THIS MORNING MY IGNITION CYLINDER WENT BAD. WENT TO GO START THE CAR AND IT WOULDN'T TURN. *NLM
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING THE SECOND GEAR PEDAL BECAME STUCK, AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT A VERY UNCONTROLLABLE SPEED, AND THE CONSUMER HAD TO PLACE THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AT WHICH THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY SLOWED DOWN. DEALER SAID THE THROTTLE CABLE SNAPPED. REPAIR COST $201.09. THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE MALFUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE AND WHETHER IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. *AK *CB *JB
VEHICLE HAS A MAJOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE GAUGES WILL GO "BESERK". DOOR CHIME ACTIVATES, ALL LIGHTS FLICKER ON AND OFF, TRANSMISSION CHANGES GEARS,AND THE VEHICLE STALLS.*AK

THE COMPLAINT DEALS WITH THE RIGHT SIDE DOOR LOCK.I TOOK IT INTO MCCOTTER FORD WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM.THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME OVER $300 TO FIX IT AND THIS IS WITH THE EXPENSIVE WARRANTY PACKAGE. WE COULD NOT AFORD THIS,SO MY WIFE AND KIDS ARE DRIVING AROUND IN A CAR THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR THAT CANNOT BE OPENED. THIS CANNOT BE SAFE, WHAT CAN WE DO.THE CAR HAD BETWEEN 50 AND 60 THOUSAND MILES ON IT,THE DEALERSHIP THAT WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM IS IN TITUSVILLE FLORIDA. THIS OCCURED IN 2002
THE KEY SWITCH KEEPS LOCKING UP AND YOU CAN NOT TURN THE KEY. IT HAS TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR SHOP FOR REPAIR. THIS HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES AND THE DEALER COVERED THE FIRST 2, AND I PAID FOR THE NEXT 3.
I HAVE BEEN HEARING FUNNY CLUNKING NOISES FROM THE MOTOR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND MORE RECENTLY THE ENGINE CUTS OUT WHEN DRIVING, ALMOST LIKE IT SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR. PEOPLE HAVE LOOKED AT IT BUT THEY SAYS ITS FINE, ITS DONE IT 4 TIMES ALREADY AND ITS KIND OF GETTING OLD.
LOUD RUMBLING SOUNDS COMMING FROM UNDERNEATH RUBBING NOISE WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE REAR BRAKES, HAD THE DRUMS CUT AND CLEANED AND THE BRAKES STILL ARE RUBBING AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THE BRAKES WILL FAIL SOON IF THEY DON'T FIX THEM I TOOK MY CAR BACK THREE TIMES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM,AND THE INSIST THEY FIXED IT AND THE SAME THING IS STILL WRONG I HOPE SOMEBODY CAN HELP I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO GO TO GET THE PROPER HELP. NHTSA 00-V-411-000 VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. A DECK LID WIRE HARNESS CAN FATIGUE AND DEVELOP BROKEN WIRES IN THE BEND AREA OF THE WIRE HARNESS. CONSUMER HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. HOWEVER THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
WHEN TRYING TO APPLY THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES. THE BRAKES WILL LOCK UP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER ON JUNE 2 AND JUNE 9 BECAUSE SHE HEARD SOME NOISE IN THE FRONT END. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT SPRING BROKE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SPRING UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER FELLS THAT THE SPRING SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN ON A 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. *AK *TS *NLM
CONSUMER STATES WHILE DRIVING AT 15MPH ON FLAT SURFACE AND WITH NO WARNING STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
MY BRAKES HAVE SQUEAKED AND CHIRPED EVER SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE CAR. I HAD PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED FOR THE FIRST TIME AT 28,000 MILES, AND AM FACING HAVING THE SAME WORK DONE AGAIN AT 48,000 MILES. MY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 35,000 MILES, AND THE RECALLS HAVE KEPT ME AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT MORE HOURS THAN I CAN COUNT. *NLM
ENGINE STALLS FOR NO REASON. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. WE HAD TO HURRIEDLY TRY TO CHANGE LANES AND EXIT. IT HAS HAPPENED 11 TIMES SINCE THEN. WE HAVE HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR.*AK

2000 FORD FOCUS FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS. I THINK THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT FORD NEEDS TO RECALL. THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING TO PAY RIDICULOUS AMOUNTS OF MONEY TO FIX THIS IS STUPID. I KNOW THAT FORD IS A BETTER COMPANY THAN THIS AND I BELIEVE THAT THEY NEED TO SHOW THEIR TRUE COLORS AND STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND RECALL THIS PART ON THE FOCUSES. IT'S ALSO A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL. THE CAR WILL JUST DIE WHEN YOU ROUND A CORNER. I DON'T THINK THAT'S EXACTLY SAFE. I CAN'T SEE PAYING ALMOST 500.00 TO HAVE SOMETHING REPLACED THAT'S HAPPENING ON SO MANY CARS. I COULD SEE PAYING THAT MONEY IF IT WAS A SCARCE PROBLEM, BUT IT'S NOT. EVERY FOCUS OWNER THAT I KNOW HAS HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP AT LEAST ONCE. SOME HAVE HAD TO DO IT 2 OR 3 TIMES. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL AND FORD KNOWS IT. *JB

THROTTLE CABLE STUCK WIDE OPEN, HAD TO USE "PARK" TO STOP THE VEHICLE. FOUND RECALL ONLY ON 2000 FORD FOCUS MODELS WITH SPECIFIC VIN NUMBERS. CALLED FORD, SAID DID NOT APPLY, HOWEVER IT HAPPENED TO ME. DEALER DOES NOT HAVE PARTS ON HAND, NO GUARANTEE OF SAFETY IN THE FUTURE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY DOES NOT TRUELY LISTEN TO COMPLAINTS. *AK

CONSUMER CONCERNED ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF RECALLS ON VEHICLE. *MR THE CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE THE CABLE SHIFTER WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. THE ALTERNATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED, THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS, TIRES, SUN ROOF CONTROL. *JB
WHEN TURNING RIGHT IT SEEMS THE FUEL PUMP STOPS WORKING. *AK
MY 2000 FORD FOCUS SE HAS FAULTY REAR DOOR LATCHES. THEY WILL NOT STAY CLOSED. THEY STARTED TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO LATCH IN 2003. FORD WAS NOTIFIED BUT REFUSED TO PAY FOR FIXING THE DOORS. NOW I USE BUNGEE CORDS TO KEEP THE DOORS CLOSED WHILE DRIVING.*AK
OTHER THAN THE RECALLS AND THE BRAKES SQUEAKING CONSTANTLY, EVERYTHING WAS FINE WITH MY 2000 FOCUS UP UNTIL 1 MONTH AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. ALMOST ONE MONTH TO THE DAY, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER STOPPED WORKING. FORD WOULD REPLACE IT AT A COST OF AT LEAST $500, SO I REPLACED IT MYSELF BY ORDERING A PART ON LINE FOR A TOTAL OF $45. A COUPLE OF MONTHS LATER, THE IGNITION CYLINDER WOULD NOT ALLOW THE KEY TO FIT ALL THE WAY IN AND AS A RESULT THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO START, RESULTING IN A COST OF AROUND $300 TO REPLACE. I AM BEGINNING TO SEE THE STALLING PROBLEM FROM THE FAULTY FUEL PUMP. NOW MY AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS AND TRUNK RELEASE JUST STOPPED WORKING AND THE CAR IS MAKING A VERY ODD GRINDING NOISE WHEN YOU TURN. IT WOULD BE ONE THING IF I WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH THESE PROBLEMS, BUT THE FACTS ARE OUT THERE AND MANY, MANY, MANY PEOPLE ARE ALL HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS! I HAVE WRITTEN TO FORD MAIN OFFICES AND MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP SERVERAL TIMES ON THESE MATTERS AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BACK. I HONESTLY AM NEVER BUYING A FORD VEHICLE AGAIN.*AK
MY WIFE HAS A 2000 FOCUS FOR THE PAST 3 MONTHS WHEN SHE IS DRIVING IT WILL DIE. IT CAN BE RESTARTED QUICKLY BUT IT WILL DIE MULTIPLE TIMES. IT WILL TEND TO RUN ROUGH AS WELL WHEN IT HAS THIS PROBLEM AND WILL HAVE NO POWER. THE PROBLEM NOW HAS BECOME AND ALL THE TIME THING. LAST WEEK AFTER HAVING IT AT THE FORD DEALER A COUPLE OF WEEKS BACK, THEY LEFT ALL THE CONNECTIONS LOOSE AND THE CAR HAD GAS RUNNING OUT EVERY WERE. ALSO HAVE HAD A CODE THAT SAID WE HAD A BAD GAS CAP. WE HAVE REPLACED EVERYTHING THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM AND IT DID NO GOOD. FUEL PUMP 2 TIMES, FUEL REGULATOR, FUEL CONTROL MODULE. ALSO CHECKED ALL THE CONNECTIONS AS PER FORD BULLETIN.
PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR (4 WHEELS) REAR BRAKES NOT FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED, WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED (4 WHEELS, REAR ON RECALL, FRONT UNDER WARRANTY). *AK
FOCUS HAS AROUND 60,000 MILES. BUT NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN THE MOTOR WILL SPUTTER AFTER YOU START THE CAR AND JUST DIE OUT. I HAD ONE OF THE EGR SENSOR REPLACE ITS LOCATED ON THE FIREWALL AND ALSO I HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND JUST INSTALLED NEW SPARK PLUGS, WIRES, AIR FILTER AND FUEL FILTER AND I HAD A FRIEND HAVE A QUICK LOOK AT THE FUEL RAIL AND THE VACUUM HOSE THEY LOOK FINE. I HERE THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS THE ISSUE WITH LATE MODEL FOCUS. I JUST NOTICE WHEN PARKING THE CAR BACKWARDS AT AN INCLINE IN THE DRIVEWAY, IT WOULD START BUT REV-UP VERY HIGH FOR ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS AND STILL DIE OUT. MY NEXT STEP IS TO HAVE OBD II TEST DONE AT AAA TO SEE IF THEY CAN HELP OUT, IF NOT MY LAST CHOICE IS FORD BUT I RATHER NOT THE HELL THEM FORD, WELL MY POINT IS I ALSO HAVE ACURA 90 WITH 183,000 MILES AND NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE REPAIRS. *NLM
ON JUNE 1, 2003, MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION CYLINDER WHICH WAS DONE ON JUNE 2, 2003 AT STONEHAM MOTOR CO. I PREVIOUSLY HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND SAME REPAIR ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS -- FEBRUARY 11, 2003 AND APRIL 21, 2003. THIS WAS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED IN A COMPLAINT TO YOUR AGENCY (CONFIRMATION NO. 10018431). THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN SO THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM AGAIN, BUT WAS UNABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS SUCCESSFULLY. ALTHOUGH A NEW IGNITION CYLINDER WAS INSTALLED, I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS PROBLEM MAY CONTINUE TO OCCUR REPEATEDLY BECAUSE OF A DESIGN DEFECT WHICH DOES NOT REQUIRE THE KEY TO BE INSERTED FULLY. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOLD ME THAT ONE CONSUMER WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM LEAVES HIS KEY IN THE IGNITION, THINKING THAT IF THE CAR GETS STOLEN THAT WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM. HE SAID THAT ANOTHER CONSUMER HAS A HAMMER IN HIS CAR WHICH HE USES TO TAP THE KEY BEFORE TURNING IT. I HAVE NO COMPLAINT WITH THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED ALL THREE REPAIRS AT NO CHARGE, BUT I BELIEVE THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAVE SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM, BOTH TO ME AND MY DEALER. *NLM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD FOCUS. WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED IN THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THE KEY THAT IS USED TO START THE IGNITION IS ALSO USED FOR THE DOORS. THE KEY STOPPED WORKING FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND THE TRUNK. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE POWER LOCKS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT SUGGEST A REMEDY FOR THE DOORS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,000. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A LOUD BOOM, FOLLOWED BY THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYING & THE WIND SHIELD SHATTERING. I STOPPED THE CAR, PLACED IT IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE & YELLED AT MY CHILDREN TO JUMP OUT OF THE CAR. A GENTLEMAN, DRIVING BEHIND ME STOPPED, LOOKED AT THE CAR & CALLED 911. HE THEN PROCEEDED TO START THE CAR BACK UP & DRIVE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER THE POLICE CAME, CHECKED THE ROAD & FILLED OUT THE REPORT, I THEN TURNED THE CAR AROUND & DROVE IT BACK TO MY GIRLFRIEND'S HOUSE & PARKED IT. THE NEXT DAY, I DROVE IT TO MY AUNT'S HOUSE & PARKED IT IN HER DRIVEWAY UNTIL MONDAY WHEN IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ( WHERE IT IS STILL LOCATED ) THERE WAS NO CAR IN FRONT OF ME WHEN THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED, & THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE BODY OF THE CAR. *NLM
DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE WHILE BACKING CAR OUT OF DRIVEWAY 10 MPH. *TT
I HAVE GAS LEAKING UNDER THE CAR AND IS SPRAYING ON THE ENGINGE. WAS TOLD NOT TO DRIVE CAR. LOST A HALF TANK OF GAS WITHIN 2 MILES.
I DRIVE A 2000 FORD FOCUS WITH 32,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (I-44) AT 70 MPH SPEED WHEN THE SPRING ON THE STRUT OF THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE BROKE. THE CAR SWIRLED, STARTED SMOKING, MADE SCREETCHING NOISE, AND WITH LOTS OF STRUGGLE AND DANGEROUS SWIRLS I PULLED UP ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE 3-LANE INTERSTATE. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO REMAIN IN THIS NARROW LANE BECAUSE THE DANGER WAS TOO HIGH, SO A POLICE OFFICER ESCORTED MY CAR ACROSS THREE LANES TO PULL IN INTO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP, I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT. FORD INFORMED THAT MY WARRANTY WAS UP A MONTH BEFORE THE INCIDENT AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. THEY SHOWED NO CONCERN REGARDING THIS DANGEROUS INCIDENT HAPPENING ON A 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. BESIDES THE TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE AND THE REPAIRS, THIS CAN LEAD TO MORE INCIDENTS OF THIS KIND, BUT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SHOWED NO INTEREST IN THIS CASE. UNBELIEVABLE. LAWSUIT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD PRODUCT AGAIN. *NLM

ON THE FORD FOCUS THE DOOR LOCK EITHER DON'T LOCK OR YOU CAN'T GET THEM TO UNLOCK. THE LOCK ON MY CAR WILL NOT LOCK AT ALL ON THE BACK PASSANGER SIDE.
KEY WILL GO INTO THE IGNITION BUT IGNITION WILL NOT TURN, SECOND TIME. *JB
I HAVE A 2000 FORD FOCUS W/ 2.0 ZETEC ENGINE THAT STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS IN MAY OF 2002 WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME ON THE EXPRESSWAY. SYMPTOMS INCLUDED THE CAR LURCHING IN HIGHER RPMS (NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN SPEED) AND EVENTUALLY THE CAR WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN 55 MPH AND STALLED ON THE EXPRESSWAY. IT STARTED UP HALF AN HOUR LATER, AND I WAS ABLE TO LIMP HOME AT 50 MPH ON THE E-WAY. THAT PROBLEM DISAPPEARED AFTER A WEEK, AND SHOWED NO SIGNS OF COMING BACK UNTIL THE NEXT TIME I MADE A LONG CAR TRIP, WHEN IT DID THE SAME THING, BUT THANKFULLY DID NOT STALL. THE CAR CONTINUED TO DO THIS, AND FORD DEALERS NEVER DID FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR, ALTHOUGH ONE DEALER CHARGED ME $400 TO DRAIN AND CLEAN THE TANK BECAUSE OF DEBRIS IN THE TANK CAUSING THE CAR TO STALL ON RIGHT TURNS. IF NOT FOR THE FOCALJET.COM WEBSITE, I WOULD BE STUCK WITH AN OUT-OF-WARRANTY DEFECTIVE CAR THAT FORD FLATLY REFUSED TO COVER DURING THE WARRANTY, BUT WAS HAPPY TO SPLIT THE COST 50-50 ONE DAY AFTER THE WARRANTY ENDED. AFTER MAKING ANOTHER LONG TRIP AND HAVING THE CAR SPUTTERING AT 4000 RPMS, I DROPPED THE FUEL TANK, REMOVED 2 CLOGGED FILTERS FROM INSIDE THE GAS TANK FUEL-SENDING UNIT, AND THE CAR HAS WORKED PERFECTLY SINCE THEN. I NOW HAVE MORE POWER, SMOOTHER POWER DELIVERY, NO STALLING OR STUMBLING ON THE E-WAY OR ON RIGHT-HAND TURNS, AND THE CAR NO LONGER HESITATES WITH THE A/C ON. THESE CLOGGED FILTERS HAVE COST ME COUNTLESS HOURS, TRIPS TO THE DEALER, AND $400 WHEN THE FIX IS JUST TO LET THE EXTERNAL (AND USER-SERVICEABLE) FUEL FILTER DO ITS JOB. I HAVE KEPT THE 2 FILTERS THAT I REMOVED AND TAKEN PICTURES OF THE FUEL CANISTER THAT CONTAINED THE CLOGGED FILTERS, IN CASE THERE IS ANY NEED TO INVESTIGATE THEM. *NLM
