WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED UNEXPECTEDLY. WINDSHIELD WAS SHATTERED WHEN THIS OCCURRED, AND PASSENGER LOST ALL HEARING FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 TO 45 SECONDS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS/PHOTOGRAPHS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING HEARD A LOUD NOISE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AXLE HAD BROKEN.*AK
THIS PROBLEM STARTED HAPPENING AROUND 12,000 MILES, AND WHILE THIS FORM ASKS FOR A FAILURE DATE, IT DOES IT SO MUCH IT IS HARD TO SAY, I PUT AN APPROXIMATE DATE OF THE WORST OCCURRENCE BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. I REALIZE THERE IS ALREADY AN INVESTIGATION ABOUT THIS, I JUST WANTED TO ADD ANOTHER TESTIMONY. WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS LESS THAN HALF FULL, AND THE CAR TAKES RIGHT-TURNS, ESPECIALLY LONG, SWEEPING TURNS, SUCH AS HIGHWAY ENTRANCE/EXIT RAMPS, THE CAR WILL JERK AND LURCH VIOLENTLY, REFUSING TO ACCELERATE, AND WILL STALL IF PROVOKED ENOUGH. IF I BACK OFF THE GAS, IT RECOVERS, BUT TWICE IT HAS COMPLETELY STALLED OUT, REFUSING TO TURN BACK ON FOR A FEW HOURS, ONE OF THESE TIMES WAS IN HEAVY HIGHWAY TRAFFIC, I COASTED AT ABOUT 25MPH SINCE IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, THEN IT EVENTUALLY DIED. THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT, MY DEALER FILLED THE TANK WITH GAS (WHICH DOES NOT ALLOW FOR THE PROBLEM TO OCCUR, KIND OF STUPID OF THEM), AND THEN DROVE IT AROUND, BUT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO SHOW THEM HOW TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I MUST NOW KEEP MY GAS TANK MORE THAN HALF FULL, BECAUSE OF THE DANGERS IN GETTING ON AND OFF THE HIGHWAY. IT EVEN DOES IT AROUND TOWN NOW, AT TIMES. THE DEALER SAYS IT IS A RESULT OF A FUEL FILTER GETTING CLOGGED AND THEY WOULD JUST CLEAN IT OUT, BUT OTHER FOCUS OWNERS I ASSOCIATE WITH (WWW.FOCALJET.COM) HAVE REPORTED THAT THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX. OTHERWISE, I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CAR, AND I APPLAUD FORD FOR THE RECALLS, THEY MAY MAKE OUR CAR LOOK BAD BUT IT SHOWS FORD IS ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILTY FOR DEFECTS, AND TRYING TO IMPROVE ON THEM. *AK
THE OUTSIDE AND INSIDE LAMPS FLICKER AT IDLE TOOK CAR TO DEALER DEALER SAYS THE CAR IS DOING IT BUT THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT THEY NEVER SEEN TIS PROBLEM BEFORE, I WENT TO MY FORD FOCUS . COM AND CHECKED FOR PROBLEMS ON THEIR SITE THERE IS ALL KINDS OF OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS A FORD TECH I THINK IT IS IN THE SPEED OF THE ALTERNATER AT IDLE PLEASE HELP. *AK
TIRES WEARING OUT FAST, ACCELERATED SPEED, AND ENGINE KILL, UNEVEN SUSPENSION, INDICATOR GAUGES AND LIGHTS HAYWIRE. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT I HAD WRECKED THE CAR AND HAD TO PAY $883.00 FOR REPAIRS + $350.00 FOR NEW TIRES.*AK
WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM VEHICLE WHILE BRAKING. DEALER EXAMINED VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT LEFT FRONT BRAKE PAD WAS LOOSE. SINCE THAT TIME, CONSUMER HAS EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR EXAMINED BECAUSE LEFT SIDE PAD SUPPORT KNUCKLE: SPINDLE ARM WAS BENT, AND CAUSING BRAKE PAD TO WEAR. DEALERSHIP WAS UNWILLING TO ASSIST IN REPAIRS OF BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS. *AK
DEALER CUT WARPED ROTOR 17K--DID NOT REPLACE PADS--AT 23K ROTOR MUST BE REPLACED AT MY COST--FORD SAYS IT IS NORMAL WEAR. MY VEHICLES' BRAKE ROTORS HAVE ALWAYS LASTED THE LIFE OF THE CAR-140,000+MILES--23,000 IS NOT "NORMAL WEAR. " *AK
BRAKES AND AIR BAGS FAILED
THE INSURED NOTICED THAT THE CHECK LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED, ONCE THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE WAS OPENED THERE WAS A NOISE AND THEN SMOKE BEGAN COMING FROM THE BATTERY AND THE FIRE STARTED WITH THE WIRING NEAR OR ON THE BATTERY.*JB (CLAIM#28-3088-224)
THE FRONT DISK BRAKES WERE WORN OUT TO THE ROTORS AFTER ONLY 25,000 MILES BECAUSE THEY OVER HEAT AND THE PADS WEAROUT QUICKLY. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ON EXPRESSWAY 80% OF THE TIME. THE FRONT WHEELS BECOME EXTREMELY DIRTY DUE TO QUICKLY WEARING OUT BRAKE PADS. WHEN THIS WAS BROUGHT TO THE NOTICE OF THE DEALER ABOUT 8 MONTHS BACK HE SAID THE DIRT IS DUE TO THE WHEEL DESIGN, BUT THE REAR WHEELS DO NOT GET DIRTY SINCE THEY DO NOT OVERHEAT AND WEAR OUT AS QUICKLY. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER SAY IT IS NORMAL TO WEAROUT FRONT BREAKS ANY TIME AFTER 9,000 MILES AND REFUSED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. THIS IS ABNORMAL, MY BRAKES ALWAYS LAST OVER 55,000 MILES.*AK
NOISY BRAKES- MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES. TWICE THE ROTORS AND PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED BUT STILL NOISE BRAKES. DEALER ADVISED THAT THERE IS NO RESOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THE CAR WAS CREATED IN EUROPE. SO WHY DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME ON IT AND WHY DIDN'T YOU DISCLOSE THE NOISY BRAKES TO ME AT TIME OF PURCHASE? IN GENERAL I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH MY CAR AND THE DEALERSHIP IS NOT WILLING TO TAKE IT AS A TRADE IN FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE.*AK
THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS HAPPENED I WAS TRAVELING AT 50MPH. MY CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND BECOME HARD TO CONTROL, THEN IT STALLED LEAVING MY COASTING TRYING TO FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND SEVERAL OTHER PARTS. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS AGAIN TRAVELING AT 50MPH, WHEN AGAIN I LOST POWER TO THE CAR AND WAS LEFT COASTING. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND A VERY UNSAFE PROBLEM WHEN YOU HAVE A CAR WITH POWER STEERING AND YOU LOOSE POWER IT MAKES IT EATREMELY HARD TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS A CAR THAT JUST COASTS. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS SERIOUS DEFECT IN THESE CARS. *AK
VEHICLE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. LOSING ALL POWER AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. DEALER NOTIFIED 4 TIMES. FIRST 3 TIMES THEY DID NOTHING, FOURTH TIME THEY SAID THEY REPLACED AIR INTAKE VALVE. THE MORNING AFTER WE GOT THE CAR OUT OF THE SHOP IT STALLED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING 55MPH. WE ARE TIRED OF GETTING THE RUN AROUND AND ARE HESITANT TO CONTACT DEALER AGAIN CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. 2ND PROBLEM- PUT KEY INTO IGNITION AND KEY WOULDN'T TURN. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER WHERE THEY KEPT IT FOR A WEEK. I WAS TOLD IT HAD TO DO WITH THE IGNITION CYLINDER AND KEY HAD TO BE CODED. THESE ARE ONLY 2 OF THE MANY PROBLEMS WE HAVE HAD WITH OUR VEHICLE, BUT IT IS RIDICULOUS FOR A NEW CAR TO HAVE SO MANY MALFUNCTIONS AND PROBLEMS.*AK
I ASKED FORD TO LOOK AT MY BRAKES AT 12, 541 MILES BECAUSE THEY WERE SQUEALING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE NOISE WAS NORMAL, SO NO ACTION WAS TAKEN. NOW, AT 24, 643 MILES, MY BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ARE COMPLETELY WORN, AND FORD WILL NOT TAKE ANY ACTION TO REMEDY THIS SITUATION. *AK
VEHICLE ROLLS BACKWARD WHEN ON STEEP INCLINE WHILE IN DRIVE POSITION. FOR EXAMPLE, AT A RED LIGHT ON STEEP INCLINE AND IN DRIVE IF YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF BRAKE THE VEHICLE ROLLS BACKWARDS. WINDSHIELD REPLACED TWICE DUE TO HORIZONTAL CRACK STARTING AT TRIM (SAME PLACE) (LOWER DRIVER SIDE).*AK
FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH CAUSED THE KEY TO NOT INSERT OR ONCE INSERT THE KEY COULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION, THIS PROBLEM ALSO CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. NLM

FIRST OF I WENT OUT TO START MY CAR ONE DAY AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN THE IGNITION WAS LOCKED IN PLACE IT WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED. SO I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE HAD ALOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THESE AND THEY HAD TO WORK ON ALOT OF FORD FOCUS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM . BUT I WAS JUST OUT OF THE WARRENTY PERIOD 36000 AND I WAS AT 45000 SO THEY CHARGED ME FOR THERE WORK WHICH WAS 500 DOLLARS AND ITS SOMETHING THAT I COULD HAVE NEVER CAUSED TO HAPPEN AND WITH THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER AT ALL LUCKY IT DIDNT HAPPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING BUT I DONT THINK THAT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE EVER HAPPENED.
FORD FOCUS 2000. FACTS ABOUT THIS ACCIDENT INCLUDE THAT THE IMPACT WAS HEAD ON WITH THE DAMAGE TO LEFT FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER , JACOB, WAS BELTED , BUT THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN HIM. THE AIR BAG DID NOT OPEN UNTIL HE HIT THE WIND SHIELD OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE AIR BAGS OPENED THE STEERING WHEEL CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED..COMBUSTION WAS SUBSEQUENT TO THE AIR BAG OPENING AND THERE WAS A GREAT DEAL OF SMOKE THAT THE DRIVER INHALED BEFORE THE PASSENGER IN THE REAR SEAT , MICHAEL WILLIAMS, GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. 07/11/01 10 MONTH OLD CAR WOULD NOT START. HAD BEEN PARKED FOR 5 1/2 HOURS. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THEY INFORMED US THAT THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS(SAID CONSISTED OF 12 WIRES) APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN EATEN BY AN ANIMAL. THAT THE REPAIR, NOT REPLACEMENT, WOULD BE $325. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRENTY. (IT SAYS NOTHING IN OUR WARRENTY ABOUT THIS NOT BEING COVERED), WE OKAYED THE REPAIRS. ON 07/13/01 I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD FIXED THE WIRES AND THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT START. HE TOLD US THAT HE JUMPED IT AND HOOKED IT UP TO THE DIAGNOSTIC CENTER AND IT GAVE HIM A CODE 13, BUT HE DIDNT KNOW WHAT THAT MEANT OR WHY THE CAR WOULNT START. ON 07/17/01 WE WERE TOLD THAT THE COMPUTER WAS DEAD, IT WOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL $950 NOT COVERED.ON 07/20/01 THE MANG. OF DAYTON CALLED ME AND SAID " GET YOUR CAR OFF OUR LOT, RETURN OUR LOANER OR WE WILL REPORT IT STOLEN". WHEN WE GOT THERE ARE CAR WAS NOT PUT BACK TOGETHER, THEY HAD WRITTEN THE WORD "F*CKER" ON THE CARS COMPUTER, AND GAVE US THE. *AK
FUEL GAUGE IS NOT REGISTERING THE PROPER AMOUNT OF FUEL. THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWS A QUARTER TANK OF FUEL, BUT IN FACT, THE TANK IS EMPTY. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED.*AK

THE AMPLIFIER KEEP'S GOING OUT WITH THE SONY SYSTEM THAT WAS INSTALLED IN THE FORD FOCUS SONY ADDITION CAR AND I HAD IT CHANGE TWICE BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE FORD SENT ME A LETTER ABOUT TO HAVE THE SYSTEM REPLACE AND THE SAME THING HAPPEN AGAIN WITH THE NEW AMPERIFER.

WE WERE ON VACATION AND 75MPH ON I-80, IN BIG SPRINGS NE, OUR REAR LEFT TIRE BLEW OUT. OUR CAR SWERVED ALL OVER THE ROAD BUT LUCKY FOR US IT WAS 2:30PM ON JULY 4TH AND TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT. AFTER GETTING CONTROL OF THE CAR WE PULLED UP THE NEARBY EXIT RAMP TO A TRUCK STOP. THE TRUCK SERVICE TECHNICIAN CHANGED OUR TIRE AND PUT ON THE SPARE. THE CLOSEST GOODYEAR TIRE RETAILER OPEN ON 4TH OF JULY, WAS WALMART 150 MILES AWAY. WE HAD TO DRIVE UNDER 50MPH ON A 70MPH HIGHWAY FOR THAT 150 MILES, FINALLY ARRIVING IN KEARNEY NEBRASKA AT 7:30PM. IT SEEMED IMPOSSIBLE THAT WE WOULD NEED TIRES SO SOON. ALSO, KNOW THE TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED AT A FORD DEALER EVERY 5000 MILES (AS PER MY WARRANTY) THE TIRE TECHNICIAN AT WALMART INFORMED US THAT THE TIRES WERE DAMAGED BY A DEFAULT IN THE CAR. HE SAID THAT FORD TWEEKS THE ALIGNMENT ON THEIR CARS TO IMPROVE HANDLING AND THAT SOMETIMES THAT TWEEKING CAUSES UNUSUAL TIRE WEAR. ALSO, HE INFORMED US THEY ARE 65,000 MILE TIRES AND SHOULD NOT BE WORN THROUGH IN 20,000 MILES. HE ALSO POINTED OUT WEAR ON THE INSIDE OF THE OTHER BACK TIRE AND TOLD US WE WOULD NOT MAKE IT HOME DRIVING ON THAT TIRE. FACED WITH FEW CHOICES, WE PURCHASED 2 NEW TIRES SO WE COULD DRIVE HOME TO ST. LOUIS. THE TOTAL COST FOR THIS WAS $177.10. UPON RETURN TO ST. LOUIS I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR INTO MCMAHON FORD AND AFTER 3 DAYS, DOUG SUCHER INFORMED ME THAT THE CAMBER WAS AT 9 WHICH WAS DANGEROUSLY NEAR AN UNSAFE READING. HE ALSO TOLD ME THERE WAS NO REPAIR AVAILABLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE ALSO NEEDS NEW BRAKES DUE TO THIS DEFECT. FURTHERMORE, HE SAID HE CONTACTED THE ENGINEERS AT FORD AND THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAVE NO SOLUTION AT THIS TIME. HE DID CONFIRM THAT THE WEAR ON THE TIRES WAS CAUSED BY THE IMPROPER CAMBER SETTING AND WE WOULD CONTINUE TO GO THRU TIRES AND BRAKES AT AN UNUSUAL RATE. HE ALSO SAID THIS IS A PROBLEM ON ALL FOCUS MODELS AND THEY ARE DOING TIRE REPLACEMENTS ONLY ON THE 2001 MODELS.*AK
CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO TURN KEY IN IGNITION, IT HAD STUCK.CONTACTED DEALER. IGNITION SWITCH CYLINDER HAD BROKEN. REPLACED PART.BUT PROBLEM REOCCURRED.*AK
REAR WHEEL BEARINGS NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO SOME NOISE COMING FROM REAR WHILE CONSUMER IS DRIVING. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
FRONT MCPHERSON STRUTS WERE REPLACED DUE TO VEHICLE MAKING CLUNKING NOISES WHEN MAKING TURNS AT LOW SPEEDS OR AT HIGH SPEEDS. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER REPLACED STRUTS, BUT SOLUTION DID NOT WORK.*AK
BOTH REAR DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS ARE RUSTED. MY WARRANTY STATES " CORROSION COVERAGE UP TO 5 YEARS, REGARDLESS OF MILES DRIVEN". THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE HAVE FAILED TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE. *NM
