THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING FOR A MONTH. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
MY 2001 FORD FOCUS SE WAGON HAD ITS IGNITION SWITCH MALFUNCTION. FORD DEALERSHIP SAID GRAPHITE AND/OR WD40 WOULD NOT FIX IT, THAT IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT COST USD$440 AND I LOST A FULL DAY'S PAY. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID HE'S RESPONDED TO 24 CALLS ON FORD FOCUS IGNITION FAILURES. I FOUND A WEBSITE CALL WWW.AUTOMOTIVETALK.NET WHERE 85 PEOPLE HAVE MADE COMPLAINTS ON THE IGNITION SWITCH THIS YEAR. WHAT DO WE HAVE TO DO TO START A RECALL. AIRBAGS WHERE IMPROPERLY CONFIGURED IN THE PASSENGER SIDE. *LA THE CONSUMER REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A STOP. THE IMPACT WAS NOT SEVERE BUT THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT ALSO SHATTERED THE WINDSHIELD. *NM
THE IGNITION SWITCH LOCKED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE BECAME INOPERATIVE. *AK SEVERAL PEOPLE TRIED TO UNJAM THE KEY BUT NO SUCCESS. A TOW COMPANY WAS CALLED AND THE TOW COMPANY STATED THAT MANY FORD FOCUSES WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE TOW ADVISED TAPPING ON THE KEY WITH A HAMMER TO SEE IF THE TUMBLERS WOULD REALIGN. IT WORKED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN HOME AND AGAIN THE IGNITION JAMMED BUT AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WITH THE HAMMER THE KEY TURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PART AND A SPECIAL LOCKSMITH WAS REQUIRED FOR THE REPAIR. *CB *JB
REAR AND FRONT TIRES SHOWED SIGNS OF EXCESSIVE WEAR. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED, BUT THE EXCESSIVE WEAR STILL PERSISTED. DEALER AND THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *AK VEHICLE HYDROPLANED AND ALMOST CAUSED A ACCIDENT. DEALER REPLACED TIRES WITH SECOND SET OF DUNLOP SPORT AZ TIRES. *PH
IN DEC,OF 2003 I HAD CAUSE TO GO TO FORD AND COMPLAIN ABOUT THE BRAKES ON MY CAR,THIS WAS THE 4TH TIME I HAD COMPLAINED TO THEM. AT THIS TIME THEY SAID THE FRONT BRAKES WERE WORN TO 0.I WAS INTO FORD JUST 2 MONTHS BEFORE FOR THE SAME THING AND NOTHING WAS SAID AT THE TIME,NOW THEY DECIDED THAT WE WERE GOING TO PAY FOR THE WHOLE THING ROTORS INCLUDED I WAS SHOCKED BECAUSE I WAS TOLD THAT THE CHEAP BRAKES THAT FORD PUTS ON ONLY LAST FOR LESS THEN 12,000 MILES WE PAID TO HAVE THEM REPLACED BECAUSE FORD GAVE US NO CHOICE,NOW WE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BACK BRAKES MAKING A LOUD SQUILING NOISE I AM SO UNHAPPY THAT THEY CHOOSE TO DO NOTHING.*AK
THE KEY WON'T TURN IN THE IGNITION. THE EMERGENCY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE LOCKSMITH TOLD ME THAT HE SEES IT A LOT IN FORDS. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO GET THE IGNITION REPLACED. MY MOTHER HAS THE SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR & SHE HAS HAD HER IGNITION REPLACED TWICE! THIS IS FOR A 2001. *LA
AT 75 MPH IN INTERSTATE TRAFFIC, VEHICLE ENGINE MISSED THEN LOST POWER. ENGINE WOULD NOT RISE ABOVE 1000 RPM. NARROWLY AVOIDED COLLISION IN MERGING OUT OF TRAFFIC. ENGINE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 1500 RPM, EVENTUALLY STALLED. AFTER 15 MINUTES, RESTARTED AND OPERATED NORMALLY FOR 5 MINUTES BEFORE STALLING AGAIN.*AK
I HAVE HAD 3 FUEL PUMPS INSTALLED IN 5 WEEKS. THIS IS MORE THAN JUST A RECALL PROBLEM - THIS IS A DEFECTIVE COMPONENT. HOW DO I DOCUMENT THIS FOR THE LEMON LAW IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES WERE IN OPERATIVE. SHE COULD NOT TELL HOW FAST SHE WAS DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB ON SOME OCCASIONS WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED THE ODOMETER ALSO STOPPED WORKING AND THE VEHICLE IDLED ERRATICALLY. AT TIMES WHEN THE CLUTCH WAS PRESSED WHILE STOPPING THE ENGINE WOULD DIE WHICH RESULTED IN LOSS OF POWER. THE FUEL GAUGE WAS ALSO UNSTABLE AND AS A RESULT THE CONSUMER IS NEVER SURE HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE VEHICLE. *NM
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE ENGINE MY 2001 FORD FOCUS STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR BUT IT GOT TO WHERE I COULD ONLY GO A MILE OR TWO AND THEN THE ENGINE WOULD DIE AGAIN. THE FORD DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP TO THE TUNE OF $450 BUT I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS REFERENCES ON THE WEB TO OTHER FOCUS OWNERS HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND I THINK FORD SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THE CAR AND TAKEN CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE A LONG COMMUTE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND I DEFINITELY THINK THAT GETTING RUN OVER BY SOME OTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE MY CAR STALLED OUT IN FRONT OF THEM IS A "SAFETY" ISSUE.*AK
FORD FOCUS 2001 IGNITION LOCKED. WASN'T ABLE TO TURN KEY AND HAD TO HAVE IGNITION REPLACED FOR RELATIVELY NEW CAR.*AK
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A ROUTINE INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ROTORS AND MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND REPLACED THEM THREE TIMES DUE TO WORN OUT PARTS. *AK
TURN SIGNAL CAME ON AND OFF WHEN USED. DEALER WAS AWARE THAT THE PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT.*AK
IGNITION KEY DIDN'T TURN ON MY FORD FOCUS 2001 AT NOVEMBER 2003. MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AT THAT DATE. I'VE SPENT HALF OF HOUR TO LEAVE MY FIELD WORK PLACE. BECAUSE OF REPAIR IS TOO EXPANSIVE, I'VE BOUGHT A NEW IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER FOR $84 AND DRILLED OLDONE BY MYSELF.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL HEAD ON. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
FUEL PUMP FAILURE AT 22,000 MILES. DEALER REFUSED REFUND DUE ON EXTENDED FUEL SYSTEM WARRANTY STATING THAT THE WARRANTY COVERED THE FUEL TANK ONLY. *LA
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD FOCUS. APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS AGO, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT HER GAS MILEAGE WAS SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN OTHER 2001 VEHICLES OF THE SAME MODEL. THE DEALER STATED THAT RECALLS WERE ISSUED FOR THE FORD FOCUS, HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS REGARDING GAS MILEAGE. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. I HAVE A 2001 FORD FOCUS ZX3. AROUND APPROXIMATELY 36,000 MILES I STARTED NOTICING THE ENGINE MISSING. SHORTLY AFTER WHEN THE GAS TANK WOULD BE 1/4 FULL AND BELOW THE CAR WOULD EXPERIENCE WHAT FELT LIKE FUEL STARVATION, FREQUENTLY IN COORDINATION WITH A SHARP TURN. THE CAR WOULD SPIT AND SPUTTER FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN IT WOULD CLEAR UP AND BE FINE. THIS USUALLY OCCURRED WHEN ACCELERATING ON AN INTERSTATE ON RAMP AND WAS (AND STILL IS) POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. THE SEVERITY AND FREQUENCY OF THE CAR STALLING GRADUALLY BECAME WORSE OVER A FEW MONTHS TIME. NOW THE CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 46,000 MILES ON IT. ON NOVEMBER 9, 2003 WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE TRAVELING AT 65 MPH WITH 1/2 TANK OF GAS THE CAR STARTED GOING THROUGH FUEL STARVATION. IT LAST A FEW SECONDS AND THEN CLEARED UP. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. BEFORE THE LAST INCIDENT, I THOUGHT THAT IF I MADE SURE THE GAS TANK WAS NOT LOW THE CAR WOULD BE OKAY. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THIS INCIDENT AFTER THE LAST INCIDENT. I SEARCHED THE NHTSA SITE AND FOCALJET. I SAW THAT MANY PEOPLE WERE SUFFERING THIS PROBLEM AND LEARNED WHAT THE PROBABLE CAUSE WAS. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS THE LINING OF THE GAS TANK COMING LOOSE AND KEEPING THE FUEL DELIVERY MODULE FROM TAKING UP AS MUCH GAS AS THE CAR NEEDS TO KEEP RUNNING. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP ON NOVEMBER 11, 2003. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME HE HAD HEARD OF THE PROBLEM, BUT HAD NEVER HAD A CUSTOMER THAT HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT. I AM TAKING THE CAR IN ON NOVEMBER 18, 2003 TO GET REPAIRED. TO BE CLEAR, THE CAR HAS NOT TOTALLY STALLED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. IT ACTS LIKE IT IS GOING TO DIE AND THE RPMS GO DOWN. PUSHING IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DOES NOT MAKE THE RPMS GO UP. THE CAR RUNS VERY ROUGH FOR SEVERAL SECONDS (SPITTING AND SPUTTERING IS HOW I DESCRIBE IT) AND THEN CLEARS OUT. *LA
MY 2001 FORD FOCUS EXHIBITS ALL THE SYMPTOMS OF THE FAULTY FUEL MODULE. HOWEVER, WHEN I CONTACTED FORD, THEY SAID THAT MY VIN WAS NOT ONE OF THE VEHICLES AFFECTED. I'D LIKE THE FUEL MODULE REPLACED, AS IT IS FAULTY. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME?*AK
INTERMITTENTLY VEHICLE STALLED. THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER. THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. AT THIS TIME THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AT THE CONSUMER'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP. *AK *JB *NM
WHEN I DRIVING MORE THAN 40 MILES CONTINUALLY THE ENGINE STALLS, I HAVE TO WAIT AND MAKE SEVERAL TRIES TO RESTART IT AGAIN, SOME TIMES WHILE I IN THE HIGHWAY ITS MAKE ME LOSE THE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE LOST OF ACCELERATION.*AK
DT:THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD FOCUS LX. THE IGNITION KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP , AND WHEN THE CONTACT GOT THE BILL IT WAS $500, INCLUDING TOWING. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED TWICE IN NOVEMBER 2003. IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, AND AGAIN ON AUGUST 8, 2005 IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. THE REPAIR INVOICE FOR AUGUST 8, 2005 STATED DIAGNOSTIC KEY WILL NOT TURN IN IGNITION, NECESSARY TO REMOVE STEERING BEZELS, REMOVE IGNITION SWITC TO DRILL LOCK CYLINDER, REMOVE GUTS AND HOUSING. ALSO, IT WAS NECESSARY TO CODE NEW LOCK CYLINDER AND INSTALL IT. THIS COST $257.00. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TTHE DEALERSHIP THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH CYLINDER. THE COST $103.66 AND THE TOWING WAS $85.00 . THE SECOND TIME ALL THIS WAS OUT OF POCKET, BUT THE FIRST TIME IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *AK THE CONSUMER WAS REIMBURSED $195, 50% OF THE PARTS AND LABOR. *NM
THE FLOOR BOARD ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE HAD TWO INCHES OF WATER ON THE FLOOR. THE DRIVER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ANALYSIS. THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE WATER WAS COMING IN THROUGH THE COWLING. *AK *PH *NM
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY STALL. THE CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE NOT TO STALL. CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, AND THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. *PH
2001 FORD FOCUS SERIOUS BRAKE PROBLEMS. I BOUGHT A NEW 2001 FORD FOCUS SE IN MAY 2001. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE I NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE. FORD REPLACED "CRACKED BRAKE SHOES" ON THE CAR AND SAID IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. ITS NOW OCTOBER 2003, MY AIR CONDITIONING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. ALSO MY CAR WAS AGAIN MAKING LITTLE SQUEAKING NOISES WHEN BRAKING. SO, I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT AT 22,000 MILES MY CAR BRAKES WERE TOTALLY SHOT, THAT IT WAS COMPLETELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE, I NEEDED ALL NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS IMMEDIATELY, AND THAT I SHOULD NOT DRIVE ANYWHERE. THERE ARE SEVERAL WEBSITES ALL WITH HUNDREDS OF OTHER FORD FOCUS OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. SOME BRAKES ARE TOTALLY FAILING ON CARS! FIRESTONE FIREHWAK GTA 02 TIRES THAT CAME WITH FORD FOCUS. AFTER READING REVIEWS ON THIS TIRE, I FEEL I'M NOT ALONE, I WOULD LIKE FORD TO REPLACE ALL MY TIRES WITH NEW TIRES, HELL I JUST GOT 2 NEW FRONT TIRES AND IF I READ REVIEWS BEFORE HAND I WOULD HAVE CHOSE A DIFFERENT COMPANY, WOW. PLEASE IS THERE ANYTHING FORD CAN DO TO REPLACE THESE TIRES, THEY HAVE NO TRACTION AT ALL IT SEEMS. THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS LOCKED IN PLACE AND WOULD NOT MOVE. THIS CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BE LOCKED. ALSO, EXHAUST SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED THREE TIMES BECAUSE IT DID NOT REGISTER PROPERLY. *AK
LEAKING FROM WINDSHIELD TO DASH TO PASSENGER CABIN: IN HEAVY RAINS AND CAR WASHES WATER WOULD COME IN THOUGH THE WINDSHIELD SEAL AND RUN DOWN INTO THE DASH NEAR AIR BAG AND COME OUT NEAR FUEL SHUT OFF VALVE. FORD WANTED $1,000 TO FIX THIS. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED ON OTHER FORD FOCUS MODELS. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A SERVICE ADVISOR AND THAT NOTHING WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER DISCUSSING THIS MATTER, I GOT PRICE DOWN TO $150.*AK
THE FIRST PROBLEM THAT I STARTED TO HAVE WITH MY 2001 FORD FOCUS BEGAN LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER I BOUGHT IT. THE LEFT REAR WINDOW WENT OUT FIRST, THEN ABOUT A WEEK LATER THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW WENT OUT. I THINK THE GEARS WERE FAULTILY MANUFACTURED. WHEN AT A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR A RECALL, I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ABOUT $350 PER WINDOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM, MONEY I DO NOT HAVE BECAUSE I HAVE TO SAVE UP TO FIX ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. THE SECOND PROBLEM IS CONCERNING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. EVERYTHING IN MY CAR POWERED BY ELECTRICITY FLICKERS ON AND OFF. WHEN I TRY TO ROLL UP MY REMAINING WINDOWS OR TURN ON THE A/C, THE RADIO WILL GO STATIC, THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKER, THE ABS LIGHT POPS ON, ETC. I HAVE TALKED TO NUMEROUS FOCUS OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THEY HAVE BEEN TOLD BY FORD DEALERS THAT IT IS THIS OR THAT AND PAID A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX THE PROBLEMS, BUT THE PROBLEMS NEVER WENT AWAY. I AM JUST WAITING FOR MY IGNITION TO GO OUT, THAT IS ANOTHER COMMON PROBLEM I HAVE HEARD OF WITH THIS LEMON OF A CAR. THE FORD FOCUSES NEED TO BE RECALLED, WE SHOULD ALL GET OUR MONEY BACK! HOW MANY PEOPLE IS FORD GOING TO RIP OFF AND KILL BEFORE THEY ARE FINALLY HELD ACCOUNTABLE? I JUST PURCHASED A 2001 FORD FOCUS FOR MY DAUGHTER A MONTH AGO AND HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT STALLING AT UNPREDICTABLE TIME. I DID A LITTLE SEARCHING AND FOUND THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING AND THE NNHTSA IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE ESPECIALLY FOR A YOUNG, NEW DRIVER. WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND DETERMINED THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE. *AK THE INSPECTOR DETERMINED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS RELATED TO A FAULTY CABLE/BATTERY CONNECTOR. THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN THE 200-2001 FORD FOCUS MODEL. *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT WARNING A LOUD CLICKING NOISE WAS COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND MECHANIC TOLD CONSUMER THAT SHOCK ABSORBERS WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
I HAVE HAD MY CERTIFIED PREOWNED FORD FOCUS ZX3 FOR 10 MONTHS NOW. I HAVE RUN IT UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. I STARTED HAVING A A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND NOTICED A SLIGHT VIBRATION ON THE STEERING WHEEL. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT FOR A WEEK, THINKING THAT IT MAY BE A HARD SPOT IN THE BRAK PAD. I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP A WEEK LATER TO HAVE THEM INSPECT IT, WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER NEW CAR WARRANTY, AND THEY STATED THAT I NEEDED NEW PADS AND ROTORS, SERVICE CHARGE :$10. I CHECKED THEM MYSELF AND NOTICED THAT THE PADS WERE STILL AT 50%. I REPLACED THE PADS AND ROTORS. THE NOISE IS STILL PERSISTENT, BUT THE NOISE, ACCORDING TO FORD IS NORMAL. I WISH THERE WOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION BROUGHT FORWARD AND A RECALL FOR ALL FORD FOCUS TRIM LEVELS TO SERVICE BRAKE ISSUES, SUCH AS PREMATURE WEAR (STATES ON ORDFOCUSBRAKEPROBLEMS.COM).*AK
THE SAME AS EVEYONE ELSE. THE VEHICLE IS STALLING AT UNPREDICTABLE TIMES DUE TO FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM/FUEL PUMP. I AM A ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC. I TALKED TO FORD, THEN I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER. THEY TOLD ME, AS THEY HAVE IN THE PAST IT'S A FUEL PUMP ISSUE. THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME 75 BUCKS TO CHECK IT OUT (BECAUSE ACCORDING TO FORD, IT HAS TO BE DONE BY THEM REGARDLESS OF MY QUALIFICATIONS) THEN IF IT'S NOT HAVING THE PERFORMANCE PROBLEM AT THE TIME THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO VERIFY IT'S THE FUEL PUMP. SINCE IT'S INTERMITTENT I CHOSE TO PULL THE TANK AND INVESTIGATE MY SELF. I AGREE "KINDA" THAT IT'S A FUEL PUMP ISSUE. THE REASON I SAY THIS IS BECAUSE I PULLED THE TANK TONIGHT, DISASSEMBLED THE PUMP/SENDING UNIT ASSEMBLY AND FOUND A LARGE AMOUNT OF SEDIMENT IN THE BASE AND AROUND THE SIDES OF THE BODY THE PUMP SITS IN. ADDITIONALLY THE SCREEN/SOCK ON THE INLET SIDE OF THE PUMP MOTOR WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY CLOGGED WITH THE STUFF,. THE TANK ITSELF HAD A LIGHT FILM OF THE BROWN STUFF WHICH EASILY IS WIPED WITH A CLEAN RAG. LOOKING AT THE GUNK, IT WOULD SEEM TO ME TO BE VERY BAD GAS, BUT WHY JUST THE FOCUS. I PUT THE SAME STUFF IN BOTH MY OTHER TWO VEHICLES AND NO PROBLEMS. I CAN'T ANALYZE THE STUFF TO DETERMINE WHAT IT IS FOR SURE BUT CAN ASSURE YOU IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT CAUSED ENOUGH CAVITATION FOR THE PUMP TO HEAT UP BURN OUT. I DID NOT SEE EVIDENCE OF ANY GASKETS OR ANYTHING ELSE INTERNAL ATTACHED TO THE TANK GOING BAD, BUT SINCE I USE THE SAME FUEL ELSE WERE W/O PROBLEMS IT ALMOST HAS TO BE A SITUATION LIKE A SEALS/SEALANT DETERIORATING AND PRODUCING THE NASTY STUFF. I PLAN ON SAVING $250 AND CLEAN IT ALL AND SEE IF THINGS IMPROVE. THE PUMP IS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM FORD (INTERESTING). FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMTHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE THEY ALLOW SOMONE TO GET KILLED OUT THERE ON THE HIWAY. I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED A MONTH AGO FOR MY 15 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER RESEARCH FIRST.
WE SUED FORD VIA THE MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT. THE FOCUS HAD BEEN SOLD PRIOR TO THE FILING OF THE LAW SUIT. WE REACHED AN OUT OF COURT SETTLEMENT OF $3500. THE PROBLEM WITH THE CAR WAS INTERMITTENT STALLING. THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.
AFTER THREE UNSECCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO HAVE MY FORD FOCUS REPAIRED FOR ENGINE STALLS(WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE KIDS IN THE BACK SEAT,WITH 18-WHEELER BEHIND ME).IIONCE AGAIN TOOK MY CAR TO FORD FOR WARRANTY WORK.THEY FOUND THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS NOT SUPPLING ENOUGH PRESSURE AND FIXED IT I THOUGHT,WHEN AT WORK WITH THE CAR RUNNING AND THE EXHAUST AT RUNNING TEMPERATURE,ALL THE FUEL LEAKED OUT AND COULD OF VERY EASILY CAUSED A FIRE WHICH COULD OF CAUSED A GREAT LOSE OF LIFE NOT ONLY FOR MYSELF BUT ALSO FOR MY WIFE AND KIDS WHO ALWAYS DRIVE THE CAR
FUEL PUMP FAILED AGAIN AT 78,501. THIS TIME CAR QUIT AND WHILE I WAS TRYING TO RESTART IT FUEL STARTED POURING OUT OF THE REAR OF THE CAR. LUCKILY A NICE LADY RAN OVER TO MY CAR AND ALERTED ME. CAR WAS TOWED TO SAME FORD DEALER THAT HAD REPLACED THE PUMP 8 MONTHS PRIOR. FUEL PUMP FAILED AGAIN ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. THIS TIME FORD OFFERED 100% OF REPAIR COSTS (MINUS THE TOW, OF COURSE). I COULD HAVE DIED AND TAKEN MANY INNOCENT PEOPLE WITH ME IF THAT CAR HAD EXPLODED. MY 2 YEAR OLD SON RIDES IN THIS CAR WITH ME EVERY DAY...I'D LIKE TO SEE HIM GROW UP. LET'S MAKE FORD COME UP WITH A PERMANENT SOLUTION THAT WE ALL CAN "LIVE" WITH. *LA
IN THE LAST PAST FIVE MONTHS WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WITH NO WARNING VEHICLE STALLED DUE TO CORRODED BATTERY CABLES, CAUSING CONSUMER TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
BRAKE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE TURNED AT 18000 MILES AND FAILED AT 23,300 MILES. AT 23,300 MILES THE ROTORS WERE BELOW THE MINIMUM THICKNESS REQUIREMENT. THE BRAKE PADS, HOWEVER, SHOWED ONLY MINIMAL WEAR. THE DEALER REFUSED TO AWARD WARRANTY TO THE BRAKE COMPONENTS. *LA
I WAS TURNING A CORNER TO MERGE ON TO HIGHWAY AND CAR STALLED AND DIED ON ME IN TRAFFIC. I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED. *JB
THE VEHICLES BRAKES SQUEAKED FREQUENTLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FRONT PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT 37000 MILES. THE CONSUMER STATED IT IS TO EARLY TO CHANGE PADS. BOTH TIRES ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED. *NLM
THE REAR PASSENGER WINDOW SHATTERED WHEN THE CONSUMER USED THE AUTOMATIC SWITCH TO CLOSE THE WINDOW. *JB *CB *JB
FORD FOCUS 2001, EXCESSIVE ROCKING OF THE ENGINE, REPLACED MOTOR MOUNT. *BF WHEN THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE DEALER THE THIRD TIME, NEW BUSHINGS WERE PUT ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKE AT A VERY LOW SPEED, THE WHEEL VIBRATED AND THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO STOP AT A SLIGHTLY SLOWER SPEED THAN THE WHEEL AND THERE WAS A JERKING A REACTION. THE MECHANIC BELIEVED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR CENTER MOTOR MOUNT AND THE LACK OF AN A FRAME BRACE, WHICH WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEMS WITH THE WHEELS. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS, CALIPERS AND ROTORS AT 30,000 MILES IN OCTOBER 2003. THEN AT 47,000 MILES ON JULY 29. 2005. THE BRAKE PADS WORE OUT AND THE ROTORS RUSTED AND PITTED. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THIS WAS NORMAL. THE CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. *AK *JB
IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER FAILED, PREVENTING CAR FROM STARTING. KEY WOULD GO INTO IGNITION BUT WOULD NOT TURN. I WAS STRANDED IN PARKING GARAGE UNTIL A TOW TRUCK THAT COULD REACH IT WAS LOCATED. IGNITION CYLINDER REBUILT, NEW KEYS CREATED, TOTAL COST $550. DEALER KEPT OLD PARTS. THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE OF THE SAME PART. IT WAS FIRST REPLACED IN OCTOBER 2003. *JB
WAS DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC THAT CAUSE OF ENGINE ILLUMINATION WAS NOT KNOWN.*AK
WHEN THE HEAT WAS IN USE, THERE WAS A FOUL ORDER (LIKE BURNING OIL) WHICH SEEMED TO HAVE EMITTED THROUGH THE VENTS. THE CAUSE HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN MY 2001 FORD FOCUS. BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG GAVE ME SECOND DEGREE BURNS ON THE INSIDE OF MY RIGHT WRIST AND HAND.
