UPON IMPACT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, AND I (THE DRIVER) RECEIVED SECOND-DEGREE BURNS TO MY ABDOMEN.
PURCHASED THE CAR IN OCTOBER 17TH 2002. I DRIVE USUALLY HIGHWAY TO WORK ON A STRAIGHT ROAD. MY BRAKES SQUEALED FREQUENTLY. CHANGED BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AT 19700 MILES AT THE INSPECTIONS. THEY STARTED TO SQUEAL NOISELY AGAIN 31500 MILES. THERE IS ALWAYS DUST IN THE FRONT WHEELS. PROBABLY NEXT YEAR, I NEED TO REPLACE THEM AROUND 38-39 THOUSAND FOR THE SECOND TIME.*AK
VEHICLE STALLS IN WARM WEATHER AT ANY SPEED. DEALER DETERMINED THE FUEL PUMP RESTRICTS FUEL FLOW AND CAUSES STALLING. NLM
POWER DOOR LOCKS FAILED TO OPEN AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. CONSUMER AND CHILD WERE STUCK INSIDE VEHICLE FOR AT LEAST TWO MINUTES TRYING TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOORS. HORN STARTED BEEPING/ HEADLIGHTS AND HAZRARDS LIGHTS WOULDN'T GO OUT, AND TRUNK WOULDN'T OPEN. AN ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL WAS ENTERING VEHICLE. TWO DAYS PRIOR DOOR KEY CODE WOULD TAKE 3-5 TRIES TO UNLOCK THE DOOR. DEALER WAS AWARE AND INSPECTED VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *AK
VEHICLE STALLS IN WARM WEATHER AT ANY SPEED. DEALER DETERMINED THE FUEL PUMP RESTRICTS FUEL FLOW, CAUSING STALLING. NLM
MY 16 YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER WAS INVOLVED IN WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MINOR ACCIDENT. BOTH AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AT SUCH A SPEED IT CAUGHT HER SLEEVES ON FIRE. ONCE HER SLEEVES WERE ON FIRE SHE PANICKED THINKING HER HAIR WAS GOING TO CATCH FIRE, WHICH CAUSED HER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR AND END UP IN SOMEONE'S YARD. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SEAT, INSTEAD IT DEPLOYED TOWARDS THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD TO SHATTER. THE CAR HAS BEEN TOTALLED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. BEING THAT THIS CAR IS TARGETED TOWARDS TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS, SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ABOUT THE AIRBAGS AND AT THE RATE OF SPEED IN WHICH THEY DEPLOY. THIS IS WHAT CAUSED THE CAR TO BE TOTALLED, OTHERWISE SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BE IN CONTROL TO SAVE THE CAR AND HERSELF FROM 2ND AND 3RD DEGREE BURNS THAT SHE SUFFERED ON HER ARMS.*AK

KEY WILL NOT TURN IN IGNITION. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED LOCKING MECHANISM IN STEERING COLUMN. *AK THE FUEL MILEAGE WAS NOT CONSISTENT WITH WHAT WAS STATED , THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACE ALONG EITH THE FILTER, EGR VALVE AND RADIO, TWO FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED AT 10,700. *YH
I WAS WATCHING THE NEWS LAST NIGHT AND HEARD A STORY THAT THE NHTSA WAS INVESTIGATING COMPLAINTS THAT THE FORD FOCUS ENGINE CAN STALL CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS WHAT HAPPEN TO MY CAR FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT INVOLVED IN A CRASH. BUT, WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A NEW STARTER. THIS WAS STRANGE TO ME BEING THE FACT THE CAR WAS NOT EVEN A YEAR OLD. AFTER SEEING THIS REPORT I KNOW UNDERSTAND THAT THE PROBLEM IS CAUSE BY DEBRIS ACCUMULATING IN THE GAS TANK, BLOCKING FUEL FROM BEING DELIVERED TO THE ENGINE. AFTER THE NEW STARTER WAS INSTALLED I'M STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. FOR EXAMPLE AT TIME IT SEEM LIKE IT'S GOING TO STALL OR IT FEELS LIKE ITS DRAGGING.*AK
WHEN TANK IS HALF WAY FULL OR LESS, VEHICLE WILL STALL WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER CANNOT FIND CAUSE. *AK CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND A SENOR WAS REPLACED HOWEVER THAT DID NOT REMEDY THE STALLING PROBLEM.*JB
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY HEARD A LOUD NOISE FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE, THEN PUPPING. LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE/ RESULTED IN A CRASH. CAR TOTALLED. *AK
THERE IS SLIPPAGE ON DRIVESHAFT AT VERY LOW SPEEDS WHICH CAN CAUSE VEHICLE TO SPEED UP. CONTACTED DEALER. *AK
WHEN THE TEMPATURE GETS TO ABOUT 20 DEGREES OR COLDER THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL START TO ARCH INTO A BOW AND ARROW SHAPE AND BECOME INOPERABLE. CONTACTED DEALER. NLM
CONSUMER STATES THAT BRAKE ADJUSTERS ON THE REAR BRAKES HAVING BEEN ADJUSTING IMPROPERLY CAUSING THE BRAKE PADS TO WEAR OUT SEVERAL TIMES. NLM
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WILL START TO PULL TO THE LEFT AND WHEN TRYING TO ADJUST IT TO THE RIGHT THE VEHICLE WILL THEN MOVE OVER TO THE RIGHT AND THEN BACK TO THE LEFT SO THE VEHICLE IS MOVING FROM SIDE TO SIDE ON THE ROAD. CONTACTED DEALER. NLM
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY WARNING WILL STALL OUT THE CONSUMER ALSO SMELLS GAS. CONTACTED DEALER AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. NLM

STARTERN RELAY SENSOR ON VEHICLE WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, CAUSING VEHICLE TO STALL OUT INTERMITTENTLY. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER COULD NOT FIX PROBLEM. *AK
I WAS STOPPING AT A LIGHT TO TURN. AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN I HEARD A BIG CLUNK. I THOUGHT I RAN OVER SOMETHING SO I CHECKED BUT NOTHING WAS THERE. I NOTICED MY BATTERY LIGHT WAS ON BUT THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN TO TURN SO I STARTED TO GO AND HAD NO POWER STEERING. I PULLED OVER AT THE LIQUOR STORE AND HAD MY FRIEND LOOK UNDER THE HOOD. UPON PULLING ON THE SERPENTINE BELT, THE TENSIONER PULLEY FELL RIGHT OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. AFTER LOOKING OVER THE INCIDENT WE FOUND A SNAPPED OFF BOLT IN THE STREET. SNAPPED NEATLY AT THE BEGINNING THREAD. ALSO ON THE PULLEY, THE MOUNTING ARM WAS SNAPPED IN HALF. I KNOW NTSA IS INVESTIGATING MANY PARTS ON THE FOCUS, SO I THOUGHT I'D GIVE A HEADS UP ABOUT THIS JUST INCASE IT COULD POSE ANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS LATER ON. THANKS AND HAVE A NICE DAY. *AK
IMPACTED ANOTHER VEHICLE AT ABOUT 10MPH. STRUCK VEHICLE HAD NO DAMAGE - NOT A SCRATCH. MY VEHICLE -- CRACK IN THE FRONT PLASTIC BUMPER WAS THE ONLY DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR. AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND CAUSED THE REST OF THE DAMAGE -- TO MY CAR AND TO ME.
FIRESTONE, FIREHAWK, P205/50R15, DOT UNKNOWN, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A 2001, FORD, FOCUS WITH 6600 MILES. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH FRONT PASSENGER TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT, DRIVER'S FRONT TIRE EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. *AK *JG
ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD STICK INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK

I WAS BROADSIDED BY A BUS MOVING ABOUT 30 MPH ON MY DRIVER SIDE AND THE SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. WHEN I NOTIFIED FORD THEY SAID I SHOULD BRING THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE SENSORS CHECKED AT MY EXPENSE. *AK

FUEL PUMP REPLACED AFTER 3/07 FAILURE -- RETURNED TO DEALER AFTER 3/14 EVENT -- DEALER STATES 'COULD NOT VERFY CUST CONCERN AT THIS TIME' -- HAVE SEEN OTHER CONCERNS ON YOUR SITE -- PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR DIES. *AK

I WAS IN A 20 MILE PER HOUR ACCIDENT AND THE AIRBAG DEPLOYEDAND BURNED MY ARM . I RECEIVED SECOND DEGREE BURNS TO MY LEFT ARM AND WILL HAVE PEMANENT TISSUE DAMAGE TO IT. I WAS NEVER IN ANY DANGER THAT THE AIR BAG NEEDED TO GO OFF, AND WAS THE ONLY INJURED PERSON IN THIS ACCIDENT . I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN HURT AT ALL IF THE AIRBAG HAD NOT GONE OFF. MY HANDS WERE IN THE 10 AND 2 POSITION AND IT SEEMS THAT THE VENTILATION TUBES ON THE BACK AIRBAG RELEASE THE 300 DEGREE CHEMICLES RIGHT ON TO YOUR HAND. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH VEHICLE STARTED JERKING. DEALER DETERMINED FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH HIT AN ELECTRICAL POLE AND AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. FRONTAL IMPACT. DRIVER AND PASSENGER INJURED. DEALER CONTACTED. *AK
HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR HESITATING AND STALLING. HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN A TOTAL OF 7 TIMES. 5 OF WHICH WERE RELATED TO HESITATION. 3 OF THE THOSE 5 TIMES THEY FOUND PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. 2 TIMES FOR AN EGR EMISSIONS SENSOR AND 1 FOR A FUEL PUMP (THEY THINK). THE OTHER TWO TIMES THEY COULNDT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AT THE TIME. I HAVE CALLED FORD DIRECTLY AND THEY CAN DO NOTHING ABOUT THE CAR, BECAUSE THEY SAY IT IS REPAIRABLE. I HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK NOW FOR A LITTLE OVER A WEEK SINCE THEY HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. SEEMS TO HAVE A LITTLE HESITATION STILL, BUT HAS NOT STALLED. WE HAVE HAD THE LEFT REAR TIRE REPLACE ONCE FOR CUPPING OF THE TIRE. FORD DEALERSHIP WASNT SURE WHAT CAUSED IT, BUT THEY SAY I COULD HAVE RUN OVER SOMETHING HARD. THE NEW TIRE STARTING CUPPING LIKE THE ONE THEY REPLACED, THEN THAT IS WHEN THE RECALL FOR THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS WAS ISSUED. NO PROBLEMS SINCE THEN WITH THE TIRES.
WHILE DRIVING OVER 50 MPH EXTREME VIBRATIONS OCCURS WITHIN STEERING WHEEL, CAUSING LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
THIS DEFECT OCCURS WHEN MAKING SWEEPING RIGHT HAND TURNS OR GOING UP STEEP GRADES WITH LESS THAN HALF A TANK. THE MOST DANGEROUS OCCURRED WHEN I WAS IN THE PASSING LANE TRYING TO GET OVER WHEN THE PUMP FAILED AND WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED.*AK

WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH USING THE CRUISE CONTROL, ALL OF A SUDDEN VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED OUT WITH ALL LIGHTS IN INSTRUMENT PANEL COMING ON. CONTACTED DEALER ,AND THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. *JG *AK

THERE IS A DELAY WHEN STARTING VEHICLE, AT 55-65 MPH VEHICLE JERKS AND IS HARD TO CONTROL. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED.*AK
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A FAULTY SWITCH THAT NEEDED TO BE RESET, THE PROBLEM HAS NOT YET BEEN RESOLVED. *SCC
PROBLEMS WITH TIRES CUPPING, STEERING AND UPPER CONTROL ARMS. *MR THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP, THAT THE CONTROL ARMS WERE TOO SHORT IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE WHICH CAUSED THE TIRES TO TIP IN, WHEN THE TIRES TIPPED IN, IT CAUSED THE INNER EDGE TIRE TO WEAR AND THEN THE VEHICLE VIBRATED WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE ALSO PULLED TO THE RIGHT. ON TWO OCCASIONS, THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, BECAUSE OF THE SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE STEERING. *JB *NM
WHILE TRAVELING APPROX. 65MPH, NO OBSTRUCTIONS IN HIWAY, LEFT FRONT SUSPENSION APPEARED TO BUCKLE, AS DESCRIBED BY WITNESS. CAUSING TIRE TO BLOW AND VEHICLE FALLING TO ASHPALT CAUSING MASSIVE DAMAGE TO LEFT UNDER NEATH PARTS..NOT REPORTED AS NO INJURIES..CONTACTED DEALERSHIP TO PURSUE WARRANTY..TO NO AVAIL..INSURANCE SAID THEY WOULD PAY..DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THERE WAS NO DEFECTS, I STRONGLY DISAGREE..FORTUNATLEY THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO KEEP VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL AVOIDING ANY FURTHER INCIDENTS.*AK
FORD HAS TO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE FOCUS TO LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT. 3 TIMES KEY CYLINDER HAS BROKE. FUEL PUMP, FILTER, EGR VALVE, 2 TIRES REPLACED AT 10,000 MILES. AND MORE. MR
FRONT WHEEL BEARING SHEARED OFF WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT 60 MPH ,AND THEN DRUM AND TIRE CAME OF VEHICLE. CONTACTED DEALER. *AK
