2021 FORD F-150 XL- Consumer called dealer to schedule a a repair in reference to Recall # 22V842. Consumer was informed parts were not available and to check back in September. However, consumer was told that if the part failed at anytime between now & then, they would make the repair. Consumer is worried the wiper motor can fail when needed the most. Consumer questions if the repair can be made now if wiper motor were to fail, why not replace the motor now before it fails? Why should they be place in a hazardous situation and real safety concern?
2021 FORD F150 PICKUP- Consumer states "I Purchased a new 2021 Ford F150 pickup from Capitol Ford in Carson City Nevada. I have 5-6 outstanding safety recalls. I having been trying to get the dealership to give me an appointment date for these for over a year and a half. I have also contacted Ford Motor Company who contacted the dealer last tall to try to get me an appointment. At the time the dealer told them I was scheduled to be called March of 2023 to schedule an appointment. Its now almost June and I still have not received an appointment. The next closest Ford dealer to me is over sixty miles away so it is not easy for me to go there nor do they give me a loaner or transportation to and from that dealership. I have asked Ford to buy back the pickup since, with this many outstanding safety issues I feel I paid them a lot of money for an unsafe vehicle that they and the dealer have not resolved. I'm asking you to contact Ford and get them to buy back this unsafe vehicle." Looked up NHTSA safety recalls from VIN: 21V090, 22V142, 22v193, & 23V163.
At routine maintenance it was discovered the bolt which retains the rear axle on the passenger-side of the vehicle had sheared off and was FOI d within the wheel hub.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while reversing into their driveway, the back over prevention display rear view camera was frozen, no warning lights were illuminated, and in the process, the contact crashed into the corner of their house with the rear passenger tail light. The image displayed 20 feet away in distance, however the house was closer than the image display. Property damage was not reported. The vehicle came to a stop upon impact. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was going less than 5 MPH at the time of the crash. The vehicle did not need to be towed. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was not destroyed. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was inspected however, it was not diagnosed, and the vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number : 25V315000 (BACK OVER PREVENTION) as probable cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Drivers side and passenger side rear axle end bolt. I called my local FORD dealer and was told that the truck in not safe to drive and to call Roadside Assistance and have my vehicle transported to the nearest FORD dealer for repair. This is somewhat of a common problem as reported on the F150 vehicle user groups and this is the second time that it has happened on this vehicle. My local FORD dealer replaced the passenger side axle when this happened the first time. The only warning of this failure is a rattle during vehicle low speed operation due to centripetal force not allowing the bolt and washer to rattle in the cavity covered by the Logo axle cover. I was only able to notice this rattle due to it being on the drivers side during low speeds. When this occurred on the passenger side I did not notice it and I'm not sure how long the issue existed until my trucks drivetrain disengaged while driving in a parking lot. The bolt failure over time can allow the rear axle to slip outboard and disengage the axle splines. FORD needs to address this issue and determine root cause and resolve this issue.
Started with check engine light for cylinder 5 misfire and engine was running rough with loss of power. Took the truck to dealer and dealer reports compression loss as reason for engine failure. After doing some research there appears to be a major issue with the same engine (2.7 ecoboost) of the same year(2021) reported for the Bronco and F150 for catastrophic engine failure. I suspect this is the same engine failure that my truck experienced.
Fractured /sheared rear axle bolt on passenger side.
The passenger side rear axle bolt sheared off and could be heard rattling inside the wheel/hub. Dealership showed the bolt to us and said it's common with the newer body style F-150's. My wife was heading out this weekend to drive back home to Illinois from here in Montana. Now she's stuck here until next week at the earliest.
The Transmission slips into neutral when moving slow and trying to accelerate, also when sitting at traffic light waiting for an opening from on coming traffic when I try to turn it will start to move and then slip into neutral. I almost got hit by oncoming traffic a few times.also the Transmission jerks very hard when shifting up from low gear.
After recent software updates sent out by Ford, my rear view camera display freezes and sometimes displays a distorted image. The freezing image makes it difficult to judge the distance between the vehicle and objects behind it, and it can also give the driver the impression that the road behind them is clear when it is not.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 22V142000 (Visibility) and 22V623000 (Power Train, Structure) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the "Electrical Default, Service Engine Soon and Engine Coolant Overheating" messages were displayed. Also, the temperature gauge indicated that the engine had overheated, and steam was coming from under the hood. The vehicle began to lose power and the power steering malfunctioned. The vehicle was later towed to the residence. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 16,000.
Broken bolt that holds axle to wheel hub, leaking differential oil
After driving my vehicle, I parked the truck for about 20 min. Upon returning to the vehicle and leaving the parking spot, a loud crackle and pop sound came from the speaker system. Followed up a recurring static noise that was at the loudest volume I presume the audio system would get to. The static would not cease with turning the volume off, turning down the volume, etc. I tried to turn off the vehicle and leave the vehicle for 5 min but upon restarting the truck, the sound restarted immediately. I tried turning off and restarting 2 more times with no success. I had no choice but to drive 40 min to the closest dealership. The manager and a sales person heard and experienced the sound. They shut the vehicle off and on as I did. They shut off the vehicle for about 10 min while they went in search of a service tech. When the truck was restarted the sound stopped. The tech did a master reset just in case hoping for a error code but none appeared. This event was jarring and a day later, my hearing still is not normal and my ears hurt.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V142000 (Visibility) and 23V163000 (Visibility) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. Additionally, the contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was being operated during inclement weather, the wiper motor intermittently failed to operate as designed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 500. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V250000 (Visibility) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission experienced hard shifting from sixth to fifth gear. Additionally, while in the ECO Mode, the vehicle would not properly accelerate from a stationary position. During the failure, the transmission shifted to eighth gear with a loud whining sound coming from the vehicle however, the vehicle would not accelerate as needed. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.
Rear window shattered. I was in a restaurant ate dinner and came back out the rear window was completely shattered
While driving, particularly when accelerating or climbing an incline, the transmission clunks, bangs, lurches and hesitates. It makes driving the vehicle unpredictable. This is distracting and unsafe as it means that the driver is not confident in consistent acceleration and control of the vehicle. Also, other drives may be at some risk because this new vehicle is not traveling along the roadway as would normally expected.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving over a speed bump at approximately 15 MPH, there was a loud grinding sound coming from the vehicle before the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle and the vehicle was later towed to the local dealer. While at the local dealer, the mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The mechanic stated that parts of the piston and valve spring retainer were found inside the oil pan. The engine was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,966.
In April 2023, while driving to work, at least a dozen error messages were displayed on the instrument cluster. When I arrived at work and was driving at a slower speed, I noticed some irregular feedback in the steering wheel and quickly realized the power steering was intermittently disabling itself. The truck had just rolled over 30k miles at this point and was well within the manufacturer's warranty period. I took the truck to the dealer for repair and got the truck back within a few days and was told it was repaired. The very next morning while driving to work again, the same problem ensued again with a dozen error messages and the power steering intermittently disabling itself. I took the truck bad to the dealer, contacted Ford customer care, and they got an engineering team to help work the problem. The service advisor also told me there were 3 other vehicles at their dealer with the same problem. After more than 30 days of being at the dealer for repair, the truck was returned to me again. Everything seemed to be fine for a couple months and then it returned again with many error messages and power steering failures. On Monday this week I started to pull out in traffic and the power steering disabled and caused me to cross the 2-lane road into oncoming traffic.
Lower coolant hose is rubbing on a wire loom which caused wear on the coolant hose causing a leak. We experienced loss of coolant and temperature fluctuating, no overheating because employee reported fluctuating. Vehicle was taken to Sames Ford Motor Company and warranty was honored.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V533000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired, however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
Heard a loud clanging noise coming from the right rear tire area of the truck. I removed the center cap on my tire and noticed the axel bolt was sheared off. I drove to the dealership, they looked it over and kept the truck to repair it. They have to order the parts and not sure when it will be fixed. They did mention that they had seen another F150 with the same problem.
There were no reported maintenance problems with the Ford F150 before the fire occurred. On the day of the fire, the vehicle was being driven by an ADOT employee who was east bound on Interstate 8 near mile post 39 when she began to smell smoke. The employee pulled over to the side of the road and observed smoke emanating from the side of the hood. The employee report that she observed little plastic balls of fire dropping down to the ground. The vehicle continued to burn unabated in this rural area for many hours before most combustibles were consumed and the fire self-extinguished itself. The remains of the vehicle and fire damaged contents were then scooped up by ADOT maintenance personnel and taken to the Yuma maintenance yard where it was later inspected.
Park/Emergency Brake system light illuminates and system engages when vehicle is placed from drive to park, and when system is shut down the light illuminates and engages. Also, when vehicle is started the park brake light shows to be engaged. When the vehicle is put in reverse the light is still illuminated while the vehicle is backing up. The light stays on while the vehicle is in backward motion. Safety concerns for me and my family are: 1. What if the Park Brake engaged while driving at normal speed - what could happen? 2. With vehicle parked and brake system engaged driver should not be able to put vehicle in reverse and back up without disengaging brake lever. The vehicle was taken to the local dealership service center twice to try to get resolution of the park brake light issue. They were unable to duplicate the issue and stated that according to Ford's maintenance policy there was nothing more that could be done. We have tried to contact Ford through their main customer service phone number. We literally spent hours on the phone trying to reach someone who could help us with the issue, but no one had an answer for us. A case file was made by Ford Customer Service and marked "RESOLVED". It has not been resolved. As stated, the park brake light started showing up in February 2022. As of this time there has not been an incident, but I can't rule out that something might happen. I think it should be addressed by the dealership and/or Ford engineer with more interest than just a dismissal attitude.
My pickup was at the dealer getting an oil change and tire rotation (23140 miles) and I was informed that the right rear axle bolt had sheared requiring replacement of the axle assembly and that it was not safe for me to drive the vehicle off the lot. This is the second time that the right rear axle bolt has sheared. The first time, the axle assembly was replaced at this same dealer at 14482 miles. I no longer have the original bolt that sheared, I will request the second sheared bolt so it could be inspected if needed. I do not know what the safety ramifications are except to say that both times, Ford said it was not safe for me to drive the truck off the lot. There are numerous reports of rear axle bolts shearing in 2021/2022 F-150s with the Max Tow package (apparently, this package has a different axle configuration) on the Internet. For example: https://www.f150forum.com/f129/2021-powerboost-rear-rotor-axle-bolt-sheared-515460/index21/#post7265683 The vehicle has been inspected (and the axle assembly replaced already once) by my local Ford dealer. It is currently being held by the dealer for the second repair. There were no warning lights, noises or any other indications that the axle bolt had sheared. When the first bolt sheared, I heard a rattle from the right rear tire and I expected to find a broken lug bolt or loose lug nut but instead found the sheared axle bolt. No noises were heard when the second bolt sheared.
Truck shakes violently at 65mph and higher. Replaced tires, rims, suspension, had the ford dealer check it many times. Took it to a mechanic shop and come to find out the driveshaft is making my truck shake. I have video of the rear end/ driveshaft, and transmission/ transfer case and the dealer said my vin number wasn’t part of the Recall
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Advancetrac warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the screen was blinking. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 49,276.
While driving with sound volume at normal setting (volume 8), speakers started to pop and static erratically, which startled me, almost causing an accident. The issue will randomly go away, no warning lights on screen or dashboard. The static and pop sounds still continued at volume setting one. The erratic static and pop goes away then it happens again 20 min later. My ears are ringing from the popping sounds
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V142000 (Visibility) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
I took my 2021 Ford F-150 VIN [XXX] to a 3rd party mechanic for a TX state inspection as required by law. The mechanic told me he could not preform the inspection because my truck would not communicate with his emissions testing computer. He said this has happened many other times with other newer F-150s. As can be seen with NHTSA ID number 10209217 and Manufacturer Communication Number: SSM 50602. It appears Ford via their software and emissions test is only allowing these vehicle’s to be serviced at Ford dealerships which is wrong. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the passenger’s side headlight was not working as intended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the passenger’s side headlamp needed to be replaced due a failure of the LED screen. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred approximately one year later. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the passenger’s side and driver’s side headlamps needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
I took my truck in for an oil change and tire rotation one 3/18/23 and currently has ~13,500. Upon pulling the rear drivers side rear tire the axle bolt fell out as it had been sheared off. There was no notice of the issue and as I understand it could have resulted in my right real wheel to have broken off while driving. The dealer immediately took it out of service and currently is searching the fix.
The Cabin recirculation button turns off by it self, lets air in from outside.. ie. smoke, car and truck exhaust.. cold air. this has been going on since I owned the truck and Ford says it is designed to do that.. window anti fog design.. I will get in my truck in the morning and turn heat on to take chill off... low air speed and 2 clicks past half way on the heat and it will only stay on for 1 -5 min and turn off on its own. I drive 1 hour to work on interstate and everytime it turns off I smell exhaust from semi's and other cars around me in traffic. so I have to keep turning it on to keep from getting choked out by the smells from traffic. Ford says no way to turn off.. This is a design flaw.. I know of no other car manufacture that does this.. I have videos of it turning off..
My latest transmission problem is most noticeable in Tow/Haul mode. It is also the most concerning and dangerous. At higher speeds, such as on the interstate, when braking for some reason, such as traffic congestion, the transmission downshifts and the r.p.m. slows as it should. However around 2nd or 3rd gear and 1,900 r.p.m. the engine speed abruptly increases to around 3,500 r.p.m. and then begins to decrease again. This has happened with or without a utility trailer attached. Luckily I have not had my 24 foot car hauler and 5,000 pound limousine behind me on the way to a car show. With or without a trailer, God only knows what would happen if I relied on adaptive cruise control. I don't use it.
Driving down the freeway, horn started blaring and power completely went out in car -engine steering etc The dealership is replacing the computer in the vehicle
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V842000 (Visibility) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Windshield very easily cracked and not even where it was struck.
With cruise control engaged, the set speed would randomly change up or down changing vehicle speed rapidly. Most dangerous part was some times the speed would set itself from around the speed limit where I set to as much as 20-30 mph above the posted speed limit up to 90 mph. The speed would instantly increase by 5,10,15,20 mph all of a sudden which is not possible to set with the cruise control buttons as they only increase or decrease in one mph increment. If it is some sort of speed limit sign reading system it failed and caused a dangerous situation for me and my family. I have video of multiple instances. This is dangerous and life threatening for the occupants of my vehicle and others on or near the road and could easily lead to loss of control, injury or death.
2021 FORD F-150. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO NHTSA SAFETY RECALL 22V-142.
Truck was due for oil change and tire rotation so I brought it to the dealer I purchased it from on Friday, 24-Feb-2024. When the service tech removed the driver side rear tire, the spindle nut securing the wheel hub to the axle fell on the ground due to a fracture (picture attached) in the mating threaded part of the axle. Was informed of customer satisfaction campaign 22B34 and a replacement part was ordered and installed the next day. The failure occurred sometime between 01-Sep-2022 at 19,384 miles when the tires were last rotated and 24-Feb-2023 at 28,085 miles. It appears to have occurred some time ago as the fracture portion is oxidized and there's quite a bit of marking to the outer circumference as I assume it was rattling around in the wheel assembly for some time.
2021 FORD F-150. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO PARTS BEING UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM NHTSA SAFETY RECALL 22V-842.
2021 FORD F-150. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO NHTSA SAFETY RECALL 22V-842. THE DEALER STATED IF THE CONSUMER WAS NOT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR, THE RECALL WILL NOT BE REPAIRED.
Ford has issued two recalls for my vehicle. I've included the Campaign/NHTSA# for each below. 22S53/22V623 22S26/22V250 In each case I have sought to have the vehicle repaired and in each case my dealer has said that Ford does not have parts available for their service department to make the repair. I've waited a reasonable time without any update from either Ford or my dealer prior to submitting this complaint. Ford has an obligation to make recall repairs within a reasonable time of announcing the recall. Their failure to do so could place consumers in danger. Otherwise, why would they initiate the recall in the first place? Anyway, I thought this was unacceptable and felt the need to complain. Thanks, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Took our vehicle in for regularly scheduled maintenance - oil change and tire rotation. Received a call from the dealership stating that when they removed the left rear tire the axle retainer bolt was broken and fell out. The service technician phoned to let us know that this needs to be fixed and would have to order parts. Also informed us that there is CSP BULLETIN 22B34 issued on February 14, 2023 for certain 2021 F150’s. This recall only pertains to vehicles built between May and September 2021. Our truck was built in December 2021 and is not included in this bulletin. However, my vehicle has experienced the same critical failure as trucks built between May and September. In addition, this part is on a national back order with no known date of when the part will be available. I am bringing this matter to your attention because this is a serious safety issue and needs to be addressed. Unsuspecting individuals can be driving their vehicles without any knowledge of this potential safety issue. My truck is currently at the dealership and I only have the above information that was provided by the Ford dealership’s service department.
When traveling on a divided highway in the left lane with no vehicle ahead of me, as I am passing a vehicle in the right lane, just when I am about even with that vehicle beside me my truck applies the brakes firmly and unexpectedly. There is no associated warning message on the instrument panel display or audio alert like there is when it goes into collision avoidance. When it happened the first time I was very startled and worried it saw something that required braking but as it happens almost every time I pass someone I am getting used to it.
UNKNOWN: I was driving through light to moderate rain. I was following traffic probably at about 35 mph. I was driving in normal mode (no cruise control active) I saw a warning message out of the corner of my eye pop up on my dash (I didn't see what it was because it went away quickly after it came up). Soon after that, a bunch of warning messages started popping up on my dash one after the other. Then my engine shut off (dash still working, sync still working, power steering still working, brakes still working). Luckily, I was able make a turn and then coast into a gas station. Could have been a different story if I was somewhere else. I came to a stop, put it in park, (this is the unfortunate part, I franticly clicked through all the warnings without reading them), then I pressed the start button and turned the truck off. If I was the guess at what I remember seeing, I think I saw messages related to blind spot monitoring and other driver assistance stuff. After about a minute, I turned the truck back on. It turned over fine, but only idled about 20 seconds, and then turned off. Same situation as before except I wasn't moving this time. After calling a few people and a tow truck company (maybe 30 minutes later), I tried one more time to turn on the truck. This time it stayed on and idled normally. I left it on for about 10 minutes and then shut if off. I ended up having it towed because I didn't want to test my luck driving it. It is currently at a Ford dealership being serviced. The latest update that I have received is that the tech ran a diagnostic and could not duplicate the issue.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the infotainment screen failed to operate as needed. Due to the failure, the back-over protection camera and defroster system failed to operate. The dealer was initially notified of the failure and informed the contact that the parts for the repair were on backorder. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and the contact was provided the same information as provided by the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
My 2021 F150 XLT with 19,000 miles has never had functioning trailer brakes. Initially I was plagued with constant trailer wiring fault / trailer disconnected issues, and zero slide or pedal brakes, when trying to tow a travel trailer. Two separate dealerships initially dismissed my concerns because it passed their trailer simulator test. Eventually, Ford replaced the trailer wiring harness under warranty. After that, I had intermittent slide brakes that would work, but I never saw any brake output when using the pedal brakes, regardless of gain setting. Ford then replaced the trailer brake controller, which worsened the issue: once again I am getting trailer wiring faults. My slide brakes are extremely hit or miss, and when they do engage they catch and release several times. I still have zero brake output when using the pedal brakes regardless of gain. The dealership consulted a Ford engineer and assured me that my truck is perfect, I should not expect to see brake output for pedal brakes, and all is working as designed. They blamed my trailer. I demanded to test my trailer with a different F150 from the dealership and it works flawlessly - brake output on both slide and pedal brakes, no error codes. It is horrifyingly obvious that I have never had ANY trailer braking functioning with my pedal brakes now that I have compared the braking distance in the loaner truck to my truck. If I had believed Ford, I would be towing a 7,500lb trailer with zero idea that I did not have any trailer brakes. Dealership and corporate are both kicking their feet on a potential fix to this horrifyingly dangerous trailer brake problem.
