PURCHASED A FORD FIVE-HUNDRED BRAND NEW IN 2006. AT LESS THAN 45K MILES THE A/C NO LONGER IS FUNCTIONAL, UNLESS DRIVEN AT HIGHER SPEEDS (SUCH AS THE CASE ON HIGHWAYS). I HAVE HAD BOTH LOW AND HIGH SIDE PRESSURE VALVES CHECKED, THERMOSTAT REPLACED, AND A/C UNIT FLUSHED TO NO AVAIL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE IT BEGAN TO LUNGE FORWARD. EXTREME PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM SURGING FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS AND THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER INFORMED HER THAT THIS WAS VERY COMMON FAILURE AMONG HER YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000. UPDATED 11/05/10. *LJ
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP AND HAVING HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THEN LETTING GO THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE. THE CONTACT HAD TO FORCE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AND THEY STATED THAT THE BODY THROTTLE CONTROL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPAIRS DUE TO THE BACK ORDER ON THE PART. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD ABNORMALLY STALL OR JERK VIOLENTLY WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT ALSO EXPERIENCED ABNORMAL SURGING, WHICH WOULD OCCUR FREQUENTLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD GONE INTO FAILSAFE MODE, CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,000. UPDATED 12/7/10 *CN
I OWN A 2006 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. CAR SURGES FORWARD EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED. IT DOES THIS IN REVERSE ALSO - EVEN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED. I HAVE FOUND THAT THE CAR DOES THIS MAINLY WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS TURNED ON. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO TRY TO PARK THE CAR WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON. THE CAR SURGES FORWARD AND I HAVE ALMOST RUN INTO OTHER CARS WHEN TRYING TO PARK. THE DEALER RETRIEVED THE CODE FROM THE COMPUTER. THEY APPLIED THE LATEST UPDATES TO THE COMPUTER AND CLEARED THE CODE. THE DEALER TOLD ME IF THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, I WOULD HAVE TO GET A NEW THROTTLE BODY AT APPROX. $400. SEVERAL WEEKS HAVE GONE BY AND THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE. IT IS SCARY! I CALLED THE DEALER AND ASKED THEM TO ORDER A NEW THROTTLE BODY. IT APPEARS TO BE ON BACKORDER UNTIL 8/31/10. SO I AM ON A WAITING LIST. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY NEEDS TO TAKE CAR OF. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL!!! FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD MAKE THIS RIGHT. I AM DISAPPOINTED IN FORD. I HAVE OWNED FORD VEHICLES FOR 20 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER BEEN SO DISSATISFIED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD FIVE HUNDRED. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30-35 MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED RAPIDLY. HE ENGAGED THE BRAKES IMMEDIATELY TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED 7 TO 8 TIMES AND THE FAILURE ALSO HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE. HE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY ATTEMPTED UNSUCCESSFULLY TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE TWENTY TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I HAVE OWNED MY 2006 FORD 500 FOR 5 YRS AND HAVE HAD AND ISSUE FOR THE LAST 2 YRS. WHILE BRAKING, THE CAR WILL LURCH AND I MEAN REALLY JUMP FORWARD (OR ALSO IN REVERSE) WHILE RPM'S SURGE/REV EXTREMELY HIGH CAUSING ME TO PRESS VERY,VERY HARD ON THE BRAKES AT TIMES SLAMMING DOWN TO KEEP THE CAR FROM GOING OUT OF CONTROL BY ITSELF. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL STALL WHEN THE RPM'S ARE DROPPING DOWN. THIS HAPPENS AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF DAY AND SEEMS TO BE MORE OFTEN WHEN IT IS WARMER. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE SLOWING INTO A PARKING SPACE, BACKING UP, PULLING AWAY FROM STOPPING AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. IT IS COMPLETELY RANDOM AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN OR IF IT WILL HAPPEN.I AM ALWAYS EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS WHEN THERE ARE PEOPLE AROUND WHEN I SLOW DOWN TO LESS THEN 15MPH OR BACK UP. THERE IS SOMETHING MECHANICALLY WRONG WITH THIS CAR. IT SHOULD NEVER BE IN CONTROL OF MOVING BY ITSELF WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. IT IS A VERY SCARY SITUATION AND CAN HAPPEN MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. I HAVE TAKEN IN TO DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THESE "SYMPTOMS" BUT THEY JUST SAY THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE AND WILL HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT WHILE IT IS HAPPENING. I WOULD LIKE FORD TO TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY AS THIS SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING TO MOST 500'S AND IT IS WELL KNOWN BY MANY BUT NOT ACKNOWLEDGED BY FORD. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY WHILE IN REVERSE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AT THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY, WHICH HE ADVISED WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I HAVE A 2006 FORD FIVE HUNDRED AND THE PROBLEM IS WHEN I AM DRIVING AT A NORMAL SPEED AND HAVE TO SLOW DOWN AND THEN TAKE OFF THE CAR MAKE A STRONG BUCKING HIT, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A MOTOR MOUNT, THEY REPLACED THE MOUNT BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO DO THE SAME THING, THE WARRANTY WAS JUST ABOUT TO RUN OUT WHEN I TOOK IT THE SECOND TIME AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY, WHEN THE CHECKED WITH THE WARRANTY THEY TOLD ME IT HAD EXPIRED. I HAD TOLD THEM THAT THIS WAS A FOLLOW UP FROM THE FIRST TIME I TOOK THE CAR IN BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING, IN SEARCHING I FOUND OUT THAT FORD WAS AWARE THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION HAD PROBLEMS AND THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT IT, THEY NEED TO RECALL THESE CARS FIX THE PROBLEM THAT THEY HAVE CAUSED. 2010 DRIVING ON HIGHWAY IN VIRGINIA, CAR WAS ACCELERATING ON IT'S OWN, IT WAS LIKE THE CAR WAS IN CONTROL AND NOT THE DRIVER. PULLED OVER AND CAR STALLED, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK CAR TO FORD DEALER WAS TOLD THROTTLE CONTROL ASSEMBLY. 52,200 MILES HAD IT REPLACED. CONTACTED FORD OCT 2010. NOVEMBER 2012 FORD ISSUE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM, FINALLY REIMBURSED 2013. JULY 2014, 100,457MILES SAME PROBLEM AGAIN HAD TO AGAIN REPLACE THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM. *TR
THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR OF MY 2006 FORD 500 FILLS WITH WATER EVERYTIME IT RAINS. I CANNOT FIND WAY TO RELEASE THE WATER AND THE DOOR IS VERY HEAVY NOW. I AM WORRIED THE DOOR WILL BE DAMAGED AND MY BABY'S CAR SEAT IS NEXT TO IT. I ACTUALLY NOTICED WATER IN THE DOOR QUITE SOME TIME AGO, BUT JUST REALIZED HOW BAD IT HAS GOTTEN AFTER OUR LATEST BAD THUNDERSTORMS/HEAVY RAINS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,600.
2006 FORD FIVE HUNDRED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY ONCE THE CAR HAS WARMED UP. WHEN SLOWING DOWN THE CAR SHIFTS ABRUPTLY AND ALSO SHAKES THE CAR. WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR SHIFTS DOWN HARD THAN NORMAL THEN UPSHIFTS AND OR DOWN SHIFTS WHILE ACCELERATING AT A NORMAL PICK UP. SOMETIMES THE TRANSMISSION GOES INTO A FALSE NEUTRAL THEN BUT IF THE FOOT IS REMOVED FROM THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR IS STILL REVVING UP. VERY ODD. THIS ISSUE STARTED TO SHOW UP AROUND 52, 000 MILES AND I HAVE CONTACTED A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND ASKED IF FORD INTEND ON FIXING. THE RESPONSE WAS "THERE ARE NO PLANS FOR REPAIRING THE ISSUE". THIS PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED IN CONSUMER REPORTS BUT THE WRITE ONLY STATED HOW THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ABRUPTLY". I DO NOT CONSIDER MYSELF AN ELDER BUT I DO KNOW MANY ELDERLY PEOPLE DRIVE THESE CARS AND HOW IT COULD POTENTIALLY FRIGHTEN AN ELDERLY DRIVER. BASICALLY "THIS SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY FORD BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT". *TR
FROM THE DAY I BOUGHT THE CAR THE A/C HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY. IT ONLY COOLS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR WHEN TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE IS LESS THAN 70 DEGREES, THE ENGINE HAS NEVER IDLED SMOOTHLY AND WATER COLLECTS IN THE DOORS. THE MAIN ISSUE I'VE BEEN HAVING IS THAT IT SURGES AT STOP LIGHTS AND TOTALLY SHUTS DOWN GOING DOWN THE ROAD. MOTOR, GAUGES EVERYTHING SHUTS DOWN SOMETIMES FOR 8-10 SECONDS. THIS IS SPORADIC AND MORE COMMON WHEN THE A/C IS IN USE. I HAVE HAD THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED AND REPROGRAMMED SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO CHANGE WHAT SO EVER. I JUST HAD A NEW ONE INSTALLED AND IT SHUT DOWN ON ME WITHIN 1 MILE OF DEALERSHIP. IT HAS BEEN VERY FRUSTRATING TO SAY THE LEAST. I'VE BEEN SAYING IT IS SOMETHING WITH THE A/C SINCE DAY ONE BUT ALL THEY WANTED TO DO IS REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. I AM AT MY WITS END AND JUST WANT IT FIXED! *TR
2006 FORD 500. TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND BUCKS WHILE ACCELERATING AND BRAKING. THE PROBLEMS OCCURS ALOT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION STARTS TO WARM UP AND THE TEMP OUTSIDE IS ABOVE 50. IT SEEM TO START AT ABOUT 55000. *TR
REAR BRAKES PREMATURELY WEAR DOWN TO LESS THAN 2MM OF PAD REMAINING AFTER 11K MILES. *TR
TRAVELING SOUTH ON I-26 ACROSS THE TN/NC BORDER THROUGH SAM'S GAP ON A SNOWY DAY LED ME TO DRIVE VERY SLOW AND COME TO A STOP AT THE TRUCK INFORMATION AREA AT THE TOP OF THE HILL. WHEN I SAW A LARGE TRANSFER TRUCK PULL OUT ONTO THE ROAD AND PROCEED DOWN THE HILL I FELT IT WAS SAFE TO FOLLOW. THIS TRUCK WAS MOVING A LOT FASTER THAN I WAS AND I WAS "COVERING THE BRAKE" AND TAPPING IT OCCASIONALLY DOWN THE STEEP INCLINE, BUT THERE WAS ICE ON THE ROAD AND WHEN I TAPPED THE BRAKES THE CAR BEGAN TO SPIN AND HIT THE CONCRETE MEDIAN ON ALL 4 CORNERS OF THE VEHICLE WITH PRETTY STRONG FORCE. THE SEAT BELT CORRECTLY LOCKED DOWN ON THE DRIVER SIDE, BUT THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY. THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND I COULD SMELL LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING. I ASSUMED THIS WAS THE COMPOUND USED IN THE AIR BAG. WHEN THE POLICE ARRIVED, I WAS GIVEN A CITATION FOR DRIVING TOO FAST FOR THE CONDITIONS AND ANOTHER BECAUSE THE INSURANCE RECENTLY LAPSED. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOOK THE CAR TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL (DRIVING TOO FAST FOR THE CONDITIONS BY THE WAY) AND DECLARED THE CAR DRIVABLE SINCE THERE WERE NO FLUIDS LEAKING AND THE CAR WOULD STILL CRANK. THE FUEL SYSTEM HAD TO BE RESET, BECAUSE IT CORRECTLY SHUT OFF DUE TO THE IMPACT. THE SEATBELT WAS LOCKED DOWN COMPLETELY AND WOULD NOT RELEASE. SINCE THERE WAS NO SNOW BEYOND THE SAM'S GAP AREA, I DECIDED TO DRIVE HOME AND PARK THE CAR BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE MONEY FOR A HOTEL OR FOR ADDITIONAL TOWING AND THE PERSON AT THE NC WELCOME CENTER SAID WE WERE EXPERIENCING BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. SO RATHER THAN FREEZE TO DEATH OR ASK SOMEONE ELSE TO PUT THEMSELVES IN DANGER TO COME GET ME I DROVE HIM WITH THE AIRBAG / SEATBELT LIGHTS ALARMING. THE BODY SHOP PERSON I SPOKE WITH SAID THAT I NEEDED TO DETERMINE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE RESTRAINT/AIRBAG SYSTEM BEFORE THEY CAN WORK ON IT BECAUSE OF THE RISK OF THE SYSTEM DEPLOYING WITHOUT WARNING. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WARNING LAMP WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 133,000.
2006 FORD FIVE HUNDRED, AT THE 86,000 MARK INSTRUMENT PANEL STARTED ACTING UP. ALL OR SOME OF THE WARNING LIGHTS (WRENCH, SEAT BELT, ENGINE, ETC.) WOULD ALL COME ON AND TURN OFF, AT DIFFERENT TIMES AND WEATHER CONDITIONS. WHEN THEY CAME ON THE RADIO SOUND WOULD LOWER TOO. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS ALL THE GAGES, EXCEPT THE AMOUNT OF GAS, WOULD GO TO ZERO AS WELL, MAKING IT IMPOSIBLE TO KNOW YOUR SPEED. CALLED AROUND AND FOUND IT WOULD COST $700 TO FIX. THIS SEEMS TO BE A FORD MANUFACTURE PROBLEM. I CONTACTED FORD AND WAS TOLD IN SO MANY WORDS THAT WAS MY PROBLEM SINCE THEY WERE NOT TOLD TO FIX IT BY NHTSA. *TR
1. TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN ON A SPECIAL 40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IN A 2006 FORD 500( HAS APPRX. 64,000 MILES ON IT). 2. WHILE TRAVELING WE NOTICE THE SMELL OF SMOKE, THOUGHT IT WAS COMING FROM A SOURCE OUTSIDE, NO SMOKE IN VEHICLE, PULLED OVER TO INVESTIGATE, LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND THERE WAS NO SMELL OF SMOKE, PROCEEDED TRAVELING AND THE SMELL OF SMOKE CONTINUE, PASSENGER NOTICE A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE TRUNK WHILE LOOKING AT THE REAR WINDOW, DRIVER PULLED OVER AND POPPED THE TRUNK, THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IMMEDIATELY...80-85% OF CAR WAS DESTROYED. 3.NOTHING. FORD DEALERSHIP THAT HAS SERVICED THE VEHICLE ( OVER 25 TIMES DURING OWNERSHIP) IS DENYING ANY RESPONSIBILITY. *TR UPDATED 05/26/10 *BF ACCORDING TO THE FIRE REPORT, THE FIRE'S ARE OF ORGIN WAS IN THE REAR SECTION OF THE VEHICLE. REFERENCE ORIGINAL VOQ#10301954. MY CAR HAD A FIRE IN THE TRUNK WHILE WE WERE DRIVNG. THE TRUNK WAS LOADED WITH CLOTHES AND OTHER ITEMS. A FIRE OCCURED AND TOTALED THE CAR. UPON INSPECTION BY A FIRE FORENSIC INVESTIGATOR, IT WAS DETERMINED THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM A WIRING HARNES ON THE RIGHT REAR SIDE OF THE TRUNK THAT GOES TO THE REAR LIGHTS. THE WIRING HARNESS CHAFED AGAINST THE BODY CAUSING A SHORT TO GROUND THAT LED TO THE FIRE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,000.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I HAVE A 06' FORD FIVE HUNDRED THAT I PURCHASED CERTIFIED USED IN 07'. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS I STARTED EXPERIENCING SURGING PROBLEMS ESPECIALLY WHEN THE A/C WAS RUNNING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IN 08' BUT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. ON EACH RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. ON MY LAST VISIT TO THE DEALER THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND SAID THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED ME TO REAREND A VEHICLE IN 2009. FORD IS NOT RESPONDING TO THE PROBLEM AT ALL. AFTER 3+ YEARS OF TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS I ALL BUT HAVE GIVEN UP. THAT IS UNTIL TODAY WHEN THE REPAIR SHOP THAT I USE ON A REGULAR BASIS HIRED A NEW MECHANIC WHO WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM TURNS OUT TO BE THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSORS IN THE THROTTLE BODY. IT TOOK THE MECHANIC OVER 2 HOURS TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PROBLEM. THE UNFORTUNATE THING IS THE COST OF A NEW THROTTLE BODY IS OVER $500 THEN ADD LABOR. IF I HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED THERE IS NO GUARANTEE FROM FORD THAT THE NEW THROTTLE BODY WON'T DO THE SAME THING. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT FORD HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND IS NOT WILLING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AND BACK THEIR PRODUCTS. *KB

I OWN A 2006 FORD FIVE HUNDRED WHICH I PURCHASED USED WITH APPROX. 12000 MILES. PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE FORD RECALLED IT AND PUT NEW BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ON THE REAR. IT NOW HAS 29000 MILES ON IT AND THE REAR PADS ARE WORN OUT AND FORD SAYS THE ROTORS NEED REPLACING. THE BRAKES DRAG IN THE REAR. FORD SAYS THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED ON LINE AND FOUND A LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS IDENTICAL TO MINE. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DESIGN PROBLEM AND A SAFETY HAZARD SINCE THERE ARE REPORTS OF THE BRAKES WEARING COMPLETELY INTO THE ROTOR AND LOCKING CAUSING ACCIDENTS. THE OWNER HAS NO CLUE SINCE THEY WEAR OUT SO FAST. FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR DESIGN FLAW BEFORE THERE ARE DEATHS CAUSED BY THIS FLAW. *TR

AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE IN A PARKING GARAGE THE ENIGINE REVED UP AND JUMPED HITTING A BEAM IN THE GARAGE. UPON IMPACT THE ENGINE WAS STILL REVED SO I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND BACK ON. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV UP AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND YELLOW WRENCH ILLUMINATED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP IN WHICH THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE CAR WAS DRIVEN TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP FOR REPAIRS. TOTAL COST OVER $1200 YESTERDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2011, (MILEAGE 108000 AND SPEED FROM 0-40 MPH) AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. EACH TIME I WOULD STOP THE ENGINE WOULD REV AND WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE IT WOULD JUMP AND REV. NOT WANTING A REPEAT OF THE LAST ACCIDENT, I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC NEAR WORK WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN ALONG WITH THE ENGINE MOUNT. TOTAL COST $1076 AFTER RESAERCHING THIS PROBLEM IT SEEMS THAT IT IS A TYPICAL ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. SHE PULLED INTO TRAFFIC, BUT THE VEHICLE HAD NO SPEED. IT WAS MAKING A STRANGE NOISE AND SHE HAD NO CRUISE CONTROL. THEN A STRANGE SYMBOL APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. IT WAS A PICTURE OF A WRENCH. THE CONSUMER LOOKED IT UP IN THE MANUAL, AND IT SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND TO CALL THE DEALER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE PART WAS NO LONGER BEING MADE, DUE TO THE COMPANY WHO WAS MAKING THEM FOR FORD WENT BANKRUPT AND THERE WAS NO DATE AS TO WHEN FORD WOULD BE PUTTING THE PART BACK INTO PRODUCTION. *JB

AT RANDOM TIMES THE VEHICLE WILL SURGE FORWARD WHEN IN DRIVE, WITHOUT PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDDLE. VEHICLE WILL THEN STALL. AFTER WAITING A MINUTE BEFORE RESTARTING IT WILL OPERATE NORMALLY, THEN DO THE SAME THING A DAY OR TWO LATER. THIS VEHICLE HAS NO AFTER MARKET EQUIPMENT INSTALLED AND NO CORRECTIVE ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN AT THIS TIME. *TR
WHEN SHIFTING INTO GEAR, OR WHEN TAKING FOOT OFF OF BRAKE AFTER SITTING FOR A BRIEF PERIOD, CAR LUNGES FORWARD (OR BACKWARDS) WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAS CAUSED MANY NEAR ACCIDENTS INVOLVING BUILDINGS, OTHER AUTOS, AND PEDESTRIANS, VERY VERY DANGEROUS. FORD DEALERS CLAIM THEY CAN NEVER DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHILE IT IS IN THEIR SHOP. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR FLOW SENSOR, TP SENSOR, AND THROTTLE BODY WERE THE REASONS FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY ONLY COVERED THE AIR FLOW SENSOR. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THE OTHER TWO COMPONENTS SHOULD ALSO BE COVERED AND THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY DEFECT THAT NEEDS CORRECTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,647.
SINCE 2009 MY FORD 500 HAS HAD ISSUES WITH NO A/C AND SURGING. THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON (FORD) AND EVENTUALLY FOUND IT TO SUPPOSEDLY BE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. HE DISCOVERED SEVERAL OTHER CONSUMERS WHO WERE EXPERIENCING FAILURES WITH THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGES ON THEIR VEHICLES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 30,544.
ON JAN 8, 2009, I HAD TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 1050 MILES FROM OKLAHOMA TO OHIO. WHILE IN OHIO, 6 INCHES OF SNOW HAD FALLEN, AND THE ROADS WERE SLICK WITH SNOW AND ICE. IN PREPARING FOR MY RETURN TRIP ON JAN 11, THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON, AND THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN CONTROL AND BRAKING IN THE VEHICLE. UPON DRIVING FURTHER, THE TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO REVERSE WITH A HUGE "BANG" SOUND AND VIBRATION. THE VEHICLE'S CVT TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT CHANGE GEARS IN DRIVE WHEN THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. UPON TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF, AND BACK ON, ALL LIGHTS WOULD GO OFF, AND COME BACK ON WITHIN 5 MINUTES. AFTER THE 6TH RESTART, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT, AFTER A FEW RESTARTS, DID NOT COME BACK ON. HOWEVER, THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS STAYED ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 650 MILES. AFTER THAT TIME, ALL LIGHTS WENT OUT, BUT THE RPMS WENT FROM 2000 TO 3500 ON THEIR OWN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL ON A FLAT ROAD. THAT CORRECTED ITSELF ABOUT 100 MILES LATER. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER ON MY RETURN, THEY TOLD ME THAT SINCE NO LIGHTS WERE ON, AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOW ACTING NORMALLY, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. MY FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRES IN 14 DAYS, AND I AM NOT SURE IF I'LL BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM TO THE DEALER BY THAT TIME. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT BLAMED THE MALFUNCTION ON THE COLD WEATHER AND THE SNOW, BUT THE AWD VEHICLE WITH TRACTION CONTROL WAS, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, MANUFACTURED TO DEAL WITH SNOW AND COLD WEATHER. ONE DOES NOT NEED AWD, TRACTION CONTROL OR ABS DURING DRY, WARM DAYS. *TR
