WHILE DRIVING AND WITH NO WARNING VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
KEY WOULD NOT GO INTO IGNITION. WHEN I FINALLY GOT IT IN, IT WOULD NOT TURN. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER TRIED TO TELL ME IT WAS BECAUSE THE LOCKS HAD NOT BEEN LUBRICATED ON A REGULAR BASIS (CAR WITH 30K MILES).*AK
IGNITION KEY FAILS TO TURN IN LOCK CYLINDER. STEERING WHEEL CANNOT BE MOVED OR UNLOCKED WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED. VEHICLE HAS BEEN STRANDED AND TOWED TO FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR 3 TIMES ( AT 22000, 37254 & 43000 MILES) NOW. INOPERATIVE LOCK CYLINDER WAS DRILLED OUT AND REPLACED IN EACH CASE. I WAS CHARGED $287.00 FOR THE SECOND REPAIR (PLUS TOWING) BECAUSE IT "WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY".*AK

WATER IS LEAKING INTO THE VEHICLE ON PASSENGER'S SIDE. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE CAUSE OF PROBLEM. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
THE IGNITION IN MY 2000 FORD FOCUS HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES IN THE LAST FOUR YEARS. NOTHING UNUSUAL WAS HAPPENING, ONE DAY I GOT IN MY CAR, DROVE THE COFFEE SHOP CAME OUT AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN. THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME, SIX MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING AND ABOUT SIX MONTHS AFTER THAT. THE FOURTH TIME THIS HAPPENED I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY KEY THIS TIME NOT THE IGNITION. *NM
AT 35MPH, VEHICLE SHUTS OFF. COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK. CONSUMER STATES THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 7 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, CONSUMER COMPLAINED OF WIND NOISE INSIDE THE VEHICLE, THE SEAT BELTS WERE INOPERABLE.*JB
THIS CAR HAS HAD 4 RECALLS SO FAR. IN ADDITION TO THE RECALLS I HAVE HAD IT IN FOR OTHER PROBLEMS LIKE THE GAS LIGHT FAILED TO TO WORK, THE IGNTION PART AFTER TURNING CAR OFF WOULD ACT LIKE THE KEY WAS STILL IN. THE BIGGEST COMPLAINT I HAVE IS THE BRAKES AT 9000 MILES I HAD IT IN TO CHECK THE BRAKES AND THEN 8000 MILES LATER MY ROTERS WENT BAD. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR AT ALL.*AK
VEHICLE HAS STALLED 3 TIMES AT 30-40 MPH. AFTER VEHICLE STALLS, IT TAKES UP TO 25 MINUTES TO RESTART. DEALER CANNOT FIND A CAUSE. *AK
ROTORS AND PADS WEAR EXCESSIVELY. VEHICLE HAS NO PROBLEM STOPPING, BUT SQUEALS WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR FRONT BRAKE PROBLEM. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AKI
VEHICLE WILL SHUTDOWN WITHOUT NOTICE, IT LOSES ALL POWER. TOOK TO DEALER, THEY REPLACED FUEL FILTER, AND THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHUTDOWN THE SAME AS BEFORE, THE DEALER REPLACED THE FULL PUMP. *YH
REAR FOLDING SEAT COULD NOT BE PLACED BACK UP BECAUSE LAP BELT LOCKED UP AND WOULD NOT UNFASTEN. DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT THE CENTER REAR SEAT BELT WAS STUCK. *YH
KEY WOULD NOT GO ALL THEY WAY IN IGNITION CYLINDER. CYLINDER REPLACED.*AK
CAR STARTED STALLING BEFORE IT RAN OUT OF WARRANTY. DEALER REPLACED FUEL PUMP THAT WAS ALL THEY COULD FIGURE OUT. THAT LASTED AS LONG AS THE WARRANTY DID. I PERSONALY REPLACED THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTERS EACH TIME. THE CAR HAS CONTINUED TO STALL SENSE UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER CAN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM ,THEY SAID THAT THEY HAVE NOTHING BUT PROBLEM WITH THE FORD FOCUS. I'VE CONTACTED FORD CORP. AND YOU GET NO HELP FROM THEM. THE CAR HAS STALLED ON SEVERAL OCCASION AS LONG AS THE CAR SIT FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME IT WILL START AND RUN FOR AWHILE THEN IT WILL DO IT AGAIN. I CANNOT AFFORD TO TAKE IT THE DEALER EACH TIME TO TELL ME NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. THIS PROBLEM COULD END IN AN ACCIDENT AND POSSIBLE INJURY. I HOPE THIS DOESN'T TAKE A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST FORD TO GET THIS PROBLEM CORRECTED.*AK

ENGINE IS STALLING OUT WHILE THE CONSUMER IS DRIVING VEHICLE. THIS WILL HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED, BUT IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. CONTACTED DEALER. *AK
PE 02 044/FRONT SUSPENSION FRONT COIL SPRING; WHILE DRIVING OVER THE RAILROAD TRACKS AT 5 MPH LEFT FRONT COIL SPRING BROKE. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, VEHICLE WILL COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN. AFTER INSPECTION BY DEALER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. *AK NOT ONLY THE FUEL PUMP, BUT FUSE TO FUEL PUMP AND GASKET FOR FUEL PUMP WERE REPLACED. *YH
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLSION OF 1-5 MPH AND BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, CAUSING FRONT WINDSHIELD DAMAGES ON PASSENGER'S SIDE. DRIVER SUSTAINED 2ND DEGREE BURNS ON RIGHT FOREARM AND SOME ON HIS RIGHT HAND. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. .*AK.*NLM
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH VEHICLE WAS WOBBLING IN REAR. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER, AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE REAR WHEEL BEARING/ SPIDER AND DRUM. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFROMATION.*AK
ON TWO OCASIONS THE CAR STALLED WHILE STOPPED AT INTERSECTION. CAR THEN RESTARTED AND CONTINUED ON. BOTH CAME WITHIN A WEEK OF EACH OTHER. REPORTING BECAUSE OF ARTICLE I SAW IN USA TODAY DATED 6-7-2002.*AK
6/3/02 : MY FORD FOCUS WAS ACCELERATING ON AN ENTRANCE RAMP TO INTERSTATE 70 IN ABILENE, KANSAS, AND UPON REACHING ABOUT 40 MPH IT SUDDENLY STALLED. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS PLENTY OF SHOULDER TO PULL OFF ONTO. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES, THE CAR WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON TO MANHATTAN, KANSAS, WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEM. LATER THAT EVENING WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MOVE THE FOCUS FROM MY DRIVEWAY INTO MY GARAGE, IT STARTED UP OK, BUT THEN STALLED AFTER ABOUT 5 SECONDS. IT STALLED ABOUT 5 SECONDS AFTER EACH TIME IT STARTED. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER, DICK EDWARDS FORD, IN MANHATTAN, KANSAS, FOR 6/5/02. I DID NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE ON 6/4/02. ON 6/5/02, I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND BEGAN DRIVING TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CHECKED/FIXED. ABOUT 2 MILES FROM MY HOUSE, THE FOCUS SUDDENLY STALLED AGAIN. I HAD THE CAR TOWED THE REMAINING 3 MILES TO THE DEALER. 6/6/02 : THE FOCUS IS CURRENTLY SITTING IN THE SERVICE BAY AT DICK EDWARDS FORD IN MANHATTAN, KANSAS. TOMORROW (6/7/02) THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER ARE SUPPOSED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $500.00 (ESTIMATE). TONIGHT (6/6/02) I SAW A REPORT ON THE CBS EVENING NEWS ABOUT FORD FOCUSES BEING INVESTIGATED FOR STALLING PROBLEMS. PERHAPS IT IS MERE COINCIDENCE, PERHAPS NOT. THE REPORT ALLEGED THAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE A RESULT OF DEBRIS ACCUMULATING IN THE FUEL TANK. ALSO NOTEWORTHY IS THE FACT THAT MY FOCUS HAD ITS 100,000 MILE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON 4/19/02, INCLUDING A NEW FUEL FILTER AND TUNE-UP. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY THAT DICK EDWARDS FORD HAS DONE ALL THE MAINTENANCE ON THIS VEHICLE AT 5000 MILE INTERVALS. I AM FILING THIS REPORT BECAUSE I HAPPENED TO SEE THE EVENING NEWS TONIGHT. HOW MANY PEOPLE DID NOT SEE THE REPORT AND HAVE HAD, OR ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AS I AM NOW? THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU.*AK
TRUCK LID WILL NOT STAY CLOSED. AFTER DEALER REPAIR, WOULD NOT OPEN. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED. AUTO DOOR LOCKS DO NOT LOCK. CURRENTLY ELECTRICAL LOCKS WILL NOT WORK. PAT MILLIKEN FORD STATES REAR PASSENGER DOOR IS SHORTING SYSTEM OUT.
SOMETIMES KEY WILL NOT FIT IN IGNITION. TOOK TO DEALER, AND THEY STATED THAT IGNITION IS OFF TRACK. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
TONIGHT MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING FROM OUR HOME TO PICK UP OUR SON IN SOUTH JERSEY. HE WAS IN 3RD GEAR AND GOING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH CAR JUST DIED. A TOW TRUCK CAME. CAR UNABLE TO START. THANKFULLY NOONE WAS WITH HIM AND IT WAS AT NIGHT BECAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. I SEE THAT 72 INCIDENTS OF SIMILAR FOCUS CARS DYING HAVE PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPORTED TO THE NHTSA. I WOULD LIKE MY CAR ADDED AS THE 73RD INCIDENT. ODDLY IT WAS AT 30,000 MILES LIKE IT HAS BEEN REPORTED HAPPENING TO THE OTHER FOCUS CARS.*AK
MY CAR STALLS FOR NO REASON!!!!!!! HOW IRRITATING IT IS TO HAVE A CAR ( NOT EVEN 5 YEARS OLD) STALL DURING TRAFFIC AND WHEN DRIVING FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME (30 MIN OR MORE)? VERY!!!!!! :( MY 2000 FORD FOCUS STALLS NO MATTER IF I'M GOING 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 OR EVEN 60 MILES AN HOUR. IT'S SCARY ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60MPH AND FOR NO REASON YOUR CAR LOSES POWER. CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW SCARY IT IS TO SEE THE VEHICLE BEHIND YOU STILL TRAVELING AT 60 WHILE YOU START TO SLOW DOWN? THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!!!! I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM SINCE JUNE OF 2002. THE DEALERSHIP ACTS LIKE I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. AND I END UP PAYING TO HAVE ALL KINDS OF DIAGNOSTICS TEST DONE AND NO SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. EVERYONE DIAGNOSES IT DIFFERENTIAL. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND BROUGHT MY CAR INTO THEM AT LEAST 3 TIMES BECAUSE WHEN IM DRIVING SOMETIMES I HAVE TO PUT MY FOOT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE SPEEDOMETER WILL NOT BE MOVING AND THE CAR JUST DON'T HAVE NO POWER AT ALL. THE DEALER KEEPS TELLING ME THEY CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR.

SIX WEEKS PREVIOUSLY, ENGINE STALLED ON FREEWAY. DEALER SAID COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM AND LET THEM KNOW IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. 5/31/02 COULD NOT GET CAR TO GO; HAD TOWED TO DEALER. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS THEY FINALLY THOUGHT IT WAS THE AIR INTAKE VALVE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. TODAY I HEAR ABOUT THE FOCUS STALLING PROBLEM POSSIBLY BEING CAUSED BY DEBRIS IN GAS TANK. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR FOR FEAR IT WILL STALL AGAIN ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS LUCKY THE LAST TIME THAT I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER AND DID NOT GET INTO A CRASH. I WAS ABLE TO RE-START THE CAR AND GET IT OFF THE FREEWAY. OTHER CONTINUING PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE HAD THE DEALER FIX OVER 3 TIMES EACH: SQUEAKING BRAKES AND MOLDING AROUND THE DOORS FALLING OFF.
WHILE DRIVING OVER 60MPH VEHICLE WILL VIBRATE. CONTACTED DEALER. HAD WHEEL ALIGNED, BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. *AK
FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS HAD TO BE REPLACED WITHIN 22,000 MILES OF WEAR. DEALER NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
THE ENGINE STALLS WHILE DRIVING AS IF IT IS GOING TO SHUT DOWN. THE SIGNAL LIGHTS WILL NOT STOP BLINKING WHEN MAKING LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS. THIS WAS REPAIRED BY EAST FORD IN FEB 2001 AND THIS PROBLEM IS BACK AGAIN. I FEEL THAT THESE ARE MORE DEFECTS IN THE FOCUS. *AK

REAR WHEEL BEARING WAS MAKING NOISE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY STATED THAT REAR BEARING NEEDED REPLACEMENT. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT WHEEL BEARING WENT OUT AND WAS REPLACED. *YH
WHEN BRAKING ENGINE REVS HIGH AND VEHICLE ACCELERATES FORWARD SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY. A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ON THE VEHICLE'S MAKE/MODEL; HOWEVER THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO VIN. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.*AK
VEHICLE ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN, ENGINE REVS. THROTTLE RECALL WAS DONE FIRST IN OCTOBER OF 2001, THEN A SECOND TIME.*AK
WEAK SPRING FRONT. DEALER REPLACED SPRINGS, SHOCK MOUNTS, SHIELDS, AND BEARINGS ON 10/13/2001. ON 02/07/2002 DEALER REPLACED BEARING ASSEMBLY, MOUNTING ASSEMBLY AND DAMPER ASSEMBLY FOR SHOCK ABSORBER 'BINDING'. ON 05/23/2002 DEALER REPLACED MOUNTING ASSEMBLY AND BEARING ASSEMBLY FOR SHOCK ABSORBER. ALSO INSTALLED CORRECTION KIT FOR 'LOOSE' STABILIZER END. WITH ALL THE ABOVE REPAIRS, I HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED FOR THE FOURTH TIME BECAUSE IT'S HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS THE PREVIOUS THREE TIMES.*AK
NO ACTUAL CRASH. TOOK CAR IN TO SERVICE A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE WIPER GEAR COVER, MECHANIC DISCOVERS THAT THE BRAKE PADS ARE WORN DOWN TO 1 MILLIMETER AND THE CAR IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. HE ALSO SAYS THEY HAVE WORN DOWN BC THE CAR IS NOT BEING DRIVEN PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY A YEAR AND A HALF OLD AND ONLY HAS 14500 MILES ON IT, ITS NOT POSSIBLE THAT ITS NOT DRIVEN PROPERLY SINCE IT DOESN'T GET DRIVEN ENOUGH. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS ON A SITE CALLED WWW.FORDFOCUSBRAKEPROBLEMS.COM AND THERE ARE A NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AT ABOUT THE SAME MILEAGE. FORD MUST BE INSTALLING SHODDY BRAKE SYSTES FOR THIS TO BE HAPPENING.*AK
AFTER GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WHILE CONSUMER WAS PULLING OFF THE ROAD, CAUSING SOME MINOR DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. CONTACTED DEALER ,AND THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
PE 02 040/ENGINE STALLING, AFTER DRIVING VEHICLE FOR A WHILE, IT STARTED TO HESITATE, AND LACKED IN ACCELERATION WHEN APPLIED. VEHICLE BEEN TO THE DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS, AND WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFROMATION.*AK

I HAD TO TAKE MY 2000 FORD FOCUS TO A MECHANIC BECAUSE OF A SUDDEN LOUD SCRAPING NOISE AND AN INABILITY TO PROPERLY STEER. I WAS TOLD THAT 3 OF THE 4 BOLTS THAT HOLD THE AXLE SUPPORT BRACE WERE MISSING AND THE AXLE WAS IN DANGER OF COLLAPSE. MECHANIC ADDED 3 BOLTS - PROBLEM WAS FIXED.
WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY ENEGINE CUT OFF AND MY CAR PULLED TO THE RIGHT , WHICH CAUSED CAR TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL AND SMACK INTO WALL OF MEDIUM.*AK
THE BEARINGS ARE BEING REPLACED IN AREAS WHERE SALT IS USED ON ROADS. WHAT ABOUT SALT CONDITIONS ON THE COAST LINE WHERE SALT IS A PROBLEM YEAR ROUND. FORD REFUSED TO REPLACE THE WHEEL BEARINGS , MEANING MORE THAN ONE, UNDER THE RECALL FOR CERTAIN STATES. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AS THE SALT BY THE OCEAN IS A WORST PROBLEM THAN STREET SALT. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED ON THIS MATTER. NLM
