WHILE DRIVING ON A MAIN INTERSTATE IN THE RAIN, (THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS AROUND 24000 MILES), THE REAR OF THE CAR BEGAN TO HYDROPLAN. UPON DISCUSSING WITH SERVICE ADVISOR, HE STATED THE TIRES WERE NOT NEW ANYMORE AND DID NOT HAVE GROVES TO CHANNEL THE WATER OUT LIKE SOME OF THE NEW TIRES ON THE MARKET. HE RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE TIRES WITH NEW ONES THAT HAVE WATER CHANNELS. HE STATED THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR BEING AS LIGHT AS IT IS IN THE REAR END.*AK
MY BRAKES HAS CONSISTANTLY HAD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. AFTER SEVERAL COMPLAINTS TO THE DEALERSHIPS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS, I WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL. THE PROBLEM NOW IS THAT 22,000 MILES AND 1 YEAR LATER, I NEED NEW BRAKES. ALSO, THE CAR WAS RECALLED FOR WHEEL BOLTS AND NUTS. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE EXACT PROBLEM. THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES BECAUSE OF THE LOUD NOISE. MY BELIEF IS THAT THE CAR IS DEFECTIVE OR POORLY DESIGNED.*AK

REAR WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED DUE TO VIBRATION AND NOISE IN REAR OF VEHICLE, DEALER STATED BEARINGS WERE WORN OUT PREMATURELY. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 55MPH VEHICLE WOULD DOWNSHIFT AND LOSE POWER. TOOK TO DEALER AND DEALER INDICATED THAT MOTOR WILL DOWNSHIFT WHEN USING BACK DEFROSTER. PLEASE ADD VIN. *AK
PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELT WILL NOT RETRACT BACK INTO THE RETRACTOR. CONTACTED DEALER PLEASE ADD VIN. *AK

I AM TIRED OF REPLACING WHEEL BEARINGS. NOW FORD IS SAYING THAT MY SPINDLE IS MESSED UP AND THAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. MY SPINDLE IS ONLY MESSED UP BECAUSE OF THE WHEEL BEARINGS. IT IS A VICIOUS CIRCLE. I AM TIRED OF CONSTANTLY REPAIRING THIS CAR. IF FORD WOULD FIX IT RIGHT I WOULD NOT HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. ALL I REALLY WANT IS TO GET RID OF THIS THING THAT VAGUELY PASSES FOR A CAR AND TO GET SOMETHING RELIABLE, BUT FORD ONLY WANTS TO OFFER ME HALF OF WHAT I OWE ON THIS LEMON. I GUESS THEY DON'T WANT IT BACK. DT
DOOR LOCKS ARE INOPERABLE, SPECIALLY THE DRIVER SIDE WHICH CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE OR THE INSIDE. THE KEYLESS ENTRY DOES NOT WORK NOR DOES THE KEY OR THE LOCK LATCH. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE CAR DOOR AT THIS TIME. THE ONLY WAY TO GET INTO DRIVERS SIDE IS BY CLIMBING THROUGH THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING OR IN THE CASE THAT VEHICLE SHOULD GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. LIVING IN LOUISIANA THIS POSES A SERIOUS THREAT IF THE VEHICLE SHOULD FALL INTO A DRAINAGE CANAL EXIT FROM THE CAR WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE.*AK

TRIED TO PUT KEY INTO THE IGNITION, KEY WOULDN'T GO IT. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER AND IT TOOK A WEEK TO GET FIXED. HAD TO ARGUE TO GET A LOANER CAR IN THE MEANTIME AND NO ONE AT FORD WAS HELPFUL AT ALL AND INSISTED THAT THIS WAS NOT A BIG PROBLEM. SHORTLY BEFORE THIS HAPPENED, THE STEERING AND RACK AND PINION HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A FLUID LEAK. LAST WEEK, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR (IT HAD NOT BEEN STARTED ALL WEEKEND), THE ENGINE WOULDN'T TURN OVER AND THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP. TODAY WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY LOOSE AND PULLED AWAY FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. TOOK THE CAR IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER AND THEY PUT IT BACK ON. HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR. LOTS OF RECALL WORK AND ALL THESE OTHER ISSUES TOO. CAR IS AT DEALER FOR SERVICE ON AVERAGE EVERY FOUR MONTHS. THIS WAS MY FIRST NEW CAR, BUT NOW I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD AND AM GETTING RID OF THIS ONE ASAP. *AK
I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE JUST LAST MONTH THE CABLE AND MOTOR IN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WINDOW BURNED UP AND NOW WILL COST OVER $600. TO FIX I CAN NOT GET THE FRONT RACK & PINION FIXED BECAUSE IT WILL COST $1800.00. THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT NOW IT SLIPS OUT OF GEAR SOMETIMES NOT AT ALL. I JUST GOT THE BRAKES REPAIRED FOR THE THIRD TIME IN MAY AND THEY ARE AGAIN SQUEAKING. I HAVE ALL OF MY RECEIPTS FOR WORK DONE TO THIS CAR. I AM NOW HAVING TO PUT POWER STEERING FLUID IN ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK. THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS ON THE DOORS LOCK AND UNLOCK ALL THE TIME, AND THE ELECTRIC INSTRUMENTS TURN OFF BY THEMSELVES. PE 02 020: AIR BAG BURN INJURIES/VEHICLE FIRE: VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH, IN WHICH BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. DRIVER'S AIR BAG CAUSED A FIRE ON DRIVER'S SHIRT AND SECOND DEGREE BURNS ON LEFT ARM. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK *YD

CONSUMER REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 35 MPH, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. NO INJURIES, DAMAGE TO VEHICLE WAS $4100. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY BECAUSE THE BUMPER WAS NOT COMPRESSED AS IT WENT UNDER THE REAR BUMPER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE. *JG *AK
WHEN WASHING VEHICLE IN COLD WEATHER DRIVER'S DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE OR STAY SHUT. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *AK *YH
MY CAR HAS SHUT DOWN TWICE WHILE DRIVING CAUSING COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL. THE FIRST TIME I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MOUNTAIN GOING ABOUT 60 MPH AND THE CAR SHUT OFF AND I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE STEERING OR ANYTHING. THE CAR RESTARTED ON ITS OWN AFTER A COUPLE OF SECONDS. THE MOST RECENT TIME, I WAS COMING OFF THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR SHUT OFF CAUSING ME TOO DRIVE INTO A CURB GOING ABOUT 50MPH, THIS TIME I HAD TO RESTART THE CAR MYSELF. BOTH TIMES I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE SERVICE DEPT. AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK

RECALL 00 V 303 000/REAR WHEEL BEARINGS. DEALER METRO FORD, SCHENECTADY, NY; PHONE# 382-1010 UNABLE TO HONOR RECALL BECAUSE NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. SEEKING NHTSA HELP IN THIS MATTER. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS MATTER.*AK
WHEN CAR IS ENGAGED IN GEAR THE DOOR LOCKS SHOULD LOCK. THE DON'T. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO FORD AND THEY REPLACED THE FUSE THE FIRST TIME, AS THEY WERE TESTING IT THEY BLEW 2 MORE FUSES. THEY THEN REPLACED THE 2ND AND TOLD ME IT WOULD BE OK. WHEN I GOT HOME TONIGHT THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK THE OTHER 3 DOORS DID. NOW NONE OF THE DOOR WILL LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH THE REMOTE OR WITH THE BUTTON INSIDE THE CAR.
WHILE DRIVING COULD HEAR NOISE ON THE MOVEMENT OF VEHICLE HAD SEEN RECALLS ON AXLE OF VEHICLE. DECIDED TO TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY FOUND OUT THAT PROBLEM WAS REFFERRED TO REAR AXLE OF VEHICLE. BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN RECALL BECAUSETHEY COULD NOT FIXED PROBLEM WITHOUT CHARGING CONSUMER. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *AK

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND 1 MILE FROM WHERE I WAS SUPPOSED TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY MY CAR STARTED TO SWERVE FROM BEHIND. I TURNED MY SIDE MIRROR TO SEE IF I COULD SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON AND WHAT I SAW FRIEGHTENED ME. MY TIRE WAS WOBBLING INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL AND BEGAN TO MAKE A METAL ON METAL GRINDING SOUND. THE CAR HAS HAD 2 RECALLS DEALING WITH THE BACK TIRE, AND EVERYONE AT THE DEALERSHIP SEEMS TO THINK THAT THIS IS JUST A COINCIDENCE. MY CAR WAS SWERVING FROM BEHIND AND THE ENTIRE WHEEL WELL WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE 'TILL I SLOWED DOWN. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECTIVE PART OF THE CAR, ESPECIALLY AFTER SEEING THE OTHER COMPLAINTS FILED ON THE SITE. *AK

POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKED INTO RACK AND PINION, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO STEER. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND AND REPLACED RACK AND PINION STEERING. *AK
STARTER JUST STOPPED WORKING, BURNED THE FUSE ASSEMBLY. *AK
I SENT THIS LETTER TO FORD IN MAY OF 2000 I PURCHASED A FORD FOCUS, THINKING IT WOULD BE A SAFE, LOW MAINTENANCE CAR, CONSIDERING IT HAD BEEN IN EUROPE SINCE 1997. I WOULD THINK THIS WOULD BE PLENTY OF TIME TO WORK OUT ANY BUGS YOU MAY HAVE. OR, SHOULD I CALL THEM RECALLS. I THINK A CAR THAT HAS 16 RECALLS, MOST OF THEM WHICH I WOULD CONSIDER SAFETY ISSUES, SHOULD BE RECALLED ENTIRELY. I HAVE HAD OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS CAR AS WELL. MY KEY WOULD NOT TURN, SEAT BELTS LOCKING FOR NO REASON, DOOR HANDLES NOT OPENING THE DOOR (THIS IS ALL HAPPENING AGAIN). AND ONE THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED, BRAKES. I AM NOW ON MY THIRD SET OF FRONT ROTORS SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR. THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED EVERY TIME. THE DRIVER SIDE ROTOR AND PAD WILL WEAR COMPLETELY DOWN YET THE PASSENGER SIDE WILL BE JUST FINE. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER FOCUS OWNERS AND THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING. I STILL HAVE MY LAST SET OF ROTORS JUST TO PROVE IT. I GOT SMART THIS TIME AND BOUGHT REPLACEMENTS THAT WERE NOT MADE BY YOU. STOP TECH CROSS DRILLED ROTORS AND EBC GREENSTUFF KEVLAR PADS. I ALSO REPLACED THE DRIVER SIDE CALIPER WITH A NON-FORD REPLACEMENT. I WANT OUT OF THIS CAR BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE. I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO WARN OTHER FOCUS OWNERS THAT THIS CAR IS UNSAFE. YOU ALSO HAD BETTER NOT SEND ME TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. WHAT DOES THE DEALERSHIP HAVE TO DO WITH THE PRODUCTION OF AN UNSAFE CAR? NOTHING, EXCEPT THAT THEY SELL IT. I AM NOT PUTTING UP WITH FORD PUSHING ME AROUND OR GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND EITHER. THIS CAR IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD. MY 2000 FORD FOCUS KONA EDITION HAS BEEN SUBJECT OF AT LEAST FIVE RECALLS AND OTHER NUMEROUS PROBLEMS THAT HAVE REQUIRED ME TO TAKE THE CAR IN TO BE REPAIRED. I WAS ALSO SOLD THIS CAR WAY ABOVE STICKER PRICE AND CURRENTLY THIS FORD FOCUS IS WORTH 5000 DOLLARS YET I STILL OWE 11,000. I AM NOW HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AND THE REAR AXLE, THAT I WILL ONCE AGAIN HAVE TO TAKE MY CAR IN TO GET REPAIRED. ALL OF THE INCIDENTS HAVE TAKEN PLACE BETWEEN THE YEARS OF NOVEMBER 2001 (WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR) AND THE PRESENT DATE OF NOVEMBER 2003... BUT THE PROBLEMS ARE STILL ONGOING. *LA

DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM. *AK FORD MOTOR COMPANY STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO VERIFY ANY MANUFACTUER'S DEFECTS. *TT
3 OCCURRENCES: VEHICLE RECEIVES NO FUEL AND STALLS TO ALMOST A STOP WHEN ENTERING INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS FROM ENTRANCE RAMPS. OCCURS WHEN FUEL IS BETWEEN EMPTY AND 1/4 FULL. TANK HAS AT LEAST 3-4 GALLONS IN IT. MUST PULL OFF TO SHOULDER AND LET CAR SIT UNTIL IT WILL REACCELERATE. VERY DANGEROUS IN THAT IF CAR ENTERS LANE OF TRAFFIC CANNOT ACCELARATE VEHILCE AT ALL.*AK

I WAS SOUTH BOND ON WARREN AND OBSERVED, AND SMELLED SMOKE. I WENT TO PULL OVER AND FOUND OUT I HAD LOST BRAKES. I APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND CAME TO A STOP,
WE HAVE A 2000 FORD FOCUS AND IT HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR STALLS AT TIMES AND THE LIGHTS OF THE CAR GO OFF AND ON AS WELL AS THE RADIO AND THE SPEEDOMETER GO CRAZY FROM ON SIDE TO THE OTHER. I CAN BE DRIVING AND HAVE THE RADIO OFF AND IT WILL TURN ON. THE CAR STALLED FOR THE FIRST TIME ON OCT. 22 2001 AND IT DIDN'T RESTART SO WE TOOK IT TO FORD AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. THE CAR DROVE GOOD FOR A WHILE AND THEN IT STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN. SO WE TOOK IT TO FORD ON SEPT. 30 2002 AND THEY TOLD US THAT IT WAS ALTENATOR. SO WE HAD IT REPLACED. THE CAR DID GOOD FOR A WHILE AND THEN ON JULY 16 2003 THE ENGINE WOULD STALL. FORD SAID THAT THIS TIME IT WAS VACUUM LEAK AND THEY REPLACED THE TUBE ASSEMBLY. THE CAR STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND WE TOOK IT IN ON JULY 18 2003 THE ENGINE WOULD STALL. FORD SAID THAT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP ONCE AGAIN. SO WE HAD IT REPLACED. THE CAR STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM SO WE TOOK IT BACK TO FORD AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE ALTENATOR. WE COULDN'T AFFORD TO HAVE IT FIXED BY FORD SO WE HAD THE ALTENATOR FIXED WITH SOMEONE ELSE. ON SEPT. 17 2003 WE COULD NOT START THE CAR AND WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. FORD SAID THAT IT WAS THE IGNITION CYLINDER AND WE HAD IT REPLACED. AFTER ALL OF THIS THE CAR DID OK FOR A LITTLE WHILE BUT ON JAN. 28 2004 THE ENGINE BEGAIN TO STALL ONCE AGAIN. FORD SAID THAT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP ONCE AGAIN SO WE HAD IT REPLACED. ON FEB. 4 2004 THE GAS WOULD LEAK WHEN YOU FILLED THE TANK. FORD SAID IT WAS THE PUMP RETAINING NUT NOT SEATED PROPERLY. THE CAR STILL DID NOT ACT GOOD IT STARTED OUT SLOW WITH THE CAR STALLING EVERY NOW AND THEN AND THEN IT JUST WOULD STALL AND TURN OFF WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING. AND SOMETIMES THE CAR WOULD NOT EVER START AGAIN UNTILL 15 MIN WOULD PASS AND THEN IT WOULD START. ON AUG. 20 2004 WE TOOK IT TO FORD AND THEY SAID THAT THE ALTERNATOR. SO WE HAD IT REPLACED FOR THE 3RD TIME. *AK

WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH CONSUMER REAR ENDED ANOTHER DRIVER, AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, INJURING CONSUMER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURHER INFORMATION.*AK
