WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 24 EAST BETWEEN NASHVILLE AND CHATTANOOGA, I HAD AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT CAUSED MY ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN WHILE MY CAR WAS STILL TRAVELING AT 65 MPH. THE FIRST SIGN OF A PROBLEM WAS WHEN MY RADIO SHUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD TO INDICATE THAT MY ENGINE WAS ABOUT TO SHUT DOWN. AFTER TRAVELING ANOTHER 3 TO 5 MILES, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON MY DASHBOARD AND A FEW SECONDS LATER MY ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I WAS STILL TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR IN THE EMERGENCY LANE. AFTER STOPPING THE CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. ME AND MY FAMILY WERE STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY UNTIL WE COULD HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER. THE FORD DEALER RAN ELECTRICAL TESTS AND DISCOVERED THE BATTERY HAD FAILED. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY AND THE CAR DROVE FINE. ON DECEMBER 1, 2011, ONLY FOUR MONTHS LATER, I WAS TRAVELING TROUGH THE CITY WHEN MY RADIO SHUT OFF AND A FEW MILES LATER THE ENGINE DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE BATTERY WAS TESTED AND FOUND TO HAVE FAILED AGAIN. BOTH BATTERIES THAT FAILED WERE MOTORCRAFT 1BXT*96*500. SINCE THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHILE DRIVING WITH NO APPARENT WARNING LIGHTS, AND CAUSES THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN, IT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY, THE REAR HATCH DOOR OF OUR WAGON WITH ELECTRIC LOCKS POPPED OPEN ON ITS OWN. I STOPPED AND CLOSED THE DOOR. SAME THING HAPPENED A COUPLE DAYS LATER. *TR
DRIVER SIDE BACK DOOR WILL NOT LOCK AT ALL...THEREFORE I CAN'T LET MY CHILD RIDE IN THE CAR BECAUSE I CAN'T PUT THE CHILD LOCK ON THE CAR. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE!! *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY 88 YEAR OLD MOTHER WAS PULLING INTO HER GARAGE WHEN GRABBING THE SHIFING LEVER TO PUT IT IN PARK IT CAME UP OUT OF THE COLUMN ALONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION CAUSING THE CAR TO GO FORWARD AND HIT THE BOXES. THE KEY WAS LOCKED IN PLACE AND THE CAR WOULDN'T SHUT OFF. PISS POOR DESIGN OF SCREW HOLDING THE SHIFTER ON AND THE CONNECTION FOR THE POWER. *TT
THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES (20+) WHERE I SLOW DOWN TO STOP AND IT ACCELERATES ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TO THROW IT INTO NEUTURAL AND HIT THE GAS PEDDLE A FEW TIMES TO BRING IT BACK DOWN TO IDLE AND ONCE I COULDN'T GET IT BACK DOWN SO I HAD TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THIS IS A SERIOUS FLAW AND REAL SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENS!! I'VE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE TOO! *JS

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE AIR BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE DOOR LATCH FOR THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE BROKE AND HE COULD NOT GET EXIT FROM THAT DOOR. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
THE VEHICLE HAD ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE 'SURGING' ON ITS OWN FOR A FEW OF WEEKS. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR BRAKING FOR A TURN. A VISIT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER DID NOT FIND A SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. EVENTUALLY WHILE ON THE FREEWAY THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE WAS RACING TO OVER 65 MPH WITHOUT ACCELERATING AND THEN IT DIED. IT WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY NOISE CAPACITOR. THEY DID FIX THE PROBLEM BUT IT IS TWO YEARS LATER AND IT IS ALSO EXHIBITING THE SAME 'SURGING' ISSUES AGAIN. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE OWNED AND THIS CAN'T BE A NORMAL THING. THANK YOU. *TR
ONE OF THE REAR DOORS WILL NOT LOCK. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED US THE MOTOR NEEDED REPLACED. THIS WAS SHOCKING NEWS SINCE THE CAR HAS RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE COMPARED TO THIS TYPE OF NEEDED REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OPENED WITHOUT INTENT. THE CONTACT MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR YET THE DOOR FAILED TO REMAIN IN A SECURED POSITION. THE VEHICLE PASSENGER MANUALLY HELD THE DOOR TO PREVENT IT FROM OPENING WHEN IN MOTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE PLASTIC DOOR LATCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOTIFIED AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

2007 FORD FOCUS 3 DOOR W/AUTO TRANSMISSION. 130,000 MILES. CAR IS SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF GEAR. RPM SUDDENLY RISES FOR NO REASON. STRONG VIBRATION ON THE HILLS. MECHANIC REPLACED THE OVERDRIVE SENSOR AS IT WAS THROWING A CODE. FORD WANTS $3700 TO REPLACE WITH NEW TRANSMISSION. I'M NOT CONVINCED THAT IT ISN'T A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS COMPUTER OR WIRING. THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF SIMILAR STORIES ABOUT THESE FORD FOCUS TRANSMISSIONS. ITS NOT A WELL BUILT UNIT. FORD KNOWS THESE TRANSMISSION ARE NOT RELIABLE AND SHOULD REPLACE AND REMANN THEM ALL! *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET WHEN MY DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. I DID NOT GO OVER A BUMP AND WAS NOT HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE TO JUSTIFY THE AIRBAG DEPLOYING. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT OF MY CAR. *TR
THIS IS NOT A SAFETY COMPLAINT, BUT IT IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT A DEFECTIVE COMPONENT THAT AFFECTS COMFORT, IF NOT SAFETY. MY WIFE AND I BOTH BOUGHT NEW 2007 FORD FOCUSES. SOON AFTER MY CAR WENT OUT OF WARRANTY (AT ABOUT 37,000 MILES IN FALL 2009), THE AIR RECIRCULATION FUNCTION ON THE A/C STOPPED WORKING. THE INDICATOR LIGHT GOES ON, BUT THE AIR CONTINUES TO BE DRAWN FROM OUTSIDE. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE MOTOR THAT OPENS AND CLOSES A VENT DOOR HAD DIED. IT WOULD COST ABOUT $600 FOR THE MOTOR, PLUS THE LABOR COST OF REMOVING THE DASH TO ACCESS THE MOTOR. BECAUSE OF THE HUGE EXPENSE, I DECIDED TO LIVE WITH THE PROBLEM. NOW MY WIFE'S CAR HAS THE DEVELOPED THE SAME PROBLEM (AT 21,000 MILES). HER AIR RECIRCULATION BUTTON ALSO HAS STOPPED WORKING. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND SAW SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS' COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM IN THEIR 2007 FOCUSES. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE IS A FAIRLY WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THIS MOTOR IN 2007 FOCUSES. I AM ASKING YOU TO INITIATE A RECALL, SO THAT PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM CAN GET THEIR CARS FIXED AND HAVE THEIR A/C WORK PROPERLY. *TR
ALL OF THE LIGHTS IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIT UP AND ALL OF THE GAUGES STOPPED WORKING AND THEN THE CAR SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. IT HAPPENED YESTERDAY AND I HAD THE BATTERY CHANGED BUT THE PROBLEM RESURFACED THE NEXT DAY AND AGAIN THE CAR SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC TO SEE WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM BUT THE MECHANIC HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM YET. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FOCUS STATION WAGON. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE TAIL LIGHTS AND MARKER LIGHTS WERE NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THE WIRING HARNESS WAS CHAFE AND HAD A SHORT CIRCUIT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN UNDER NHTSA ITEM NUMBER: 10023297 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: WIRING). THE CONTACT DID NOT ORDER THE SERVICE BULLETIN FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
JUST AS A PREFACE, I SENT THIS SAME DESCRIPTION OF MY AIRBAG PROBLEM TO FORD AND THEY WERE UNWILLING TO HELP IN ANY WAY. I PURCHASED MY USED 2007 FORD FOCUS FROM A BEASLEY FORD DEALERSHIP IN JUNE 2010. NOT EVEN ONE YEAR AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN APRIL 2011, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED TO FLICKER. SHORTLY AFTER, IT JUST STAYED ON. I NOTICED THAT THE CENTER DASH PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT, THE ONE THAT SENSES A SITTING PASSENGER, WAS ALSO FLICKERING FROM TIME TO TIME AND WOULD SPORADICALLY COME ON OR OFF. IN MAY 2010, I CALLED BEASLEY FORD AND THE WOMAN SAID THAT IT WOULD BE $88.00 TO DIAGNOSE THE AIRBAG LIGHT AND THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY FOR THIS MATTER. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND DECIDED TO SPEND THE $88 DOLLARS TO HAVE THE AIRBAG LIGHT DIAGNOSED. I WAITED FOR AN HOUR AND FORTY-FIVE MINUTES. I WAS CALLED TO THE SERVICE CENTER. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT HE NEEDED ANOTHER TWO HOURS WITH MY CAR TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. HE HAD ALREADY SPENT ONE HOUR TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND HE WAS ABLE TO NARROW IT DOWN TO 3-4 POSSIBLE CAUSES. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE ANOTHER $88.00 PER HOUR, TOTALING $167.00, JUST TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE AIRBAG. I TOLD THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT I CALLED AND THE WOMAN SAID IT WAS $88 DOLLARS AND NEVER TOLD ME IT WAS $88 DOLLARS PER HOUR. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT AFTER THE DIAGNOSIS, I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR PARTS, WHICH COULD BE UPWARDS OF $617.00 IF THE AIRBAG NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, PLUS LABOR. FRUSTRATED AND COMPLETELY SHOCKED, I CAME HOME AND CHECKED TO SEE IF THE AIRBAG WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR OTHER FORD FOCUS OWNERS. I READ ABOUT HUNDREDS OF OTHER INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITHIN THE YEARS 2005-2007. ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS WHY I AM WRITING IS BECAUSE IF THIS ISSUE HASN'T BEEN LOOKED INTO, I THINK IT SHOULD BE. *TR

THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE REPAIRS AND THE CONTACT WOULD RECEIVE A RETURN CALL. THE CONTACT HAD NOT RECEIVED A CALL BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
JUST PURCHASED A 2007 FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK TWO WEEKS AGO. IT HAD 29,000 MILES ON IT. HARDLY DRIVEN. I DROVE AN HOUR AWAY FROM MY HOME, YESTERDAY,TWO WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING IT. THE RADIO WENT BLACK, ALL LIGHTS AND GAUGES FOLLOWED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT APPROX. 2 MILES TO A TRUCK STOP, BEFORE THE CAR DIED, AND I CALLED FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. AFTER REALIZING THAT IT'S PROBABLY THE ALTERNATOR, I DID A SEARCH ONLINE AND REALIZED THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE DEALT WITH THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE IN THE EXACT SAME TYPE OF CAR, AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY FORD TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE AND I THINK THEY SHOULD. I WAS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WITH MY GIRLFRIEND AND HER 9 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, WHO WAS TERRIFIED OF THE WHOLE SITUATION OF BEING STRANDED IN THE DARK AT NIGHT. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT PEOPLE HAVE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR IN THESE CARS MORE THAN ONE TIME, AFTER THE INITIAL EPISODE. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED AND IT COST ME $100. I HAVEN'T EVEN MADE MY FIRST MONTHLY PAYMENT ON THIS CAR YET !!! NOW IM LOOKING AT SPENDING ANYWHERE FROM $400-$700 TO FIX A CAR THAT I PURCHASED, LESS THAN 3 WEEKS AGO. HAD THERE BEEN A RECALL FROM FORD ON THIS, I WOULD EITHER HAVE NEVER HAD TO DEAL WITH IT, OR I COULD HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN WHEN I PURCHASED IT AND HAD IT SERVICED, FREE OF CHARGE. I KNOW THAT THERE ARE PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT ON THE INTERNET TO CONSTITUTE A RECALL. I HOPE THIS HELPS IN GETTING THAT DONE. A LOCAL MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,601. ..UPDATED 04/11/12 *BF

WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY 3 LANE EXPRESSWAY IN THE CENTER LANE AT 60 MILES PER HOUR, THE LEFT CURTAIN AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND I WASN'TINVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. MY ARM FELT LIKE SOMEONE HIT ME WITH A BASEBALL BAT. BUT LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND NOT CAUSE A PILE UP. MY WIFE WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME AND WAS VERY THANKFUL THAT I WAS DRIVING BECAUSE SHE SAID SHE PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE REACTED THE SAME WAY. SHE HAD JUST PURCHASED THIS 2007 FORD FOCUS LESS THEN A WEEK AGO, WITH A CLEAN CAR FAX!!!! NOW I'M READING THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ALOT OF PEOPLE. I HAVE BEEN A FIREMAN FOR NEARLY 25 YEARS AND I'VE SEEN WHAT AIRBAGS CAN DO TO PEOPLE WHEN THEY WORK PROPERLY. WHILE TRAVELING THROUGH OREGON ON I-205 IN EXTREAMLY HEAVY RAIN MY 2007 FOCUS WITH 64,000 MILES LOST MOST ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INCLUDING HEAD LIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS. AIR BAG INDICATOR ALSO ILUMINATED ON INSTRAMENT PANEL. THIS ALL OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING AT 55 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TO NEXT EXIT AND FOUND SEARS SERVICE CENTER WHO DIAGNOSSED PROBLEM AS BAD BATTTERY AND ALTERNATOR. NO PRIOR WARNING FROM BATTERY LIGHT IN INSTRUMENT PANEL. THIS PROBLEM OCURRING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IN LOW VISABILITY IS A DEFINATE SAFETY HAZARD. I KNOW ALTENATORS FAIL FROM TIME TO TIME BUT THE LACK OF WARNING IN THE VEHICLE INSTRUMENTATION OF LOW VOLTAGE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. THIS IS FOR A FORD FOCUS ZX5 (4-DOOR HATCHBACK). AT 90K MILES PASSENGER BACK DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY BROKE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. REPLACED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY AND COST $90. NOW THE DRIVERS BACK DOOR LOCK IS BROKEN. IT WILL NOT WORK MANUALLY OR ELECTRONICALLY. MY CHILDREN ARE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR WHETHER THE CAR IN PARK OR DRIVE SINCE THE ENTIRE LATCH AND LOCK ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. I OWN A 2007 FORD FOCUS WITH 45K MILES ON IT. AROUND 42K MILES I BEGIN TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR WHEN I NEED TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY SUCH AS MERGING ONTO AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. THE CAR WOULD BEGIN TO ACCELERATE BUT ONCE IT REACHED 3RD GEAR THE CAR WOULD JERK AND START REVVING VERY LOUD BUT BE STUCK AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. INITIALLY IT WAS OCCASIONAL AND WOULD NOT BE VERY BAD TO OVERCOME, SIMPLY RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL FOR A WHILE THEN IT'D FIX ITSELF. BUT IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE TO THE POINT WHERE I CANNOT GET THE CAR OVER 30 MPH DUE TO THIS ISSUE NO MATTER HOW SLOWLY OR FAST I ACCELERATE. THE CAR WILL REV VERY LOUD USUALLY AT 3K+ RPM, BUT WILL NOT ACCELERATE. I HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD WHENEVER I CAN; TURN THE CAR OFF AND TRY AGAIN. IT TURNS OUT IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ALTERNATOR OF THIS CAR PARTICULARLY THE 2007 MODEL. I RESEARCHED IT AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE WHO OWN THE SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR CAR ARE ENCOUNTERING THIS PROBLEM AS WELL.
