NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2022 Ford F-350. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
While driving above 6mph, my truck is supposed to have 4 rear facing camera views available per the owners manual, normal rear view, bed camera, hitch view and trailer auxiliary view. Only 2 of the cameras work as described. It has been at the dealer several times, about 3 weeks total and Ford engineering was involved in the repair attempt. At first the engineer said it should work as described in the owners manual then after 2 weeks at the dealer now they're saying because it did not work when the truck was new that its normal. This is a safety concern because I cannot check the hitch view while driving, the bed camera works so you can check a fifth wheel hitch while driving but not a bumper pull. I have contacted Ford and my case number is CXH-02221093-H2Y9Q4.
The right rear corner parking sensor on the truck has a 3 foot range. I believe these rear back up sensors normally should have a 12-15 foot range. I was backing up at an angle at slow speeds at hit a large brick mailbox. The mailbox is below the height of the closed tailgate. This could have been a adult or child. The sensor triggered but I did not stop in time. At 5mph a 3 foot distance is covered in .4 seconds. I replaced the bumper and the bumper cover as a result of this .
the ac compressor went out and national back order this has been a problem for years
When I drive over 75 miles per hour my steering wheel starts to wobble violently.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350 SD. The contact stated that while hauling a horse trailer and driving approximately 65 MPH, the rear tailgate door erroneously opened. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 25,000.
Driving down the highway, I noticed my steering wheel was loose. As I continued driving the steering wheel became more loose. It was difficult to steer, I had to hold the steering wheel tight to the column in order to keep control. I was 2 miles from home when it became this bad. I slowed downand was able to manuever into the driveway. I had the truck towed to Caskinette Ford in Carthage, NY. I am awaiting information on what part failed and allowed the steering wheel to become loose. I am lucky I was able to maintain the vehicle in the lane and was not towing at this time. I could have easily lost control and been in a serious situation with myself, my family, and other vehicles on the roadway. There were no warning lamps of any kind. There was no symptom prior to failure, it just happened going down the road.
I had a trailer hooked to my truck. while driving down the road the tailgate came down by it's self. not knoing it was down there was damage to the tailgate $4,400.00 worth risk is not being able to turn.ford in baraboo wi looked at as well as my insurance. no warning lamps or message came on
Well, driving truck at speeds of 60 mph developed wobble. After slowing down wobble went away after about a 10th of a mile. Incident does not happen when I travel under 50 mph. Has happened several times. I researched this topic on Internet and Ford claims to fix this problem in the year 2020. They claim vehicles after that year will not have this.
Trailer brakes continuously go out on multiple trailers with an associated right turn lamp fault. There was a related recall but did not cover all of the vehicles this is happening to. Manufacturer Recall Number: 22S17 NHTSA Recall Number: 22v193
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350 SD. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 MPH, the temperature gauge started rising quickly. The engine overheated message was displayed. The vehicle had been taken to the dealer who diagnosed and determined that there was coolant leaking into the cylinders and might have been caused by a defective head gasket. The dealer was unable to identify the exact location of the leak. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 317.
I purchased this truck brand new in August 2022. I have performed routine preventive maintenance on it as prescribed by the manufacturer. (FORD) At just over 96,000 miles and just days after a professional oil change service, the truck began to misfire and the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer that i purchased it from and they diagnosed a lifter and cam shaft failure. (A delamination problem.) I've researched it online and have discovered that it is a pretty common issue with this relatively new engine. I've contacted Ford consumer affairs and filed a complaint and as of yesterday Dec 14, 2023 they finally got an answer for me. They are offering to pay $5400.00 of a almost $15,000 repair. I cannot afford this! I take their offer as an admission of liabilty and that they know of the problem. As common as this is becoming I believe there should be a recall on this 7.3 litre gas engine. One blogger on the internet estimates that about 20,000 of these engines have had this same issue already. (So far) I believe it to be a defect in the parts and not a lubrication issue because its happening in different cylinders. Mine is cylinder #2. I know for a fact that this engine is being used in motor homes and RVs that won't have the 30 to 50 thousand miles on them to make this problem show itself for probably several years. Google; "Ford 7.3L problems" or "Ford 7.3L lifter and cam issues" and see for yourself what I have read. I use this truck to make a living, I paid $60,000.00 for it and expected it to last over 300,000 miles. I tried to upload photos and emails but it wouldn't allow me to. Please help!
Today 9/6/23 at 9:20pm I was driving 65mph on the highway and hit a medium sized pot hole. This caused my front end to violently shake back and forth over a prolonged period of time causing me to loose control of my vehicle. I was able to brake and the shaking stopped around 20mph while I was on the highway. This has happened to me once before almost causing an accident. Neither time was I speeding, over loaded, or driving erratically. The pot holes were things I had seen but not avoided as were are not something that has ever caused a problem for me while driving any other vehicle. I have driven daily for over 10 years.
Trailer brakes going on sporadically. Known problem…right turn lamp fault as well. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350 SD. The contact stated while starting the vehicle with the brake pedal depressed, the RPM rose to the RED line. The contact turned off the vehicle and then restarted the vehicle made sure that the accelerator pedal was not depressed. After restarting the vehicle with the brake pedal depressed, the RPMs increased immediately, and the vehicle lunged forward. The contact placed the vehicle into drive which had caused the RPMs to immediately decrease. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure due to not being able to duplicate the failure. The dealer did not have the diesel mechanic-certified staff needed to repair the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The vehicle was towed to another dealer who had the diesel mechanic-certified staff needed for the repair. The second dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired due to an aftermarket air intake. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,420.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350 SD. The contact stated that while driving over bumps in the roadway, there was a clanking sound coming from the steering column. The contact stated that the failure became progressively worse over time. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5,000.
Trailer brake control module shorts out intermittently causing trailer brakes to not work. This causes the vehicle and trailer to not be able to stop on time in a short distance. Dealer has confirmed that this is the issue. Error message is “trailer wiring fault” and “trailer disconnected” while driving with trailer attached.
25X12.00B9 IMP. THE TIRE WENT FLAT WITH NO SIGNS OF DAMAGE. REMOVED TIRE AND TOOK TO BELLE TIRE, BROWNSBURG, IN IN WHICH DAMEON THOMAS, MANAGER STATED THAT THERE WERE CRAKES INSIDE THE TIRE WHICH WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. IN THE LAST 30 DAYS HE HAD SEEN OVER 70 TIRES WITH THIS PROBLEM. HE CONTACTED YOKOHAMA DIRECTLY AND THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING. THESE TIRES HAVE LESS THAN 4000 MILES. WAITED A TOTAL 5 WEEKS FOR THEM TO TELL US THEY WILL DO NOTHING. TOOK VEHICLE TO COSTCO AND HAD 4 NEW FIRESTONE TIRES MOUNTED FOR A COST OF $1815.79. COSTCO STATED THAT ALL OF THE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE AND COULD HAVE BLOWN WHILE DRIVING. WE HAVE THE 4 TIRES IN OUR POSSION. WE ARE ASKING FOR A REFUND OF THE COST OF NEW TIRES AND LOSS OF USE OF THE VEHICLE.
I was driving off the ramp merging onto another interstate when my sunroof exploded. There was nothing above me or any cars in front or back of me. The cloth sunroof cover shows no damage. I take it to Ted Russell Ford in Knoxville, TN and they deny my warranty. Stating something the size of a basketball hit my sunroof but the cloth barrier shows no sign of damage. I spoke with customer service and they refused to warranty the issue. This is a known issue with Ford and Lincoln and have thousands of complaints concerning this issue.
Driving down the road, no vehicles nearby or trees along road, the panoramic sunroof exploded. It was slightly bowed out and then fell into the vehicle in pieces. Thankfully no passengers were in the back seat, or they would have been injured by the shattered glass.
Brake controller error. Towing a small 6500lb trailer the ford is only intermittently sending signal to the camper brakes. Error "trailer brake fault". Makes stopping at times take a longer distance. Is a potential safety concern and definitely causes wear on the ford itself. Unfortunately my Ford wasn't covered by a previous recall for this known issue even though it was made in August of 2021.
My 2022 Ford F 350 platinum truck came optioned from the factory with the Ford winch, and collision avoidance as well as adaptive cruise control. Ford has included the collision avoidance sensor in the bracket for the winch. Ford is aware that the bracket can be distorted by the winch which disables the collision avoidance, adapative cruise, and abnormal cruise creating a safety issue. Ford refuses to correct the issue
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350 SD. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH and hauling a trailer, the transmission shifted rough. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission was failing and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to another dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission control module needed to be rebooted. The TCM was rebooted, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but no failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the failure might be due to the trailer that was being towed. The failure mileage was 22,327.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH and towing a camper, the vehicle began to drift in the lane. The contact stated that he stopped depressing the accelerator pedal to slow the vehicle. The contact stated that he had to continually make steering corrections to keep the vehicle in the lane. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the steering wheel was tilted to the right. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the vehicle needed an alignment and tires needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure recurred. The contact had then taken the vehicle to a tire dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and determined that the vehicle needed an alignment. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,300.
I just bought this Ford 2022 F350 Crew Cab King Ranch 4x4 with a diesel engine. The vehicle has 163 miles on it - purchased 9 days ago. I put 100 miles driving locally on roads not exceeding 45 mph. On Jan 29 I took it on the freeway for the 1st time, it started vibrating at 50 mph and as I accelerated to 65 mph, the vibration became more pronounced. At 70 mph I could no longer read the instruments because of the vibration. This is a brand new truck!. I see many others reporting similar behavior on the Super Duties - the "death wobble". I am a degreed mechanical design engineer retired from a major automotive company, I have seen many "causes" and "so called corrections", but seems no one really has a fix. As the vibration goes on, many components in the front end wear out prematurely, in my opinion, having experienced this problem with a brand new truck, I believe the engine was not mounted properly either by design or assembly. This is aggravated by heavy front ends with the large engines not adequately supported. I had a 2011 Super Duty that had the same problem and got worse over time. I tried to compensate for it by adding weight in the box. It slowed the progression of the worsening of the vibration but did not fix it. The manufacturer should be forced to recall and correct the root cause.
Someone broke into my truck by using a wrench of some sort on the door handle one week after buying it.Also Stole the front Ford emblem.
I purchased the vehicle in 2022 and in January of 2023 my engine gave a malfunction indicator light flashing with only 45000 miles in it. They claimed that the hydraulic lifter and pushrod and camshaft were broken and damaged causing metal to spread throughout the engine. It took about a month to get my vehicle back. In May of 2023 the second engine gave out again with about 38000 miles on it. I was informed the same exact parts failed in the same cylinder causing metal debris to spread throughout the engine again. Ford is knowingly selling vehicles with these defective parts that could potentially put me and my family in danger. There are many videos and forums with ford technicians putting images of these parts online. I’m now on engine number three in less than a year and at two different dealerships in different states was informed that they are seeing this trend. It’s been six weeks now that my vehicle is at the dealer. I am an owner operator and this truck is my only livelihood. Another failure will put me out of business if not the. Potentially in harms way.
Hit a bump and the truck shook out of control. Better known as the Death Wobble. I was driving with a fully loaded 38 foot goose neck trailer( 8tons). There was no where to pull over and had to literally stop in the middle of the road to regain control.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Transfer case shift motor failure, transmission slipping in 3,2,1 gear and when accelerating from 7-8 gear. Electronics on dash have gone out while driving multiple times. Tailgate opened up while driving multiple times. Trailer brake. Drivers side faulty window (glass) fracture across entire window when not moving. Yes, all can be inspected or paper work reviewed for repairs complete. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Could not use 4 wheel drive in icy/snowy conditions to get to destination. Transmission slipping caused my foot to come off brake pedal and immediately had to reengage brake pedal due to the force of the transmission slipping (like the transmission was falling out from under the truck), nearly hitting the car in front of me on both occasions. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. All issues have been confirmed by local Ford dealer and fixed by certified Ford mechanic, but once issue is repaired, the electronics issues and transmission issue continue to arise (exact same issues). Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes, by the dealership (Ford representatives). Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, no warning signs for any of the defects other than a letter for the tailgate recall, brake recall and wiper recall.
Today I was getting ready to blow some snow out of my driveway and had to move my truck. It's normally parked at a slight incline where putting it in park is usually sufficient and have never needed to use a parking brake. When I re-parked the truck, I had to put it in 4WD to get up in the driveway because we had a lot of wet slushy snow. So after I get it parked, I put it back in 2WD, put it in park, and turn off the ignition. I then got out of the truck and started over to the snow blower to get back to work. I suddenly started seeing the truck rolling backwards as if it was in neutral (which is was not). I was running towards the truck to try and jump in and stop it, and then it suddenly stopped on it's own. But I bet it rolled back a good 3 or 4 feet before it finally stopped. It actually set off the alarm system in the truck, which was no surprise rolling that far. I feel this is definitely a safety issue because if a small child was behind the truck, or even myself, it could have been disastrous.
The vehicle has a Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of 30,000 LBS. While towing, the vehicle would show on the dash at intermittent times "Trailer not connected." When this occurs, the trailer brakes are no longer operating placing all braking on the tow vehicle with the potential for brake fade or complete brake failure and catastrophic loss. This intermittent failure of the electrical brake system does not occur on other tow vehicles that were equipped with after-market brake controllers, such as Tekonsha. The vehicle was brought into the Ford Dealership to look into the issue. Ford had the truck for nearly two weeks and could not figure out the problem. After much self-research, it was determined that the factory installed brake controller cannot discriminate between trailers using electric brakes and trailers using electric/hydraulic brakes. The fix is to install an actuator (ETrailer Code DX35FR - Adapter Module for BrakeRite Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator - OE Ford, GM Brake Controllers) on the trailer to provide resistance that will allow the factory installed controller to recognize the trailer/hydraulic brakes. A technician also advised that a work around would be to wire in small magnets to the wiring of the trailer to provide the resistance. The forums state that this occurs with trailers five years or older for which there are thousands on the road. This limitation/defect applies to the majority of trailers being towed on the highways today. Failure to advise drivers of this limitation/defect and the intermittent sequencing of the disconnection leaves non-professional, recreational drivers at significant risk of brake failure while towing up to nearly 30,000 pounds. NHTSA should investigate why standard after-market brake controllers have no issues of this kind while the "supposedly" state-of-the-art new vehicle controllers are limited. It is my understanding that this same issue is found with GM and possibly RAM products.
This vehicle has 360 bird eye camera system. When going in reverse, if the front camera has more light then the rear camera, the rear camera display is dark/black. Result is it is impossible to see if you are backing into a person/object etc. This occurs when backing up into a shaded area (heavy trees in a parking lot, parking awning, or garage. This is easily reproducible, occurs every time and many owners are discussing it on forums. Once the front camera is also in the shade you can see objects behind you.
When connected to 5th Wheel trailer, trailer brakes strength is very weak. Even when increasing the trailer braking gain up to 10 still not completely stopping trailer.
Unknown what the cause is. Put the vehicle in drive and once began moving forward, the transmission tool light came on, then shortly after the engine light appeared. Inside the cab got loud and the truck barely moved. Have called all local dealers. The dealer purchased the truck from 3mo ago has no one available to service. Will not diagnose, because the tool light is on. Next nearest said they are not providing appts, because they are several weeks out. Stated to drop off the vehicle, but unknown when they can get to it. A third can only diagnose a few weeks from now. As soon as I said the transmission was having trouble, the service tech immediately asked if it was a F-350 diesel. This has to be a recurring problem, for a specific question like that to be asked. Unable to get a diagnostic, as no dealer currently available.
Multiple fail alerts for the transmission and engine. The transmission was not shifting gears, very loud noise inside cab and vehicle would barley move at times. Initially, dealer said nothing wrong and cleared the dash alert. Issue returned the next time it was driven. Multiple alerts stated the transmission torque converter clutch was not operating/failed, along with a four-wheel drive fault.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350 SD. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH with the trailer hitched to the vehicle, the vehicle downshifted suddenly to 37 MPH. There was no warning light illuminated. The passenger's side of the trailer went sideways and blocked the roadway; however, the trailed remained hitched to the vehicle. The contact then disengaged the towing mode and was able to drive the trailer into a ditch in order to clear the roadway. The contact then drove to his residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the integrated trailer brake control module software was updated under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V193000 (Electrical System). Additionally, the contact stated that there was no oil in the rear axle differential. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 5,800.
The tailgate for my 2022 F-350 has opened while towing several times over the last two months. During one of these instances, the open tailgate struck and damaged my fifth wheel recreational vehicle (RV) trailer during a low speed left hand turn. The area where the tailgate hit our trailer is the battery compartment for our RV. If this where to happen at a high speed it has the potential to cause additional significant damage to a trailer and potentially cause consequential accidents while the vehicle is in motion. There was an open Customer Satisfaction Program opened by Ford associated with this issue and my vehicle's VIN (campaign # 21M05) in May 2022. Due to this alert, we brought our vehicle into a dealer in June 2022 (before towing our RV) and asked them to address this issue. At the time the Ford dealer declined to address the issue because there wasn't "a problem yet." The damage incident then happened and we brought our vehicle into a second Ford dealer (we were then living in our RV on the road so unable to return to our original dealer). They agreed (in writing) that there was an unintended tailgate opening while we were towing that caused damage, however they indicated that they didn't have an approved repair procedure from Ford at that time. We recently found out that Ford has since approved a procedure (on approximately 7/22/2022) and again brought our Ford into a third Ford dealer for repairs (8/11/2022). Ford is willing to fix the damage to the vehicle associated with this accident, however, they have been unresponsive regarding the consequential damages to our fifth wheel RV (bay door needs to be replaced with an estimated cost of more than $1,000). The fact that this keeps happening and that the tailgate is able to open while towing / while the vehicle is in drive is a massive issue. What if this happened while carrying a load on the highway? There could be serious injury. For reference, my Ford case number is: 37688945
Ford F-350 SWR, long bed, King Ranch. Purchase date: 6/20/2022, new. Problem with this truck is steering wander. While traveling extra attention has to be given to the location of the truck. Take your eyes off the road for a second and it's scary. You are assured you will be in a different location than expected, either off the road or on the wrong side of the yellow line. I pray I don't hit a pedestrian or cross over the yellow line into another vehicle. Since 2011 I have purchased 2 F150's, 1 F250, 3 F350's. None of the previous models and only the 2022 F350 had this characteristic. The wander was confirmed by a supervisor of the Surry County paramedics. He was referring to a F450. This is unsafe to drive. It should not be difficult to fix, just make them like the older models. It's ironic but the alarm came on saying i needed a coffee break. There are many cost saving implementations on this truck which may be ok but not this one. This problem has been taken to the selling dealer but they said could not fine a problem, but the toe-in was increased.
I purchased this vehicle on 6/7/2022. Ford let me know there was a recall 2 days later. Ford tells me that I cannot drive the vehicle off of their lot until the parts have been replaced. Ford has no date available as to when the parts will be available. I would like to be able to drive the new truck I purchased. I have not even picked up the truck from the dealer.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350 SD. The contact stated that while hauling a trailer, the brakes failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who updated and replaced the Auxiliary Power Interface Module (APIM) several times. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. Additionally, the radio turned on without driver interaction. The contact stated that the Forward Collision Avoidance system and the mirrors were turning on and off, the crash alert was engaged, and the brake was applied without driver input. The steering wheel was vibrating. The manufacturer was contacted and declined a buyback of the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 100.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350 SD. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 MPH with the adaptive cruise control activated, while attempting to decrease the speed, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated to 80 MPH. The contact disengaged the adaptive cruise control however, several unknown warning lights illuminated and adaptive cruise control remained activated. The brake pedal was depressed and the adaptive cruise control disengaged. After restarting the vehicle, the adaptive cruise control performed as designed. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.
I purchased a new 2022 F350 Lariat with a sliding rear window. After owning the unit for three weeks, the rear window exploded while driving down the highway. There were no cars on the highway at night to have thrown a rock at the truck and cause the damage. Temperature was about 55-60 deg F.
The fuel lines are made of a plastic that attracts rodents. At 3000 miles on the odometer mine were chewed thru, I remote started it and saw the fuel dumping and spraying on the ground. Had I not seen or smelt the gas and got into the vehicle before starting it. It would have caught fire and burnt to the ground. Ford would not take ownership of this design flaw, rodent damage is not under their warranty, so I had to pay for the repair which included a 34 gallon fuel cell replacement. I would imagine many other vehicles including the recent SUV fires might have a similar issue. Once the fire starts, there's no way to establish root cause for the failure because all evidence would be destroyed.
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350 SD. The contact became aware that there was fuel leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel lines were chewed on by rodents causing the fuel leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 3,167. Update: The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350 SD. The contact became aware that there was fuel leaking from the vehicle upon remote startup. Gasoline was spraying from the vehicle and was noticed by sight and smell when approaching the vehicle. The vehicle was flatbed towed to the dealer, after being cleared from being a fire hazard by the Lake County Fire Dept claim [XXX]. The dealer diagnosed that the tank vent and nearby fuel lines were chewed on by rodents causing the fuel leak. The vehicle was not repaired under warranty. Plant-based plastic mono-wall fuel lines and tank were replaced at the owners expense. Nothing has been changed to prevent the failure from reoccurring. Old parts were retained by the owner. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The exact failure mileage was 3,167. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).”
The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty. The contact received a notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V536000 (Power Train); However, the local dealer informed the contact that the parts for the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue but did not provide any assistance. The contact had not experienced a failure. Unable to confirm parts not available.
02/05/2022: Severe ice storm in Northeast. Windshield adequately thawed and cleared with ice pieces and snow remaining in windshield wiper "bay". Upon energizing windshield wipers in preparation for departure, wipers made several clearing swipes with minor resistance when the driver's side wiper disengaged. After investigation the following theoretical engineering/design flaws were noted: 1) windshield wiper arm hub is larger than splined shaft not allowing 360-degree engagement on spined shaft. Ford has chosen a keyseat in the shaft and a keyway in the hub combined with a key to make the assembly a keyed joint in what appears to be an effort to make a satisfactory drive assembly. 2) The wiper arm is retained on the splined shaft with a spring-loaded lever recessed in a groove. This spring-loaded lever is neither strong nor protected. 3) the wiper arm and blade are heavily spring-loaded on the windshield. My theory is that the ice debris became lodged beneath the wiper arm hub forcing the wiper arm retention lever open (note: lever can be displaced by your thumbnail) popping the wiper arm up with the assistance of the heavily preloaded spring force downward on the windshield. The key fell out when the arm was displaced which left the assembly disengaged from the splined shaft. The key was found in the bay. It is my contention that this assembly poses a serious safety issue for these vehicles. They are purchased to be used in inclement weather (i.e.: snowplowing) and there is not a reliable windshield wiper arm to shaft retention device nor an adequate drive spline. Had this happened while I was driving down the road (especially in inclement weather), it would have been an immediate and severe safety crisis which could have been disastrous.
I see there is a software recall update on trailer brake controller but not sure if that is the issue. The manual squeeze brakes did not work first time 5th wheel hooked up. The 7 pin trailer clip goes into a 5 pin harness and a 2 pin harness. The 2 pin is the brake control for the trailer. I traced the wiring to the next connector.. When the wiring was unplugged and replugged in the connection and braking system worked. It is located on driver side next to spare tire. The error was happening on both the truck bed 7 pin connector and hitch connector. So issue had to be in line. The manual squeeze trigger had power because unconnected error shows on dash when squeezed and not prior to that. This puts the issue between trigger and connector split the two 7 pin trailer tow connectors. Also since the trailer is grounded to truck via the hitch it means the positive wire in that connector is the issue.
Page 84 of the owners manual states to open locked rear doors to pull the handle twice. The first pull unlocks the door the second pull opens the door. This function does not work. The dealer even tested at least 2 other 2022 F-350's and this did not work on those either. In the event of a crash, car jacking, fire or being just left in the vehicle and the doors are not unlocked the rear passengers doors will not unlock and passengers can not exit the vehicle via the doors using just the handle. The only way to unlock the rear doors if front seats are not accessable/danger to life exists is to pull up on the lock indicator stalk on the rear of the rear doors. The dealer I bought this vehicle from looked over all of this information and confirmed it to not work as described in the manual and even contacted Ford engineering. Ford's response is that this feature my no longer be available and that the owners manual is either not correct or is not available yet for the vehicle. This information was directly to the dealer that inspected the vehicle and confirmed that none of the F-350 crew cabs they have are able to perform this function.
My husband and I purchased a new 2022 F-350 Truck on 8/10/21. The tailgate has come open three times while the truck was being driven down the road. This is the same problem these trucks have had since the 2017 came out - six years now. We have had the truck into the local Ford dealership three times -- twice for them to run "tests". The second time the tailgate came open on its own, it hit the trailer we were towing and damaged the tailgate, which now has to be replaced. Since this problem has been going on for so long, we wanted you to know that this problem has not been fixed and is happening to the brand-new 2022 models coming off the line.
