MY 2001 FORD FOCUS ZX3 HAS STALLED AROUND TURNS AND WHEN IT GETS BELOW 1/3 TANK CONSISTENTLY SINCE I GOT IT, AND IN MID MARCH IT COMPLETELY STALLED OUT AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND TOOK NEARLY 20 MINUTES TO RESTART. I JUST VISITED FORDS WEB SITE TO FIND OUT ANY RECALL INFORMATION AND IT CAME UP WITH NO RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM, OR ANY OTHER PROBLEM. *NM
CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL ON HIS DAUGHTER'S VEHICLE FOR THE FUEL PUMP. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND LEFT IT THERE FOR 2 DAYS. WHEN CONSUMER PICKED UP THE VEHICLE HE FOUND THAT DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE PARTS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED. ALSO, CONSUMER DID NOT THINK THAT MECHANIC ACTUALLY CHECKED THE VEHICLE AFTER DOING RECALL REPAIRS. HE STATED THAT THE RECALL CALLED FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL PUMP WITH FULLER. VEHICLE WAS STILL DOING THE SAME THING, HESITATING AND STALLING. *AK
I'M HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING UP AND THE IGNITION KEY WON'T TURN. I TRIED JILTING THE WHEEL TO TRY TO GET IT TO UNLOCK.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A PINGING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. SEVERAL MOMENTS LATER CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND AND THE ENGINE DIED. CONSUMER FOUND OUT THAT THE ENGINE HAD THROWN A ROD THROUGH THE ENGINE BLOCK.*AK
HISTORY OF FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEM: 11/25/03: ENGINE HESITATION, LOSS OF POWER, ENGINE STALL (PD REPAIR COST- DIAGNOSTIC TEST; NO PROBLEMS FOUND). 2/04: RECEIVED RECALL LETTER FROM FORD REGARDING FUEL PUMP IN MY VEHICLE. 3/8/04: RECALL WORK PERFORMED(REPLACED FUEL DELIVERY MODULE - N/C). 3/9/04: SAME PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED(REPLACE DPFE SENSOR AND CLEAR DTCS - N/C). 6/04: SAME PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED (DIFF. DEALER - REPLACED FUEL FILTER- PD REPAIR COST). 8/5/04: SAME PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED (BROKE DOWN IN OHIO - REPLACED VACUUM HOSE - PD REPAIR COST). VEHICLE HAS STALLED AT LEAST 20 TIMES WHILE OPERATING. 2 CLOSE-CALLS: 8/5/04 IN OHIO- STALLED IN BUSY INTERSECTION WHILE TURNING. 9/04: ALMOST HIT CHILD ON BIKE IN NEIGHBORHOOD DUE TO VEHICLE STALL AND LOSS OF ASSISTED STEERING. *NM
I BOUGHT A USED 2001 FORD FOCUS IN FEBUARY OF 2004. THE IGNITION JAMMED AND WAS REPLACED IN MARCH 2004. I WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND PAID 300 DOLLARS TO GET A NEW ONE. ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2004 MY IGNITION GOT JAMMED AGAIN. I AM SAPPOSED TO HAVE A 12 MONTH WARRENTY OR 12,000 WHATEVER COMES FIRST, SO ITS IN THE SHOP NOW BEING REPAIRED. I HAVE READ ALOT ON THIS AND IT SEEMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE. *AK
I PURCHASED A 2001 FORD FOCUS IN JAN/2001. AFTER 16000 MILES MY ROTORS CRACKED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH OTHER BRAKE PARTS THIS REPAIR WAS DONE ON 10/15/02 AND WAS COVERED BY MY WARRANTY. AFTER 30000 MILES I BEGAN TO HEAR A SQUEAKING NOISE WHENEVER I APPLIED THE BRAKES. AT 30528 MILES, ON 03/05/04, I WAS INFORMED BY THE OASIS FORD DEALERSHIP (OLD BRIDGE, NJ) TECHNICIAN THAT MY ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH OTHER BRAKE PARTS AND BECAUSE THIS WAS A WEAR PROBLEM, IT WAS NOT COVERED BY MY VERY EXPENSIVE WARRANTY. I TOLD HIM THAT THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED ONLY 14000 MILES AGO. HE SAID THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE ROTORS PROVIDED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY. HE SAID THEY WERE TOO THIN AND COULD NOT BE MACHINED BECAUSE THAT WOULD REDUCE THEM BELOW "SPECS". THIS REPAIR WOULD COST ME $360.00 NOW AND, PRESUMABLY, ANY FUTURE BRAKE REPAIR. THE ROTORS APPEAR TO BE OF INFERIOR QUALITY AND PERHAPS A SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. I AM AVAILABLE FOR ANY FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, DUAL AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. NO INJURIES REPORTED. *AK

GEAR SHIFT LOCKED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, VEHICLE BECAME INOPERATIVE. *AK
FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS; I HAD 21K+ MILES ON MY 2001 FORD FOCUS, THE CAR WOULD VIBRATE WHEN BRAKING, AND SPECIALLY DOWNHILL. I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT I NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS, AND "MOST LIKELY ROTORS". THAT'S RIDICULOUS FOR SUCH LOW MILES. FEARING FOR MY FAMILY SAFETY I DID REPLACE THE PADS AND ROTORS, BUT NOT WITH THE DEALER.*AK
ON FEB 28, 2004, DRIVING ON I-10 FROM LOUISIANA TO HOUSTON, FIRST HEARD A POP NOISE, THEN IMMEDIATELY FELT LOOSING CONTROL OF WHEEL, TRIED TO HIT BREAKS TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR, AND THEN MY 3 YEARS OLD FORD FOCUS FLIPPED OVER, AND THANKS GOD NOBODY GOT INJURED, AND EVERYONE WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT. CHECKED THE CAR, THE TREAD ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE(GOOD YEAR) LOOKED RIPPED OFF, ASSUME THIS TIRE BLEW OR EXPLODED DURING THE DRIVE ON HIGHWAY, WHICH IS VERY SERIOUS SITUATION. INSURANCE IS STILL INVESTIGATING THE CASE. BUT MORE RIDICULOUSLY THE LA POLICE GAVE A TICKET FOR 'CAN'T MAINTAIN THE CAR". WE GOT 4 NEW TIRES FOR ONLY ABOUT 2 MONTHS, EVERYTHING IS IN GOOD MAINTENANCE, AND THERE WAS NO DRIVING FAULT OR OTHER ACCIDENT ASSOCIATED WITH MY ACCIDENT, PLUS WE WERE THE VICTIMS OF THIS TIRE EXPLOSION, WE ALMOST LOST OF LIFE DURING THE DEADLY FLIP OVER. THE INSURANCE IS DOING THE INVESTIGATING ABOUT TIRES, WE DON'T HAVE MUCH TO COMPLAIN, BUT IT MAY TAKE A WHILE TO DEAL WITH GOODYEAR THEN. NOW FOR THIS 170$ TICKET, 5 HOURS DRIVE FROM MY HOME IN MISSISSIPPI, WHAT WE SHOULD DO TO DEAL WITH THE LA POLICE? WHILE CONSUMER'S HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND ATTEMPTING TO GET OVER INTO THE NEXT LANE, AS HE ACCELERATED AND TRIED TO GO OVER, VEHICLE SUDDENLY DROPPED IN THE FRONT, CAUSING HIM TO LOSE THE ABILITY TO STEER AND HIT A RETAINER WALL, FLIPPING OVER, LANDING, AND FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC. CONSUMER'S HUSBAND DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURY BECAUSE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *AK
THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2001 FORD FOCUS FAILED AFTER MY OWNING IT FOR LESS THAN 2 1/2 YEARS AND IT'S AROUND 58,000 MILES. I BOUGHT IT NEW. THE DEALERSHIP IS SURPRISED AND SAID THEY'VE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE; IT'S ONLY PARTIALLY BEING COVERED BY WARRANTY. *AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL 03V482000 CONCERNING FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND DEALER REPLACED FUEL PUMP, CHARGING $25.00 FOR PARTS AND $40.00 DO FOR LABOR. TOTAL CHARGE WAS $75.00. CONSUMER OBJECTED PAYING FOR LABOR BECAUSE THE RECALL LETTER INDICATED IT WAS FREE OF CHARGE. *AK *SC
NHTSA RECAL 03V482000 CONCERNING STALLING. RECALL REMEDY WAS PERFORMED ON FEBRUARY 17,2004. SINCE THEN, VEHICLE HAS STALLED FOUR TIMES. WHILE ACCELERATING VEHICLE HESITATED, AND THEN STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO CHARGED THE CONSUMER TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC TEST.*AK *MR
BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS BROKE WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING KIDS TO SCHOOL. THE FORD FOCUS (2001) FRONT END DROPPED TO THE GROUND WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.*AK
2001 FORD FOCUS KEY WILL NOT TURN IN IGNITION AND STEERING LOCKS. DEALER WANTS $410 OR MORE TO FIX. JUST OFF WARRANTY.
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONSUMER LOST STEERING CONTROL. THIS CAUSED A MINOR CRASH, AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A DITCH. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *AK

BOTH, CONSUMER AND WIFE HAD THEIR SEAT BELTS ON, BUT SUSTAINED BACK AND LEG INJURIES. ALSO, A RECALL WAS ISSUED ON THE FUEL LINES. INSURANCE COMPANY HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED, AND WAS TOLD BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY THAT VEHICLE WAS TOTALED.*AK *TR
CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE BUT DUE TO THE VEHICLE HAVING A "BRANDED TITLE", THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY $430.48 FOR THE FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT. (NAR) *PH *CB
WHEN I TRIED TO START MY CAR THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE INGNITION SWITCH CYLINDER BOTH WERE LOCKED UP. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEN FOUND OUT THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER ALL OF THE EXPENSES SO I WAS OUT $350. NOW WHY DO YOU BY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY IF IT DOESN'T COVER SOMETHING LIKE THIS THAT IS APPARENTLY A FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF THE CAR?? I WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THIS MATTER.
KEY WILL NOT TURN IN IGNITION. THE TOW-TRUCK DRIVER WHO TOWED MY CAR SAID THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. HE SAID HE HAS DONE NINE TOWS THIS WEEK FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM AND HAD TOWED TWO THIS WEEK TO THE DEALERSHIP I TOOK MY CAR. OF COURSE, MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY = $300 FIX.*AK
THE IGNITION LOCKS WHEN THE KEY IS PLACED WITHIN THE CYLINDER AND THE CAR IS ATTEMPTED TO START. THE IGNITION CYLINDER DOES NOT TURN AT ALL. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND USE ANOTHER KEY, BUT THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. *LA
IGNITIOIN SWITCH FREEZES. WHEN KEY IS INSERTED THE SWITCH WILL NOT TURN. A LOCKSMITH SHOWED ME HOW TO FREE IT UP BY TAPPING ON THE SWITCH WITH A SCREWDRIVER...!*AK
ALTERNATOR IS OVER CHARGING WITHOUT WARNING. CONSUMER IS CONCERNED THAT IT WILL BURN OUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. *AK
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. THE GAS PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE CABLE POPPED OUT OF THE THROTTLE MECHANISM AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB

FUEL FILTER PROBLEM IS DOCUMENTED ON A SO-CALLED RECALL NOTICE NO. 03N01, BUT FORD IS ADVISING DEALERS TO REPLACE PART ONLY IF IT FAILS AND WILL NOT STAND BY IT'S CONSUMERS FOR FULL REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH DEFECTIVE PART.
WHEN TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE, CONSUMER NOTICED A BIT OF HESITATION ON THE ENGINE. AS DRIVER STARTED TO BACK-OUT OF THE GARAGE AND HEADED ON TO THE NEIGHBORING STREET, VEHICLE STALLED AND DIED. (NAR) *LA *CB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TOT HE DEALER BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO HONOR THE RECALL INDICATING THERE WAS NOT RECALL AT THIS MOMENT. THE CONSUMER WAS ASKED TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH WOULD COST $90.00. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD FOCUS. SHE HAD HER VEHICLE REPAIRED ACCORDING TO RECALL# 03V482000 ( FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). AFTER THE REPAIR WHILE AT A LOCAL GAS STATION SHE SAW A PUDDLE OF GASOLINE FROM UNDER THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER AND AN UPDATED VERSION OF THE COMPONENT WAS INSTALLED. YEARS LATER, WHILE DRIVING THE DRIVER-SIDE HEAD LIGHT FAILED. SHE PULLED OVER TO A LOCAL STORE AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. MINUTES LATER SMOKE ENGULFED THE FRONT-END OF THE VEHICLE, AND THEN FLAMES ERUPTED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES AND CUT THE BATTERY CABLES. A FIRE FIGHTER SPECULATED THAT THE BATTERY CAUSED THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED IN REFERENCE TO RECALL #: 02V288000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:BATTERY:CABLES). UPON CONTACT SHE WAS ADVISED THAT HER VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE VIN RANGE. SHE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF SENDING CORRESPONDENCE TO THE MANUFACTURER THAT EXEMPLIFIES THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS . THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 115,000.

WHILE BRAKING, THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE BRAKE ROTORS. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WERE WORN. THE MECHANIC TRIED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. *JB

MY2001 FORD FOCUS ZX3( MANUAL TRANSMISSION )WITH OVER 105,000 MILES ON IT HAS HAD A ELECTRONIC THROTTLE PROBLEM SINCE IT HAD 30,000 MILES ON IT. INTERMITTENTLY THE ENGINE SPEED WOULD NOT DECREASE WHEN YOUR FOOT IS TAKEN OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CAR WOULD ACT LIKE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED. THE CAR COULD BE CONTROLLED BY HEAVY BRAKING OR DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH. IT WAS TAKEN INTO THREE DIFFERENT FORD DEALER AT LEAST SEVEN DIFFERENT TIMES ONLY ONCE DID THEY CLAIM TO SEE THE PROBLEM. THAT TIME THE MECHANIC SHOW ME DISCONNECTING A ELECTRICAL PLUG UNDER THE HOOD CAUSED THE THROTTLE CONTROLS TO GO TO A FAIL SAFE MODE MAKING THE PROBLEM DISAPPEAR FOR PERIOD OF TIME(DAYS).I WAS TOLD TO BRING IT BACK IN WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I DID THAT, MECHANIC WAS KNOW LONGER WITH THE DEALERSHIP. SEVERAL PARTS WERE CHANGED SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES BUT DID NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE PROBLEM IS PRESENT THE ENGINE SPEED WILL DECREASE TO A FAST IDLE ONCE THE CAR COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE PROBLEM WILL GO AWAY SOMETIMES AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING BUT NOT ALWAYS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY STALLED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE. ALSO THE BRAKE ROTORS PADS, AND CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON DUE TO THE FUEL PUMP BEING INOPERATIVE. FORD MADE THE REPAIRS BUT FAILED TO REPLACE THE O RINGS WHICH CAUSED THE PUMP TO FAIL AGAIN. FORD HAD FUEL PUMP RECALL #03NO1 BUT THE SAME EXACT PART WENT BAD. THE ROTORS WERE WARPED DUE TO THE CALIPERS SEEPING FLUID, BINDING THE PISTONS. *SC *JB
DT: THE IGNITION CYLINDER FAILED TWICE. IT FAILED IN 2003 AND IN 2005. FORD TELS ME THERE IS HIGH FAILURE RATE ON THESE CYLINDERS. THE KEY LOCKS UP, AND YOU CAN'T GET THE KEY OUT. AND YOU CAN'T TURN THE WHEEL. *AK
AT 38000 MILES THE IGNITION CYLINDER IN THE CONSUMER'S 2001 FORD FOCUS FAILED. THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. *JB *NM
WHEN AT A STOP THE FUEL TANK STARTED TO LEAK. THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE AND HAD TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER AND HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP INFORM THE CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS PERTAINING TO THE FUEL LINE. THE DEALERSHIPS MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *NM
WHILE DRIVING OVER ICE AT 25 MPH THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, CONSEQUENTLY THE VEHICLE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, HOWEVER THE FORCE OF THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG CAUSED THE WINDSHIELD TO SHATTER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NLM *JB
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, IT CAUGHT FIRE, DUE TO A BATTERY CABLE WIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR ANALYSIS. *JB
MY DAUGHTER SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AT 40MPH AND THE VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL JERKED TO THE RIGHT AND SHE FELT A DROP IN THE LEFT FRONT SIDE OF THE CAR, THE CAR STARTED SLIDING AND HIT A CURB. WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A STOP THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL WAS BROKE OFF. A TOW TRUCK TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID IT NEEDED A CONTROL ARM; HUB ASSEMBLY; TIE ROD END; TIRE & WHEEL; AXLE; BRAKE LINE; BRAKE PADS & ROTOR; TRANS PAN AND INNER TIE ROD. THEY CONCLUDED IT WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND IT WAS HER FAULT AND THE COST WOULD BE $2,387.77 JUST FOR THE MECHANICAL ONLY. SHE PURCHASED THE CAR SEPTEMBER OF 2002, PUTTING OVER $8,000.00 DOWN ON THE DAY OF PURCHASE WITH A REMAINING BALANCE OF $6,000.00. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT SHE HAD NO INSURANCE. I BELEIVE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH CAR TO CAUSE IT TO GO OUT OF CONTROL, AND FEEL FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS IT.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER ADDING FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON DECEMBER 15, 2003 AND RECURRED APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS AGO. THE IGNITION LOCK ASSEMBLY SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE COST TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS $433 AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE; HOWEVER, THE FIRST REPAIR WAS COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. THE IGNITION SWITCH SHOULD NOT FAIL AFTER THREE YEARS. THE FORD MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO ASSIST BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,474 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,732.
