WAS TRAVELING 15 MPH AND HAD HIT A PATCH OF BLACK ICE. THE VEHICLE SKID AND HIT A TELEPHONE POLE. UPON HITTING THE TELEPHONE POLE, THE FRONT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER HAD EMERGENCY ROOM TREATMENT. MR SCC *NLM
VEHICLE HIT A BUMP OR POTHOLE IN THE ROAD AND THE FRONT END WOULD MAKE A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE AS IF SOMETHING HAD COME LOOSE OR HAD FALLEN OFF. MR *TT *JB
VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNING, WHICH CAUSED CONSUMER TO LOSE ALL POWER. MR *TT *JB
CONSUMER STATES THAT RIGHT BACK WINDOW GLASS CAME OFF THE TRACK AND GLASS SLIDES DOWN. HAD MOTOR REPLACED 3 TIMES PROBLEM REOCCURED. MR
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE AND IT WILL BE HARD FOR THE CONSUMER TO GET CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. DEALER NOTIFIED. MR
VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN DUE TO THE FUEL SYSTEM FAILING. THE FUEL SYSTEM WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE FAILURE STILL PERSIST. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. MR
I PURCHSED THIS CAR NEW AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. I KEPT TELLING THE SERVICE PEOPLE THAT THE TIRES WERE WEARING FUNNY AND THEY TREATED ME LIKE I WAS STUPID. EVENTUALLY, WHEN THE RACK AND PINION STEERING WENT OUT THEY REALIZED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. BOTH HEADLIGHTS HAVE HAD THE RUBBER REPLACED. THE WIPER MOTOR HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE CAR STARTED HESITATING AND I FOUND THE PVC HOSE WAS MELTED AND THEY COULDNT SEEM TO FIND A REPLACEMENT PART UNTIL I GOT REALLY ANGRY. THE CAR KEPT HESITATING AND IT GOT WORSE. I TRIED EVERYTHING.. REPLACED THE PLUGS, FUEL FILTER. AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER AND HE PUT IT ON THE MACHINE AND 2 CYLINDERS WERE STUCK. AFTER CHECKING FURTHER, HE DISCOVERD THE PLUG WIRES WERE MELTED! THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES AT TIMES BUT THE SERVICE PEOPLE SAY THEY CANT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, IT MUST JUST BE THE WAY I DRIVE. THE FORD FOCUS IS A LEMON AND FORD NEEDS TO MAKE IT RIGHT WITH ALL THE CONSUMERS. NLM

IGNITION TUMBLER BREAKS AND STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP. CAN NOT START CAR. HAPPENED AROUND 29,000 MILES FIRST TIME AND 60,000 MILES THE NEXT TIME. I ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR STALLING. GOING AROUND CORNERS AND UP HILLS IT IS LIKE THE CAR HAS RUN OUT OF GAS. YOU THEN SLOW DOWN AND IT WILL RETURN TO NORMAL. ALSO HAPPENS ON THE ON AND OFF RAMPS OF HIGHWAYS. VERY DANGEROUS.*AK
CAR STALLS WHEN GAS TANK GUAGE READS SLIGHTLY OVER 1/4 TANK MARK. EXPECIALLY ON HARD RIGHT HAND TURNS. DEALER SAID IT WAS FUEL PUMP IN GAS TANK.....OCCURRED AT 36000 MILES +/-. ALSO OCCURS ON STRAIGHT OF WAYS. I DIDN'T GET EXTENDED WARRANTY....SURELY THEY CAN MAKE A BETTER FUEL PUMP. I MAY HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THIS FIXED, BUT I HAVE HEARD THAT FOCUS HAS HAD A RECALL BECAUSE OF STALLING ENGINES......I HAVEN'T GOTTEN A NOTICE.*AK

I HAVE A 2000 FORD FOCUS ZX3 THAT HAS BEEN PLAGUED WITH STEERING PROBLEMS. ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE STEERING WHEEL HAS LOCKED UP WHILE I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A LEFT TURN. ONLY AFTER BRINGING THE CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP, WAS I ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL. AFTER HAVING THE CAR INTO THE SHOP 3 TIMES, THE BEST THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS CAN TELL ME IS THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM SINCE IT IS INTERMITTENT IN NATURE. THE LAST TIME WAS EASILY THE MOST FRUSTRATING. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME IMMOVABLE. UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME, I RAN THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE OF MY VEHICLE INTO A CURB. THIS IS A REPAIR BILL THAT I HAD TO PAY BECAUSE, ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE TECHNICIANS, THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE TRACED. WHILE NO INJURIES HAVE RESULTED FROM THIS PROBLEM YET, IT DOES HAVE THE POSSIBILITY TO BECOME VERY DANGEROUS AND I FEEL OTHERS SHOULD BE WARNED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING FOR 75 MILES WEST ON I96 THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, NO POWER.LUCKLY I MANAGED TO PULL OVER. THE CAR RESTARTED AFTER A FEW MINUTES, BUT THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN A FURTHER 5 TIMES TILL I ARRIVED AT THE DEALER. THEY SPENT A COUPLE OF DAYS WITH THE CAR, ALL THEY COULD TELL ME THAT THEY FELT I NEEDED TO CHANGE THE PLUGS AND LEADS. HAVE NOT DRIVEN THE CAR FOR ANY LONG DISTANCES SINCE.STILL HAVE BURNING SMELL FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT,CAN NOT SMELL INSIDE THE CAR NOW AS FORD DID FIT A CARBON CABIN FILTER.HAVE HAD FRONT SWAY BARS REPLACED, ALONG WITH REAR WHEEL BEARING, UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY AT $100 COST TO MYSELF. PLUGS AND WIRES FORD REFUSED TO PAY FOR.*AK
FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS ARE COMPLETELY WORN OUT WITH LOW MILEAGE ACCUMULATION. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
I HAVE TOTALLY LOST POWER TOO MANY TIMES TO COUNT. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WITHOUT RHYME OR REASON. IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED, 25MPH TO 75MPH. IT CAN HAPPEN WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT OR COLD. IF GOING AT FASTER SPEEDS, I MAY DROP TO 20MPH, AT SLOWER SPEEDS, I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. ON 2 OCCASIONS, AT FASTER SPEEDS, THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS SHAKING AS I LOST POWER. ON 3 OCCASIONS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLICKERED. THIS CAN HAPPEN TOMORROW AND THEN NOT HAPPEN FOR DAYS OR EVEN WEEKS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AT LEAST 5 TIMES. THEY, HOWEVER, ONLY HAVE 2 OF THEM RECORDED. THE OTHER TIMES WHEN I HAD IT IN, I WAS TAKING IT IN FOR RE-CALLS, SO THEY OVIOUSLY DIDN'T RECORD THE ENGINE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IS WRONG. I'VE BEEN TOLD I BOUGHT BAD GAS. I'VE BEEN TOLD TO LET THE ENGINE WARM UP LONGER - ALTHOUGH THAT IS CLEARLY NOT THE PROBLEM. I'VE BEEN TOLD MORE OR LESS, THAT I AM NUTS, NOTHING WAS WRONG. I WAS ALSO TOLD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAN NOT FLICKER, EITHER IT IS ON OR OFF. IT FLICKERED! THE LAST TIME I HAD IT IN I WAS TOLD NOT TO BRING IT BACK IN AGAIN, UNLESS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING OCCURRED #1 THE LOSS OF POWER OCCURS AS I AM DRIVING BY THE DEALERSHIP OR #2 THE CAR TOTALLY BREAKS DOWN. I WAS TOLD THAT WOULD BE THE BEST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN! THEY SAID THEY COULD FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM THEN! A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED, I'VE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY, WITH MY 5YO IN THE BACK SEAT. I NEARLY GOT REAR ENDED BOTH TIMES. I ALSO ASKED THE DEALER IF OTHER OWNERS OF THE FOCUS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I WAS TOLD "NO, YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WE ARE AWARE OF." I HAVE FOUND OUT SINCE THEN, THROUGH OTHERS, SUCH AS YOURSELF, THAT THIS IS NOT TRUE. I HOPE THAT YOU CAN HELP FIND AND RESLOVE THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES A LIFE. THANKS.*AK
WHEN KEY WAS INSERTED INTO IGNITION SWITCH IGNITION IT FAILED TO TURN. 0WNER INDICATED THAT SOMETIMES IGNITION WOULD TURN, BUT VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. OWNER WAS AWARE OF OTHER VEHICLES WITH SAME PROBLEM. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS.*AK
REAR WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED AT 55,000 MILES. FORD REFUSED TO MAKE REPAIR UNDER RECALL .FORD REFUSED TO SELL ME THE IMPROVED OR REDESIGNED WHEEL BEARING PARTS, BUT INSTEAD WOULD ONLY ALLOW ME TO PURCHASE ANOTHER SET OF THE SAME DESIGN BEARINGS THAT ALREADY DEMONSTRATED THAT THEY ARE SUBJECT TO EARLY FAILURE, AS THEY HAD ALREADY DEMONSTRATED BY FAILING AT 55,000 MILES. I AM NOW DRIVING A FORD VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO BE SUBJECT TO UNEXPECTED AND PREMATURE WHEEL BEARING FAILURES BECAUSE IT ENCOMPASSES AN ADMITTED FLAWED COMPONENT, THIS EXPOSES ME AND OTHERS DRIVERS ON THE ROAD TO AN UNWARRANTED RISK INVOLVING VEHICULAR SAFETY AND POTENTIAL PERSONNEL INJURY TO MYSELF AND OTHERS THAT COULD INCLUDE A CATASTROPHIC EVENT. IN THE INTEREST OF PERSONNEL AND PUBLIC SAFETY AND TO DEMONSTRATE ADEQUATE CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY, I FEEL IT IS FMCS RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT THIS SITUATION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WHAT I WANT:1) FMC SHOULD REPLACE THE FLAWED COMPONENTS (REAR WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLIES) WITH THE NEW APPROVED DESIGNED COMPONENTS AT THEIR COST, ON A RECALL OR OTHER BASIS. 2) FMC SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR MY COSTS TO PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF THE DEFECTIVELY DESIGNED REAR WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLIES PRESENTLY ON THE CAR. 3) I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT FMC SHOULD REVIEW AND REVISE AS NECESSARY THEIR INTERNAL PROCEDURES AND POLICIES TO CORRECT THIS TYPE PROBLEM WITH OTHER APPLICABLE FOCUS OWNERS.
BACK PASSENGER'S DOOR FLEW OPEN WHILE VEHICLE WAS GOING 20MPH AROUND A CURVE. CONSUMER HAD TO USE A TELEPHONE CORD TO TIE FRONT PASSENGER HEADREST TO THE DOOR HANDLE TO KEEP DOOR CLOSED. DEALER NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
VEHICLE WAS GOING 50MPH ON HIGHWAY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND STALLED. AIR CONDITIONER/ RADIO CUT OFF, AND RPMS WENT TO ZERO. VEHICLE HAD NO POWER ,AND GAVE NO WARNING. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
MY FORD FOCUS STALLS WHILE IN OPERATION. IT HAPPENS UNDER VARIOUS CONDITIONS: ACCELERATING UP A HILL, ACCELERATING DOWN A HILL, WHILE ON A STRAIGHTAWAY, WHILE GOING AROUND A HAIRPIN TURN. IT HAPPENS WHEN IT'S HOT, COLD, OR NICE OUT. THE ONLY CONSTANT IS THAT WHEN THIS HAPPENS, FIRST THE BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON, THEN THE OIL, ENGINE, AND GAS LIGHTS COME ON; THE STEERING LOCKS UP AFTER A FEW SECONDS, AND THE BRAKES GO AFTER THAT. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS IN THE FALL OF 2000, DURING THE FIRST YEAR I HAD THE CAR. WHEN I BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING, THEY LOOKED AT IT, TOLD ME THE CAR'S COMPUTER HAD NO MEMORY OF ANYTHING GOING WRONG, TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND THAT I MUST HAVE TURNED THE KEY OFF IN THE IGNITION WHILE DRIVING! IT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER AND I BROUGHT MY CAR BACK IN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS TIME, THEY SAID THEY'D FIXED IT. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES TO HAPPEN, HOWEVER, AND THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH IT HAPPENS ARE SO VARIED THAT I CAN'T EVEN FIND A PATTERN TO THIS PROBLEM.*AK

MY ENGINE HESITATES AND ACTS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL ALL THE TIME AND MY CAR HAS NEVER BEEN RECALLED BUT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FOCUS. *AK
MY CAR IS 2 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS 3 TIMES, AND THE ROTORS REPLACED ONCE. I AM ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH A CONSTANT SQEAKING WHEN I USE MY BRAKES. FORD NEEDS TO FIX MY CAR AND THE BRAKES AT NO CHARGE BECAUSE IT IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM.*AK
WHEN EVER THERE IS MOISTURE IN THE AIR (RAIN, SNOW, ETC) THE REAR WHEELS (BRAKES) SEIZE UP ON THE VEHICLE. BOTH SIDES ARE AFFECTED. THE WHEELS "DRAG" UNTIL THE "SEAL IS BROKEN" AND THE WHEELS CAN SPIN FREELY AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. ANY SLIGHT BIT OF MOISTURE AND THE VEHICLE TO STAY PARKED FOR AT LEAST ONE DAY CAUSES THE SEIZURE OF THE WHEELS. ONCE THE WHEELS ARE FREED, THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY OTHER NOTICEABLE EFFECT IN DRIVING. WHEELS HAVE SOMETIMES DRAGGED UP TO 20 FEET BEFORE FREEING, OTHER TIMES THEY "BREAK FREE" IN A COUPLE OF FEET.*AK
I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE BRAKES AT 3000 MILES - TOLD NO PROBLEMS THE BRAKES JUST DO THAT - AT 11993 MILES BRAKES INSPECTED 50 - 60 % LEFT - AT 15561 BRAKES INSPECTED 65 - 75 % LEFT - NOW SOME HOW ONLY 4000 MILES LATER ONLY 10% OF BRAKES LEFT AND NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH A TOTAL OF 19,992 MILES - ALSO TOOK CAR IN SEVERAL TIMES FOR DYING WHILE DRIVING AND TOLD NO PROBLEM - THEN THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CLUTCH CYLINDER AND THEY SAID THAT WAS PROBABLY THE PROBLEM SO THEY REPLACED THAT - STILL HAD THE PROBLEM - THEY HINTED THAT IT WAS ME BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM - THEN FINALLY WHEN MY RADIO WOULD GO ON AND OFF IN THEIR PRESNCE THEY INSPECTED FURTHER AND DISCOVERED MY ENTIRE DASHBOARD WIREING WAS MELTED AND IT IS A WONDER MY CAR DIDN'T CATCH ON FIRE. THEY RE-WIRED THE ENTIRE CAR AND REPLACED MY RADIO AND HAD MY CAR FOR OVER A WEEK - WITHIN A MONTH THE RADIO WASN'T WORKING AGAIN AND THEY REPLACED IT FOR THE SECOND TIME - THEN 3 MONTHS LATER MY ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED - AND BY THE WAY MY RADIO HAS GONE OUT 2 TIMES SINCE THE LAST REPLACEMENT AND THEY SAID IT WAS PROBABLY JUST LOOSE OR SOMETHING AND NOT TOO CONCERNED AND NOW THE BRAKES ALL THIS AT 19,000 MILES.*AK

VEHICLE HAD A TENDENCY TO STALL WITH NO WARNING. OWNER HAD VEHICLE INSPECTED BY A FORD MECHANIC. THE RESPONSE WAS THAT FAILURE WAS DUE TO AN AIR POCKET OCCURRING IN FUEL LINE. THIS WAS A PROBABLE CAUSE, WITH FORD ISSUING A (TSB) FOR STALLING. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS.*AK
BRAKES SQUEALING - TOOK TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP- NOTHING WRONG WITH MY BRAKES THIS WAS ON JAN. 18, 2002- HAD TO HAVE FRONT PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED ON 5/31/2002. THROTTLE STUCK IN JAN 2002. *AK
APPROX, 1 MONTH AGO THE ENGINE STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. 6/6/02 THE ENGINE STALLED OUT ON HIGHWAY OFFRAMP. 6/7/02 CAR STALLED OUT WHILE GOING APPROX 35MPH ON A CITY STREET. THIS SOUNDS ALARMINGLY LIKE THE "FOCUS" OF ONE OF THE TWO NEW INVESTIGATIONS BEING OPENED. I AM GOING TO TRY TO GET MY DEALER TO LET ME OUT OF MY LEASE. THANKS.*AK
I WANT TO REPORT A PROBLEM WITH MY FOCUS. MY CAR SEEMS TO HAVE A PROBLEM THAT THE DEALER IS NOT ABLE TO PINPOINT. WHENEVER I HAVE MY LIGHTS ON AT NIGHT I HAVE A BAD POBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKERING ALONG WITH MY DASH LIGHTS. THE DEALER SAYS IT CANT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I TURN THE LIGHTS ON. MY NIECE ALSO HAS A 2000 FOCUS AND IT DOES THE SAME THING. I THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ON THIS CAR ALONG WITH THE MANY OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR. HAVE YOU GOTTEN ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS NATURE. IT SEEMS TO BE A GROUND PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED IT ON THE ROAD WITH OTHER FOCUSES THAT I SEE DRIVING AT NIGHT.
