WHILE DRIVING AND FOOT IS REMOVED FROM ACCELARATOR, MOTOR RACES, LOSES POWER DIES OUT.*AK BRAKES SQUEAL INTERMITTENTLY. *TT
AFTER 6 MONTHS OF PURCHASE, THE BRAKE SYSTEM SPECIFICALLY ROTORS FAILED. WHILE APPLYING BRAKES THERE WAS A CONSTANT GRINDING NOISE, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE BEFORE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. MECHANIC STATED FORD FOCUS HAD THESE COMMON PROBLEMS, ALSO EXPERIENCING OTHER PROBLEMS SUCH AS ERRATIC SPEEDOMETER FAILURE, AN THE INTERIOR LIGHT FELL OUT FROM ROOF OF VEHICLE, AND 2 INCHES OF WATER ENTERING FROM SIDE OF DOOR. *AK *TT
INTERMITTENTLY VEHICLE WILL STALL OUT AND SMOKE. DEALER HAS REPAIRED VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES; HOWEVER, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.*AK
ON SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 2001, THE STEERING WHEEL ON MY 2000 FORD FOCUS STATION WAGON BEGAN TO COME LOOSE. SPECIFICALLY, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS UNRESPONSIVE WHEN TURNED SLIGHTLY, AND WAS ONLY EFFECTIVE WHEN TURNED SHARPLY. THEN I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS WOBBLING AT THE BASE -- I.E., THE POINT WHERE THE STEERING COLUMN ENTERED THE DASHBOARD. I DROVE TO TED BRITT FORD (WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR) AND LEFT THE CAR FOR SERVICING. ON TUESDAY, JULY 3, 2001, THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN AT TED BRITT (JIM KIEFER OF THE BROWN TEAM) CALLED ME TO INFORM ME THAT THE STEERING COLUMN HAD BEEN ASSEMBLED IMPROPERLY BY THE MANUFACTURER. I UNDERSTOOD HIM TO EXPLAIN THAT THE BOLTS TO THE STEERING COLUMN HAD NOT BEEN SUFFICIENTLY TIGHTENED, AND HAD SIMPLY COME LOOSE OVER TIME. HE STATED THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN THIS SAME PROBLEM BEFORE. I NOTE THAT THE CAR HAS BETWEEN 19,000 AND 20,000 MILES ON IT, AND IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR FOR THIS PROBLEM TO MANIFEST ITSELF. IT SEEMS LIKELY THAT MOST PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT 2000 FORD FOCUS STATION WAGONS HAVE NOT YET PUT 19,000 + MILES ON THEM, SO THIS PROBLEM (IF GENERAL TO ALL OR MANY FOCUSES) MAY STILL BE LATENT IN MANY CASES. WHILE TRAVELING 10MPH IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC CONSUMER HAD A FRONT END COLLISION, CAUSING AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY AND BREAK WINDSHIELD ON PASSENGER'S SIDE. MANUFACTURER AND DEALER HAVE BEEN CONTATCED TO BUY BACK VEHICLE, BUT NO DECISION HAS BEEN MADE AT THIS TIME.*AK CONSUMER SUSTAINED FIRST AND SECOND DEGREE BURNS TO RIGHT ARM BECAUSE OF AIR BAGS. *SLC
WHILE TRAVELING 10 MPH IN TRAFFIC CONSUMER HAD A FRONT END COLLISION THAT CAUSED DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. PASSENGER SIDE OF WINDSHIELD WAS BROKEN FROM FORCE OF AIRBAG. CONSUMER RECEIVED 2ND DEGREE BURNS FROM AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED FOR PURCHASING VEHICLE BACK. NO RESULT HAS BEEN DECIDED AT THIS TIME.*AK

CONSUMER STATED WHEN COMING TO A STOP OR WHEN DOWNSHIFTING VEHICLE WILL STALL/ LOSE POWER STEERING. ALSO, HAS TO KEEP VEHICLE ROLLING IN ORDER TO START VEHICLE BACK UP WHICH TAKES AWHILE. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER. DEALER REPROGRAMMED PCM TO SET BASE THE IDLE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT VEHICLE DID NOT SPEED UP. THEN, TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER. DEALER DISCOVERED ACCELERATOR CABLE WAS BROKEN. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *AK
FUEL LINE SEPARATING AT THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTION ON THE TOP OF GAS TANK CAUSING A SEVERE GAS LEAK ON THE GROUND NEAR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.
WHILE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 5-10 MPH CONSUMER RAN INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIM HEAD-ON. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID DEPLOY, AND CONSUMER SUSTAINED SOME HEAD INJURY AFTER HITTING STEERING WHEEL.*AK
CONSUMER HEARD A GRINDING NOISE FROM REAR OF VEHICLE. DEALER REPLACED REAR WHEEL BEARINGS. *TS
WHEN FUEL LEVEL IS AT HALF A TANK VEHICLE STALLS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS CONDITION HAS GOTTEN WORSE OVER LAST 4 MONTHS, VEHICLE CURRENTLY STALLS AT ANY TIME/ SPEED NO MATTER WHAT FUEL LEVEL IS, AND ON A DAILY BASIS. DEALER CANNOT FIND CAUSE. *AK
VEHICLE NOT ACCELERATING WHILE STEPPING ON GAS PEDAL IN HOT DAYS. FUEL PUMP FAILS AFTER BEING USED FOR 30,000 MILES, HESTITATE TO SPEED UP AT 3,000 RPM AT 4TH GEAR; COULD BE DANGEROUS WHILE TRAVELING UPHILL ON A HIGHWAY AND MIGHT CAUSE A CRASH FROM VEHICLES BEHIND. *AK
VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND WOULDN'T START. GASOLINE WAS SPRAYING ALL OVER ENGINE, AND COMING FROM UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
PE 02 044/ENGINE STALLING: ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS VEHICLE CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT MULTIPLE SPEED. VEHICLE BEEN TO DEALER ON FOUR OCCASIONS, AND DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMNATION.*AK
WHILE PULLING INTO THE DEALER LOTS, A FIRE HAD DEVELOPED IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT. INSURANCE ADJUSTER INSPECTED VEHICLE, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT CAUSE OF FIRE WAS A POWER STEERING PUMP LEAKAGE. DEALER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED, AND NO RESPONSE WAS GIVEN AT THIS TIME. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION ON THIS MATTER.*AK
CAR WOULD ONLY GO INTO REVERSE, WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE OR OTHER FORWARD GEAR IT WAS AS IF THE AUTO WAS IN NEUTRAL. *AK
TO START VEHICLE KEY IN IGNITION SWITCH AND IGNITION COMPUTER CHIP MUST BE IN SYNC WITH ONE ANOTHER. WHEN ITS NOT IN SYNC, VEHICLE CAN STALL OUT WHILE DRIVING IN MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC REPLACED COMPUTER CHIP AND IGNITION SWITCH/ KEY. STALLING PROBLEM HAS REAPPEARED.*AK
WHILE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN AN UNUSUAL NOISE OCCURRED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. AFTER INSPECTION BY DEALER PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
FRONT BRAKES HAVE BEEN SQUEALING SINCE THE CAR HAS HAD A BRAKE JOB UNDER ONE YEAR OUT OF THE SHOWROOM. THE FIRST BRAKE JOB DONE BY TEAM FORD WAS NECESSARY AT UNDER 20,000 MILES INDICATING PREMATURE WEAR AND POSSIBLY DEFECTIVE FROM FACTORY DISC BRAKES. MANY OTHER FOCUS OWNERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE BRAKES STILL SQUEALED AFTER THE BRAKE JOB AND NOW IN LESS THEN 2 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP THE BRAKES AGAIN NEEDED NEW PADS INSTALLED AND ALSO THE ROTORS NEEDED REPLACEMANT. THIS COSTS OVER 350.00. ALL THIS IN UNDER TWO YEARS AND BELOW 30,000 MILES ON A NEW CAR. NOW MY ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC STATES THAT ALL THE WHEEL BEARINGS NEED TO BE REPLACED STILL THE CAR HAD AT THAT POINT LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN I PRESENTED THE CAR TO FRIENDLY FORD OF LAS VEGAS NEVADA, FOR BEARING INSPECTION UNDER WARRANTY, THEY DECLINED TO INSPECT THE BEARINGS AND TOLD ME TO BRING MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. THIS IS NON PERFORMANCE OF WARRANTY WHICH COVERS (SUPPOSEDLY) DEFECTS FOR 3 YEARS OR 36000 MILES. FRIENDLY FORD AND THEIR SERVICE MANAGER ROB REFUSES TO GIVE UNDER WARRANTY SERVICE FOR THE DEFECTIVE BEARINGS AND THE COST OF TWO BRAKE JOBS DONE BY CERTIFIED MECHANICS AT PREMATURE WEAR LEVELS WAS BORNE BY US THE OWNERS. FORD OFFERS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REFUSES TO HONOR A VALID WARRANTY.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT LESS THAN 1 MPH, LIGHTLY STRUCK THE REAR OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *AK
TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES ALREADY DUE TO TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AND MAKING NOISE WHEN DRIVING. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER CANNOT FIND CAUSE OF PROBLEM.*AK
EVERY 12000 MILES CONSUMER HAD THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED. BRAKES WERE MAKING NOISE, AND THERE WAS EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. CONTACTED DEALER.*AK
ENGINE STALLS AT ANY SPEED. CONSUMER FEELS IT'S UNSAFE BECAUSE IT CAN HAPPEN ON FREEWAY WITHOUT WARNING. DEALER HAS REPLACED OXYGEN SENSOR, BUT PROBLEM REOCCURRED. *AK JG
MY CAR STALLS OUT. SOMETIMES WITHOUT WARNING, SOMETIMES WITH AN EXTREME HESITATION WARNING. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE WHICH I SUPPOSED OXYGEN SENSOR MALFUNCTION WAS THE PROBLEM. BUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THAT I EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. MY FIRST INCIDENT WAS ABOUT A YEAR AFTER GETTING THE CAR, THE SECOND ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER THAT. BUT NOW THAT THE CAR IS 3 1/2 YEARS OLD IT'S GOTTEN MUCH WORSE. (I COMPLETED INCIDENT DATE WITH A GUESS OF THE FIRST TIME - BUT AS ABOVE THERE ARE MANY INCIDENTS). IN ONE TRIP, I HAD TO PULL OF THE ROAD 3 TIMES. *LA
IGNITION LOCK FAILS TO TURN WHEN KEY IS INSERTED. STEERING REMAINS LOCKED AND CAR WILL NOT START. FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED WAS JUNE 2001 WHILE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. LOCK WAS DRILLED OUT AND REPLACED. IGNITION HAS LOCKED UP FOR THE SECOND TIME TODAY WITH NO WARNING. WILL HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED 30 MILES TO DEALER. *JB
REAR SUSPENSION: EVERY 3 MONTHS, DEALER MUST ADJUST SUSPENSION COMPONENTS TO STOP LOUD CRACKING NOISES FROM OCCURING (3+ TIMES) AND MUST BE REPAIRED AGAIN NEXT WEEK. FRONT SUSPENSION HAS BEEN REPAIRED TWICE DUE TO CRACKING/CLUNKING NOISES AND MUST BE REPAIRED AGAIN THIS WEEK. DT

CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 50MPH ON HIGHWAY AND NOTICED THAT HEADLIGHTS STARTED BLINKING. ALSO, OVERDRIVE GEAR WILL GO ON AND OFF WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. *AK
FORD HAS REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER TWICE AND ALL ROTORS AND PADS. STILL NO BRAKES WHEN FIRST USED AFTER SETTING. *AK
CONSUMER STATES ONGOING PROBLEM WITH ENGINE STALLING WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. NLM DEALER REPLACED COIL PACK AND FUEL PUMP 6 TIMES. VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY HOWEVER WARRANTY IS NOT VALID. THE WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED CAUSING THE REAR WHEEL TO FALL OFF. THE MAIN BELT BROKE. THE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES BROKE. IGNITION SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE REAR BRAKES SQUEAK ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS MOISTURE IN THE AIR. *TT
CONSUMER TRAVELED ON HIGHWAY ALOT AND VEHICLE STARTED MAKING GRINDING NOISE. BRAKE ROTORS AND DRUMS ON THE LEFT WERE CRUMBLING. MANUFACTURER'S RECALLS 00S20 AND 00S31 DID NOT AFFECT CONSUMER'S VEHICLE DUE TO VIN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING WOULD STEP ON BRAKE PEDAL, AND THE BRAKES WILL MAKE NOISE. PADS HAD WORN OUT AND WERE REPLACED. *AK
ON 9/5/01 ELECTRICIAL SYSTEM: BATTERY/ IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REMOVE AND INSTALL,SPARKS PLUGS REPLACE,IGNITION WIRES REPAIRED
THE THROTTLE CABLE RUNS OVER THE DISTRIBUTOR WIRE'S AND THE THROTTLE CABLE IS WORN THROUGH THE RUBBER DOWN TO EXPOSE THE THROTTLE CABLE WIRES AS WELL AS ONE OF THE DISTRIBUTOR WIRES. FORD SENT A RECALL FOR 2.0L ENGINES WITH A 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSAXLES, FORD PROGRAM # 00B59 AFTER THAT REPAIR MY CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKED BECAUSE AS SOON AS THE KEY WAS PUT IN THE IGNITION AND TURNED FORWARD WITH OR WITHOUT TURNING OVER THE ENGINE THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND REMAIN ON AT ALL TIMES AND AT ALL SPEEDS UNTIL YOU TURN THE IGNITION COMPLETELY OFF. A THIRD PROBLEM ALSO DEALS WITH A RECALL FMVVSS 201. THE NEW A-PILLAR TRIM PANELS THEY REPLACED IN MY CAR DO NOT FIT. FORD MODIFIED THE PILLARS TO MAKE THEM FIT IN PLACE. YOU CAN SEE THE METAL FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR FROM THE INSIDEOF THE CAR. FORD HAD TO CUT PART OF THE PILLARS TO MAKE THEM FIT AND THEY CONSTANTLY DO NOT STAY IN PLACE OVER THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THE NEW A-PILLARS DO NOT FIT PROPERLY AND FORD MODIFIED THE RECALL PARTS TO FIT THEM INTO PLACE. THEY EVEN CRACKED MY WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TRYING TO FIT THEM INTO PLACE.*AK
FORD BLUE OVAL CERTIFIED DEALER MADE TWO ATTEMPS TO STOP LEAK THROUGH HEAT/AC AIR DUCT. AFTER SECOND ATTEMP OWNER WAS DRIVING HOME AND NOTICE COWLING AT BASE OF WINDSHIELD HAD COME LOSE. OWNER PAID NON FORD DEALER TO MAKE REPAIR AFTER THIS BECAUSE OF LACK OF CONFIDENCE IN FORD DEALER. PARTS DAMAGE FROM BEING INSTALL INCORRECTLY AND DEALER MADE A MESS WITH STICKY NON DRYING SEALER WHICH WAS USED BETWEEN WINDSHIELD AND COWLING. OWNER NOW HAS NO CONFIDENCE IN THIS FORD FOCUS , FORD OR IT'S DEALERS .*AK
VEHICLE HAS STALLED 4 TIMES AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 45 - 75 MPH IN HOT/ DRY WEATHER. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER 3 TIMES SO FAR, AND DEALER COULD NOT REMEDY PROBLEM. *AK
I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AND WAS MORE THAN 10 CAR LENGTHS BEHIND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO APPLY MY BRAKES. I DEPRESSED THE PEDAL BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I APPLIED MORE AND MORE PRESSURE UNTIL THEY FINALLY ENGAGED NEAR THE FLOOR AND LOCKED. I TRIED TO AVOID THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND SLID ALONG SIDE SO I DID NOT IMPACT DIRECTLY IN THE BACK. I HAD DAMAGE TO THE LEFT FRONT OF MY CAR AND TO THE RIGHT REAR OF THE OTHER CAR. I WANT TO SEE IF SIMILAR REPORTS HAVE BEEN FILED WITH NHTSA. PLEASE CONTACT ME. *AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING HOME AND NOTICED A CLUNKING OR RATTLING NOISE. WHEN HER HUSBAND PULLED PASSENGER'S REAR TIRE THERE WAS A CAP, AND A SCREW FELL OUT. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT VEHICLE WAS IN FOR A RECALL ON LEFT BACK TIRE, THE PART THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO HAVE BEEN REPLACED HAD FALLEN OUT.*JB
MY FOCUS WAS STRUCK FROM THE REAR ON I-75 BY A LARGE PICKUP TRUCK. AT THE INSTANT OF COLLISION, THE DRIVERS SEAT COLLAPSED. THE SEAT BELT SYSTEM WORKED PERFECTLY, BUT THE COLLAPSE OF THE SEAT RESULT IN WHIPLASH AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO APPLY BRAKES FOR A RED LIGHT, AND CONSUMER HAD TO FORCE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR WHICH SLOWED VEHICLE DOWN. BUT, DID NOT BRING IT TO A COMPLETE STOP. LIGHT CHANGED, AND CONSUMER CONTINUED ON, AND PARKED CAR. DEALERSHIP HAS YET TO EXAMINE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS.*AK

2000 FORD FOCUS STALLS IN TRAFFIC. I'VE HAD MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE CENTER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM. THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE COMPLAINT. I'VE HAD A FLIGHT DATA RECORDER INSTALLED ON IT TO CAPTURE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH IT. HOWEVER, EVERYTIME THE CAR STALLED, IT GOES COMPLETELY DEAD AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO CAPTURE ANY DATA. THE STALLING SEEMS TO OCCUR ONLY DURING THE HOT SUMMER MONTHS. SINCE I LIVE IN ARIZONA, BEING STRANDED IN 110 DEGREEES IN ITSELF IS A SAFETY FACTOR, NOT TO MENTION TRYING TO SAFELY GET OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.*AK
VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE DRIVING. SMOKE & FIRE FIRST NOTICED IN REAR SEAT AREA. TOTAL LOSS WITH FIRE MOVING FROM BACK TO FRONT. *AK
PURCHASED MY CAR IN 2000. MY CAR CURRENTLY HAS 51,000 MILES ON IT NOW. SINCE THAT TIME, I HAVE PURCHASED TWO BRAND NEW SETS OF TIRES AND HAVE HAD MY CAR ALIGNED TWO TIMES.. IHAVE ALSO NEEDED MY TRUNK LATCH REPLACED AND ALTHOUGH MY BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED THEY CONTINUE TO SQUEAL. RECENTLY, WHILR DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE MT CAR SPUTTERED AND SHUT DOWN. I WAITED TWO HOURS AT WHICH POINT IT WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. I TOOK IT TO FORD AND THEY BELIEVED I NEED MY FUEL PUMP REPLACED. THIS OCCURRED ONE MORE TIME APPROXIMATELY THREE DAYS LATER.*AK
I WOULD LIKE TO SUBMIT A COMPLAINT AGAINST CROSSROADS FORD IN RALEIGH, NC WHO HAS ME DRIVINIG A DEATH TRAP. I LEAST THIS VEHICLE LAST YEAR (2000 FORD FOCUS) AND ONLY PUT 9000 MILE ON IT TO DATE. FORD BLUE OVAL CERTIFIED DEALER MADE TWO ATTEMPS TO FIX CASSETTE PLAYER AND STILL DOES NOT WORK CORRECTLY. TAPE DECK WILL TURN ON BY ITSELF WHEN KEY IS THE OFF POSTION OR NOT EVEN IN THE SWITCH.
