang and jerk. This has began to be a regular occurance. These transmissions have serious issues with shifting. Ford needs to find a fix. My over $60,000.00 truck drives rougher than my riding lawnmower.
2020 F-150 with the 5.0 engine uses over 2 quarts of oil in 2000 miles. Had the oil changed in April with the odometer reading 6300 miles, checked the oil at 8366 miles and it was barley on the dipstick. Went to the local Ford dealer and Service Manager said that 1 quart in 1500 miles is normal. This is over 2 quarts in 2000 miles so they are going to do an Oil Consumption test on the engine. I am unaware if TSB 19-2365 was done on the vehicle prior to buying it in April 2020. I have also reported the issue to Ford HQ and have a case number with them.
1) Truck's EcoBoost motor suddenly shut-down without any clear warning....Vehicle Is available to inspect. 2) Turning into a busy road, from a stop at a traffic light, had no power to exit road with traffic in front of and behind my truck. I had enough rolling inertia to glide into the nearest open parking lot. When this sudden motor shut-down occurred, my left turning blinker began to blink rapidly, a buzzing was heard coming from under the dash board near glove box, a red battery warning light was seen on instrument panel indicating no power. I stopped my truck, put it into park and tried several times to re-start my motor. That failed to start several times. Finally, I was able to start the motor and with great caution was able to drive to my home. 3) Problem confirmed by a Ford Service Dealer 4) Vehicle has been inspected by the Ford Service where I purchased the vehicle about a year ago...9546 miles on the vehicle, now. Service technician connected a diagnostic computer to my vehicle and found..."A Communication Error Fault with a code." No code number was on the tech's report, however. Date of this Incident was: July 18, 2021, Sunday
We have repeatedly requested the rear camera recall to be done & have been told for over 5 months that the parts are not available. EVERY other truck in our fleet of 600 with this recall has been repaired without issue.
I pulled up to a stop sign that is in front of a highway. As soon as I hit the brakes the truck shut off, the power steering and the power brakes quit working and I was almost hit by oncoming traffic.
While driving on a city street, the engine suddenly stopped. A message on the instrument cluster display said something to the effect of "Auto StartStop. Put vehicle in 'P' and start the engine". Vehicle has less that 4000 miles on it. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS EVENT, and if it should occur in heavy traffic, could result in serious injury or death. Have not yet been to the dealer. Making this complaint immediately since a quick check shows other owners reporting this event with their vehicles on this official site as well as on many unofficial forums, indicating that this is a common occurrence with the product and not this specific vehicle.
The tail gate lowered on its own while we were driving down a high way and towing our camper. It dented the propane tanks and shifted the hitch system in addition to totaling the tail gate.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after coming to a complete stop, the Auto Start-Stop feature was activated. The brake pedal was released, and the vehicle jerked while in first gear. No warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the rear differential was leaking transmission fluid onto the ground, and the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact needed to add seven quarts of oil for every 3,000 miles driven. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Vehicle has 8000 miles on it. Tires were put on by Ford dealership. They are the Goodyear Wrangler territory at tires. They are considered a new tire that was created by Goodyear this year. The tires have not been taken off road. Tires have only been driven on pavement to and from carpool. The front passenger tire was taken in to discount tire to have the tire assessed of why it was losing air pressure constantly. The side wall that faces out, has A split on the sidewall. It does not appear to be a puncture. It is very small and could barely be seen. It looks to be dried and splitting. No curbs have been hit with that front tire. Another tire previously had been taken from the back end to the dealership to be looked at for losing air. Iraq had ripped the rubber between the tire tread and created a hole. Again tires were at 3000 miles at this point in February and had not been taken off road at this point either. Goodyear was contacted because the owners had to pay out of pocket to completely replace the tire and a good year paid half of the cost for a new tire as part of their bad luck new car owner program. The tires are supposed to be an upgrade and be all-terrain. They have not even been taken off road and have had and now two major incidences. The tires seem very weak and there are currently no recalls because they have only been on vehicles for a short period of time. We have not been able to find them in any place other than the dealership to replace the tire because they are still so new. They seem very weak and have 8000 miles on the vehicle currently and are struggling to not crack.
Transmission Shift Concern: While driving in town at low speeds and on the highway at posted speeds of 70 or 75mph, and even at take off from a complete stop, I am experiencing issues with how my 2020 F150 10spd transmission shifts. At times, during all of the above instances, shifting can be very rough and noisy, can be delayed causing delayed acceleration, and even when I start the truck, I sometimes here a clunk and the truck may even slightly lurch forward. **I have had two instances now of my truck hesitating in the middle of a highway at take off. After the first time, I immediately contacted the dealership. I took the truck only to be told it could not be duplicated. **When traveling at low speeds in town you feel and audibly hear the transmission shift and sometimes jerk. **When traveling at highway speeds, especially when on cruise control, and the truck downshifts from 10th to 8th gear, the sound of the shift has become audible and you feel it. At other times, the shift is smooth and functions as I would expect. **When starting the vehicle, there are times when you hear a clunking sound then the vehicle will slightly move as if it where given a slight push. I have expressed my concern to the dealership where I purchased the truck on more than one occasion. The first time I was told by the service rep that this is normal for the truck. The second time was when the truck stalled at takeoff in the middle of the highway. This time I was told to bring the truck in. I was called to pick my truck up the same day and told the issue could not be duplicated. Very few miles were put on the truck for "testing". I wish I had documented them. Today I called again as the shifting issues are getting worse. I was scheduled for an appointment July 21, 2021, but only after telling them this needed to be checked more thoroughly. I was first dismissed and told this was again, normal operation. **No service lights or warnings in the vehicle for this specific issue.
On two occasions (4/18 and 6/10) the vehicle shut off while driving. A dashboard message said “put vehicle in park and restart engine”. The dealer service center could not find the cause. I contacted Ford Motor Company and was given a case number and the vehicle was checked again at the dealer service center in conjunction with Ford Motor Company via phone. No cause was found. I was told it most likely was a one time fluke. After the second event on 6/10 I drove immediately to the service center. I took a picture of the dashboard message. Again, no cause could be found. I reported this to the Ford Customer Experience Specialist. I asked the specialist for the email address of someone with higher authority or in their safety department and was told if I did not want to continue with Ford “someone higher would be the Better Business Bureau”. Both instances of the truck shutting off have been on residential streets while driving about 20 MPH. I have repeatedly voiced my fear that the vehicle would shut off while on the highway or thruway and the result could be catastrophic.
While backing out of a residential driveway, While turning the steering wheel the Right front wheel caught the edge of the curb and had a catastrophic failure of the right front upper ball joint. Wheel and knuckle collapsed under the wheel well. The vehicle is new with 8600 miles on it. While removing the wheel in order to tow it, found there was no torque nut on the balljoint stud. It was transported to a certified Ford dealership where it is being evaluated for repairs. Suspension, steering, alignment, sensors are non operational and damaged. The nut was either never put on, or was never tightened. No prior warnings were given. Had we been driving at speed I have no doubt we would have sustaine major injury or worse. Dealership has reported documentation of the aformentioned problem, and pictures sent to Ford administration with no response yet.
At approximately 9700 miles my truck has started malfuctioning and causing a safety risk. On takeoff the truck feels powerless until approximately 3 seconds after pressing the gas pedal. While crossing an intersection, I hit the gas which moved my truck forward very slowly in front of on-coming traffic but took approximately 3 seconds to start moving at the rate of speed a vehicle normally should. I could have been T-boned from this. The main issue I have noticed is while driving between 20 and 40 mph and giving enough gas to maintain speed, the truck starts jolting back and forth until I either let my foot off the gas or floor it. It also makes a clunking noise in the rear end while this happens. I called Ford and scheduled an appointment which was 4 weeks out and they just told me to "Take it easy driving it, it will be fine." This is not a once in a while issue, this happens every single time I drive my truck and does not go away no matter how long I'm driving it for.
Back glass shattered with no impact waiting at a red light. Heard a pop sound and the whole back glass shattered. Live in Florida so we did not have the defrost on.
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V575000 (VISIBILITY) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT CALLED Dwayne Lane's Skagit Ford (680 Auto Blvd, Burlington, WA 98233, (855) 879-5700) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
I HAVE 2 MAJOR ISSUES: 1. MY TAILGATE KEEPS OPENING ON ITS OWN. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AS WELL AS WHEN IT IS PARKED. DAMAGE HAPPENED TO THE TAILGATE WHEN IT OPENED ON ITS OWN IN THE GARAGE AND WAS LEANING AGAINST THE GARAGE DOOR WHEN MY WIFE OPENED THE GARAGE DOOR TO LEAVE IN HER VEHICLE. IT ALSO HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS ISSUE HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES BUT GARAGE ISSUE HAPPENED THIS MORNING AND WILL PUT THAT AS THE DATE IT HAPPENED BELOW. 2. ALSO THE LANE MINDING SYSTEM KEEPS ALARMING TELLING ME TO PUT MY HANDS ON THE WHEEL WHEN I HAVE NEVER LET GO OF THE WHEEL IN THE FIRST PLACE - THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING TOO STRAIGHT, THAT THE SYSTEM WANTS TO DETECT MOVEMENT IN THE STEERING WHEEL (AM I SUPPOSED TO DRIVE SERPENTINE DOWN THE ROAD TO KEEP MY VEHICLES ALARM FROM GOING OFF AND DISTRACTING ME?). THE ALARM HAPPENS WHEN I AM DRIVING ON STRAIGHT AREAS OF THE ROAD. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE, PRETTY MUCH ON A DAILY BASIS SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK.
The Display Screen on the truck goes completely black and resets itself. USB's don't function all the time. I was told when I brought the vehicle in for the first oil change after purchase that no issued were detected. It has continually happened. The screen goes black again, USB works intermittently, speakers are static and cannot get connection to any phone. Finally the dealer reported an issue with the sensor when I brought the truck in again for an oil change. So I waited for the part to arrive. I also stated my wheel locked and I was unable to drive it. They didn't find anything wrong. First time to get it repaired. The new sensor blew and the car didn't start. They had to put the old sensor back in so I had a truck to drive and order another. The second scheduled visit, the dealer couldn't find the part. I was told when I scheduled my 3rd visit, this part has been in demand for the last year because of the issue. I am now here for the 3rd visit, and told I need to pay the extended warranty on a part that basically runs the display of the car but can also cause the car not to function. During this time I have still had an issue with the steering wheel locking and the key doesn't turn. This has happened on 3 different occasions. I've had to try and move the steering wheel continuously and shake it leaving me stuck until I can get it to unlock. Again.... no one can find this issue and says its not the starter. If the truck went completely dead with a damaged sensor then the sensor may also control the steering wheel locking. No dealer has an answer for me. I do not want to be stranded and have this happen again. There have been no messages regarding any failures except for the screen just going black, forcing me to use my phone for navigation etc.
MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT EXIT OUT OF A DRIVE OR MOVING UNTIL I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND DISCONNECTED THE NEG BATTERY CABLE. THE VEHICLE STAYED IN A STATE OF HIGH RPMS. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS AND NO WARNINGS DISPLAYED ON THE TRUCK DISPLAY. THIS IS THE SECOND "SPEEDING OUT OF CONTROL" SITUATION IN TWO DAYS. I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF, MY FAMILY, AND EVERYONE AROUND ME. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TRIGGERS THE ONSET OF THIS CONDITION. I EXITED FROM STATE HIGHWAY 5 ONTO EXIT 104 (HWY 101) AND TOOK A LEFT ON MUD BAY ROAD. I WAS TRAVELING 30-35 MPH WHEN I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP TO MAKE THE RIGHT TURN INTO THE SWIMMING FACILITY. MY TRUCK WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. I PUSHED HE BRAKES VERY HARD TO PREVENT THE TRUCK FROM SPEEDING UNCONTROLLABLY. I PULLED IN TO A PARKING SPOT AS BEST AS I COULD. THE TRUCK RPMS WERE MAXED. I OWN AN AUTOMATIC DRIVE. WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, I SHIFTED FROM D TO N. THERE WAS A LOUD SOUND OF GEARS DURING THE SHIFT. THE TRUCK RPMS WERE STILL MAXED OUT. I TURNED OFF THE TRUCK AND PLACED THE TRUCK IN P. I ALSO ENABLED THE PARKING BRAKE. I STARTED THE TRUCK AND THE TRUCK RPMS WERE STILL MAXED OUT. I KEPT THE TRUCK RUNNING FOR AN ADDITIONAL 30 SECONDS. MY WIFE AND BYSTANDERS INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL EMANATING FROM THE TRUCK. I TURNED OFF THE TRUCK AND THE TRUCK DISPLAYED AN "OVERHEATING" WARNING. I ALLOWED THE TRUCK TO COOL DOWN AND DISCONNECTED THE NEG BATTERY CABLE FOR 15 MIN. AFTER I RECONNECTED THE NEG CABLE, THE TRUCK RESET TO NORMAL RUNNING CONDITIONS. I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK FOR THREE MONTHS AND THE TRUCK IS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT 2020 F-150S HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION/ENGINE. I WILL TAKE MY TRUCK THERE TOMORROW (13MAY2021) FOR THEM TO VIEW THE ERROR CODES.
MY TRUCK ACCELERATED TWICE WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS STOPPED AT A YIELD SIGN WAITING FOR TRAFFIC TO PASS. I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, MY TRUCK IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATED. I PRESSED THR BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN AND THE TRUCK ENGINE/TRANSMISSION RPMS DID NOT DECREASE UNTIL THE TRUCK FULLY STOPPED. I INTENTIONALLY STOPPED ABOUT 10 METERS BEHIND THE NEXT VEHICLE IN A LEFT TURN LANE. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. THE TRUCK ACCELERATED BY ITSELF TOO FAST. I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES HARD AGAIN. AFTER I PRESSED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AGAIN, THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION RESET TO NORMAL OPERATION. I DID NOT EXPERIENCE THR PROBLEM ON THE REMAINING DRIVE HOME. I WAS EXITING OFF OF A HIGHWAY 5 TO EXIT ON TO A CITY STREET. THIS ACCELERATION WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IF THERE WERE CARS IN FRONT OF MY TRUCK. CONSUMER STATED HE WENT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD "SPEEDING OUT OF CONTROL" WAS CAUSE BY GAS PEADL STICKING TO 3RD PARTY FLOOR MAT. CONSUMER REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT.*JB
MY 2020 FORD F-150 CREW CAB XLT WITH 38000 MILES HAD A SEAT FAILURE ON MAY 05, 2021 WHEN I HIT A POTHOLE ON I-75 NEAR LEXINGTON KY WHILE TRAVELING 70 MILES PER HOUR. I COULD EAISLY SEE OVER STEERING WHEEL WITH MY 5'2" HEIGHT SINCE OUR PURCHASE OF THIS FAMILY HAULER VEHICLE MANY MONTHS AGO. AT THE IMPACT OF SMALL POTHOLE THE SEAT DROPPED ABOUT 3 INCHES, I HAD TO PULL UP WITH MY ARMS ON STEERING WHEEL TO SEE OUT WINDSHIELD TO MAKE IT TO SHOULDER. I PILED COATS UNDER ME TO MAKE IT HOME. MY HUSBAND AND I FOUND BROKEN PLASTIC UNDER SEAT? I WEIGH 105 LBS AND MY HUSBAND WEIGHS 205 LBS. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THE SEAT IN A 50,000 DOLLAR TRUCK WOULD BE MADE OF CHEAP PLASTIC AND FAIL THAT EASY. REPAIR SHOP ADVISED THIS IS COMMON IN NEW FORD TRUCKS. VERY UNSAFE!
I WAS TURNED UP A DRIVEWAY AND THE TRUCK STALLED THE WARNING LIGHT SAID AUTO START STOP PUT IN P AND START ENGINE. I TURNED OFF AUTO START STOP AND PUT IN P AND IT STARTED
PURCHASED MY F150 NEW AND FROM THE DEALER AND THE FRAME WAS OIL SPRAYED TO PREVENT CORROSION AND RUST BEFORE TAKING THE VEHICLE HOME. TRUCK NOW SITS JUST UNDER 8,000MI AND THE REAR AXLE AND A GOOD PORTION OF FASTENERS ARE ALL RUSTY AS IF THE TRUCK IS 15YRS OLD. THE SKID PLATE UNDER THE TRANSFER CASE LOOKS LIKE IT MAY HAVE BEEN ZINC PLATED FROM THE FACTORY BUT NOW IT'S ALL PITTED AND CORRODED AND DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A NEW TRUCK. I CAN'T HARDLY BELIEVE THAT AFTER SUCH A SHORT TIME THE UNDERSIDE LOOKS LIKE THIS AS IF THERE WAS NO PAINT APPLIED TO ANYTHING AT THE FACTORY. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF AND FIXED BY FORD.
FOR THE 3RD TIME WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY 2020 F150 STX WITH ONLY 4,218 MILES THE ENGINE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY AND DISPLAYED 'AUTO STARTSTOP SHIFT TO P, THEN RESTART ENGINE' ON THE DASH DISPLAY. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ON 4/22/21 I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A STREET GOING ABOUT 20 MPH. FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME OR BEHIND ME AND I WAS NOT TRYING TO TURN AT AN INTERSECTION WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A COLLISION. THE SAME THING HAD HAPPENED ON 3/18/21 WHILE DRIVING ON A STREET GOING ABOUT 15 MPH. AND THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ON 2/20/21 I WAS PULLING IN TO MY DRIVEWAY SO STOPPING AND DOING SO WAS NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM. I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM I FELT VERY UNSAFE IN MY TRUCK IF THIS PROBLEM DOESN'T GET RESOLVED PEOPLE CAN GET IN TO AN ACCIDENT AND GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND ALSO CHECKED MY VIN FOR ANY RECALLS AND I WAS SURPRISED TO NOT FIND ANY. FROM RESEARCHING ONLINE FORUMS THE AUTO START/STOP FUNCTION APPEARS TO BE FAULTY AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED/RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO BE WIDESPREAD AND ACROSS MULTIPLE MODEL YEARS. ON 4/24/21 I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT THE TECH CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT THEY RAN SEVERAL TESTS AND THE TRUCK DID NOT GIVE ANY PROBLEM CODES. FOR SAFETY DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DID NOT WANT ME TO DRIVE TRUCK SO THEY WOULD KEEP IT AND WOULD CONTACT FORD TO REPORT ISSUE AND WAIT FOR THEIR RECOMMENDATION. I'M STILL WAITING FOR UPDATE. I HOPE FORD TAKES THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY AND DOES A RECALL.
ON APRIL 21, 2021, AT 09:10 I PARKED MY 2020 F150 XLT SPORT IN MY WORK PARKING LOT. THE TRUCK WAS LOCKED AND UNOCCUPIED. AT 16:10, I APPROACHED THE VEHICLE FROM THE FRONT ON THE DRIVER SIDE. AS I NEARED THE BACK DOOR TO PLACE MY ITEMS INSIDE, I NOTICED GLASS SHARDS ON THE EDGE OF THE TRUCK BED. I PROCEEDED TO UNLOCK AND OPEN THE REAR DOOR AND NOTICED AN APPROX. 8 INCH BY 2 INCH GASH ON THE RIGHT REAR SEDENTARY WINDOW, THE ENTIRE STATIONARY REAR GLASS WAS "SPIDER SHATTERED". THE GLASS SHARDS WERE IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK AND ALONG THE RIM OF THE BED EDGES. I INSPECTED THE VEHICLE FOR OTHER DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN USE, NOT OCCUPIED AND NO OBJECTS TO CAUSE DAMAGE. ALSO NOTE, THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE DID NOT EXCEED 66F
THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT COME WITH A SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT. ALL VEHICLES SHOULD COME WITH SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT, A MANUAL ONE IS FINE. PEOPLE THAT ARE SHORTER ESPECIALLY DRIVING AN F-150 MUST BE ABLE TO SEE SAFELY. WE HAVE MANY EXPENSIVE SAFETY FEATURES COME STANDARD BUT SADLY ARE OMITTING A $10 ADDITION THAT GREATLY IMPROVES DRIVEABILITY.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT, AND TURNING SLIGHTLY LEFT, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY AND DISPLAYED "AUTO STARTSTOP SHIFT TO P, THEN RESTART ENGINE" ON THE DASH DISPLAY. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT TRYING TO TURN AND CROSS TRAFFIC ON A HIGHWAY WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CATASTROPHIC T-BONE COLLISION. THE AUTO START/STOP FUNCTION APPEARS TO BE FAULTY AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED/RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. FROM RESEARCHING ONLINE FORUMS, THE ISSUE APPEARS TO BE WIDESPREAD AND ACROSS MULTIPLE MODEL YEARS.
VEHICLE WAS SLOWING AT AN INTERSECTION WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. LIFTED FOOT OFF AND MOVED TO ACCELERATOR TO TURN RIGHT ONTO THE MAIN ROAD. ENGINE SHUT OFF AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE ON ACCELERATION. DASHBOARD CHIMED AND GAVE THE WARNING "AUTO STARTSTOP SHIFT TO P, THEN RESTART ENGINE." MANAGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHIFTED TO PARK, RESTARTED ENGINE.
THERE IS A KNOWN RECALL ON THE BACKUP CAMERA WTIH FORD. BUT MY LOCAL DEALER HAS THE PART ON BACKORDER FOR GOING ON 3 MONTHS NOW. THIS SEEMS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. HOW CAN A MAJOR COMPANY ISSUE A RECALL AND THEN NOT HAVE THE PART AVAILABLE TO FIX FOR MORE THAN 3 MONTHS?
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN MY NEW FORD F-150 KING RANCH ON THE ABOVE DATE TRAVELING ON THE HENRY HUDSON PARKWAY (MANHATTAN) SOUTHBOUND. MY TRUCK WAS STRUCK IN THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR BY AN UNKNOWN VEHICLE AND CAUSED US TO SPIN OUT 2 TIMES AT 60 MPH AND HIT THE CENTER CONCRETE DIVIDER ALMOST DIRECTLY HEAD ON. WE HIT TO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK.. THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. THE CANISTERS ON THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS OPENED AND THE POWDER WAS ALL OVER BUT THE BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. I DON'T THINK THIS WAS NORMAL AND I FEEL IT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT. THERE WAS $31,000 DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE WHICH WASN'T TOTALED. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT THIS AGENCY WILL LOOK INTO FOR ME? RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR*DT*DT
Something really disturbing happened while I was driving my truck on 3/20/21. I was pulling into an intersection and the car shut off. Stepping on the gas did nothing and I could barely turn the wheel. There was a message flashing in my dashboard that I can’t remember because I panicked. I could have been T boned because there was traffic coming from my right and left, my kids could have been in the car with me because it’s the family car. Thank God neither of those happened because it was around 10 am and there wasn’t that much traffic. I ended up putting the car in park, shutting off the car, and restarting it, all as fast as I could. It was obviously pretty terrifying. On 4/25/21, a similar incident happened around 10:30 am. I was sitting at a stop sign and a warning message came onto my dashboard with a battery symbol. I can't remember the exact message, but I had to put the car in park and power off/power on the car again like the last time. Again on 6/23/21, the car shut off again while I was driving, my foot was on the gas. I got an error message and had to put the car in park, shut off, then turn it back on. It was extremely scary this time because my daughter was in the car and this happened right outside the school with children crossing the road. What I’ve realized is that this only started happening when I left the Auto Start/Stop on. I realized that and have been turning it off. I forgot to do it on this trip and that’s when the car shut off. I’ve seen a lot of complaints about this online. There must be something your engineers are aware of and can fix this issue.
JUST BOUGHT THE TRUCK. I TOOK IT TO THE STORE, THEN AROUND TOWN. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN DOWN A SIDE STREET, I PUSHED THE BUTTON FOR THE HEAT, TO TURN IT OFF. I HEARD A WEIRD BUZZING NOISE. MY BREAKS STOPPED WORKING FULLY. NO BREAKS AT ALL. NO POWER BREAK, SINCE IT'S ELECTRICAL OR SOMETHING. NO WAY TO STOP THE TRUCK. WHEN I TRIED TO PUSH THE GAS TO MOVE. THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE TRANSMISSION AT ALL. WHEN I FINALLY STOPPED. I TRIED TO FIGURE OUT THE ISSUES. SWITCHING SEVERAL OPTIONS AND MODES TO TRY TO FIND THE SOLUTION. CALLED A MECHANIC. NO CODES WERE GIVEN ON THE SYSTEM. HAD TO WAIT 2 HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK. I'M A DISABLED VET, HAD TO WALK BACK TO MY HOUSE TO GRAB MY OTHER CAR, SINCE I DIDN'T KNOW IF THIS TRUCK WAS JUST GOING TO DECIDE TO TAKE OFF WITH ME IN IT. THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS ELECTRICAL AND BUGGY. SURE ENOUGH. BEFORE THE TOW TRUCK GOT THERE, I WAS WITH ANOTHER PERSON WHO HAD A SIMILAR FORD F150. HE WENT THROUGH SOME OPTIONS. WITHOUT TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR, THE TRUCK STARTED TO REV UP. WE QUICKLY WENT TO THE ENGINE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. IF THAT TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE ACTIVATED IT WOULD HAVE SMASHED INTO SEVERAL PEOPLE, CARS AND HOUSES. THEN THAT'S WHEN I LOOKED UP THE RECALL FOR THE 2020 F150 AND FOUND ALL THE INFORMATION I WISH I WOULD HAVE SEEN BEFORE THE PURCHASE. 365 MILES ON THE TRUCK. HAD IT LESS THAN 14 HOURS. DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 20 MINS. NOTICED PREMATURE RUST UNDERNEATH, BUT DIDN'T THINK TOO MUCH OF IT. A LOT OF PARTS WERE RUSTING AND HAD NO PROTECTION.
FOR THE SECOND TIME TODAY, MY 2020 F150 HAS TURNED ITSELF OFF, WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WITH A MESSAGE TO "SHIFT TO PARK AND RESTART ENGINE". I HAPPENED TO BE PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY, SO STOPPING AND DOING SO WAS NOT A SAFETY PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME, I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AND DO THIS, BUT IF THIS HAPPENS ON A ROAD, OR WORSE, WHEN ENTERING AN INTERSECTION WHEN CROSSING WITHOUT STOPPING IS NECESSARY, SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED.. I HAVE NOT BOTHERED TO REPORT THIS TO FORD, BECAUSE I AM ACTIVE ON AN F150 FORUM AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER PEOPLE, AND FORD HAS NO IDEA HOW TO FIX IT. I NOTICED SEVERAL PEOPLE SAID IT HAPPENED WHEN THE WEATHER WAS CHILLY - ONE PERSON SAID IT WAS 42 DEGREES. IN MY CASE, THE WEATHER TODAY IS 40, AND IT WAS SIMILAR WEATHER LAST TIME IT HAPPENED. I HAVE NO IDEA IF THIS IS RELATED, BUT IT'S AN INTERESTING COINCIDENCE OTHERWISE. MY CAR WAS MODERATELY WARMED UP, I HAD ONLY DRIVEN ABOUT 8 MILES. PICTURE OF THE DASH FROM TODAY'S INCIDENT ATTACHED. IN BOTH CASES, THE TRUCK WAS OTHERWISE DRIVING FINE, GIVING NO INDICATION OF PROBLEMS, AND ALSO STARTED RIGHT BACK UP AND SHOWED NO OTHER PROBLEM. IT HAS PROBABLY BEEN ABOUT 3 MONTHS SINCE THE FIRST TIME. THE SECOND TIME WAS TODAY - 3.16.2021
UNDERCAB MATTING USED FOR AERO AND PROTECTION OF TRANSMISSION / EXPOSED UNDERWIRING IS EASILY SATURATED BY MOISTURE FROM NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. CAUSING EXCESSIVE WEAR AND TEAR TO VEHICLE COMPONENTS. THE MATTING ON OUR VEHICLE HAS ALREADY TORN ON ONE SIDE (AT 15K MI), WITH SERVICE SUGGESTING TO "ZIP TIE" THE PARTS BACK TOGETHER OR REMOVE THE PANEL AND EXPOSE THE TRANSMISSION AND WIRING TO ADDITIONAL WEAR AND TEAR. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER SIMILAR F150S WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A LARGE UNDERBODY PANEL AND CAN POSE SIGNIFICANT RISK TO MOTORISTS OR CYCLISTS BEHIND IF IT WERE TO FAIL AND DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE. ATTACHED IMAGE IS OF DRIVERS SIDE LOOKING UP/UNDER TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE.
CLUTCH WENT OUT IN AUTOMATIC TRUCK CAUSING TRANSMISSION TO OVERHEAT AND FAIL. LOST REVERSE WHILE DRIVING AND TRUCK WOULD SLAM INTO EVERY GEAR WHEN ACCELERATING OR DOWNSHIFTING. ONLY 18,000 MILES ON TRUCK. TRUCK WAS BROUGHT INTO FORD BACK IN JAN 2021 AND THEY REPLACED THE MAIN BRAIN TO THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED AND FAILED BY MARCH 2021. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY WHEN FAILURE HAPPENED.
MY WIFE IS ABOUT FIVE MONTHS PREGNANT, SHE WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK IN THE HIGHWAY OUT OF NOWHERE THE TRUCK SLOW DOWN ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT - THE TRUCK MADE AN ALARM SOUND- THE LIGHT SHOW UP ON THE DASHBOARD- PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTO. I ALREADY CONTACTED THE FORD DEALER FOR AN APPOINTMENT IN REGARDS TO THIS ISSUE FOR MONDAY 3/8/ 2021 THANKS FOR HELPING IN ADVANCE. SINCERELY/ [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
