DT: BRAKES FAILED TWICE SINCE 2001. BRAKES WERE REPLACED IN 2001 AND 2002. KEPT REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. THE WATER PUMP/BATTERY, AND TIRES MALFUNCTIONED. ON JUNE 11 2005 WHILE DRIVING THE CAR STOPPED. THE CAR MADE A POPPING SOUND AND STARTED SMOKING. THERE WAS A WARNING, THE BATTERY LIGHT WAS ON. THE ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON RIGHT BEFORE. CAR DIDNT START BACK UP AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. CAR WAS TOWED TO HOME. DEALER REPORTED NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. CAR WAS REGULARLY SERVICED.*AK
WHILE IN MOTION CONSUMER LOST POWER STEERING. WHILE AT THE SERVICE STATION, THE MECHANIC EXPLAINED THE POWER FUEL CONTAINER WAS DRY AND THAT A NEW PUMP MIGHT BE SUFFICIENT. THE SERVICEMAN WHO WROTE UP THE INVOICE ONLY REPORTED THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS HARD TO TURN. CONSUMER REQUESTS HELP IN THIS SITUATION. *JG
I HAVE A 2001 FORD FOCUS WITH A LOCKED UP IGNITION. I ONLY HAVE 24000 MILES ON MY CAR.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE WHICH INCLUDED THE PASSENGER SIDE STRUTS WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WOULD SIT SIDEWAYS WHEN PARKED. THE BACK OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WOULD NOT LOCK INTO PLACE, SO IT SLID FORWARD WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE HEADLIGHTS WERE TOO DIM AND DID NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE LIGHTING ON THE ROAD. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT ALARM WOULD RING ALTHOUGH THE SEAT BELT WAS ENGAGED AND THE LATCH WOULD ALSO POP OPEN SUDDENLY AT TIMES. THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AND WOULD ACCELERATE SUDDENLY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD HAVE TO BE PERFORMED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 107,000.

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WOULD BOUNCE TO SIDE WHEN HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD, TOOK TO DEALER, THE DEALER ALLIGNED VEHICLE, TIGHTENED UP STABLIZER LINK. CONSUMER STATES' TIRES WERE REPLACED 20000, MECHANIC STATES ALL TIRES WERE COUPED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. TS
COMPLAINT : IGNITION LOCK WOULD NOT RELEASE KEY AND TURN FAR ENOUGH TO CUT THE ENGINE OFF ( KEY WOULD OTHERWISE MOVE FREELY). HISTORY : KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT ON RANDOM OCCASIONS WITHOUT A SECOND TRY . THE KEY WOULD ALWAYS COME OUT ON THE SECOND TRY AND COULD NEVER REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY.*AK

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STALLS OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING. HAD VEHICLE SERVICED 7 TIMES,BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. DEALER CONTACTED.*AK
CAR WAS TURNING RIGHT WHILE LEAVING WAL-MART PARKING LOT ONTO 4 LANE HIGHWAY WHEN STEERING AND BRAKES FAILED. FRONT LEFT WHEEL HAD TURNED SIDEWAYS IN WHEEL AND THE BRAKE LINE WAS BROKEN. DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL VEHICLE AND IT CROSSED HIGHWAY AND CAME TO STOP ON RAISED CONCRETE MEDIAN. DAMAGE TO THE UNDER CARRIAGE OF VEHICLE WAS SIGNIFICANT. DT
AS I WAS EXITING THE EXPRESSWAY BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. I HAD NO SENSATION OF HITTING ANYTHING AND BOTH THE LOCAL POLICE AND THE STATE POLICE FOUND NO EVIDENCE AS SUCH. I RETURNED TO EXPRESSWAY TO GET THE CAR REPAIRED AND THE ENGINE DIED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE KALAMAZOO MI. FORD DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY DETERMINED I HIT SOMETHING. I THINK THAT I WOULD HAVE FELT IT IF I HAD HIT ANYTHING BIG ENOUGH TO RUIN THE ENGINE AND FIRE THE AIR BAGS. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED NOT WORTH REPAIRING AND SCRAPPED. WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED THERE IS AN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. FORD HAS REPAIRED VEHICLE ONCE UNDER AVERSIVE RECALL. *AK CONSUMER STATES THAT BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY WORN OUT AGAIN AT 33000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *YH
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH CONSUMER APPLIED BRAKE, VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. CONSUMER HAD TO SHUT OFF ENGINE TO STOP VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED 4 TIMES. DEALER REPLACED SERVO SPEED CONTROL. *AK
WHEN APPLYING BRAKE VEHICLE VEERS SHARPLY TO THE LEFT. THIS CAUSES THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE TO WEAR PREMATURELY, TIRE WAS REPLACED TWICE. DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEM. MR
WHILE STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY ANOTHER CAR ON FRONT/RIGHT FENDER WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 25 TO 30 MPH. THIS IMPACT CAUSED BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY, AND DRIVER'S CLOTHING CAUGHT ON FIRE, RESULTING IN FIRST DEGREE BURNS. NO DETERMINATION HAS BEEN MADE AS TO CAUSE OF AIR BAGS DEPLOYING IN A NON-FRONTAL CRASH SITUATION. *AK *TT
WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH VEHICLE PULLED TO RIGHT UNEXPECTEDLY. WHEN CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT DIRECTION IN WHICH VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING SHE CRASHED INTO A JERSEY WALL , NO INJURIES. AFTER WASHING THE CAR NOTICED WATER IN THE FLOOR BOARD 2 TO 3 INCHES DEEP, ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT CAME THROUGH THE FIREWALL. START HOME AN HALF AN HOUR LATER, MADE A SUDDEN STOP AND THE CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL VERY SPARODIC AND WOULD NOT STOP. VEHICLE CROSSED FIVE LANES OF TRAFFIC HIT THE DIVIDER CONCRETE WALL AND BOUNCED OFF, CROSSED THREE LANES SPUN AROUND CROSSED THE SAME THREE LANES AND CAME TO A STOP ON THE LEFT SHOULDER, THE COMPUTER IS LOCATED IN THE FIRE WALL WHERE THE WATER LEAKED DETECTED.
FORD FOCUS YEAR 2001 - THE IGNITION HAS LOCKED UP TWICE. HAD AAA LOCKSMITH MAKE A NEW KEY THAT WORKED BETTER- OLD KEY YOU HAVE TO HIT WITH FORCE TO MAKE IT WORK. NOW IT TURNS BUT WON'T START. *NM

THE CABLE THAT CONNECTS GAS PEDAL TO THE ENGINE BROKE OFF, I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL AND HAD NO GAS PEDAL . I CALLED SOME FORD DEALERS BUT THEY NAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS. I AM WORRIED SOMEONE MIGHT HAVE A VERY BAD ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS. I WAS LUCKY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME WHEN IT HAPPENED. *AK
WAS TRAVELING UPHILL AT 30MPH AND WAS DEPRESSING ACCELERATOR PEDAL, WHICH WENT TO THE FLOOR. VEHICLE STARTED TO DRIFT BACKWARDS. PARKED VEHICLE AND HAD IT TOWED NEXT DAY. MECHANIC INDICATED ACCELERATOR CABLE HAD BROKEN. IT WENT TO THE MOTOR, HAD SEPARATED COMPLETELY.*AK
VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A LOUD NOISE AND VIBRATE WHEN DRIVING 25 MPH OR MORE. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK

MY SECURITY SYSTEM BASICALLY WENT NUTTY...IT EVEN SOUNDED FUNNY WHEN THE HORN SOUNDED, THE CRUISE WOULD ALSO STICK OR NOT WORK AT ALL WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN TURNED ON. I HAVE HAD THE HEGO SENSOR OR THE FRONT OXYGEN SENSOR REPLACED 3 TIMES, ONE AT MY OWN COST...I HAD A HUGE BULGE POP OUT ON MY TIRE EARLY ON, FIRESTONE REPLACED IT AT NO COST...THE BRAKES HAVE INTERMITTANTLY SQUEALED SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD FEW MILES ON IT, WHEN I TOOK IT IN TO GET IT FIXED, IT BASICALLY FELT LIKE THEY HAD LOOSENED THEM BECAUSE YOU HAD TO PRESS ON THE PEDAL HARDER TO STOP, SOON AFTER THEY STARTED SQUEALING AGAIN, ALL FORD WILL TELL ME IS THAT I NEED NEW BRAKE PADS AT MY COST BECAUSE IT IS ROAD HAZARD...SHOULD A CAR WITH 40,000 MILES NEED BRAKE PADS? I THINK NOT. THE LAST COMPLAINT THAT I HAVE IS THAT THE CAR WILL STALL WITH NO APPARENT REASON WHY...NO MATTER WHAT THE SPEED IS OR IF I HAVE JUST STARTED IT OR HAVE DRIVEN IT ALL DAY IT DOES NOT MATTER, I WILL JUST BE STUCK UNTIL IT DECIDES TO START AGAIN.
WHEN FUEL TANK REGISTERS 1/4 TANK OR LESS, CAR LOSES ACCELERATION AFTER CLIMBING A 6-8% GRADE WITH A CURVE. CAR CONTINUES TO RUN, BUT ONLY AT IDLE SPEED. CAR WILL REGAIN POWER AFTER 10-15 SECONDS. *AK
CAR STALLED WHILE ON HIGHWAY ON 2 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. ALSO WAS GETTING POOR GAS MILEAGE. BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE PROBLEM SOLVED AFTER SECOND SERVICE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A SINGLE CAR FRONT-END COLLISION. THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED AS EXPECTED, HOWEVER SOMETHING IN THE PROCESS CAUGHT THE SLEEVE OF DRIVER'S JACKET ON FIRE. DRIVER RECEIVED SEVERE BURNS. THERE WAS AN AREA THE SIZE OF THE HOLE IN THE JACKET WHERE THE MATERIAL HAD MELTED TO THE AIR BAG. CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT THE PROPELLANT USED TO DEPLOY THE AIR BAG CAUSED THE FIRE. CONSUMER WAS ADVISED THAT THE AIR BAGS CAN DEPLOY AT TEMPERATURES OF 500 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. HOWEVER NO SUCCESS IN CONTACTING MANUFACTURER CONCERNING THE PROBLEM. *TT *YD *NM

WAS REPLACED ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASSIONS. ALL WITHIN A 16 MONTH PERIOD AFTER PURCHASING THE AUTOMOBILE IN MAY OF 2001. IT IS A 2001 FORD FOCUS ZX3.
WHILE PARKED VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. MECHANIC INDICATED FIRE WAS CAUSED BY MALFUNCTION ON INERTIA SWITCH. *AK CONSUMER FURTHER STATES THAT AFTER THE FRONT END IMPACT ACCIDENT, THE INERTIA SWITCH FAILED TO SHUT OFF THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM, CAUSING THE CAR TO BURST INTO FLAMES. *TT

BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. NEXT DAY, CONSUMER STARTED HEARING A GRINDING NOISE. DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE BAD BRAKE CALIPERS ON VEHICLE. DEALER REPLACED CALIPERS. SIX MONTHS LATER, PROBLEM REOCCURRED. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY STATED THAT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHENEVER THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION IS ENGAGED (CLUTCH PEDAL NOT DEPRESSED), AND THE GEAR SELECTION IS IN NEUTRAL, A LOUD, VIBRATING, AND METALIC SOUND IS AUDIBLE COMING FROM THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION HOUSING. AIR BAGS DEPLOYED DURING A MINOR REAR END ACCIDENT. VEHICLE SPEED WAS AT 10MPH OR LESS. THERE WAS NO SHEET METAL DAMAGE TO EITHER VEHICLE, NOTT EVEN A SCRATCH ON THE BUMPER OF EITHER VEHICLE. WHEN THE BAGS DEPLOYED, MY SPOUSE WAS INJURED BY THE FLYING WINSHIELD GLASS THAT WAS SHATTERED BY THE AIRBAGS. SHE REQUIRED 6 STICHES TO HER TOE.
AVANCE TRAC CONTROL DOESN'T ENGAGE AND/OR MULFUNCTIONS-DISABLING IT TOTAL. MANY ELECT PROBLEMS. TWICE IT HAS SHUT DOWN ON INTERSTATE I40 AT RATE OF SPEED OF 50 AND 60 AND ONCE AT MAYBE 5 MPH IN THE DRIVEWAY. WHEN IT SHUTS DOWN THERE IS NO WARNING. OTHER PROBLEMS W/THIS CAR HAVE BEEN RADIO HAD TO BE REPLACED, FUEL PUMP MODULE, KEY GETS STUCK AND KEY WILLN'T TURN. *AK

DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND CROSSED RAILROAD TRACKS AT APPROX 35 MILES PER HOUR. AFTER CROSSING TRACKS (BUMP) SUSPECT BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY FRONT END CONTACT. SHE LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE DUE TO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND HIT A TELEPHONE POLL ON DRIVER SIDE DOOR AREA. POLL FELL AND HIGH TENSION WIRE FELL TO GROUND AND CAUSED FIRE. EMERGENY SERVICES CALLED AND SHE WAS TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL AND TREATED FOR MULTIBLE INJURIES.*AK
WHEN DRIVING IN THE RAIN WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES CAUSE A FILM ON THE WINDSHIED AND WITH ONCOMING LIGHT OF OTHER CARS/TRUCKS IT MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE DEALER AS WELL AS FORD HAS TOLD ME THAT THIS IS NORMAL OPERATING PROCEDURE AND THAT I SHOULD USE MY DEFROSTER AND THIS WILL CLEAR IT UP. I TRIED THIS AND IT DID NOT CLEAR IT UP. I CALLED THE FORD NUMBER AND I WAS TOLD TO GO BACK TO THE DEALER AND TELL THEM TO PROVE IT IS NORMAL. THEIR SERVICE MANAGER SAID THERE IS NOTHING HE CAN DO FOR ME SINCE FORD HAS TO APPROVE ANYTHING HE DOES. I BASICALLY HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO GO. PLEASE HELP ME.*AK

OXYGEN SENSOR, AND PARKING BRAKE REPLACED ..BRAKES STILL HAD PROBLEM ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON..TOOK TO DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED..KEPT 12 DAYS..BRAKES ADJUSTED AND COMPUTOR AND IGNITION WERE REPLACED..LIGHT OFF..BRAKES STILL TROUBLE..TOOK BACK NUMEROUS TIMES..FOR CHECK-UPS..AT 16,000 TOLD BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED IN FRONT AND TIRES WHERE ALL WORN AWAY ON INSIDE OF TIRE..BALD!! ..MANUFACTOR AND DEALER WOULD NOT PAY FOR..REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES, ALIGNMENT, AND NEW BRAKES PUT ON FRONT BRAKES..CAR STILL NOT RIGHT WITH BRAKES..SHAKING VIOLENTLY OF CAR WHILE BRAKING AT ANY SPEED. OR GOING DOWNHILL .TOOK BACK TO DEALERSHIP ROTORS WERE NO GOOD AS WELL AS FRONT BRAKES. THEY REPLACED..INNER TIRES ALREADY WEARING OUT...BRAKES STILL GIVING NOISE AND GRINDING..TOOK BACK WITHIN MONTH..THEY SAID FINE..TOOK BACK AGAIN WHEN OIL CHANGED..BRAKES WHERE SAID TO BE FINE..BRAKES NOISY AND GRINDING AS USUAL..3 WEEKS LATER BRAKES FAILED..HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP....THEY STATE NEEDS NEW BRAKES ON FRONT AND BACKSHOES CRACKED AND NEED NEW ROTORS...THEY KEEP SAYING ITS THE WAY WE DRIVE CAR...NO WAY..NEVER HAD THIS MUCH PROBLEM WITH ANY BRAKES IN ANY CAR WE HAVE OWNED...CAR IS VERY UNSAFE AND MADE WITH INFERIOR PRODUCTS..
