WHEN DRIVING ON AN INCLINE AND VEHICLE WAS AT A STAND STILL OR WHEN STOPPING AT A LIGHT CONSUMER NOTICED A NOISE COMING FROM FRONT END, SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS SHIFTING GEARS. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED T DEALER, DEALER HAS YET TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE IN BOTH DRIVE AND REVERSE GEARS. RPMS WILL REV UP HIGH, AND SOMETIMES CONSUMER MUST SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO STOP IT. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE CAUSE. *AK
VEHICLE HESITATES ON A HILL DURING ACCELERATION AND THE MILEAGE PER GALLON OF GASOLINE IS VERY POOR. *MJS
A SPRING UNDER THE CLUTCH WILL BREAK OFF AND HIT DRIVER IN THE LEG WHICH ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THIS PART HAS BROKEN 3 TIMES WITHIN A 5 MONTH PERIOD. CONSUMER STATED THEY WERE NOT FIXING DEFECT, ONLY REPLACING PART WITH THE SAME DESIGN.*AK
MY FRONT BRAKES SQUEAL, DRAG, AND NOW JERK WHEN APPLIED. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER . NO RESULTS, FEEL BRAKES ARE DEFECTIVE - DEALER WILL NOT LET ME TALK WITH FORD REP.- WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF OTHER FOCUS OWNERS HAVING SAME PROBLEM- I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD- REQUEST RECALL. WHEN THE DRIVER BRAKES THE CAR WHILE IN CRUISE CONTROL IT DISENGAGES, BUT WHEN THE RESUME BUTTON IS PRESSED THE CAR HESITATES A FRACTION OF A SECOND AND THEN SURGES FORWARD DANGEROUSLY AS THE CRUISE CONTROL YANKS THE CAR TOWARD THE SET SPEED WITHOUT GRADUAL ACCELERATION. CONSUMER DROVE FORD FOCUS TO TEST THE CRUISE CONTROL AND FOUND THAT IT PERFORMED THE SAME. NLM
OVER A PERIOD OF ABOUT 3 DAYS AND 200 MILES THE STEER WHEEL BECAME LOOSE AND INCREASING AS CONTINUED TO DRIVE. DEALER TOOK WHEEL APART AND TIGHTENED.
THIS ENGINE PROBLEM IS CONSTANT SINCE THE TIME I BOUGHT IT. ENGINE VIBRATES FROM SLIGHT TO SEVERE WHEN AT AN IDLE. SOMETIMES WHEN COMING TO A STOP IT THREATENS TO STALL, BUT DOES NOT, BUT VIBRATES AND SHUDDERS CONSTANTLY. I'VE TAKEN IT SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALER AND NO HELP OR SOLUTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE. I'M AFRAID THAT THIS WILL TURN INTO A SAFETY HAZARD FOR ME AND OTHER DRIVERS, BECAUSE IT IS GETTING WORSE AND COULD END UP STALLING.
BRAKES MAKE NOISE TOOK TO DEALER 6 TIMES THEN THEY SAID FORD TOLD THEM NOT TO DO ANYTHING. STILL UNFIXED. *AK
FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, CAUSING SECOND DEGREE BURNS TO PASSENGER'S LOWER ARMS AND WRIST.*AK
THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN ON 07/17/00 FOR MAKING A LOAD SQUEAKING NOISE EVERYTIME YOU COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE CAR WAS RETURNED THE SAME EVENING BUT UPON INSPECTION THE SQUEAKING NOISE HAD NOT BEEN FIXED. THE MECHANIC EXPLAINED THAT THEY HAD BEEN SEEING ALLOT OF FOCUS'S WITH SQUEAKY BRAKES AND HE HAD DEGLAZED THE REAR DRUMS AND CHAMFERED THE BRAKE PADS FOR A CORRECTIVE ACTION. HE SAID THAT IF I DRIVE THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS THE NOISE MAY GO AWAY AFTER WHAT HE HAD DONE. AND IF THE NOISE DID NOT GO AWAY COME BACK IN AND THEY WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS. THE NOISE DID NOT GO AWAY AND I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 07/20/00 AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY A WEEK BEFORE I WOULD GET MY CAR BACK. THE DEALERSHIP REPRESENTATIVES ALSO TRIED TO TELL ME THAT WHAT THEY WERE DOING WAS BASICALLY COSTUMER P.R. AND THAT IF THE NOISE DOESN'T GO AWAY I MAY JUST HAVE TO PUT UP WITH IT. AS THIS ISSUE IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE BRAKE PADS BEING MADE OF NEW METAL ALLOYS INSTEAD OF ASBESTOS. MY RESPONSE WAS:" THAN WHY AREN'T ALL OF YOUR CARS ON THE LOT SQUEAKING WHEN THEY STOP AND WHY DON'T I HEAR OTHER NEW CARS MAKING THE SAME NOISE."? I GOT NO REAL RESPONSE TO MY INQUIRY OTHER THAN THE SAME STATEMENT THAT THERE MAY NOT BE ANYTHING THEY CAN DO. I AM CONERNED THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG AND I COULD EXPERIENCE SOME TYPE OF BRAKE FAILURE LATER ON IF THEY DON'T FIX THIS PROBLEM. *AK

THE FUEL GUAGE DOES NOT REGISTER THE CORRECT LEVELS OF FUEL. CAUSE UNKKNOWN. THE VEHICLE IS ALSO LEAKING FREON. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
VEHICLE INTERMITTENLY WILL COMPLETE SHUT OFF ,USUALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER ,AND BRAKES. DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE DEFECT.*AK
NOISES COMING FROM REAR SUSPENSION ( DRIVERS SIDE). INITIALLY NOISE APPEARED DURING RIGHT TURNS AT LOW CORNER SPEEDS. NOW THE NOISE IS APPARENT OVER DIPS AND UNEVEN SURFACES. ACCOMPANIED BY THESE NOISES ARE MOVEMENT IN THE REAR SUSPENSION. THE SUSPENSION FEELS AS THOUGH IT IS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. RIDE AND HANDLING HAVE CHANGED DUE TO NOISE. CAR RIDES LOPSIDED AT TIMES AND RUNS WIDE IN CORNERS AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THERE IS INCREASED BODY MOTION IN REAR AT SPEEDS ABOVE 65. THE INITIAL ESTIMATE OF PROBLEM, BY DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT., CONCLUDED THAT THE REAR SPRING WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT. HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT RESOLVE THE SUSPENSION PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM COULD BE THE AXLE. *AK
VEHICLE TOTALLY LOSES POWER WHILE DRIVING, SOMETIMES FOR A SPLIT SECOND AND SOMETIMES PERMANENTLY. IT ALSO AT TIMES WILL NOT RESTART AFTER BEING SHUT DOWN WITHOUT REPEATED ATTEMPTS. THIS VEHICLE DOES HAVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. DEALER HAS NO CLUE AS TO WHY. ALSO REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR REPEATEDLY WONT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT WOULD FLASH INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER REPLACED STERRING WHEEL. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
SINCE NEW THE CAR MADE A STRANGE BACK-GROUND NOISE, NOT TYPICAL OF A STANDARD MANUAL TRANSMISSION. ONCE A FORD MECANICH TOOK A DRIVE WITH US TO VERIFY AND AGREED ON THE NOISE. AFTER FOUR TIMES THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. ALSO THE 4TH GEAR IS HARD TO SHIFT AND THE REVERSE POPS OUT. ALL THE TIMES WE GOT THE CAR BACK WITH THE SERVICE PAPER STATEING: PROBLEM NOT FOUND!. WE DRIVED A SAME MODEL SAME YEAR CAR AT THE GATEWAYFORD LOCATION AND IT DIDN'T CARRY ALL THAT PROBLEMS. LATELY WE ASK THE STORE MANAGER SOME FOR HELP. HE SAD HE'LL HAVE A FORD RAPPRESENTATIVE TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE CAR. THREE WEEKS LATER WE ARE STILL WAITING. WHAT SHALL WE DO?

CONSUMER PURCHASED VEHICLE BRAND NEW. TOOK VEHICLE OFF DEALER'S LOT. WAS LATER CONTACTED BY MANUFACTURER, ADVISING HER OF RECALL 99V346000/ MANUFACTURER'S RECALL 99S35/ CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OFF BEFORE LEAVING THE DEALER. CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALER CONCERNING RECALL REPAIRS. DEALER REFUSED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH AND IN FIFTH GEAR, VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF AND COMPLETELY DIE. DEALER HAS RUN VEHICLE THROUGH COMPUTER , BUT CANNOT DETECT ANY DEFECTS. THIS IS A REOCCURRING DEFECT. ALSO, FUSE BOX AND MAIN WIRING HARNESS MELTED, ALMOST CAUSED FIRE. *AK *ML

I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH I WAS TRAVELLING A LOW RATE OF SPEED (LESS THAN 10MPH) AND BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. I RECEIVED 2ND DEGREE BURNS ON MY HAND. THERE WAS ONLY SCRATCHES ON MY FRONT BUMPER, SO I AM CONCERNED ABOUT WHY THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *AK

FUEL GAUGE IS NOT OPERABLE. WHEN CONSUMER FILLS UP GAS TANK, IT DOESN'T MEASURE. ALSO ELECTRICAL WINDOWS DON'T WORK AT ALL. *AK
FUMES COMING FROM VEHICLE'S ENGINE CAUSED BREATHING PROBLEM TO THE DRIVER. YH
